man I love yokai/yaoguai creatures and mythos. my irish butt researches this stuff and the primordial Irish part of my brain goes; "Ah. Perfectly understandable fae behavior."
Now I'm thinking of LMK situations where (due to a mix of immigration/tourism) MK has to deal with entities that he has no context for as an urban chinese teenager.
How this boy suppose to respond to a gotdang giant foot coming out of the sky like a Monty Python bumper?

Mei learning about different "dragon princesses" from Japanese, Vietnamese, and Cebuano mythos (Example: Otohime the daughter of the Dragon King of the Sea in Japanese folklore) and writing to them asking if they're possibly related and/or if they'd be interested to an awesome city break to Metropolis.
Pigsy gets paid in money-thats-actually-leaves once by a raccoon-dog spirit and almost strangles the spirit the next time he sees them.
Tang ofc has like a million folklore + basic language guides on hand to figure out who/what they're dealing with.

Bodhisattva, self-translation to Bisaya.
I return to you in daydreams Resurrected—but not quite.  Even in death, Do I not feel alive? The answer: I have abandoned my peace to remain  In the iris of your eyes We stay here—Samsara,  Lopburi, My home now yours, and forever, You, the seeker, and I, practicing deity, God only in mortal saliva, When I open my mouth, Watch out.

Interesting song I came across today. The lyrics alternate between Japanese and Amis, a language spoken by an aboriginal people of Taiwan. The song depicts a group of Amis conscripts (Japan recruited from its colonies) who have decided to defect at the end of WW2, rather than be naturalized into the army of the Republic of China, the new boss.

Just finished "Surat Binisaya" by Rolando O. Borrinaga, which gave me a deeper understanding of the on-going challenges of translating Philippine scripts written on old Philippine artifacts.  One challenge is determining the validity and age of the artifacts. Another is determining what language was used when writing them, and what the objects were used for.  Last but not least, Borrinaga shares an updated list of old Bisaya words derived from a Spanish dictionary by Francisco Alcina written in 1668. The corrected words span 40 pages of "Surat Binisaya," with possibly 400 to 500 Bisaya words from the 1600s. The rest of my "book review" here: https://filipeanut.art/surat-binisaya-by-rolando-o-borrinaga/
