Something something every time Charlie isn’t fighting to be the center of attention, he is always looking around to others to gauge their reactions and silently observing them all something something he is searching for connection, to fit in and be loved but he doesn’t know how to ask for love so instead he gains their attention by acting out in ways he knows they’ll notice and tries to pretend their attention and love are the same thing

#Charlie knows how to push people’s buttons just right to make them pay attention to him because he’s always observing them first; like he’s #not as reckless as we all think he is; he’s fairly smart and also #like Charlie seems so emotionally intelligent in the way he can gauge most peoples reactions from observing them and I think that’s why he #liked keating because keating didn’t act the way he expected and so it was amusing and enthralling to see someone he couldn’t clock #keating would do weird things and Charlie would watch in amusement and he would try to push Keatings buttons in the ways that would make #other teachers upset but they all just slid off Keatings back without him getting upset so Charlie had to try harder but keating seemed to #praise him so Charlie actually started getting what he was craving and so he tried to do something big for keating only to be confused when #keating didn’t like what he did; but then Keating still gave that unconditional support even tho Charlie didn’t get the right action and I #think that’s at the root of their relationship like you can’t have the keating and Charlie dynamic without Charlie being smart #charlie dalton #dps #dead poets society #dps fandom #dead poets fandom #like it’s so interesting to watch him in scenes not about him cause it feels like he is such a more dynamic and complex character when you #do cause we all say he doesn’t know how to be quiet but so often he is silently in the background watch and observing like the walking #scene is a good example and idk I just feel like Charlie is silent and observing more than we think he is we just don’t realize cause he is #so loud in his other moments we take those as him #and ignore him otherwise which feels like exactly what he wants because he wants to connect with people but he wants it to be on his terms #because he spent so long manipulating people’s perception of him that to be vulnerable or not in control makes him scared and he can have #this front he puts on criticized and made fun of because it’s not the real him but if the real him was ever rejected I don’t know if he #could handle it and I think he knows that; idk I just think we need to give Charlie more credit than we are giving him cause hes so complex

going further. franks child self was living in that one room with a strange weirdo boy he dreamed up but never really had. now his inner child isn’t alone anymore. he plays games with his real charlie in their terrible one room apartment. getting weird with it and being okay with being weird no matter what everyone on the outside might think. sharing a bed together to feel the comfort in being close to that

macs child self had charlie the whole time. inseparable. a package deal. the most genuine connection and comfort in both of their neglected tiny lives. not just because they were otherwise alone. decades later theyre not going anywhere. now their inner child rides bikes together they throw rocks at trains together they teach each other about the world just like they needed so desperately in old times

dennis’ child self never had charlie. not until highschool. but that was exactly when he experienced his csa. his inner child found charlie at the exact right moment. caught him when he fell. he got his child self back through charlie just as he lost feeling. and now what do the two of them do together? they go recreate memories and recapture lost youth with a mutual unspoken understanding of why

they all need charlie. relaxing into his genuine youthful energy lets them feel that way again.

to be completely honest, I don't want macdennis in this finale at all. i want den's plot to stay his own. i want the gang to understand just how much they rely on dennis, and how the pressure is finally wearing him down. dennis' inability to escape these high expectations from all of them. of the responsibility that he hates so much. this has been a part of his plotlines for years, and now he can't even take a day trip to the beach without the gang calling him for dumb shit. he's expected to be there to help the gang whenever they need him, but will they be there to help him?

So. mortified. think shameful reactions:#averted gaze; flushed cheeks; figeting under their stares; or perhaps the classic deer-in-headlights look as he freezes in shock #just as he feels everything crashing down around him. the others get ahold of themselves and share their reactions too #shock; confusion; endearment (charlie would 100% do a big AWW/want to touch it); reassurances galore when they see him retreat into his mind #they tell him it's normal (he's in hell; no longer a human but a demon; everyone looks odd by some standard)#they tell him it makes sense (he's a deer after all). they tell him his appearance is nothing to be ashamed of and that everyone is still #super intimidated and frightened by him ♡; that it doesnt change anything; that theyre sorry for whatever led him to believe otherwise

If I see one person saying shit like "Babe deserved it, he was always harsh with charlie” (no he wasn't, the only times he was harsh were the times he was manipulated by way's bitchass self and thought Charlie was going to betray him, makes sense he has spent majority of his life being betrayed, but Charlie never did and never will, every lie he says is FOR BABE, he unnecessary never lies, and everytime babe thought charlie lied against him, he got the reassurance that Charlie would never and with time Charlie has build this trust, he never gave up even when babe misunderstood 'cause he knows how much babe went through so he makes sure babe knows that his lie was to save him, it's always to save him and that relaxes babe, Charlie could become so much more than just a lover to babe because he took his time to build that safe space and trust between them even if the situation didn't let them) I would start swinging.
