Timeeee for more minecraft Trapped/mc vr ramblesssss! ((Mostly me thinking out loud abt my thoughts on cool vr roleplay/practical effects/mods/etc)) (Feel free to ignore bc it's not really. Lore.)
I've unironically just finished doing mini "research" collecting video clips for this post rn- it took like an hour bc I couldn't find a Slimecicle clip- yes its important-
So two things. One, I have a L O T of ideas for practical effects done with the vr headset/controllers setup, just as they are. Two, I REALLY wanna see if the "first person model" mod is compatible with vr.
Ramble beneath the cut.
Like. I've wanted to play vr minecraft and do a little single-player roleplay for actual YEARS now. We've had a headset for most of that time, too. I just. Can't. Like it's been ACTIVELY in my mind for years, y e a r n i n g. And I HAVE researched and tested and troubleshooted over and over again, I just can't get QUITE to the end.
So. I've mostly been trying to use Sidequest, to install minecraft directly onto the headset. But it requires using a pc, and not my laptop, so that's problem 1. Problem TWO that I've struggled alot with is that I have to use the meta app (I've got a quest 3 headset, I think) which only works on your phone. But I have to use my DAD'S account/information. That's the biggest problem, even tho I've gotten him in on it a few times.
But the headset itself is wonky at best and might be outdated. One of the more recent times I tried it, it had to update bc it wouldn't show me its connection code thingy. I'm still not sure if it'll even allow me to install Sidequest or minecraft in general.
The other option is just connecting it to the pc, but that TOO is having connection problems. And since my brother's always playing on the family pc, it's a lil awkward if I wanna try to do that. Even tho there's literally two monitors. Cuz it's a whole Process still so I'd need the keyboard available. And plus even if I do somehow connect it with a cord, it may not be long enough to do much with. So yeah that's what's been up with me.
Anyways, now the actual ideas I have that I'd like to try/think are just cool.
So I've watched plenty of people play vr, and I've never seen anyone try first person model. It may very well be that it's not compatible at all, and I wouldn't be surprised. But it has somewhat worked with unique player models, so maybe if you just remove the mod's arms...eh. it may not be worth it, or even be possible.
But I remember a scene in MC Trapped where Sabre notes that he still can't see his own body when he looks down. And tbh I just can't stop imagining how immersive it'd be. Like, it wouldn't really...follow your movements like your arms. But it'd be cool. Though then there's part two of that immersion.
If the mod did work, we'd have OTHER issues that you can see from others' POVs. One major one being that the player body can't lay down when you do. Your hands just go thru the floor, but in your pov it looks fine...without the body. I think a simple sit/crawl button will fix that, but there's still a chance that wouldn't work. Crawl usually puts you laying on your stomach, so that'd need to flip sometimes. And generally just looks kinda strange in some instances.
Having a mod that tracks your body movement and puts the player model in the right position could be neat, but unnecessary. Especially since vr just has so many potential bugs, there's no way to anticipate everything.
Now the OTHER idea I have, thanks to Slimecicle lol.
So this clip has been on my mind for awhile. (I hope that actually works) And I gotta say, Charlie's king of random practical effects. Like I know most of what he does is short bits, but imagine putting your controller on a fan as a swinging blade attack or something! Like, there's a lot of ordinary objects that could serve an interesting purpose.
Like, walking up invisible stairs or something. Doing something different irl than in-game, for like a ghost character or insane character. Maybe an interdimensional being, in two places at once. That's something I would love to see in a series similar to Trapped. Taking that same basic concept - trapped in vr - and using that as an op/strange character.
Obviously, Trapped!Sabre was sort of that, clearly a fish out of water. But take it up a notch, and use the medium to its full potential! Or the opposite, doing the same irl as in game. Like eating an apple, so it's easier to, like, describe.
It could be interesting to have one of those fancy pain-receptor vests and like treadmill thing that lets you walk/run in place. But that might be excessive, it'd take a lot of effort AND money and may not be worthy.
