They always know. Maybe it wasn't a good idea to switch places without prior research. (I think I'm going to continue with two comics every week)

Snake appreciation month [XIX]:
VATHEK
Okay, we all know for a fact that TV adaptation totally did Cedric and Vathek dirty by making them enemies right from the start. In the original comics, they had those brief but glorious moments working together, and the dynamics (like many have already noticed) could have been absolute gold. Sure, Cedric was still kinda haughty and patronizing, but there was this weirdly friendly and chill vibe you wouldn't expect considering their positions. These two definitely have known eachother for a long time, and Vathek really seems like the closest thing Cedric has to a friend; he even seemed genuinely hurt and distraught when Vathek switched sides and turned against him.
By the way, a side story with them exploring Earth while preparing for their mission would be cool. It’s a world Cedric knows pretty well and Vathek hasn't seen before, just imagine the shenanigans as the poor man tries to understand modern culture and technology! And I've always had a weird feeling that Vathek would be fond of those early 2000s mobile games; too bad his physique means he'd probably break Cedric's ridiculuos pink slide phone (complete with an obscene amount of charms and definitely not stolen from some little girl by a random Passling). Oh, and speaking of games, does anyone else remember that Game Boy Advance thing? Here’s a doodle of these two idiots loosely inspired by its general vibe.

The theme of the next prompt is AU, and it's my comic In Breach AU.
Judging by Cedric's reaction, in the canon comic he first sees Phobos somewhere in the middle of the first arc. In my AU, Cedric became Phobos' page about a month before the rebellion against the queen. Although he tells Vathek that the whisperers/murmures ‘grow on their own’, Phobos was actually creating them from living slaves and criminals, something Cedric was strictly forbidden to tell others about.
Phobos took living and breathing flesh and cross-bred it with plant tissue until it was fully transmuted into a plant. Then he would rewire their brains. This was no problem for him: in his understanding, galhots were not Escanors, but rather talking animals, and this gave him carte blanche for any experiments. The result were biorobots with no self-consciousness and no will, but capable of performing some simple tasks and limited self-learning. The first whisperers lacked even facial expressions and sometimes part of their limbs. Their mouths, noses, and eyes occasionally leaked juice. Weira was horrified by these living dolls, especially since they were so similar to her son and spoke with his voice.
The transmutation is a long process, so the whisperers were maturing in giant flower buds hanging in Phobos's greenhouse like ripe fruit. Quite often the transmutation process failed, causing physical deformities and/or death. In this case a Prince would perform an autopsy to understand the cause of this failure and he insisted on Cedric's assistance because the boy was much faster and smarter than whisperers. Phobos was 16 at the time and hadn't yet reached the Caleb level. Although Cedric was fairly certain that the specimens were dead, it often seemed to him that they were still breathing or looking at him while the Prince was digging in their entrails.
I guess I'll pass several next prompts and make another art with Cedric in my AU :P

I respect all „Cedric and Vathek are bros in the comic” truthers out there, but I can’t really get behind this vision. To me their dynamic is like. your weird boss that rants about his problems to you because he has no one else to talk to, but still doesn’t really respect you

On Cedric, I like him as a Kahedrinn because it explains why the ones we see are all in royal service and why he's so loyal to Phobos (and takes his betrayal so badly): the survivors were enslaved as per old human custom and their descendants indoctrinated, and Phobos turned this slave into a lord.
On the Escanor, we only have Vathek's tale for it, about 1500 years and change after the facts. While it's intended to be at least partly true (Kandrakar would have smashed the Escanors if they had been invaders, and the likely Kahedrinn just happen to be where they'd be if their ancestors had lost a war against the Escanors), it's likely the real thing had particulars he didn't know. Such as more humans wandering through portals to maintain a stable population, possibly a pre-existing human community, and maybe even a coup or a civil war where the winner took the name of the House of Escanor for legitimacy (happened often enough here on Earth). It certainly explains how Rascal the Whisperer was able to put together a largish band of Galhot that openly resent the Escanor and not just Phobos. You can keep the Escanor tale as more or less true and then add particulars to make it less perfect.
For Phobos... Does one exclude the other? Nerissa's conspiracy could easily happen, only for her to realize too late she just served Meridian to the oldest evil in the universe.
Okay yeah them being enslaved and then Cedric being weirdly promoted to Lord for some reason absolutely vibes with what I know about the comics continuity. (The Cartoon doesn't really explain any of this!).
I go back and forth on how much 'truth' there is to the Escanor tale.
On one hand, it'd be realistic to be imperfect. Vathek doesn't really strike me as a history expert, and even then between how long it's been and the idea of people in power changing the narrative, it makes sense that things would have been different to the tale he tells.
On the other hand, this is a work of fiction. If Vathek is the only source on this history, then it's something we must take as word-of-god face value as the Truth of the lore of the world.

