A social worker’s report attached to the complaint said the couple was asked how they would feel if a child in their care identified as LGBTQ or struggled with their gender identity. Kitty Burke responded by saying “let’s take the T out of it” and called gender-affirming care “chemical castration,” according to the report. She also said, “I’m going to love you the same,” but that the child “would need to live a chaste life.” Both Kitty and Michael Burke expressed hesitation around using a transgender or nonbinary person’s preferred pronouns, the social worker’s report noted.
One of the Burkes’ attorneys, Lori Windham, senior counsel at Becket Law, a nonprofit legal group focused on religious liberty, told NBC News in a statement that the couple was “shocked” when their application was denied.
“The Burkes were devastated to learn that they were denied a license to foster or adopt any child in the Massachusetts child welfare system. They’re asking the court to get rid of that discriminatory denial so that they will not be barred from fostering or adopting children in the future, in Massachusetts or elsewhere,” Windham said.
Good.
Bigots have no damn business being foster parents (or parents at all).

Random Grey's Anatomy Opinions (Part Five)
Catherine's cancer coming back is an arc that has happened at least 4 times, so the emotional impact is just non-existent at this point.
Along with the last opinion, Webber needs to either die or finally retire because there's just no emotional weight to his issues anymore.
Paralleling Schmitt as chief resident to Bailey was so interesting, and I think it would've been fun to lean into that dynamic more.
Lucas and Simone are actually really wholesome, and I hope they end up together.
Grey's Anatomy is very sex-positive, which is fine (I could do without the intimate scene pretty much every episode, but this is pretty much a soap opera, so), but it's got a huge problem with people who don't really want romance or are virgins (I'm pretty sure if an ace-spec or aro-spec character walked into that hospital, the entire cast would be flabbergasted).
Yes, the show fell off after Cristina left (she was one of the best characters and was the one who made the show iconic), but the later seasons do have some really awesome storylines and characters.
Jules has two hands for a reason, and they're for holding the hands of her boyfriend and her girlfriend (I love her relationships with Blue AND Mika, okay).
The fact that so many seasons went by without giving Helm a real love interest before Mika was messed up because she deserved some of that love she desired (and she's hot as hell).
I understand that Nick is primarily Meredith's love interest, but I thought it was a shame that they moved Nick to Boston for her when he was a really great Residency Director and the writers developed a interesting mentor-mentee relationship with Lucas.
As shitty as Owen was, Burke was not much better, and Cristina deserved a love interest who was actually good to her (my vote was Teddy).

When Catherine and Nerissa (the newly-dubbed Ginsburkes - get it?) returned from their limo tour, they realised it was Kieran's birthday so, even though it was very late and they were still in their wedding dresses, they picked him up and took him over to the birthday cake.
"Blow out the candles, nooboo!" said Nerissa. Her happiness was tinged with melancholy, as she knew that Quentin would want to share custody now that Kieran was old enough not to require full-time care any longer.
Tumblr media
Kieran aged up into yet another adorable child. I've been very lucky with the genetics so far, all things considered. I used Pooklet's method to create the original settlers (and Faye and Griffin) and I have the Maxis face templates - I'm genuinely so pleased with how cute all the kids are, while still all looking different from each other.
Tumblr media
As Spring came to a close, Nerissa and Catherine sat chatting in bed (something of a night-time tradition of theirs).
"It was a great party, wasn't it?" enthused Nerissa.
"It was," agreed Catherine. "I'm so happy to be your wife at last. I was wondering though - what would you say to having a child of our own? I was asking around in SimCity and they've made great strides in technology in recent years. They can extract DNA from both of us, mix it into one egg and then implant it into one of us! What do you think?"
Nerissa hesitated. "Darling, you know how unhappy I was the last time I was pregnant. I just can't carry and raise another child. I'm sorry; I can't."
"But you don't have to carry it! I will! I'm just so excited to start a life with you Nerissa and I love Liv so much, and of course I love your boys too, but I'd love to have a child that is both of ours. I'll carry it and give birth to it and I'll be the one to take time off from work and everything. I did it all with Liv so I can do it again. What do you say?"
Nerissa considered. "I hadn't really thought that I wouldn't have to be the one to be pregnant. I think I might actually like that! And you promise you'll do most of the heavy lifting? I could go to work and everything?"
Catherine nodded and Nerissa squealed. "Okay! I'd actually love it! Let's do it!"
The women hugged and - plans made - they tucked under, exhausted from their long day and forgoing the traditional 'wedding night'.
And that's the end of the round for the Founder Family, now dubbed the Ginsburkes! Catherine is now 45, Nerissa is 42, Liv is 7 and Kieran is 4. They've unlocked the Law career for everyone and Nerissa will be starting a job as a Legal Biller come the Summer. Let's head back to the Frumes and see how they're getting on...

