The Mysterious Case of Sonic Movie 3 Marketing
An Op-Ed by Malzilla
Let me say this right off the bat, I am not an expert in marketing. I took Marketing classes in college for my business minor but most of it was pretty entry level but it gave me a solid foundation to understand most companies' marketing plans. Or at least try to see the method or goal behind the madness to get a scope of what they’re trying to do. But Paramount’s treatment of Sonic 3 is bizarre. We got toys, plushies etc out in stores before the first trailer.
Sonic Movie 3 has me utterly baffled. Because here we are exactly four months/120 days (122 days at the time of this writing) and do far zip zilch nada.
The last OFFICIAL news we got for the movie was back on Feb 2nd when the twitter released a little teaser showing the logo as well as some of the additional human cast members. Sure Jon Campea on his Podcast YT show announced that Keanu would play Shadow and was pretty much confirmed by official Hollywood outlets in April but no official word from Paramount has been given. They’ve been radio silent for months know, save for a few weeks in April to promote the Knuckles TV show
So why the wait? Some folks I have talked to may think there may be some internal stuff going on, but I doubt it. Yes Paramount is getting ready to merge with Skydance and some layoffs have happened but I don’t think that would affect much of the Sonic movie day to day.
So here we are at four months till release and we’re all wondering “It’s go time right? RIGHT?”
I would think so. And so has the rest of the Sonic Fandom. But alas we’re still waiting for the green light to go. So when is that green light coming?
Soon.
I hope.
Honestly, I don’t know. But looking at two other films marketing that run some parallels to S3 as well as some key dates in the next  four months. I'm going to throw some ideas out there.
First off let's look at the marketing on Sonic 2. Movie was released April 8th 2022, and its first official trailer was released on Dec 9th at the 2021 VGAs (it also had a poster released the day prior on the 8th). So right at the four month mark. They followed up with some TV spots and a special Pre Super Bowl TV spot in February AND then the final Trailer March 14th. So a fairly dense four month marketing campaign.
The other film to look at is Spider-man No Way Home, which like Sonic 3 had a December release date. NWH after months of rumors and lack of promotion (sound familiar) debuted its first teaser trailer on August 23rd 2021; roughly four months prior to its Dec 17th release date. It also had another final trailer on Nov 16th; roughly one month prior.
So if we look at both of them we see a very similar four month marketing campaign. So what does that mean for Sonic 3? Let's work backward from the release date till now. The following are dates of significance, IMO to both Paramount, Pop/Nerd/Game culture etc:
Dec 20th - Release Date
The Long Wait will be over and we all bask in the Living and Learning of it all
Nov 28th - Thanksgiving - Possible 2nd Trailer.
Given that Paramount has put Sonic TV spots before Football games before, I would not be surprised if we got the 2nd Trailer during Half Time of the CBS game that airs in the morning of Thanksgiving. This also aligns with the roughly 1 month prior benchmark as seen with both S2 and NWH.
NYCC Oct 17th-20th - TV Spots/Behind the Scenes/Movie Clip
While this date kinda is little too soon for a second trailer, it would be a great time to bring out the whole cast and do some promotion with the masses and maybe some TV spots or a small clip.
Transformers One Release Sep 20th - PONR for First Trailer
I think I can safely say that the absolute LATEST we can expect a trailer for Sonic 3 would nex month with the release of Transformers One. Paramount would have to be utterly brainless NOT to have a trailer for Sonic playing in front of their other Family Nerd Oriented IP.
Gamescom 2024 Oct 20h - 25th - Trailer Release
Kinda funny how the Opening Night Ceremony for Gamescom just so happens to fall on both the four month till release mark AND a Tuesday (Paramount usually releases trailers on Tues/Thurs)? We KNOW SEGA will be there with more SonicXShadow Generations, but really the movies are more Paramount’s game than SEGAs so there is no guarantee it will be released. BUT Paramount has passed on both Summer Game Fest AND San Diego Comic Con. Everything seems aligned for a reveal on Tuesday. I guess we’ll know if we get a poster revealed  tomorrow.
Now personally I would have started ramping up the marketing with SDCC. Because right now the two biggest competitors that Sonic 3 is going to have in Dec are Kraven and Mufassa. And both of these movies have had TWO trailers released for it.  With Kraven it makes sense since it was originally supposed to be released back in 2023 but then got pushed back 3 times. So I guess Sony thinks it can rack up a solid week one before the family holiday push. Mufassa on the other hand is going to be the big one to beat as family’s will no doubt flock to the much anticipated origin of Mufasa! That last part was sarcasm but this part is not: they need to get the word out to the casuals. I’ve talked to a lot of Non Sonic who are genuinely excited to see Keanu play Shadow. And the time is right to get them hooked.
