"Two of the characters who had the most visceral interaction with Sauron's manipulations and cruelty defying death and instead coming back stronger to kick his ass" is the mental elevator pitch I had that initially endeared me to both the characters and the pairing.
So yeah, I agree with this - Adar could provide ways for Celebrimbor to contextualize and survive/heal from his experiences, while Celebrimbor would provide hope and acceptance for Adar.
They'd be such a good, layered, interesting pairing tbh. Platonic or romantic. I am SO sad they never got to meet.
I ship Adar with most main characters, but I honestly believe he could have developed an incredibly significant relationship with Celebrimbor.
Because as cruel and manipulative as Sauron was to Galadriel, he didn't torture her in the same way he did Celebrimbor (and I don't mean the arrows). He did a bit of mind fuckery with the whole vision of her brother. But with Celebrimbor, he trapped him in a mind palace and fucked his mind up so badly that Celebrimbor was completely oblivious not only to what was going on in Eregion, but to the state of his own health and cleanliness.
And I think Sauron definitely did similar things to Adar.
Adar genuinely empathizes with Celebrimbor, but he decides to start to seduce Celebrimbor to torment Sauron. Not that he plans on pretending to feel more than he does; he's attracted to him, but not in love and doesn't plan on lying about that. But he wants to piss off Sauron.
Only he realizes Celebrimbor is much too fragile for a relationship of that type, so he backs off and offers friendship instead.
The two know/knew many of the same elves.
And somewhere along the way, Adar begins serving as something of a therapist for his ex's exes.
But he and Celebrimbor become very close and eventually get together.

Melkor
You must have the courage to tell Melkor that, especially when you know that he is interested in you.
He would probably find out from one of his spies that you wish to give up your immortality for a human man.
So, he sends Mairon to get that man and have him tortured.
It all happened in front of your eyes, while you were being held down.
"You must always remember that your choice has consequences"
Annatar/Sauron
You didn't know that Annatar is Sauron, he befriended you to the point where you told him all your secrets.
As if he doesn't already know all your secrets.
However, you made the mistake of telling him about your human lover.
Annatar has become obsessed with you, already deciding that you will rule beside him for eternity, therefore, he can't allow you to give up your immortality.
"It saddens me to see your tears, I'm sure your lover is in a much better place now"
Maedhros
He has known you since childhood, so it displeased him greatly when you informed him that you have a human lover.
He tried to appear supportive of your relationship but deep down he was feeling pure rage.
He finally snapped when you informed him that you wished to become mortal.
Maedhros killed his own kin, what makes you believe he won't do the same to your human lover.
"You belong to me, I will take you as my wife so you don't have to give away your mortality."
Thranduil
"You would willingly choose the fleeting years of a mortal? Forsake the eternal beauty of our kind?"
The king of Mirkwood considered it treachery to choose a human lover over him.
Yes, you are not in love with him, but he is your king, and he believes that he deserves to have you whether you want it or not.
Thranduil would probably order the death of your lover in secret then blame it on Orcs.
And use the opportunity to blame you and make you feel guilty for falling in love with a human man.
Celebrimbor
He taught you everything about crafting, expecting in return your complete love and devotion to him.
But instead you only thought of him as an older brother...even a father if you dare admit.
This infuriated Celebrimbor especially when he discovers that you are in love with a human man.
You chose a human over the grandson of Fëanor who created the Silmarils?!
"Believe me, locking you up is the best option to prevent you from committing such foolishness, my dear."
Adar
His children 'The Orcs' captured you and your lover while you two were journeying together.
Adar took a great interest in you and was amused by your relationship with a human man.
And when your lover reveals that you will become a human for him, Adar only smirks in amusement before ordering his execution.
He has finally found a 'mother' for his children.
"Weeping will do you no good, my dear"

