"One silly little pirate wasn't enough in my life, now there are two! Lucky me. Or unfortunate you; whatever you prefer. That face of yours though... did the other kids refuse to play with you and that's why you got that look on your face? Poor little fella." / kalla @ shamrock; see, she was nice.
Kallaneri strikes again Always Accepting @alyafae
Most people are smart enough to avoid him, or pay him the appropriate respect as he strolls through the streets of the small island. There had been word his younger twin had been here not to long ago, but he couldn't find a trace. Until that insolent voice spoke up.
The woman with the bright pink hair can't be overlooked, especially with that smug smile she was wearing. He wanted to wipe it off her face with Cerberus.
As much as he hated to get compared to pirate filth, it showed she had seen Shanks, or knew him at least. That damned disgrace of their family.
Her insolence clearly knows no bounds. And his face twists in disgusts at her mocking words. In a way it reminds him off Gunkos teasing, which was bad enough in itself. And he was glad the fellow Gods Knight wasn't with him or he would never hear the end of it from her.
"I shouldn't be surprised that no one bothered to teach vermin any manners or how to pay respect to those who are superior." Which he was in every way.
His steps are measured as he walks towards her, one hand on Cerberus hilt. He appeared calm and collected, despite being riled up by her words and insults on the inside.
"But don't worry about my expression. I shall smile when your blood is spilled all over this wretched place."

