Collision | Chapter 23
Word Count: 4.4K Warnings: medical procedures, death
Story Description: (Y/N) Uley is back home after being away for four years. Her life is at its first standstill and she is taking this time to find out who she is without school. But she never thought that coming back to the reservation would turn her whole life around. In the midst of secrets and mystery, a man crashes into (Y/N)’s and her life will never be the same.
A/N: goodness me, I know it's been forever since I've updated anything. I've been in a bit of a mental rut and nothing was coming to me, but I'm finishing up a couple of updates so I'll definitely be publishing a few things this week. Also, please don't hate me for updating the less loved Twilight fic. Speak is coming soon 🫣🫣 also also, new character 👀👀

(Y/N) knew it had been too quiet for too long.
Well, not entirely quiet.
After the encounter with Laurent in the woods, his friend Victoria had shown up. The vampire had gone through hitchhikers in Forks like it was an all-you-can-eat buffet. It had the sheriff station in Forks and La Push on high alert. There were too many bodies and not enough explanations—at least none that could be known by the public.
The pack had already doubled their efforts during their patrols, doing all in their power to run the redhead out of their land while protecting the Swan duo in theirs. They had lost sleep and had been overworked for weeks. The vampire had bested them in every move, taunting the pack with her swift and calculated moves.
But the important thing was that Bella was safe, and she seemed to be getting better. At least for the past couple of weeks, she had been better. That’s what (Y/N) thought until she got a call one early March morning.
“What do you mean Bella knows about you?” (Y/N) said through gritted teeth. “And it happened a week ago? Why am I just finding out? I literally talked to her before spring break started.”
“It seems Jacob hinted to the stories she used to hear when she was a kid,” Sam sighed. “Gotta give it to the kid. He really found a workaround the rules. I was gonna tell you as soon as it happened, but you had your exams and everything, so no one wanted to worry you with it.”
“How did she take it? Is everyone okay?”
“Well, Jake and Paul had a little row because Bella blamed us for Jacob keeping his distance from her,” her brother chuckled. “And, well, Paul got a bit mouthy, and Bella ended up slapping him—at least, attempting to—which cause him to get angry and phase. Subsequently Jacob phased to protect her. They’re both fine now and Bella knows everything.”
“And no rules were broken I suppose,” (Y/N) sighed. “But Bella now knows about wolves and vampires and somehow is back in the center of all supernatural danger. Isn’t this all just great?”
“This is gonna sound harsh, but I prefer her being hunted than you, (Y/N),” Sam admitted. “I know we can protect you in our land, but this one is ruthless and relentless. I would hate for her to have your scent.”
“Well, she doesn’t, thankfully,” she said. “Don’t think she even had my description since you killed her friend. But I thought we were gonna be more proactive when sharing information now.”
“I know, but I wanted you to at least pass that test first,” he confessed. “Look at you now, on your first week as a student doctor.”
“I still can’t believe it’s happening,” (Y/N) exclaimed. “I don’t know what spirits are looking out for me, but it’s almost unbelievable that I’ve been able to do any of this. It takes months for Step 1 to be revised and for college credits to go through. But I’m knocking on wood that these miracles keep happening like this. Might just become the youngest doctor in Washington.”
“If there’s anyone who could do it, it had to be my genius sister.”
“Thanks for the flattery, it does me well in the mornings,” she chuckled. “But I do have to get into work soon. So, thank you for this new information. I will call Bella and see how she’s doing after my shift.”
“Alright, sounds good, Dr. Uley.”
“I like how that sounds,” she beamed. “I’ll see you after work. Bye, Sam.”
“Bye, Dr. Uley.”
When (Y/N) entered the hospital that morning, she believed it would be another routine day. A couple of flu cases, possibly some broken bones in the ER, maybe even a more pressing case. But she had not expected to see Harry Clearwater coming through the doors of the emergency room, Sue trailing close behind.
“(Y/N), I’m gonna need you on this one,” Dr. Mollins, the ER attending, called. “Let’s move the patient to Trauma 1. Talk to me.”
“We’ve got a man in his mid to late 50s showing signs of a severe myocardial infarction,” the paramedic said as he pushed the gurney into the building. “He went into cardiac arrest during transport, but we were able to regain sinus rhythm. He was administered two milligrams of epi.”
(Y/N) felt stuck in her spot, her limbs frozen as the familiar faces moved past her. She had seen her fair share of emergencies during her time at the hospital and her past internships. But seeing someone that she knew completely defenseless and unconscious shot ice through her veins.
“Dr. Uley!” Mollins called her again. “I need you here, now!”
“Yes, o-of course,” the young woman stammered as she felt her brain finally jumpstart. She sent Sue an apologetic smile as she walked through the curtain that separated Harry’s room from the rest of the beds. “I’m here.”
As soon as she slid the curtain behind her, (Y/N), Eden Mollins, and a nurse started to examine Harry. His blood was extracted, his pulse and his blood pressure were taken, his lungs were listened to, and his temperature was taken. All the while, the man remained unconscious, and (Y/N) prayed to whatever was out there that he at least opened his eyes.
Every second that passed, the girl’s breath hitched in her throat. All she could do was think back at the summers she would spend in the Clearwaters home, running around with Seth and Leah while Harry watched over them, how he and Billy would gather all the kids around the bonfire to tell them stories about the ancestors, how he watched over her and Sam when her father had decided to disappear from their lives.
“I wanna run an EKG and an Echo on the patient,” Eden instructed. “And call in a CT and a chest MRI. The patient is still unconscious, so…”
“Harry,” (Y/N) choked out. “His name is Harry.”
“Excuse me?”
“The patient’s name is Harry,” she restated. “Harry Clearwater.”
“Do you know the pa… Mr. Clearwater, Uley?”
“Yes, I do.”
“You have to tell me right now if that will impair your treatment of the patient today, Uley,” the doctor said. “I cannot have you freeze like you did.”
“Good,” he nodded. “He seems stable for now, so go out there and get some background from the wife. Can you do that?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Alright then.”
The doctor slid the curtains open to reveal a teary-eyed Sue. Once he was gone, (Y/N) allowed herself to throw her arms around the woman, wrapping her in a tight, warm hug as she whispered how sorry she was. “What happened, Sue?” she whispered. “What caused this? He seemed fine last week.”
“Oh gods, (Y/N), it was just too much for him,” the woman sniffled. “It was Leah. She phased.”
“W-what? Leah shifted into a wolf? How is that possible?”
“That’s not all. The second Harry was down, Seth phased too,” she added. “He said only boys turned into wolves, (Y/N). How could it be that Leah is one too?”
“I could not tell you, Sue,” (Y/N) breathed. “This is just as new to me as it is to you. But what could have triggered the change in Leah? I don’t get it. Thought there were normally signs.”
“Well, she had been acting out a lot recently, and her body started changing dramatically. I thought she was just being a normal moody teenager and that maybe she was going through a second puberty,” Sue sighed. “But this morning, we were arguing about how horrible her mood swings had been, and she just exploded. One second, my daughter was standing before us. And the next, there was a grey wolf breaking through our couch. The shock sent Harry down. His heart just couldn’t take it—you know he’s always had trouble with it. Then, Seth—poor thing—seeing his father go down got so anxious that he shifted too. I tried calling Sam after I called 911, but Emily told me he was out with his wolves chasing that leech out of the forest. “It was all so sudden, (Y/N),” the woman cried, taking (Y/N)’s offered hand. “She ran out the door with Seth behind and I couldn’t stop them. I had to get Harry to the hospital.”
“Oh, Sue, that’s just horrible,” the girl said. “I can’t believe that happened.”
“Tell me, (Y/N). Is it bad? Is Harry gonna be okay?”
