Doctors in New York City are scrambling to find answers as a a cheap, flesh-rotting horse tranquilizer floods the city’s illegal drug market.
Xylazine, called “tranq” on the street, is mass-manufactured in China and has recently proliferated on the streets New York as well as San Francisco and Philadelphia.
The “zombie drug” causes skin lesions that look like flesh is being eaten off, sometimes down to the bone, and can slow a person’s heart and breathing until they stop, leaving users catatonic or dead.
Drug dealers frequently mix Xylazine with fentanyl to prolong the high, creating a potentially deadly cocktail, but “tranq” is often mixed with other drugs like meth and cocaine as well, meaning users often take Xylazine unknowingly.
“Tranq” recently hit the streets of New York with “astonishing” speed, according to law enforcement.
Dr. Paolo Coppola, the board-certified co-founder of Victory Recovery Partners near Oyster Bay on Long Island, said the situation gets much more complicated when tranq is involved.
“The clinical picture becomes much more diabolical, a lot harder to follow — a lot more can go wrong,” Coppola told the New York Post.
Meanwhile, Narcan, the emergency opioid reverse medicine, does not work on “tranq” since xylazine is not an opioid.
“When [an addict] uses a speedball of cocaine and heroin, we can deal with that no problem. You reverse the heroin so they start breathing again and you wait for the cocaine to finish up,” Coppola said.
“Xylazine doesn’t work that way,” the doctor told the Post. “When they come to the emergency room, you fully expect them to wake up when you push the Narcan … but all of a sudden it’s not really working, they’re not waking up.”
Coppola said doctors often have to use different drugs to help patients on “tranq” whose blood pressure or heart rate is sinking. Addicts can also be addicted to Xylazine without knowing it until they try to get clean and the withdrawal leaves them anxious and irritable.
Dr. Steve Salvatore, Victory’s co-founder and president warned that because “tranq” is so cheap and prolongs the high, we are “going to be seeing a lot more of xylazine.”
“That’s why it’s become popular: Now, your high goes from one or two hours to more like four to five hours,” Dr. Steve Salvatore told the Post.
Xylazine has the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) alarmed as well.
The DEA said it has seized xylazine and fentanyl mixtures in 48 states. In 2022, the DEA found xylazine in about 23% of the fentanyl powder and 7% of the fentanyl pills seized by the agency.
In the three and a half years from January 2019 to June 2022, the number of fentanyl deaths each month that involved xylazine spiked from about 2.9% to 10.9% in 20 states and the District of Columbia, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported in June.
Because Xylazine was only ever intended for animal use, the drug is not a controlled substance federally or in New York. Several cities and states have moved to crack down on the drug, however.
Never.

FODMAP Diet: Mushrooms
FODMAP Diet: Mushrooms - Can They Be Included?
Tumblr media
The low FODMAP diet is a scientifically proven way of managing irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth syndrome (SIBO) symptoms through dietary changes. SIBO sufferers should read the important paragraph below*. But what about mushrooms? Can you enjoy mushrooms while following this diet? The good news is yes, you can introduce mushrooms into your diet but you need to avoid certain types. In this post, we’ll discuss the FODMAP content of different types of mushrooms and provide tips for integrating mushrooms into a low FODMAP lifestyle.
What is the Low FODMAP Diet?
The diet was originally developed by researchers at Monash University in Australia. FODMAP stands for Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides and Polyols. These are types of carbohydrates that can cause digestive issues for people with IBS.  Foods high in FODMAPs draw excess water into the intestine and get fermented by gut bacteria, leading to common IBS symptoms like gas, bloating, cramping, diarrhea, and constipation. It is important to identify foods high in these FODMAPs and substitute options lower in these carbohydrates. When followed correctly, the diet can provide relief for around 3 out of 4 people who suffer from IBS.. It involves an initial elimination phase removing high FODMAP foods, followed by carefully reintroducing foods to identify personal trigger foods.
Are Mushrooms Low FODMAP?
Tumblr media
So, as previously mentioned, people with IBS and SIBO* can have mushrooms but it depends on the type and serving size of the mushrooms.  Many common types of mushrooms have been tested by Monash University and certified as low FODMAP in regular serving sizes. These include: - Button mushrooms - Oyster mushrooms - Shiitake mushrooms - Enoki mushrooms - Portobello mushrooms These varieties are considered FODMAP friendly and can be enjoyed in amounts up to 1/2 cup cooked or 40g dried. However, some mushroom types contain higher levels of mannitol (a type of sugar alcohol) and other FODMAPs, so should be avoided on a strict low FODMAP diet: - Chanterelle mushrooms - Porcini mushrooms - King oyster mushrooms  Additionally, even mushrooms low in FODMAPs can provoke symptoms if consumed in excess. Stick within the recommended serving sizes.
Key Questions about Mushrooms in the Low FODMAP Diet
Here are answers to some common questions about including mushrooms in your diet: Are fresh, canned, or dried mushrooms low-FODMAP? Fresh, canned, or dried varieties of button, oyster, shiitake, enoki, and portobello mushrooms are all low FODMAP in the appropriate serving size. However, chanterelles and porcini mushrooms should be avoided. Can you eat white button mushrooms on this diet? Yes, both white and brown are considered low FODMAP at 1/2 cup cooked or 40g dried. They are a great substitute for mushrooms higher in FODMAPs. Are shiitake mushrooms fodmap friendly?  Shiitake mushrooms are low FODMAP at servings of 1/2 cup cooked. Dried shiitake mushrooms are fine at servings of 40g. Enjoy shiitake mushrooms as a tasty, low-FODMAP addition to stir-fries and other dishes. What about oyster mushrooms? Fresh oyster mushrooms are low FODMAP at 1/2 cup cooked or 40g dried portions. Oyster mushrooms offer a delicate, savory flavor to low FODMAP recipes. What about portobello mushrooms? Yes, a single large portobello cap or 1/2 cup sliced portobello mushrooms are considered low FODMAP. Grill portobellos as a satisfying plant-based main course.  Are Enoki mushrooms low-FODMAP? Enoki mushrooms are certified low FODMAP at 1/2 cup cooked. Try these thin, mild mushrooms tossed into stir-fries or soups. What about chanterelle mushrooms?  Unfortunately, chanterelle mushrooms are not low FODMAP due to their mannitol content. Exclude these exotic mushrooms during the elimination phase of the diet. Can you champignon mushrooms be included?  Champignon mushrooms are simply the French term for white button mushrooms. So fresh champignons are low FODMAP in 1/2 cup portions. Are cremini mushrooms low-FODMAP? Cremini mushrooms are a brown variation of the white button mushroom. So they are also low FODMAP at servings of 1/2 cup cooked or 40g dried. What's the FODMAP content of mushrooms? Mushrooms contain FODMAPs like mannitol, fructans, and galacto-oligosaccharides. But in small serving sizes, the likes of button, oyster, and other mushrooms, are low enough in these FODMAPs to be allowed. Should you avoid canned mushrooms? Canned button or oyster mushrooms are low FODMAP as long as you drain and rinse them well. Canned products sometimes have high FODMAP ingredients added, so check the label.  Can you eat mushrooms if you follow a low-gluten or gluten-free diet? Yes, all fresh mushrooms are naturally gluten-free. Even packaged mushrooms labeled “gluten-free” are safe, as mushrooms don’t contain gluten to begin with.
Tips for Including Mushrooms in Your Diet.
Tumblr media
Here are some tips for mushroom lovers following a low FODMAP diet: - Stick to 1/2 cup serving sizes of button, oyster, shiitake, and other low FODMAP varieties. - Saute mushrooms in olive oil with garlic-infused oil or garlic salt for flavor. - Add mushrooms to omelets, pasta dishes, and pizzas (with gluten-free crusts). - Mix mushrooms into meatballs, burgers, or stuffings made with gluten-free bread. - Use thinly sliced portobello mushrooms as veggie burger substitutes. - Make mushroom gravy with lactose-free milk and gluten-free flour. - Enjoy mushroom soups made with low-FODMAP veggies and broths. - Marinate and grill portobello caps on the barbecue for hearty plant-based meals. - Add creaminess to risotto and pasta dishes with puréed, low-FODMAP mushrooms. - Always check packaged soups and sauces for mushrooms, even if labeled “gluten-free.” With some adjustments, you can still enjoy the rich, savory flavor of mushrooms. Just limit portion sizes and stick to the low FODMAP varieties for symptom relief.
What About High-Fructose Corn Syrup in Packaged Foods?
Many packaged foods, including some containing mushrooms, use high-fructose corn syrup as a sweetener. This additive is high in fructans and should be avoided in the elimination phase of the low FODMAP diet. Always check labels thoroughly. Should You Avoid Raw Mushrooms? Raw mushrooms naturally contain low amounts of FODMAPs. However, some people find raw mushrooms harder to digest. Cooking breaks down fibers and makes mushrooms easier on sensitive digestive systems. Still, having mushrooms raw in small portions on salads or as cruditÊs is unlikely to cause issues for most people following this diet. What About White Mushrooms? White mushrooms are simply immature button mushrooms before the caps open up and darken. So fresh white mushrooms have the same low FODMAP profile as regular button mushrooms, at 1/2 cup portions. White and brown types can be used interchangeably in low FODMAP recipes.
Tips to Avoid Problems from Mushrooms
While allowed on the diet, some people do find even low FODMAP mushrooms irritate their digestion. Here are tips to avoid potential problems from mushrooms: - Pay attention to personal tolerance, as everyone has unique trigger foods - Stick to the recommended serving sizes per meal - Ensure mushrooms are thoroughly cooked - don't eat large amounts that are raw - Rinse canned mushrooms before use to remove any sauce or seasonings - Don't add mushrooms to multiple dishes in one meal During the elimination phase, be cautious about including mushrooms. Reintroduce them slowly to assess your individual response. Slowly Reintroducing Mushrooms Some people with IBS find they can't tolerate mushrooms long-term. As you reintroduce foods, add mushrooms back in slowly. Start with small servings of well-cooked, low-FODMAP mushrooms like buttons or oysters. Monitor symptoms and adjust your portions and frequency of mushrooms accordingly. Work closely with a doctor or dietitian during reintroduction.