BamBaeYoh did a "physical minecraft" video with the treadmill. I doubt it'd be better than good ol' acting. (Here: "I survived 7 days of physical minecraft")
But yeah. Like, maybe you setup boxes and things explicitly TO trip over, to make the character seemingly falling over nothing. Might not be good tho, since the headset and stuff could break. But like, also with multiple people/actors!! One with the headset, two with the controllers. So, like, maybe the Big Bad is torturing them, and dismembers their arms. I mean, hey, it's not a big stretch (hah, pun) from what you CAN do normally. Having a 2nd or even 3rd person there would let you use your arms while dismembered, basically. And make moving them easier than just. On the floor.
Like that's REALLY what I wanna try here. I already have a Trapped au where that happens, and it's not too hard to actually accomplish in-game. I wanna see what features/bugs/etc exist in minecraft vr, and use them for lore.
Thanks for reading my long ramble if you got allll the way down here ^^

Top 5 Mythical Footjob locations in Skyrim
5.
At number 5 we have the fisherman’s camp at Lake Ilinalta. Not only does it overlook Lake Ilinalta, the most beautiful lake in Skyrim, but the fishing opportunities here are second to none. This should be number 1 but unfortunately there are quite a few slaughterfish nearby. Also, you’ll have to dispose of the fisherman if you want some privacy. Overall, a solid FJ location, just don’t clean your toes into the water afterwards.
4.
Here at number 4 we have Unnamed Fisherman’s Shack (CC Content). This is added by the free Fishing creation which comes with Anniversary Edition. Absolutely scenic location. You get a beautiful view of the Sea of Ghosts, plus a beautiful shack full of fresh fish. Absolutely an indisputable mythical FJ location - sadly let down by the presence of Sabre Cats which are known to hunt in the area.
3.
Coming in at number 3 we have the balcony at the Great Chantey of Auri-El. Don’t let the cold climate fool you - this is an absolutely mythical FJ location. It overlooks the entire Forgotten Vale, and you have the whole platform to yourself. This was a solid contender for number 1, but was let down by the portent-wrangling vampire who unfortunately runs the place. Once he’s dispatched, his brother lingers around and ruins your privacy. Mostly, he stays away from the viewing platform, but still annoying. Regardless, an absolutely fantastic location.
2.
At number 2 we have White River Watch Overlook. Absolutely, undoubtedly, indisputably, a Talos-tier mythical FJ location. Unbelievably beautiful. On the table is a bottle of wine, right beside wooden decking to perform all of your activities. By all metrics, this should be number 1, but unfortunately let down by the bandits on the way in, and the tiring walk through an almost vertical cave. But once you arrive, your FJ will be phenomenal
1.
And in first place, lo and behold, the number 1 undisputed mythical FJ location in all of Skyrim is the Honeyside balcony. Overlooking the beautiful Lake Honrich, this mythical FJ location is unbeatable by any other. Not only are you subject to beautiful views, but it is literally the balcony to your own home. No long journeys, just step out and you’re ready to go. Unbelievable choice for number 1 spot. Watch the lake, and the ships, and the trees, all from the comfort of your own garden, drinking your own mead, getting your own shmeat absolutely ravaged by your own husband’s feet. You’ll find no better location in all of Skyrim.

Crystal Palace Field Trip Part 1: Walking With Victorian Monsters
The Crystal Palace Dinosaurs take their name from the original Crystal Palace, a glass-paned exhibition building originally constructed for a World's Fair in Hyde Park in 1851.
In 1854 the structure was relocated 14km (~9 miles) south to the newly-created Crystal Palace Park, and a collection of over 30 life-sized statues of prehistoric animals were commissioned to accompany the reopening – creating a sort of Victorian dinosaur theme park – sculpted by Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins with consultation from paleontologist Sir Richard Owen.
The Palace building itself burned down completely in 1936, and today only the ruins of its terraces remain in the northeast of the park grounds.
The Crystal Palace building then and now Left image circa 1854 (public domain) Right image circa 2011 by Mark Ahsmann (CC BY-SA 3.0)
Six sphinx statues based on the Great Sphinx of Tanis also survive up among the Palace ruins, flanking some of the terrace staircases. They fell into serious disrepair during the latter half of the 20th century, but in 2017 they all finally got some much-needed preservation work, repairing them and restoring their original Victorian red paint jobs.