HSHQTASK059: FAREWELL !
i know i already yapped in the admin post but let me continue <3
1: when did you join ? what made you join ? what do you remember from the plotlines that were current at the time ? where were you in life when you joined and where are you now ?
i joined in 2015 as a high school freshman, jfc ! i don't think there was anything major going on, the rp was very much a rich kids rp so the drama was chill and petty; entertaining but not that deep. one thing that made me join ( aside from my obsession with royals ) was the fact that phoebe tonkin - THE most popular fc at the time - was up for grabs. i thought it was meant to be !
2: which characters have you written over the years ?
errrmmm... merjem/kalla, olivier, livia, florencio, alexander, anneli, lixun, nicole, maryam, blazej, definitely some other characters whose names and existence i cannot remember
3: what is your favourite plotline that you've been part of ?
i think this is just nostalgia but i think olivier-viggo-armani-lykke-anton-etc era was my fave. artistically it's very hollow but i think the lightness of it all makes it my favourite. i also sort of view it as a testament of my own naivety and youth. i'm not saying i'm old now but i'm not 17 without a single worry. back then ( because i wasn't busy and i could sat in front of my computer for hours ) the plots moved quickly and the threads were really fun to follow. there weren't that many characters so everyone was, in a way, forced to write with each other so the plotlines were very interactive. i appreciate the organic way things evolved. ( i do have a soft spot for annexei but i think it's mainly bc i admire alexei's characterization so much and elisa's ability to depict depression )
4: what about other people's plotlines ?
i was insanely invested in the zulu conflict of 2020. it had so many moving parts and i think if it had only gotten a chance to evolve even further, it would have been on a whole new level <3
5: who is your favourite character from the ones you've played ? why ? what made you love them ? what made them so fun to write ?
i think nicole or olivier. nicole's plotline was so well defined that it was fun to write her. i loved her relationships and it was interesting to write someone older. i think she's a character i could write a book about but she wasn't the best for an rp setting ? getting a chance to be involved in the english drama was wonderful ! olivier on the other hand... i think he's just a fave because he lets me connect to the old days ? when rp was a top priority and everything was exciting and fun. i don't want this to sound like it isn't that anymore but times were different back then and i don't think it ever felt the same after maybe high school graduation ?
6: if you could relive a plotline, which would it be ?
i think the finale of the english plotline maybe ? or the insanity of the lawn chair thing. possibly the rise of olykke too <3 but honestly i would like to experience all of it again, as cliche as it sounds. i will very think of the nights i stayed up until 4 or 5 am just to write/read the dash. waiting for a reply was such an addictive feeling and idk where i'll find my replacement for it. it really breaks my heart and makes me feel very old to realize that i don't know if i'll experience the excitement again. those sleep-deprived nights were some of my best. i've said "it's just rp" a million times but honestly, rping itself is such an experience and i'm glad i've gotten to get the best version of it.
7: is there a plotline that you'd edit now if you could ?
i think i'd improve the kalla era's germany. i didn't do much with it.
8: what's a plotline you wish you would have been able to finish before closing or just write more of ?
i would have loved to finish aurel x araya story, i mean i can probably still accomplish that but nbskdgbjs there were big plans for the slovakians and it's a shame we never got to write it out on the dash. i think i would have enjoyed writing the inner struggle of blazej. he had a lot of potential but alas, it could not be !
9: what is your favourite ooc memory ?
i have two that stick out but my trip with serre ? we were on my sister's couch writing the stupid lawn chair saga and i think it was the first time in a long time that i had that much fun writing ! the second one would be me visiting evy because it was a surreal experience and i have to admit i was so socially awkward that evy's family probably thinks i'm weird nfgbkdsgbj i just think it's amazing that those two meetings could happen ? prior to hshq, i hadn't really believed in online friendships, everyone felt just too remote ! a special mention goes to this crackthread thing we wrote: link just a random memory though: i remember when we did those feedback surveys. we sorta forgot them but they were so important at that one point. other funny thing is our old adminooc blog. snapchat replaced it and then some years later discord replaced snapchat. we should bring the admin snapchat back btw @armanicatherina & @barbiebraganca
10: where can others find you if they want to get in touch ?
i'll be on discord !!! you can find me on the hshq server ( which we aren't deleting if i can have a say ;) )
11: what else would you like to say ?
i said a lot in the admin post but i actually had to "keep it short" so here i will say so many things that you wish i had edited this. for me rping has been an amazing way to connect with other people, learn about people through writing and to experience emotions that i wouldn't otherwise. some of the words i've read here have managed to capture thoughts that i hadn't been able to put into words and it's been amazing to see how differently people think but also how alike some feelings among different people are. i often try to wrap my head around the fact that this group's been going for eight amazing years. i've gone through a lot in those eight years and the existence of this group has brought me a lot of joy. i am sad to let go of it and i guess i'm in a bit of denial because i keep thinking that 1x1 rping exists and y'know... even if a group doesn't exist, threads can still happen. when i think about hshq and the plotlines i've read and written, one thing really sticks out to me and it's the way we shifted from a p basic rich kids rp into something intricate and sophisticated ( yes, we had a drug related nye event and we've had a fair share of petty fights ). the range of emotions people have been able to write and the psychological work they've done to write a convincing and very realistic humans is something everyone can be proud of. i don't know if i look like a sadist but i was most impressed by the depictions of sadness, guilt and self-loathing. in my opinion it's not easy to write a piece of sad prose without it being a bit melodramatic. aside from hshq's longevity, the most amazing thing has to be everyone's willingness to get involved. the plot drops that i wrote wouldn't have happened without your input and when it got too tough for me to write them myself, y'all stepped up and continued the plotdrops with your newsposts. as an admin, it's been so so so so so awesome that we've been able to put some responsibilities on the members and have you guys perform better than well. i think we did something unique here and i'm so proud of us as a group!!!! i wish i could flex about this irl because hshq's history and way of working is something extraordinary. i really wish i could properly put my love for hshq into words. i don't know how to express its meaning and influence in my life. i feel like it has helped me to improve my writing but more importantly it has taught me a thing of two about empathy <3 i really hope we'll stay in touch and if anyone comes to europe, or more spesifically finland, don't be afraid to message me bc i'd love to meet up !

for anon! the top four stripes of each flag are from the character and the bottom two represent their gender. the terms are 'leshy', 'boy', + 'lamb'; 'heket', 'girl', + 'lamb'; 'kalla' from 'kallamar', 'boy', + 'ic'; 'shamur' from 'shamura', 'enby', + 'ic'; 'narin' from 'narinder', 'boy', + 'ic'; and 'lamb', 'gen' and 'less' from 'genderless', + 'ic'!
(the leshy and heket terms use 'lamb' as a suffix to denote that i'm talking specifically about the cotl characters, since their names are also the names of mythological figures.)

