Some royals shop on their own. Back in 2011-12 I bumped into catherin at Bicester village twice. Once in April/may 2012, then later sometime towards sept/oct (I think). Couldnytell what she was buying, but vaguely remember that one was a fancy shop, the other time it was regular clothes like us and it was same shop I was getting into.
Till 2015/16 she used to shop quite regularly at Oxford highstreet as well. I've seen her at the Topshop, the Zara and once just before Christmas (when surprising noone noticed her or bothered her, but this may be way back 2013 for all I remember).
I was once at a Debenhams where the lady next to me said she was the assistant standing outside while someone was picking out clothes for Sophie. Back then I had no idea who Sophie was so the shopgirl told me she was a royal. I asked if was for something fancy, and the assistant said no, they just pick good deals when they see it.
Seen Bea out and about shipping on her own quite a bit too. But again, I left the UK in 2016, so don't know the latest.
Knew this guy once upon a time who said the men usually shop from certain shops at Jermyn street. Charles has his favorite shoe and suits guy. He gets his shirts made there. The one who made his shoes way back in the 80s still repairs them. William now has a preference for the same for formal wear and shoes. Remember Williams (infamous) desert boots? Yup, from Jermyn street. Bespoke. Now George has them too.
Wow, great info, anon!
I love that they get a chance to do their own shopping. I bet they feel it normalizes them a little, especially the married-in’s like Sophie and Kate.
I’m still curious about how they shop when they can’t do it themselves. I know that when there’s a royal wedding, the palace will solicit sketches and designers will send options, so I wonder if it’s like that all the time too. Like Kate has a James Bond premiere, does Natasha call up the designers and ask for options or is Kate browsing websites to find her own options?

She was swimming in the outfit, and the skirt looks cheaper than something you can get at Shein.
Catherine makes Zara look runway worthy. Meghan makes anything she wears look like Shein.

About medals and Charles's family order
Hello CC! Hope everything is good!
Harry has worn his medal twice since the coronation and he hasn’t worn the 👑 medal. I don’t remember if you read at the time whether the medal was given to him or not. I know that the medals weren’t ready on May 6th so he couldn’t be given one thay day, but it’s been a year and in some way if the King wanted him to have it, a way to get it to Harry would have been found. Plus Harry has been to Uk at least 2 since then.
Would you be interested in reading about it? Has Charles decided not to give him the medal even though he attended the ceremony? If so, why? Or it’s just that he wanted to give him personally and hadn’t had the chance since Harry does the flight in and out UK so quickly?
Another thing that has me wondering is why Charles still hasn’t got his order ready….I mean he had years to think about it and it’s been almost 2 years since his accession…..I don’t think it would take that much time to design and create the numbers for all the ladies that already have his mother’s. Like Fred, the Danish king, has already one. It’s kinda weird
What’s your take? I really thought they would let Camilla debut it alone with either a portrait of her in white-tie attire or at the Parliament opening since Catherine or Anne wouldn’t be present. Hope this Japan state visit in June will finally reveal it.
Thank you and have a wonderful Sunday/Monday 😊
*
Hi Nonny,
It is very interesting that Harry has not worn the Coronation medal with his other medals since the coronation. I would definitely like to read on that and see what is up.
With King Charles’s family order, it may appear at the State Banquet for Japan, or they may still be in production. I’m not sure how many royal ladies get them, but we have Camilla, Catherine, Charlotte, Meghan, Lili, Beatrice, Eugenie, Sophie, Louise, Anne, Savannah, Isla, Zara, Mia, Lena, Margarita Armstrong-Jones, Sarah Chatto, and then all the cousins and their wives and daughters and granddaughters. That is a lot of royal ladies (I am not sure if the children get the family order or not - I would hope they do as otherwise King Charles may be gone by the time they are adults and then they would not have a family order from their grandfather). Depending on which ones the King wants to honour with his family order, that is a lot of orders to prepare.
There could also be issues around the manufacture of the Family Order itself. They used to be painted on ivory, but Princess Catherine has hers made of glass because of Prince William’s stance against poaching, and King Charles may continue that. I know that Princess Catherine’s order took longer to make because it was made of glass, so maybe that is a factor as well.
Then, of course, The King could be delaying the release because he has certain female members of his family that he does not wish to wear his family order, and he does not want to face the media sulks they would put out about being excluded. without having news to drown it out.
We will have to see what happens at the State Banquet for Japan.

