☕+ the 9th doccy (from doccy who of course...)
he is, by far, the most criminally underrated doctor...and i mean that both as a character AND as an actor.
like- i mean no disrespect to the others, but... out of nuwho, i think him and capaldi gave the strongest performances. for real. and i think, with smith and tennant in particular, people kinda.... well, i dont wanna SLATE them bc they do good work!! yknow, they do... BUTi think, bc of their doctors' bigger personalities, and the stories they get, ppl kinda overhype them as actors. like dont get it wrong- they can deliver a monologue, the both of them... but god. eccleston's fucking delivery and performance is insaaane. like? dalek, in my opinion, is still the best dalek episode of the new run (deffo in my top 10 overall, i'd even say) and his acting really fucking makes it. like, i really learnt to appreciate it, watching back, when i was older to rlly notice that kind of thing...
and i really love him as a doctor, too... again also soooo underrated.... i know the set of early nuwho could be difficult, and fucking awful, but like? for its faults and the rougher edges, i really love the sincerity of s1. i touched on it before- but i think 10 and 11's bigger personalities kind of... like i KNOW why ppl like them, ofc, but sometimes they just go too fuckin tryhard "quirkiness" for me. (and by that i mean 11 and 13 mostly tbh. where its just... nothing... & kinda devolves into weird non-sequitur but im getting off topic lol). like i like how understated 9 is and how he's still a freaking weirdo - but he's also jaded and a bit of a cunt. but it never feels, like, dramatic wallowing like how 10 could sometimes be or like, he's a cunt, but he's never just. viscious needlessly. instead i think its all in the subtly of his character.... like they really strike such a nice balance with him... smile....i hope eccleston is doing well for himself. god bless him

was literally like. ok not to take it TOO seriously but seeing especially early season wesley who is so caught up in being presentable and doing what everyone expects/wants of him meeting his mirror self would be Interesting Actually. BUT YOU GOT THERE BEFORE ME 🤝🫂 solidarity
oh im obsessed with taking this too seriously now so i fully encourage it but like. it's interesting because (in my professional opinion of having skimmed the comic this afternoon and of having comics formatting generally just bounce off my brain) he seems like he's actually one of the more recognizable characters between the two universes. it feels like he retains the core characteristics of “smart kid seeking approval above all else”; he’s careful to ensure he’s deferring to the correct person in situations where captaincy is disputed, he’s willing to work through injury in order to prove himself, and in the bar scene with his gay little drink, he waits for an explicit invitation to sit down with the senior officers. he doesn’t seem to have the kind of independent ambition to the point of bloodthirstiness that defines most of the mirrorverse characters. he does question the practicality of some orders, but it’s not because he’s acting out of his own self interest, and it doesn’t really stop him from buying into a cause he grew up in enough to do his job as well as he can. like.....that’s just wesley. in both universes, he is just trying to be what he feels he is expected to be.
so then i think that makes it really easy for wesley prime to separate himself out from mirror wesley on a surface level because that version plays into the look and follows these orders that seem unconscionable under wesley prime’s values, but makes it really hard to separate himself out on a deeper level if they actually have the chance to talk for any length of time. like, he’s great at denial and repression, that’s his entire fucking arc, but something would be at work subconsciously that he cannot get rid of, because it’s hard to shake the feeling that this really is just him under other circumstances despite the surface level variances. in the context of gay wesley theory, the set of rules mirrorverse wesley is following just doesn’t happen to include 24th century internalized homophobia, or at the very least a slight degree of homosexuality as ‘rebellion’ is encouraged.

gatzzz do u have any war movie recs… i trust you to have good taste
hmmmmmmmm okay.. not all of these I'm recommending in terms of "this is a good anti-war movie," some of them r good movies in and of themselves and others are culturally significant.. also some are mini series because i like them..
all quiet on the western front (1930) this one is insane to me. it's just insane. also pay attention to the lack of a soundtrack save for the very end it adds soooo much
wings (1927) well they're pilots they're gay they kiss. super cute soundtrack despite being a silent film
dunkirk. the movie 1917 wishes it was
generation kill. insane to me again. very uhhhhh visceral 👍
band of brothers. literally the peak of tv shows. we don't need any more.
full metal jacket. THE BOOK IS BETTER. But it's definitely like an important film. joker and cowboy. cowboy and joker. Etc
platoon. well it's fucked up also an important film and kind of cray
the blue max. bruno stachel is a vile little man and ok it's worse because in the book he's 18 but in the film he looks like he's like 30 so just keep in mind he's intended to be 18 dhsjdhgyAhurj but this film is slay af
regeneration. made for tv but it's ok. I watched it in 10 parts on YouTube and I didn't hate it.
inglourious basterds. it was interesting. i have no real opinion on it. people either love it or hate it. if nobody who watched it wanted to fuck hans landa then it would be better. operation greenup is actually kinda cooler imo but that's not a movie it's just. a military operation....
casablanca? I didn't finish it yet but it's good
good morning vietnam. not sure on this one but the acting is excellent and there's some parts that are really good.
Cannot think of any more. ....
catch 22. it's a hard book to adapt but both the 1970 movie and the hulu miniseries do a decent job
FIREBIRD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!;!
on my watchlist. haven't researched very many of these tbh:
come and see
europa
das boot
land of mine
the grand illusion
the big parade
hells angels
paths of glory
i was nineteen
dr strangelove
the dawn patrol
lawrence of arabia
tuntematon solitas/the unknown soldiers
they shall not grow old
hatred and killing
enemy at the gates. Okay it's like a terrible movie but vasily zaitzev is played by jude law kind of homosexually so idk if you want to turn your brain off and just be like omg sniper yassss then it's fine
1917. complicated feelings on this one- it's a good and entertaining film but it's devoid of much else and i was epically harassed about it so that was cringe. i like the german characters the most
Anything related to John Boyne I hate him so much and I wish he died
The one about Alan Turing. Don't do it man
flyboys is so bad it's good but I'm putting it in this category because I can't recommend it in good faith. it's just like. Camp..
wonder woman. Yeah whatever it's technically a war film it's bad and inaccurate though.
the red baron. okay okay so he's like. cute :/ same case as enemy at the gates and flyboys though it's just bad and the romance is stupid and also fake? but it's fun to watch

