Khaine and Khorne being directly stated to be the same
Tumblr media
While this is an often discussed theory, or that the two are at least closely connected, and many hints of it in lore/fluff, there are at least two instances in canon were this was directly stated. First one is very old, from the 1988 article "Witch Elves!" in White Dwarf #108: "The Kryrnaa are an ancient order, founded during the early dark days of the building of Naggarond. They had turned from the worship of Slaanesh soon after their exile from the Elven Kingdoms, and, still drawn by the allure of Chaos, took the murderous Khaine as their new Master. For many centuries the Krynaa were a secret order, their name heard only in the whisperings of dark passages, but their numbers slowly grew. And as the Krynaa increased in strength, there came the inevitable conflict with the Dru Perim. For Khaine is that aspect of the Blood God recognised by the Druchii, and the Blood God, known to other races as Khorne, is the sworn enemy of Slaanesh."
The second time, is much newer excerpt, from 2006's Liber Chaotica:
"Of Pleasure And Rage
Behold! For I speak to you from the Shadows - the Great Darkness, that gives meaning to all Light. At the heart of this Realm, shrouded and unclear, stands the Powers of Chaos, locked in each other's embrace, hated lovers and eternal companions.
These Four are like points upon a compass - none are close and some are opposite. War and Pleasure are two such opposites, facing each other across eternity, hating and warring, two ideals seperated by an impassable gulf of Belief and Purpose. For Khorne is discipline, hardness, suffering and rage, while Slaanesh is indulgence, beauty, ecstasy and lust. Their opposition is carved upon the knucklebones of fate and conflict can be their only recourse.
Yet how mightier is Khorne than his delight-filled sibling! Oldest of gods and greatest of warriors, Khorne's armies stretch from infinity to infinity to infinity and the Pleasure God may not rival Him. But this was not always so. For in the days when the Slaanesh, Last Born and Most Beautiful, strove for existence, His power waxed stronger than all other gods, be they seperate or together, and it seemed as though His spiteful triumph would destroy the Balance in the Warp.
But as is ever the case, Khorne was there to stem the flow of Delight. He saw the growth of His youngest sibling, and hated Him even before his birth. With His mighty arms, Khorne sought to crush the life from Slaanesh before He had even left His womb, but the war god had not counted on the passion of Slaanesh's creators, and the harder He squeezed the greater the pressure became to drive His arms apart.
The war god fought on. He sought to give all mortals time to bring an end to their corrupting decadence - the decadence that fed the nascent Power that was Slaanesh. But mortals are weak as gods are not, and though some used the time bought for them by Khorne to learn from their wicked ways, many others did not and sank ever deeper into indolence and debauchery.
Slaanesh's tempermental screams and self-tormenting nightmares echoed through the Aethyr, and insanity bloomed on every world. Terrible storms raged throughout Heaven and Hell, and rains of fire lashed across Khorne's back, but His grip ever stayed firm around His embryonic sibling. Freezing winds tore at His face and floods of poison crept up His legs, yet still the War God would not let go.
Then His brother came upon the scene. Decay stood there beside War.
"Give up," sighed Father Nurgle. "Give into what must be. It is the nature of things that morals decay and cultures must rot. Mortals cannot leave their destined path."
Khorne turned away from His brother and grasped His wrists all the tighter. Then a gust of coloured light brought there to the brothers the Changer of Ways, and Tzeentch gazed upon the War God with amusement and disdain.
"End this," he hissed. "For it must come to pass. Change is the constant that cannot be changed. We Three must be Four, so the Game has demanded. Be it now, be it later, our sibling must come."
But Khorne would have none of it. He rorared His fury until the universe shook, and the foundations of All That Is, All That Was, and All That Shall Be, threatened to crumble. His brothers left Him then, one with a sigh and one with a chuckle, for both knew that the ending was close.
Upon the Mortal Plane the wars had all ceased. All morals and laws had rotted away, and the change to conceit was almost done. The Three wavered as decadence took hold, and Slaanesh expanded beyond size and beyond measure. But Khorne, unable to see defeat, hung on to His charge though his arms were bent back and His body near-crushed. Then with a scream of release that ripped through the Warp, Slaanesh threw off His eldest brother and burst into being.
Such was the Event of Slaanesh's birth, the metal body that had contained Khorne's essence since He had slain Khaelis Ra, shattered into a thousand pieces that scattered across the dimensions. But though His soul had been freed from its silver prison, Khorne had not the strength to strike a counter blow against exultant Slaanesh, and so the Pleasure God was left to reap the souls of His mortal creators and set His Throne alongside those of His brothers. So it was that the Three became Four and the Eternal Pantheon was complete.
From whenever 'then' was, until wherever 'now' is, the gods have continued their unending dance, twirling each other through the minds and souls of mortals. First one leads and then another, each keeping step in this pavane of peril, a stately measure played out to the beating of human hearts.
None of these powers can ever truly win against its brothers, for, as the Great Conspirator did say, it is the nature of things that change is the only constant - and nowhere is this more true than within the shadow place that is Chaos.
Yet still the gods dance and their bellows of delight shake the universe.
from the 'Liber Maleficarum'. Restricted distribution 2405- I.C. by order of K. M. Eisel, Witch Hunter Captain"
(written down by Dreadnautilus on reddit, as the fragment was in handwriting in Liber Chaotica).
As seen in the fragment describes Khorne fighting and destroying K(h)aelis Ra (the Nightbringer), exactly like Khaine was described in lore from the same period (the short story, and in-universe Eldar myth "The Birth of Fear"). And being, or rather Khaine/Khorne's shell being shattered by Slaanesh.
Does it mean Khorne and Khaine are the same? Not necessarily. Even the fluff from Liber Chaotica implies they are no longer the same, being split by Slaanesh. It's also hard to tell if this fluff/lore is canon, especially seeing multiple elements from the White Dwarf #108 were directly retconned. Still, it does show there were instances were the two gods of war and blood were stated to be same.