Well, well, well...
It's been approximately two months since the pr narrative about The Waleses being all about "the work" started.
And just think of all the pictures we now have of them working! The Waleses, they're just like us!
In fact, so dedicated is Kate to "her work" that she didn't even wear any dresses, except for that one time when she wore a dress to a memorial service for QEII in Wales.
Otherwise, Kate is all about business work! That's why she wore suits!
Just count em'!
Rugby podcast video: A Catherine Walker blazer in Prince of Wales check, Alexander McQueen Tailored straight-leg trousers/pants, and white shirt.
09 Sept 2023: Rugby World Cup appearance in white pantsuit; white/ivory Alexander McQueen blazer with white pants/trousers (possibly Roland Mouret).
12 Sept 2023: Alexander McQueen Amethyst suit
14 Sept 2023: Maje Vincio Blazer in Houndstooth tweed with black pants/trousers and shirt/sweater
18 Sept 2023: Holland Cooper Double-Breasted Twill Blazer in black with black pants/trousers and white shirt.
19 Sept 2023: Roland Mouret custom suit in beige
26 Sept 2023: Burberry Wool Tailored Suit in green
27 Sept 2023: Zara Textured Double-Breasted Long Blazer in red, LK Bennet Frieda Pants/Trousers in black
28 Sept 2023: Holland Cooper suit in navy chalk pin stripe
03 Oct 2023: Holland cooper suit in navy chalk pin stripe
04 Oct 2023: Cefinn Janie Sleeveless Funnel Neck sweater/jumper in mid-grey with Sezane Martin Trousers in mottled grey
05 Oct 2023: Oxen Sports ensemble
10 Oct 2023: LK Bennet Mya Blazer in yellow with black sweater and black Roland Mouret Axon Wide Leg pants/trousers
Wow.
THIRTEEN ensembles before Kate wore a skirt again.
She wore so many pantsuit ensembles that The Telegraph posted an article about it.
For eight out of the ten new appearances she’s undertaken in the past three weeks, the Princess has worn either a full trouser suit or a blazer with coordinating trousers. She’s mostly chosen muted colours and she’s largely been recycling previously seen pieces.  [...] If three’s a trend, then these many tailored looks point to a very deliberate change in style direction from Catherine, who has always used her fashion choices to send messages. So what is she trying to tell us here? “It’s a look of the moment, which works well on the Princess with her long legs, and those boxy jackets suit her,” said Ingrid Seward, the editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine and author of numerous royal biographies. “She wore those ‘little girl’ dresses for so long, but now she wants to look more sophisticated. It’s more of a work-day look; she doesn’t need to be in dresses anymore. A suit is snappier and smarter.” A year after assuming their Wales titles, Catherine and William are shaping their new roles for a modern era. “Catherine’s suits come at a time when the Waleses are making the way they work much more businesslike,” Seward said, adding that their increased workload and fresh approach to running their office, with the imminent appointment of a CEO, points to a polished and professional attitude from the future king and queen.  If Catherine has spent the past decade being viewed as a mother and young duchess, with a wardrobe of ladylike looks to reflect that perception, then now that she is in her 40s it may feel like the right time to swing the narrative.
Wow. Ten plus years as a royal and only now does she want to be taken seriously! So much for wearing bright colors like Queen Elizabeth II so that people can see you. It's "muted colors" time now!
And it’s understandable that she might use what Seward called “the look of the moment to craft a serious yet chic uniform that reflects her current priorities. But there are other long-time admirers of Catherine’s style who miss her softer, more classically “princessy” outfits.  “I don’t mind the occasional trouser or suit, but she’s been wearing this style so much of late,” wrote Jane Barr, who comments on the Princess via her Instagram page, From Berkshire to Buckingham. “I really miss the beautiful dresses and coats. This is, very frankly, boring. She is the Princess of Wales. I’d like to see some more pizazz.” The time for pizazz may come later in the autumn, especially if Catherine attends a state banquet set to be held in honour of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol in November. For now, though, “blazers are more powerful than a dress, tougher and less feminine,” according to Berkeley. “The armour plating one needs to get a job done, in my book.”
Oh, is it all about the work now? Blazers and business suits to "get a job done"? Just like Gordon Rayner wrote two months ago, "Kate is keen to do more." I see all members of the British press, who write about Kate and the royals, have received the message loud and clear that Kate is all about "the work."
Was there a risk that the press would assume Kate is not about "the work" these days? For what reason would anyone assume something like that? Is there something that the unspectacular Kensington Palace comms team hasn't told peeps about? Some "ongoing situation" that is going to become permanent?
I'm sure nothing significant will be happening regarding The Waleses in the next two weeks while their three school-age children are on half-term break. It's not as if we are currently in a period of time where shit just springs out of nowhere with no warning. Just ask Israel! They received multiple warnings that Hamas was planning shit and ignored it. See! They were warned about it. It didn't come out of nowhere even though everyone outside of the Israeli government didn't know about it.
You can't blame the messenger when people just don't want to listen.