Fiasco At the Dragon’s Nest Act 1 Secen 1 - Kalla (setup)
Previously I posted about running Fiasco as a solo game. As there was some interest, I have decided to turn this into an Actual Play report. It may also help keep me motivated to complete the game.
As each scene focuses on a different character, I’ll do the work of introducing them in their scene. But before I do that I need to cover the Adventure Crafter theme table.
The Adventure Crafter tries to keep the general narrative focused on a specific theme. Each time I generate a plot point, I combine a theme with the plot point. All Adventure Crafter games use the same theme, but in a different order, with a different chance of having the plot point pulled from that theme’s list.
For Fiasco at the Dragon’s Nest, this was the table I rolled up.
In theory, the game should have a focus on social interaction with mystery themes, some action sprinkled in but not a lot of personal introspection and tension-building elements.
Introducing Kalla
Kalla is the focal character for the first scene. According to the D&D generator I used, Kalla is a Githzerai Cleric (Twilight Domain) and a Gladiator. The generator also gives a random assortment of other details for the character:
Occupation: Academic
Trait: Hopeless romantic, always searching for that special someone.
Bond: He would do anything for the other members of his old troupe.
Flaw: Despite my best efforts, I am unreliable to my friends.
Secret: In times of despair, he feels that he is but a plaything of the gods, and he resents their remoteness.
High Ability: Dexterity - lithe, agile, graceful
Mannerism: Squints
Values: Logic (Lawful), Out for revenge.
Flaw or Secret: Overpowering greed.
Fiasco Bonds
Fiasco gives each character a relationship between two other characters.
In this case he has a bond with Urak, a female kobold ranger. His relationship with Urak is… Romantic, but it’s on the rocks. Between them is also a Need, To get to The Truth… about why they did what they did to you.
He also has a bond with “Snake” Mountain Tree, a female Tabaxi bard and member of the city watch. This relationship is… also romantic with a side order of loathing. Oh dear. There is also a need between them to get respect from the one you hate. Fitting, I guess.
More details about these two characters will come in later scenes. This one is all about Kalla.
So how did the scene play out? Take a look at the next post to find out.

by Macey Levin
Hello, Dolly!, an American classic, is receiving a terrific revival on Broadway with Bette Midler. It is also receiving a terrific revival at Chatham, New York’s Mac-Haydn Theatre with a marvelous Dolly and a spirited and talented cast.
Based on Thornton Wilder’s The Matchmaker, the original production, directed by Gower Champion, opened in 1964 and ran for 2844 performances, closing in 1970. Dolly Gallagher Levi has become Carol Channing’s signature role; at one time or another she was followed by Ethel Merman, Ginger Rogers, Martha Raye, Betty Grable and Pearl Bailey among others. A movie starring Barbra Streisand and directed by Gene Kelly in 1969 didn’t match the charm or artistry of the original.
The story, taking place in the late 19th century, centers around widowed matchmaker Dolly’s pursuit of Horace Vandergelder, Yonkers, New York’s “half-a-millionaire.” As she conspires to get him to propose, three younger couples find their own romance and, of course, everything ends happily.
With a book by Michael Stewart and Jerry Herman’s music and lyrics, Mac-Haydn’s production is a gem. At the opening performance the first few minutes felt somewhat tentative, but after Monica M. Wemitt gives us a charmingly conniving Dolly with “I Put My Hand In,” the show flies with dazzling choreography by Sebastiani Romagnalo and sparkling staging by director John Saunders.
Herman’s score includes the show’s incomparable title song (and Louis Armstrong’s biggest popular hit) as well as other effective but not as highly reputed numbers. In particular, there are the wistful “Ribbons Down My Back” sung beautifully by the milliner Irene Molloy (Rachel Rhodes-Devey) and “Before the Parade Passes By” opened by a reflective Dolly then expanding to a rousing, exciting showstopper that includes the entire cast. “Put on Your Sunday Clothes” sung by Cornelius Hackl (Ryan Michael Owens,) Barnaby Tucker (Dan Hacke) and the entire company is one of Romagnalo’s most imaginative dance numbers. The “Waiter’s Gallop” which leads into “Hello, Dolly” is almost beyond belief in its complexity and integration of movement.
Wemitt’s Dolly is delicious and shrewd as she invents little lie after little lie to ensnare Vandergelder or to assist his niece Ermengarde (Catherine Skojec) and the love of her life Ambrose Kemper (Dakota Dutcher) to get the uncle’s permission to marry. Vandergelder is played by Brian D. Wagner. As with the first scene of the show he began somewhat tentatively but allowed his cantankerous character come through as the “half-millionaire” loses control of the world around him. The major sub-plot is the budding romance between Irene and Cornelius which is beautifully delivered in their duet “It Only Takes a Moment.” Barnaby is smitten with Irene’s assistant Minnie Fay (Steffany Pratt.) These six performers shine, not only with their electric voices and dancing, but their characterizations are solid all the way through. The entire cast, numbering over 30, are focused. Many of them play several parts and their energy never seems to lapse. This is a cast that loves what they are doing.

