summary: miles gets a new haircut originally posted: sept. 11, 2019 a/n: it makes me giggle how miles proceeded to get this exact style in atsv. also it should be noted that the reader is meant to be masc-coded here.

You turn on your phone and see a text message from Miles.

“Look outside :)”

Peering out of the pizzeria window, you see a familiar red hoodie excitedly wave at you. Your eyes get round at the sight of your boyfriend so early on a Saturday, but you welcome the sudden visit. Grabbing your backpack, you brush past sweaty bodies and rush out the double glass doors of the pizzeria to meet Miles.

Miles beams as he watches you approach him with wide open arms that squeeze him into a warm embrace.

“Hey,” he greets you, and you laugh a little at the inside joke.

Lifting a brown hand, you stroke Miles’ cheek, causing his hoodie to fall back and revealing the rest of his head. His usual afro was now shaved; a mid-taper fade on either side of his head.

“Oh!” you exclaimed dramatically as you pulled away, “Okay Miles wit the fresh cut!” Feeling very proud of himself, Miles runs a hand over the top of his head and smirks.

“I look good, yeah?”

Then you get an idea.

“Babe, turn around real quick!”

Under the impression that you wanted to get a look at the rest of his haircut, Miles immediately turns away from you. That’s when you take a few steps back, and rush up to him, smacking the back of his head.

“¡Aye, coño!” Miles’ exclaimed as he cringed at the sudden attack.

“Caught you lackin, nigga!” you yell behind you as Miles starts chasing you down the block, nearly crashing into several strangers.

Soon you tire, and you feel Miles yank your arm back towards him as he laughs breathlessly.

“Gotcha,” he says, pulling you into a back hug that you fall into. Miles playfully pulls off your durag and waves it above your head as you try to reach for it.

He kisses your neck as your bodies melt into each other’s embrace.

The short answer is all of them (I'm obsessed, quite literally-- one of my top authors of all time); but the real answer is:

@mappingthexfiles/Apostrophic writes Mulder and Scully dating by early/mid S6; and I love those stories to death-- they're how I wish S6 had unfolded (though it captures the lightheartedness of their dynamic regardless.)

in bootleg tales do you ever plan on adding usagi? or like even just references to the guy? idek how you’d do it but was just thinking about it

As of right now, it's a pretty confident no since I'm not too fond of the franchise, though that can always change as I like to imagine.

But do I have a dubious theory on Usagi's existence in the mm-verse? Yeah lmao.

So most typically Usagi comes from a separate dimension/world to play with the crossover aspect right? Well then why were there stickers of him in Lair Experience?

As of right now my overthinking thought process to explain this is uh: Usagi's a fictional character in this series.

Whether it's a Miyamoto or a Yuichi, this Usagi would be kinda like the Jupiter Jim or Captain Ryan for the turtles (although it'd stray away from the sci-fi aspect of the previous ones). And I'd imagine Leo would be a fanboy of him similar to 2012.

And a crossover between them would end up having the "fictional guy becomes real" trope, where Usagi in their world now, Leo freaks out, etc etc. That or a random bunny mutates and ends up kinning the guy, but that idea's much more sacrilegious as much as it makes me giggle a little.

This entire idea can also be debunked when you consider that there were stickers that looked very similar to Kitsune as well so their presense in the mm experience could just be for cute references.

Again this concept has like a 0.5% of getting into bootleg, let alone actually being a correct prediction.

So, as far as I can tell, if you're looking up TCF fics on AO3, at least 90% of what you see will be one (or more) of these formats:

Reaction Fic ("In an Instant" fic alikes: all sorts of "divine intervention" and "watching the show" setups)

Where Cale is Not Cale (usually: KRS transmigrates as another character. Most commonly: Twin Cales AU.)

TCF Except Slightly AU (sometimes because of a ship, but generally a straight-up canon retelling with changed details)

Do you ship any of the turtles with anyone? or do you ship anything in rise at all?

(This ended up being a lot longer an answer than I intended hoo boy sorry about that)

Hmmm, I’m not too big a shipper tbh! Especially since I really enjoy canon interactions backing my ships, so it’s hard for me to actively like any that don’t really have that going for them. There’s plenty that I see around that I think are cute, but that’s usually the extent of my thought process for them.

For ships I more actively have, I guess I like AprilxSunita! They’re very very cute and I think they have some huge meet cute energy in their first episode together, and their chemistry is genuinely adorable (plus them being featured means more April screentime which is ALWAYS a good thing.)

I also think AprilxCasey (and when I say Casey I mean our OG girl) is really good, as I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers, and I think they have a lot in common and just bounce off each other very well (not to mention this ship in other iterations of TMNT has a loooooot going for it.)

Keeping the chain going, I think RaphxCasey (again, OG Casey) is also one with a tonnnnn of potential. They have a lot of common characteristics, and considering Raph’s whole thing with Franken-Foot, I really think there’s a lot of room there for a relationship to develop. Plus, like AprilxCasey, Raph and Casey tend to have a close relationship throughout the iterations of TMNT and it would be great to see that more with these two, even if not romantically.