Chaotica - Prison of Decay
Whoo boy we're starting in the trauma straight out I guess. So this song is here because of the 12 years Kumo was stuck living in Gaudium under Chaos' roof AKA with Earl Tyrant himself.
So instead of me breaking down every line of this song, let me explain it like this for those who haven't read the Gaudium Drabbles.
Kumo landed in Wonderland when he was only 20 years old(still a kid to a Misterican until 25) and he revives wherever his sword is - it landed in Gaudium. Gaudium becomes his home in Wonderland and they force him to learn the language and demand he never speak his own again.
Kumo learns how horrible these people are roughly a half year or so into his time in Wonderland when the Earl tells Herba (one of his Lords) to go slaughter an innocent village because they were "disrupting his order within Wonderland" and Kumo pipes up and begs for their lives. It's then that The Earl (Kumo calls him "His Excellency, even in present day) asks Kumo if he would "trade his pain in their stead" and Kumo doesn't reply. He goes silent but doesn't refuse.
This is the first time in his stay there that he gets killed. It's the first time he realizes he's immortal and falls into an abusive loop of torturous behavior on The Earl's end over the course of years. It's a few more months after this that Kumo fakes one of his deaths and waits until they think he's good and dead in order to run. He doesn't succeed in getting away because Herba comes after him and starts threatening to burn villages to the ground if they can't help her find him. So he gives himself up to save their lives.
And this drags out for years. 12 years. Kumo spends 12 hopeless years in Gaudium in a tortuous abusive environment he can't get out of that leads him to die well over 100 times. And he's stuck. Stuck in that castle. That prison. A prison of decay.

Why me? What did I do? You're looking down on my back from your bird's-eye view Do you like what you see, silently judging me? Am I measuring up to what you thought I could be?
Fine then, I'll play your game I'll be the ant in your farm on which you place blame I will carry your cross because you are the boss I've got nothing to gain but the blame for my loss!
[Chorus]
I'd make a break for it but I can't run away I'm going to be stuck inside of here everyday I'm just a piece of trash that someone threw away I'm doing time in your Prison of Decay
Help me out - I'm trapped and I don't want to stay For God's sake does it look like I will be okay? I'm only in here 'cause I chose to disobey You're the one who built my Prison of Decay
I will find my own way; You know if I made the rules I'd be inclined to stay But you are in control because you bought my soul And now I'm falling inside of a bottomless hole See upcoming rock shows Get tickets for your favorite artists
Jump hoops, tapping the dance You sent me into the pit without a fighting chance Yes I want to prevail but I'm destined to fail I cannot spread my wings when I'm locked in your jail!

Why me? What did I do? You're looking down on my back from your bird's-eye view Do you like what you see, silently judging me? Am I measuring up to what you thought I could be?

Give up - I'm giving in I don't see any possible way I can win Because of the neglect I've become a reject And now everything else in my life is all wrecked
What now? I'm down on my back Do you really think I've got the stamina to attack? Look I'm beaten and bruised and I'm broken and used I hope that I've amused 'cause I'm feeling abused!
[Chorus]
I'd make a break for it but I can't run away I'm going to be stuck inside of here everyday I'm just a piece of trash that someone threw away I'm doing time in your Prison of Decay

Is season 5 the best season for Voyager? Are all season 5s the best seasons?
by Ames
Tumblr media
There’s just something about those middle seasons of any Star Trek series. The characters have all received enough development to feel real. The writers have found their footing. There are enough existing story arcs to draw from to create a really cohesive world. And the show hasn’t been going on long enough for the stories to get stale and the writers to run out of ideas. We saw it in season five of The Next Generation, which tied with season 6 for number of episodes represented in our overall tops from the series. I’d argue that season four is the best season of Deep Space Nine, with some of the best episodes of the series and really very few of the worst. And now that A Star to Steer Her By has finished our watch-through of season five of Voyager, I’m sensing a pattern. Sorry, Enterprise.
What do y’all think? Season fours versus season fives? We’ll have to wait to see if the pattern holds with any of the currently running series, but so far, I think my theory holds. We’ve constructed our typical season wrap top 5 / bottom 5 listicles, and this past season of Voyager just had too many good episodes to choose from. Check them all out below and listen to our chatter on this week’s podcast episode (discussion starts at 1:27:17) where you can hear some bonus episodes from guest star Carl of the BattleSpace Nine podcast!