“Oh I think she will make it seem like she begged him not to go but he insisted.” I’ve always thought she’d use him going against him. So, he was wearing/merching (?) Dior. There was a rumor not long ago that she was having a dress made for the coronation but that obviously didn’t happen for her. I’m wondering due to space, he was always invited because he is Charles’s son but she never was. Maybe she was trying to score an invite and had a dress made just in case? I just don’t buy that she sacrificed going to a hugely televised event for her son’s birthday party.
Oh I think she was invited but Charles refused to give in to all her demands.
Can you imagine her wanting to go dressed like Bea or Zara when Catherine, Meghan's EQUAL (in her mind), is dressed to the nines in robes, awards, and a tiara-like headpiece.
Makes you wonder what all of her demands entailed...because no way would Meghan have gone unless she was going to be dressed exactly like Catherine.

i mean i feel like a new decade brings some insecurities about your wardrobe - i've felt a bit like that this year as i've turned 30, tbh. like maybe my ripped jeans and Uggs don't cut it at this point LMAO
For me, the only thing that changed about my wardrobe going from 29 to 30 was I traded cardigans for blazers at work (largely out of necessity because the a/c in my office was frigid). Everything else in my wardrobe remained the same. I still dress like a college kid outside work. As long as you like your ripped jeans and Uggs, who the frak cares?
I think Sophie's issues with fashion come from being stuck between a rock and a hard place. She doesn't want to step on Catherine's toes since they have very similar tastes and styles. But she's also more experimental with her fashion so it doesn't make sense to have a signature designer to wear almost exclusively, like Anne does with Shibumi.
Personally I think Sophie should just say "fuck it" and work with someone to winterize the summery floral looks she's amazing at (not Erdem), but I do like her experimentation. She's busting the concept that women of a certain age have to look and dress a certain way (yes, let's admit it - The late Queen, Camilla, and Anne all dress similarly, though IMO Anne has a bit more flair) and it's forcing designers to think more objectively and creatively about that demographic. It's refreshing to see. Just pick the leather-on-leather outfits a little more carefully. Maybe run those choices by Louise, Catherine, and Zara first.
hahaha see i don't have "work clothes"!!! if it's hot? a dress. if it's warm? a dress. if it's cool? a dress with a blanket. if it's cold? leggings and fluffy socks and a blanket (current situ). i also just don't go out much, so when i do, it's usually a day date with the husband which is >nice undies>stockings>pretty dress where he can flirt with me. i haven't done a signing in a while and while i prefer a dress, i'll also swing for jeans/a blouse/heels.
But yeah. Sophie and Catherine have such overlapping styles that it's an issue but it's also kinda... not? like, just rock it. they're in a position where they can coordinate designer/style/colour and it not be an issue. who really cares if they dress similarly? surely the first rule of fashion is to wear what makes you comfortable.
but honestly leather looks good on so few people that i'd urge anyone to just not do it. same with wet-look leggings.

Interesting to see Eugenie attend that… just because I was just reading the new scandal involving Zara and H&M and how their clothes are manufactured, and I thought that I hope some ladies take notes (with some ladies I mean Letizia, Victoria, and Catherine who I all side eye for their use of fast fashion)
yeahhhhh I get that but also wearing fast-fashion makes them seem more relatable and most people don't worry about fast-fashion too much since most of us wear it so it's tough

