TOP 10 BL Trends of 2023
This is just me with my analysis hat on.
1. 2023 = the year EVERYONE went outside their lanes
Everything went topsy-turvy this year in BL.
For example, Korea gave us agonized yearning and outright queerness (The 8th Sense, The New Employee) while Japan served up soft office workers and tender family (Our Dining Table).
Tumblr media
The BL world went askew for a while, especially in the spring of 2023.
Not that we still didn’t still get Korea’s soft angsty bubbles or Japan’s “what are you doing and why does it hurt?” kink-fests. But there were quite a few BLs that made us chronic watchers sit up in confusion and wonder if Korea was dabbling in Taiwan’s territory or Japan in Thailand’s. Then they fudged the kisses and we were like... okay, back in familiar territory.
In contrast, Thailand stayed course-correcting for the damage they’ve done in the past with tropes (2022) and self referential meta criticism (2021), but also almost aggressively returned to their BL roots after last year’s series of shockers. Certainly, they are reexamining those roots, transplanting some, aerating others. But they really went back to classic Thai university and high school BL and pulps in a big way in 2023.
Taiwan is always difficult to gage because they produce so few but they seem to have stuck with what they do best with no deviation while producing more this year than they have in ages. I’m happy for that, why change a good thing? But there is a tiny part of me that really wants them to hit it out of the part with a quality piece soon. For me, We Best Love still reigns supreme, but I would really like the HIStory franchise to give us that level but longer - like a happy version of Your Name Engraved Herein. I think Taiwan has the chops to give us something as good as The 8th Sense or Old Fashion Cupcake but in their style, and I would like to see them exercise their talent for good rather than just profit.
I know, what a very odd thing for me to say. But if any BL is going to break into the mainstream American market, I genuinely think it’s most likely come from Taiwan.
Vietnam and the Philippines are falling behind, in general. They just didn’t bring out very many shows in 2023, and what the brought out tended to fub the endings. This is forgivable in Japan (because of their style and quality) but not what watchers want in the lower production value propositions. In other words, if you do a pulp, you can’t mess up the ending (by romance standards). that doesn’t look to be changing anytime soon.
Tumblr media
2. The Office Romance Dominated
After years of Thailand serving us an endless (and slightly bland) buffet of university (and a few high school) BLs, this year Korea was basically like...
Ofiice. We like the Office. It’s cheap to film we can use grown up actors, acting (mostly) their actual age.
And yeah... it totally worked.
To be fair, Japan has always given us office live action yaoi from the beginning (they had the source material) but this year everyone else, including Thailand, seriously started playing in this setting.
Tumblr media
3. Boys Danced with Boys
The darling @heretherebedork was a big fan of this one, and I rather like it myself. Prior to this boys dancing together was very very rare in BL, but this year we got way more than our fair share. It was lovely.
Never Let me Go
My School President
Bed Friend
The Day I Loved You
Step by Step
Be Mine Superstar
Tie the Not
Dangerous Romance
I think there were a few more. These are the ones I remembered to write down.
4. Getting (even more) Meta With Tropes
BL has been getting more and more meta over the past few years but this year they really focused in on tropes specifically. Calling out their own biggest and most favorite tropes in a massive way, especially Thailand and especially GMMTV.
Tumblr media
Like they tunneled in on damaging tropes with Bad Buddy and the like over the past 2 years, and now they are just having fun with us.
Tumblr media
I mean they just started the dancing trope and already they are calling it out? That’s like rapid-fire regurgitated meta there, GMMTV.
Tumblr media
5. Cameos are the norm now
Taiwan has always loved cameos but in the past the other countries have been show and steady with only one or two a year. (Unless Japan does a parody.)
This year Korea got in on the game.
Korea rarely starts trends but they do adopt smaller and lesser known existing ones and make them super popular.
This year they did that with cameo couple appearances, even borrowing a few of Thailand’s pairs (TutorYim and MaxNat traveled north). They did it so much I stopped tracking. Love Class 2, Why R U?, and Jun & Jun were the heaviest hitters.
Tumblr media
Taiwan, of course, came back swinging. Kiseki was the gum-ball machine of pair cameos. (In Taiwan mafia = gay.)
6. We are entering the cross pollination age
The number of remakes picked up or started this year was startling, not just countries revisiting their own content (Thailand, Japan) but countries revisiting OTHER countries stuff.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lemme explain...
Korea has started remaking Thai content (Why R U?) alongside cameo'ing Thai pairs.
Thailand is doing Korean IP (My Dear Gagster Oppa) and has 2 Chinese ones slated for next year.
GMMTV acquired a lot of Japanese IP (Cherry Magic, Ossen, and My Love Mix Up) - and then had problems distributing it.
This is probably the most surprising trend for me. Especially the Japanese stuff. I would have thought these properties well outside of Thailand's price range (even GMMTV's) not to mention Japan’s legendary IP issues (I swear I typed this pout before the pulled TayNew’s excellent Cherry Magic).
Tumblr media
Also why not option some of the older popular manga instead? Bet that's much cheeper. (I did see a NEW Thai translation of Finder into Thai, which is 90s yaoi, so I have my fingers crossed on that front.)
I shouldn't be too surprised.
Thailand is running out of y-novel content. Their publication industry is just not robust enough (I was just talking to a friend about this at length recently). But I didn't think they had the funds to option, especially from Japan.
Perhaps the option deals are for peanuts?
7. Korea got cheeky
I’m not sure quite how else to put this.