———
…But let's get to what we're really here for. Dinosaurs! (…And assorted other prehistoric beasties!)
The "Dinosaur Court" down in the south end of the park still remains to this day, displayed across several islands in a man-made lake. Over the decades they've been through multiple cycles of neglect and renovation, and are currently cared for by the London Borough of Bromley (Crystal Palace Park Trust are due to take over custodial duties in September 2023), with promotion and fundraising assistance from organizations like Historic England and the Friends of the Crystal Palace Dinosaurs charity.
Just about 170 years old now, the Crystal Palace Dinosaurs represent fifteen different types of fossil creatures known to 1850s Victorian science, with only three actual dinosaur species featured. Although often derided for being outdated and very inaccurate by modern standards, they were actually incredibly good efforts at the time, especially taking into account that the field of paleontology was still in its very early days.
They also just have a lot of charm, with toothy grins and surprisingly dynamic poses.
Unfortunately on the day I visited in early August 2023 most of the statues were heavily obscured by plant growth, both on their islands and on the sides of the paths they can usually be viewed from. Since I'd seen images from about a month ago showing things being less overgrown, this was probably just some unlucky timing on my part coinciding with some explosive summer foliage growth.
The first island on the trail features a few Permian and Triassic animals which were only known from fragmentary remains in the 1850s. These "labyrinthodonts" were recognized as having similarities to both amphibians and reptiles, and so were depicted with boxy toothy jaws, warty skin, stumpy tails, and long frog-like back legs.
Today we'd call these particular animals temnospondyl amphibians, specifically Mastodonsaurus, and we know they were actually shaped more like giant salamanders with longer flatter crocodilian-like jaws, smaller legs, and long paddle-like tails.
———
Somewhere in the foliage beyond this specific "labyrinthodont" there was also supposed to be a pair of dicynodonts, but I couldn't see much of them at all and didn't manage to get a remotely visible photograph.
Crystal Palace Dicynodon when much less overgrown Left photo by London looks (CC BY 2.0) Right photo by Loz Pycock (CC BY SA 2.0)
These Dicynodon are depicted as looking like sabre-toothed turtles complete with shells. That was fairly speculative even for the time, but considering only their weird turtle-beaked-and-walrus-tusked skulls were known it was probably the best guess Hawkins and Owen had. Today we know these animals were actually synapsids related to modern mammals, but Victorian understanding considered them to be a type of reptile.
Modern reconstructions of dicynodonts have a slightly different face shape, along with squat pig-like bodies and semi-sprawling limbs. They may have had fur, but currently the only known actual skin impressions from the genus Lystrosaurus show leathery bumpy hairless skin.

Heart Pirates Week 2024: Day 5: April 10: Clione
Blackbeard played with his food. It'd be his downfall, but not today. The Hearts had held out well against the Titans. A surprise attack, from all sides, and an emperor as stubborn as Straw Hat. Penguin and Shachi and nearly everyone else had targeted Sabre of Xebec without putting thought into how it could target them. How the Titans were all fruit users. Blackbeard's whole crew was. With powers that ripped their sub in two. And if Blackbeard captured Law, Clione knew the Emperor would not be kind. He hoped to light the way some and they’d rescue him if he’d been caught after they'd resurfaced.

China’s J-20 Isn’t A “Dominating Aircraft,” USAF General Says
Oliver ParkenPUBLISHED Sep 13, 2023 7:00 PM EDT
Chinese J-20 aircraft on the runway
PLAAF
General Kenneth S. Wilsbach, the head of Pacific Air Forces, has offered new comments regarding China’s growing fleet of J-20 stealth fighters. Compared to the capabilities of the U.S., and those of its allies and partners, the general says that the J-20 does not constitute a "dominating aircraft at this point" — a statement which is broadly in line with insights he made on the type last year.
Wilsbach’s remarks were given at the 2023 iteration of the Air & Space Forces Association's annual symposium ongoing just outside of Washington, D.C., which The War Zone is attending. The only operational stealth fighter within the People's Liberation Army (PLA), the J-20 first flew in 2011. Precisely how many of the type have been produced since that time remains unclear, although best available estimates suggest somewhere in the region of 160-200 airframes.
