Maybe some of you remember the little swap AU we were cooking up on the Cedric´s screaming closet discord server during snake appreciation month.

Cedric from the comic and cartoon are basically two different characters personality wise. So we wondered how they would manage a day in each other's worlds.

We made it into a little fanfic / comic project with full chapters by Lumiya on Ao3 accompanied by my little comics. The plan is to post on tuesdays and fridays. I´ll share my comics here and link to the fanfic as well.

Oh, that's a great idea, I can totally see them doing that just to mess with the others! Poor series!Vatek will be utterly horrified when Cedric casually asks how his day was; series!Phobos will probably wonder if burnout has caught up with Cedric as the shifter suddenly sheds tears of gratitude after dining together; Orube will be annoyed as hell that Cedric is suddenly acting like he doesn't know her at all (Who the hell is Miranda? Why is he wearing color contact lenses?), and will probably be the first one to realize it's an impostor.

Bonus points for the series!Guardians wondering why the snake has suddenly shrunk in size (Irma might be asking Cedric if he's out of protein shakes), and then the scene erupts into utter chaos and screaming when the girls find out that:

A) Tiny Cedric is actually a capable mage;

B) The freaking snake can fly!

Meanwhile, big Cedric is delighted to learn that only one of these Guardians can use her wings.

They're essentially two different characters with the same name, but damn it, I love them both! After all, the amalgam of two versions has been living rent-free in my head since 2004.

And here's the final entry. Many thanks to @cedricsnotdead for spreading the word about this challenge, to everyone participating and to everyone supporting us snake lovers!

P.S. You guys commenting on my naga interpretation never fails to make me squeal with delight, but be warned: positive feedback on Cedric's ears encourages me to make them even longer, so there is a very real threat of them exponentially expanding beyond the observable universe.

Snake appreciation month [XXVIII]:

EARTH

Lord Cedric himself (since passlings can't be trusted to fetch self-care and cosmetic products), braving a snowstorm to return from a shopping trip via portal that inconveniently opened right under the Heatherfield railroad bridge.

By the way, he'll have to make that epic journey again because Phobos is too picky about the eyeliners.

SNAKE APPRECIATION MONTH #28 - EARTH, METAMOOR, BASILIADE

My prompt for today can also be called "Playing Barbie with Cedric" - he does not slay as much as Phobos does but if given the right outfits he can shine as well ✨

In my hc and in Ink and Blood, he ends up living a bit on all three planets - basically he is based on Metamoor because he's employed by Elyon, but he also visits regularly Basiliade with Orube to see her family and friends, and they go to Earth when they have a "leave" and they can go there on vacation. Here are three outfits I thought for him on the three planets.

Zoom-ins (*enter badass music for catwalk*)

For Earth: once a bookshop owner, always a bookshop owner. I took inspiration from dark academia aesthetic pictures I found online for this look. It's not really that different from the outfits they gave him in the comics, but I'm a fan of crease pants and he would definitely slay in them and a pair of chelsea boots. His colors here are dark green and brown but I could see him also in gray pants and in dark blue pullovers. (ofc the goth in me would like him to go total black too). Also: messy ponytail Cedric supremacy 🙌

For Metamoor: in my stories, even when he's on Metamoor he always wears Basiliadean garments, but sometimes it's necessary also for him to appear in Metamoor robes. Anyway he used to wear them before, so this outfit could also be from "earlier". It's a revised version of the various Metamoor robes we see in the comics. The colors here are thought as Meridian colors - various shades of blue. But because of his origins in Ink and Blood, I can imagine him wearing black and silver (the colors of Hoel) at some official events.

For Basiliade: in Basiliade it is always warm so the textiles there are very light, probably linen or something like that. Many Warriors go sleeveless, but Cedric tends to wear a tunic under the waistcoat because otherwise he'll burn his arms under the Twin Suns (he should probably bring some SPF 50+ with him from Earth...) Here the colors are generally warm, with different shades of beige, red and orange. The hair half-up with the braid is something he adopted when he started training, but often he keeps the hair tied or plated in a braid.

I’m just imagining them had they both been forced to attend Sheffield in season two.

Cedric attends Calculus and informs a very annoyed Taranee this is what they teach toddlers among his people while Phobos struggles to add fractions in remedial math.

Meanwhile, in art class, Phobos perfectly recreates the Mona Lisa with a dull sigh and zero effort while Cedric spends the whole period in a deep, fretful concentration but is only able to produce this:

VATHEK

Okay, we all know for a fact that TV adaptation totally did Cedric and Vathek dirty by making them enemies right from the start. In the original comics, they had those brief but glorious moments working together, and the dynamics (like many have already noticed) could have been absolute gold. Sure, Cedric was still kinda haughty and patronizing, but there was this weirdly friendly and chill vibe you wouldn't expect considering their positions. These two definitely have known eachother for a long time, and Vathek really seems like the closest thing Cedric has to a friend; he even seemed genuinely hurt and distraught when Vathek switched sides and turned against him.