Tumblr media
After finally figuring out boys can kiss, Korea started to do not just higher heat but playful higher heat, with more aggressive word play and linguistic innuendo, like they are entering their racy rom-com teenage years (Why R U? Love Class 2 and Jun & Jun in particular.)
I guess: Welcome to your BL teens, Korea?
It’s cute of them. I am very much enjoying it.
And now that comedy is warming them up, we get to see them play with actual queer burgeoning physicality in shows like The 8th Sense.
It’s nice. I like seeing Korea stretch its wings. They still stick to their bubble, but that bubble seems to be expanding.
8. The Amnesia Trope is back
And I, for one, would prefer to forget about it.
9. BL got trendy
I’m not quite sure how to articulate this category but basically we started seeing a lot of “modern” romance trends out of the west (like a/b/o) show up in our BL. Not a ton and sometimes quite small, but there has a been a steady rise of things like: no seme/uke, femme gay, out gay, condom use, messy gay.
Tumblr media
We also got an increasing range of sub genre frameworks (like mafia, office setting) that’s moved BL pretty firmly (even in Thailand) out of school and into the workplace, whether actual working is involved or not.
It’s not to the point where it feels like we get more non-school BL than school BL (if I include all countries in this assessment).
Japan, in classic Japanese fashion, quietly started moving in the opposite direction. It’s what they do.
Tumblr media
10. The Vampires are coming
This is an announcement trend, which I don’t usually report on but it’s so CLEAR.
So last year we had a spate of announcements of possible Omegaverse (2 from China, 1 from Japan, 1 from Thailand - the only one that’s happened).
This year we got 5 Vampire (or vampire-esk) Thai BLs announced including one from GMMTV.
Whether all 5 will actually get made is unlikely, but having had (basically) none prior to this (Kissable Lips), I’m pretty confident that we will get at least 2 of them. And I wouldn’t be surprised if at least one other country made one as well. (Side eyes Taiwan with interest.)
Tumblr media
Final thoughts
It feels like we are also seeing a decline in BL (both by quantity and quality) from Vietnam and the Philippines. As you all know, I don’t track or really watch either of these two very closely. But it feels like, now, no one else is either.
I think we have likely seen the BL heyday already in both places and their industries are now on the decline.
We might be witnessing a thinning in the players in the BL field.
FYI we had approximately
136 BLs in 2023

So. Addicted Heroin Thailand.
A small disclaimer first: I have neither watched any of the Chinese adaptations of Addicted Heroin nor did I read the novel. No wait, that's not true. I watched a few eps of the first series years ago but I barely remember anything about it (just global pandemic things, I guess).
Also, I only watched the tv-version of the first ep, which is apparently a whole 10 minutes shorter than the uncut version (and whatever they decided to cut, it's probably not spicy - unless it involves som tam or something) but ... I really like it so far? The cheap cash-grab argument that I've seen on MDL (🙄) doesn't hold up at all because they clearly put a lot of thought into this to turn it into an adaptation that (to me as an interfan at least) feels genuinely Thai - from ror dor to the public school backdrop to Pop reciting a poem by Sunthorn Phu (fun fact: it's the same poem that was prominently used in I Feel You Linger in the Air).
I also really like the production quality. It feels light and soft, kind of nostalgic actually - and while that's not how you'd describe the tone of the original novel (which is at least somewhat dark and toxic, I believe?) I don't think it necessarily has to since it's an adaptation and not a remake.
This is only the first episode of course and if you're hesitant about how this show will navigate around the age gap of the actors in light of the mature source material I'd hold back on watching for at least a few more eps.
That being said, I'm reasonably sure that Addicted Heroin Thailand will be a lot more soft and lighthearted than the original(s) - not unlike Jinloe's last show Hit Bite Love that had the younger cast in a separate, much more fluffy storyline.
Unfortunately, some people seem to expect or even want the show to be as dark and explicit as the novel, and there's of course nothing wrong with that, except that's not really a possibility with a cast that young. Going by what I've seen of the show so far, Jinloe are aware of this and have adapted the source material accordingly.
Granted, they could have chosen another, more lighthearted novel to adapt, but personally I don't think that an adaptation needs to be 100% screen-accurate (or is it novel-accurate?) to be an entertaining watch. There's plenty of themes to focus on, after all. Afaik, Stay With Me (the second Chinese adaptation) was well-received and the main characters didn't even kiss, so why single out this production as exploitative and unsafe* before it's even aired?
*Oh, and I've also seen people explicitly bash the show for its Thai-ness which is another matter entirely.
With the way things are right now (and I say this in good faith - don't go where I can't follow, Jinloe! 🙏) I don't really see how this show could ever live up to the controversy. Right now at least, it's got gmmtv-levels of toxicity (so, uh... about none).
tl;dr: The first episode of Addicted Heroin Thailand was cute and well done. That's about it.

A Swim | Leon S. Kennedy x Reader
I somehow had it on repeat while writing *cracks up*
summary: Colorado wasn’t the only self-indulgent vacation that Kennedy took before he found a road to sobriety. When the world is the oyster, Bangkok is the pearl.
content: cheesy af (help me), older Leon, drunkard Leon, thus mentions of alcoholism; mentions of/implied thoughts of suicide, kinda light angst (obviously); Hunnigan with an agenda; gn! and a tad bossy reader with Interpol background; heavy sexual tension, swearing
author’s note: that was unplanned and uncalled for, proceed at your own risk. Also, I need to scream about the man in Death Island. Omfg.
if you’re a minor, go away <3
love y’all, you beautiful souls
xoxo
***
Ingrid called you in the middle of the night, reassuring that only you could track down the infamous Leon S. Kennedy. You breathed out a sleepy “…Why?” and got a response that you could barely consider an explanation. He took a vacation, Hunnigan said. He seemed to disappear, and she needed him back immediately. You could not see her face, but you could hear a pretty please in her voice.
