MAL WALDRON & MARION BROWN, Toronto 1987 + 1988
Malcolm Earl Waldron was one of the most prolific jazz artists I ever photographed, recording over 100 albums under his name and over 70 as a sideman. I met him for the first time in 1987, when he was in town for a solo concert and to record a solo record for a label owned by a local music promoter. Born in New York City, he was the house pianist at Prestige Records, and appeared on records by everyone from Charles Mingus, John Coltrane and Eric Dolphy to Gene Ammons, Kenny Burrell and Teddy Charles. He was Billie Holiday's last accompanist, and after her death played with singer Abbey Lincoln and her husband Max Roach. His playing began to change during this period, but it was a breakdown after a drug overdose in 1963 that really marked a shift in his playing; he had to re-learn music, and his sound took on a minimal, austere style after this. I tried to capture a bit of this when I photographed him for the first time, in a barely furnished room upstairs in the club on Queen Street West where he was playing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I photographed Mal Waldron again almost exactly a year later, when he returned to the same club with saxophonist Marion Brown. The two had played as a duet on a record in 1985, and their styles mixed together well, with elements of hard bop and free jazz that reflected their own long careers in jazz, though Brown had only started recording as a leader in the late '60s. I didn't give either of them much direction when I took their portraits in the same room where I'd photographed Waldron a year later - a space that had acquired a ragged couch and several other pieces of worn-out furniture since that first shoot. That included a rickety chair that I stood on when trying to get a slightly more elevated view with my waist-level Mamiya camera; I teetered on the chair for a second before it collapsed beneath me, the tubular frame hitting me on the back of the head as I fell. I made sure my camera was OK when the stars cleared, while Waldron and Brown looked on with the same cool gaze and asked "are you alright?"

Saxophonist Marion Brown made his early mark on two classics of free jazz - Archie Shepp's Fire Music and John Coltrane's Ascension. Like Mal Waldron he had an interest in the music of Erik Satie, and spent much of his career living and playing in Europe from the '60s onward. He appeared on Harold Budd's ambient album The Pavilion of Dreams and began painting and drawing a few years before I photographed him with Waldron. I took a few portraits of him alone, and one of them is still among my favorite early portraits - the sort of simple, direct work I was striving to create at the time, though it wasn't the kind of portrait style that was much in vogue. I also took some live shots of Waldron and Brown either before or after both shoots, and one of them ended up in the artwork of the album Waldron recorded here (though you have to squint to find it.) Marion Brown died in Hollywood, Florida after a series of illnesses in 2010. Mal Waldron died of cancer in Brussels in 2002.

Celta– in 1995, Princess Diana wrote a note to Paul Burrell, saying she believes her husband Charles wanted to murder her. That genuine note was published in British papers in 2003. As a result, the Met Police had to interview Prince Charles in 2004 as part of an investigation about that note (and other conspiracy theories surrounding the death of Princess Diana) and found no evidence that Charles was involved in Diana’s death. It does make me wonder if things like this written note by Diana is what may have caused Harry to believe his father killed his mother, per your latest tarot reading.

Hi TeaWithBooks,
That note could very well have been what started Harry down this line of thought, although I think that Meghan has helped turn this idea into a full blown belief and paranoia on Harry’s part.
It is awful that Princess Diana felt so alone and so frightened that she wrote that note. I wish so much that she could have gotten the help she needed at that time.

I’m shaking my head at “royal” fans who still insist charles should do something about harry and meghan before the coronation. The coronation is what will engrave in everyone’s mind that he actually is now the king. Even though everyone knows he is king, i’m pretty sure global general public is still more familiar with late queen, so they unconsciously still sees him as her son, prince of wales. And to be totally honest, prince of wales doesn’t have the big impact that king does, especially when other prince is known as late queen’s favorite and princess royal is general public’s favorite. It’s better to deal with harry and meghan when global general public sees it as king doing his best to protect his kingdom rather than father dealing with his son. I notice how most people focus more on father son relationship than king prince status when talking about them together. Just like harry and meghan want them to see it as.