I have some meta and Sauron psychology I cooked up last night and wrote down.
This idea of Sauron’s “perfect world” and his attachment to key figures like Adar, Celebrimbor, and Galadriel reflects his narcissistic obsession with control, admiration, and possession. In his mind, these people are essential to building his vision of a world that embodies his ideals of order, beauty, and power. In true narcissist fashion, he sees their rejection not as a failure of his vision or his methods, but as their failure to understand or appreciate what he is offering:
Adar as his lieutenant: Adar's refusal to submit to Sauron was surely shocking to him. Sauron must have seen Adar as the perfect lieutenant: someone with a shared dark past, capable of helping him enforce order. When Adar betrayed him, Sauron would have interpreted it as a personal affront, not as a clash of ideology. His need to have Adar by his side wasn't just about utility; it was about validation, 'cause it would have proven that even a former servant of Morgoth could see the brilliance of Sauron’s design. Adar's rebellion challenges Sauron’s perception of his infallibility, making him angrier and more driven to prove that he was right, that Adar made a mistake.
Celebrimbor as his colleague/friend: Sauron clearly admired Celebrimbor’s craft, and he sought to cultivate a partnership. He wanted Celebrimbor to mirror his own love for creation and control through the crafting of the Rings. When Celebrimbor resisted Sauron’s manipulation, it likely baffled Sauron because he saw them as kindred spirits: two craftsmen who could shape the future together. To Sauron, their shared intellect and skill should have been enough to bond them, but when Celebrimbor sees through Sauron’s deception and refuses to join him, Sauron’s reaction was fury masked by a lot of gaslighting. He saw Celebrimbor’s refusal as a betrayal of the very gifts that made him special, leading Sauron to feel that Celebrimbor failed him, not the other way around.
Galadriel as his queen/wife: Galadriel holds the most unique and intimate place in Sauron’s vision. His admiration for her power and beauty drives his obsessive desire to make her his queen. But her rejection cuts the deepest, because it's not just a political or practical refusal, it’s personal. Galadriel represents the one person Sauron views as capable of standing beside him as an equal (or almost-equal) sharing in the rule of his "perfect" world. When she refuses, it shatters his idealized vision of their potential, yet he cannot let go of her. Her refusal challenges his self-image in a way that none of the others can. Sauron’s narcissistic reaction naturally leads him to blame her for not seeing the opportunity he’s offering, fueling his descent into anger and obsession. Her rejection forces him to tighten his grip on control, but his need for her acceptance continues to haunt him.
In all three relationships, Sauron’s possessive attachment reveals a key aspect of his psychology: his need for admiration and validation, not just dominance. He sees these individuals as necessary parts of his design because they reflect parts of himself — craftsmanship, power, leadership, beauty — that he values most. When they reject him, it not only enrages him but also destabilizes his sense of superiority. Narcissists often believe that their vision is the only one that matters, and when others fail to fall in line, it becomes their fault, never his.
This unhinged reaction to rejection also makes him more dangerous, as he becomes willing to destroy what he once admired. It’s not that he wants to, but his need to preserve his self-image and punish those who oppose him drives him to extremes. In Galadriel’s case, this dynamic could become particularly poignant because her rejection is so deeply intertwined with his feelings of love and obsession.

rings of power season 2 light spoilers. x reader fic ideas for the second season of rings of power, these are more concepts than fully fleshed out ideas, please feel free to use!
celebrimbor: you traveled with galadriel and halbrand in S1, you arrive at Eregion injured, celebrimbor is a good friend and is mortified to see you so injured, helps take care of you as the elvish rings are made (and after). also anything with fluff or him being affectionate. maybe you resided in Eregion for a long time before your travels with galadriel and celebrimbor was worried that he had missed his shot with you.
annatar: met you as halbrand, jealous of your closeness to celebrimbor in Eregion, tries to get your attention, maybe tells you stories of Valinor/ the Valar, etc. maybe when he “reveals himself” to you and celebrimbor he heals your wounds to even further prove he is who he says he is.
sauron: MORE YES HELLO, you were a fellow maiar who accompanied sauron on his journey with melkor/morgoth and escaped adar just in time to not be “killed” as sauron was long ago. you saw the light shoot into the sky and felt the ice grip the land, and you ran, knowing the uruk would be coming for you next (having at least equal blame for the uruks’ suffering). you ran across middle earth, moving from town to town before adars forces could find you. you end up in the final town that adar plunders before the numenorian forces arrive and you are reunited with your “king of the southlands”. halbrand thought adar had killed you long ago but this was a pleasant surprise, his queen was with him again. he takes you to eregion with galadriel and eventually reveals himself to celebrimbor, while you reveal yourself as another heavenly visitor.
adar: you were one of the first age elves taken by morgoth/melkor, before you were fully corrupted by morgoth or sauron, adar lets you go (or can’t bring himself to stop you from escaping). you spend time in lindon recovering, eventually travel with galadriel to help her look for sauron (while you look for adar). you reunite in the southlands before Mt. Doom erupts, he keeps you close to him in Mordor.
elrond: you and elrond were not so easily convinced to whole heartedly support the wearing of the elvish rings. he goes to you for comfort (when he was on the run or when he was back in Gil Galad’s trust). maybe he’s in Eregion when you come back injured from Mordor with halbrand and galadriel and he stays with you as you heal. maybe halbrand starts showing too much interest in you while in Eregion and elrond doesn’t like it one bit.
gil galad: (lord is this man tall, and all the close up’s on his hands are doing me no good) literally anything for gil galad. please.
nsfw ideas: you’ve taking a walk in the outskirts of the forest with one of the elves, you stumble upon a flower (s*x pollen).