Top Three Episodes
There were a lot of contenders for top three this season, which speaks to the strength of the season overall, and our picks were way more spread out than usual. Interestingly (if you like random stats as much as I do), this is the first time we have seen no overlap in a list from Caitlin, a feat achieved before by Chris in both season 5s of TNG and DS9. Season 5s, amirite?
Tumblr media
“Drone”: Ames Borg on board! We’re still at the stage in the show when every Borg episode is a highlight in some way or another. And this One’s no different (emphasis on the One!). It may be a retread of “I, Borg,” but is that such a bad thing? Credit to our new friend from the Collective, born when some nanoprobes and a mobile emitter got busy in the transporter, for giving us all the feels.
Tumblr media
“Thirty Days”: Caitlin Tom is at his best when he’s a little bit rebellious. It was really good to see that streak of bad boy in him while also seeing how his character development over the seasons has made him a fighter for the little guy. We finally see what Torres finds so attractive in him. Mmm, so ethical. And any time we get to have a big old Prime Directive debate is going to be a good time.
Tumblr media
“Bride of Chaotica”: Chris Similar to something like an “Our Man Bashir” or a “Trials and Tribble-ations,” this episode tears out all the stops and just goes for broke. When Star Trek embraces its campy roots but also does something original with tropes, it’s pretty much bound to end up on Chris’s tops list. It was just too delightful watching Kate Mulgrew ham it up. Invaders! Invaders!
Tumblr media
“Timeless”: Jake This episode was this close to making our top time travel episodes list, but the phase variance was just slightly off. So I’m glad we get to sing its praises now because it’s another good use of the time travel motif: the premise is smart, Harry’s guilt is emotionally evocative, the crash on the ice planet somehow holds up, and this might be the most attractive we’ve found Garrett Wang yet!
Tumblr media
“Counterpoint”: Caitlin What’s better than a good double crossing in an episode? Perhaps a triple crossing? A quadruple crossing? We lost count of just how many crossings there were in “Counterpoint,” but we loved watching Janeway outscheme Kashyk. Devious Janeway is definitely best Janeway, and helping people who are persecuted is definitely a good taste to have in the mouth.
Tumblr media
“Latent Image”: Chris As you’ll see in a second with our tippy top pick of the season, we love a brutal ending, and seeing the Doctor have to deal with soul-crushing problems is spell-binding. We can empathize with how the more human emotions and flaws that he’s developed over the years can be considerably detrimental, but it’s that development that has made him such a remarkable character. Take that to the memory bank!
Tumblr media
“Nothing Human”: Caitlin One last one just from Caitlin’s list and it’s a good’un. “Nothing Human” is a fine allegory for Nazi experimentation and Crell Moset makes for a very compelling and thought-provoking equivalent to a Nazi doctor whose work could be considered beneficial despite the horrific ways in which it was achieved. It’s also a plus anytime we see Cardassians strutting their stuff on Trek, so there’s that too. Yum.
Tumblr media
“Relativity”: Ames, Jake I’m not shy about lauding this episode all over the place, such as in our time travel episodes discussion just last week! What more can I say about this mindfuck of a time travel episode that I haven’t already gushed? The paradoxes make your eyes cross just a little bit, but in a good way because the pacing is just spot on. And Jeri Ryan nails it, of course, and rocks a Starfleet sciences uniform like no one else.
Tumblr media
“Course: Oblivion”: Ames, Chris, Jake Get ready to be emotionally manipulated by an episode for a full forty-five minutes, and it feels so good! Once you come to realize the twist of this episode and the ending is inevitable, it’s like slow torture, except that’s our kink. The character doubles are just so compelling to watch because they effectively are our usual characters, with their same traits and motivations, just without the plot armor.

Bottom Three Episodes
You’ll see a lot more overlap in our bottoms list, kinda like we had last season, mainly because there just weren’t that many bad’uns to go through. So here are just the couple that we mostly agreed should have been scrubbed from this season and from our eyes.
Tumblr media
“Infinite Regress”: Ames As fun as it is to watch Jeri Ryan play a whole bunch of personalities from people she’s assimilated (see our character possessions post!), it’s also a fairly thin story that doesn’t hold up to scrutiny. The actions of all the other personalities aren’t grounded by anything. And the mindmeld scene is just some exhausting sensory overload of chaos.
Tumblr media
“Someone to Watch Over Me”: Caitlin This episode may seem a lighter, fluffier story that you can generally enjoy on the whole (and I won’t be hearing anything bad about Scott Thompson!), but when you get down to it you’ve got to admit: it’s just Pygmalion. Almost beat for beat. It’s pretty lazy to just go all My Fair Lady on Seven, especially when she’s already such a good character that doesn’t need whatever fixing the doctor seems to think she needs.
Tumblr media
“The Disease”: Ames, Chris, Jake This is an episode that had too many plotlines to focus on and it bet on the wrong horse. While we were clawing at the television to learn more about the rebels on the generational ship, the writers were force feeding us a fairly bland romance and trying to convince us that there was some kind of conflict when really Kim and Tal were just a normal couple. Who is Janeway to lecture him on banging an alien?
Tumblr media
“11:59”: Caitlin, Chris, Jake Now an actually bad romance comes from Janeway’s ancestry in this episode that could have just been about how history isn’t always all it’s cracked up to be except for this meet cute that derailed the whole thing. Not only did Shannon and Henry have absolutely no chemistry, but also the character of Henry Janeway was just plain unlikeable in just about every way. Stop living in the past, episode!
Tumblr media
“The Fight”: Ames, Caitlin, Chris, Jake But the episode that we all agreed on from this season is one of the most notoriously bad. “The Fight” is the lowest rated Voyager episode on IMDB, and there is good reason why. The structure of flashbacks and dream sequences and random meetings with Chakotay’s insane grandfather is so convoluted it somehow manages to contradict itself constantly. This one was knocked out before it got in the ring.
Is it all downhill from here? Seasons 6 and 7 have trended weaker in TNG and DS9, so keep listening along with our watch-through of Voyager to find out how the rest of the series fares! Make sure you’re subscribed over on SoundCloud or your favorite podcast app, hail us on Facebook and Twitter, and shine up that plot armor: you’re gonna need it!

