"Not again," Dalton Castle whispered to himself as he laid looking up at the ceiling of the hotel room, "please God, not again..."

It had been almost seven years since the match in which Dalton had first injured his back. He didn't blame anyone for this injury, how could he? It was a cumulation of opponents and his own hubris. Had he realized something was wrong early on, maybe he could have stopped it from getting as bad as it had, but he was champion. For the first time in his career, he had been Ring of Honor Champion and no one could take that away from him.

The only person who could ruin it was himself.

His career had not been where he wanted it to be lately. The loss of his chance to be Ring of Honor Television champion at the hands of Johnny ROH or Johnny Honor or whatever he was calling himself at Final Battle had started that downfall. It had broken his heart to know that the one championship he had worked for was stolen from him by someone who simply didn't care. The loss had shaken Dalton to his core.

It was supposed to change the night before at World's End.

Before the actual show, there had been a twenty, or was it nineteen including Luchasaurus, man battle royal. Dalton had entered with the intention on making the prize, a contract for a match for the TNT Championship, his own. There was a hope that he had lost in his eyes once again. There had been that hope up until his husband, his Dakota, had swiftly eliminated him from the match.

The same Dakota who was now coming back into the hotel room as Dalton laid in bed, unable to get up.

"Being a lazy bones today, birdie?" Dakota tried to gently ask as he sat the Starbucks he had brought back for the both of them on the nightstand. When Dalton didn't answer, Dakota pursed his lips and put a hand on his hip, "You're still not talking to me?"

"I can't get up," Dalton's voice was an almost hoarse whisper.

"Can't or won't birdie? C'mon. I got cake pops for breakfast," Dakota jiggled the bad before setting it down alongside the drinks of the nightstand.

"C...can't," Dalton answered, eyes still on the ceiling, "my back spasmed and I..."

Dakota swiftly got into Dalton's bag that sat at the foot of the bed. He produced the Tylenol bottle and fished inside of it for two of the pills. He laid on the bed next to Dalton, giving the gentle command of, "Open."

Dalton opened his mouth, allowing his partner to put the pills in his mouth. It was followed by the straw of his drink, an iced coffee, to swallow down his medication. "Thanks bear," Dalton gave a soft smile before his expression turned back into a scowl, "but I'm still mad at you."

Dalton rolled his eyes, moving to lay his head on Dalton's chest, "You can be mad all you want, birdie. I'm gonna be here anyways."

"It's…uh…you made this?" Dakota Heraldry raised an eyebrow as he glanced down at the newly handmade ornaments cooling on the baking tray that sat on the kitchen counter. It wasn't that they weren't well made ornaments. Dalton had proven that he had a talent for art, be it the pieces he painted over his Twitch streams or the arts and crafts projects he took on now that he was injured. In any other light the ornaments would have been just fine. In this light, however?

In this light the elf ornaments looked just a little phallic.

"I did!" Dalton beamed, his glasses resting on the bridge of his nose as he worked on painting one of the elves hats. The one he was currently working on painting tilted to the left, the ball at the end of the striped hat looking like something else entirely. "You gonna help me paint?"

Dakota sat across from Dalton at the table, hesitating before grabbing one of the shorts and fatter elves. He had a hard time calling them elf hats, all this considered. "So…um…how did you make these?"

"I used the cookie cutters in the drawer," Dalton peered at Dakota over the top of his glasses, a smirk pulling at the corners of his mouth. A mischievous gleam shone in his soft blue eyes as he watched his partner across the table.

"Well…that definitely looks…interesting," Dakota chuckled with a cock of his head. He dipped the end of his paintbrush in the firetruck red paint in front of himself as he thought about what Dalton had said. "Cookie cutters? When did we get Christmas cookie cutters?"

"I used the ones we got for Matt's birthday last year," Dalton piped up, hot lifting his eyes from the hat he was coloring. 𝑯𝒂𝒕, Dakota had to remind himself as he painted his own ornament, 𝒐𝒇 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒆 𝒊𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒂 𝒉𝒂𝒕.

But he knew those cookie cutters. He had bought those cookie cutters.

