vulcan horror movies would be an exercise in emotional regulation against fear, targeted directly at vulcans' deepest insecurities. movies titled "IT IS ILLOGICAL TO QUIVER AT THIS SEQUENCE OF EVENTS" which, if one of its hundred-and-six jumpscares gets you, you'll never live it down. humans find them annoyingly scary, like a friend who won't stop trying to "get" you.

you'd think that klingon horror movies are gorefests, but it's actually quite the opposite: gore is honorable, and nothing is scarier than dishonor. they often show a person whose life falls apart despite their own valiance and virtues: like an earth tragedy but with someone who clearly doesn't deserve it. at the end, there's often an operatic number where the protagonist exclaims that there's nothing they could have done to prevent their abysmal fate.

To be honest the Sisko family is such a crazy story element to just toss into your star trek show. Just casually drop that your main character's biological mother was (semi?) posessed for a few years only to give birth to a child. Imagine being Sisko's mom and just gaining awareness after like a few months that you don't remember and suddenly you gave birth to a child and are in a relationship with a man you probably don't even know. What the hell was up with that

Watching the Academy trailer and paused in the middle of it to read all of those names on the wall, and the absolute highlight is Admiral Harry Kim!!!

Also if anyone has a list of what it all says anywhere, that would be greatly appreciated. The font they chose gives me a headache and while I can recognize the names I know, I can't parse the others well enough to write an image description

like I know complaining about a list of names is a little bit hypocritical because of the time a list of names easter egg in tng made me vibrate out of my skin but a) I do think it is fundamentally different to include something like that in the streaming age vs live tv age. you have to anticipate that people are going to pause and read it, and it even seems like they’re banking on it in this case and b) the tng one used the actors’ first names (and one previous character name reference) and wasn’t really supposed to have implications about the characters or the people who made the list in-universe, whereas the starfleet academy one by necessity does have those repercussions. idk like I said it’s way too early to judge the show itself but I think I’m allowed to judge that particular choice.

i love star trek the motion picture. no one understands star trek the motion picture like i do. the terrible pacing and excruciatingly long pan shots of spaceships is part of the charm. you will sit here and look at the enterprise from different angles for 10 minutes straight and you will LIKE IT

ive always wondered why Kira was chosen to be ds9's first officer. Like how was it decided that she would be the best fit out of everyone on Bajor. Who in the provisional government on Bajor brought her forward as a candidate, especially because she does not even want the Federation anywhere near Bajor.

What is her reputation like on Bajor at the start of the series. Like how did they convince her to be the first officer?? so curious about it
