Hi, Puff! I got a question about Lore Rekindled. I think you said that the titan we see during the night, when Perse went on the roof to talk to Hades(?), was Selene? I was just wondering why you chose a colour that was more purple for her skin and the literal night sky for her hair? 🤔 y'know, instead of all silver like how Helios is all gold? I think she looks cool but the colours make me think of Nyx instead of Selene. Or was it because it was a new moon night so you technically can't see the moon even though it's actually there?
Good luck on the next episode! I can't wait to read it! 😄
Ah, good question! So when designing Selene, I wanted her to actually resemble the moon in some way, more so than how she was tackled in LO. Her hair blending into the night sky is meant to give off the same impression of the darkness covering the moon, causing the different phases of the moon - sometimes her form is half-concealed, sometimes she's fully exposed, etc.
I wasn't really expecting people to confuse her with Nyx (though I don't blame anyone for that) as Nyx has a much more regular role in LO than Selene (though not by much lmao) and a far more unique design which I'm planning on retaining if/when she appears in the comic. Though I will be making some changes to Nyx's design and concept as well for the sake of the worldbuilding, but you'll have to wait and see what I do with her in that regard ;3
To me, when I picture the moon in the magical, ethereal, larger-than-life sense that I would picture Helios within the design context of LO, I wanted her to be more than just a silver Persephone-looking goddess riding around on a horse (and the reality is that Selene was barely in the comic when she first made her appear in LR, like prior to the finale when she was suddenly dropped into the comic as a real character she was just sort of this background NPC with a single cameo appearance, much like Charon).
So I ultimately went with more of a shimmering mixed blue palette, which is complementary to Helios' golden color schemes, and implemented her more into the sky as an actual force of nature much like how Helios is the sun. This was sort of the compromise that I came to between designing a more myth accurate Selene vs. designing a Selene that would fit in better with the world of LO. In this case, like Helios, she's not riding around in a chariot, but is the moon itself who comes out after Nyx has brought about the night.
I hope that answers your question! <3 And definitely hang tight for that Nyx design in the future ;3

why is charons outfit so spiffy. did vergil tell the head of limbus that shes part of the package and not only that but shes needs the specialist dress in the world. did he say they need to have father daughter matching palettes. did charon refuse to be a part of lcb until she got to wear something nice. was the seam team so bored from making suits that when they learned they could make a fancy moody dress they went all out. did the lobo leader call charon and vergil into the lobo office and just start making sketches on the spot for their particular outfits. vergils outfit doesn't look like a uniform, as much as designed to fit his look specifically. did he buy his own suit and charons outfit? where did she get that hat

favorite visual moments from the new season?
Ooh that's a tough one! (Although I do have a lil compilation of some of my favourite symbolic shots from prior seasons here <3 definitely not-conclusive though) But there are some definite favourites!
I loved the consistent wrist-chain-hand clasp thing going on in Finnegrin's Wake (and Viren's dark magic dreams) so much I actually wrote a meta all about it
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also adored this shot of the broyals with the keyhole from Finnegrin's office - just very creative and I'm always on the lookout for anything to do with keys
Tumblr media
This shot of Rayla lined up with the lamb in the portrait makes me more nervous than it probably should and was another major fave
Tumblr media
Any and all shots up on the Storm Spire surrounded by clouds is a definite win 10/10. I loved the sharp lighting in the scenes with Viren and Kpp'Ar
Tumblr media
Lux Aurea has also always been my favourite location so getting to go into the streets more in depth/detail and with the purple haze to everything? Truly stunning. Special shout out to the actual outside of the Bookery as well
Tumblr media
The scene in the cave with Sol Regem was amazing and water animation has always been my fave kind of animation, so anything with rain in particular this season (Claudia, Terry, and Ezran facing the storms / the various boats sailing) was so much fun / striking visually. The transition of the prison into the moon predictably haunts me as well
I loved how Akiyu told the backstory through images in the water with ink (?) and Scumport's foggy / gray colour palette (+ bonus points discount Charon imagery). Finnegrin's big window in his scumport tower lit the room really well and allowed for some cool shots / gives him a different sort of vibe than a typical dark and gloomy villain's lair and I liked the contrast; he's civil until he's cruel, y'know?
I loved the Aaravos fadeout in Viren's eye and thought that was a really good way to (possibly) close out on his eye motif, but TDP always knocks it out of the park visually in particular in finales. The constant sunset colouring is probably some of the prettiest lighting/skies we've seen thus far though
Tumblr media
But the whole season was so pretty. I really just need to do another full rewatch to appreciate it properly lmao

idk what aesthetic is this but its mine
i love rpg maker 2000 sm T-T
"luna its old" THATS WHAT MAKES IT GOOD
but because its old it also has a few drawbacks
for one, its really hard to work with
♤ rpg maker 2000 uses a dated graphics api (directdraw) which microsoft gradually overtime stopped adding to their versions of directX, so now newer computers and graphics cards can't support it; so if you want the authentic look of rpgm2000 you have to have an older version of directX, or an older graphics card that supports it
thats why you might get directdraw error
my pc cant run my own games ;-; i have to downgrade my video card or use virtual machines LOL
i hate companies sm
♤ its also just hard to work with because its picky with the files it takes. for graphics it only allows for bmps and pngs, but they have to be in 8 bit color palette (256) or else it just wont show up;; for me i have to use a converter for all my images to work ;-;
the same goes for audio, it can be mp3, but if its not right it'll crash, so i stick to .wav or .midis
♤ rpgm2000 is also a little bit more limited in its capabilities, compared to the later versions with scripting and stuff, but i really like the simplicity. it means i have to be creative and make workarounds for the things i want to do;;
but other than that its really fun ^^ i found the assets that charon and other rpg maker games used and it looks super authentic
i even found the same music for games like ib, mad father, and dsp games I WAS LIKE YOOOO IS THAT OLD DOLL???? MAD FATHER MUSIC??? WITCHS HOUSE???
i feel so boss listening to midi files until my vlc player crashes
♤ and not to jump ahead but i was rlly curious how dsp made their maps and graphics so i decided to dissect wadanohara and was surprised;; they mostly used backgrounds with decoration tiles as opposed to making whole maps with tilesets; ngl thats smart.....
but ya rpg maker era soon
i wanted to have three games because two of them are satirical/parody and i wanted at least one serious authentic charon game and its pretty good so far :>>