(Y/N) took in a steadying breath as she braced herself to tell one of the people who had essentially raised her that her husband was not showing good signs. How could she speak those words when she didn’t want to believe them herself? “Look, Sue, I can’t lie to you. Things are not looking good,” she explained. “With his age, his pre-existing condition, and the severity of this episode, it’s still too early to tell. We need him to wake up in order to assess the situation fully. If not…”
“I know,” Sue interjected. “I just don’t know what I would do without him.”
“Okay, let’s not go there just yet, Sue,” (Y/N) stammered. “Why don’t you call someone to be with you while we run labs? I wouldn’t want you to be alone right now.”
“Don’t worry about me, (Y/N),” she softly smiled. “I already called Charlie and Billy. They’re on their way here already.”
“Good. I’m gonna go check on his labs. If you need anything or need me here, just let one of the nurses know and they’ll page me right back.”
“That’s alright, (Y/N). I know you’re busy.”
When she left the room, (Y/N) finally felt like she could breathe. But there was a nagging in the deepest corners of her head that was telling her that something bad was going to go down. Yet, she wanted to listen to the rational side of her brain. Harry was in the best place to receive treatment if another episode were to happen. She had to trust that they would be able to help him. She simply had to.
The girl busied herself with other patients’ labs and filing anything that kept her as far away from Harry’s results as possible. She couldn’t face another loss so quickly. Not yet. She wasn’t sure if her heart could take it.
During her short life, (Y/N) had faced too many grievances that had forced her to grow up too quickly. Her father had walked out of her life when she was too young, and she needed him the most, forcing her mother to spend too much time at work and too little time at home. Most of the time, it was only Sam and her at home dealing with their schoolwork and food. Then, right as they were learning how to be the dynamic duo, she was accepted at St. Agustine Prep, and she had to learn how to be by herself for the better part of four years. After, she met the man she thought would be her future, and he ripped her heart apart like it hadn’t been fragile to begin with. Sadness was simply a part of (Y/N)’s existence, but she didn’t think there was more she could take.
(Y/N) prayed quietly. She prayed harder than she ever had before in her life. She didn’t know to what exactly, but she prayed.
And yet, the universe rarely played things out in the way she wanted.
The young woman was on her way to greet Billy Black and Charlie Swan when a loud ringing alarm called her attention. It was the soundtrack of despair, the theme song of disappointment, and the last thing (Y/N) wanted to hear. Her legs started moving before she could think twice, setting off for Harry’s room. There, the flatlining sound filled her ears, mixed with Sue’s pleas for help as nurses pulled her aside to allow the doctors to work.
“The patient’s coding, Uley,” Eden called out. “Start compressions. This is your call.”
(Y/N) was already on Harry before Mollins had finished his sentence. Her full attention was on her counts, pressing on his chest like she had been taught to do. One, two, three, four, all the way to thirty before the nurse administered air pumps. Then again, and again.
“Push one milligram of epi,” (Y/N) called out, not stopping her compressions for another three minutes. “Check rhythm.”
As she removed her hands, the screen showed a red line once more, and that pesky sound filled the room again. “Still asystole,” Eden said. “Push another milligram and clear for defib.”
(Y/N) continued her work as sweat formed on her forehead. She pushed into the man’s chest at a steady pace, even when she felt her limbs wanted to give out. Her legs trembled under her, and her heart hammered loudly against her chest, but she couldn’t stop. Even after two defibrillations that yielded no results, the girl kept administering compressions.
“Uley, it’s time to call it,” Mollins whispered softly at the young doctor. “It’s been over thirty minutes.”
“No!” (Y/N) exclaimed. Beads of sweat were falling down her face and mixing with her tears, but she couldn’t bring herself to stop. Not for Harry. “I’ve gotta keep going!”
“(Y/N),” Eden called her, taking hold of her wrists and forcing her gaze to break from the man. “It’s time to call it.”
“I can’t,” she trembled as she fell onto the doctor. “He can’t…”
But the consistent sound of a flatline killed her words. That was it. Her first patient was gone, and it was someone she had looked up to like a father. Despite all of her efforts, he was gone, and there was nothing else she could do about it.
“Time of death: 1542,” the doctor called to the nurse before turning back to the crumbling girl. “You did everything you could, (Y/N). You did everything right.”
“But he’s gone,” she cried. “He’s gone, and I could’ve done more.”
“No. There was nothing at all that you could have done,” Eden said. "Unfortunately, this is part of the job. We can’t save them all, (Y/N), but you absolutely did everything you could have.”
“I know I can’t save them all, but I needed to save him.”
“Tell you what, I’m gonna break the news to the family right now,” the young man said. “You’re gonna take a second to compose yourself before you go out there, and I want you to take the rest of the day off to rest.”
“I shouldn’t…”
“I know that it’s unconventional, and most doctors would have said that you needed to get used to it,” he added. “But you need this, (Y/N). This case is too personal, and I know it’s gonna take a toll on you.”
“Okay,” she whimpered. “Thank you, Dr. Mollins.”
“I already told you, (Y/N). When we’re off a case, it’s Eden.”
The moment Eden left the room, the silence that filled it was worse than the beeping and the alarms. It was eerie and loaded, and it made (Y/N) feel like it would swallow her at any moment.
Yet, the only other presence there was Harry. His face was covered with a white sheet, shielding his body from everyone. And for that, she was thankful. (Y/N) couldn’t look at his face. She knew her mind would trick her into thinking that he was merely sleeping and that at any moment, he would wake up and say the most unfunny joke she had heard of, but she would have laughed anyway because it would have meant that he was alive.
“I’m so sorry, Harry,” she whispered to him. “I tried so hard. I hope you know that.”
“He does, honey.” Sue’s voice startled her. Tears stained the woman’s face, but her desperation was gone. She wrapped her arms around the younger girl, smoothing down her hair in a comforting manner. “He knows how hard you fought for him, (Y/N). It was just his time.”
“He was fine just last week,” she sobbed. “I can’t believe he’s just gone now.”
“As long as he is in our memories, he will never truly be gone,” the woman smiled sadly. “But he is with our spirits now, reunited with his ancestors.”
“Harry will never be forgotten that I can promise you, Sue.”
“He really loved you, (Y/N),” Sue mentioned. “He was always so amazed by everything that you were doing. He loved to boast about how far he knew you’d go to literally anyone who would listen. Deep down, he wanted Leah and Sam to work out so we’d be officially family.”
“I’m really gonna miss him, Sue. I wish I had spent more time with him these last few years. And now…”
“Oh, honey, no. Don’t do that,” the woman comforted. “Harry knew how busy you are, how busy you’ve always been. He was just so happy to know you were doing something you loved.”
“May his soul rest easy now,” the girl whimpered before placing a hand on Harry’s. “Until we meet again, Harry.”
(Y/N) excused herself from the room, allowing Sue to have one last moment with Harry. Outside, she acknowledged Charlie and Billy, giving them a sad smile before she disappeared into the doctor’s locker rooms. She couldn’t face another person who was close to Harry, not when she could still feel the beat of his heart under her hands.
Inside the locker room, she allowed herself to break down. She crumpled to the floor, clutching at her chest as every emotion came barreling down on her. There was pain and turmoil, anger and disappointment. But most of all, it was the harrowing sadness that she had been carrying since she was a little girl that draped itself over her, swallowing her completely and dragging her into the darkness.
Until a voice pulled her out. “Hey, hey, Uley,” Eden called as he kneeled in front of her. “Come on, you need to breathe. Take a deep breath.”
“I-I-I c-can’t,” she stammered. Her breath got trapped in her chest, tightening her lungs and making them burn for oxygen.
“Yes, you can. Come on,” he encouraged. “Match my breaths, okay? Come on, in and out.”