Under Secretary of the Air Force Gina Ortiz Jones and Gen. Ken Wilsbach, Pacific Air Forces commander, participate in a panel called “Preparing for Global Competition” during the 2022 Air and Space Forces Association’s Air, Space and Cyber Conference in National Harbor, Maryland, September 19, 2022. U.S. Air Force photo by Tech. Sgt. Nick Wilson
"I don’t think that it’s a dominating aircraft at this point, compared to what we have [in terms of stealthy F-22 Raptors and F-35 Lightnings]," Wilsbach highlighted. "They’ve done some good copying… pretty much most of the technology from that airplane [the J-20] was stolen from the U.S."

Wilsbach was unequivocal in his conviction that the capabilities of U.S. aircraft, combined with those of allies and partners, could counter any potential threat from J-20s. This multi-national coalition of partners, which regularly trains with high-threat scenarios in mind, would prove extremely difficult for any Chinese aircraft to counter, according to the general.
"What I will tell you is if you compare just aircraft to aircraft, you take the training that our people [U.S. Air Force] get. Interoperability with [U.S.] allies and partners… the Chinese [are] probably still at a pretty big disadvantage because of the way we train, especially with [our] Korean allies and partners."
"[For the Chinese] a fight that would be China versus us [the U.S.]... that makes their math pretty easy, but if you make it China versus the U.S. plus the other countries… their math gets pretty hard to do… When I think about some of the recent exercises that we've done together with our allies and partners like Talisman Sabre, and Northern Edge, [and] Valiant Shield earlier, you know, there's some extremely high-end exercises that are happening. In the past, when we've done some of those large coalition-type exercises… the level of complexity is reduced, so that everybody can participate. We're not doing that. We're making it a high-end, if you want to play you show up and you execute."
"And so I've used the example of last year, in [exercise] Pitch Black… we had almost 20 nations participating in a night[time], high-end surface-to-air missile take-down … It was super complex, and everybody that was playing, which may surprise some of you some of the nations that were playing in the exercise, but it was really well done and well executed. And we're seeing that exercise after exercise."

Wilsbach was also pressed on the potential threat J-20s could pose for Taiwanese forces at the symposium, and how Taiwan would defend itself, if China were to conduct a military intervention across the Taiwan Strait. U.S. military officials have suggested that the PLA may be in a position to successfully execute a cross-strait intervention by 2027, if not sooner. For Wilsbach, the Chinese threat against Taiwan shouldn’t be pigeonholed to the J-20:
"They [Taiwan] have to have systems to be able to [prevent] the J-20… By the way, the J-20 is limited in my view to Taiwan. What is a major threat is the other aircraft that can come in and drop, draw their weapons on Taiwan, you know like their H-6 bombers, and then not to mention all the ballistic missiles and cruise missiles. So, you know, if I was Taiwan, I wouldn't be overly concerned with the J-20 at this point… they need to be concerned about it, but there's a lot of other things that they also need to defend themselves against to be that tough target we spoke about earlier." That is quite the statement as Taiwan’s most advanced fighter is the F-16V, with additional new-build Vipers on the way. Other upgrades are in play for the other fighters in its inventory. The island’s ever-evolving ground and sea-based integrated air defenses are also a factor here.
As Wilsbach himself indicated, his most recent assessment of the J-20 is broadly in line with the comments he made at the 2022 iteration of the Air & Space Forces Association's annual symposium. At that event, the general noted how J-20s "weren’t anything to lose a lot of sleep over," but that, "Certainly, we're watching them [China] closely and seeing how they… operate them." This viewpoint was supported by Air Force Chief of Staff General Charles Q. Brown, who was also speaking at the 2022 symposium: "Well, I'm like General Wilsbach… [The J-20 is] not something to lose a lot of sleep over, but I'm gonna pay attention to it."
Two J-20s break formation, November 2018. emperornie via Wikimedia Commons, CC-BY-SA-2.0
It should also be noted that Wilsbach has cited concerns with other Chinese aircraft in discussions on the J-20 in the past, too, including long-range command and control capabilities such as the KJ-500 airborne early warning and control aircraft. As we’ve noted previously, KJ-500s are regularly used to support combat aircraft flying sorties around Taiwan. In general, China has rapidly expanded its airborne early warning and control aircraft fleet while the U.S. has decreased its own, although the addition of the E-7 is now on the horizon.