"You mean the…" Dakota slowly put down the paintbrush he was holding slowly, raising an eyebrow to glance at Dalton, who was now grinning from ear to ear. "Oh my god, you didn't!"

"I saw the idea on TikTok yesterday," Dalton giggled as he put his own paintbrush down with a wild smile, "aren't they cute!?"

"Are we putting these on our tree?" Dakota pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to keep cool.

"Even better. We're gonna give 'em out as presents," Dalton beamed, resting his head on his hands as he propped them up on the table, "Gonna give 'em to friends and watch the chaos ensue."

Kurt and Blaine have booked another room at the inn. This time there are two beds, but when Kurt’s about to explain what Blaine’s role is in The Cooper Chronicles, Blaine sits down next to Kurt on Kurt’s bed.

“At the end of The Seed of Time, the first book, Cooper gets the news that his mother unexpectedly passed away.”

“It was because of the Pink Dagger.”

Kurt hums in agreement.

“True, but that doesn’t get revealed until A Dagger in the Back, the sixth book. So in the first book, it’s still written as if it’s an unexpected illness. And then there’s a time jump between the first and the second book, since all stories tend to take place in summer vacations.”

“So not even my birth was in these books?”

“Sorry.”

“Well. Holy shit.”

Kurt looks taken aback and laughs. Blaine picked up the holy shit thing from Kurt, and based on Kurt’s reaction, he used it at the right moment.

“I want you to know that your brother loves you,” Kurt suddenly says, sounding serious, “You two might not have been the closest, since there’s a gap in age and Cooper was busy being the Chosen One, but he does.”

“Okay?”

“But a lot of Cooper’s development in the second and third books was about you.”

“Oh?”

“Because he didn’t like you.”

“Oh?”

“But hear me out! He was afraid that the king remarrying and immediately getting a new son felt like he was quickly moving on from his mother, so he resented you for it, especially since Cooper wasn’t at home. He was either at the Knight Academy, or on a mission.”

“… Oh.”

Blaine doesn’t remember Cooper not liking him, because he was a baby, but it makes sense. And Blaine hates that it makes sense. Kurt is right, though. Cooper loves him. Cooper even loves Blaine’s mother. They’re a happy Royal family now, but that also means it sucks to hear that they weren’t always so happy.

“Cooper spent a lot of the second and third book processing his grief, and also dealing with his fear. By the time the fourth book happened, he started to really, really love you, because he realised you’re great and all the negative feelings were just his own projection. And by the time the eight book happened-”

“He saved me from the Pink Dagger.”

“Yes,” Kurt says, surprised.

“I was seven, so I remember it. The Pink Dagger tried to take over the castle. My parents and I were in hiding, but all separated. They didn’t want to give the Pink Dagger the chance to kill us all in one go. But he found me and probably killed the guards who guarded me.”

Blaine luckily didn’t witness that, since he was in hiding. But he remembers when the door opened and he expected a guard, but it was the Pink Dagger who came in.

“But Cooper and Arasha found us in time. Arasha took my hand and ran. Cooper fought him off on his own.”

Arasha brought Blaine to Eileen and he stayed with her until the castle was freed and the Pink Dagger had fled.

“We haven’t found book eight yet, and it will probably be the last, but you can read it and you can read how much Cooper loves you,” Kurt says, “The moment he figured out that the Pink Dagger was going after you, he lost it, and swore he’d do anything to save you.”

It’s heartwarming, sure, and Blaine is happy that Cooper’s love for him touched so many people in Kurt’s world, but it does mean that Blaine was indeed written for Cooper’s life. It’s a mixed feeling. Blaine is his own person, and his existence apparently means a lot to people, but he’s also created for a story purpose and for Cooper’s development.

“Why did B.D. Dalton choose this?” Blaine asks Kurt.

“Because she lifts a lot from her own life, and she also has a younger brother.”

“She?”

Is B.D. Dalton a woman? It never occurred to Blaine.

“Yes. She.”

Kurt flips one of the books so that Blaine can see the back. There’s a realistic portrait of a woman on the back cover.

“B.D. Dalton named the kingdom after herself, you’re named after her friend Blair, and Cooper is named after her dog.”