The people who are complaining most vehemently are the ones who a) dislike Charles a LOT, b) believe William is the destined savior of the BRF, c) don't know much about decades-old discussions about modernizing/slimming the British monarchy, e.g. The Way Ahead Group, and d) just want the Sussexes punished via letters patent.
A) The root cause of all the vehemence is that Charles has the temerity to live and stop William from being crowned king this May. The vast majority is rooted in the belief that Charles is allowing the Sussexes to walk all over him. Never mind that Charles is the survivor of one of the worst pr wars in modern history.
Never mind that the person who actually could have prevented the Sussex children from having titles at all was Charles' mother, Queen Elizabeth II. Somehow, she escapes all scorn.
QEII--who conveniently "remembered" Paul Burrell told her he was keeping some of Diana's things after his trial began--had a major problem with direct confrontation. The woman whose ostrich syndrome caused MPs to register their anger over the situation because the government had wasted money on a public trial. All because she was too reluctant to come forward after weeks of public scandal & spectacle.
Are there MPs complaining in parliament about this title situation? Nope. Will they? Nope. There are actual issues of relevance to the general population that they need to focus on these days. Titles for the Sussex kids for a few months aren't the end of the fucking world, and most people know it.
B) For some reason, William is the person who automatically would solve all problems instantaneously, even though he doesn't do much work. This is because the UK tabs have published numerous articles about William's "anger" over each and every Sussex infringement. Never does it cross people's minds that Charles could be angry too. Conveniently, certain people suck up every single story where Wills is angry at Harry; they never believe the stories from this past winter where William was actually worried about Harry. Somehow, William is only capable of one emotion when it comes to Harry: anger. Never worry. It's always how Harry is victimizing William through the press. It's such a one-sided story that if it was a in a movie, no one would find it plausible because the William in these tabloid stories is a straight-up, cartoonishly one-note dude.
William is the one-note savior in this story who will vanquish the terrible Sussexes. It's so fucking cliché.
C) ALL the people complaining about unissued letters patent and titles seem to have no understanding of the discussions that took place in the 1990s, aka The Way Ahead Group, regarding modernizing the monarchy. If you know about it, then you understand why James & Louise aren't referred to as HRHs or Prince/ss. They were styled as the son and daughter of a peer due to the decisions made in The Way Ahead Group. Decisions that should have been put to letters patent by QEII twenty-plus years ago; however, that would mean that she would have had to not indulge her family. She was never not going to do that. Prime example of her indulgences: Andrew.
D) People just want the Sussexes punished via letters patent. Understandable. However, people are acting as if it's the most important job of the monarch. As if Charles should have made it his first priority the instant he became king. Screw the red boxes, mourning his mother, and visiting the four countries of the United Kingdom. He failed at being king because he wasn't the pettiest bitch ever and didn't sign a prewritten letters patent in between his bouts of mourning and all the other events that were pre-planned over ten days. Isn't that the most insensitive attitude directed at someone genuinely grieving!
Most of the people I've seen complaining most vehemently aren't asking for Beatrice & Eugenie to lose their titles & styles. There are also people who think Louise & James should suddenly style themselves HRH Prince/ss James/Louis of Edinburgh. Never do they realize that all four are going to lose their titles & styles.
When Charles issues his letters patent, it's going to be a big deal. It's a major cultural change for the UK. Due to that, it needs to be announced in a way that allows for people in the UK to absorb that the monarchy is changing. Significantly.
A knee jerk letters patent isn't going to happen just to deny the Sussex kids titles. That's not the purpose of the upcoming letters patent. The purpose is to modernize the monarchy.
The Sussexes know this. That's why Harry's wife whined to Oprah about the change in their infamous interview. No one was promoting the Sussex kids' titles except the Sussexes. The palace is in the process of making their changes behind the scenes. The Sussexes--technically Harry's wife if you think about it--insisted publicly that they wanted their kids to be known with prince/ss titles. The palace was not inclined to list them with those titles until they publicly insisted on it.
The reason for that is that they were attempting to prevent any embarrassment for the kids due to losing a short-term title. That's why the palace "respects their wishes." The palace "respects" the Sussex attempts to be famewhores and not realize the embarrassment they'll encounter after the letters patent announcement is released. They "respect their wishes" just as many people "respect other people's differences."
Still too hard for the Charles haters to understand though.

