I’ve seen so many people mess this up in fics/Tiktok’s and it’s getting annoying.
XIE LIAN IS THE STRONGEST!
Xie Lian is canonically stronger than Hua Cheng, he does not need Hua Cheng to fight for him.
XL beat Jun Wu, the Strongest Martial God, the Heavenly Emperor! All he needed was for his shackle to come off.
Xie Lian is not a weak, soft character that doesn’t know how to fight his own battles. He tries to talk things out instead of fighting due to his promise of never killing another man with his sword.
Thank you for coming to my ted talk

sorry but mei nianqing can’t convince me jun wu isn’t fruity. there simply isn’t a heterosexual explanation for all of that. xie lian’s whole title and branding is literally about jun wu finding him pleasing. like. i wasn’t born yesterday

Jun Wu: Let's test something: describe your gender in a way that will baffle cis people but other trans and enby peeps will get. Yin Yu: I prefer to not be perceived by others. Qi Rong: Idk pick a slur Xie Lian: I drank too much gender juice i wish i was an abstract concept Lang Qianqiu: Ooblek. My gender is ooblek. Shi Qingxuan: none gender with left boygirl Hua Cheng: A shapeshifting shadow monster that takes the form of your gay aunt's wife Ling Wen: If gender is a performance then mine is the curtains which are drawn in to block stagehands switching props and the backdrop Yushi Huang: I'm a girl in a man way Feng Xin: When you order man from wish Xuan Ji: I'm gender fluid but not in a "sometimes a girl sometimes a boy" way. Sometimes my gender is Wesley from Princess bride, a sexy cowboy, pirate temptress and greasy gamer entity. Mu Qing: an old vending machine that only gives you coffee and lime soda Quan Yizhen: I'm a person Quan Yizhen: i don't know what i'm doing leave me alone Shi Wudu: Booby mcbeardy face Pei Ming: No matter who you are, if you have sex with me, it's gay Jian Lan: "Hi, I'm non-binary. Please refer to me with gender neutral terms." (Source)

So one day when stuck in traffic I was brain rotting what kind of vehicle everyone if tgcf, because that's just how I am lol
Xie Lian: would drive an old reliable beater Subaru baja, because it's just there to get him from point a to point b, why does he care what it looks like? It will also have a small bed for stuff he would happen to find
Hua Cheng: Would drive a Subaru outback, it's incredibly safe to drive Gege around, and has enough room for anything that he might collect
Feng Xin: He would drive a Jeep Wrangler. He would want everyone to know how fun and cool he can be, even if he doesn't necessarily know how to use it.
Mu Qing: He would drive the newest possible BMW sedan, something to flaunt his status. He would obsessively polish it
Qi Rong: Would drive an f-250 lifted to the moon. It would be the loudest most obscene thing on the block, he would want you to know he's coming, especially since he won't be able to see you while he runs you down
Jun Wu: Would drive a Bentley, the ultimate statement power and luxury. A proclamation of I made it to the top, regardless of who I had to crush to make it here.

Listen, I know Jun Wu has done horrible, unforgivable things as a result of his bitterness and his anger and his grief and his resentment, and nothing can make up for the suffering and the anguish that he caused so many people, especially our sweet Xie Lian. I know that.
But... I still can't help but wish that someone, anyone, just one single person, had listened to his story and told him,
Hey. I'm really sorry that happened to you. That was a horrible thing to have to go through; no one could have deserved that. You tried your very hardest. You tried everything that you could think of to do. I'm sorry that not a single person appreciated your efforts. I'm sorry that they only used you. I'm sorry that they scorned and ridiculed and renounced you. I'm sorry that everyone left you all alone in the end. The fact that you tried should have counted for something. The fact that you even thought to try should have meant something.
I just think, maybe if someone had told him those words at any point in time, then things might have been different. Maybe he could have changed. Maybe his heart wouldn't have frozen over. Maybe he could have turned himself around.
For as much as he wanted to corrupt Xie Lian and make him his 'successor', I think maybe deep down, a part of him actually just wanted to be vindicated. To have his suffering be understood. And while Xie Lian did not owe him a single ounce of sympathy, if he had shown him even a little bit and said the above, I'm willing to bet the great White Clothed Calamity would have broken down crying.
Xie Lian himself was saved by a single act of compassion, after all.
There's just not enough empathy in stories.