“I am not even under D.S.O. command.” You groaned lightly. You have been working with several D.S.O. agents for the past couple of years, particularly with agent Kennedy, but you have been directly reporting to Interpol instead.
“I have already cleared you for this assignment,” Ingrid confessed. You stayed silent for a moment and then sighed. There wasn’t anything that Hunnigan could not do, after all. “He trusts you.”
As for you, Leon Kennedy trusted no one, but you wouldn’t get into this argument.
“Where was he seen last time?” You pulled yourself out of bed and walked towards the pair of jeans that were casually hanging from the only chair present in your room.
“Ingrid?” You called again when radio silence was your answer.
“We assume he is Bangkok, Thailand, since two days ago.” You sensed a touch of guilt in Hunnigan’s voice. “You have already been booked for a commercial flight.”
It took your tired brain a bit of time to do the math.
“Isn’t it like fifteen hours or so from JFK?” You inquired, genuinely concerned.
“Twenty hours,” Ingrid confirmed mercilessly. “You need to be at the airport within an hour.”
Rushing to your wardrobe, you devotedly cursed Kennedy to the high heavens.
***
Bangkok was hot. Your shirt became almost transparent in minutes and now felt like a second skin clinging to your body. You didn’t like it. You didn’t like any of it. Not until you find the son of a bitch, Kennedy, who went rogue due to no particular reason and made a decision to vacay on the other side of the planet Earth.
The taxi driver that you hailed on the street was painfully chatty, thanks to your creeping headache, but your suffering was about to end when your cab stopped in the middle of the road abruptly.
“That’s the place.” The driver told you in broken English, and you swiftly left the creaking vehicle that smelled of cheap cigarettes and incense.
The place was a dimly lit bar with little to no likable people inside. Damned Leon S. Kennedy was occupying one of the bar stools but was also spearheading the list of human beings that you felt no sympathy for at this particular moment.
He was drunk. You knew he appreciated his liquor, but you had never seen him even close to the condition he was in right now.
You briefly messaged Hunnigan that you have just found her “runaway bride” before shortening the distance to Leon’s chair. He made no effort to check out the newcomer, and you took it to your advantage.
“Surprise, you asshole.” You greeted him coldly. The agent blinked; you could see gears turn inside his intoxicated head while he was trying to identify you.
Finally, he grunted.
“The heck are you doing here?” His voice was hoarse. You blamed it all on some cheap brandy in his whiskey glass. “I am on vacation.”
“Your vacation is my vacation now, too, after Hunnigan made me fly twenty fuckin’ hours to find you.” You grimaced and took over the closest seat to Leon. He looked annoyed. You didn’t care.
“You look like you’ve had enough.” You concluded, having his drinking spree in mind.
He let out a drunken laugh that was devoid of joy. “What’s it to you if I have? I can take care of myself.” He scoffed and slurred his words a little.
A stubborn dumbass—you let out a heavy, irritated sigh. You felt your heat-infused headache intensifying.
“You cannot.” You gave him an unimpressed look. “At least I don’t consider it self-care when one drinks himself to death.” That was harsh, you thought. But right now he probably deserved it.
Your comment seemed to strike a chord with him.
“I told you I can take care of myself!” He raised his voice slightly, and some of the patrons looked over.
Jesus Christ. You wouldn’t consider yourself religious, though.
“How are you planning to take care of yourself?” You raised your voice slightly, too, giving him an unappreciative look. Suddenly, you quietly snapped. “I don’t know what you are thinking, Kennedy, but this is not a vacation. That’s a bloody suicide waiting to happen.”
You have seen alcoholics in your line of work before, and it didn’t matter what Leon thought of himself in this situation – but he looked like one.
To your surprise, he went silent, visibly taken aback. He blinked; there was a noticeable glimmer of confusion in Leon’s eyes.
Did not he realize that he was hurting himself this much?
“I’m fine…” Kennedy groaned, although his denial was slowly crumbling. “I’ll be fine…”
You could see he fought it – the alcohol numbed his feelings, but now, with a glimpse of sanity, they seemed to return to him in droves.
You watched him in awkward silence while he was babysitting his demons until he looked at you, both headstrong…
… and embarrassed?
“I swear, it would be better if Hunnigan sent some D.S.O. shrink, not you.” He grunted in disappointment, unwillingly sobering up. This vacation was over.
“Ingrid is worried about you.” You muttered, then scoffed. “And I’m your witness, Leon – you haven’t been fine in years. I know you long enough.”
He didn’t have to like what you said, but you thought he needed to hear this.
Leon gave you a dirty look. How could you see through him? The rest was tiptoeing around his alcoholism for ages, nurturing his drunken arrogance. You might not be nice, but what the others did was not kind.
The man cursed and fumblingly pulled his wallet out of the back pocket of his Hawaiian-looking shorts; these made you stifle a chuckle. The image of invincible Leon S. Kennedy looking like this would be imprinted into your brain forever and ever.
He threw a few – too many – bills in local currency on the table and got himself up heavily from the bar stool. Now he towered over you grumpily. “What a buzzkill you are,” he mumbled, and you could smell that cheap brandy you noticed before on his breath.