*Important Information For SIBO Sufferers
The low FODMAP diet recommendations in this article do not necessarily apply to people with Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO). While the diets for IBS and SIBO may overlap, there are some important differences to understand. The key thing is that in SIBO, there is an overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine, rather than the colon like in IBS. This means people with SIBO may react differently to certain foods: • Some high FODMAP foods that get absorbed in a healthy small intestine can actually feed the excess bacteria in SIBO and cause symptoms. This includes foods like garlic (in excess), onions, apples, and stone fruits. • However, other FODMAPs that make it intact to the colon - like sorbitol and mannitol in mushrooms - may not be an issue in SIBO.  • People with SIBO may also react to other foods not limited in the low FODMAP diet, like gluten or dairy. So while limiting high FODMAP foods can help some SIBO patients, it depends on the type of FODMAP and it needs to be tailored to the individual. It's best for those with SIBO to work with a specialist to develop a customized diet. In summary - the guidelines around mushrooms and other foods on a low FODMAP diet are specifically for managing IBS symptoms. People with SIBO should use caution applying this information and work with a professional on appropriate dietary changes for their unique needs.
Takeaway Tips on Mushrooms for a Low FODMAP Diet:
Tumblr media
Chanterelle mushrooms - avoid these Here are the key takeaways on eating mushrooms with IBS and on the low FODMAP diet: - Many common mushrooms like button and oyster are low FODMAP in 1⁄2 cup servings - Avoid chanterelle, morel, porcini, and king oyster mushrooms - Stick to portion sizes as excess mushrooms could trigger symptoms - Enjoy mushrooms as burger substitutes, pizza toppings, use in stir-fries, etc. - Check packaged foods containing mushrooms for high FODMAP ingredients - Always consult the Monash app for the most up-to-date mushroom advice While eliminating high FODMAP foods can be challenging, you don’t have to say goodbye to flavorful mushrooms. With the proper types and portions, mushrooms can be part of an IBS-friendly FODMAP diet.