So in the end, I will say that I’m like Jon Snow and I “know nothing” but I do know we're getting to the point where it’s time for paramount to lace up its sneakers and get going. Whether it's this week or the next or maybe till the opening of Transformers One. But I would recommend Paramount not dilly dally. Sonic Fans are easily frustrated and can turn rabid quickly.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election through a successful tripartite subterfuge.
One, Biden never really campaigned. His handlers rightly assumed that the more the public and the media saw a debilitated Biden in the flesh, the less they would want him as president.
So, the Biden campaign used the COVID lockdowns to ensure that Biden stayed safe in his basement office.
Biden strategically distanced himself from disinterested journalists, using COVID as an excuse to avoid public appearances. It allowed him to run a 19th-century, front-porch sort of virtual campaign.
In his place, the liberal media, Democratic grandees, and the billionaire donor class served as Biden campaign surrogates—vastly outspending, out-advertising, and out-lawyering the underfunded incumbent Trump.
Second, again using COVID as a pretext, well-funded Democratic legal teams altered the voting laws during early 2020 in key swing states to encourage non-Election Day voting.
For the first time, majorities in many key states voted by mail-in/absentee ballots and during weeks of early voting.
We now know why the left was so motivated to push through radical balloting changes that were otherwise impossible prior to 2020 but have been mostly institutionalized since.
Non-Election Day ballots outnumbered Election Day ballots. They were far more likely to be cast by Democrats. And as the number of such ballots soared, the traditional rejection rate of non-Election Day ballots prior to 2020 fell—even as registrars were swamped.
Once obscure terms such as ballot harvesting and ballot curing became mainstream.
Ballot deadlines were extended. There was lax enforcement of incorrect ballot names and addresses or auditing the registrars’ rolls.
Rich liberal entities, such as Mark Zuckerberg and his $419 million in 2020 cash infusions, sought to absorb the work of state registrars. His aim was to “improve” voter turnout through partisan “assistance”—from funding drop boxes to monitoring non-Election Day ballots.
Three, in 2020, the enervated left-wing Joe Biden was reconstructed as a vigorous moderate “ol’ Joe Biden from Scranton.”
Biden’s stealth script was to provide a temperate veneer to the new hard-left Democratic Party.
His 2020 campaign claimed Joe was for “unity” and “moderation”—even as it camouflaged an otherwise extremist neo-socialist agenda to be implemented after November.
Can the Democrats repeat that winning formula for Kamala Harris in 2024?
Only partly.
Even without the excuse of COVID, Harris certainly will not agree to unscripted, ad hoc interviews with non-partisan journalists.
She is unable to speak extemporaneously and off the teleprompter without appearing childish.
Her handlers will ensure few opportunities for Harris to burst into cackling or to stream her puerile musings about yellow school buses or kindergarten geography.
Yet the third element of Biden’s 2020 strategy will be difficult to replicate.
The Bay Area leftist Harris—unlike the Biden of the 1980s and 1990s—never had any reputation, feigned or not, of being a “centrist” or “moderate.”
Her entire political career was one of pandering either to leftist Democrat voters in 2020 or ultra-liberal Californians in her statewide races.
She is on record of opposing fracking and off-shore drilling, private health care, border enforcement, and the traditional close U.S. relationship with Israel.
She proudly promoted the radical new green deal, defunding police forces, mandatory buybacks of private guns, and mass amnesties.
She gratuitously championed the swindler Jussie Smollett and his fraudulent claims of being a victim of systemic racism.
During the horrendous riots of 2020, she sought to raise bail for violent rioters and looters that had been arrested.
On CBS, she egged on the 2020 protests that had already turned violent with deaths, law enforcement injuries, arson, and mass looting—despite the pathetic efforts of partisan fact-checkers to claim otherwise.
Harris gushed of the turmoil: “They’re not going to stop. This is a movement, I’m telling you. They’re not going to stop, and everyone beware, because they’re not going to stop. They’re not going to stop before Election Day in November and they’re not going to stop after Election Day. They’re not going to let up and they should not, and we should not.”
What did Harris mean by “beware?”
Was the BLM- and Antifa-led mayhem really just a “movement?”
Why boast that the turmoil might be endless—both before and after Election Day?
And why connect the massive disruptions to the upcoming Election Day—unless she believes that unrest in the streets could weaken the election chances of the then incumbent president?