As we get closer to the end of S2, I'm going more insane over who the surprise kiss is going to involve and whether they are going to go You Know Where. I keep playing the process of elimination game with any character who might share a scene with Galadriel at this point, and I just can't conceive who it could possibly be other than Sauron.
Elrond? It would come out of nowhere, they've said in interviews that Galadriel and Elrond's relationship is platonic, and there'd be the weird "kissing my future MIL" aspect of it.
Celebrimbor? Again, it would come out of nowhere, and Charles Edwards said in an interview that they aren't going with the "Celebrimbor had an unrequited crush on Galadriel" direction.
Gil-galad? Once again, out of nowhere, and it would just be weird and uncomfortable?
Arondir (since we know he shows up for the Battle of Eregion)? Unless Galadriel is his rebound for losing Bronwyn, it would make no sense and they've barely interacted in the series.
A minor elf character (Camnir, Mirdania, etc)? Again, it would come totally out of nowhere, and if it's significant enough for Morfydd to mention it, I really think it'll be with a main character. Plus, where would they go with that, since we know she eventually ends up with Celeborn one way or another?
Speaking of which...Celeborn? Still not 100% convinced that he might not make a very surprise appearance, but it just doesn't seem to fit with the "shocking" description nor the fact that some reviewers who have seen it threw an absolute fit over it apparently.
Adar? This is the one contender that I could see making *some* sense (not as much as Sauron though). There's definitely chemistry there, if not of any romantic sort (as of now), and we know they're going to have some big scenes together in the upcoming episodes. It would fall into the "shocking" category for sure, and I could see lorebro reviewers losing it over it for the same reasons as they would over Sauron. However, right now, I don't see it fitting into the story anywhere, plot-wise or thematically. But right now, it would make more sense than any of the prior possibilities.
Am I crazy that this just leaves Sauron? The character who they have spent two seasons establishing a connection with her and emphasizing that they are still very hung up over each other? The character who, whether you ship them or not, she has the deepest and best chemistry with? The character with whom a kiss would fit thematically (touch the darkness, etc)? Plus, I can think of multiple likely scenarios that it could occur during (a vision, as part of a Galadriel corruption arc if they go there, etc). And it would definitely be shocking and send lorebros into absolute conniption fits.
Like, I know I'm biased because I want it to be them, but truly is there anyone else it would make any sort of sense with? Tell me I'm not crazy (or tell me I am and explain what you're guessing/seeing that I'm not)?

Episode 2.5 of "Rings of Power" was fantastic!!! 😀 One of their best, if not the best of the season with all those twists, performances, and Easter eggs. Going to put the spoilery stuff behind a cut but loved that a post jokingly made last year about how I thought Sauron was going to start acting like Spike from "Buffy" actually happened with that one scene. LOL 😂
Both the Charlies did amazing last night as Sauron/Annatar and Celebrimbor!!! 😀 From seeing how Sauron is manipulating Celebrimbor and getting him to make the 9 rings for the men now too, and then Celebrimbor is starting to regret this and it's getting so sad knowing what's coming. I still think we won't see who the 9 men are till next season with Battle of Eregion being the next 3 episodes, but nice to see this storyline starting and Sauron also talking about Numenor and knowing he'll go back there at some point.
Then the scene with Sauron and Mirdania where he compared her to Galadriel and touched her hair was crazy to actually see happen!!! 😀 A lot of us wondered if something like that would and also show that Sauron still thinks about Galadriel all the time with how much the actresses look alike. I know it was also to get Mirdania on his side, but that's the scene I mentioned about Spike from "Buffy". I jokingly wondered if something like this would happen as on that show Spike was in love with Buffy but she hated him and wanted nothing to do with him, so he started dating Harmony who also looks like her. There was even one moment where they role played with her as Buffy. LOL Eventually Spike's ex Drucilla kidnapped both Buffy and Harmony and forced Spike to admit he was in love with Buffy. So this brought back a lot for me being a Spuffy shipper, and seeing the similarities with Haladriel. I don't think this show is going to go any further with it like "Buffy" did, but I do think this showed more about Sauron's feelings for Galadriel and that they are real.
Then great storylines with the dwarves and showing how the rings are both helping and corrupting them. Then Disa finding the balrog, and the Doors of Durin being made. Also the Numenor plot is getting better but also tragic as the war has started and Kemen killed Valandil!!! 😲 Sad to see them destroy the temple too and arresting Elendil and going after Miriel. Plus, teasing Ar-Pharazon already thinking about Valinor.
Also great to see what visions Gil Galad is getting from his ring and Elrond trying to get him to help Eregion. And glad the see the ep end with Galadriel with Adar and the orcs and setting up the begining of their alliance. Can't wait to see what they talk about next week, and again the Battle starts next week too.

