He can hear the occasional swear word in Spanish as his voice raises. Eddie doesn’t like to raise his voice around Christopher – the very thought makes Buck want to kiss him full on the mouth – so he decided to take it to the living room while Chris sits with his homework in the kitchen and Buck cooks.

“Hmm?” Buck asks, unable to fully pull himself out of Bobby’s baked mac and cheese recipe. It took him years, but he finally convinced the man to write it down. Bobby’s handwriting was juvenile at best on a good day, but this was nearly unreadable. Buck wonders if he did that on purpose. “Frogs?”

“Yeah!” Chris states. “My teacher said that if you put a frog in a pot, you have to make sure it’s not immediately boiling. You put them in water and then slowly raise the temperature and they won’t realize what’s happening. Then once they realize, they have no place to go. They can’t jump out.”

Evie’s finger works under the seal to rip it open, a stack of important looking papers dumping out onto the table in front of her.

“Not me,” she says without looking up as she organizes them into a neat stack, “I was engineered.”

And Buck’s pretty fucking sure a giant, cataclysmic hole has ripped right open, dragging him down to the earth’s core where he vaporizes into dust.

This a Post 5A road trip fic. Buck makes a rash decision on a call and is barred from returning to work until he passes a psych evaluation. Bobby convinces him to go on a cross country trip in an RV, oh! and Buck and Eddie aren't currently on speaking terms so like peak angst right there, delicious. This fic is so beautifully written, so heartfelt and I have not laughed, cried and grinned so much in my life. Absolutely adore this fic.

i’m such a slut for focus shifts. it’s such a concise way of the camera telling the audience what’s important. whether the focus changes from the foreground to the background in a shot, or keeps something in frame in the foreground while focusing on something in the background, it’s the very definition of “a picture is worth a thousand words.”

It occurs to Eddie later this is the closest he’s ever been to punching a superior.

It doesn’t so much surprise him that he felt this way, rather that he didn’t feel as strongly as this before. There were many moments in the army – hell, in the Dairy Freeze he worked in the summers in high school – where the inclination would’ve made much more sense than a figure he viewed as family. However, in the end, Eddie supposes it was inevitable. Inevitable that he’s feeling Bobby’s hands grip against his turnout, still askew and half-off where Chimney once was, hands running up his chest while he checked for injuries. Chimney is long gone, sprinting to where Hen cries out, the panic in her voice palpable and Eddie only has one functioning ear at the moment.

All of that means nothing to him, really.

Instead, he���s unilaterally focused on the helmet sitting on the ground as innocently as if someone placed it there. Rain, crashing against the visor, the flashlight still on and flickering in the storm. A helmet that should be on the head of the figure collapsed on the ground yards away. It’s too far. Too far for a helmet to be away from the head it’s meant to protect. It’s all Eddie can see in the moment, because he thinks as soon as he lifts his gaze, everything will shift. He feels Bobby’s grip on his shoulder and it digs painfully in his skin, the whisper of a bullet in his ear with no figure standing in front of him.

For the first time since he can remember, Eddie feels alone.

He brings the phone away from his ear to make sure he called the right person because that is not how Eddie would react. Eddie hates Abby – Buck knows he hates Abby no matter how poorly he tries to hide it. Eddie’s never been particularly good at his hiding his disdain for Buck’s girlfriends, and now when Buck needs him to ratchet it up to eleven? Nowhere to be found. Eddie has put Buck on a raft and pushed him out to sea. “What do you mean, ‘and?’” Buck hisses in the phone. “That’s not enough life changing information for you?” “Buck, why would it be life changing to be sleeping at the house you own with your wife?” * Or, Buck thinks too hard about couches, his past relationships, and the stupid alarm that just won’t shut up.

OH HEY! I LOVED THE STARLESS SEA! SO AMAZING! It runs in the same vein as her first novel, The Night Circus, but it’s a book about stories and storytelling. It has a lot of great lines and imagery and really cool characters with some awesome representation.

the moodboards are the only way I know how to show it love at the moment. lol