After the birth of his grandchild, Kratos took the book of the curses and placed a curse on Zero. His parents saw the curse as a good used to hide the sword of sealing, blending into the curse itself. Since the curse was known to be “uncontrollable”, it was sealed. Zero would be Ava’s only child due to the risk of herself. After he had fully grown up at the age of three, he started to be trained by his father. He also would soon meet Akara whenever her or her mother would come over. Zero saw himself in her but as a female counterpart. Ava was very upset since he was too young to know his true self.
Damien, however, made it his choice to make sure that Zero was fully ready in case Kratos came. When Zero was little, he was very outgoing and bright, he was a child after all. At the age of six, Zero was very curious of his hand that he removed the seals. When he did so, the curse immediately became active. Young Zero lost himself in the darkness from the curse and lead himself out of control. However, since he was at home; his parents immediately came to stop it. Zero never ever take the seals off after that. Two years later, life soon went downhill. His grandfather Kratos came to end his parents and himself. Kratos soon faced off with Damien while Ava ran with Zero to hide him away. While she hid him, Kratos was on his way to her. He had banished Damien to the underworld for life.
Ava then left Zero and headed out to find Damien, to which she meets Kratos in the hallway. Zero, however, didn’t want to hide. But instead, soon chased after his mother. He soon appears behind her as he then witnesses her death. While Ava dead, she placed her spirit into the balance orb and sent to Zero’s heart. Afterwards, it became a blur. After he had awoken, Kratos was gone, and his home was burning. He was able to stop that. He then was able to get together his mother's ashes, placing them in something; soon burying her. Afterwards he went into a deep depression and quietly hid away for five years.
Pre-teen/Teenage/Young Adult:
Zero, who is now thirteen; came out of hiding and started to train himself. His father had left behind his weapons, Demon weapons that were made by demons. Even at a young age, he was able to control the weapons easily. The weapons were known to be demons themselves, Chaos and Oblivion; twins. Zero let them choose any animal that they wished to be. Chaos took up a black wolf with red eyes and Oblivion, a white wolf with blue eyes. Chaos could speak and Oblivion was muted. All three would be close as he continued to train with them. During this time, he started to show signs of PTSD and insomnia.
Zero trained to use his telepathic skills to teleportation. By the time he was at the age of sixteen, he knew every ability he had. Zero not only worked on his powers, but he also worked on his body. He worked out with exercise to build up his strength, so that within six months his body was fit. After his training, he started to find leads on his grandfather, but he didn’t leave his family home until he was eighteen. When he got that old, he stopped growing and aging. By that time, Zero had built up his rage and anger inside, cutting every other emotion out.
After leaving and following up on leads to leads, he would soon meet Zash and Riza. The two were close, making them married. Zash was good at finding information for leads and would have his contacts if they didn’t them for him. Which was good for Zero, since he pretty much was bad at finding leads due to his introverted self-style. Riza was much of a problematic demon, considering she was a succubus. But she was faithful to Zash, but she did tend to flirt with others as a joking matter. It annoyed Zero. All three were then together for a few or more years, soon leaning towards meeting Akara and Jace.
When they met, Akara was a traveling witch and providing medications for humans or anyone that needed it. Jace just so happened to be with her, since they both came across each other on their paths. Akara was a skilled witch who knew how to use a sword, she was basically like him but female. Jace was a fighter, he would mostly do club fights where others would be between with money. Zero wasn’t much for a bigger team or having more than two, but he would grow to them afterwards.
Adult/Current life:
Since Zero was older than everyone, he still hid away from them. He would move through the shadows to keep himself hidden from anyone. He was now twenty years old in human years, but in demon; much higher in numbers. That's only because he stopped aging at the age of 18. He was fully struggling with PTSD and insomnia; he completely stopped sleeping due to nightmares. Zero thought he would stay hidden for a long time but soon was found by four others. He was shocked since they could find him but then again, they were demons themselves. He became shocked when he saw Akara, whom he had forgotten about. Zero wasn’t a save from before though, so he was different than he was as a child. He wasn’t much for the team up, but they wouldn’t take a nod for answer.
Zero was in fact stuck with them. At this point, He didn’t care if they all joined him for job-for-hires. The more demons are together, the more power they are together. Zero was with them for about a few years or more, it’s unknown since he doesn’t count how long, nor they don’t. All five then soon found leads on Kratos and follows it to where their new-soon-to-be friends are. As it turns out, Kratos was looking to start a war or anything to get rid of the humans. Zero, long with his group, Sakura, and her group teamed up to end Kratos raging. During that, Zero would start showing her feelings for Sakura and she does too.
During the battle against Kratos, Zero would learn that he could control his curse by placing his mother’s half Chao orb into it. He must consume the darkness, even if it overtakes him in the process. To which, he would soon also learn that the sword of seal was in that same curse. This information was given by his father, Damian, as he would show up for the battle to support. Damian would soon also tell his son that the other half of the orb was in the princess; Sakura. Knowing that Ava has been with Zero and Sakura the whole time, bright him at ease from the pain he went through.

