I’ve been having just a rotten time at work (for reasons too complex, stupid and annoying to explain, although don’t worry, I am not personally in any trouble) so I decided to do something constructive and enjoyable this weekend, namely a feast. I’ve made a cheese and herb soda bread, a lot of my well-received cheesy herby hamburger patties (the recipe is adapted from an Italian-American meatball recipe), some of which can be frozen for later use, and I’m slow-roasting lamb shanks with garlic, rosemary and thyme. (The burger patties are for the children and my sister, who dislikes lamb.) (There are plenty of HERBS did you notice?) I’m going to serve them with broccolini with a misonnaise sauce. There are strawberries and cream for dessert.

Tomorrow we’re going to the zoo.