what’s contai kai about
Hi Sam. Have you ever seen the karate kid movies. I think you should watch the second one. For purposes. And the third one because it’s the best movie ever. But cobra kai is about the bully from the first karate kid 30 years later now that he’s a washed up deadbeat dad getting his mojo back by reopening the dojo he was in that traumatized him and reigniting his feud with thee karate kid, now a karate man. And it’s also about generational violence and the cycle of abuse at first and then it becomes about a beautiful sloppy bisexual polycule comprised of the karate kid, his hot wife, and his three ex karate rivals. And yes they smoke weed. And there’s also teenage drama that I don’t really care about
#traitorslament#wouldn’t be fair to call it karate riverdale but that’s what it is to me. it’s so bad. I’m addicted to it

if the main 4 from s/n had wings. wat type would they have and why :)
this is such a fun question omg….i think samira would have swallow/swift wings because of the high maneuverability and acrobatics fit her sort of intensity in a way and because when you’re watching them fly from a distance it’s hard to tell the difference between swallows and bats which i think is thematically fitting 🤔
mel would have osprey wings because she definitely fits the style of gliding birds of prey…just hanging out in the thermals and watching it all go down…osprey specifically because she grew up on a lake and now lives by the ocean so there’s water connections!!!! also iirc ospreys can see through the reflections on water to spot their prey which is in line w how mel interacts with some of the more odd parts of the world, she’s not fooled by the mirage so to speak!!!
emily would have woodpecker wings….probably a downy woodpecker for the classy black and white color scheme (and to match her sister but different birds hehe)!! i honestly don’t have a good reason for this one i just sorta feel it idk 🤷 she’s very closely linked to the woods around where she grew up i am visualizing a woodpecker flying through the woods and that just seems like her
jax would have the wings of some sort of ground fowl!! some sort of pheasant or grouse or quail….i think the kind of bird that doesn’t fly super often but just explodes out of the brush when it gets startled seems very jackiecore to me.
#asks#traitorslament#SORRYYYYY i answered this like 2 weeks ago and then saved it in drafts and FORGOT. anyways thank u sammy hehe#i wanna draw these too i just dont have a ton of time recently....but hopefully i will get around to it eventually :)#signal to noise