How Does An Akik Gemstone Affect The Mind And Body?
Tumblr media
Introduction What is a Pearl? Pearls are formed when an irritant enters an oyster's shell, causing it to produce a substance called nacre. This substance coats the irritant, forming layers around it that eventually become smooth and lustrous. Pearls can be found in many different shapes and sizes. The most common pearl shape is round, but pearls can also be oval or baroque (irregular). Round Pearls Round pearls are the most common shape and also the most valuable. They're made up of a perfect sphere with a smooth surface, which makes them ideal for use in jewelry. Round pearls can range from 2mm to 10mm in diameter and are available in different colors such as white, pink and black. Baroque Pearls Baroque pearls are irregular in shape and have a unique, one-of-a-kind look. They're perfect for those who want to stand out from the crowd. Semi-Baroque Pearls Semi-baroque pearls are irregularly shaped and unique. They come in a variety of shapes, including: * Round * Oval * Heart-shaped (also called "pear" shaped) Button Pearls Button pearls are flat on one side, round on the other. They're often used in earrings because they can be easily attached to a post or backing. Rice Pearls Rice pearls are the smallest type of pearl, and they're often used in necklaces. They come in a variety of colors and shapes, including round, oval and baroque (a fancy word for irregular). Circle Pearls Circular pearls are often used in necklaces. They come in a variety of colors and sizes, from small to large. The shape makes them easy to string together, which is why they're so popular for jewelry makers. Circular pearls can be found in many different colors, including white and black. Keshi Pearls Keshi pearls are irregularly shaped and have a small size. They come in a variety of colors, including white, black and shades of gray. Keshi pearls are also known as "seed" pearls because they resemble seeds or grains of sand. Biwa Pearls Biwa pearls are the most irregular of all the pearls. They come in a variety of colors, including white, pink, purple and black. The size of these pearls can range from 6mm to 15mm in diameter, making them ideal for use as earrings or pendants. Not another Blake & Ryan Easter egg 👀
Popular nail artist @nailsbymei posted this fresh [Welcome to] New York set she hand painted for Blake Lively recently and, well, we see some sights:
Classic skylines, the Bklyn Bridge, quintessential snacks, iconic yellow cab...
Tumblr media
The ever-present I 🍎 NY, used for tourism campaigns like the one Taylor did for the city during the 1989 era...
Tumblr media
And the intersection of East 57th St and 5th Ave, a major, two-way thoroughfare of Manhattan surrounded by city iconography such as designer shops and department stores.
A NY Yankees hat, which, lol we know a London Boy can try to pull off but ends up making him look like a certified tourist (and not like someone who IS New York City)...
Tumblr media
Reference to Pearl Oyster Bar, located in the middle of Cornelia Street in the West Village...
🦪🦪🦪
You know, oysters, symbolizing Aphrodite the goddess of love, fertility, pleasure, and sex all through antiquity? Oysters, the symbol of obstacles to be overcome in order to get to hope (the pearl)? Oysters that can symbolize something you have kept deep within you for a long time? Oysters like the expression “the world is your oyster!” which is a remark about going out and getting what your heart desires?
Those.
They also happen to be really important to the history of NYC... so even though Pearl isn’t as iconic as the other illustrations, the fact that it’s on Cornelia Street, is associated with oysters which are for lovers (and in much art allude to erotic yonic energy and female genitalia), and is the literal bedrock of the history of New York...
I think we might have a new Taylor Swift Easter egg.
s/o SLF you know who you are 😏

Good Omens - “Risks and Consequences” (Rated PG13)
Summary: Crowley surprises Aziraphale with a surprise skating excursion on Christmas night during a suspicious snowstorm. (1436 words)
Read on AO3.
“You do enjoy shoving me headfirst out of my comfort zones. Don’t you, my dear?” Aziraphale asks, warily watching his husband strap a stiff black boot to his foot.
“Poppycock,” Crowley grumbles, struggling to unknot long laces he accidentally macramed while attempting to navigate the rows of eyelets and hooks. “Consider this an adventure.”
“This is certifiable! You do know that?”
“How? You’re an angel! What on Earth could happen to you?”
“A great many things, I imagine,” Aziraphale replies. It’s a thin response. Crowley can tell Aziraphale has a thought, a vivid one, of something plausible.
Something that has him concerned.
Crowley stops messing with the skate and looks into Aziraphale’s face. Aziraphale's gaze ducks and dodges, bouncing from his hands to his knees to other random things inside the confines of Crowley’s Bentley. But Aziraphale cant avoid Crowley’s gaze, nor Crowley himself, for too long. “Sometimes, I feel as if, one of these days, I’m going to snap my fingers, and nothing will happen. Heaven will have found a way to make me mortal or …”
“Or abandoned you altogether?”
Aziraphale nods sadly. “Yes.”
“I get those thoughts, too, sometimes,” Crowley admits, going back to fixing his angel’s skate. “Too often, really. Which probably explains why you use your magic so rarely, and I use mine all the time.”
“You’re always double-checking."
“And you’d rather not know.”
“Losing my powers wouldn’t be the worst part. Inconvenient, yes, but not terrible. Abandoned by Heaven …” Aziraphale's words drift off, but their meaning lingers, clinging to Crowley's heart and building like the snow outside their windows.
Crowley winks at his husband, trying to get him to smile, to laugh, to roll his eyes and groan Oh Lord! “It’s not so bad ..."
“... once you get used to it. So you keep telling me,” Aziraphale teases, gifting his husband with the tiniest of grins, gone all too swiftly. “Are you truly afraid of being abandoned by Hell?”
"Ngk ..." Crowley’s shoulders bounce a shrug back and forth as he thinks over his answer “... nah. Not really. They've already tried to exterminate me once, haven't they? It’s the consequences that come with it that would really suck: being mortal, having no powers, growing old …” Crowley’s eyes meet Aziraphale’s - melancholy blue eyes exposing those same fears, a subject his angel hasn’t felt comfortable bringing up before tonight. He still doesn’t seem comfortable with it, tight-lipped as an oyster. “But let’s not talk about that now,” Crowley suggests. “Tonight is for having ridiculous amounts of fun. Stirring up a little mayhem.”
“We’re going to get into trouble,” Aziraphale laments. “With the humans, I mean.”
“Nonsense. They'll never even know we were here."
“There are security cameras everywhere!”
“When was the last time you got caught doing anything on CCTV? It would be all over the Internet if you had! I'll fix it. You'll see.”
“By wasting another miracle? Or do you have a small army of rodents positioned on light poles, waiting to do your bidding?”
“Besides,” Crowley continues, overlooking the jab at what was one of his more masterfully executed, if not elaborate, schemes, “I’m not sure this is actually illegal. As long as we abide by all traffic laws and posted speed limits.”
“Where did you even get this idea?”
“From YouTube. The youths do it - barrel down frozen roads wearing bicycle helmets and hockey skates.”
"You're getting your evil ideas from children?" Aziraphale tuts. “Aren’t you supposed to be the bad influence? Not the other way around?”
“No shame in finding inspiration outside your own head.”
“Yes, well, I hope you skate better than you drive.”
“Oi! I am an excellent driver!”
“I know two rabbits and a squirrel who might disagree with you.”
“That wasn’t my fault! You’d think they’d know to get the Hell outta the way of a moving vehicle!”
“Speaking of which, we’re going to get hit by a car.”
“What car?” Crowley stops fiddling with Aziraphale’s skate to wipe down a fogged window and take a look around. Beneath the glow of the street lamps, he sees nothing but snow - a veil of flakes wafting down from the sky, pushed into swirls by the frigid wind. “No one’s out here! It’s three in the bloody morning after one of the worst storms London has had in years! You’d have to be insane to be outside!”
“My thoughts exactly,” Aziraphale mutters. “Bit early for a storm like this though, isn’t it?”
“Uh … maybe,” Crowley says, abruptly returning to his task.
“London isn’t due for snow until January.”
“Is that so? Strange.”
Aziraphale's brow furrows as he watches his husband focus intensely on basically nothing. “Crowley …”
“Wot?”
“Are you responsible for this?”
"Wot would make you think that?"
"Crowley. Look at me."
Crowley's head slowly lifts, eyes aimed everywhere but Aziraphale's face. At one point, he even closes them, assuming that, behind his dark lenses, Aziraphale won't notice.
But Aziraphale does notice. Even if Crowley were speaking to him from a completely different room, Aziraphale would notice.
Because, for a demon, Crowley happens to be an atrocious liar.
“It’s Christmas night!" Crowley pleads, unable to hold back any longer. "The perfect time for a lock-yourself-indoors-and-get-sloshed sort of snowstorm, a'right?"
“So why are we not inside getting sloshed then?”
“Because this is something I’ve wanted to do for a while! And I was gettin' tired of waiting for Mother Nature to accommodate. Plus, with climate change and global warming, nothing's guaranteed, is it?” Crowley moves on from Aziraphale's right foot and begins sliding his reluctant left foot into its skate. “Live a little!”
“I aim to live a lot, which specifically requires avoiding activities such as this." Aziraphale pauses his complaining to watch Crowley work, beyond curious what was going on inside his husband's demonic mind when he hatched this plan. "So," he says, working through the mystery out loud, "you conjured up a snowstorm, froze the streets, are in the process of strapping these awful contraptions to my feet ... would you like to tell me why?”
"Do I have to?"
"It would be nice."
"I'm a demon. I'm not nice."
"Crowley ..."
“Alright! It's because I wanted us to be together like this."
"Like what?"
Crowley sighs. "Like humans. And do the stupidly wonderful things humans do when they’re in love: take moonlit strolls, hold hands, kiss in the rain, all that sappy shite. Humans go skating at Christmas! It's, like, number three on their list of Yuletide activities. It's almost a requirement! Even if they can't stand steady in regular shoes, they go skating. And they cling to one another, and they laugh, and they kiss, and I … I didn't want to take the chance that if I waited, I might miss ..."
Nothing's guaranteed, Aziraphale thinks as he watches Crowley sink in on himself, head bowed over Aziraphale's feet, curling as if he wants to disappear. And Aziraphale begins to understand.
Crowley has been a ball of anxious energy for as long as Aziraphale can remember. Aziraphale doesn't blame him. Crowley has been tiptoeing through minefields since the beginning - making innocent mistakes and paying huge prices for them. As supernatural entities, it's easy to get lulled into the false sense of security that nothing bad can happen to you.
But that's not true.
Not at all true.
Because even a demon and an angel with magical powers aren't anywhere near the top of the food chain.
Crowley destroying Ligur with Holy Water proved that.
So did his belief that Aziraphale had been extinguished by Hellfire.
The fact that he hadn't been didn't prove Crowley wrong.
Hellfire would most definitely annihilate his angel from the face of the planet.
Crowley and Aziraphale helped save Earth for humanity, but every day, the humans work harder and harder towards their own destruction.
Nothing's guaranteed.
Not for anyone.
"If you don’t want to go skating, that’s fine. I know it’s risky. Probably the last way in the world you’d want to discorporate."
"I can think of worse ways," Aziraphale says with a chuckle.
"We can go back to your bookshop, make hot cocoa, listen to your gramophone or ... or something.”
“The biggest risk I’ve taken is sitting right here with me. And that’s worked out so far. For 6000 years, as a matter of fact. I don’t mind taking another one. Just … try not to let me fall.”
“Just hold on tight.” Crowley scoots down the bench towards his husband and wraps his arms around him. “I promise I won’t let you fall.”