Dexterity: 9/10
Constitution: 7/10
Intelligence: 5/10
Temper: 10/10
Wisdom: 5/10
Charisma: 4/10
Abilities:
Telepathy: Zero can telepathically talk to his demon swords aka Chaos and Oblivion. But there is a disadvantage when oblivion is in animal form.
Oblivion takes up a wolf form, thus as the same length of telepathically reach. Oblivion also is muted, so thus telepathy is he way of talking.
Chaos can telepathically talk to Zero at a good length close to a mile, about three miles. Chaos can however telepathically talk to oblivion since their connected to each other.
Teleportation: Zero can teleport through darkness, meaning he can simply walk through the shadows. As well as make portals of darkness and go through them to get to a place. But he barely uses this since he prefers the shadow moving.
Dream Walking: Zero can appear into dreams, but he can not do it by teaming with other to dream hop. When he sleeps, he just gets sent to dreams of someone that is connected with his or similar of his dreams.
Healing: Zero’s body can heal on it own, but the healing can do so much. After a wound is healed, it’ll become a scar. Also, if a weapon is still in him like knifes or etc. The wound will not be healed and will bleed out. In same cases, if a wound looks deep that humans tend to dead from. Those wounds will take a long healing process for Zero, so he is unable to fight or etc.
Magic: Zero barely uses magic but when he does, he uses the dark arts or mainly the flames of underworld. Since his blood is of his father’s, he is able to use the fires that burns sinners in the underworld. Zero can only use about 40% of those flames, so he mainly used it to cover his swords or throw the flames at his opponent to distract for a chance to hit them with his swords.
Strengths:
Zero’s body can self heal after being wounded but will leave scars. He has good reflexes and can sense danger is coming. His battle skills are good, but can have some flaws.
Weaknesses:
His body may heal, but only after the weapon is removed from him. If it’s still in him, he’ll bleed out. His curse that rests on his right hand is useful but it can kill him. Since it was given to him after birth, its core purpose is to hurt him.
The curse is mainly a demon curse that is strong for anyone to have, including Zero himself. There is a way to control it but it has not been found. Another way Zero can be killed is if the sword of sealing is found and used in battles against him. But due to it being the full sealer for his grandfather, it is hidden away until it’s ready to be found.

So, I decided I was going to start a new Skyrim game for like the millionth time, but I wanted to change things up a bit. My standard is Khajiit and I stand with the Empire, this time I'm a Nord with the Stormcloaks. Why not give it a shot for once?
THE GUILT IS EATING ME ALIVE. I think I am actually physically dying. Jarl Balgruuf was so disappointed with me, I STABBED Irileth, I miss Hadvar!
I told myself I'd stick with it until the quest is over but I have a feeling this game isn't going to last long.