In sum, Harris, like Biden, is certainly capable of running a remote stealth campaign.
She will surely take advantage of 2020’s revolution in non-Election Day balloting.
Yet, unlike Biden, Harris has no credible moderate veneer—only an unapologetic radical past and a corpus of hard-left boasts.
So, 2024 will hinge on whether Republicans will expose Harris’s lifelong, hard-left ideology and extremist agendas.
She is a poor substitute for the successful bait-and-switch 2020 con of “ol’ Joe Biden,” the fake moderate “uniter” from Scranton.
I'm hoping that she shows her TRUE colors sometime during the campaign

Blue
My English teachers taught me that a simple object in a book could mean more than my initial thought.
They taught me that a green light is not just a green light,
But a guide to hopes and dreams.
My English teachers taught me that over analyzing is key to understanding.
They taught me that the more I inspect,
The more I research, and study, and explore,
That I will recognize the most important message.
My English teachers did not teach me that symbolism is not to be used when it comes to love.
So when high school ended and there were no longer essays to highlight,
My pen found him.
And it wrote about each detail as if he were a mural painted on the side of a Philadelphia building.
I analyzed his eyes as if they were the unknown ocean floor.
And as Gatsby’s light shined green,
His eyes shined blue.
And suddenly I found my guide,
My symbol.
He was my blue.
Not only a color
But a love deeper than the sea itself.
Though I sunk while he floated to shore,
I swam as hard as I could.
Only to learn I was anchored to the same ocean floor I fell for.
But For the same reason I wondered a green light meant more than that it is,
Maybe blue is only a color.
And if it is a symbol,
Blue may not have been the best choice.

Ole Miss: 2025 Gator Bowl Champions
Tumblr media
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- — Jaxson Dart's final college pass was a 69-yard touchdown that got him chewed out by coach Lane Kiffin on the sideline.
It's one the quarterback will never forget.
Dart threw for 404 yards and four touchdowns in his final start for Ole Miss, leading the 16th-ranked Rebels to a 52-20 romp over Duke in the Gator Bowl on Thursday night.
Dart connected with Jordan Watkins seven times for 180 yards and two scores, including the longest pass play of the night with 1:27 to play. Kiffin ripped him for it afterward.
“I love him except for the last play when he checks to a pass play he’s not supposed to do,” Kiffin said. “He's got to learn a little better class there.”
Dart added 43 yards rushing, leaving EverBank Stadium with grass and dirt stains all over his red and white uniform.
The senior never considered opting out of the bowl game. Instead, he helped the Rebels (10-3) make history. With the victory, Ole Miss notched double-digit wins in consecutive years for the second time in program history and the first since 1959-60.
“This place changed my life," Dart said. "It was the best decision that I made. Just the relationships that I built with everybody here will last a lifetime.”
Ulysses Bentley IV, another senior playing his last college game, ran for 70 yards and two scores for the Rebels. Isaiah Hamilton returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown early in the third quarter. All of them got to celebrate with sideline dunks on a portable basketball hoop adorned with Duke logos.
This ACC-SEC postseason matchup was never close. It wasn’t expected to be, either. Ole Miss was a 17 1/2-point favorite, according to , mostly because the Blue Devils (9-4) were without quarterback Maalik Murphy and running back Star Thomas. Both entered the transfer portal after Duke’s regular-season finale.
Third-year sophomore Henry Belin IV made his second career start and was harassed all night. Belin completed 25 of 44 passes for 236 yards, with two touchdowns and the interception. He was sacked three times.
Belin’s TD passes were two of the team's few highlights. Sahmir Hagans' 99-yard kickoff return — off a cross-field lateral, no less — was another.
One of Ole Miss’ few miscues came when Kiffin called for a trick play on fourth down. Kicker Caden Davis’ pass got picked off in the end zone, and Dart took nearly every snap the rest of the way.
“I think the thing that jumped out today is a special quarterback who played special," Duke coach Manny Diaz said.
The takeaway
Duke: The Blue Devils won't put too much stock into the loss, not with Belin getting a rare start and more offensive help on the way.
Ole Miss: The Rebels had most of their starters play in the bowl, a testament to how they feel about Dart and Kiffin. CB Jadon Canady and RT Micah Pettus, both starters, entered the transfer portal. And LB and leading tackler Chris Paul Jr. opted out to prepare for the draft process.