Eden took deep breaths, exhaling after holding them for five seconds. His hands found hers, forcing her gaze to snap to his. He continued the breathing exercises until she was finally able to match his pace. Her body stopped shaking, and feeling started returning to her limbs as her sobs quieted down. As weakness took over her, (Y/N) crashed onto Eden’s chest, allowing him to wrap her in a warm and comforting hug.
It was an unexpected embrace that she was more than thankful for. Eden had come to the hospital three months after Carlisle had left to fill the hole left in the emergency department. When (Y/N) had entered and started her clinical rotations, he had been tasked with being her teacher in emergency medicine.
He had not taken to her quickly. From her work as a medical assistant, he had said she was far too young and too inexperienced to be in the hospital. Though he had eaten his words in a short amount of time, he still seemed to hold some sort of disdain for her. At least, that’s what she had thought until that very moment.
“Hey, there you go,” he cooed. “Just keep breathing, okay?”
“Gods,” (Y/N) croaked out. “I’m sorry. I know I should be okay with death, but this…”
“You don’t have to apologize, (Y/N). Never apologize for the emotions you’re feeling,” Eden reassured. “Especially not after losing someone close to you. That is something no one could ever fault you for.”
“Why are you being so nice to me all of a sudden?” the girl blurted. “It’s not that I don’t appreciate it, but it’s not a secret that you don’t really like me.”
“Why would you think that?” she asked, his tone hinting at being slightly offended. “I don’t think I’ve given any indication of that.”
“Come on, Eden. You’re always giving me dirty looks and have gotten mad at me at any turn this whole week. It’s not hard to decipher that you don’t really enjoy my presence at the hospital.”
“Oh god, no. That has nothing to do with you—at least not directly,” he quickly assured. "I think you’re a brilliant doctor, and I’m honestly so impressed that you’re here at your age. My attitude has more to do with the fact that my parents saw you working here a week after I finally got here, and they were on me because I could have been like you.”
“What, a terrified nineteen-year-old playing at being a doctor?”
“Christ, I didn’t think you’d heard that,” he grimaced. “That came from a really childish place. It’s just that my parents have always pushed me to be the best, much to my detriment. I had the ability to jump a few grades or do dual enrollment like you did, but I wanted the whole high school experience. So, even if I graduated at sixteen and finished my bachelor's in three years, I could have always done better. So, here I am at twenty-five and already an attending, but in comes a nineteen-year-old med student who somehow was able to skip two whole years of med school and had an almost perfect Step 1 score, and suddenly my achievements aren’t good enough anymore. I’m sorry I ever said that. I mean, I’m a grown-ass man caring what my parents think.”
“Don’t worry,” she smiled softly. “It just made me want to prove myself even more. I’m kind of used to people underestimating me.”
“Yeah, I quickly learned I shouldn’t have,” he chuckled. “You’re a great doctor, (Y/N), and a great person.”
“Well, thank you,” she beamed. "It honestly means a lot coming from you, especially now.”
“I can promise that was the first and last time I ever underestimate you,” Eden smiled brightly. “Now, you should go home. Your brother just came back.”
“Came back?”
“He arrived when you were down at the CT scan, but he left for an emergency,” the man responded. “He just came back a minute after you left the room.”
At the word emergency, (Y/N) jumped to her feet and ran toward the emergency room, new tears forming in the corners of her eyes. It was a word that held too much weight even before the entire picture was shown. After that morning, the girl could only expect the worst.
Her limbs carried her automatically, her brain not registering where she was going until she crashed into someone. “Is someone else hurt?” she managed to croak out. “Tell me what happened, Sam.”
“Hey, breathe, (Y/N),” her brother instructed as he wrapped his arms tightly around her. “No one’s hurt. Okay? It was just an accident.”
“That still doesn’t make things clearer. What accident?”
“Bella sort of jumped or slipped off a high cliff while we were running Victoria all the way up to the Canadian border,” he said. “I had been here for no more than ten minutes when Jared called me and said that Jake had gotten there just in time. She’s fine now. A bit shaken up and cold, but she’s at Billy’s house resting. You don’t have to worry, (Y/N). It’s been handled.”
“So, she almost drowned, and all she’s doing is sleeping it off?” (Y/N) exclaimed. “Why didn’t you bring her here? She needs to be checked out!”
“(Y/N), I need you to calm down, okay? She chose not to come, and you shouldn’t be worrying about this. You should be going home and resting, too.”
“But she’s…”
“You’re in no headspace to worry about other people, Bean,” Sam cooed as he smoothed down his sister’s hair. “Go home, kid. Rest up. We’ve got things from here.”
“But…”
“Go home, (Y/N),” Sue interjected, a kind smile softly stretching her face. “All that’s left here is legal mumbo jumbo. You’ve done everything you possibly can.”
“I just feel like I need to help in some way. Either here or with Bella. I just…”
“You can’t help anyone if you don’t take care of yourself, Bean,” her brother interrupted. “I promise we’ve got everything handled here, kid.”
After much insistence and a lot of back-and-forth, (Y/N) finally agreed to take her afternoon off and head back home. But loneliness was quick to follow as soon as she was by herself. It sank its claws into her throat and started a never-ending stream of tears that stained her cheeks. Helplessness gripped her chest, nagging at her mind and reminding her of all the things she couldn’t do.
Before she knew it, the afternoon had slowly shifted into night, and (Y/N)’s eyes had fluttered shut in the hospital parking lot. Now, with less weight in her heart and a tight knot in her neck, she sputtered her truck to life and started her trip back home, where she would most likely repeat the same process all over again.
When she got there, the house was eerily quiet, and the cold seeped into her bones as though winter was still scratching its way to the surface. But she knew why it felt that way, and she knew it would be like that for a long time.
Other than Sue, (Y/N) couldn’t get Seth and Leah out of her head. Not only had they been sprung into the supernatural world in such a dramatic way, but they had also lost their father and had not been able to say goodbye. She wondered if they were scared or angry, if a part of them felt guilty. She knew she did, and she couldn’t imagine how heavy it had to weigh on their own hearts and minds.
She was typing their house number when her house phone suddenly rang in her hand, startling her. “Hello?” she said through the phone.
“(Y/N), hi, it’s uh, Bella,” the Swan girl stammered in her usual fashion. “I heard about… I’m so sorry.”
“Thanks, Bella,” she smiled sadly, swallowing down the knot that threatened to close her throat. “Are you okay? Sam told me what happened this morning.”
“Yeah, I’m okay. It was just a horrible accident,” Bella answered quickly. “But I’m fine now. I was actually calling about something else.”
“Oh. Uh, what is it?”
“Do you think you could come over right after the funeral?”
“To your house?” (Y/N) questioned. “Why?”
“I think there’s someone you should see.”

DECEMBER PROMPTS 🧊 — 5. SETH CLEARWATER
A/N: honestly did not expect the Seth Stan’s to show out the way you guys did on that poll?!! Caught me off guard for sure! since back then I never found my Seth lovers anywhere but this is a good thing! All I imagine is warm fuzzies looking at not only Seth but Boo as well so you can definitely expect this to be some fluff! Also have a safe and thrilling new year, hope the best is coming for us all 💚
PROMPTS ARE FROM HERE & HERE + I’m using: 25.) Home for the holidays (“thought you couldn’t make it!”, running hug) + DIALOGUES — 35.) “Did you make me a tinsel crown?”
WARNINGS: as sweet as can be + probably too short for any of our likings! & Seth and reader are (aged up) about 25 :) + a quick write—if you couldn’t tell 😬
<- read my previous December anthology prompt here.