“A dog?”

Kurt nods.

“Don’t think too much about it.”

“But you said that the book series wasn’t always kind towards its women.” Or female characters, but the word character still feels off.

“Again, it’s a book series from the 90s, Blaine. There weren’t a lot of interesting women in books, especially for kids. B.D. Dalton copied the media landscape around her, even unconsciously, and I don’t blame her for that.”

Kurt’s face becomes serious.

“If the world doesn’t show you what you can be, you don’t know about it. I would know.”

Blaine waits for Kurt to tell him more, but he doesn’t. Instead Kurt moves back to Blaine’s question.

“But yeah, B.D. has a similar story. She lost her mother when she was young and her father quickly remarried, and her stepbrother was born soon after. By the time she wrote these books, she was an adult and was close with her brother, but she remembers feeling afraid and she wanted to write it so that kids in similar situations could use Cooper’s story to also give their own feelings a place, while also teaching them it’s okay to have a stepsibling. And as someone who lost his mother as well, it spoke to me.”

“You lost your mother?” Blaine asks with wide eyes. He didn’t know that.

“I did. I was eight, so younger than Cooper. I read these books when I was ten. My dad got them from the library for me, not knowing that this storyline was part of it, but I was glad.”

Blaine remembers that Kurt loved Cooper’s personality (or character), because even though Cooper’s a bit of an ass, he has deep and emotional moments (or storylines) that hit hard. This must be one of them.

“My dad didn’t remarry till I was a teen, and my stepbrother and I never had an age gap like this, but still, reading it as a kid was very comforting. It helped me remember that my dad will love me no matter what, even without my mom at his side.”

“That’s lovely,” Blaine says and he means it. He is a side character. That’s the truth, and it makes him feel uneasy, but he’s happy that his part of the storyline has moved Kurt.

“I am sorry you were still underdeveloped, but you were an important supporting character. You were very supportive to many.”

“But because I am underdeveloped, you don’t really know me like you know Arasha,” Blaine mutters.

“Are you jealous of Arasha?” Kurt says with a startled laugh.

“No!” Blaine answers quickly and looks away, but he definitely is. No one from Kurt’s world would ever be excited about Blaine the same way they’re excited about Cooper and his posse. Kurt didn’t even recognise him when he woke up.

“Oh Blaine,” Kurt says with a smile and he cups Blaine’s face. He turns Blaine’s face towards his and Blaine cannot lie.

“I’m glad to hear I at least had a purpose, but who am I really?” Blaine laments, “I am nothing more than a background character in my brother’s story. Do I have a personality beyond that? Do I have dreams, aspirations, a Passion? Has B.D. Dalton ever thought about those things?”

“… I’m sorry,” is all that Kurt says, which means no. No. Apart from Blaine’s role, B.D. Dalton didn’t put any thought into him. Is that why he’s so adrift in life?

Back when Blaine was in denial about The Cooper Chronicles, he could pretend that it wasn’t so. But now he knows it’s real.

Blaine pushes Kurt’s hand from his face.

“I’m going to bed.”

“Blaine-”

Kurt reaches for him, but Blaine moves away. He gets off the bed and makes his way to the bathroom.

“Not now, please. I- I need time to think.”

“Of course,” Kurt says quietly, “Good night.”

“Good night, Kurt.”

End notes: I never actually gave B.D. Dalton a name. I chose this name on a whim and it's very obvious what inspired it. B.D. are Blaine's initials and Dalton is... Dalton. This led to an unplanned red herring, but oops, B.D. was never supposed to be Blaine. I actually didn't have any ideas about what the B and D stand for, but my mind came up with the atrocious combination of Beatrice Denise (both fine names, but together it sounds a bit much), or Bea Dee for short.

"Is...is that my shirt?" Dalton Castle asked as he watched his tag team partner through the Skype call that they were currently on. With the world shut down, Joe Hendry had been forced to go back home to Scotland while Dalton found himself so isolated. He was a being that needed other beings, be they friends or lovers or even just his Boys. It was starting to wear on his soul.

The shirt was the last straw.