If senior U.S. Air Force officials remain only moderately concerned by the rise of China’s J-20s, this likely has much to do with the capabilities that service will leverage in the not-too-distant future. Currently, the Air Force is developing various air combat capabilities under the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) framework. This includes work on a sixth-generation crewed combat aircraft, various tiers of uncrewed platforms, as well as new sensors, weapons, and battle management systems. Lockheed Martin and Boeing are currently competing for the crewed combat aircraft contract, with Northrop Grumman having recently removed itself from the running. The Air Force hopes to pick a winner in 2024. Older 4th generation fighters are being reduced in numbers, but are also receiving critical upgrades and new ones with unique capabilities — the F-15EX — are being added to the fleet, as well. Meanwhile, the F-22 and F-35 fleets are the ‘tip of the spear’ of the USAF’s tactical aviation roster.
Lockheed's crewed component of NGAD. Lockheed Martin
With that said, the recent comments from Wilsbach clearly reinstate confidence that the U.S., alongside its partners and allies, retain the technological advantage over China’s current fighter aircraft designs.

"On [Tuesday, 22 March 1927] day a demonstration took place in Charlottenburg. The site of the demonstration-the city periphery is a stronghold of the fascists. It was expected that 5 to 10 thousand workers would attend. In the demonstration, however, at least 30000 people actually participated. And I don’t even include in that the many thousands of workers with women and children who accompanied the demonstrators on every residential block throughout its course. The police were present in vast numbers. At the beginning of the demonstration they had already had two major clashes with the police. One in Weber-Wejc, where a Red Front fighter also shot first (as the Party authority was able to determine). However, the police there conducted themselves with insolence and provocation. As the police (around 14 to 16 men) wanted to respond with gunfire, they were overwhelmed, disarmed and beaten by the crowd. Afterwards a larger body of police arrived (60 men) in support which opened fire on the demonstrators. Here, a non Party worker was killed and several wounded. The second clash happened in another district of the city. Here the workers were not shot but struck with the flat side of sabres and rubber truncheons. Here, the initiative was completely on the side of the police. [...]
Sadly, I was not fated to witness both of these great clashes. At that time I found myself at the other end of the demonstration. The demonstration went excellently. Such an infuriated, combative mood, almost marked with wild savagery as there was among the workers on that day I have never before seen in Germany. Not for nothing did Vorwärts the next day speak with hardly concealed fear of the rampant “mob” ([that is our] comrades). The Red Front Fighters stayed very disciplined. I was witness to a third clash soon after the demonstration. As the police began to shoot-first in the air, then partially also into the crowd (in the legs so as to never seriously injure)-, everyone ran except the Red Front fighters. They stood like a wall. Only the youngest of them ran onto the curb, the entire demonstration did not move once from its position. The tenacity of the Red Front Fighters exercised an immediate effect on the “fellow travellers” and these turned back to the site of the demonstration. Six seriously injured, of which two died, a dozen with real injuries, 30 men lightly injured-that is the balance sheet of the police massacre on that evening. I don’t even mention the many dozens struck by truncheon and sabre blows-there were over a hundred of these!
And despite all this the worker masses were not frightened, but even more enraged. It was really a rare and extraordinary demonstration. All should have heard how thousands of workers screamed from one throat “revenge, revenge, revenge”. The immense march was lit by torches (the demonstration ran from 8 to 11 [in the evening]), accompanied by the roar of drums and the enraged screaming of the masses, and was interrupted every 10 to 15 minutes sometimes by exchanges of fire, sometimes by small clashes. [...]
On Thursday a new demonstration was organised. […] Many Russian comrades who were not at the demonstration, told me that the CC was acting improperly with this multitude of demonstrations. In general that seems correct. In this case, however, it was already a question of honour for the Communist Party, to go on the street after the police bloodbath on Tuesday. Should the Communists allow themselves to be frightened? So the question was posed. And the Thursday demonstration gave the most decisive and compelling answer.