Key injuries
Duke cornerback Terry Moore, who intercepted the kicker’s pass on the trick play, left the game in the first half and ended up in the locker room. Ole Miss offensive lineman Eli Acker injured his right knee on an extra point in the second period and was helped off the field.
Chewed-up field
The field at EverBank Stadium was far from pristine. The center section of grass was mostly chewed up, looking more like a community sandlot than the bright-green sod that usually seems pulled from a resort golf course. The Jaguars hosted Tennessee in an NFL game four days earlier, leaving little time to get the turf in its best shape. Overnight temperatures in the 40s didn’t help regrowth, either.
Up next
Duke awaits the arrival of former Tulane QB Darian Mensah, who will reportedly get $8 million in NIL funding over two years to play for the Blue Devils.
Ole Miss will turn to highly touted left-handed QB Austin Simmons, a redshirt freshman from Miami. Simmons enrolled two years early and spent the last two seasons watching and learning from Dart.

Tony Awards’ Viewership Slips Lower - The New York Times
Tony Awards’ Viewership Slips Lower
Sunday’s show had the second-lowest viewership for a Tonys telecast since records have been kept.
By John Koblin
June 17, 2024, 6:09 p.m. ET
Sunday’s broadcast of the Tony Awards averaged 3.5 million viewers, a decline of about 15 percent from last year, according to preliminary ratings data from Nielsen.
Though not a huge drop from the 2023 show, which reached an average of 4.1 million viewers, the viewership was the second lowest for a Tonys telecast since records have been kept.
The decline bucks a trend from other major award shows and live events, which have been piling up ratings gains in recent years. The Oscars (19.5 million viewers in March) and Grammy Awards (16.9 million in February) have recorded three consecutive years of ratings growth, as they climb out of the record lows of the early 2020s.
It also means the Tonys missed an opportunity to best the Emmys. In January, the strike-delayed Emmy Awards notched just over four million viewers, coming dangerously close to the Tonys. A decade ago, the Emmys had eight million more viewers than the Tonys. The next Emmys ceremony is in September.
The Tonys, which aired on CBS, featured performances by Alicia Keys and Jay-Z and included major wins for “Stereophonic,” “The Outsiders,” “Appropriate” and “Merrily We Roll Along.” The event received warm reviews from critics, including Jesse Green of The New York Times, who called it “a vast improvement” over previous years. Ariana DeBose hosted the show for a third consecutive time.
Given their relatively low viewership, the Tonys have long been more of a prestige play than a big moneymaker for CBS, which has been broadcasting the awards since the late 1970s. CBS is signed up to air the Tonys through 2026.
The event is also a critical marketing tool for Broadway, which is still struggling to match attendance figures from before the pandemic.
The least-watched Tonys remain the pandemic-altered 2021 telecast, when fewer than three million people watched. The most-watched recent Tonys was the 2016, “Hamilton”-fueled show, which notched more than eight million viewers..."
Let's see. They had ariana grande, Jay Z, Billy Porter, Ariana DeBose...AGAIN...and Broadway along with Holluwood have been playing Gender Cult and implying OPENLY that Heterosexual people are 'INCAPABLE OF MAKING ART'. Why would anyone support such a disgusting message? And that 'growth' seen by the Oscars is still half of the viewership it used to enjoy. You had, literally, a bunch of Clowns:

Sharpening Connections
Today I’m focusing on this section of my mind map. I’ve got a green eyes muse, and I’ve got a “too far away to be together” muse, and their stories look like they might be the same. I’m gonna see how these songs connect.
Tumblr media
When looking through my connections, I can see that Everything Has Changed was only linked to I Know Places and Wonderland by green eyes. That’s not a strong enough connection for me to keep it connected to those two songs, but I will still keep it attached to the green eye muse.
I do think Wonderland and I Know Places are very linked. We’re out here in plain sight / There were strangers watching / I can hear them as we pass by / Whispers turned to talking, and talking turned to screams / That’s a bad sign / Lights flash and we run for the fences / Flashing lights and we took a wrong turn and we fell down a rabbit hole. I am keeping them connected to one another and to the green eye muse. I’m thinking the green eye muse might be two people, but that will come out in time if it’s true, by seeing how the stories clump together.
Now the map looks like this:

So my next goal is to see how Run fits in to everything. Run and I Know Places have a similar vibe, it’s about running away together in a sense - but in I Know Places, it seems like running away from people, and in the other, it sounds like a solution to being apart. So I will sever that link for now. Maybe they’ll link up again later on.
