2023 Character Wrapped

9 characters I loved in 2023: - first row are characters i've met this year and became one of my favs: sakuragi (slam dunk), revy (black lagoon), midorima (kuroko's basketball) - second row are characters who just live in my head rent free: jolyne (jojo's bizarre adventure), gintoki (gintama), kogami (psycho pass) - third row are my fav characters from anime that returned this year: asta (black clover), ranpo (bungo stray dogs), ryusui (dr. stone)

@seepmost OHHH that's really hard ...... i think going off sheer in-the-moment emotional impact i'd have to say duet. i was crouching on my chair instead of sitting down in it or doing anything else normal by the end of the episode bc it was making me lose my mind so much. so in terms of writing quality that's top notch. progress also made me feel similarly ....... but the episodes i return to the most in my mind are the pilot and necessary evil. i think about necessary evil every single day of my life if we're being honest here

I love the ambiguous ending of Alan Wake 2. This might be because I interpreted it optimistically, but the reveal that Alice is still around and has been the one helping Alan and Saga in the dark place was incredible after the despair of seeing her last video messages. and for that to lead to Alan (and the player) realizing it’s not a loop, but a spiral—that he’s not doomed to forever be trapped, but that he can rise out of this. This acknowledgment by Alan was the first step towards that ascension, rather than spiraling into further self-destruction. It might not have been a definite answer, but it was hopeful.

The Logan phone call cliffhanger was painful to end at, but for the same hopeful reasons and Saga having battled the dark place amplifying her existing doubts and anxieties, I’m choosing to believe Logan is safe! I still want more answers in the future, since multiple people are now in the dark place and characters like Mr. Door and Zane remain mysterious, but I like that this game wasn’t as clear as ’Alan escapes the dark place.’ It was an exploration of what the dark place is (to different people), being an artist, self-destruction and doubt, and so much more. Despite the first and second game both ending in the dark place, the journey and development the characters went through made a world of difference for what could possibly come next.

With the remaster of season 3 coming out soon I feel the need to tell any new fans or people interested in the series that there are a lot of Really Terrible Jokes (read as: Offensive) in the sam and max series. Like especially in the telltale games. I feel like if someone wanted a feel for the characters before getting tossed in to All Of That the best introduction would be This Time It's Virtual or *maybe* Hit the Road (I can't recall any too bad Jokes in that one but it was made in the 1990s so). I'd suggest the cartoon but at least with the games there's none of the stuff that happens in the Literal First Episode of the show. But season 3 goes hard and unfortunately has a lot of callbacks to prev seasons so I can't entirely discount them.

Me: Mildly worried that my sister bought me the Mr. Roger's Neighborhood card game for Christmas. Sure, it's supposedly for adults, but it still implies I'm childish. I have slightly more nostalgia for the series than the rest of the family, but it's not like it was ever a major part of my personality, so it's slightly offensive that she thought of me as the obvious recipient for this gift.

Also me: Why is there no Anna Platypus card in this deck?? How do Officer Clemmons and Henrietta Cow get billing over the entire Platypus family??