❅✧˖°・:*:。・:*:・゚.𖥔 ݁ ˖ ❅✧˖°・:*:。・:*:・゚.𖥔 ݁ ˖ ❅✧˖°・:
you’re at your parents, it’s early (to you) around ten am and you’re outside in the backyard. It’s the night after the annual Christmas party your parents threw, you crashed here at their residence that they’ve owned for around three years now and it still didn’t quite feel like home. You could say California never did, it didn’t give you the feeling of sunny superstar dreams and wonder—it turned out to be just another mile you can simply tick off from your odometer.
it’s funny how you never had the desire to be in this state in the first place and here you are living here for the past six months. You’ve been a few places since La Push,(Oregon, Minnesota, Maine, and finally residing in British Columbia prior) spending a good twenty years there before deciding to look elsewhere. You left before your family did and it wasn’t ever a competition but they can honestly say you’re the influence that pushed them to see more.
Everything of course was not all fun and games outside of the world you once knew but you wouldn’t completely rewind and start over. Some things needed to be done to figure out where you truly had to be. Which was your answer for it all but that came with tears you couldn’t hold back as you finished off a cupcake.
The end of the year was so near and yes you were thankful to be closer to your family again and the sprinkle of success this year brought to your table but there always seemed to be something still missing that you couldn’t shake. You’ve grown accustomed to everlasting change in your life—I mean the supernatural world can get pretty wild no matter where you went but you knew how to get adjusted after some time. Yet you couldn’t explain the puffiness on your face to yourself although those deemed it as good sleep. Waking up in tears was not what you expected the day after spreading joy but the cool plunge from the winter air soothed you just fine.
Wrapped in a blanket, staring out into the pale yellow sun behind the haze of blue, you’re chewing the last of the soft cupcake, lost in your own feelings that you don’t even register your name being called. Standing in the middle of the slightly messy backyard, you take your time glancing over your shoulder at the mention of your name and feel your breathing hitch.
Behind your father is a face that you’re all too familiar with. Then it all starts to make sense as a once cautious glance turns into a famous grin that always meets his dark eyes. You’re supposed to be cleaning up the backyard but instead you’re running full speed into the tender arms of a person dear to your heart.
Seth Clearwater.
Your eldest friend who you had the best time getting in touch with over the last year. How ironic is it that he’s been living in California all these years? Information that your parents left out although your dad talked to Charlie and Sue often. Perhaps that was their way of protecting your heart? That Seth was once upon a time a brushed off subject that most refrained from bringing him up. He was disappointed that you were leaving five years ago and you tried your hardest for him to go along with you but Seth wasn’t ready to leave La Push behind for good like you were.
You were both on opposite ends. You finished community college and you were accepted into another school in a different state but those two years felt like enough for you. You had savings for traveling and that’s what you did, to find a better sense of yourself outside of what you’ve always known.
Unfortunately that included Seth.
You tried to keep up with postcards, phone calls, emails, and texts but that just became a reminder that life went on without each other in it. Something you both had to accept although the sadness was hard to beat until you both learned to stop thinking as much.
Perhaps you never really did.
“Thought you couldn’t make it!” Your head is buried into his shoulder as you squeeze him tightly.
You haven’t seen each other since you were both twenty, reconnecting through social media after Seth decided to hop back on and it was shocking to hear that he and Leah were both making an attendance to your parents home, flying and driving in that Friday. The dejection was evident on your face when Leah was at the door alone and she made blunt attempts (in Leah fashion) to soothe over the sting. She was very vague and so was Sue—which was not like her now looking back on it.
Seth was expecting a text from you, questioning about his whereabouts but was met with radio silence which said enough. He was quick to question everyone else in the family group chat but sue was more reassuring than his step-dad Charlie and big sister were.
He chuckles as he wraps an arm around you, “Fooled ya, didn’t I? There’s no way I’d bail out completely. Just got wrapped up in some last minute things on the holidays, which sucked but I’m here now to see you.”
Lifting your head you stare up at Seth, scanning over his features which were still there, just defined as he stood in his adulthood, with his hair much longer and free on his terms.
“I’m glad.” You offer a smile, which felt tight against your slightly swollen face, “and also can’t believe it! When Leah told me something came up, I actually wanted to head back home.”
“Aw well…I’m glad you didn’t.” Seth informs, “I hear you have a strange roommate according to your dad.”
You glance at the space where your dad once stood and scoff. “Melvin just…loves his reptiles. He works at a pet store and I told him that as long as he has a good watch on them and I don’t get bit by any of them to the point I’m unalived then…it’s cool with me.”
Seth raises his brows, “Wow…I’m impressed.”
“What? Why?”
“If I remember correctly you were afraid of the simplest of things like: crickets, dragonflies, and butterflies. Now you’re telling me you live with reptiles?” Seth quizzes with a smirk.
You shrug, “you can’t hold the past against me! I’m experienced such growth and we have time talk about everything right?”
Seth briefly cups your cheek, before slipping it to rest against your blanket covered shoulder, “as much time as we need.”
One thing about Seth Clearwater, he’s always been sincere and that hasn’t changed in the last five years.
“I have something for you,” you say disappearing into the house, ignoring the stares from your dads’ to grab the item before heading out back once more, “here we are.”
Seth lowers his head a bit as you get the item settled and he peeks up with a grin, “Did you make me a tinsel crown?”
“You may have missed out on the shenanigans last night but I saved you one just in case,” you tell as Seth models the shiny crown in the backyard while you clap in approval.
Seth sighs, “thanks for thinking of me…care to take a stroll and tell me everything?”
He holds his hand out, awaiting for your grasp and you don’t hesitate because you know that Seth will share the same as you make laps in the backyard together. Arm now looped with his, head resting against his shoulder as you take turns telling each other just how much you missed being side by side.
The looks of longing passed between the two of you, which answers the questions the final month of the year brings: you’ll always be the best part of each others lives no matter what the distance may bring.
Seth’s warmth and compassion reminds you that, the blues—you didn’t realize that you even had—don’t deserve a place here.
He does.

20. WE WILL FIGHT
WHY WAS FATE SO CRUEL? WHY WOULD Alice do something like this? To us? To everyone? She had Bella and I travel all the way to Seattle to get false documents, for Jacob, Renesmee, and myself? It seemed like Renesmee would have a future, but Bella and Edward wouldn't be a part of it. I think Bella might have had that grim idea too, that dreadful foresight of a life where she wouldn't see her daughter grow up, where she wouldn't be there to protect and love her. The mere thought of it sent chills down my spine. Kind of like my mother who died at childbirth, never seeing me grow up and seeing the abuse Gavin and Dina put me through, not meeting Ayla and seeing the world I was in now.
But Alice couldn't see shapeshifters or hybrids, so how could she see me being the potential lone survivor? Did she even see me? Or maybe Seth's theory about an invisible wall between vampires and werewolves was right. What exactly did she see that would make her do this? The vision of the Volturi winning and all of us dead? The prospect of our complete annihilation? I dreaded to think about it. My mind was a tumultuous sea of fear and uncertainty, each wave crashing down with more force than the last, drowning my thoughts in despair.
As we stepped out of the building, the rain had ceased its relentless downpour. The air was thick with the scent of wet earth and foliage, and the forest seemed to hold its breath. But as the droplets dripped from the leaves and branches, a realization hit me like a bolt of lightning. Renesmee had a future, but it would be Jacob and I - not her parents - protecting her if a conflict arose. The weight of this responsibility bore down on me, a crushing burden that I wasn't sure I could bear. If it happened, that is. If the Volturi came, if the unthinkable occurred.
We picked them up from Charlie's, his eyes filled with unspoken questions and fears. He knew something was wrong, though he couldn't grasp the full extent of our peril. The drive back to the Cullens was silent, each of us lost in our thoughts. The road ahead seemed to stretch endlessly, a dark and uncertain path leading us to an unknown future. I pitied for Bella and Edward, for the family we might lose, and for the innocent child whose life hung in the balance.