You smirked, showing no remorse. “Let’s get you a cab, handsome.”
***
He stayed in one of the hotels right at the beach, and, stepping out of the taxi, you froze for a second, enjoying the view.
“That's one thing people got right about Thailand; it's beautiful here.” Leon hummed, approaching you from behind.
You still had your gaze fixed on the curves of the twilight bay when Kennedy spoke again. “You're right... I haven't been fine in years.”
You raised your eyebrows at him, making no attempts to hide your flabbergasted facial expression. Was this man admitting that he was wrong?..
Then pigs were about to start flying.
But Leon kept going.
“Do you want to know what's been happening in my head... How badly have things affected me?”
Was he even drunker than you thought?
“Yes, you dumbass.” You replied softly. Whether it was Ingrid’s push or not, Hunnigan was not the only one who cared about Leon to follow him around the globe.
The man walked towards the seashore, letting the waves lick his feet.
“My mind is so chaotic these days,” Kennedy admitted; his voice was barely a whisper. “Sometimes, I even lose sleep at night because of the nightmares of...”
Leon hesitated. You didn’t nudge, afraid of ruining his mood. He has already called you a buzzkill once.
At last, he sighed. Why was it so hard to talk about it?
“I made promises I couldn’t keep; that’s all you need to know.” Leon summed it up without looking at you. Did he really want to talk about it? You followed his tired, unfocused gaze, staring at the horizon.
“How about a swim?” Your suggestion came out of nowhere. You tilted your head, waiting for his response, and he glanced at you, confused, for the first time in the past moments.
Leon then let out a laugh in a drunken manner. “What? Now? In my state? I'll sink straight to the bottom.”
“You decided to vacation in Thailand – and not to swim?” You rolled your eyes at him jokingly and pulled him by his wrist. “Come on, Kennedy.” You begged. You might have been a tad aggressive back then, in the bar, but now…
You thought he deserved a break.
Leon groaned slightly but didn’t fight it, tagging along behind you. He felt a little dizzy; the cheapness of the served brandy was finally getting to him. Despite it all, he scoffed, his tone friendlier than before. “You are not going to let me forget that I am on vacation here, are you?”
You smirked, stepping into the gentle ocean waters and shamelessly ignoring his question. “We are not going to go far. I won’t let you drown, Kennedy.”
He smirked. “I trust you.” Oh, did he? Suddenly, shivers ran down your spine when you recalled Hannigan’s words. Why were you special?
You submerged in the water further with no regard to your clothes, now soaking wet. Leon, to your amusement, did the same.
“That should help with your hangover tomorrow.” You gave him a dirty look, and he huffed out a laugh.
“What's with all the dirty looks you've been giving me all day? You think I deserve it?”
“Oh, you deserve all of them.” You snorted - right before he pulled you by the waist, making you scoff out of surprise. You froze, barely reaching his chin covered with two-day stubble.
“You are drunk, Kennedy.” You reminded him softly, still making no attempts to leave his embrace. His intense gaze was trained on you.
“I'm not that drunk,” he scoffed, a grin forming on his lips. What the heck was going on?
“Oh, you are that drunk, Kennedy.” You smirked at him.
And then you felt it; his lips crashed into yours. Unconsciously, your hand darted to his hair, playing with the dirty blonde strands. A soft moan escaped your lips.
What were you thinking? It felt so wrong; you have been partners for years, and you didn’t like to mix work and pleasure. And if he had an excuse, let alone an awful one, to kiss you, you had none.
It felt so good, though.
Leon pulled away from your lips only when your lungs started to burn with a lack of air. His grin was too cheeky for your liking.
“You don't mind spending the night with me, do you?” The audacity.
You smirked. “I’ll spend a night with you when you sober up, handsome.” Otherwise, one of you might have regretted it – while him standing in front of you with wet hair and a soaked-up t-shirt made you hot and bothered. Damn, that man was fine. One way or another, at least.
“You should get to bed, Kennedy.” … And sleep through that hangover.
“Just one more…” He mumbled—one more taste of your lips. “... For today.”
Liar. So you whined into his lips softly when he kissed you again. And again.
Forcing yourself out of the water later, you looked at the boiling ocean; the waves crashed against each other as the sun set behind them. It took you all your willpower to let go of him this evening, and the only thought that brought you peace was that he was suffering at the loss of contact as much as you were.
***
You called him the following morning when you were making yourself a coffee.
“Hey.” Your lips curved into a smile. “How is your hangover, handsome?”
Leon, barely awake, first laughed, then groaned, and there was an audibly sound note of hangover in his voice, too.
“A dreadful headache... And I can still taste you on my lips, which doesn't help.” Your breath hitched. His comment about him tasting you stained your cheeks bright pink.
He yawned. “…I feel like crap.”
You mischievously bit your lip, although your tone was innocent. “Is there anything I can do to make you feel better?”
Leon, no doubt, knew precisely what would make him feel better right now.

Every year at this time I can’t help but think about this boss I once had who would not let her kids have any Xmas. She would spend a huge chunk of money for Xmas gifts for her best friend and also to make up these ridiculous gift packages full of cheap plastic crap from Oriental Trading Co. to send out as promotion to clients. She’d even drop decent money on her employees for a holiday party. And then she’d drag her kids (they were both under 12 the years I worked for her) and husband off to Thailand or India for these whirlwind vacations -traveling overnight on trains and all sorts of stuff for two weeks over the break.