I can’t be the only person who’s HC is that Celebrimbor will sleep with just about any race
Human: sure
Elf: a little predictable but all right
Dwarf: love those beards
Maia: hell yeah!
Uruk: if it’s the right one *coughadarcough*
the other Elves, especially Gil-Galad dread hearing about his latest boyfriend bc really Celebrimbor a dwarf?

We don't want to brag, but this might be our highest level episode of the podcast yet. Rings of Power 2x06 "Where is He?" still has us thinking of analysis we want to add. But it's good we can't, because this episode is almost 2 hours long! Discussion preview above, and time stamps below the cut.
As usual, we're talking most about Númenor. We examine the beautiful tension expressed between Eärien, Elendil, and Míriel, as well as the implications of the Sea Trial for our beloved Queen of the Sea. Kat also gives a detailed thematic read of "The Mariner's Wife" from The Unfinished Tales, connecting Aldarion and Erendis' story to the conflicts we're seeing in Númenor.
Then we gush about Disa and Durin. Wren gets super meta too, analyzing the big picture POV choices the writers are making, and introducing what she calls the "TROP as LeGuinian Tolkien" theory, discussing what Rings of Power understands about Frodo and Gollum.
Listen through for some slick beats and fresh takes, wherever you get your podcasts.

HELLO! How are we all feeling?
Well, we are ALL IN OUR FEELINGS after an incredible finale...which hurt us in many ways. We did have some criticisms, and decided to tackle those first before ending on a high. So, if you want to jump around, timestamps follow!
We start with our thoughts on the big Sauron and Galadriel scene (00:04:09) before concluding that much of our anxiety over how this was handled is to do with our disappointment over Galadriel's place in the show and her character arc (00:26:37). Our critique carries through as we talk through everything Rhun (00:43:32).
Our positivity bursts back into being, possibly surprisingly, when we get to Pelargir (00:49:51) and then Numenor (01:00:05). We get emotional over Durin III (01:10:30) and then tackle all the 'little elfy bits' (01:15:19). Finally, we discuss Adar with a slice of mental health + fandom (01:24:48) before finishing with our farewell to Celebrimbor (01:35:55).
We're aware that we started running out of time at the end, but if you're disappointed that we skipped any details...THE REFORGING IS COMING. Keep an eye on our socials, and we'll be back soon. Thank you all for coming on this ride with us.

in my scar covered heart, color will always exist
Rating: Mature
Warnings: canon-typical aftermath of battle, aftermath of torture, discussion of Sauron's emotional abuse
Summary:
Adar finds an unlikely ally in Eragion after his children turn on him in a bout of unexpected battle madness. Surely this time, the elf he’s brought home really will help him defeat Sauron instead of using his mercy as an opportunity to kill dozens of orcs AGAIN. Surely this time he can truly defeat Sauron and keep the Uruk safe, right?
Celebrimbor manages to survive being tortured by Sauron. Now he just has to survive teaming up with the army that invaded his city, the heartbreak of his lover and his smiths turning on him, and the psychic damage that comes from being the son of an infamous kingdom-killer working with someone called Lord Father. (Or: Sauron’s exes unionize, rebound together, and try and get custody of the kids. Canon divergence after ROP s2e6. Let's get out of Ost-in-Edhil with a lower body count!)
Chapter 2: Adar starts putting the wounded elf Sauron left behind back together so they can flee Ost-in-Edhil safely. Celebrimbor realizes he's been rescued by one of the few people to intimately know Sauron's tactics and gets gently bullied into not falling into a guilt spiral.