Director Saunders keeps the rapid pace of the show under control. Each moment means something and contributes to the writers’ intentions. He has maintained both a sense of comedy and a recognition of the dramatic subtext of the play. Enough cannot be said of choreographer Romagnola’s work. To move this huge number of dancers across the relatively small playing space while interacting with the principal characters is a model of vision and theatricality. The small band, led by David Maglione, is energetc and musically adept, though sometimes too brassy; but that’s part of the show.
There is a multitude of rich and historically correct costumes designed by Bethany Marks that bring color and vibrancy to the stage. This is a gorgeous production to look at thanks to her. Andrew Gmoser’s lighting design complements and subtly adds to the tone of each scene. The sets by Kevin Gleason are minimal since the Mac-Haydn is a theatre-in-the-round, but they identify locations simply and effectively. The set changes, of which there are many, are cleverly integrated with the musical numbers so that there aren’t minutes of dead air.
About the Mac-Haydn… The phrase “summer stock” suggests amateurish productions or a nominally successful Broadway personality deigning to work with a young, often non-professional cast. The Mac-Haydn uses creative integrity to bring quality productions to its audience. The performers, designers and technicians are given the opportunity to test their talents in a space that presents logistical problems. It is to the credit of the producers as well as the creative personnel that Mac-Haydn offers enjoyable and provocative entertainment.
If you want to smile and laugh and fully treasure the experience, don’t walk, don’t run… fly to see Hello, Dolly! at the Mac-Haydn in Chatham!

"Hey Shanks, do you wanna meet my pet Stevie?" / Kalla says hi c:
The bane of his existence Always Accepting @alyafae

While the sea was calm, it was also unbearable hot. There was no cloud in the sky, and they could be glad that there was at least a gentle breeze going, allowing them to continue sailing. It would have been a nightmare having to use the rudder, given the temperatures.
Shanks himself had sought comfort in the shade of the palm trees, laying in a hammock and hoping they would see land in the distance soon, or that it would cool down somewhat.
The sound of a familiar voice pulls him out of his thoughts and he turns to see Kallaneri leaning over the railing, wearing a mischievous smile. And knowing her, it meant nothing good, for him at least.
Slightly suspicious the emperor rolled out of his hammock, making his way over to the siren. "Stevie is not a sea king by any chance now, is he?" He honestly wouldn't put it past her. Grey eyes look over the water, seeing no disturbance.

The gesture is a sweet one and yet it feels like some kind of threat. Sirens sure were one of a kind.
