loved this episode for many reasons, but the thing i loved about it most perhaps, is that the episode didn't try to prove isabella wrong. she said that it's not all good and evil, that for her the divide is beautiful and ugly, that it's art for art's sake. she's doing something the church definitely doesn't approve of, and yet by the end of the episode, she isn't portrayed as being particularly in the wrong. in fact, the suspicion on her was misplaced the entire time.

that link above goes to the wikipedia page for aestheticism (rather than the page for the phrase itself, though you'll find the link for that there) because it feels most applicable in this context. in an age where a concerning number of people decry 'immoral' art and feel that all art should be didactic, that it should always make clear who is bad and who is good, lest the easily confused audience think that the morally bad things being shown to them are okay, it becomes defiant to say no, my art will exist for the sake of art. i will explore whatever themes i choose to and i will find the beauty in them, regardless of their 'value' to society.

evil as a series has a lot to say about society. it also has very morally complex characters and it doesn't punish them for that. kristen in particular has murdered and cheated, and she has remained as compelling and interesting since the very first episode of the show. we get to explore all her desires and shame and guilt and are never told to condemn her for any of them.

I taught one of my friends a new word today, squish! They did not know friendship crushes were a thing that existed and they have one for me! What’s notable here is the way my brain immediately went to oh this knowledge does not have the same effect as cb saying that did. And me bringing up qprs but being like but even if that is what that is im sorry but I have that spot saved for someone and like, I so clearly want to be in a qpr with cb why can’t I ask for it. Is it oh this is online is it a good idea to get into one of those? Is it oh what if we drift away in a year, you’ve done that before with people you love, never mind its never been ‘imagine a future together’ close before (and also even if it doesn’t work out forever the now matters and you’re gonna try). Is it worry over if were both at the right mental spot for that. Is it I just have no idea how that works and im scared to put in all that effort and what if I can’t put in all that effort. What if I do it wrong. You have to struggle to get happiness but what if im too tired

CB was Beethoven's best friend, and the one that let him down the most.

Once again, I'm on my way to merge these two polar opposites

Now as you already know, Confessions Of A Teenage Blockhead was completely based off of Peanuts but Bert ran with only a 20% of their actual personalities and didn't even keep the names, only some key character traits.

However, that doesn't mean I can't take elements of the comics and slap them on the play too to give it some more depth.

One of the things that broke me was Beethoven's anguish because CB didn't stand up for him, which in his opinion made it worse than him actually partaking in the bullying and the hell everyone else made. This is dangerous on it's own, but if you're a comic or cartoon nerd like me you'll notice why this is worse.

Beethoven always stood up for CB when they were kids, and if you take in consideration the timeline; it was right during (if not before) being S/A'd by his dad.

One of the biggest examples and the most memorable one was when Violet and Patty gave Charlie an used valentines card for valentines day, almost screaning profanity and calling the girls thoughtless because Charlie DOES have a heart and he IS a nice person.

This is because Charlie was Schroeder's best friend, but that's something that was overshadowed greatly by Linus being Charlie's best friend and Lucy being keen on taking all of Schroeder's time.

Contrary to popular belief, in the comics Charlie is actually very educated on classical music, at least theory and biographically wise. He was the one that introduced Schroeder to Beethoven and if memory serves he gifted Schroeder his iconic Beethoven bust. He even read all of it for him when Schroeder was too young to know how to read,and he was Schroeder's number one fan; going his way to give him some ideas and to ask important questions.

Charlie is one of the only people Schroeder willingly talks to and is able to open up about what he feels (even if Charlie talks over him a lot), he trusts him to lean on his piano and partakes in actual meaningful conversations, in contrast to Lucy, where she keeps talking alone and Schroeder gives noncommital responses unless she ticks him off.

So, of course: He's the one that hurts Beethoven the most by being completely indifferent to his wellbeing. Not even bothering to hurt him either.