As we pulled into the meadow, the house appeared ordinary from the outside. But the commotion inside was anything but. Low voices growled and murmured, creating an intense argument. I could distinguish Gabriel's and Carlisle's voices, along with Amun's, among the others.
Edward parked in front of the house instead of the garage, and Bella exchanged a wary glance with me. Jacob's demeanour shifted, his face turning serious and cautious. Something had happened, but what?
"Alistair is gone," Edward murmured.
"What do you mean he's gone?" I exclaimed, darting up the steps.
As I stepped into the front room, the tension was palpable. The air was thick with the scent of fear and anger, and I could feel my heart racing in my chest. The walls were lined with a ring of spectators, every vampire who had joined us, except for Alistair and the four involved in the quarrel. Helena, Esme, Kebi, and Tia were the closest to the four vampires in the center; in the middle of the room, Amun was hissing at Gabriel, Carlisle, and Benjamin.
Edward's jaw tightened, and he moved quickly to Esme's side, his eyes never leaving the scene unfolding before us. I raced to Ingram and he was relieved to see me again.
"What's going on?" I whispered to him.
"A lot of things," he whispered back his answer.
"Amun, if you want to go, no one is forcing you to stay," Carlisle said calmly, his voice cutting through the tension like a knife.
"You're stealing half my coven, Carlisle!" Amun shrieked, his eyes blazing with fury as he stabbed one finger at Benjamin. "Is that why you called me here? To steal from me?"
"He would never do that," Gabriel said, his voice firm and unwavering. Amun snarled at him, his eyes flashing with anger.
Carlisle sighed, and Benjamin rolled his eyes, clearly exasperated by the whole situation.
"Yes, Carlisle picked a fight with the Volturi, endangered his whole family, just to lure me here to my death," Benjamin said sarcastically, his voice dripping with disdain. "Be reasonable, Amun. I'm committed to do the right thing here—I'm not joining any other coven. You can do whatever you want, of course, as Carlisle has pointed out."
"This won't end well," Amun growled, his eyes darting around the room as if searching for an escape.
"Think of who you're calling sane," I heard Tia murmuring in a quiet aside, her voice barely audible above the rising tension.
"We're all going to be slaughtered!" Amun cried, his voice rising to a fever pitch.
"It's not going to come to a fight," Carlisle said in a firm voice, his eyes locked on Amun's.
"You say!" Amun spat, his eyes blazing with fury.
"If it does, you can always switch sides, Amun," Gabriel commented, his voice calm and measured. "I'm sure the Volturi will appreciate your help."
Amun sneered at him, his eyes flashing with anger. "Perhaps that is the answer," he said, his voice dripping with venom.
Carlisle's answer was soft and sincere. "I wouldn't hold that against you, Amun. We have been friends for a long time, but I would never ask you to die for me."
Amun's voice was more controlled, too. "But you're taking my Benjamin down with you."
Carlisle put his hand on Amun's shoulder; Amun shook it off.
"I'll stay, Carlisle, but it might be to your detriment. I will join them if that's the road to survival. You're all fools to think that you can defy the Volturi."
He scowled, then sighed, glanced behind them - and added in an exasperated tone, "I will witness that the child has grown. That's nothing but the truth. Anyone would see that."
"That's all we've ever asked."
Amun grimaced, "But not all that you are getting, it seems." He turned on Benjamin. "I gave you life. You're wasting it."
Benjamin's face looked colder than I'd ever seen it; the expression contrasted oddly with his boyish features. "It's a pity you couldn't replace my will with your own in the process; perhaps then you would have been satisfied with me."
Amun's eyes narrowed. He gestured abruptly to Kebi, and they stalked past us out the front door.
"He's not leaving," Edward said quietly to Bella. "But he'll be keeping his distance even more from now on. He wasn't bluffing when he spoke of joining the Volturi."
"Why did Alistair go?" Bella whispered.
That was what I wanted to know too. I knew he didn't want to be there and was an extreme introvert, but I still wanted to know the reason why. With that, I decided to listen to their conversation. Then, I heard Edward answering.
"No one can be positive; he didn't leave a note. From his mutters, it's been clear that he thinks a fight is inevitable. Despite his demeanour, he actually does care too much for Carlisle to stand with the Volturi. I suppose he decided the danger was too much."
Though our conversation was clearly just between the two of them, everyone could hear it. Eleazar answered Edward's comment like it had been meant for all.
"From the sound of his mumblings, it was a bit more than that. We haven't spoken much of the Volturi agenda, but Alistair worried that no matter how decisively we can prove your innocence, the Volturi will not listen. He thinks they will find an excuse to achieve their goals here."
"What are you saying?" I asked, joining in.
"When Aro wants someone from a coven," Eleazar began to answer. "It's never long before evidence turns up proving that coven committed some crime."
"You're saying that he has done this before?" I questioned, sounding surprised.
"It happens so rarely, I never realized it was a pattern."
"Apparently he always pardons one person whose thoughts he claims are repentant," Carlisle added.
"This person always has an ability," Eleazar continued. "And they're always given a place with the Guard."
"This is all about Alice," Edward suddenly said as if he had figure everything out. "He has no one like her."
"Which is why she left," Bella added.
"But why does he need witnesses?" I heard Emmett asking them.
"To spread the word that justice has been served," Gabriel replied sadly and then whispered. "After he slaughters an entire coven."
The vampires glanced uneasily at one another and I felt Ingram's grip on my waist tightened. I couldn't get the images of the meeting J. Jenks out of my head and the plan for fake documents for Jacob, Renesmee and myself. I caught a glimpse at Joseph and I think he figured it out, thanks to his telepathy. His face was a mixed of sadness and understanding. He got an idea what happened with Bella and me today.
And the idea that the Volturi would manipulate their own sacrosanct law for gain was not a popular idea. Only the Romanians were composed, their small half-smiles ironic. They seemed amused at how the others wanted to think well of their ancient enemies.
"I do so hope Alistair was right about this," Stefan murmured to Vladimir. "No matter the outcome, word will spread. It's time our world saw the Volturi for what they've become. They'll never fall if everyone believes this nonsense about them protecting our way of life."
"At least when we ruled, we were honest about what we were," Vladimir replied.
Stefan nodded. "We never put on white hats and called ourselves saints."
"I'm thinking the time has come to fight," Vladimir said. "How can you imagine we'll ever find a better force to stand with? Another chance this good?"
"Nothing is impossible. Maybe someday—"
"We've been waiting for fifteen hundred years, Stefan. And they've only gotten stronger with the years." Vladimir paused and looked at Gabriel again. He showed no surprise when he saw that Gabriel was watching him, too. "If the Volturi win this conflict, they will leave with more power than they came with. With every conquest they add to their strengths. Think of what that newborn alone could give them"—he jerked his chin toward Bella - "she is barely discovering her gifts. And the earth-mover." Vladimir nodded toward Benjamin, who stiffened.
Stefan turned his red gaze to me. "And the maxima who could potentially wipe out an entire coven."
I heard a low growl from Gabriel and Ingram. And soon, and almost everyone was eavesdropping on the Romanians now, like me. "With their witch twins they have no need of the illusionist or the fire touch." His eyes moved to Zafrina, then Kate.
Stefan looked at Edward. "Nor is the mind reader is exactly necessary. But I see your point. Indeed, they will gain much if they win."
"More than we can afford to have them gain, wouldn't you agree?"
Stefan sighed. "I think I must agree. And that means... "
"That we must stand against them while there is still hope."
"If we can just cripple them, even, expose them . . ."
"Then, someday, others will finish the job."
"And our long vendetta will be repaid. At last."
They locked eyes for a moment and then murmured in unison. "It seems the only way."
"So we fight," Stefan said.
Though I could see that they were torn, self-preservation warring with revenge, the smile they exchanged was full of anticipation.
"We fight," Vladimir agreed.