Muppet Movies Ranked
I've recently marathoned all 8 theatrical Muppet movies ,and these are my rankings.Keep in mind I think all 8 are good movies,I just prefer some to others
8.The Muppets
I like the nostalgic look back stuff.....But the peoblem is I dont like Walter or the human characters .This film is the most meh to me
Tumblr media
7.Muppets From Space
ITs diffrent,being the only non musical in the series ,and I do like that the film focuses on my favorite Muppet Gonzo and doesnt showcase just the Muppet Show guys but the Muppets Tonght guys as well but the story isnt all there,I dont think Jeffrey Tambours villain has the right ending and it is painfully 90's
Tumblr media
6.Great Muppet Caper
Oooooh for putting this so low I might get some hate,but I shall explain .This is the most irreverant ,silly and funniest Mupppet movie,if you just want to laugh this is great .THis film is pure Henson wackyness,the film is not taking itself seriously at all.....And while I enjoy that.....I prefer a Muppet movie to have a bit more heart and story to go with the silly FOr me the characters,story and songs are a bit lacking .Again jokes are brillaint,performances are good (Charles Grodin looks like he is in LOVE with Miss Piggy and it is amazing) and it may have my favorite cameo in any Muppet movie .I do like the movie,I just like 5 others better
Tumblr media
5.Muppets Most Wanted
This film is VERY similar to Great Muppet Caper ,and while not funnier,I think its more solid .I adore the songs,especially the Big House ,I think the story is really good ,I love Sam and Ty Burrels chemistry ,the cameos are top notch ,Tina Fey as the Russian warden Nadya delivers one of the best human characters in all the Muppet movies and the film has possibly the best villain in all the Muppet movies in Constantine who is good mix of hilarious and threatening .Not all the effects worked and....I really wish someone else other then Ricky Gervais played the secondary villain Dominic Badguy.Overall though its an enjoyable film
Tumblr media
4.Muppets Take Manhatten
The one that surprised me .Of the orignal three its the one people dont talk about but ....I love it,its a bit more of a low key Muppet film ,ITs a much more character focused film. .The Dabney Coleman scene cracks me up,Saying Goodbye is tearjerking and the finale is spectacular
Tumblr media
3.Muppet Christmas Carol
A legit really good take on a Christmas Carol,possibly one of the best takes .The first film without Jim Henson ,and I think it showed the Muppets could survive .Less about the jokes and more about the heart and artistry while still having fun and humor . the Muppet performers are on top form,especially Gonzo and Rizzo as the narrators ,but the highlight of the film is honestly the phenomenal performance of Michael Caine as the coldhearted Scrooge ,giving off a legit good dramtic performance while talking to Puppets .Also the songs by Pqaul Williams are just top notch
Tumblr media
2.The Muppet Movie
The one that started it all,a heartwarming story about a bunch of weirdos coming together in pursuit of a dream,its sweet,its funny ,Paul Williams songs are great (Especially Im Going to Go Back There Some Day and Rainbow Connection),theres some fun cameos (Mel Brooks steals the show ) and Charles Durning gives an underrated performance as a psychotic fast food mogul
Tumblr media
1.Muppet Treasure Island
This....WAs one of the first movies I ever saw,and I have never stopped loving it .The muppet mayhem is funny(DEad Toms Dead always gets me ),its exciting ,the songs are all top notch ,and it has the best human cast with Kevin Bishop as the adventurous young Jim .Jennifer Saunders asa bombastic Inn owner,Billy Connolly as old drunkn pirate Billy Bones and the legend himself Tim Curry hamming it up as the villainous Long John Silver in perhaps his greatest performance ,cause he is equally great with the comedy as he is at delivering tender softer moments with Jim as a sort of surrogate father