Mario wrote his 7th blog post on the Miyagi Reconstruction Portal ^^
He started this series according to his job as a Miyagi Kizuna Ambassador. His task is to promote the local charms across the country.      According to that, this time what he’s promoting is the "Onagawa Ajillo". ^^
You can find my translation of his blog entry below. By all means, please have a read of it! ^^
Ordering the delicious [products] of Miyagi by Kuroba Mario Vol. 7
Everyone who is looking at the Miyagi Reconstruction Portal Site, good morning, good day, good evening, I’m Kuroba Mario!
Well then, the delicious order for this time is the Senrei “Onagawa Ajillo”!
Tumblr media
I relatively [often] eat Ajillo.
This time, it’s Sanriku Ascidian and Sanriku Oysters.
Oh, ascidian! Everyone, do you know about ascidian? I’m from Miyagi prefecture, so of course I know what it is, and I’ve eaten it many times, but maybe there are some of you who haven’t eaten it and doesn’t know what it is yet?
The “Sanriku Ascidian” is a seasonal ascidian added with the sourness of tomatoes, flavoured easily, so even those can eat it who aren’t good with eating ascidian.
Well then, at once
Tumblr media
It’s the scent of olive oil.
Bon appetite-!
Tumblr media
It’s delicious! It’s not a habit! Even if you’re not good at eating ascidian, you can eat it as a snack as it seems to be matching for pasta.
“Sanriku Oysters” has a compatibility with oysters and garlic, so you can eat it the way it is too, or you can use it for your favourite food, such as pasta sauce or gratin!
The company “Senrei Corporation” what creates the “Onagawa Ajillo” was established after the Great East Japan Earthquake. The “Ishimori Shoten Co., Ltd” what has been involved in the refrigeration and freezing business of fresh fish in Onagawa town, and the “Okasei Co., Ltd” what won the trust of the locals through their techniques in sales performance and processing, became one company, revived their strength, and they established [Senrei] in 2013 to provide world-class products with added rich value.
To transmit the delicious [products] of Onagawa to the world, in December 2017 they obtained the Advanced Hygiene Standard FSSC 22000 qualification. The FSSC 22000 qualification is a qualification system that certifies “handling food safely along with international rules”. It’s not only about the safety of the food itself, the additives and the materials for packaging are also a target for the qualification, so obtaining this qualification means they provide high quality products in various aspects. Senrei is truly a company that develops products they can be proud of in the world.
There are also recipes which can be prepared easily, so it’s a dish I’d like people who are not good with eating ascidian try!
Onagawa Ajillo, please [have some]!