Took a while for this guy to show up on my blog again. To recount: I work on FNF: Call of Charon which uses a different look for Charon but that's about it. I changed it up because i thought it would be cool lmfao
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
using some of the lore i actually caught up on a bit, the original pasta, some newer horror tropes i like and some of that dillweed sauce, this is my own actually kinda different take on charon.
in this take's draft (so it's not done so it'll probably be ass i'm not that big a writer lmfao), Charon and Damien aren't pokemon, they're just humans in the real world.
Charon dies (death not figured out yet), Damien is a sad sad boy, and he goes to play his most recently favourite game, Pokemon [GAME NAME HERE]. Except what the fuck what is that and why is it in the box?
Curious, he decides to examine the entity that's in his box. It's registered as a Kirlia, it's name is total static-y glitchy gibberish, it's colour palette is borked, it's a male, it's level 23, but it is... a good deal more powerful than most of the other Pokemon he had caught up to that point.
He decides to put him in his team (we'll call the Kirlia "Omen") because it seems like it would be a massive help. Whenever Omen is sent out, his cry is total nonsense but otherwise he's seemingly a regular Pokemon.
That would be until he evolves into "Gardevoir." His appearance even MORE jank, his stats somehow even MORE busted, and his cry is no longer even recognizable noise anymore.
That's when this guy's true nature is revealed, but not his name, the game keeps crashing before the whole thing can get out. 'Omen' is Damien's in-game guardian angel, but why? Who the fuck put this guy in his game?
Eventually 'Omen' can finally get his words out. It's Charon, Damien's long-lost dad, here literally in his video game just to be around his boy one last time.
He's in the video game! What? I cannot believe this.
This is unreal.
Didn't think that one through, though. Brother got his soul stuck as a glitchy Gardevoir in a non-descript Pokemon game. Damien's kept it around him at all times, though.
idk i'm either being nighttime delusional again or i actually popped off lmfao
the real Charon belongs to @the-crow-cryptids-domain

Adolf Hirémy-Hirschl's ''The Souls of Acheron'' (1898) is a captivating painting that delves into the realm of Greek mythology and explores themes of mortality and the afterlife.
The painting is inspired by Greek mythology, specifically the concept of Acheron, one of the rivers of the underworld. According to the myth, the Acheron served as a boundary between the world of the living and the realm of the dead, symbolising the transition from life to death. In antiquity, it was believed that the Acheron was the river which, according to ancient Greek mythology, Hermes would traverse, delivering the souls of the dead to Charon so they could reach the realm of Hades. Each soul passing through Charon's ferry had to give an obolus for the transport.
Hirémy-Hirschl creates a haunting and atmospheric scene, with mist-shrouded banks and ethereal figures. The desolate landscape and muted color palette evoke a sense of solemnity and introspection, setting the tone for contemplation of deeper existential questions.
The painting exudes a mystical allure, drawing viewers into its enigmatic world. The interplay of light and shadow, the ghostly figures, and the mist-shrouded landscape create an atmosphere of mystery and wonder. And serves as a reminder of the transcendent beauty that can be found amidst life's uncertainties and transitions.
''The Souls of Acheron'' elicits a range of emotions from its viewers, from solemn contemplation to existential dread. It invites viewers to confront their own mortality and to ponder the mysteries of life and death, while also evoking a sense of awe and wonder at the transcendent beauty of the scene.
The painting is rich in symbolism, with each element contributing to its thematic depth. The figures represent souls awaiting their fate in the afterlife, their draped garments and obscured faces adding to the sense of mystery. The barren landscape and gnarled trees suggest the desolation of the underworld and the uncertainty that lies in the journey ahead. The river Acheron serves as a potent symbol of passage and transformation. As the souls stand on its banks, they confront the mortality threshold, echoing humanity's journey towards the unknown.
Overall, ''The Souls of Acheron'' invites us to embark on a journey of introspection and contemplation, exploring themes of mortality, spirituality and the human experience in the face of life's inevitable transitions.

Examples: Joachim Patinir - Landscape with Charon Crossing the Styx, 1515–1524
Tumblr media
Joachim Patinir's painting, "Landscape with Charon Crossing the Styx," created between 1515 and 1524, is an outstanding example of early landscape art during the Northern Renaissance. The artist has divided the space vertically into three zones, one on either side and the third occupied by the broad river in the centre, on whose opaque and mirror-like surface Charon steers his boat. (MDP (Museo Del Prado), 2023). The artwork portrays the mythological figure who guides souls across the River Styx to the afterlife. I particularly like this masterpiece as the painting features a vast landscape with thoughtful attention to detail. Patinir’s approach to representing nature and capturing a serene atmosphere can be seen through the immersive landscape, the artistic choice of colours and the sense of isolation in nature. The vastness of the scenery provides a sense of tranquillity and serenity as one becomes part of this beyond-Earth journey. The artist sticks to an earthy colour palette, dominated by greens, browns, and greys, which imparts a peaceful and calming effect. Serenity is also being expressed through the isolated setting, without human presence, which expresses solitude and peaceful detachment from the outside world.