By the way, a side story with them exploring Earth while preparing for their mission would be cool. It’s a world Cedric knows pretty well and Vathek hasn't seen before, just imagine the shenanigans as the poor man tries to understand modern culture and technology! And I've always had a weird feeling that Vathek would be fond of those early 2000s mobile games; too bad his physique means he'd probably break Cedric's ridiculuos pink slide phone (complete with an obscene amount of charms and definitely not stolen from some little girl by a random Passling). Oh, and speaking of games, does anyone else remember that Game Boy Advance thing? Here’s a doodle of these two idiots loosely inspired by its general vibe.

(A generic role swap) AU

I see an opportunity to mess with character design, I go for it

A small AU idea where everything is relatively the same, but Cedric, falsely accused of high treason after regicide and Elyon's disappearance, stripped of his title and wanted dead, reluctantly joins the rebellion and competes for leadership with Aldarn and Julian to get his revenge and again spread his influence over Metamoor. Knowing well enough that this world is dying without a Heart, he travels to Earth to find Elyon and allies himself with the Guardians to secure their help despite his hatred of Kandrakar - however, his original intention to simply place Elyon on the throne as a puppet monarch will change once he sees how deep the connection between her and Cornelia is and how she can be influenced by the Oracles via Guardians. Fortunately, there are no moral principles that would prevent him from working for both sides to ultimately side with whoever will emerge victorious.

Caleb, on the other hand, remains the prince's creation and acts as his right hand. Dangerous in combat (basically being a nerfed Phobos version capable exclusively of plant magic, he is able to summon life draining vines in Metamoor, has a mental link with other Whisperers and wields that electric magic spear (ouch!)) and loyal to his master, Caleb is, much to the prince's annoyance, very idealistic and as honorable and compassionate as his position allows him to be. Sincerely believing that Phobos intents to bring Elyon back to restore the magic balance and rule together with her, Caleb starts his mission hellbent on locating the heir before the nefarious serpent - for the good of Metamoor people.. right?

Celestial Dragon AU

After dying in the book of elements Cedric wanders the strange dimensions of his afterlife, trying to find a way back home. He discovers that the void is not as empty as it seems and meets strange creatures he can only describe as Celestial Dragons. With their help he works to gain back his magic and find the balance between monster and man.

After this months event I will release a short comic based on this idea.

SNAKE APPRECIATION MONTH #16 - AN AU (I)

My first entry today is one of my favourite AUs - the Lord of the Rings one <3 I don't feel good enough with drawing to illustrate all the characters I thought about, but I wanted to try at least with these three, my faves. Little zoom-ins:

Here we have Orube, a very skilled elf - there's nothing that escapes her eyes or ears, she has an incredible aim, she jumps on horses while they're galopping, snowboards down the stairs on a shield while killing orcs, elegantly slides down elephants' trunks after killing them with a few arrows, and of course - of course - her father is the most stylish fashion icon in Mirkwood.

Then we have our man, the protagonist of this month, Cedric the White, a powerful wizard - so powerful he's actually the head of his order, but he has sneakily switched to the side of the baddies and his hobby now is creating armies of orcs out of mud. I likes to collect gossip through the Palantìr.

And then we have him - I know this month is dedicated to Cedric and everything, but can we please take a look at Phobos as the Witch King, how he slays with the black attire and the pointy boots, now my skills are not refined enough to draw him riding those Black Wings beasts, but just imagine him doing that.

Headcanon

Infinite City

I´m going to give you my headcanon about the creation of the veil and how I think it is connected to the Infinite City below the planet’s surface.

Disclaimer: I´m going to ignore the canon timeline because it doesn´t make sense to me. Like, the veil is supposed to be this ancient thing but also everything happened 13 years ago? This is my hc timeline:

In the beginning of the universe the mystic energy of celestial bodies resided within them. The creatures that would evolve on these worlds would inherit some of that power in their own hearts. This was the source of their magic. Civilizations like the ancients of Metamoor extracted the celestial powers and channeled them into objects or people. Like this, the heart of Meridian was born. The people of the elder days became incredibly powerful and sought to expand their influence. Many conflicts raged across the universe. To restore the balance between worlds the council of Kandrakar was created.

To stop the conquest of hostile aliens Kandrakar cuts these worlds off from the rest of the universe by the creation of the veil, sealing them away in these pocket dimensions. Confined to their own planet the ancient civilization of Metamoor destroys itself and leaves their monuments for the other species of the planet to inherit. All that is left are its ruins. Ruined portal frames and the never ending catacombs of the Infinite City are the only traces of an empire which had once spanned across the stars. So begins the long dark age of Metamoor in which the different factions fight over control of the planet, its magical heart and what is left of the old empires destructive tech.

In these conditions the Escanors arrive to the planet and gain control of the heart. Their dynasty manages to mostly unite and stabilize the situation. At this point most of the ancient technology is destroyed and the heart of the planet restabilized. The Council of Kandrakar considers lifting the veil which has gone frail over the millennia and free the planet from its quarantine. Their hopes are crushed by Phobos, a tyrant who seeks to rekindle the planets legacy of conquest by gaining control of its heart and using the portal magic native to the planet to invade other worlds.

Phobos is eventually defeated. Though the underlying weakness of these worlds remains. The hearts of the planets are controlled by individuals who can be corrupted or removed from the worlds. The power of the hearts gives great opportunity to these civilizations, but also brings great risks.

(Fun fact! Cedric's red "mask" is so different mainly because otherwise he always ended up looking like a ninja turtle.)