D&D Quotes Without Context
Revenge of CHAOTICA! edition, Episode 1
After years of tinkering, Mary Jane Peaceblossom has finally finished reconstructing a Spelljamming helm! Now, Captain William Thunderchild and Amber take their teenage dragon ward Melfina on a maiden flight! Joined by the newly awakened Moonpaw, sent to monitor the flight for problems, because Dingo said they could go fork themselves.
"Alright so we all know the plan right?" "YES! Absolutely! Completely-understand-the-plan-and-ready-to-follow-through. Fiver?" "That was a test. There is no plan. You failed."
Fiver begins scanning the yard for the biggest guy. GM: There is a frost giant. OOC: Okay next biggest? GM: Hill giant. They are playing cards. Kind of hard to kick them in the junk when we can't actually reach said junk. Robbins: "His-junk-is-bigger-than-me."
OOC: I was gonna grab and throw him at the frost giant's junk.
Robbins: "Better-than-prison-rations...Still-needs-mustard." Fiver: "Not the first time I've been given that critique. Apparently I taste 'gamey.' Don't ask how I know this."
"Lemme-go! I-know-my-rights! I-demand-trial-by-puppet!"
Thunderchild's original suggestion of "William Thunderchild's Mutha-Fucking-Pimp-Hand" was veto'd.
Moonpaw, all you know is a half elf reeking of weed bought you from a pet shop yesterday and as of two hours ago you have higher brain functions.
"I am so going to use my new brainpower to plot your demise."
Thunderchild: "Fair enough, we can't all be the Sisko." MJ: "Praise be his name."
Suddenly, the whole ship lurches, as if going to full speed and even beyond. Melfina cries out “WHATS GOING ON?” Thunderchild: "I'll let you know as soon as I figure that out."
"We-need-your-ship. And-your-clothes." "Jokes on you: I don't wear any."
Thunderchild: "First rule of spelljammer crashes, be sure to establish that it's the other guys fault."
Fiver: "Don't mind her she has a thing about Paladins." Katt: "APAB." Moonpaw: "I don't speak whatever that is."
"Does your ship even still work?" "It didn't before."
"Although something that wont explode would be preferable." The viewing crystal explodes.
Thunderchild: "OOH I HAVEN'T HELPED WITH A PRISON BREAK IN AGES!"
Fiver: "I want to know how much they need to be filled in." Moonpaw: "All of it. Me, especially."
"Oh it's Helmut. This may be trouble. I hope he's still not sore about the Jock strap incident."
“Hands where we can see them!” "What do I do if I don't have hands?"
"KATT DON'T BE STUPID. IF YOU DIE HOW YOU GONNA EXPLAIN IT TO YOUR GODDESS GIRLFRIEND YOU GOT KILLED BY TWO MOOKS IN A JAIL?" “Hey! We’re not mooks! We’re at least elite henchpersons!” "And it's adorable you think that makes a difference." “We get health insurance and Chaotica doesn’t kill us if we displease her!”
"Cells-cells-cells-toilet-cells-game-room-cells-Oh Bridge."
"You can outrun anyone. If my life has a meaning, that is the meaning."
You follow her voice to a room bare save a table laden with charts and a green glowing dodecahedron surrounded by black metal chains. Thunderchild: "Well that is something." Fiver: "That looks nice and ominous."
"And a soul cage, who the hell uses such a twisted thing?" "The Empress CHAOTICA. Mongospace sucks."
“It feels like the same magic Auntie MJ cast before.” thunder rumbles horses whinny tortle noises "Whered-the-tortle-come-from?" "No, not you, not again!" "Why is there a gnome with a sheet of tin?"
You look out the port. Good news, you’ve moved. Bad news. There’s a plain of ice outside. "ICEBERG-AHEAD!" Worse news: you’re already on the ground. "ICEBERG-BENEATH!"
"He's-here." “Oh, yeeeeeeessss, I am!”
"Alright-we're-exiting. Just. Wait. How-cold-is-it-out-there?" "Mongo, so YES."
"I'd like to run instead of dying while only five hours old."
"Block Beta for life. All 10 seconds left of it."
The rhythmic thudding stops. From right outside the helm door you hear, in a monotone voice. “Open the door and come peacefully. Please resist. So we may BURN YOUR HEARTS IN A FIRE!” "Not by the hairs on our chinny-chin-chins!" "What she said." "I'm kind of partial to living."
"Also I would like to lodge a formal complaint with your staff violating the rules of the Genosa convention by attacking a medic. I am a cleric of El Araihah and am afforded special protections. Also they singed my good suit. And my good toupee." "Now-its-only-a-half-pee."
"Oh wait till we get to the TORCHAAA you'll hate that. They stick very tiny lobsters in your ears and they snip off pieces of your brain. It's actually worse than it sounds if you can imagine."
Janus: *deep sigh* "MJ, Mary. I asked you to do one thing, and that was 'Make sure Thunderchild doesn't get everyone killed with that crate.' What did you do? And what are our options for a rescue mission?" Heidi: "I can strap some explosives to an Apparatus of Kwalish." Janus: "Will that get us to the Astral Sea?" Heidi: "One way or the other probably."

The thought had crossed my mind that it might be for holo-reenactors, and while I think some museum practitioners would be stoked about the idea irl, in the world of Star Trek and on a Voyager museum specifically the implications of using holo-reenactros are dire.
The Doctor was trapped in a room for years, and was constantly faced with roadblocks whenever he tried to expand from his original program. Having the ship that housed his personhood and growth, and especially the ship that was the site of a potential hologram rights movement (Author, Author), then use holograms who are stuck in place and re-use the same script over and over to narrate that is a little questionable as a museological practice, if we are assuming (hoping) that museums don't backslide and continue work on allowing source communities to speak for themselves rather than be interpreted through a third lens. I think the Doctor would have something to say about it, certainly.
Additionally, Voyager historically attracts/interacts with photonic lifeforms like the Grendel aliens or the extra-dimensional beings in Bride of Chaotica, or has had its own holograms exceed their programming (the villagers in Fairhaven, I'd argue Freya from the Beowolf program), so even if there wasn't the ethical implications of holograms that modern Star Trek just refuses to engage with, from like a Disaster Mitigation perspective, I'd personally be wary of automating the Voyager museum with holograms.
(Also, I hope this doesn't come off as me being like "NO!" at you, I just genuinely think its really fun to think through museum ethics in fictional settings and am perhaps too serious about it.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What POSSIBLE conservation need could installing holo-emitters all over the ship serve??
Guys, I don’t think the Voyager museum is accredited

26. favorite time travel or holodeck episode
Thank you Sam. Now buckle in because I have some thoughts I need to say. I do want to say that if you asked me this 3 months ago my answer would probably be bride of chaotica or perhaps it’s only a paper moon or maybe even a fist full of datas. However it is not three months ago.
Our Man Bashir my bestie my friend my lovely lovely episode of television. So here’s the thing about me is that I am a guy who watches James Bond movies I’m in the middle of rewatching goldeneye as we speak and have plans to watch another one with a friend soon so I have to say right off the back the fact that it’s the Moore era of movies that they’re paying homage to is so important to me right off the bat because here, in the modern age, when you get a James Bond homage it’s either for the Connery movies, because they’re the most iconic, or the Craigs, because they’re the most recent, and it’s like I don’t even like the Moore’s that much, he’s my least favorite, but like undeniably it is his run that defined the character for years and it’s nice to see that reflected and there’s all these little nods in it I love because here’s the thing. Our Man Bashir is almost directly parodying The Spy Who Loved Me, which is understandable since I think it’s one of the most popular movies in the franchise, so there’s all these little things that are so fun for me personally to catch like them but with worfs cigar knocking them out that’s lifted directly from the movie (which is in turn I believe lifted directly from the movie to catch a thief) and like them putting in a 70s remix of the ds9 theme is great because they put in a 70s remix of the bond theme in TSWLM!!!! It’s so good. Also, and I have no confirmation for this, but I think they named Julian’s holosuite designer buddy Felix after Bonds boy best friend Felix Lieter which I think is sweet
And for another thing just from a character perspective I think it’s so delightfully perfect that Julian has a Bond obsession because like. Of Course He Does!!! And this Is like one of Thee garak episodes of all time and one of my personal favorites for him he’s so BITCHY and passive aggressive I love him in it. And I think it’s fun that the actors got to play completely different characters especially nana and avery brooks. Mwah. Perfect episode. Wish we got that Wormpussy follow up that exists in my dreams.

