nightbringer has reawakened my love for obey me! when i first started OM, one of my things was deducing what demons brothers are subs and now i know my answer is all of them. might expand on this later!!

mammon: mommy kink. it's canon, trust me. mams is so down bad for his mommy. a service sub w bratty tendencies but his dick always wins the battle between continuing to be difficult or being obedient and cumming. loves when you pull him by the hair no matter the context. to get his attention? yes. making out? obviously. forcing him to look at you while he's on his knees? the dumb baby might cum in his pants.

I can also totally imagine Levi being SUPER hyped, he defo sends them SO many compilation videos of the character they play that was made by fans, a few times they notice the compilations have a clip or two that they didn’t know was caught on camera, like them spilling something on themselves or tripping. it’s just a tiny bit embarrassing, but they get over it because they can’t stop giggling over the fact that the fandom put squeaky toy sounds over them whenever they do something,(they got bbg-ified and the only thing they can do is giggle😔)

also, getting to walk down the rest carpet?? Dude I can just imagine them smiling so hard, baffled and excited that they get to be there! The brothers+other charas definitely buy tickets to go see them, mams probably snaps a few pictures pretending to be paparazzi to get closer(who knows he might actually sell the pics like paparazzi) and mc just entertains him and strikes a few poses, also I can’t NOT imagine Luci just having a proud mom/dad(idk which to call him the man gave BIRTH) moment, corny mf frames one of the pictures of them on the red carpet in the HOL. I could also imagine that if whatever they acted in was a live action of a book, s8n would definitely give them suggestions for what they could act like/do for their character to be more true to the book, he also internally freaks out whenever something from the book is perfectly reenacted. &Asmo may or may not cringe sometimes at the costume choices made for mc, so he chimes in with things that they could suggest to be changed! i just know that beel is often questioning what kind of food they’re eating behind set and what it’s like and asking if they could just please please please sneak him one of those super big muffins- speaking of which, I know his other half would probably tease mc sometimes for it, but it’s never really serious ofc, he thinks they do a fantastic job! But he can’t let them know that before he tells them that they looked like a chicken in that one scene where their character got scared,

Good evening loves! We made it to July! To Celebrate, here are some August prompts. This prompt list is inspired by the always amazing, @imagining-in-the-margins, who always make the best prompt lists. I won’t write for all of my prompts, but I might for a few. I decided to go with a theme for these August Promts and it is Back to School, and there are a few in here that I am very excited about. Many of these I imagine that team in high school or college, but you can write these however you like! I realize that many of these are more specific than some of my other prompt lists, so feel free to expand or change the prompts if you like, or make up your own! 

The rules for using these prompts are that there are no rules! Characters A and B meet each other for the first time when they share a dorm room. 

Character A and Character B are in biology together and Character A agrees to tutor Character B. 

The BAU faces an Unsub that’s targeting kids walking home from school. 

Characters A and B are rivals on the speech and debate team, when they are put on the same team, they have to work out their differences. 

A case that deals with a drug dealer dealing to college kids, but ends in murder. 

Character A goes to a college party for the first time and sees the cutest person ever, Character B. 

A member of the BAU gets obsessed with a J-Drama and starts packing the team bento boxes with their favorite foods. 

Character A wants to rush for a sorority and talks to Character B about it.

Character A thought bullying would be only for their teens, but it seems to have followed them to the BAU. When Character B finds out about it, they take the issue personally. 

Character A is running late for a team meeting and feels like they are running late to school. 

The BAU takes silly photos like picture day at school.

Character A is attending the FBI academy and finds their lecturer, Character B attractive. 

A friend and old classmate of Character A becomes an Unsub, pulling Character A and the team into their past. 

Character A thought they’d have sex in high school, then college, and now that Character B is going there, they have to tell the truth. Character B is very understanding, as they’re in the same situation.  

After losing a bet, Character A has to take the ACT as a punishment.

Vega believes that by going by a new name, she was able to shed the vilest parts of herself. As far as she is concerned, Lovisa died on earth, in a remote forest, screaming her throat raw with ghost and man alike. This obviously isn't the case, unfortunately: now it's Vega that wakes up from night terrors, freezes at certain mannerisms and words, stares holes into blank spots yards away. The only truth is that she's older now, with more control over herself (some, in any case) and a tendency to repress.

three things your character likes doing in their free time:

Painting. The one every knows, because it's her thing. If she can't paint, she'll sketch or doodle. This is also a sort of idle habit for her.

