they did jamil's story so dirty, so im here to do him justice. honestly, a lot of my depictions of him come from various pieces of arabic literature that criticize the caste system/social hierarchy as a whole. a lot of our most romantic literature comes from people who could not be in love with their muses due to social/ethnic hierarchies. as such, a lot of the writing that i have done of jamil is inspired by those conflicts and just arabic poetry in general.

his story is very underdeveloped and the fandom treats him horribly. that isn't controversial, at least i don't think so. there's a lot of orientalism in the work of twisted wonderland when it comes to the scarabia duo, as well as leona kingscholar too, so im just doing my best to rectify that via sharing bits of arab culture and history through him and kalim as well, soon enough. i wanna do with same with leona, hopefully. im not east african, but i am yemeni and it takes like one-two hours in a boat from the coast of aden to get to east africa.

recently, i have been looking into studying swahili. btw, swahili comes from the arabic word meaning "coast" but it is a bantu language. due to their proximity to the coast and the arabian peninsula, the languages and cultures have mixed a lot (look into socotra island). all that rambling aside, i love the scarabia duo and leona. they deserved better from the creators as well as the fandom.

Vampires tend to love... uniquely, intensely, breathlessly.

In the majority of cases, they're prone to viewing other beings as nothing more than sources of sustenance or, in the off chance a human proves themselves to be more entertaining than the average — they're usually regarded as possessions. But when a vampire falls in love? The laws that guide the trajectory of their existence stumble from their axis.

Vampire!Alhaitham has never had to worry about these niche concerns, maintaining his peaceful (albeit dreary) life was his sole goal. Complications in his life arise not because of the fact that he's fallen hopelessly in love with a human, but because initially, he's unable to understand the nature of those thus-foreign feelings. Logically so, he was not supposed to end up in this predicament at all. Imagine if a tiger fell in love with a deer mid-chase and started seeing it as a potential partner instead of lunch ; the notion is ridiculous in every sense.

To further complicate things, Vampire!Alhaitham was supposed to get rid of your existence as ordered by the higher ups, you don't even qualify as a blood bag to them. All these preconditions confused and made him think more than he should've. Thus, unnecessarily tangling one single thread in many knots. Alhaitham's strength is keeping lucidity in dire situations, so he's able to identify the subconscious and treacherous pulls of his soul in the direction of something dangerous easily.

Which is why, he opts to try distancing himself after repeated failures in ending the beat of your life. But of course, this too backfires when someone else is appointed behind his back to finish the job and this time, Vampire!Alhaitham allows his feelings to lead him, for once.

His jealousy is quite apparent because it manifests in actions guised under protective measures. Though, he'd like to wholeheartedly believe he isn't jealous, because jealousy to him is an expression of insecurity, of the fact that he isn't confident enough in either himself or you. Ironically, this belief only makes it worse until he's patched up and got you nice and secure in his secrete residence.

Keeping you at a place he knows is safe gives him plenty of time and steadiness of mind to research and learn about these feelings. His aim is, after all, keeping you safe, content and happy. It is through that research that he realizes that jealousy is not just an expression of insecurity ; but of a significant quantity of love and care.

Think about it, why would one even feel insecure of their hold on someone if that person wasn't to a degree... precious to them? Alhaitham understands that, it's the weight of his love for you that makes those irritating and bitter feelings surface regardless of how much he tries to stomp them down. The realization might be faulty, but it pacifies a lot of his inner conflicts and reassures him that he needn't be ashamed of his emotions.

Although, now that he understands another facet of this enigma called ‘love’ and can now rationalize it, his jealousy takes a more insufferable turn — for others, that is.

Timewing got really excited about this one so a lot of the answers are his, I just added on afterward with my thoughts, so the first bullet point will be hers, and the second one is mine!!

When did his tail get permanently fucked up and how did he mess it up so badly?