"Does it look like a Planet Peacock shirt?" Joe raised an eyebrow, sitting back in his gaming chair. He ran a hand over the black t-shirt adorned with a pink heart under which an upside down crown sat. Arrows pierced through the heart with the words Head Over Heels written across it. "Nae, nae. I dinnae think this is a Peacock shirt."

"No, no it's a Head Over Heels shirt. I got it when I saw the musical! It's been missing and 𝐲𝐨𝐮 stole it!" Dalton huffed, sitting on the counter behind him in the kitchen, "How 𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐞 you!"

"Oi, come off it," scoffed Joe with a roll of his eyes, "Yer nae mad a' me. How can ye be mad a' me?"

"You 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐥𝐞 my shirt! How can't I be mad at you?" Dalton crossed his arms over his chest, "That's how I can be-"

"I'm wearing it cause I miss ye, bird!"

There it was, the admission out in the open. Joe missed him. Joe missed him enough to be wearing one of his shirts. One of his 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 shirts. "Oh...I..."

"It still smells like ye and..and if even for a minute I can pretend tha'...tha' yer here then I..." Joe wouldn't look at the camera anymore, but Dalton could hear the tears. Joe was a jovial man, the same as Dalton. It had never once occurred to him that if he was struggling from lack of people, then how was this effecting Joe?

"You can pretend the world isn't falling down around you? Around us?" Dalton supplied in an effort to show his tag team partner, his friend, that he understood. "You know...it's okay just to say you're not okay."

"One of us has tae be okay, Dalton," Joe gave a teary eyed laugh, "and somethin' tells me tha' is nae ye."

Dalton's eyes lit up brightly as Dakota pulled the car up in front of the white barn shaped building with the bright yellow lettering on top. He may have been out with injury, but while his husband was in the States, Dalton had decided to tag along on the road with him. Dakota was getting ready to do Wrestling Revolver in Ohio and had told Dalton that he had a surprise for him. His bright eyed and face pressed against the car window was proof that Dalton was indeed surprised.

"Cheesebarn?" Dalton's voice was full of excitement, practically bouncing in the passengers seat.

Dakota cut the cars engine off, reaching to hold his partner's hand, "Figured you could use a pick-me-up, baby boy. Matt recommended it."

Dalton leaned across to peck Dakota on the cheek, "You are the 𝑏𝑒𝑠𝑡 Kota. The 𝑏𝑒𝑠𝑡."

The two made their way through the heavy door of the shop and Dalton's eyes scanned the shop. Jerky, local jams and honeys, chocolates. This place had everything, including a little cafe that Dalton planned on eating at as soon as they finished their shopping. While everything seemed nice and he would absolutely be picking up some jerky for the road, Dalton was much more interested in the wares upstairs.

That's where the cheese lived.

From wall to wall, warm and cold cheeses lined shelves and coolers. There were so many different blends and variants, at least one hundred to try. Dalton didn't know where to begin as Dakota put a hand gently on his lower back, "Well? Where do we start? This is your treat."

Dalton chewed his lower lip, eyes scanning the room as he tried to figure something out. Did he want to start with the curds or did he start with the cheese spreads? In the end, he decided to start on the left hand side and circle the room. There was not a kind of cheese that went untouched and though Dalton limited himself to buying only four blends to take on the road, he felt fuller than he had ever felt. He almost couldn't imagine going downstairs to the cafe to eat.

Almost.

Dalton had ordered the classic grilled cheese, pepperjack to be exact, while Dakota had decided on the Monte Cristo. Instead of sitting in the cafe, they had decided to take their food to the lake on property. The two sat on the grass together, Dalton with his head in Dakota's lap as they ate their lunches. Dakota beamed down at his partner, glad at just how happy with the days events he looked. There had been a time in both men's where this only would have been enjoyable if Dalton had a glass of wine and Dakota a beer. Now? Now they could be happy with just themselves. "This hits the spot," Dalton beamed around a mouthful of his sandwhich.

"It really does," Kota chuckle, palms on the ground behind him and eyes gazing across the lake, "it really does."