Ctrl Alt Critique - Twilight
I must say, working on this podcast never ceases to be a delight. Week after week, no matter the nature of the content we’re covering, I continue to leave the studio grinning like a fool. This week we decided to cover the 2008 cinematic adaptation of Twilight. To help guide us through Stephanie Mayer’s world, we decided to bring Bailey’s sister Sammie onto the show. Plenty of laughs, critique,…

 Baronet -> Coal-miners -> Royalty
“A time may yet come, perchance, when a descendant of one of these simple artizans may arise, not unworthy of the Conyers' ancient renown; and it will be a gratifying discovery to some future genealogist, when he succeeds in tracing in the quarterings of such a descendant the unsullied bearing of Conyers of Durham." Sir Bernard Burke, 1861.
In 1861 the genealogist and publisher of Burke’s Peerage Sir Bernard Burke, in his book "Vicissitudes of Families", dedicated a chapter to the “The Fall of Conyers" which concludes with the following: "Magni stat nominis umbra! The poor Baronet left three daughters, married in very humble life: Jane, to William Hardy; Elizabeth, to Joseph Hutchinson; and Dorothy, to Joseph Barker, all working men in the little town of Chester-le-Street. A time may yet come, perchance, when a descendant of one of these simple artizans may arise, not unworthy of the Conyers' ancient renown; and it will be a gratifying discovery to some future genealogist, when he succeeds in tracing in the quarterings of such a descendant the unsullied bearing of Conyers of Durham."
Sir Thomas Conyers, was the 9th and last Baronet Conyers of Horden Hall. While a gentleman at birth, he was reduced to poverty and resided at the Durham Workhouse. His pride made him reject financial aid from his distant relatives, among them his second cousin Mary Eleanor Bowes, Countess of Strathmore, whose funeral he attended at Westminster Abbey in 1800. At the time she was one of the wealthiest women in England and is an ancestor of Elizabeth Bowes-Lyons, the late Queen Mother.
His later years were made somewhat more comfortable at the aid of another distant cousin, George Lumley-Saunderson, the 5th Earl of Scarborough who provided him with a small house. Sir Thomas died a pauper on 15 April 1810. His surviving children, three daughters had married working men in the little town of Chester-le-Street, County Durham. As if from a Thomas Hardy novel, his daughter Jane married a man named William Hardy.
For five generations Sir Thomas Conyers descendants would work as labourers, and often in coal mines once owned by distant ancestors and now owned by the Bowes-Lyon family. By the sixth generation his descendant Robert Harrison, a carpenter left his family still working in the coal mines to seek opportunities in London. There he married and had a daughter, Dorothy who married a builder named Ronald Goldsmith.
The early years of Dorothy and Ronald’s marriage and their children's upbringing were spent in a comfortable council house, providing the security needed to buy their own home. Their daughter, Carole, became a flight attendant and married a young flight dispatcher, Michael. They settled in Berkshire and spent a few years in Jordan, working for British Airways, before returning to Berkshire, where Carole started her own business at her kitchen table.
Almost ten generations and 201 years after Sir Thomas Conyers died a pauper, his descendant Catherine Middleton married Prince William of Wales on 29 April 2011.