Sudoku. Shocking that the astrophysics nerd would enjoy logic game. Yet she does, and she can spend hours going through the gazillions of puzzle books she's amassed.

Solitude in nature. That doesn't happen so much anymore, though when she's planetside, she enjoys exploring and discovering the local fauna and flora.

eight people your character likes / loves: She doesn't even have eight in her life RIP, unless one counts the augments in general. That's more of a general I love my people/kin/crew than anyone too specific.

Ming Long: Her first love, on Earth in the 90s. Vega lost her to the war, and it planted the seed that lead to her resentment of humanity.

Levi: Her brother, for better or worse. While he's mostly a thorn in her side, she does love him. After all, he's gone through most of the same awful things she has., even if they cope with it in very different ways.

Most other characters are verse dependent (@rickgrimesdoingrickthings, @vuulpecula, @respondedinkind specifically :p). She doesn't get attached to others very easily.

two things your character regrets:

In a way, she regrets her relationship with her brother. She wishes that she could have been a better sibling to him, helping him instead of closing herself off, and essentially leaving him to be as lonely as she felt. That's why she lets him into her life so often, speaking solely for modern verses, because she's trying to make up for something she really hadn't actually done.

In her main verse, she eventually regrets her distrust of Khan's vision, of having even toyed with the notion of betrayal-- or even of defection. It's a point where she's able to self-reflect and realize that her own ideas were invariably flawed. Whether she realizes this too late or not depends on the thread/verse, of course. :p

two phobias your character has:

Choosing two of the least intense/trigger worthy (she needs therapy ;_; ).

Monophobia: the fear of being alone. Strange, as she prefers solitude, yet cannot reconcile the idea of losing everyone around her.

Trypanophobia: the fear of needles, particularly in a medical setting.

idk if louis decided he was gonna ditch lestat, grace might've accepted him back although the freaky non-aging yeah by that point would've been an issue but i guess psychologically for louis with her around, there was still some hope that he could get out? but once she's gone its like that door is fully closed in his mind too

this falls into the fan issue of seeing black female characters as ever generous empty vessels of servitude for black males/female charas of nonblack varieties w/ no interiority or capacity for any complex human emotion when no. thats not how grace is with louis. grace is convinced by ep4 id say + seals the belief in ep5 when she leaves that her older brother [metaphorically or literally] died somewhere along the way+ was replaced by an evil gay demon. this may sound hyperbolic, but she literally says ur not my louis and buries him. how else can u interpret that lol. she has a complex relationship with her brother that degrades throughout season 1, and in no way can i see canon show! grace being some unconditionally loving confidante to her battered gay brother, vampire or not. she made no indication of disapproving of paul being in the asylum, or disapproving of louis's illicit dealings, its only once louis diverges from being a provider for the dulacs, and comes by in the night/if at all, that grace starts to resent her brother. let black women be complex characters. and like one of my other anons said as i attached below

louis himself, is prideful as he is tormented.. even in the modern day, he does not self identify as a victim at the very least, for the purposes of daniel's writing + for reasons ive described time + time again, so what makes u think a 1920s-30s lou after being beat would go to his baby sister if she stayed in town somehow? like i said, being part of the historical great migration/s makes a lot of sense for grace + levi's characters. whether louis isnt paying out, or grace is refusing louis's money [lol u aint had no problem when big bro was a trick but now that white daddy pay the bills u aint touchin dat money? who knows]. outside of that theres very few opportunities for the freniere-dulacs, used to their former conditional opulence in the treme, in this here jim crow south outside of going up north. do recall that years before, louis hid the fact that papa du lac was boutta drive their family into destitution for years, even from his own mother, and especially from his younger sister. if we take the pilot draft describing grace as 22 or the books, this means grace is decently younger than show!louis. when he ran away from lestat in ep3 before finding claudia, he didnt go to the treme where his sister + then alive mother was, but to the old poor black neighborhoods, seeking absolution in an abstract sense for his self perceived wrongs, and bringing that redemption to lestat. to be turned, to live forever, to love him in a way his born family could not. eps 2-3 show that louis cannot go back to his born family anymore. something something ziska fill me up post here

My mom is one of those people who watch things just for fun and she usually finds long or in-depth discussions about fictional stories or characters boring so I always try to find a balance between the fun and the discussions which is not easy cause when she’s bored she just leaves or gets irritated lmao