Post-Michael thru Season 4, Blaine’s just a little unwell, and it’s not long before everyone can tell. Physical and Mental illness. Hurt/Comfort. If Robin Cook wrote for Glee and General Hospital, the story would probably go like this. Universe Expansion for Seasons 3 and 4 wherein I add some elements to canon and leave some out but manage to get everyone back to place where they can still have the endings they got in canon. Honestly, I just wanted to write H/C, but the more I hurt Blaine, the more I realized he wasn’t going to handle that very well, so I added in diagnosed mental illness. All in all, it’s everything I love to read in fic all in one epic story, just in case I don’t ever get the chance to write these characters again.

This summer is either going to be a fairy tale come true, or result in multiple diplomatic catastrophes.Inspired by Meg Cabot’s Princess Diaries series and the movie adaptations, but no background knowledge is needed to understand the fic.

Blaine gets hit by a taxi and ends up in the hospital - so naturally, as his best friend and long-standing roommate, Kurt visits him at every possible opportunity until he gets to come home.

It only takes a couple of visits before Kurt notices something impossibly endearing: the beeping of Blaine’s heart rate monitor speeds up whenever his friends come to visit. At least, Kurt assumes it happens with all of Blaine’s friends, until Sam has no idea what he’s talking about.

tl;dr I’m really struggling to find my place in the pro-wrestling fandom.

(disclaimer: I’ve been taking a break from twitter and tumblr for the past couple of months so I don’t know anything about any recent iwc drama, what’s been going on in the dirt sheets or even the more legitimate wrestling news sources. i’ve been on tiktok some but unless it’s a ship or thirst edit, i hardly watch any posts on wrestle-tok.)

i feel like all i ever see in the wrestling fandom is people talking about how everything sucks. how terrible the product is. don’t get me wrong, people should be free to criticize pop-culture no matter the genre or medium. there is absolutely a LOT of problematic things in the industry that should be called out publicly.

it’s just, that seems to be all there is. wrestling makes me happy. i want to be in a community with other fans who are made happy by it too.

maybe it’s because i’m too used to the typical tv/movie/book fandoms. while i will jump at the chance to tell anyone who will listen how there is no greater performance art than wrestling, that is more “real” than marvel or star wars (which i both love) or any other popular franchise, that no “method actor” in hollywood comes close to what pro wrestlers do year round… but at it’s core it’s still about stories and characters and that’s the way i tend to approach it.

i want to have thoughtful discussions about current storylines like how luchasaurus is showing signs that he is breaking free from christian’s influence, theorize the possible motivations he had for choosing christian over jungleboy to begin with. i want to talk about how dalton castle is spiraling under the weight he’s put on his own shoulders to save ring of honor. i want to talk about the new version of warhorse and what led him to feel he had to change everything about who he was. my shipper heart wants to explore why jay white mentioned his “destino” only days before naito finally main evented wrestle kingdom. i want to read pages of meta about past arcs like the corruption of brandon cutler from his time with peter avalon where he refused to cheat to his becoming the “stooge” for the young bucks.

i am tired of “booking” and “pushes” and “ratings.” yes, i am aware that that is just as much a part of wrestling as the characters and the storylines. it’s just, for right now at least, i want wrestling to be a place where i can escape and lose myself in kayfabe just like i would in any other fictional world.

there’s just so much real life awfulness going on in both the world at large and in my own personal life, i want to be able to stay away from negativity in the things that bring me joy. and while it has been refreshing to just watch wrestling on tv without knowing about any of the back stage bullshit, i am longing for a community to discuss the things i love about it. i have a handful of wonderful non-wrestling friends who are always happy to let me word-vomit about what’s happening in kayfabe, but it isn’t the same as being able to have conversations with people who have the same knowledge and enthusiasm for the stories and characters as i do.

i just wonder if there is such a place in this fandom for me. or if that’s just not how wrestling fandom works. or if that’s how all fandoms are these days. admittedly, i’m a fandom old. i started out in fandom reading fics from yahoo mailing lists i accessed on dial-up internet.

anyways, i just needed to get this out. if anyone has any advice or thoughts about this, i welcome them, but please be patient if i don’t reply right away as i’m still not ready to be back on tumblr regularly.