On the same day, the fascists attended their own demonstration in Tempelhof. The result was quite miserable. First, instead of a demonstration they held a meeting in some pub. Second, not a single fascist dared to attend this meeting in uniform! Third, only 80 people showed up!! Fourth, they held their meeting under the protection of seven huge police trucks which blocked traffic on the street. As a result the glory of the fascists very quickly faded away. The prestige of our party, trust in it and respect for it, doubtless grew in these days. The Rote Fahne is not to be found anywhere in recent days, the edition is already sold out in the early morning (our printer, however, could not increase our print run by more than 5000 for various “technical” reasons), the edition of Welt am Abend was recently increased to 12000. Yesterday was a recruitment day for the Red Front Fighters. I do not yet know the results but I am certain the recruitment went well."

PORTRAIT OF VAN-TA-ZHIN,
A military Mandarine (or Nobleman) of China.
This officer (a colleague of Chow-ta-zhin, who was a mandarine of the civil department) was appointed by the Emperor to attend the British Embassy, from the time of its arrival in the gulf of Pe-tchi-li, till its departure from Canton. Van-ta-zhin was a man of a bold, generous, and amiable character, and possessed of qualifications eminently suited to his profession, being well skilled in the use of the bow, and in the management of the sabre. For services performed in the wars of Thibet, he wore appended from his cap, a peacock's feather, as an extraordinary mark of favour from his sovereign, besides a red globe of coral which distinguished his rank. He is represented in his usual, or undress, consisting of a short loose jacket of fine cotton, and an under vest of embroidered silk; from his girdle hang suspended his handkerchief, his knife and chopsticks in a case, and purses for tobacco: on his thumbs are two broad rings of agate, for the purpose of drawing the bowstring. The heads of the arrows, which are thrust into the quiver, are variously pointed, as barbed, lozenge-headed, &cc. His boots are of satin, with thick soles of paper: these are always worn by the mandarines and superior Chinese.

Artemis grunted, conceding the point. She was no tactician — ever the weapon pointed exactly where it needed to be — but she wasn’t utterly useless at coming up with battleplans. Two heads were better than one, at any rate; perhaps her partner for this mission was slightly better at planning than she was.
“Now’s about one of those times I wish we had a Longsword on hand, but we’ll have to make do with what’s available.” Something was far better than nothing, in most cases. And in this situation, the something was a handful of battered freighters, and one outdated S-14 Baselard that, although had clearly seen better days, was certainly not nothing.
It was no Longsword, but it was nothing to sneeze at, either.
The militia, the name of whose Major she had already forgotten, seemed torn between following their leader, and following the Spartans. Roughly half stood clustered around their commanding officer; the other half had sidled closer to the pair of armoured supersoldiers. Again: something. Soldiers willing to follow them into battle, even if it meant going against their Major’s orders.
“I can fly a Baselard with my eyes shut, but going against a CCS without backup is suicide. We need a distraction.” A heavy frigate and five Sabres had been not-quite outmatched by a Covenant heavy Corvette. One sad-looking Baselard against a battlecruiser that had certainly been relatively well-maintained? The odds were long.
Answered ask from @indomitus-ferox Had it been easy? No. Nobles weren't known to back down. But the lack of support, supplies, a cry out for a Winter Contingency...this was it.
This was what her time had brought her to. A sniper, a few grenades, and suddenly just one other Spartan. She could take on another four Elites. UNSC could just patch up her fists again. But they couldn't patch up a glassed planet. A fear of lost souls, lost Spartans...a lost war.
"Don't we always?" She tried to sound encouraging. A small smile of hope behind her blue visor and the ODST helmet that had saved her life.

What if Meng Yao had died taking down WRH? Plus points if his last words were something heartbreaking for Lan Xichen and Nie Minjue. Outwardly, it looks like everything is great if you hate JGY! He's dead, but he hasn't done any of JGS' dirty work and the shitshow that led to, he's now a martyr hero etc. But obviously things are going to not be great as JGY wasn't the root of all evil and JGS is still up and running.
The Nie and the Jin would have ended up at war, that's what would have happened.