- I assume he tried to crush it or break it violently enough that it needed to be amputated. One way of the latter reason probably would've been falling off the roof of the house back first. One way of the former reason is heading out to a field and trying to slam a hay bale on it. - I personally like to think he'd gone far enough to get his hands on a spare tire from their father's truck and,, crunch! It was the only way he could think of doing enough damage while getting away with it since the car had issues enough to need active little fixes and tweaks, including tire changes. He was around 17 or 18 during all of this, by the way. Unlike his ears, this isn't one his family knows was purposeful.

His powers get unstable when he gets like ,, real upset so besides the night he slapped Pony, are there any instances where he just got outta control?

- There are so many instances but it happens more so when he's stressed. There were a few situations where during tests during school he accidentally ended up making an entire class of 20+ students so anxious a few were sent home and a couple jocks had panic attacks. Another instance was (using the musical for this) when he and Soda were brought in to be asked abt Pony's whereabouts and he got so pissed off with the questioning that he also heightened the officer's anger and nearly got himself arrested. Also the rumble. I think that speaks for itself. - A couple other instances I can think of are after their parents died, when Dally got shot, and uh. The entirety of the duration that Pony was gone, though that was mostly him heightening his own distraught compared to anyone else. He probably does it every now and then at work too during rough work days, which makes for some interesting occurences.

- Absolutely. He stresses abt it every second of every minute of every hour of every day. - A little fact that Darry doesn't know, though, is that after Paul's powers are presented he has a level of resistance to certain types of curse-related powers! He's not immune, per se, but Darry's manipulation, Soda's song, and Johnny's death sense are all a little lowered; this is because he's in the direct bloodline of the witch who cursed Tulsa. In the way that Johnny can't see Paul's death date (but can get flashes of it), Soda's siren song is easier for Paul to break himself out of and he can tolerate Darry's manipulation for a little longer before caving into it. Parry fans can rest easy knowing that Paul's love for Darry is 100% genuine. Unfortunately, Darry does not know that </3

- It's mostly the Latin nicknames that get him. He may not know what the hell Paul is saying but he's in love with it anyway. But he's also especially fond of being called the ever so typical "sugar" - Yeah it's just a bunch of Latin and then the usually sappy ones. Darling, Doll, etc. Paul hits him with “Optimum accidit mihi” ("The best thing to happen to me") once and Darry would actually fold if he knew it.

- I imagine maybe once but there was also when he went hunting for Two's stolen feathers and was... scary. He's a scary dude, no one wants to mess with a fae that has that much muscle and is probably not afraid to bite you. - I also agree that,, yyyyeah, Darry is arguably one of the greasers to get jumped the least, including post-book. He works a lot too, so it's not like there are many open instances for him to walk around. Darry definitely told Paul any weaknesses that did exist, but I like to imagine Paul kept those real tight to his chest- He absolutely used them himself during their time hating each other, but could never get himself to tell the other socs; it was a level of trust he couldn't bring himself to break, especially since Darry had seen and heard his own share of things from Paul that he never spilled. The Socs also didn't know that Darry was what Paul valued the most; sure, Paul was very clearly into him, buuuut they make their own assumptions regarding his sexuality and how things go relating to it-

-I could definitely imagine a scenario where they attempt to sabotage Darry and Paul's relationship out of spite if they knew how dedicated Paul is.

I don't care for Ales in general, but I do love him in this AU and his scary dog. He's the boyfailure ever.

For a smidgin of context, Ales is trying to flee the glade after everything went to shit. However, since lums are sort of getting cooked, there is limited energy to go around, especially when you heavily rely on them to do anything. So, he switched to electoons, even if they're less efficient.

However, a wrench is thrown into his plan when his whole electoon supply is eaten by a very hungry hoodray.

Ales is not happy about this arrangement at all (he's a horrid pet owner).

Now, instead of smoothly fleeing the Glade, Ales has to take care of a hoodray who basically acts like a super unpredictable stray dog that's super clingy but could easily kill him. But if Ales pets him enough and keeps him well fed, he could have a very powerful ally for the future.