#266 Controlling Your Fall
Phwoof what a day! You’re tumbling through the skies, the wind blowing through your hair, plummeting to your death. Somehow, either by luck or design, you’ve got this guide with you (Maybe it was in your pocket and you managed to pull it out, scan the table of contents, and flip to this page. Maybe someone else in the plane had it and it fell out with you and it just coincidentally opened up to this entry. It doesn’t matter!) so don’t worry, you’re going to be fine! (And if not, take solace in the fact that we’re going to be fine. Because our life forces are not bound to this guide and we exist separately from it.) People survive massive drops like this all the time. Sure, it’s not great that the plane or dirigible or hot air balloon or giant eagle you were flying exploded or unexpectedly dipped or got hijacked by sky-pirates who made you walk the plane, but by no means does it have to be fatal. All you need to do is learn how to make the most of this fall.
Now, depending on how high up you were when you began this one way journey towards the rapidly approaching ground, you don’t have a lot of time before we’re giving advice to a stain on the ground so we’ll try to make this quick. (That was a very long preamble {stop making unnecessary comments we are pressed for time!} If you were sooo worried about time you should’ve used a contraction there ya nerd.) First things first, are you wearing a parachute? If you are then you’re good to go and now would be a great time to open it up. If you’re not, for shame. You really should always be wearing a parachute. Superheroes live dangerous and thrilling lives. You never know when you’re going to be plummeting to your death. If you’re very small, like if you’re a shrinker or one of those new tehcnopunk hobbit superheroes that have started cropping up, you can try using the pages of this book as a parachute. That might work. (If you are using the digital version of this guide, which, I should point out, is the only version of this guide that exists at the moment, you cannot use it as a parachute unless a wireless printer is also falling alongside you.) If you don’t have a parachute, try sprouting wings from your back and simply flying to safety. Now, if you’re thinking, “this guide is a waste of my time, I can’t just sprout wings out of my back!” then I say, have you ever tried? While doing research for this post, we went around and interview people with wings and like 15% of them said that they first discovered their wings while plummeting to what they thought was going to be their death. (The majority of the people we interviewed were bird-people from Nimbus City and that was a genetic thing.)
Alternatively, as with all things, it’s always best to be prepared. If you take a few rudimentary, relatively simple precautions before you find yourself hurtling towards your death, you can ensure that you come out of any crash landing alive and well. We’ve already mentioned wearing a parachute at all times, but a jetpack or rocket boots would work just the same. As would keeping your jetpack choir close by at all times. A good trick you can use is training some type of flock or swarm of flying creatures to surround you at a moment’s notice and carry you to safety. Now, don’t take my vague language to mean that just any flying animal will work for this. Bats, for example, can only operate at night, and you might fall out of a helicopter during the day. (Stranger things have happened; once I woke up and my toes were celery. {What.}) Birds, of all species, are out too. You just can’t trust birds. They’ll probably steal your wallet or peck your eyes out. (What? What’s the problem. {You know you don’t have to comment on everything right? Some things you can let pass by.} I’m gonna let my fist pass by into your face.) Most flying mythical creatures know they’re too good to be doing menials tasks for you. So your best bet with this is really just training a bunch of flies (every two-three days to keep pace with the lifespan of the average housefly) to fly to your rescue anywhere in the world at a moment’s notice.
If you don’t have a parachute and you don’t have wings and you can’t call a swarm of gross flies to help you out then you need to focus on landing correctly. Sure, I can tell you all about tucking and rolling so you don’t break your legs. Or I can emphatically warn you not to land anywhere face first. (You will snap your neck and lose all your teeth and then nobody’s gonna want to hang out with you.) But I’m sure you already know all that. That’s just common sense. Instead I’ll tech you how to use quick thinking and a willingness to think outside of the box to survive this predicament. The key, the number one guaranteed trick, to surviving a fall, and this is from any height by the way- You could jump from the moon and this would work- (that’s true) is to aim for the nearest bounce house. According to a survey that we just conducted, there are approximately 13 billion bounce houses inflated in the contiguous US at any and all times. (We’re still waiting for the data from Alaska, Hawaii, and the US territories.) All you need to do is find them, and position yourself so that you land on one of them. Luckily for you you’re starting off with a pretty high vantage point, so you should have no trouble locating the closest bounce house. To move while in the air I recommend flailing your arms about randomly and frantically. This will catch the attention of wind spirits or perhaps the Cloud Hoppers who will help guide you towards your destination.
One of the most crucial things to remember as you pull off the perfect, death-defying landing, is to look cool while you do it. Remember, you’re a superhero, an oftentimes controversial public figure. You don’t want headlines the next day to read “Superjerk Ruins Orphan’s Birthday Party by Destroying Bounce House That Had Orphans In It.” So make sure to shout something when you get close to landing, so people know to vacate the premises. But don’t just scream like a baby, shout something cool like “Look out below!” or “Just thought I’d drop in!” or “This is your friendly neighborhood superhero, requesting permission for an emergency landing.” If they grant you permission, they can’t get mad at you later. Also, think about how you’re going to pose when you land. Since you’re landing in an inflatable bouncy house you can really do anything without having to worry about shattering any of your surprisingly brittle bones. (Once I woke up and my bones had been replaced by actual peanut brittle. {Again with the- did you upset a witch chef or something?} I can’t imagine how you could possibly think that that’s any of your business.) You can do the classic three-point superhero landing. You can put your hands behind your bed and cross your feet as if you’re just lounging about. You could do a backflip. The world is your oyster! Then all the headlines will read “Superjerk Makes Incredible Surprise Appearance at Orphan’s Birthday Party: Orphan Quoted As Saying ‘God That Guy is Cool I Wish He Was My Dad.’”
Nobody wants to fall from the sky, but that’s just life sometimes. As a superhero your likely to be wrestled out of an airplane, lose your powers mid-flight, get shot out of the sky for violating somebody’s airspace, crash into an invisible sky-city, or fall asleep while flying and start falling to your death. What you do next is up to you, but your situation is incredibly survivable as long as you take the proper precautions, or follow our certified and smart (and good) tips!

★ Rirekisho by Nakamura Kou, published by Kawade Shobou Shinsha. Because it gave me courage.
★ Tsubasa wa Itsu Made Mo by Kawakami Ken'ichi, published by Shuueisha. I simply thought that it was a really good book, and reading it made me want to read more books like it in the future.
★ Tsumetai Kousha no Toki wa Tomaru by Tsujimura Mizuki, published by Kodansha. This was the book that reminded me that I wanted to keep reading novels forever.