Every year when it was time for the kids’ school holiday pageant she’d bitch up a fucking storm about how stupid it was. One year I heard her asking her kids if they’d care if she didn’t go because it was boring.
Neither of those kids ever got a single Xmas present. Her son would cry every year, beg for a Xmas tree, ask why they couldn’t stay home, etc. I felt so sorry for that kid.
He has got to be college age by now. I hope he’s found a way to have the Xmas tree of his dreams. And I hope someday he has a family of his own and he can have the Xmases he always wanted with them.
Both of those kids were born in Los Angeles and neither one of them ever got to go to Disneyland either. She hated it, thought it was “stupid” and “boring” as well.
And this was an older mom. Had those kids on purpose. But goddamn if her wants didn’t ALWAYS came before theirs. If her housekeeper/nanny couldn’t stay late to watch the kids so she could go drink champagne at Chateau Marmont on any given night it was a tragedy. Wasn’t very nice to her husband either. Every year she leased a brand new Mercedes station wagon for herself but the husband had to drive an old banger 1992 Honda because she felt “he didn’t need a nice car” and “it would be wasted on him”.
She was a real piece of work. Why do people like that even have kids?

10 Popular things are in shocked cultures, but it is norms in Thailand.
TW/CW: Mentioned to blood, depiction of massacre, and long post.
Knock-knock~~!
Hi, everyone! It's so long time to I did write long post with my experience about my country that is very norm and weird in meantime. But for foreigners who is visited to Thailand for their first time that is very shocked with our culture. LOL.
Ok, everyone! I'll tell you something about those popular culture shocked in Thailand, which you should know when you come visit to Thailand in your first timely.
Tumblr media
The spirit house (In Thai called "ศาลพระภูมิ (San Phrabhumi)") is a small shrine for sanctuary of laid spirits or tutelary spirit that called by Brahmins or shamans who highly experienced in using conjuring and invocation practice. They are created it for protection their house, habitation, accommodation, or own land. It is very norms in Thai culture, but if you see the spirit house what ruined on roadside or abandoned place. Please avoid it, if you can. And reason many people are always worshiping them with offering by red soft drink. They are believed that red is color of powerful, heat and courage. (It seems like Chinese belief.) But in fact, worshiping by offering with red soft drink is origin from worshiping with offered by blood by animism which it did before Buddhism and Indian culture had been influence in Southeast Asia. Then, after Buddhism and Indian culture had influenced in Southeast Asia. Worshipping with offered by blood restricted for Brahmins, shamans, necromancers, or someone who use black magic practice. However, now. They are popular worshipping with offer by red soft drink instead of blood, because it is safer than worshiping by offering with blood. Also, red soft drink is very easy to find where to buy which rate is cheap and it is safe too.

2. Don't pick up something from natural places, historical sites, archaeological sites, or a place of worship such as temple¹, church, mosque, etc. Because it maybe brings curse spell put on yourself and it does illegal too. And also, many people are not pick up anybody who strange people up on their car or vehicle, if it has not necessity too.
Tumblr media
3. Keep be a quiet, if you hear or noticed something is weird or someone who called you while you are staying at your house, or your accommodation in the night. Because, if you did scream or reply. You maybe get unfortunate to yourself. The belief which from urban legend that said, creating a city pillar with tutelary spirit by they will be buried alive humans somebody names are "อิน (In), จัน (Chan), มั่น (Man), คง (Khong)". Thus, people who are own those names. They would keep quiet up. Indeed, in the past, it existed many burglars at night. It makes to help you have more awareness and for mute them for unknow from your position in the darkness, and also, while you are travelling then you see something is weird thing on roadside. Please keep your doubt up when you arrived at your home which your country or ignore it.
Tumblr media
4. When you wanna itinerary for high season, you should be check about date and time before to do booking a hotel or accommodation. Because if you do travel in high season without, check it before do booking. you have to get over it, which is a hotel or accommodation is full. But if you see somewhere is an available room or a floor is abandoned, it is to be very ok, if you can avoid it. If you can't do it, you should be do pray owner or guest who are not human. In addition, you should do cleansing on yourself when you back to arrive at your house or your accommodation or your home (Your country).
Tumblr media
5. You should do pray for landlord² with respectful. Reason is many Thai people believed anywhere have landlord who tutelary is a deity or a spirit who is a guardian, patron or protector of special area. So, you should educate about how worshiping or praying for them. Because their habit is different, then, when you do pray them correctly. They will protect you and bless you, also, you should thank you them before you will back your home or your country.
Tumblr media
6. If you see brocades tied around on the tree, you should know that maybe exist nymph is haunted. (In Thai called as "นางไม้ (Nang Mai)") She is haunted in that tree. And somebody who is lucky which lottery by her, so, they did always worship back to her for thankful.
Tumblr media
7. Many people usually are praying and worshiping with their vehicles before they will leave their home. It is very norm for someone who is driver, pilot, or fishmen. Their reason is believing that is the spirit or deity who guarding their vehicle, she is a goddess or woman deity. Her name is "แม่ย่านาง (Mae Ya Nang)" She is a goddess or woman deity who protects their vehicles and travelers by bless to them for safety, her worshiping is not only in Thailand, but also in Lao and Cambodia too. It is assumed that the goddess maybe origin from Chinese goddess who sea deity name is "Mazu (Traditional Chinese: 媽祖 and Simplified Chinese: 妈祖)". Which is assumed from Chinese voyage where came in Ayutthaya in Ayutthaya Kingdom era.