can i hear the whole rant about remember me because HARD agree. especially because it’s literally 2 episodes after family…. like. come on.
god ok ok so. like i said in the tags i do think remember me is a good episode in a lot of ways, and is probably my favorite beverly one (bc she’s one of the ones who usually gets shitty focus episodes, but that’s not the point). that said, it absolutely does not do what it should logically do. losing wesley is the fear that kicks off this whole specific alternate reality, and yet somehow this episode is not about their relationship. and if you look at the show…nothing ever really is?
(this got long hold on lmao)
like what kicked this train of thought off off is the point in this first duty recap about the fact that they almost never let dr crusher be the central parental figure to her own son, and I’m inclined to feel like they were right about that. like yeah clearly some of it happened before the show or happens offscreen or whatever, but I feel like they almost never really have like….meaningful conversations in the course of the show. I don’t really feel like there’s anything Wrong with the interactions they do have but they’re almost always short, often surface level, and somehow every episode that should be about the two of them ends up being about picard’s dynamic with one of them.
with remember me specifically, it ends up being about picard to the point where most of her conversations are with him. her big fear at the end is picard disappearing. she already encountered wesley and now he’s gone. rip i guess. forget about the aforementioned fact that the fear of losing her only child and the last living piece of the husband she already lost was the reason this specific reality was created when the warp bubble hit. forget about the fact that, from a narrative perspective, this episode is set up to be About That. and then when she gets back she spends like 30 seconds hugging picard first (and then talking to the traveler lmao) before finally checking on her son that’s collapsed on a table. it feels like they went out of their way to not address the fact that wesley is in theory the most important person in her life.
idk man this episode drives me insane because it could have been a STELLAR opportunity to explore this mother and son relationship and delve into the complexities of it that we never really get to see, and then they just don’t do it because picard is more important (and because, with the exception of the trois, they don’t seem to think mother/child relationships can be as interesting and complex as father/child ones. and also because they never knew what to do with wesley). we could have had wesley as the last other person remaining! we could’ve had them working together on this, which is something we never really get because their knowledge is in different fields! we could have explored the degree to which theyre willing to trust each other! we could see how she feels about the ways in which wesley has matured over time and the ways in which he hasn’t, because he’s a genius who has dealt with a lot of things, but he’s also still a teenager with a lot of vulnerability who needs support from his mother! we could have ultimately seen her reaction to her darkest fear coming true! this could have been so good!!!! the version that I am imagining in my head rn is personal top 5 episodes material. god.
in general, wesley’s consistently defined by the parent he doesn’t have, and understandably so. it’s central to his narrative, and it makes for a compelling story. it just feels like he’s so rarely defined by the parent he does have, at least in any truly meaningful way, and if they’d taken this episode in the direction it should have gone, it could’ve done so much to fill in that gap.
#none of this is even about the fact that they spend so much time focused on the picard and wesley father son dynamic and then#in all post series content pretend it literally just didn’t happen#this ain’t about that#tng#wesley crusher#beverly crusher#san rant#ask#traitorslament

@traitorslament Alright, I think I'm ready to contribute a work involving my Star Trek Rarepair: Hoshi/Chakotay
[The camera pans across a city. Starfleet Academy stands in the background. We zoom in on a particular man walking into a corner store. It's Chakotay.]
Ch: Heya, Abe. Anything exciting?
[Abraham, the man behind the counter, leans out to high-five Chakotay]
A: Nah, brother. Just the paper.
[He slides a news-pad across the counter to his friend. Chakotay picks it up, starts skimming. Past his shoulder, we see a woman raise her head above a shelf to see who's talking. It's Hoshi Sato. She's listening intently to Chakotay]
Ch: Thanks, brother. Looks like another boring news day.
A: Yep. Still on for cards after work today, 'Kotay?
Ch: Wouldn't miss it.
[Chakotay smiles at Abraham and walks out with his cup of coffee and news'paper'. Hoshi, awkwardly, follows him out.]
H: Excuse me, ah... Kotay?
[Chakotay turns, already smiling at the name assumption. He sees that an attractive woman is approaching him so he adopts his swagger stance and half grin.]
Ch: Chakotay, actually. But my friends call me 'Kotay. Are you my friend?
H: Oh gosh, sorry, I was just eavesdropping and assumed...
Ch: You could have just said yes. [Smile]
[Hoshi, blushing, is put slightly at ease by his dry, approachable humor]
Ch: And your name?
H: Right, Hoshi Sato. I heard you talking to Abraham in there and I just had to ask you. Your accent, it's Quechua?
[Chakotay is taking a long sip of coffee as she fumbles her words out but at the name Quechua, he tilts his head in interest.]
Ch: Very close. Aim a little more north.
[Hoshi raises her eyebrows and looks upward in thought. After a few seconds, she re-established eye contact]
H: Nahuatl, maybe?
Ch: You're awfully unsure for someone who can peg my homeland by accent alone.
[She blushes again and looks away]
Ch: You hit it within the same latitude, so I'll give it to you. I'm actually of the Rubber Tree People. I'm also impressed. Where'd you pick up that skill?
H: I'm on the exo-linguistics track in Starfleet.
Ch: I've had drinks with some of the linguist folks, they seemed like a bunch of blowhards--no offense--and not one of them tagged me like you did.
H: Most of the other students are doing a minors in linguistics. I'm the only major. Minor in coltural anthropology. Can't understand a language without understanding the people.
Ch: Cultural anthropology? And I haven't seen you in one class?
H: I'm on my final year, how deep are you?
Ch: Final year? I can only hope I still have sparkling eyes by graduation. I'm two years deep and I'm already losing that light in my eyes.
[He chuckles, mostly to himself]
Ch: Hey, once you graduate, think I could borrow that?
[Hoshi smiles broadly]
H: Second year was my least favorite but once you get to Professor Vokor, it's great. He takes his classes on field trips to the lands of the cultures you study.
Ch: Vokor. I'll have to sign up for him specifically. Listen, Hoshi, you ever play cards?
H: I don't have much of a pokerface.
Ch: Oh I can tell. Why don't you swing by the co-ed dorms tonight, 1800 hours. I'll meet you in the lobby. I'll introduce you to some folks who will love to play your little accent game.
[The camera pulls back as the two continue talking and the scene fades]