speaking of Black Crusade, when I make the Liber Chaotica I’m gonna have to think about how one will make a Heretic character, and especially a Chaos Space Marine character.
A very, very hare-brained idea of my idea is to also add in rules for Daemon player characters. I only have vague ideas on that, but it could be very interestingly, with a trifecta of Heretic, CSM, and Daemon PCs being the idea, with each one having very different strengths and weaknesses.
The thing is that for each of these it’ll have a completely different character creation method, which will be a fair bit of work.

Star Trek Voyager: Bride of Chaotica
Tumblr media
Episode 5.12 “Bride of Chaotica!”
Paris and Kim are playing Tom’s Captain Proton program on the holodeck when an anomaly appears and holodeck controls go offline.  Voyager is trapped. Janeway tells a story about being a science officer on the Al-Batani, trying to force their way out of a nebula, so they decide to power down the warp core. Two aliens materialize on the holodeck and are taken prisoner by Chaotica. They say they wanted to contact other photonic lifeforms and learn from them. Chaotica kills one of them.  Chaotica has a death ray.  Voyager’s systems continue to go offline the longer they are stuck.  They detect weapons fire on the holodeck, and Tom and Tuvok return to the holodeck to investigate.  They run into Chaotica’s robot who tells them that invaders from the 5th dimension attacked them.  Kim and Seven get a visual link to the holodeck where they see that Chaotica is fighting the aliens and calling for Arachnia’s help.  Paris takes Tuvok to Proton’s ship.  He gets sensor readings by “telegram.”  When they are on the ship, one of the aliens arrives.  Paris tells him there’s been a misunderstanding, and Tuvok tells him that they are in a simulation.  The alien is not familiar with biochemical life forms and believes all life to be photonic.  The alien tells them he does not believe they are real.  Paris explains the situation to Janeway.  Paris suggests that they help the aliens to defeat Chaotica, that he/Proton could destroy Chaotica’s death ray with his destructobeam if someone else can get inside the Fortress of Doom and shut down Chaotica’s lightning shield.  He suggests that Arachnia is the one to do this.  Paris explains that Chaotica is in love with Arachnia and has been trying to form an alliance with her.  She’s the only one who can get close enough to disable the lightning shield.  After much persuading from everyone, Janeway agrees.  “I’m a size four,” she says.  The Doctor takes on the role of President of Earth.  Paris schools Janeway on the correct terminology — “ray gun, not phaser; imagizer, not view screen; Earthlings, not Terrans.”  Paris tells Janeway if she has trouble, she can always uncork the pheromones.  “I beg your pardon,” she says.  He explains that the pheromones keep Chaotica under Arachnia’s spell. Janeway/Arachnia sits down in Chaotica’s throne and quips, “Somehow I feel comfortable here.”  The Doctor arrives and speaks to one of the aliens.  He tells the alien that they are allied against Chaotica, and that they need the aliens to stop firing their weapons.  The alien agrees.  Although at first Chaotica traps her, Janeway/Arachnia still manages to best him and disable the lightning shield.  “I don’t know how to tell you this, but the wedding’s off,” she says. Paris destroys Chaotica’s death ray, and Voyager is able to escape.
Original Airdate: January 27, 1999
Production Number: 207
Meanwhile, back in the Alpha Quadrant...
Another Changeling arrives on the station.  He makes Odo doubt his place among humans.  Kira helps the Changeling escape and tells Odo to go meet him, because she truly loves him and wants him to be happy.  She doesn’t want him to stay on the station because of some sense of obligation.  Odo goes to meet the Changeling, but only to tell him he’s not going to go with him.  Odo returns to Kira, and she assures him that she wants to know him the way he really is.