Tumblr media
8. Many Thai people mostly to do these daily routines are take a shower and wash their face in morning or evening, they always do take off their shoes and wash their feet when before to come their home or go to bed at night. Because they believed it is cleansing and protected from negative energy or bad spirit that is hidden. Indeed, Thailand is tropical. Thus, weather in Thailand is almost of hot and warm. In addition, it can help to take away from dirty by muds, soil and deodorize too.
Tumblr media
9. While you are waiting your meal order in restaurant then you see many tables have sauces and seasonings, it is very norms in Thai cuisine. So, you can put it in your meals what you want your flavor. And also, you can see mostly beverages are always serving with ice basket or put ice in your drinking for cool off and freshly. However, you can drink it purely by without ice too.
Tumblr media
10. In Thailand, these are many variously stories, beliefs, or urban legends are different by depending on their geographical regions. I will give a few examples, such as in north belief that if you see the red flag on roadside, that is death symbol. Or in south belief that they will not be popular to plant a wild banana tree closed to their house, because it maybe nymph³ is haunted. (In Thai called nymph who is haunted in a wild banana tree as "นางตานี (Nang Tani)") However, it has seemed similar such as north, northeast, central, west, or south are believed that if you see the barn owl or the Asian barred owlet is on your roof. It is ominous, you have to do get it out.
Indeed, it has a lot of stories to tell you and everyone who read it on my blog. But I chose these top 10 topics, in my reason is it is the most popular culture that I saw many foreigners who is in Thailand. And from my friend who has visited in Thailand too. They were very shocked when just see these things in their first time. Thus, I just wanna share my opinion that I get it from my experience, doing research and a little idea about it.
However, you can always visit my country every day, if you are interested! I hope, you will enjoy this!
Notes:
Temple¹ in Thai is meaning "วัด (Wat)" which called as Buddhist place in Thailand, but I just noticed that in English that "Temple" is not only called temple in Buddhist place, but it can also call in Hindu place in Thai called "เทวาลัย (Devalaya)", or "มณเฑีร (Mandir)" (In English called "Hindu Temple", In Hindi called "Mandir", but in Kannada called "Devasthana", in Tamil called "Kovil"), Jain place in Thai called "วัดเชน (Wat Jain)", or "เชนสถาน (Jain Sathan)" (In English aka. Jain Temple, in Gujarati called "Derasar", or in Kannada called "Basadi"), and ancient religions such as ancient Egyptian, ancient Greek, or Mesopotamian too. (You can read more about temple on Wikipedia) Landlord² in here as English as known as "tutelary spirit", in Thai is meaning "ผีเจ้าที่ (Phee Chao tee)". Nymph³ in Thai is meaning "นางไม้ (NangMai)" which spirit is haunted in tree. In Thai language, they will call nymphs followed with name of trees. They will say "Nang (นาง)..." followed with name of trees, such as "นางตะเคียน (Nang Ta Khain)". She is nymph who haunted an Ironwood tree (Hopea odorata), or "นางตานี (Nang Tani)". She is nymph who haunted a wild banana tree (Musa balbisiana). But in my opinion to translation for the spirit of tree in Thai language is "Nymph", my reason is, it is approximate to her image appearance is similar as nymph's image appearance in western. But they are different as nymphs in west are often not wearing any clothes but nymphs in Thailand are usually wearing traditional clothes, however, they are same as they are appeared to as women.

British lawyer Simone White has become the fifth tourist to have died in a suspected mass poisoning in Laos, south-east Asia.
The UK's Foreign Office confirmed the 28-year-old's death on Thursday, saying: "We are supporting the family of a British woman who has died in Laos, and we are in contact with the local authorities."
It comes after the family of 19-year-old Australian national Bianca Jones confirmed her death earlier on the same day.
Hours earlier, the US State Department told the media that an American man died in the tourist town of Vang Vieng.
Two Danish women, aged 19 and 20, also died last week in Laos, Danish authorities confirmed, declining to share more due to confidentiality concerns.
The deaths remain under police investigation, but news reports and testimonies online from other tourists suggest they may have consumed drinks laced with methanol, a deadly substance often found in bootleg alcohol.
Vang Vieng is a small, riverside town in central Laos and a hub for young Westerners backpacking across Southeast Asia. It's home to the Banana Pancake Trail - a popular backpacking route spanning Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
Jones's friend Holly Bowles is in hospital on life support, while a British woman is also reportedly in hospital.
New Zealand's foreign ministry told local media on Thursday that one of its citizens was also unwell from suspected methanol poisoning. And the Netherlands' foreign affairs ministry said that a Dutch tourist was sent to the hospital but is in stable condition. It is unclear how many others have fallen ill.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the department of foreign affairs had confirmed Jones's death.
"Our first thoughts in this moment are with her family and friends who are grieving a terrible and cruel loss," Albanese said on Thursday afternoon.
"This is every parent's very worst fear and a nightmare that no one should have to endure."
He said he hoped Ms Bowles, who is currently at Bangkok Hospital, would recover well.
The US State Department said it was "closely monitoring" the situation with regards to the American victim, adding that it was up to local authorities to determine the cause of death.
Australian, New Zealand and UK authorities have each warned their citizens to be careful of methanol poisoning when consuming alcohol in Laos.
Nana Backpacker Hostel, where the two Australian women stayed in Vang Vieng, told the BBC that it was closed for police investigation.