Anyway I’m going to build it up bit by bit through the rewatch so she gets to form her own ideas slowly and steadily but after we finished the series the first time I asked her so who are your favorite characters now, and with some nudging she finally arrived at the conclusion that her favorites are eren mikasa Levi erwin and hange. From the start she’s always liked eren and mikasa but what was surprising to me was that she still liked him after finishing the series. So I asked her, why? Don’t you think that committing genocide was wrong? My mom being my mom, for her this was just another anime series and she has other more practical things to worry about, she said, I’m not talking about who’s right and who’s wrong I’m just another viewer who has seen their story and that’s all there is to it. Me being me I refused to give up 😂 so, very carefully, I asked, but from your own perspective, did eren do the right thing? And she said, well he didn’t really have much of a choice. I could sense she was getting a bit annoyed so I stopped there lmao at least I got something out of her. And I managed to get this out of her only by asking her roughly the same question a number of times already. Another time I asked her, but if you had been in his shoes, what would you have done? She said, hypothetically, I wouldn’t have done any of these things because I wouldn’t be eren or any of the other major characters, a person like me can only be a minor character in that universe. Just last night she said lightheartedly that they really wronged eren for putting him behind bars after he just saved the cadets albeit unknowingly while they were trying to get some gas at the headquarters, and I took the chance and said, well if that’s what you call being wronged then what about the 80% of humanity that he killed? What about all of the children who never even got to experience growing up? And she kind of shrugged and said, yeah that was wrong too. Sometimes talking to my mom about certain things really feels like trying to get the stereotypical cat to like you lmao 😂 you try to reel her in by asking simplified questions of importance casually but it doesn’t always work. On the other hand I feel that I should clarify and it’s that I’m pretty sure my mom does NOT support genocide, or any of the other selfish things that eren has done, in the real world. It’s just that my parents are very practical, very no nonsense kind of people who are busy with matters in the real life which leaves little room for much else. I’m very lucky that she even indulges my shenanigans at this point really because she 100% would not have watched snk or any other anime had I not begged her to lmao so this is really just her being kind of slow and not always 100% ‘there’ when we’re watching or talking about it because to her this simply isn’t very important and frankly isn’t worth ‘wasting’ too much time and energy for, but this doesn’t mean she dislikes it or whatever watching and thinking about anime just aren’t a priority for her. Anyway to provide an example I believe snk is banned in China? And I told her this and asked her if she understood why and if she could see the parallels, and she said yeah she did. She also said that the Japanese military at the time were really really cruel. So yeah, I just don’t want anyone misunderstanding

Other than this I always knew she liked Levi and hange, way before she even realized it herself cause she’s always had only good things to say about them. And then I also finally told her my top ten favorite characters and she was really surprised that my favorite was sasha? 😂 she asked me why, and I said, because she’s had remarkable character development. Because sasha used to be a selfish, stingy, and cowardly brat back when she was even younger, and then all on her own she eventually became a splendid soldier and an extraordinary person. Brave, generous, principled, and kindhearted, not to mention her battle skills, and she’s so funny and charming too. What’s not to love? My mom just kind of smiled and nodded. What was funny to me was when I mentioned that I found connie to be the most good looking male character in the series and she looked at me with wide eyes and basically said that my preference was odd 😂 um??? Am I the only one who finds Connie very handsome? I don’t often look at a lot of posts on here or wherever but I bet not? He’s really good looking though??? 😂 I told her I really liked Connie’s eyes and she found it funny lmao??? Anyway the conversation ended there but I plan to clarify sometime soon. The only thing I’ve ever heard her say about this on her own is that she found eren pretty, especially younger eren. She’s also answered before that historia and Annie were very pretty, and that hange was pretty too even with an eyepatch. She’s also mentioned a few times that she felt mikasa looked a bit too mature for her age in season 4 and that she was prettier in the previous seasons. Armin on the other hand she felt looked very young. For me personally I find connie Levi and hange to be the most good looking characters, and eren armin mikasa and falco aren’t bad either but they’re a bit hit or miss for me lmao

Loveuary, Day 9 - Celebration

Four months he'd been stuck in the hospital. Four months he'd been forced to resign himself to the whims of every nurse and doctor. They couldn't figure it out. As it just so happened to be, he and his brother were complete medical anomalies. While he'd gotten used to all the work arounds he'd found to keep Red healthy, it had never been an issue he himself bore the brunt of.

Until he got sick, of course. The better half of a year ago, he noticed a change. Small, at first, and he blamed it on overworking. But as the days went by, and even Stretch started to ask if he'd been feeling alright, he eventually had to tell his husband the truth – no.