What To Do & Where To Eat in Santa Barbara
It’s been a hot minute since I traveled to California, which is really a shame since it’s a quick direct flight for me and it immediately feels like I’m in some far away vacation land. Well, that’s pretty much exactly what it is. Especially Santa Barbara. I hadn’t spent much time in Santa Barbara before this trip and now I’m wondering why it hasn’t been a normal yearly occurrence for me. This sleepy little ocean town has become a bustling area to try amazing food, sip on about a million glasses of wine, and take in the sea breeze as you dip your toes in the water. It’s just simply lovely.
And one of the best parts about being in Santa Barbara is that you can make your way into Santa Ynez Valley. I went to Santa Ynez Valley last year and absolutely fell in love with the area and this time around it was even more beautiful because of all the rain they have been getting recently. The rolling hills of the valley were so incredibly green and everywhere you turn there is another beautiful vineyard. It really is a breathtaking area. And since I didn’t check out the tiny town of Los Alamos when I was in SYV the year before, we decided to stay at the newly renovated Skyview Motel. You can see this iconic roadside motel from the highway and from downtown Los Alamos since it’s perched on a hillside overlooking wine country. And the motel itself includes a beautiful restauant, pool and the cutest rooms – many that include their own patio with personal firepit. I was welcomed by a cute cat each morning who loved our patio furniture as it’s bed. Since it wasn’t warm enough to hang out by the pool while we were there, we enjoyed some cocktails at the restaurant before making our way into town to try even more wine!
When you are in Los Alamos, you have a full block of restaurants, bakeries and tasting rooms to check out, so you can rent a bike from the Skyview Motel and bike into town for a buzzed and full afternoon. We first stopped in at Casa Dumetz for a wine tasting, a really really delicious wine tasting. I’m not huge in to wine or really even know what I like, but I know I enjoyed every single one of these wines. Casa Dumetz makes highly acclaimed reds and whites with premiere fruit grown exclusively in Santa Barbara County vineyards and the wine tasting room shows how much love goes into each one of these bottles.
And after you try the wine tasting, you can wander next door to Valle Fresh to enjoy some tacos and tapas while you check out all the beers and ciders in Babi’s Beer Emporium. All three spots are owned by chief winemaker Sonja Magdevski to ensure that everyone in your group is happy and satisfied. We ordered a carrot appetizer to get in some extra veggies on our trip, then we loaded up with delicious tacos. It was incredibly easy to eat gluten free here since all the taco shells are made in-house with corn. Everything was so fresh and delicious! We really loved this spot.
Then for our first dinner in Santa Ynez Valley, we made our way to Solvang (where I stayed last time) to the restaurant First & Oak. This restaurant is located inside the Mirabelle Inn and is considered one of the best spots in Santa Ynez Valley since it includes some of the most fresh local ingredients. First & Oak includes many small plates so you can try a ton of different things on their menu, and they recommend creating your own tasting menu to ensure you get the full experience. We ended up both trying a four-course tasting menu and I think three would have been a better idea because we were STUFFED. So so stuffed. I tried the lobster bisque, halibut, pork risotto and white chocolate meringue. Everything was fantastic and the server was so helpful making sure everything we ordered was gluten free! And if you are wine tasting during the day, the owners of First & Oak also own Coquelicot Estate Vineyard in Los Olivos, which is just a quick drive away from Solvang.
Another meal we had in Los Alamos while we stayed there was at Pico at the Los Alamos General Store. This restaurant is a beautiful spot that serves farm-to-table upscale comfort food. The restaurant also shares their building with local Lumen Wines where you can try all their wines in their tasting room. We tried the mushroom salad, brussels sprouts and short rib, and everything was so fresh and served up beautifully.
And before we left, we ended up eating at Plenty on Bell a couple of times for breakfast! We loved this spot and everything we tasted was cooked to perfection. I ordered the short rib hash and the short ribs and potatoes were both crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Many people also recommended Bob’s Well Bread Bakery but I didn’t see too many gluten free options on the menu so we stuck with Plenty instead. But if you don’t eat gluten free, I heard Bob’s is fantastic!
Then once we had our fill of the countryside, we made our way back to Santa Barbara to see all it has to offer. We were lucky enough to stay at the Ritz-Carlton Bacara and soak up this absolutely stunning property. This was my first time staying at a Ritz-Carlton resort and it completely lived up to its name. Not only was the staff incredibly attentive and helpful at every turn, but the property itself was perfection. There was always something to do, something to see, and some sort of drink to indulge in. The oceanfront property includes 2 miles of beach to walk on, a nature walk to take your dogs on (yes, it’s dog-friendly!), and they have beautiful pools, hot tubs, and fun games like bag toss and ladders throughout every corner. We spent almost an entire day on the property just having cocktails and playing games. There was really no point in leaving!
Two things I can’t recommend enough is eating at Angel Oak for Sunday brunch AND checking out the Club Lounge on the property. While we ate at Angel Oak for brunch, we were able to sit on the patio overlooking the ocean while professional whale watchers looked on for any signs of whales swimming by. We sadly didn’t get to see any whales ourselves but many people talked about the whales they had seen earlier. I ordered the cobb crab salad when we ate here and it was AMAZING! I hate salads but I ate every bite of this one.
But if you don’t get to see any whales, not to worry, the Club Lounge will keep you happy and entertained. The Club Lounge is very exclusive since they only let about 30-35 rooms enjoy the services that the Club has to offer. In the Club, you’ll have a personal concierge to help you with anything you need whether you need a glass of wine or champagne or a house-made latte. Then you also have a ton of amazing snacks to choose from, including gluten free snacks and treats. I spent so much time in this lounge working on my computer, enjoying breakfast, and getting some snacks to take on the go. It was such an amazing spot to relax and unwind while catching up on work. I loved it so so much!
Then for our first dinner in Santa Barbara, we headed to Les Marchands Restaurant and Wine Shop. This spot was named “Wine Bar of the Year since it is led by a world-class team of certified sommeliers and wine profressionals. You’ll also find more than 400 selections of wine at this spot. So if you’re a wine lover, this is definitely your spot! I found it a tad more challenging to find gluten free items here since many of their entrees are pasta or include wheat, but we still enjoyed a fantastic waygu steak while we were there!
Then for our last full day in Santa Barbara, we finally took a break from all the wine and got to moving. We wandered around Stearns Wharf & Harbor to see all the shops, then we walked down by the ocean, then finally made our way to state street and into Salt. In downtown you would never know that you can find the largest Himalayan salt cave in North America. I always see people with Himalayan salt lamps next to their bed and I never really knew why, but I found out in my own salt session that Himalayan salt has a ton of different benefits like supporting respiratory health, promoting sinus health, preventing muscle cramps, and promotes bone strength, along with a ton of other benefits. And while you’re in the Salt Cave, you can simply enjoy a 45-minute meditation session or you can always book a treatment such as a massage, scrub or a Nexneuro vibration treatment. It’s all very earthy and crunchy, and I love it. It was a great way to break up the day and do something a little different.
Then after we meditated, we went straight to Tyger Tyger. Curry is a dish I could eat for every single meal and I talk about it quite frequently. So when my friend found out I was heading to SB, she said I absolutely HAD to eat at Tyger Tyger and order the pork curry. And HOT DAMN I’m so glad I listened to her because it was lifechanging curry. Not just good or great or amazing. It was LIFECHANGING. We also tried the Malayasian Curried Cauliflower and I almost licked my plate. I couldn’t get enough of this spot. Everything on their menu is marked gluten free and/or vegan, which makes it extremely easy to order. And it’s so unique compared any other spots because within the location, you’ll also find Dart Coffee and Monkey Shine ice cream. And the ice cream has an Asian flair to eat because you’ll find selections like Black Sesame and Mango Sticky Rice soft serve with fruity and crunchy toppings to sprinkle all over.
And for my last meal in Santa Barbara, my friend took me to LoQuita to enjoy some traditional cooking methods of Spain. I’ve never been to Spain but now it’s at the top of my list after experiencing LoQuita. This meal was absolutely fantastic, I can’t say enough about it. Everything was so incredibly fresh and flavorful. Like OMG flavorful. We enjoyed the Jamón tasting, the oyster mushrooms, cauliflower, spanish tortilla, and FANTASTIC chorizo paella. If you are ever in Santa Barbara, this spot is a complete must!!
I hope this post gives you some inspiration to create your own Santa Barbara trip in the future! I can’t say enough about Santa Barbara and Santa Ynez Valley. They are both amazing places to visit that aren’t overwhelmed by traffic and people. It’s just a great place to get away, relax and enjoy all that California has to offer. And now I’m already planning my next trip back so I can check out even more restaurants when I’m there! Be sure to read below because I have even more recommendations for when you are there!
Quick Summary of my SYV & SB Trip Favorites:

ParadICE Hawaiian Shave Ice
The Lark
The Lucky Penny for gluten free pizza

Ty Lounge at Four Seasons Resort in Montecito – official drink of Santa Barbara
And there are also about a million things to do while you’re in Santa Barbara –
Go to Stearns Wharf & Harbor
Check out The Funk Zone – one of the cutest areas in Santa Barbara with lots of shops, restaurants and wine tasting rooms. It reminds me of RiNo in Denver because it’s filled with old warehouses and manufacturing plants with a ton of artists’ studios and galleries, breweries and other shops. It’s a total different feel from everything else you find in Santa Barbara
Go on the Urban Wine Trail – more than 2 dozen wine tasting rooms all within blocks of downtown, which means you don’t have to drive into the valley and you can ditch your car and walk to almost any of them without worrying about how you will get home once you enjoy a few too many tastings. Here are just some of the tasting rooms you can check out –
Kunin Wines
Santa Barbara Wine Collective
The Valley Project
Riverbench Santa Barbara
Wineries of the Presidio Neighborhood
Go to the Farmers Market! It’s held almost every day in a different spot so you can always get the freshest ingredients, no matter what day it is.

Go to Montecito for some fancy shopping
Wander down State Street for cool stores and shops
This trip was hosted by Visit Santa Ynez Valley and Visit Santa Barbara, but all opinions are my own!

LE SSERAFIM - FEARLESS ep (review)
Tumblr media
YAS FINALLY THEY ARE HERE, LE SSERAFIM!
i don't want this post sound like wikipedia sh*t but small intro, the hybe (source music) new girl group finally debuted. 🥳 consist of chaewon, sakura, yunjin, garam, kazuha and eunchae, istg we all thrilled by all of that introduction trailer with fashion show vibes, certified glam and sassy.
moving on to the album itself, an ep, their first mini album consist of 5 tracks with overall 14 mins playtime. solid debut i would say.
The World Is My Oyster - a great intro. i really love how this sounds actually, like you were in the louis vuitton fashion show kind of vibe and IT SCREAMS SO POWERFUL. i don't analyse the lyrics tbh but for sure it kind of self-empowering stuffs going on. IN THREE LANGUAGES YAS GO QUEENS.
FEARLESS - main title and THEY SERVED. ngl i am impressed on how they did the synchronized choreo from the mv. catchy, light and fresh, that's how i'm described it. the way they just go all out and not censoring the b word is so rare in kpop industry and i kinda like it hahaha.
Blue Flame - this one actually define all essential pieces on what catchy kpop song should sounds like. it comes with choreography too. i guess this one reflected the soft side of them but vocal performance in this one is TOO good to be true. a great b-side to introduce to new listener.
The Great Mermaid - WHY DO I LOVE THIS ONE SO BAD?! this track is heavy with voice manipulation and autotune stuffs in a good way to produce such output (how do i say this...) and istg i like it so much. once again uncensored s word SUPER POWERFUL and rhythm so good to vibe together in car with your friends.
Sour Grapes - most soft and dreamy tracks among all. but serves very much great vocal over here. the beat is also light and catchy. we all love the vocalization and yes they served. no wonder a lot of fans love this one so much. personally love the bridge and i guess that's chaewon part? PLEASE IT IS SO GOOD.
obviously my favourite is The Great Mermaid 🧎‍♂️❤️ and i just can't justify it. i guess it's a good start for le sserafim and i predict bright future for them. tmi the group's name are anagram of i'm fearless. ok stop hybe you guys are genius stAph.

Best Seattle Lunch Restaurants: Top 10Best Restaurant Reviews
New Post has been published on https://www.travelonlinetips.com/best-seattle-lunch-restaurants-top-10best-restaurant-reviews/
Best Seattle Lunch Restaurants: Top 10Best Restaurant Reviews
Tumblr media
During busy weeks, lunch is often relegated to leftovers from the night before or a quick meal found out of convenience. So while traveling, one of the luxuries becomes mapping out enough time in your itinerary to track down and enjoy a leisurely lunch, which provides just one more chance during the day to truly take in the flavors of a city.
In Seattle that means immersing yourself in numerous Asian cuisines while on a treasure hunt in Seattle’s International District, where import and gift shops neighbor Japanese sushi joints, Korean barbecue hubs and Vietnamese eateries. Even beyond this part of town, sushi and teriyaki spots abound and make for a tasty, affordable lunch.
If something on the gourmet circuit is in order, lunchtime proves a great time to check out ultra-chic, celebrity chef eateries at a discount; try daytime menus at otherwise pricey venues. Guaranteed go-to meals can be found at numerous brewpubs, too, where chefs tend to keep things interesting to match the creativity of local brewers.

Awhile back, tourist favorite Ivar’s unveiled a massive transformation at its flagship location on Pier 54, located on Seattle’s waterfront overlooking Elliott Bay. The stunning remodel, the biggest in the storied eatery’s 77-year history, means expanded indoor dining space, a brand-new outdoor patio, enhanced state-of-the-art kitchen and a completely refreshed interior that pays homage to the iconic restaurant’s roots. If you prefer dining alfresco, enjoy a meal on the picture-perfect patio deck, while taking in the sights and sounds of Elliott Bay. To satisfy your craving for Northwest seafood, Ivar’s chefs have created award-winning preparations to reflect the season’s bounty, yet they continue to showcase Ivar Haglund’s world-famous original recipes. Choose between dishes that feature wild Alaska salmon, deep-water halibut, Alaska King Crab, Dungeness Crab, jumbo prawns, manila clams and weathervane scallops, to name a few of the eatery’s fresh, regional delights.
Recommended for Lunch because: Ivar’s flagship location on Pier 54, located on Seattle’s waterfront overlooking Elliott Bay, proves a popular tourist spot to enjoy fresh seafood with a view.
Corinne’s expert tip: Also, located on the street fronting the restaurant, the Fish Bar offers take-out service and casual outdoor dining until 11 p.m. For another waterside dining experience, head north of Lake Union to enjoy Ivar’s Salmon House.