The hostel’s manager told the Associated Press that the two women were among more than 100 guests who received free shots of Lao vodka from the hostel. The pair then headed out for the night, he said, adding that no other guests reported health issues.
The manager said he hoped the investigation would clear the hostel’s name, but said they have stopped giving free shots for now.
In a statement to Australian newspaper the Herald Sun, Jones’s family expressed their "deepest gratitude for the overwhelming support, love, and prayers we’ve received from across Australia".
"We kindly ask for privacy as we navigate through our grief and begin to heal," the statement said.
Unlike ethanol, the key component of alcoholic beverages, methanol is toxic to humans. Bootleg liquor producers sometimes add it to their drinks, however, as a cheap way to increase alcohol content.
Earlier this year, at least 57 people in India died after consuming methanol-laced liquor. Similar cases of mass poisoning have also been reported across the world, from the Philippines to Peru. It has hospitalised and even killed dozens in Indonesia over the years, but it has rarely affected tourists.

[bonk] im trying ><! thank u liz 💜💜💜 youre the best
25. what is a weird, hyper-specific detail you know about one of your characters that is completely irrelevant to the story?
this is... Sort of relevant to the story, but on our way up!akk is specifically not very good at cooking (as opposed to aye, who is and does it as a bonding activity with his mom). i got into this a little in the prompt i did for tiis, but. i think he got a bit spoiled by his parents on that front as a kid and didn't put effort into learning to do it until it was much too late. plus thailand also has a much bigger, like street food culture than anywhere i've ever been, so when he moves to suppalo i imagine that's how he gets by, mostly by buying cheap premade street food meals. anyway my point here is: akk, of the irresistable-to-adults good boy manners and wide innocent eyes, is universally beloved by the street food vendors he goes to (see the aunties from e6) and they gossip constantly about him. this eventually extends to the market aunties in bangkok in ch4, who eventually replace beam as jai's boyfriend in their stories with akk since he starts going more often with her lmao. aye hates that

Turkey's not the only T country having an important election, THAILAND! had its election the vote count is underway we'll see if there will be another Shinawatra Prime Minster, if the Military will allow it, etc
BANGKOK, May 14 (Reuters) - Thailand's political opposition looked on course for a huge win in Sunday's election, as voters turned out in force behind two parties promising big changes and an end to a decade of conservative government led or backed by the military.
The Pheu Thai Party and the liberal Move Forward party surged ahead with more than 90% of the votes counted, but are far from certain to lead the next government, with parliamentary rules written by the military after its 2014 coup skewed in its favour.
To rule, the opposition parties will need to strike deals, including with members of a junta-appointed Senate that sided with military parties and gets to vote on who becomes prime minister and form a government.
Sunday's election was the latest bout in a long-running battle for power between Pheu Thai, the populist juggernaut of the billionaire Shinawatra family, and a nexus of old money, conservatives and military with influence over key institutions at the heart of two decades of turmoil.
But the stunning performance by Move Forward as it rides a wave of support from young voters will test the resolve of Thailand's establishment and ruling parties, after it came close to a clean sweep of the capital Bangkok, campaigning on a platform of reform of institutions and a dismantling of business monopolies.
Its leader, Pita Limjaroenrat, a 43-year-old former executive of a ride-hailing app, described the outcome as "sensational" and vowed to stay true to his party's values when forming a government.
"It will be anti-dictator-backed, military-backed parties, for sure," he told reporters. "I think it's safe to assume that minority government is no longer possible here in Thailand."
He said he remained open to an alliance with Pheu Thai, but has set his sights set on the premiership.
"If Move Forward comes in first, we will form a government and I will be prime minister," Pita added.
MAJOR BLOW
The preliminary results will be a crushing blow for the military and its allies, with the Palang Pracharat, the political vehicle of the former junta, and Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha's United Thai Nation, seemingly headed for a big defeat.
Prayuth, a retired general who led the last coup, had campaigned on continuity after nine years in charge, warning of instability from a change in government.
On Sunday, Prayuth slipped away quietly from his party headquarters, where there were few supporters to be seen.
A handful of staff sat beside plates of uneaten food and a giant television screen was showing a live speech by Move Forward's leader.
"I hope the country will be peaceful and prosper," he told reporters. "I respect democracy and the election. Thank you."
The early results were expected for Pheu Thai, which together with previous incarnations dissolved by courts has dominated Thailand elections, winning most votes in every ballot since 2001, including two landslide victories.
Founded by the polarising self-exiled tycoon Thaksin Shinawatra, Pheu Thai remains hugely popular among the working classes and was banking on being swept back to power by nostalgia from a raft of populist policies, like cheap healthcare, micro-loans and generous farming subsidies.
Thaksin's daughter Paetongtarn, 36, has been tipped to follow in her father's footsteps and become prime minister.
She said she was happy for Move Forward, but it was too soon to discuss alliances.
"The voice of the people is most important," she said.
Move Forward saw a late-stage rally in opinion polls and was betting on 3.3 million first-time voters getting behind its liberal agenda, including plans to weaken the military's political role and amend a strict law on royal insults that critics say is used to stifle dissent.
Thitinan Pongsudhirak, a political scientist at Chulalongkorn University, said Move Forward's surge demonstrated a major shift in Thai politics.
"Pheu Thai fought the wrong war. Pheu Thai fought the populism war that it already won," he said.
"Move Forward takes the game to the next level with institutional reform. That's the new battleground in Thai politics. ..And the votes today are a testament to Move Forward's forward-looking programme for Thailand."