Now it looks like this:

Now, I’m gonna see what I think connects Everything Has Changed, Message In A Bottle, Come Back…Be Here, Sad, Beautiful, Tragic, and Run. SBT connects to Run through the long handwritten note in the pocket, and the locket necklace. I feel very attached to that connection and I want to keep it for now.
Message In A Bottle, I became hypnotized by freckles and bright eyes, Everything Has Changed, all I’ve seen since 18 hrs ago is green eyes and freckles and your smile. This is a sort of weak connection I guess, but I don’t hate it yet.
MIAB seems strongly connected to CB…BH by the London reference at first glance. The connection of those songs to SBT is lonely beds in different cities. That all feels pretty relevant, so I’m going to see what these songs are about and if that offers more connections.
MIAB: Really really liking for someone who is far away, and wishing they would come back. SBT: Two people fell in love, one person left by train with a note in their pocket, the other is left behind with a locket. “Hopeful they’ll be and long will they wait.” CB…BH: Two people barely know each other but have fallen in love despite knowing it would end because one person had to leave. The person leaving seems to fly over, NYC and London are mentioned. Run: There’s a note that says “I’ll wait for you that someone keeps in a locket. They give this note to another person, who puts in in their pocket and reciprocates with a key in a chain and a picture in a frame in return. It sounds like one person has to leave, but the two dream of running away together.
These all definitely feel connected by premise. I am going to keep it how it is, because while I believe Run has the potential to be connected to CB…BH and MIAB, the strongest connection is SBT. Everything Has Changed is about falling in love very quickly with someone and knowing is different. I’ll keep the weak connection to MIAB because it does have that theme of falling in love very fast.
No changes in this clump for now!

2024 Packers 2-Round Mock Draft
With the NFL season over, eyes now turn to the free agency and draft period and seeking to strengthen their squads, the post-season period becomes fertile ground for speculation and projections. Many NFL fans have even started placing their bets at Palm casino on this round. In this context, the Packers, like many other teams, enter into a meticulous process of analysis and planning. Looking at the current roster outlook and anticipating market movements, it’s time for my first mock draft for the Packers.
First Round, Pick 25: CB Kool-Aid McKinstry, Alabama
The often underrated nickel corner position has proven crucial in high-level league settings, as evidenced by Trent McDuffie’s performance on the Chiefs’ Super Bowl run, where he not only played a vital role, but also stood out as an MVP candidate.
With Jaire Alexander and Carrington Valentine capable of playing on the outside and uncertainty regarding the return of Eric Stokes, strengthening the nickel position emerges as a priority for the Packers.
In this situation, the Packers find themselves faced with a pressing need to strengthen the nickel position, and the selection of McKinstry emerges as a highly promising choice to fill this gap in the squad.
Second Round, Pick 47: WR Xavier Legette, South Carolina
I chose to go down from pick 41 to 47, aiming to accumulate picks for day 3.
In this context, Legette’s choice stands out as a decision that promises to bring greater versatility and dynamism to the Packers’ group of receivers. His speed and explosion after the catch, combined with his ability to line up in different positions on the field, offer a range of options for Matt LaFleur.
Furthermore, when considering the Packers’ history of drafting wide receivers in the second round, with names like Jordy Nelson and Davante Adams, the bet on Legette appears to be a wise continuation of the franchise’s tradition of success at that key position. Why not continue trusting in the magic that has borne fruit in the past?
Second Round, Pick 57: S Kamren Kinchens, Miami
At pick 57, I went with Kamren Kinchens, recognizing the Packers’ pressing need at the safety position. Kinchens emerges as a promising option to inject a vital dose of physicality into the defense, a quality that has been notably absent in recent years.
His ability to read plays quickly, combined with his willingness to play physical, makes him an ideal candidate to strengthen Green Bay’s secondary. Additionally, Darnell Savage, Rudy Ford and Jonathan Owens will soon be free agents.
With the possibility of not renewing their contracts, Kinchens’ selection could become even more crucial, possibly allowing the Packers to restart the safeties room from scratch.
It wouldn’t be surprising if the Packers chose not to select a wide receiver in this draft, given the promising potential already present on the roster with names like Watson, Doubs, Reed and Wicks.
These young talents offer a solid foundation and promising prospects for the future of the position. Instead of focusing exclusively on receiver options, the team can direct its attention to strengthening the offensive line, a need that is becoming increasingly evident. With players like Runyan and Nijman set to become free agents and the uncertainty surrounding David Bakhtiari’s return, investing in offensive line talent in the first rounds, perhaps even the first two, could be a choice to ensure essential protection for Jordan Love.