This week is indeed a sequel of sorts, as I follow up on a variety of topics I mentioned last week. Sometimes as clarification, sometimes to give you more info, and sometimes because I just want to mention it again.
Like the Trinity Continuum: Aberrant Kickstarter that is kicking butt and taking names and is over 200% funded as we approach the end of week two. Like I said last week, it is just so great that our existing long-time fans are as excited about bringing back this legendary game as we are!
Of course, I do want to mention this week a couple of things about the KS, and maybe more the KS process that I think backers and potential backers might find it worth considering.
First, this is a reboot or re-imagining of the Aberrant setting as well as using the Storypath rules. It’s not a sequel or just a port of the old stuff onto Storypath. The designers had several goals they needed to hit, like making the system actually work this time, advancing the setting in both time and relevancy to where we are now (not the 90s), and to make sure it fit into the Trinity Continuum concept.
As more and more of the text is released to backers, you’ll be able to judge yourself how well they hit those marks – but I think they accomplished all that and a lot more!
But please, bear in mind that excerpts and previews are still just sections of the greater whole, and so you are reading something that isn’t connected to the remaining sections of the book in ways that may illuminate aspects hard to see with what is available right then.
We provide the text as we do to enable conversation and fun speculation. If you find yourself gnashing your teeth and swearing eternal vengeance over an excerpt, then the method we’re revealing things might not work for you. You’re not a jerk because of that, and we’re not jerks because we’ve found a method we use in our KSs that works really well for us. (We’re jerks for other reasons, though.)
Dystopia Rising: Evolution art by Mark Kelly
Another thing to consider about the KS preview process is that it’s not the Errata phase. We do have one of those for pretty much all of our projects, and it grew out of our Kickstarter process, funnily enough, so we definitely will give backers a chance to let us know what mistakes they find.
In fact, depending on the KS, the text may or may not have made it through editing when it is previewed. So, while the previews are great for seeing and discussing the overall concepts and details, it’s during the errata phase that we need feedback on things that don’t make sense, add up, or contradict themselves.
In much the same way, just to get this out there, we don’t do PageXXs re-errata. We do them after all the tweaks have been made, in case the text referenced in the XX moves off the page due to a change we found we needed to do because of the errata.
Eddy has a post describing why it is really important for us to keep these feedback opportunities tied to the moments in the process we need them connected to in our Pugmire Forums on this website. The gist is: it ain’t arbitrary on our parts.
Coincidentally, (?), the Onyx Pathcast crew just posted an episode devoted to this very topic: the errata/playtest/editing process and the care and feeding of the creators involved. They have a great time breaking the process down into very clear segments here: https://onyxpathcast.podbean.com/
M20 Book of the Fallen art by Oliver Specht
Following up on the Storypath Nexus Community Content site for Scion 2nd Edition, and I just want to say how thrilled we have been with the response so far. There’s already a handful of Scion products up there, with a surprisingly wide range of subject matter, size, and pricing. Good for all of you who have put together your projects and posted and let’s cheer on the creators working on their Scion projects even as I type this!
Bravo folks! It’s a great way to share your ideas, make a little money if you price it that way, let us here at Onyx Path see what you can do, and help jump-start an awesome community with awesome content.
And, of course, here’s some clarification items.
First, Storypath Nexus is the community content site for all the games powered by the Storypath rules set. So while we have started with Scion, the Trinity Continuum, Dystopia Rising: Evolution, and They Came From Beneath the Sea! game lines will also appear as they are released. Each of these will have different allowable content guidelines, and any of them may add or subtract from those guidelines as we see what works for that line.
For example, one Storypath gameline may allow fiction books to be posted, another may not. Then, some time later, fiction may be added to where it was previously not part of the allowable content. So, the Nexus is for Storypath game lines, not for Storypath as a system.
Much in the same way as White Wolf‘s Storytellers Vault is for all the White Wolf game lines.
Second, Storypath Nexus is not an Open Game License, but a community content site. Just like every other community content site, there are guidelines like I mentioned above and limits to what can be posted on the site. Maybe at some time in the future we’ll look at ways to license the system, but right now the community content site that is Storypath Nexus is what we are experimenting with.
Trinity Continuum: Aeon – Distant Worlds art by Sam Denmark
Speaking of community content, we also have a lot of projects available (and what seems like several new ones every week) on Canis Minor for the Realms of Pugmire, and the Slarecian Vault for Scarred Lands – including the epic campaign Vengeance of the Shunned (5e) starting with Part 1 – A Mishap of Ill Portent and Part 2 – A Scholarly Schism. All on DriveThruRPG!
And keep your eyes out for the annual Xmas in July Sale blowout on DTRPG, too, where you can get wild discounts on the PDFs of our:
Many Worlds, One Path!
BLURBS!
Kickstarter!
The Trinity Continuum: Aberrant Kickstarter funded in less than a day and is now over 200% funded! So, this page explains a bit of how the riddle works, but there’s also a catch that I’ve seen pointed out somewhere before. Typically, the way this riddle is framed is that you somehow already know that one lies and one tells the truth (usually through some riddle-world-building magic or a plaque). In the film, the guards are the one that tell her the rules. If she was speaking to the one that always lies (assuming that this part of the riddle still holds true), then he could have lied to her about how exactly the rules of the riddle worked.
Happy birthday! And also can you explain why Sarah chose the door she did? Have a fantastic day! ^.^
Thank you!!! Ngl, today’s a weird day ;-;
Aah so the guarded doors scene. This one is...perplexing and it’s taken many including myself so so long to figure out. Sarah did choose correctly but how? She somehow managed to figure out who was telling the truth and who was lying but I’m still working on that part. We as the audience sorta know she chose correctly as the other door- the wrong choice- leads to “certain death”. The Helping Hands and the oubliette weren’t exactly detrimental whether she chose up or down so there is reason to believe she chose correctly. Some may disagree though because being stuck in an oubliette without a guide (Hoggle to which she already had an established advantage with) could’ve led to her demise. I guess it depends on how you interpret it because everything in the Labyrinth isn’t as it seems but generally most tend to believe Sarah chose correctly.