Young Susan
Tumblr media
Susan took a sip of her coffee and smiled as she thought back to her younger days. Before she was married, she had loved to travel to new places as a single girl, always open to any experience that came her way. She had done it regularly, and it had been one of the most exciting times of her life.
She put her fingers on the keyboard and began to type, reliving those adventures in her mind as she wrote.
I remember the thrill of setting out on a new adventure. The world was wide open, and I was ready to explore it. I would pack a backpack with just a few essentials and hit the road, never quite sure where I would end up.
It wasn't always easy, of course. Traveling alone as a woman could be daunting at times. But I loved the freedom of it all, the feeling of being in charge of my own destiny. I would meet new people, try new foods, and learn about new cultures. It was exhilarating.
One of my favorite trips was a solo journey to Southeast Asia. I had heard about the incredible food, the stunning landscapes, and the friendly people, and I knew I had to see it for myself. I backpacked through Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam, taking in the sights and sounds of each country.
I remember sitting on a beach in Thailand, watching the sunset over the ocean and feeling completely at peace. I had no worries, no deadlines, no one to answer to but myself. It was a feeling of complete liberation.
I also loved traveling within the United States. I would hop on a bus or a train and visit new cities, staying in cheap hostels and meeting people from all over the world. I remember one trip to San Francisco, where I made friends with a group of street performers in the Haight-Ashbury district. We played music together and danced in the streets, and I felt like I was part of something special.
Of course, there were times when I felt lonely or scared. But those moments were few and far between, and the thrill of exploring new places always outweighed the negatives.
As I look back on those days, I realize how important they were to shaping who I am today. I learned to be independent, to take risks, and to embrace the unknown. And while I may not be able to travel as freely as I used to, I still carry that sense of adventure with me wherever I go.

Dedicated to all the mangled kids on that bus in victoria.
It wouldve been a far saner response to just pay me. Rather than mangle you. What can anyone say to you. You poor darling children. Caught in your parents fight and it clearly being a losing one, for them.
Us. A losing one for all of us, swept up in all the unreasonable things that these animals steal from us. No amount of money can feed all the nation states that have withered because of a vast empire, that wont let go of the nation states it fails to provide for but repeatedly steals from instead.
Food - streetfood is tasty as it is a toughening of guts, just like riding on vehicles that your body is no longer designed to travel on for long periods of time. But we do it. To show all those people and all their prizes, worth nothing. Amounting to meaningless photos. That boxed in is you and im eating you. To be pushed out as waste and fed to the fishes. Along the mekong.
Thailand is the ultimate threesome. Always caught in the middle of some kind of war, designed by tho s e other monarchies with too much butnot enough for all of their nations. Just mo r e at the top, way less down the bottom. Its a crown of thorns waiting to be crucified.
Now, with the us, trying to strangle it, despite strong ties to china and not the communisty china but the heart of china. So agriculture and industry. Covid was a clear moment just like september 11. For those old, incestuous pompous royals, their celebrity status, is killing them from the inside/out. Just like all the fake tears, they shed in outfits worth far more than what they really amount to, lives. Your lives, disabled and no longer designed to do, as you may have done, had we all just been compensated appropriately.
The weak steal. Everyone else has money, they just dont spend it on them and their fake prizes and shitty clothes. Cheap women, worth a dime a dozen. Bought and sold in a game that has mangled us. Mangled people, innocent children, all because of the unreasonable.
Places burn, children shouldnt get mangled by psycho truck drivers. I hope you always try to see the goodness in life despite this instance. That you become future leaders so this doesnt happen to other people like you, children, free, innocent, sweet. Able and uncompromised.
My birthmark is getting bigger, what was once ceylon is now something else. A new design from all your amputations. A weak leader, an even weaker political regime run by our fodder.
Actual Leaders with their children bo u nd in their borders, demanding cooperation. A stillness i felt as i rang those 7 bells. Trying to make them harmonise for our King. Its difficult when the one we entrust betrays us, the most. It wouldve been easier to stay single but confidants in this game are few and far to find. So we scale the skies like birds. Trying our hardest to protect everything in our grasps. Out of love. But, dignity.
A value the unreasonable will never understand, like they do. With someone as small as me, just trying to learn from them, not someone to be taught from. For a long while. Its darkk days where ever anyone tries to place themselves. Better to be supported rather than playing a charade in a game where all anyone wants is your blood. Which they have known, firstly. Car crashes, one eye staring up at the sky, gun in hand. Ready to make it rain, at any time.
For the people. Not for themselves.

Looong q short ,have you ben to Phrae ,what to do and do you know how to get round without a veichle
Hi again! 💜
First of all, yay for your Thailand trip! I bet it's going to be amazing. I've not been to Phrae (or Thailand in general but hopefully SOON) but from what I've seen and read it's really beautiful and rich in culture and history. You could try visiting one of the many Buddhist temples and museums? Or maybe join a tour to visit one of the caves, mountains or forest parks in general? Oh, and have lots of tasty street food and visit one of the markets. Here's a bucket list of places that google gave me for Phrae.
As for getting around... there's probably guided tours for tourists. Maybe the place you'll stay at can help you with that? Or if you want to be more independent there's probably busses and taxis (maybe even trains? personally I'm a huge nerd when it comes to train rides lmao).
I'm so sorry I can't be of more help. Maybe try one of the many expat communities for info on how to best get around? Or make a thread in the boyslove reddit? There's probably quite a few BL fans there who've been to Thailand and can help you out.