I suppose it was a good thing; like Alistair, I was sure the battle was impossible to avoid. In that case, two more vampires fighting on our side could only help. But the Romanians' decision still made me shudder.
"We will fight, too," Tia said, her usually grave voice more solemn than ever. "We believe the Volturi will overstep their authority. We have no wish to belong to them." Her eyes lingered on her mate.
Benjamin grinned and threw an impish glance toward the Romanians. "Apparently, I'm a hot commodity. It appears I have to win the right to be free."
"This won't be the first time I've fought to keep myself from a king's rule," Garrett said in a teasing tone. He walked over and clapped Benjamin on the back. "Here's to freedom from oppression."
"We stand with Carlisle," Tanya said. "And we fight with him."
The Romanians' pronouncement seemed to have made the others feel the need to declare themselves as well.
"We have not decided," Peter said. He looked down at his tiny companion; Charlotte's lips were set in dissatisfaction. It looked like she'd made her decision.
"The same goes for me," Randall said.
"And me," Mary added.
"The packs will fight with the Cullens," Jacob said suddenly. "We're not afraid of vampires," he added with a smirk.
"Children," Peter muttered.
"Infants," Randall corrected.
Jacob grinned tauntingly.
"We'll join you," I said.
"Violet," Gabriel said, looking at me worriedly.
"Reputation is what people think of you. Character is what you are." I quoted him.
Gabriel's face lit up with a fiery passion. Helena stood up and grabbed his hand in his. "I'll join," she said.
"So will I, definitely," Joseph said, walking to us.
"As well I," Ingram said, holding on to me; I could feel a smile creeping on my face.
"And me," Rhona said, standing next to Joseph.
"And me," Alana agreed.
"It's not the first time I've fight," Simon said, holding her hand.
"I guess I'll join as well," Ethan spoke and stood with us.
"Well, I'm in, too," Maggie said, shrugging out from under Siobhan's restraining hand. "I know truth is on Carlisle's side. I can't ignore that."
Siobhan stared at the junior member of her coven with worried eyes. "Carlisle," she said as if they were alone, ignoring the suddenly formal feel of the gathering, the unexpected outburst of declarations, "I don't want this to come to a fight."
"Nor do I, Siobhan. You know that's the last thing I want." He half-smiled.
"Perhaps you should concentrate on keeping it peaceful."
You know that won't help," she said.
"It couldn't hurt," Carlisle said.
Siobhan rolled her eyes. "Shall I visualise the outcome I desire?" she asked sarcastically.
Carlisle was openly grinning now. "If you don't mind."
"Then there is no need for my coven to declare itself, is there?" she retorted.
"Since there is no possibility of a fight." She put her hand back on Maggie's shoulder, pulling the girl closer to her. Liam stood silent and expressionless.
The air in the room was thick with confusion as Carlisle and Siobhan exchanged playful banter. Their words were like a secret code, understood only by the two of them. The rest of us were left to puzzle over their cryptic conversation, our faces twisted in bewilderment.
As the last of the vampires began to filter out of the room, I felt Bella's hand gripping onto my shoulder.
"Can I have a word with you privately?" she asked me, her tone hushed.
I nodded, following Bella as she led me to a quiet corner away from the others. Her eyes, usually so calm and composed, were now stormy with emotion. I braced myself for what she was about to say, sensing the weight of her words before they were even spoken.
"Bella, what's going on?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
She took a deep breath, her eyes flickering with a mix of sadness and determination. "I need you to promise me something, Violet," she said, her voice trembling slightly. "If anything happens to Edward and me, you have to protect Renesmee. You, Jacob, and Ingram. You have to keep her safe, no matter what."
The intensity of her plea caught me off guard, and I felt a lump forming in my throat. "Bella, nothing is going to happen to you. We'll all fight together, and we'll win. We have to."
Her grip on my shoulder tightened, her eyes piercing into mine. "I know you believe that, and I want to believe it too. But we have to be prepared for anything. Renesmee is everything to us, and if we fall, she needs someone to guide her, to love her. Promise me, Violet."
I swallowed hard, feeling the gravity of her words settle into my bones. "I promise, Bella. I won't let anything happen to her."
A small, sad smile tugged at the corners of her lips. "Thank you," she whispered, pulling me into a tight hug. I hugged her back, feeling the warmth of her body and the coldness of our uncertain future mingling together.
I leaned in, my lips brushing against her ear as I spoke in a hushed tone.
"Tell J that Lilac Wolfe isn't going," I murmured, my words barely audible above the din of the departing crowd.
Bella's eyes widened in surprise, but she quickly composed herself and nodded in understanding. With a sly smile, she slipped away into the night, her mission clear.
The room slowly emptied as each vampire took a moment to absorb the weight of their declarations and the daunting task ahead. The air was thick with tension and unspoken fears, but a glimmer of determination shone through. As I stood there, contemplating the events that had just unfolded, I felt a gentle hand on my shoulder. I turned to see Ingram, his eyes filled with concern and resolve.
"Are you ready for this?" he asked softly, his voice barely above a whisper.
I nodded, feeling the weight of the promise I had made to Bella settle heavily on my shoulders. "We have to be. For Renesmee, for everyone."
He pulled me into a reassuring embrace, his strength and warmth providing a brief moment of solace amidst the chaos. "We'll get through this," he murmured against my hair. "Together."
As we broke apart, I caught sight of Gabriel and Joseph approaching, their expressions mirroring the resolve that now coursed through me. The four of us stood together, a united front against the uncertain future that loomed ahead.
"We need to prepare," Joseph said, his voice steady and determined. "We have to be ready for whatever comes."
Simon nodded in agreement, his eyes flicking towards the door where Bella had disappeared. "And we need to make sure Renesmee is safe, no matter what."
With a shared look of determination, we made our way out of the room, each step a silent vow to protect those we loved and to fight for a future that seemed increasingly uncertain. The forest outside was dark and still, a stark contrast to the turmoil within the house. As we walked, the gravity of our situation settled over us like a shroud, but there was a spark of hope that refused to be extinguished.
The night was far from over, and there was much to be done. But in that moment, surrounded by those who had become my family, I knew we would face whatever came together. And that, I realized, was a strength the Volturi could never take from us.
We gathered in a small clearing, the moon casting a pale light over us as we began to discuss our next steps. Each of us contributed our ideas, strategies, and strengths, forming a plan that would hopefully tip the scales in our favor.
As the hours passed and the first light of dawn began to break through, I felt a renewed sense of purpose. We were not just fighting for survival; we were fighting for each other, for the bonds we had formed and the love that united us. And in the face of such overwhelming odds, that love would be our greatest weapon.

"Charlie! You're so freaking goofy, man." You shove him.
"Hey, I'm a cop, I know things." He laughs. He looks around in his office and then sighs.
"What's it today, Swan?" You ask, leaning back in the chair in front of his desk.
"My daughter's about to get married to this dumbass." He rolls his eyes.
You lean forward, intrigued. "Who?" You ask.
"Edward Cullen." He chuckles.
"Carlisle's son?" You ask in shock.
He nods his head. "Being new to Forks, everyone knows everyone." He says.
"Hey, I'm realizing that now."
Charlie has been a good guide to your new area. He's been so helpful to you. He's got you a job at the sheriffs department. You make food and coffee in the breakroom. You also keep up with papers and organize files. Without Charlie's help, you'd be jobless.
"Billy and I are going on a fishing trip next weekend. Do you want a side gig?" He asks you.
"I mean, sure." You smile.
"You haven't met anyone in La Push besides Billy and Sue, right?"
You nod your head.
"Well, maybe you could make friends on this gig. Basically, during the trip, could you house sit for him? Billy is, uh, paranoid about leaving his house unattended." Charlie laughs.
"It doesn't sound like a bad idea!" You smile.
