Pet Peeves: "I've Never Been With A Black Girl Before"
And obviously you’ve never spoken to a black girl before either if this is one of the first things you say to a black girl.
“Nothing to see here, pal. Just keep moving along,” I reply. Or at least that’s what I feel like saying when I am approached this way.
Seriously, are men that unaware of how many times different ethnic women (African, Asian, Arab, Latin, etc) hear this sort of thing on a yearly basis?
If you are just discovering your attraction to a woman of another race, please never say something along those lines to her unless she asks you first. I for one, would not like to be defined as a person and what I can offer a man, relationship-wise, based primarily on my race.
I don’t think any woman does. We want to be spoken to as people first. And we don’t want your attention primarily focused on our physical attributes, since we actually do have more to offer than that.
“Hey dude, are you interested in me or my race/skin tone?”
My race? Well here’s some news for you: I, in particular, won’t cater to any stereotypes of the wild and aggressive black female, who will give you the time of your life. I won’t be your darker berry, or the one who makes you never go back to any other race. I don’t care how you drink your coffee. And yes I am a strong black woman, but I want a man.
I respect my culture, I represent my culture, but I do not speak for all black women and all black women do not speak for me.
Besides, no matter what my color is, I’m still a woman first. I still have the same organs, emotions, and wishes that women of all races/nationalities have.
If you are simply here to point out my physical differences and set up your standards based solely on them, then keep moving mister.
When I hear this, 95% from white guys who don’t know that I am approached by white guys 98% of the time, I feel like they are looking at me like I’m a shiny new toy. They want to play with me, “figure me out” (so they think), classify all black girls based on their experience with me, then toss me aside and go back to what they are normally used to. So when I hear this, I see it as a warning sign. I don’t find your naivety cute or flattering in the least.
It’s just as bad as the guys who immediately point out that they love black girls. “Hey you, black girl. I love black girls!”
Zing!
I’m really happy for you, and I’m glad you like black girls and all, despite the fact that you don’t know if you’ll like this black girl, and Imma let you finish…
but that doesn’t make you special. Billions of guys find that they like black women.
I’m not a black shiny new sports car that’s just waiting for you to test drive and bring back to the dealership after you’re done.
I actually want more than that and value relationships and I actually look beyond race.
I mean, I can understand, you’re shocked that you find someone who looks like me attractive and think you might have a chance, but keep that to yourself and refrain from making me sound like an object.
Then you just might get beyond one conversation.