Doctor appointments turned into overnight stays and emergency room visits, until it came to a head and they admitted him more permanently. At its worst, he couldn't really remember much, but judging by the sleepless stains nearly everyone who visited him wore, it must've been bad.

On the better days, guilt gnawed at him. Despite his own more...'unstable' health, Stretch spent as much time there as the hospital allowed him, for nearly all four months. It took the efforts of both Blue and Chara, and sometimes Levi hoisting him over her shoulder, to get him to go home and take care of *himself for a little while. But it would've been a lie to claim Stretch's presence hadn't been his greatest comfort.

A month in, coming out of the first bad days, a hospital staff member whose qualifications he did not know requested Stretch leave the room and then asked him about a will.

In the second month, he hadn't been privy to the details, but they'd somehow managed to get Alphys and Sylv permission to work alongside the medical doctors. Their own expertise in 'soul irregularities' was likely what lead to the breakthrough that, if he could ever accept it'd been that serious, saved his life.

The third month, the trial and error period had been the hardest. At least, that he could recall. Days blurred together and more than anything he remembered Stretch holding his hand as he finally broke down in tears. He couldn't even comfort him, only watch.

No matter how badly his bones felt, splintered and hot, his soul, swollen and weak, not even being able to wrap his fingers around his husband's and tell him everything would be alright had hurt in a way he hoped he'd never live to feel again.

Which was why, grudgingly, into the fourth month he obeyed the staff to the best of his ability, even when he had enough strength back that he wouldn't have had to. Stretch still looked wracked more often than not, and he couldn't, he wouldn't do anything else to burden him more than he already had.

Not even when he could finally go home and their overly cautious behavior became his husband's. That, at least, Edge didn't mind entertaining so much.

He'd been loose a few days by then, dozing on the couch in the family room when Stretch's soft, melodic voice stirred him.

"hey, edge?"

Rolling his head to the side, Edge hummed his acknowledgment as Stretch appeared in his vision, coming to sit on the table beside him.

"i was thinking and, would you be okay with a few people coming over for dinner tonight?"

Yawning, Edge blinked and got a better look at his love. Something in his voice sounded hesitant, and his posture reflected an uncertainty that had him really thinking about the question.

Ah, so he hadn't escaped a dreaded 'welcome home' gathering after all.

He'd been deeply relieved that first day, when their only guests had been Toriel and Red, who'd driven them home. But he should've suspected when they received no other visitors since besides Blue that they were up to something.

"How many is a few?"

Stretch shifted, smile wavering as he averted his eyes. "well, our brothers and toriel, and rus said he wanted to bring the kids, if they weren't busy," he started toying with one sleeve, the list growing for at least a full minute before he finished.

"Love," Edge had to clear his throat to continue, "that's almost everyone we know."

"no, it's not- it's, i mean, it's just family, and you know how they are, they..." his voice tapered off, and Edge watched in confusion as Stretch's expression fully crumbled, looking miserable.

"i don't know what to tell them, starlight. you didn't want visitors before either, so everyone wants to see you. they were really worried."

The earnest concern in Stretch's eyes made him look away. Except it wasn't pride or any such foolish thing, he really didn't have the energy. And if they'd visited in the hospital it certainly wouldn't have made anyone feel better to see him like that. He fought with himself for a moment and then sighed – at least as much as he could.

"Only a few. Our brothers, Toriel, Astilbe if you'd like, but no one else. They can..." he had to pause, breathing slowly until it leveled out and the lightheadedness passed. "They can visit on their own time."

Stretch's eyes followed his movements but to his credit he stayed still, allowing Edge to catch his breath on his own.

"not even the kids?"

That brought him pause. They'd likely already made time in their busy schedules, it'd probably be inconvenient to them to cancel tonight.

"Alright. The kids, too."

"and if levi comes anyway i'm not taking any responsibility-"

"Stretch."

Hands up in surrender, he chuckled, "just wanted to put that out there," his normal humor still seemed dimmed, but he looked more himself again. "i'm gunna go make some tea. think about where you want take out from because toriel's the only one i trust and i already told her not to worry about it."

As he stood, he placed a gentle hand on Edge's skull, smoothing the bone for a moment and then rewarding him with a kiss when he hummed an agreement.

Sinking back into the pillows once Stretch had left, Edge let his eyes drift shut. He could pretend for at least another hour the others wouldn't just come anyway, whatever Stretch told them. Until then he'd relish the peace and quiet and the odd feeling stirred in his soul.