"Y/n," there's a knock on the opened door, "time to wrap up for the night." You turn to see one of the dispatchers. You stand up and finish up what you have to.
"Make yourself at home while I'm gone. Don't be shy about getting food. Just make sure nothing burns down." Billy says.
Charlie grabs his bag and smiles at you.
"I've got your back!" You give Billy a thumbs up.
"Hey, Billy!" A young toned guy spawns inside.
You look at him, and then he looks at you. His brown eyes catch yours like a fish hook. You can't get out. You can't get away. Honestly, you don't want to. He's so beautiful..
"Kid, what do you need?" Charlie asks.
The guy doesn't move or talk.
Billy looks at you, then him, then back at you, and he smiles.
The guy jerks out of his thoughts. "Sorry! Sorry! Uh, Sam said you needed me. But I think I know why." He chuckles.
Billy nods his head. "Yes, check in on her while I'm gone. Make sure she's alright." He clicks his tongue. "Let's go!" He looks at Charlie.
The two men leave, and it's just you and this guy.
"So, I'm Quil Ateara." He reaches his hand put for yours.
You're absolutely confused as to why they have this random guy here to check on you. Bit you reach your hand out to his. Once your palms meet, you get butterflies in your stomach.
"Hey, I'm y/n. So, why are you here?" You ask, not realizing it sounded kind of rude.
He's scoffs, jokingly, and then pulls away. "Wow, alright!" He laughs.
"Oh! No! I don't mean it like that! I'm just-"
"Yeah, I got you. I know what you meant." He backs away to the front door, opening it. "I'm a busy person, but I was asked to check in on you to make sure you don't need anything and if you're okay." He explains.
You nod your head and look around the house. You start to think about being in an unfamiliar house in the middle of nowhere is lowkey scary.
"Well, if I need anything, I'll call you. Do you want to give me your number?" You reach in your pocket for your phone.
His eyes light up, and he smiles. "Sure!" He steps toward you, gently grabbing your phone. He types for a bit and then hands it back to you. He makes his way back to the door and nods. "See you later, y/n." He shuts the door.
Once he leaves, you step to the door to make sure it's locked. Of course, the handsome guy locked it for you! You step back from the door and make your way to the spare bedroom down the hall. Your backpack is lying on the small bed covered with white blankets and sheets.
Opening the backpack, your clothes start spilling over. You begin to unpack, putting your bathroom things in the small bathroom.
After unpacking, you take a shower and then get in bed.
You get on your phone and scroll on tiktok before falling victim to slumber.
You wake up freezing uour ass off. You're feeling so tired. You check your phone, and it is 7:00 am. Yay.
You put on some fuzzy socks, layer some clothes on, and walk into the living room where the thermostat is. You turn up the air and walk into the kitchen. You dig around for some breakfast. You settle on a bowl of cereal.
There's a couple of knocks on the front door. You walk over there and look out the door window. It's Quil. How is he shirtless? What the hell?
You open the door quickly. "Quil, get inside. It's freezing!" You shiver at the cold air from outside hitting you.
Quil chuckles and steps inside. "Cold?" He asks the obvious.
"Duh!" You shut the door and rubs on your arms.
He walks to the thermostat and bites his lip. "Sorry, Billy doesn't like this being up above 70." He turns it down.
You groan and look at him confused. "I have to freeze?"
"No." He steps up to you, hovering over you.
You haven't been this close to him. You can feel his body heat. You're holding your breath and refusing to look up at him. Your eyes are stuck on his collarbones. "Uhm," you cough, "is there like a heater in here?" You ask awkwardly.
He reaches down to your side. You gasp slightly because even though you have a hoodie on, his touch gives you tingles, and the heat radiating from his hand flows through the fabrics. He slightly pushes you over to walk past you. He steps into the laundry room. You hear a few beeps and then a fan noise.
He comes out, leaving the door open and walking in front of you. "There's a heater in there. You can change the settings." He explains, chewing the inside of his bottom lip.
"How are you not cold?" You reach forward and touch his shoulder.
He tenses up, taking in a breath and watching you.
"Because I'm cool like that." He chuckles.
You roll your eyes and shove him.
He bursts into laughter, and you make your way into the kitchen.
"Hungry?" You ask, stepping back to your bowl of cereal.
He shakes his head and goes toward the door. "No ma'am. I have to go. I'll check on you again tonight. Text if you need anything." He waves and leaves, locking the door behind him.
------
You step out of your car with the alcohol in one hand and some snacks in the other. You step up to the door, place the bags down, and reach in your pocket for the keys.
You feel nothing.
You freak out and look everywhere. You can't find it!
You look everywhere in the car, leaving your bags at the door. The key is absolutely no where! What the hell?
You go to the house and try to open up a window. All of them are locked.
You peak through the door and see the damn key on the dining table! "Shit." You grab your phone and call Quil.
"Hello?"
"Hey, it's me. I'm stuck outside. I left the key in the house." You chuckle at yourself, embarrassed. You rub your palm on your forehead.
"I'll be right there!"
You stand there, waiting for the handsome guy to show up.
A truck pulls in and Quil steps out.
"Ha! You have on a shirt? Where'd you go?" You asked being nosey.
He takes off his sunglasses and hangs it on his collar. He chuckles at you, stepping to the door. "Working at the shop with Jacob." He pulls a key out of his pocket and opens the door.
"Who's Jacob?" You ask.
He raises an eyebrow at you. "Billy's son. He's busy being married and working at his automotive shop."
"Did I drag you away from work?" You ask worriedly.
"Yes, thank you." He smiles, bending down to grab your bags.
You two walk inside, and he places them on the dining table.
"Alcohol, eh?" He smirks. "Having a party?" He turns to you.
"Nope. It's just me." You smile. "Did Jacob give you the key?" You ask.
He nods his head and then walks to the door. "I'll be back tonight." He says, shutting the door.
You start to realize the more you see Quil, the more you want him around. You really like him which scares you. You guys JUST met.
You shake off your thoughts and sit on the couch, watching some TV.
Tomorrow is your last day to be here. Then, the two older men will be back, and you go to work on Monday.
When the moon comes up, you crack open some alcohol you bought. You play some music and relax by yourself.
You keep drinking and drinking until you are very tipsy. You lay down on the couch with your eyes closed, loving the slight spin.
Then, you feel warm hands hold your face from behind. "You're drunk?"
You smile and grab onto one of his hands that lay on your cheek. "Is it bad that I am?"
He pulls away and sits on the other couch. You open your eyes and sit up, looking at him. He has an amused look on his face.
"What's so funny, mister Quil." You slur.
"Nothing. Nothing. I'm just making sure you're good for tonight." He leans forward.
"Yup! Alllllll good." You wink.
You notice he blushes slightly and stands up. "Okay! Good. I'll be back in the morning." He says, about to walk away.
You grab his wrist as he walks past you. He looks down at you, confused. "I hate when you leave."
He keeps his gaze on your face. "I'll be back tomorrow." He repeats.
You frown and let his wrist go. Your heart feels broken now.
He sees the sadness on your face and closes his lips onto a thin line.
"Sorry, I made things weird. I just feel.. warm when I'm with you." You play with your fingers.
You look back up at him and see he's smiling.
He leans down and places a kiss on your head, bringing his hand up to your cheek. He bends down to your level and looks into your eyes. "I know. Me too. But I have to go." He says softly.
You are in awe of his eyes and face. You're stuck in a trance. But he moves back and then walks out. You sit there, thinking about everything and counting every butterfly in your stomach.
You finish packing your bag and cleaning the bedding. You zip up your backpack and turn off the lamp next to the bed.
"Knock, knock."
You turn and see Quil leaning on the doorframe. You instantly smile and your heart races.
"Good morning, Quil."
Saying his name makes him smile and look down.