https://pagesix.com/2023/04/25/prince-harry-has-no-clue-where-hell-be-seated-for-king-charles-coronation/
Not him saying he’s still close to all his cousins!! (Except James and Louise, he doesn’t know they exist 😂)
Prince Harry still has no idea where he’ll be seated for King Charles’ coronation
Prince Harry still has no clue where he will sit when he joins his relatives for King Charles’ coronation, sources told Page Six.
So far, officials have not told the renegade royal how far down he will be in the pecking order at Westminster Abbey on May 6, despite being the king’s youngest son.
Princess Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell — who was accused by Harry and his brother, Prince William, of “betraying” the late princess for publishing her private letters — this week mooted that Harry may be stuck in a 10th-row seat at the ceremony.
One source sniffed: “Harry has not been told where he’s sitting yet, but I highly doubt that [it’s as far back as the 10th row].
“Harry’s going to show up to support his dad. All I know is that it’s a stretch to ask much more for him … he doesn’t have any sort of agenda other than just getting in and getting out.”
Page Six is told that Harry did ask about seating before making the decision to fly over to England from his home in California for the coronation.
“Harry’s heard nothing from Buckingham Palace for the seating,” another insider told Page Six. “For the most part, I think all parties will be focused on making the day as special as possible for the king.”
A rep for the Sussexes was unavailable for comment.
The insider adds that although Harry is estranged from William, 40, he remains close to many of his cousins — including Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, the daughters of Prince Andrew; as well as Princess Anne’s daughter Zara Phillips and her husband Mike Tindall.
It’s unlikely that Harry will be in attendance at a celebratory concert at Buckingham Palace as part of the post-coronation festivities.
Sources told Page Six that Harry plans to leave soon after the church service ends to fly back to the US, where the time difference could allow him to be with his son, Archie, on the boy’s 4th birthday.
As Page Six previously revealed, the former “Suits” actress thinks it would be “inauthentic” to join the royal family at the event.
Instead, she will stay home in California with her children to celebrate Archie’s birthday.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
this is hilarious lmfao first of all, imagine being so thin-skinned that you take a JOKE so seriously to the point of leaking to the media; also I doubt he still has any relationship with his cousins except for Eugenie but whatever floats his boat ig
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg will not prosecute the parking-garage attendant who shot a suspected thief after getting wounded himself, the DA’s office told The Post on Sunday.
Moussa Diarra, 57, was shot twice by alleged thief Charles Rhodie, 59, early Saturday before turning the tables on the suspect and pumping a bullet into him with the accused criminal’s handgun, authorities said.
Yet cops charged Diarra with attempted murder, assault and gun possession in the case, while Rhodie was slapped with those three raps as well as burglary.
But Bragg — who is already under fire for indicting former President Donald Trump last week in a fraud-related case — will dismiss the case against Diarra “pending further investigation,” his office said.
The raps remain against Rhodie, who police sources say has at least 20 prior arrests, mostly for petit larceny, with the most recent one occurring in 2018. Diarra has no priors, sources said.
“We are more than pleased with the result,” Diarra’s lawyer, Charles Clayman, told The Post on Sunday.
“I think what they wanted to do was sort things out, and both men had been shot,” he said of police. “And they just didn’t have time just to start talking to witnesses at that point.
“By this morning, people understood exactly what had happened, what a hero and victim my client was. Obviously not the perpetrator,” he said.
“So all’s well that ends well.”
The shooting occurred at a West 31st Street parking garage around 5:30 a.m. Saturday, cops said.
Diarra spotted Rhodie peering into cars in the garage and confronted him, demanding to know what was in his bag, police sources have said.
Rhodie allegedly responded by pulling a gun and shooting the attendant twice.
Diarra then wrestled the gun away and fired at Rhodie, hitting him in the chest, sources said.
An NYPD rep said Sunday that the cops’ decision to also charge Diarra was made “with the guidance of the DA’s office” and referred further questions to prosecutors.
Diarra’s lawyer said Sunday, “We were in constant touch with the DA, and I just think that the police on the scene felt that that was the right thing to do.
“And then things would be sorted out by the DA, and I believe that’s what happened.”
The case bears striking similarities to two recent Manhattan cases that were later dropped by Bragg’s office.
Junior Aquino Hernandez, a worker at a Harlem fish market, was initially charged with murder for stabbing one man to death and wounding his brother Feb. 21.
Hernandez, 34, claimed self-defense when he fatally stabbed 25-year-old Malik Burrell and wounded Robert “Bobby” Burrell, 29, saying the pair returned to attack the fishmongers after getting caught trying to steal shrimp.
Prosecutors eventually dropped the murder charge against Hernandez pending further investigation.
Last year, 61-year-old Manhattan bodega worker Jose Alba also was famously charged in the stabbing death of Austin Simon, who was seen on video assaulting Alba behind the counter.
After widespread outcry from the community and some local politicians, the charges against Alba were also dismissed.