Like, this is not even ambiguous. If JGY kills WRH and dies in the act, presumably because WRH gets in a retaliatory blow as he goes down, there is another war in the jianghu within a few years.
I don't think I'm going to win the plus points for heartbreaking last words, since LXC isn't present when JGY kills WRH and NMJ is unconscious/so out of it he doesn't witness the moment either, but maybe I can make up for that by pointing out that if JGY dies in the act of killing WRH then NMJ is going to come to and see them both dead and still think JGY is a traitor. Then LXC is going to arrive and have to explain things through his own grief.
But anyway. No JGY means no recruitment of XY to the Jin. It means less expert handling of the Jiang to undermine the JC-WWX relationship while WWX is in exile, and it also means JZX doesn't end up at Qiongqi Path. There's a sliver of opportunity here for the Twin Heroes to limp along for a while longer. Hurrah!
Except there's also no mitigating influence on the Jin-Nie conflict. JGS is going to press on with his thick-faced attempts to become Chief Cultivator. He's going to press on with his experiments in demonic cultivation and he's going to keep undermining JC and demonising (ha!) WWX. And it's all going to be done with a hell of a lot less finesse. Which is going to enrage NMJ further. NMJ thinks the Wenmants need to be taken down and he's not hugely interested in the internal politics of the Jiang, but he sees the Jin power grab and he hates it. And because he's NMJ he doesn't think about the most productive way to deal with that. He goes straight to yelling and waving his sabre around.
There's a key line (EXR translation, Chapter 106): "To this father of mine, I once had hopes as well. In the past, as long as it was his command, whether it be to betray Sect Leader Wen or protect Xue Yang or remove anyone who disagreed, no matter how foolish it was, how hated I'd be, I'd obey regardlessly."
NMJ is a massive thorn in JGS' side. NMJ is toast. But because JGS lacks JGY, he lacks the means to take out NMJ effectively and the result is that sooner or later tensions between the two sects are going to boil over. NMJ, almost incapable of nuance at the best of times, is degenerating further thanks to the exacerbation of the sabre spirit by several years of intense warfare. Cleansing can only do so much and buy him so much time—remember, the vast majority of his violent outbursts in canon are prior to being exposed to the piece blended with an extract from the Collection of Turmoil. This is a recipe for open conflict.
As for who wins that war, my money is on JGS. He can easily paint NMJ as the aggressor since he just has to hold his ground until NMJ makes the first move. JC is busy rebuilding the Jiang, and in this scenario while LXC is NMJ's friend he is not his sworn brother as the sworn brotherhood was proposed by LXC for JGY's sake. LXC also has a lot on his plate and would likely attempt to mediate rather than join any fighting. Remember, in this divergence the Lan are rebuilding without rivers of Jin gold!
For the majority of the other clans, while they won't be huge fans of JGS they are also trying to recover from a devastating war and won't be too enthusiastic about NMJ disturbing the peace. There's a bit of NPC discussion about this where they observe the same few people are competing to be CC and NMJ is the main obstacle for JGS to lock down the position. Even if it's a cold war rather than one with actual battles, the Jin even without JGY just have too much momentum and the fact is that NMJ is going to die in the near future and NHS is in no way equipped to continue his vendetta.
Of course JZX is still alive, but even if JGS pops his clogs within ten years or so, his son will pretty obviously make a terrible clan leader. JZX means well, but he has no idea what's going on around him. He is simply not up to the task, even though he's obviously preferable to JGS. But by the time JGS dies of dissipation or old age or whathaveyou, the task of straightening out the Jin is going to be even more gargantuan. And, as JGY himself rightly points out, WWX is still running around as a loose cannon about to go off at any moment. And when that situation blows up in everyone's faces, JZX might well still end up dead.
So that's what I think we'd end up with: the Nie led by an unprepared NHS, the Lan without financial backing for their rebuilding efforts, and the Jiang still mired in their own rebuilding and the WWX PR nightmare. JGS is going to end up as Chief Cultivator, just by far less elegant means, and there will be no one to take him down and extirpate corruption in the Jin and instate a watchtower programme to benefit remote and dangerous areas. The outlook is pretty bleak.