Holds up sign that says:
Vathek is one of the most important people in Cedric's life, he's one of the few characters Cedric is somewhat comfortable expressing his actual thoughts to, the little information we get on that in the comics makes it seem like Vathek's betrayal shocked and hurt Cedric, and I would like to see them in a situation where they display Divorced Behaviour.

So, I started rewatching the episode that comes after this one, and it's the one where Phobos threatens to bonk Cedric with an oil lamp or whatever 😅 Cedric truly gets no breaks.
curious if you guys have like, a comfort episode or chapter? like, the one you go back to reread/rewatch when life is a little too much.

Mr. W.I.T.C.H. poll 2024 - Round 1
I'm a little late but I did not forget that in September 2023 we had a glorious Mr. W.I.T.C.H. poll where Cedric finally got his deserved revenge after his dramatically lost battle in the official poll in the comic in 2002!
This time I would like to do it with an ELIMINATION event: there will be ONE POLL PER DAY and at the end of each poll, the character with less votes will be eliminated, and you'll vote again. At the end there will be a final match between the last two survivors for one week (we already know who will be there... Phobos needs revenge for that second place last year)
So... VOTE for your fave W.I.T.C.H. boi, REBLOG HARD for sample size, and if you want to nominate someone who is not in the poll, do it in the tags! Honorable nominations will be considered for the poll on the next day and replace the second to last contender!

So, I have no idea if anyone is interested in this, but I just had to point out that as a person who grew up with the comics and only watched the cartoon at, like, 18, I really hate cartoon Cedric.
It's like someone saw one picture of comic Cedrics snake form and decided to build this weird ass predator villain around it. Comic Cedric is like the most physically pushover character ever. He's basically screwed as soon as he directly faces anyone.
In Issue 6, he goes to face the rebels in his bookshop, is immediately taken hostage and almost executed, Will frees him, he grabs that sword thing, has no idea what to do with it and gets pushed down again. And that apparently damaged him hard enough Elyon had to teletransport him of!
In Issue 8, he gets bullied by a fucking dormouse biting his tail at the Karmilla concert, and later struggles to throw Will of his back while in his winged form.
In his shrimp form during the final battle, he is somewhat more competent, but still looks clumsy af. Which is pretty much his whole thing. I don't think he's weak - snakes are pretty much all muscle by default. He's just got neither the confidence nor the body control to make any use of that, at least that's my interpretation.
Also, in the cartoon there's this whole weird...I dunno if vore's the right word, but this thing about him eating people and shit, plus that weird feeding scene where Phobos tells him to eat and he just rips into some kind of turkey? While comic Cedric appeared more like the kind of person who'd eat chicken wings with cutlery.
And speaking of predator, why does cartoon Cedric sound overly sexual with everything he says? Like, the scene in I believe episode 12 where he and his men hunt Vathek and he says "I'll take the traitor" like he's hoping to get cast as the next porn pizza delivery guy?
That said, the one thing I truly prefer about cartoon Cedric is that he was used to his full potential. It might have been my neverdying crush on comic Cedric, but I never perceived him as a danger, more as a barely adult mess playacting as evil consort in between mental breakdowns. Cartoon Cedric is constantly and more or less successfully portrayed as a real danger to both the main and supporting cast and the citizens in general. In that regard, maybe making him a more straightforward menace was the right choice. I just wish they had taken the more challenging, but in my opinion more rewarding if done right, route of using his cunning, manipulative powers to their fullest. Maybe even combining that with him being more morally grey and/or too much of a pushover, so he tries evading direct confrontation or directly injuring people.
Okay, again, dunno if this made any sense whatsoever, I just wanted to throw this out there and see if anyone was interested in hearing it. I spend way too much time consuming w.i.t.c.h. and as such have way too many thoughts on it I'd like to share.