hasn’t Kate literally been wearing jcrew for years? Eholmes seems to think she has such an insight into Kate’s clothes, if something goes against what she expects she has to freak out about it.
Literally years. YEARS. Here is a roundup from 2019 of all the J Crew pieces she'd worn and she's worn more since then:
Some of my first "repliKates" were that J Crew Tippi stripe sweater and the hair bow that she wore years and years ago. Catherine is famous and has been famous for years before people even knew who Meghan Markle was for wearing high street brands like J Crew and Zara.
It's insane that for some of these people, they truly think the RF started the day Meghan married in. Like the 10 years before that that Catherine was doing the job, she was just bumbling around and then when Meghan came in she started combing through blogs about her fashion so she could one up her or copy her every day she stepped out. It's CRAZY to think that. Catherine was incredibly popular and famous and loved before Meghan married in -- why in the world would she have any incentive to start copying her!? It makes truly no sense and Elizabeth is grasping at straws for any and all reasons to criticize so she stays a part of the Meghan fan club. It's just gross.

The Enigmatic Charm of Kate Middleton: Exploring Her Grace and Style
Tumblr media
Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, has captivated the world with her impeccable style, grace, and down-to-earth personality. Whether she's attending a royal engagement or just enjoying family time with her children, Kate consistently strikes a balance between regal elegance and relatable charm. So, what's the secret to her enduring appeal? In this article, we'll dive into the fascinating aspects of Kate Middleton's life, from her rise to royalty to the fashion choices that leave everyone talking. Let's unravel the enigma of this beloved royal and discover how she's carved her unique path in the monarchy.
Early Life and Meeting Prince William
Kate Middleton, born Catherine Elizabeth Middleton in 1982, hails from a middle-class family with a background that’s far from royal. Raised in Berkshire, England, she had a relatively normal upbringing. Little did she know that one day she’d marry into one of the most famous families in the world.
But how did Kate meet Prince William, and how did their romance unfold? Well, the two crossed paths at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. It wasn’t love at first sight, but their friendship slowly blossomed into a romantic relationship. The rest, as they say, is history! They tied the knot in a spectacular ceremony watched by millions across the globe.
The Duchess of Cambridge’s Role in the Royal Family
Upon her marriage to Prince William, Kate Middleton took on the title of Duchess of Cambridge. But what exactly does her role entail? Being a member of the royal family is no walk in the park. Kate has embraced numerous responsibilities, from charity work to representing the British monarchy on international visits. She’s involved with various organizations focusing on children’s health, mental well-being, and the arts.
Yet, despite the weight of royal duties, Kate manages to balance her public role with her private life. Isn’t that impressive? This duality is part of what makes her so relatable to people worldwide.
Fashion Icon and Trendsetter
One of the most talked-about aspects of Kate Middleton’s public persona is her fashion sense. Whether she’s attending a royal gala or just popping out for some groceries (yes, even royals do that), Kate always looks effortlessly chic. And let’s be real – haven’t we all tried to imitate her style at some point?
Kate is known for mixing high-end designer pieces with more affordable brands, making her style accessible to the everyday person. Isn’t that what makes her even more relatable? Who else can wear a Zara dress one day and a custom Alexander McQueen gown the next? She’s a true trendsetter who has redefined royal fashion in the modern age.
The “Kate Effect”
Ever heard of the "Kate Effect"? It’s a real phenomenon! When Kate wears an outfit, it sells out within hours. Whether it’s a coat from a high street brand or a bespoke evening gown, fashion enthusiasts flock to stores to replicate her look. The Duchess has an undeniable influence in the fashion world, and her ability to inspire trends is simply remarkable.
Motherhood and Family Life
Behind the royal titles and public appearances, Kate Middleton is first and foremost a dedicated mother. Together with Prince William, she’s raising three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Despite the spotlight constantly being on them, Kate and William strive to provide their children with as normal a childhood as possible. How do they manage to maintain privacy in such a public role? It’s no easy feat, but Kate’s grounded nature helps keep the balance.
Parenting Style: Down-to-Earth Yet Regal
Kate Middleton’s parenting approach has garnered admiration from parents worldwide. She emphasizes hands-on parenting, often seen at parks with her children or attending their school events. Can you imagine a royal playing on the swings with her kids? That’s Kate – relatable, yet royal!
She also values the importance of mental health, particularly in children, and advocates for open conversations about well-being. This focus aligns with her charitable work and personal beliefs, showing that her role as a mother deeply influences her public efforts.
Kate Middleton’s Philanthropy: More Than Just a Royal Duty
It’s no secret that Kate Middleton takes her philanthropic work seriously. While it’s part of her royal duties, her passion for helping others feels genuine and personal. She’s involved with several charitable organizations, focusing on issues such as mental health, child welfare, and addiction recovery.
Kate's work with Heads Together, a mental health initiative, stands out. Alongside Prince William and Prince Harry, she’s been instrumental in encouraging people to talk openly about mental health. Her involvement in these causes goes beyond formal duties; it reflects her commitment to making a real difference in people's lives.
The Graceful Yet Relatable Royal
What sets Kate Middleton apart from other royals is her ability to remain grounded despite living in the limelight. She’s often seen shopping for her family, engaging in school activities with her children, and even taking public transport when needed. Who would’ve thought a Duchess could be so relatable?
A Royal Who Breaks the Mold
While Kate adheres to many royal traditions, she’s not afraid to break from convention when it matters. From her fashion choices to her approach to parenting, Kate’s modern twist on royal duties keeps her relevant in today’s ever-evolving world. It’s this adaptability that has endeared her to people across the globe.
Conclusion
Kate Middleton has certainly earned her place in history, not just as the Duchess of Cambridge but as a beloved figure who manages to be both relatable and regal. From her impeccable fashion sense to her hands-on approach to motherhood, Kate continues to captivate hearts worldwide. Isn’t it amazing how she handles royal life with such grace? We may never fully understand the pressures of being a royal, but one thing’s for sure – Kate Middleton does it all with style, humility, and a charm that will last through the ages.