"Good morning, y/n." He replies.
You sigh and cock your head to the side. He steps closer to you.
"Thank you for checking on me like I need supervision." You giggle.
"Thank you for giving me the opportunity to meet you." He says, pushing hair behind your ear.
You hold your breath for a moment and stare at him.
"Do I make you nervous?" He furrows his eyebrows with a sweet smile.
You nod, slowly, refusing to tear away the eye contact. But, the front door opens, and you recognize Charlie's laughter. This pulls you out of your trance, and you walk out of the room, Quil following behind you.
"Damn! You kept my house clean. I appreciate you." Billy smiles at you.
"It's no problem!" You pipe up.
Charlie steps to you and grabs your shoulder. "Ready for work?" He asks sarcastically.
"Nope!"
----
You walk into the state troopers office, knocking on the opened door. He stops typing and looks up at you, smiling.
"Miss Y/n, you got the package?" He looks in your arms.
You hold the brown box that amazon delivered.
"Yes, sir!" You step to his desk and place it down.
"Thank you!" He looks at the clock and gasps. "Go home! It's an hour past your scheduled time." He looks back at you.
"Yes, I know. I just wanted to be sure I had everything done so tomorrow isn't a train wreck." You chuckle.
He leans back in his chair, spinning side to side. "Hey, been there done that. Goodnight, y/n." He smiles.
"Goodnight!" You walk into your space and grab you stuff.
You head outside walking to your car. You sit down and pull your phone out. There are no messages. You miss Quil. You haven't seen him since Sunday morning. It's now Wednesday. You guys have been texting here and there, getting to know each other. You don't know how to ask him to come over. You're so nervous!
You look up and sigh, trying to think of what to text him. Out the windshield, you see a rose placed under the windshield wiper. You squint in confusion and step out to grab it. There's a ribbon wrapped around it. Is this Quil? No way... is it?
You get back in your car, placing it in the passenger seat. You grab your phone and groan. "Don't be a coward." You say out loud.
You: would you like to see me tonight?
You're surprised he responds back as fast as he did.
Quil: more than anything. Where are we meeting?
You: oh! What if we meet up at the beach? La Push.
Quil: count me in. Lmk when you're ready.
The wind is blowing through your hair. Outside is a hint of blue. The moon is bright and the waves are loud.
You walk through the sand, closer to the man standing in front of the water, staring out. You walk closer and closer and he looks over at you with a smile.
"Y/n." He breathes out, wrapping you up in a tight hug as if he... misses you...
You hold him back, smelling his earthy scent. You couldn't help but run your fingers through his hair in the back of his head. Doing so made him hug you tighter. You close your eyes as you relax in his peaceful presence.
"Quil." You whisper.
He pulls away and looks down at you, keeping his hands on your sides. "Mhm?"
"Why do I feel attached to you?" You reach up, grabbing his face.
He doesn't respond but his lips part slightly. He starts to lean down. You nervously lift yourself up. Your lips hover each other before he finally presses down.
The fire that just ignited you. His lips feel like they're going to ascend you to heaven. You kiss him harder, adding some of your tongue. He follows you and pulls your body closer to his.
He finally pulls away, leaving you breathless.
"I'm attached to you too." He whispers.
"But why?" You ask.
"I.. if I tell you, will you run away from me?" He asks.
This breaks your heart. You can't imagine pulling away from Quil.
-----
You plop down on your couch in shock, dropping your phone to the floor.
Vampires?
Wolves?
You literally just saw this guy turn into a fucking wolf.
-----
Friday. A new day. Time to think clearly.
You turn off the alarm on your phone and see Quil's messages.
Quil: I hope you are feeling okay. You don't have to talk to me anymore. Just let me know if you're okay, please.
You: I'm okay. I'm still going to talk to you. I just need more information. I'm going to work. I'll TTYL.
Your work day was absolutely easy! Thank God. Not only that but it's your last day for the week. Although it was easy, you kept having flashbacks of Quil's wolf form. But it gets easier with every forced image. You start to feel safer... and then safer. It's starting to make sense. It's all been settling in.
You step inside Charlie's office. He's standing up, putting on his jacket. "Off to duty?" You giggle.
He nods his head and sighs. "Yup. Got a complaint about loud neighbors." He stops and looks at you. "You doing okay, kid?"
You nod your head and lean on the door. "I'm good, Charlie. I've been... in love." You smile.
"Quil Ateara. Good boy! But if he hurts you, I'll kill him." He pats your shoulder.
Charlie leaves in his cop car with his partner. You get inside your car and call Quil.
"Hey." He says.
"Hey. Come over." You were shocked at how casual you are starting to feel about this whole new life. Immortals and shifters. Sounds fun?
"Yes! I'll be there!" He sounds so happy.
You get to your house and see him outside, waiting for you. But once you park, he's quick to open your door and pull you out. He hovers over you and smiles. "You look beautiful as always." He gushes.
"Mm, brownie points earned, Ateara." You wrap your arms around his neck and pull him down to kiss you.
He kisses you back and walks forward until you back is you against your car. His hands hold your face, and he's kissing you as if he hasn't in a thousand years.
But he pulls away. "If you're comfortable with it, I was wondering if you'd like to meet the pack tomorrow?" He asks.
This lowkey excites you! Being around a bunch of wolves and a few humans.. shit... count you in.
"Yes!" You squeal.

"This dancing was killing me softly."
Part 2 of "I needed to lose you to find me"
Seth Clearwater x Swan! Female! Reader
Summary: You and Seth always been childhood bestfriends, one sudden day in a romantic moment, Seth imprints on you and you try to hide your feelings and after a little while, you realize you need him.
Warnings: Angst,
A/N: to the ppl that love Angst, enjoy. To the ones that don't, sorry.
It had been 2 weeks since that day. It was torture. This is the longest you and Seth haven't seen each other and it was hurting you. It was then Charlie came in your room and said that you were not doing good and what had happened. You just said that you two had a misunderstanding and that you don't know if you two would be okay.
This went on and then you found out Bella was pregnant with Edward's vampire baby. You felt like your head was gonna explode. Over the next few weeks Bellas baby started growing way to fast. It was like two weeks after that you seen Seth. You turned around and walked the other way. You knew he was mad at you. And you didn't wanna stick around to hear about it. Bella went into labor and you were staying in the living room. More like forced. Once Rosalie came in with Renesmee, she told you to go outside and talk to Seth. That he was having a really hard time. You didn't really want to, knowing that you over reacted a bit and should honestly give him a chance.
You felt connected to Seth, and quite frankly was waiting for this. So why were you so scared? It might be with the fear of getting your heart broken like Edward broke your sisters heart.
You declined. And this went on for weeks . And then Sue Clearwater started dating your dad. That meant Seth and Leah would be over all the time. Even potentially move in.
And the did. Sue and her kids moved in, and you tried your best to ignore Seth so the tension wouldn't be so awkward.
Your dad finally caught on and askd you what was up. All you said was that it was fine and that he already asked and you were fine.
The Renesmee was accused of being an immortal child and that the volturi was coming for the cullens.
And one day, while everyone was out it was just you and Seth. You got hungry and went downstairs. Seth had thought you were gone and was in his stupid boxers. You huts ignored him we being absolutely flushed and got some cereal. "Wanna tell me why you haven't talked to me for a month?" He said. "I have nothing to say." You replied. " Well I've missed you.." He said quietly. You just kept quiet and grabbed your cereal and was going upstairs. "Also, put some clothes on." You tried to laugh stuff off. Then Seth grabbed your arm and said, "you wanna act like nothing happened? FIne! Good by me. Act like you don't love me or at least like me, cause I know you do. You're a horrible liar! And quite frankly if you don't wanna talk to me saying you have nothing to say, then I don't have anything to say either." He said and stormed up to his room.