rather than who you would like to see on the next taskmaster series, who do you think will be on it? like just your predictions or any inklings you may have!
anon if you're still around then you'll know i really took my time with this hahaha so sorry! i hope anyone reading this takes it as just a bit of fun and nbd, who knows who we'll get or who alex & the network have in mind! i'm answering thoughtfully (bc i always feel guilty not to 😩 so sorry this is long lol) but it's really just fun!!
i will say, of the more recent-ish series, i did get a few right!!! krishnan guru-murthy, nicola coughlan, alan davies, judi love, sue perkins, john robins, and joanne mcnally were people i just knew would eventually be on if the show could get their schedules right, and i was also certain sarah millican and dara ó briain would be asked — though not necessarily that they'd actually agree. when you have a level of seniority and esteem, the "it's such a great opportunity" aspect of the show isn't such a draw 😅 for some reason i feel SO PROUD about guessing nicola! i was just WAITING and wish sooooo much she had done a full series 😭😭😭 (how fun would saoirse-monica jackson be too!)
anyways, as for people who haven't been on yet — and this isn't to say i want them all to be, just that i think it's likeliest they have been asked or will be asked; i talked about who i want to see a little while ago here — it's important to consider the casting 'roles' the network has in mind when working with the producers to form a series, so i will keep that in mind too!
established comedian, typically a straight white man over 40: bill bailey, vic reeves, harry hill, geoff norcott, kevin bridges, adam buxton, ade edmondson, paul whitehouse (tommy tiernan? god i feel bad for not saying ed byrne but why do i feel like he's not gonna make it in the next few series? i'm on the fence with nick helm — unless he's friends with alex, then his chances go up significantly imo — and tom allen for some reason, and i feel like john bishop is almost too much of an ask?)
fresh talent comedian, typically a man under 40: rhys james, huge davies, ahir shah, darren harriott would be my top guesses but tbh any of the semi-recent edinburgh comedy award finalists are good bets as a majority of the winners from the last ~10 years have been on the series + throwing out tom rosenthal (i know he's not fresh fresh and also mostly an actor)...and, like, jazz emu?...just because if taskmaster know how much its audience adores weird little white twinks then they'll cast them
female or non-binary comedian: 100% sarah keyworth + harriet kemsley, maisie adam, jess fostekew, suzi ruffell. i've shifted away from betting on cariad lloyd and catherine bohart for some reason... (joanne was my no.1 lady bet for the last like 4 series hahaha)
non-comedian: this is very, very hard to predict because between comedy actors, non-comedy actors, tv presenters, news people, reality & social media stars... the potential predictions are just so endless! logically, the most likely is an established actor with a lot of comedy connections (think sally phillips, lolly adefope, liza tarbuck, sian gibson, daisy may cooper, susan wokoma; this category is where tm gets quite a few of its female contestants): matt holness, kevin eldon, amanda abbington, tom davis, sharon horgan, kathy burke, georgia tennant (also friends w alex?), su pollard, tom basden, apparently anyone from the cast of ghosts, and so on and so on and so on... + i'll also throw out maggie aderin-pocock as a serious contender + i really feel like one of the spice girls will be on new years treat
friend of alex: john robins was the prediction for the past few series, so just worth keeping in mind other people in this circle include elis james, matthew crosby, tom neenan, and so on
freebie answers because alex/greg have mentioned them before: jack dee, lorraine kelly, joanna lumley (i want jennifer saunders SO BAD give us an epic series w both ade and jen pleaseeee tm gods!!!!)
complete wild card bets that are either my instincts kicking in or my bias taking over: limmy, adam buxton, paddy mcguinness, diane morgan, daniel sloss, joel dommett, jess hynes, spencer jones??, alasdair beckett-king or josh pugh + if suzy izzard wasn't doing a big nyc show i'd say that's a good guess if only bc you know greg & alex grew up big fans
did i mention too many people?? if i had to put my money behind a single person it would be either ahir shah or sarah keyworth
these are almost all of my fr big heavy hitters when it comes to placing bets! but there are of course so many people i didn't name who i could totally see on either a main series or the ny treat — so many people just make sense and that's the beauty of taskmaster!!