Catherine's Zara earrings are so pretty! So much for "Sayonara Zara" amirite? And the black opera gloves lend the entire look an air of slightly menacing mystery, like "Back off beyotch. I'm a Bond Girl, and I'm carrying a Walther PPK pistol in this black clutch."
I am ready to see everyone wearing opera gloves as the next big fashion it item!

All products featured on Vogue are independently selected by our editors. However, we may earn affiliate revenue on this article and commission when you buy something. When it comes to fashion and beauty, Kate Middleton has been taking more risks lately—although perhaps risks should be put in inverted commas. The royal had the audacity to debut a bright red manicure while attending Easter mass at Windsor Castle earlier this year, resulting in much pearl clutching from more conservative royal style pundits, and has been swapping out her Catherine Walker coatdresses for far more interesting pieces (take the 1995 vintage Chanel bouclé blazer she wore for an outing at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in December). For a meet and greet in Nuneaton on Thursday, Kate once again threw us a style curveball, wearing a Cefinn Petra dress that, at first glance, appeared to be floral print—as much a signature of the Duchess’s wardrobe as polka dots. Look more closely, though, and the shirt dress, which retails for $493, is in fact leopard print. It’s an unusual choice for the notoriously cautious, apolitical Kate—both in terms of the pattern and the designer Cefinn is, of course, a label masterminded by Samantha Cameron. Her accessories, on the other hand, constituted firm favourites a pair of white stilettos by Jimmy Choo and a Mulberry bag. While Princess Diana was a fan of animal prints, Kate has rarely embraced them since joining the royal family – although she did wear a leopard print Zara skirt to an Early Years event in January 2020.

For those who prefer to see the William Byron #24 Atlanta Summer Race Win Hendrick Motorsports July 9th 2023 Shirt Furthermore, I will do this royal looking more prim and proper, Kensington Palace confirmed this week that the Princess will attend the reopening of the National Portrait Gallery on 20 June. Kate is famously a patron of the museum – posing for the cover of British Vogue in honor of the magazine’s centenary exhibition in the Grade I listed institution. The NPG recently underwent a complete transformation in order to better represent the Britain of today, supported by the Chanel Culture Fund. Here’s hoping she plucks something from the French house’s ateliers in honor of the occasion. Not too long ago, the Cannes Film Festival had a strict red carpet rule No flat shoes. The festival’s longstanding requirement stated that women must wear heels, but in recent years many stars have rebuked the idea that formal dress must include stilettos. In 2018, for instance, Kristen Stewart famously kicked off her sky high Christian Louboutin stilettos, and walked the step and repeat barefoot. “I feel like you can’t ask people that any more,” Stewart said in 2017. “If you’re not asking guys to wear heels and a dress, you cannot ask me either.” While the shoe rule is no longer in effect—it quietly dissolved sometime after 2018—leave it to a style icon like Isabelle Huppert to bring back the debate on red carpet appropriate footwear this weekend.