While he couldn't really understand the point in celebrating not dying when you survived any other day, too, the sentiment was touching all the same.

Blog Post 1: Narratives

In this first blog post, I would like to inspect the nature of narratives in video games. I would also like to try finding my own definition of what a narrative is in the digital world of video games. In order to do that, I will have to refer to a few game creations that have been developed over the years and observe their narratives' structures, to then identify key components that would help differentiate them and set them apart.

Tomb Raider 2013

Generally speaking, this version of the game holds key aspects of a traditional narrative. First, the personality written for Lara Croft, the main character of the game is well believable and realistic. I remember from playing the game, how the plot shows a relatively steady development in Lara's character: she is first shown to be innocent and fearful as her adventures begin, and her decisions seem to be based on hesitation and uncertainty. Throughout the story, the main character ends up following a path of personal development and her actions start to reflect more logical decisions based on both her emotions and reason. All along she is accompanied and abandoned multiple times by a group of well-rounded side characters who both help her and ask for her aid at times. Not only does the narrative follow Bordwell and Thompson's three main components of time, space, and causation (Bordwell, Thompson, and Smith, 2023), but it also closes with a clear ending depicting a victory led by Lara and her friends who escape danger and return back to safety. Other than that, the narrative's structure that is adopted by the game designers seems to be linear, similar to the ones found in books and film, which is not surprising knowing that the first version of the game dates back to 1996 when it first debuted on the PS1 console. Even with the emersion of new versions, the game still limits player interactivity and control over the plot. The game can only be played the way the story was written, and its completion requires passing through all stages or events that are predefined.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits

Although this is a relatively fresh game produced by a new company, Kena: Bridge of Spirits follows a familiar narrative that can be identified in many older games. Its most notable nature comes in the shape of Levi-Strauss' theory which claims that most narratives have two main opposing characters (Strauss, 1963). In this case, there is an apparent contrast between light and darkness throughout the game. I remember from playing the game that the narrative does not focus on Kena's backstory, it instead gives priority to the battle between good and evil. Nonetheless, it is easy to identify with Kena since she represents "good" and most players can feel involved in her cause. Kena is a spirit guide, her mission is to free spirits that were trapped by evil throughout the villages in her world, and this was possible because of many interventions from NPCs (or side characters) who play a key role in helping her reach her goal. The narrative's structure in this game seems to resemble the string of pearls model where the storyline does have a clear beginning and ending, but its narration might slightly change between one player and another. This type of narrative allows players to venture on their own and engage in multiple side quests or paths before they end up at the designated ending stage. This exploration allows the player to be more in control of the game narrative, specifically in the temporal aspect of it as their actions specify how long the game takes to be completed.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Unlike the previous examples, this game offers a nuanced way of observing narratives in video games. It heavily relies on player interaction to determine the way the storyline progresses and even the way it ends. Although not the first of its type, The Witcher 3 remains one of the most well-known games that have a branching plot. Across all gameplay, the decisions that the main character Geralt takes affect the entire outcome and development of a lot of other characters (Millard, 2016). For instance, choosing how to respond to Ciri, his adoptive daughter, determines her future character. Choosing the types and the ways to interact with NPCs, and what sidequests to engage in, alters the entire storyline (Baker, 2022). Thus, making it impossible for all players to have the same linear progression of the game. This approach takes player engagement to the next level as interactions become the key components that drive the game's narrative.

And this brings me to the question...

How can I define a narrative?

Compared to conventional media like books and film, video games tend to have a much wider array of ways to go about writing narratives. Some games like Cities Skylines, a city-building simulation, don't even have any characters or stories prebuilt. Therefore, leaving it to the players to have the full creative freedom of creating imaginary plots and characters that fit their gameplay experience. In such instances, it becomes very difficult to give a clear definition of what a narrative is. In other instances, an entire game's narrative might be set on its environment or the emotions and feelings it exudes, like in the game Journey which is set on the exploration of the game world. Journey doesn't even provide linguistic dialogue between the player and the world entities. Only chirping sounds can be heard, which leaves it for the player to interpret the storyline. For these reasons, I believe it is crucial not to mix video games and other media when it comes to exploring narratives. Video game narratives cannot be confined to simple definitions as they come in an endless variety of forms. The only way to organize them is by classifying them in regard to their structures, or identifying whether the narrative is embedded or emergent when a storyline is available.