It won’t take much time here in Seattle before you hear about this popular Pioneer Square outpost. For great Italian sausages, salamis, meatballs or pork, try Salumi, whose name means “dry-cured meat” in Italian. Meats can be purchased individually as an entree or by the pound as deli take-away. If you prefer a lighter, less meat-intensive meal, order a half-sandwich (try the salumi banh mi or veggie melt), salad, vegetable dish or one of their pastas. A comfortable interior with tin ceilings and wooden floors makes guests feel at home; outside tables are available too (on a first-come, first-served basis). Check hours ahead of time (currently open Tuesday to Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
Recommended for Lunch because: Salumi is THE lunchtime spot for quality meats and sandwiches; pick up goodies from Coro by Salumi, the country’s only woman-owned certified salami company.
Corinne’s expert tip: Be sure not to miss take-away offerings by Coro by Salumi (try the mole and agrumi), the country’s only woman-owned certified salami company (run by Clara Veniard and Martinique Grigg). Their goods can be purchased online or found at local stores like PCC, Made in Seattle, Met Market, Town and Country and DeLaurentis.

Sophie and Eric Banh grew up eating street food in Saigon, and thanks to these siblings’ vision and talent, Seattle diners now get to experience their sophisticated, creative takes on authentic Vietnamese fare at Ba Bar. (The restaurant’s named for their dad; “ba” means “father” in Vietnamese.) Located in a stylish, industrial setting, the vibe is warm in this welcoming space, located on the cusp between Capitol Hill and the Central District. Amongst Ba Bar’s paper lanterns and vintage artwork, the breakfast menu can be enjoyed daily. Dishes take on a more traditional Vietnamese bent, rather than reflecting Western sensibilities. For example, diners dive into show-stopper items like Banh Xeo; a crispy crepe of shrimp and pork belly rolled up with bean sprouts, fresh herbs and nuoc cham; or Sai Gon Beef Stew, a mouthwatering combination of lemongrass, star anise and anato seed oil.
Recommended for Lunch because: Sophie and Eric Banh grew up eating street food in Saigon; thanks to these siblings’ vision, Seattle diners enjoy creative takes on authentic Vietnamese fare.
Corinne’s expert tip: Thanks to the use of rice ingredients, many Ba Bar items are gluten-free, and several are vegan, too. Check out the newer Ba Bar locations in South Lake Union and University Village, too.

In West Seattle, Marination Ma Kai brings the delectable flavors and happy vibes of Hawaii to a stunning beachside setting (near Alki). The venue’s Hawaiian-Korean cuisine “melts delicate heat and the flavors of aloha together in [diners’] mouths,” while the expansive patio offers to-die-for skyline and water views. As the owners put it, “it started with a truck, some exquisite marinades and a lotta love,” and now, more than one million tacos and five years later, Marination has expanded to three separate venues and “one big aloha family.” Loyal fans rave about the Kimchi Fried Rice Bowl, spicy pork tacos, award-winning Pork Katsu Sandwich, the boozy shave ice bowls, hibiscus-tinged cocktails, the special tangy “NUNYA” sauce and so much more. At Marination, life is good!

Keep your eyes peeled, or you may just drive past this little Caribbean eatery, home to what many refer to as “the best sandwich in Seattle.” Indeed Paseo offers a terrific change of pace from standard options found at quick-food joints, doing a healthy amount of take-out business as well as hosting dine-in visitors at its friendly yet compact spaces in SoDo and Fremont, too. Loyal regulars swear by the kitchen’s grilled pork sandwiches with slow-caramelized onions, dinner-sized orders of spicy black beans and rice, chicken, and more. Seasonal seafood dishes are also available, and popular sides include the eatery’s “Famous Roasted Corn.”
Recommended for Lunch because: Many claim that Paseo (“a little Caribbean eatery in SoDo and Fremont”) is home to the best sandwich in Seattle.
Corinne’s expert tip: Happy hour—Tuesday through Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m.— means deals on Caribbean roast nachos, half-citrus salads, half-sandwiches with fries and other alluring temptations.

A quintessential Seattle experience consists of having a meal at Ray’s. (At lunchtime, head upstairs to Ray’s Cafe.) Views of the mountains and the water, especially in sunset’s glow, thrill diners almost as much as the cuisine. Located close to Golden Gardens, this venue makes the perfect dining spot before or after a windswept or sun-tinged day at the beach. While many dishes have Asian flair (like pan-seared scallops in green curry or kasu-marinated black cod), others revel in simple preparations, like oysters on the half-shell, crab cakes and grilled wild salmon. The downstairs venue offers upscale dining; the cafe upstairs is a bit more casual. A wonderful wine list ensures that you’ll have a terrific vintage to complement the food.
Recommended for Lunch because: A quintessential Seattle experience consists of having lunch at Ray’s Cafe (served with a view!), located in between Ballard and Golden Gardens beach.
John’s expert tip: At lunchtime, head to Ray’s Cafe (upstairs); this restaurant proves the perfect pit stop during a day out in Ballard or at Golden Gardens beach.

In spring 2019, Zylberschtein’s Delicatessen & Bakery owner and baker Josh GrunigI decided to realize his dream of opening a Jewish deli, focusing on recipes inspired by his family’s past. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, supported in a huge part by the Pinehurst neighborhood of which it’s part, this small, family-owned businesses allowed Josh to offer a menu “that is all about comfort food and nostalgia, from our exceptional house-made breads and bagels to cured meats and pickles (my dad’s specialty). And of course our fresh baked pastries.” Breakfast specials range from bagels and lox to potato hash, while lunch highlights include pastrami, cornbeef and Reuben sandwiches served with Russian potato salad, classic potato salad, fries or coleslaw. (Babka buns and popular Pinehurst Poutine are weekend specials.)

Enjoy sustainable seafood at one of Fremont’s most popular lunchtime outposts, Local Tide. This airy cafe brightens the neighborhood with its friendly service and tasty Northwest offerings. The team here feels fortunate to have access to incredible ingredients from land and sea, and aims to support all the like-minded small businesses and communities that make this possible. They source locally and sustainably whenever possible; don’t miss the weekend crab rolls, the everyday salmon sandwich (served slow-poached and cold with butter lettuce, house tartar and pickled red onions, in a warm brioche bun), the tasty rockfish (served on a banh mi sandwich with fermented veggies and housemade mayo or in a bowl) or the Veggie Sando for vegan diners.