Actually going back to enemies to lovers, I unironically think there’s a ton going for DonniexKendra. I know a lot of people hate this ship, but I don’t and I actually think it could very easily work whether in a love-hate way or a slow burn way. There’s a lot to like here and honestly they’re good together! Kendra is legit Donnie’s type too haha (cute, but mean.)

Lastly, SplinterxDraxum is good…when done right. I really like when people take it and don’t undermine the very real trauma that Splinter has gone through. As I’ve stated a lot, I love me some enemies to lovers, so I can see the potential here. Plus lbr Draxum was down BAD for Lou Jitsu when he first saw him haha.

I think that’s the extent to what I actively like? Everything else usually falls into “aw cute” or “ehhh not for me thanks”. And before you ask YES leosagi is cute and I’ll read fics with it if the premise is appealing, but I’m afraid I need some canon interactions to establish base character dynamics before I actively ship it alas.😔 Super cute though, no hate to it or any of the other CanonxCharacter-they’ve-never-met ships, I genuinely think people should just have fun! And for what it’s worth I really do wish we got a Usagi and Leo interaction in Rise like we have in other iterations.:(

So yeah. Overall, I have a few ships I enjoy, but I fall much more in the “prefer to keep everyone to themselves and make the focus family and friendship” category.

it's SO interesting that there are only two sentient quirks and of those two, one is Physically Attached to their person and the other isn't? i know soul and dark shadow are emitter type quirks but they almost feel like they should be their own thing, like what are the Chances of your quirk making a Sentient Thing

You gotta do what you gotta do! It's hard for me to find Rody art or fics that aren't horrendously out of character (STOP making Rody a fuckboy PLEASE-😭🙏). So at some point I stop looking. Honestly that's why I like your Rody art so much! It feels so him and not out of character in the slightest.

Also yeah it always confused that Dark Shadow was considered an emitter? Maybe there's sub categories that exist? Quirks in mha are so vast and some are just insane so you'd think there'd more than just three categories.

summary: you begin to recieve flowers from an anonymous source. originally posted: sept. 22, 2019 (wtf I was posting fics damn near every day)

You open your locker to pack up for the day and go home, and there they are.

Sunflowers.

Yesterday it was roses, last week it was daisies. It was a sweet gesture, until you found a bouquet of sunflowers on your desk with your name on the tag. This person was in your class, and knew where your desk was, and who YOU were. Curiosity peaked, you meet up at Miles and Ganke’s dorm to discuss.

“So now I have like, 3 bouquets of flowers and petals all over my locker and I really need to know who it is-”

“Whoa, whoa, slow down [Y/N],” Ganke interrupted. “Are you saying you have a secret admirer?” You nodded, frantically. You’d only met Miles and Ganke the previous week, but, for some reason, you felt you could tell them a whole lot.

“I need you to help narrow down who could be giving me all these damn plants, because I’m running out of space in my vase at home,” you frowned. Miles smiles to himself at the thought of you taking the flowers home and caring for them. “They’re obviously in my homeroom, since they know where my desk is at, right? Miles, who’s in our homeroom?”

Startled out of his thoughts, Miles finally speaks after having been silent this entire time.

“Uh, there’s me and you, Andre, Miranda, and… That’s all I know.”

Sighing in frustration, you plop down on Ganke’s bed next to where Miles sat.

Impishly elbowing your arm, Miles, asks, “Is there anyone you want it to be?” Not catching onto the joke, you actually answer. “Hmm. I hope whoever it is is like, really sweet and artistic. I like artsy types.” Miles feels a glimmer of hope at that. “You’re mad corny,” he laughs.

The next day, you find more sunflowers and daisies in the holes of your locker, but there was something else there, too.

Stuck to one of the bigger sunflowers was a baby-blue sticky note, your name written in a bubbly font and decorated with neon patterns. Cute.

Miles opened his locker next to yours.

“More flowers?” he asked. You smiled and showed him the sticky note. “Look, they drew this, too! Isn’t that cute?” Miles smirks a little, though you don’t know why.

It was a Friday, so you texted Miles that you were coming over to hang out. Before you even ring the doorbell, he opens the door to let you in, beaming.

“Hey [Y/N], pizza’s here already. Don’t just stand there, now!” After greeting his parents, you both head to Miles’ room with the box of pizza. Of course, his Bluetooth speaker was blasting Swae Lee. You still had the sticky note in-hand as you sat on his bed, taking a slice of pizza.

“You good, Gonzalo? You been mad quiet lately.” Snapping out of his gaze at the mention of his middle name, Miles replies, “I’m fine, I’m fine. No need to use my government name.” Looking up, you notice a pop of color on Miles’ desk. It was piled with sketchbooks containing elaborate designs that looked like they belonged on a mural.

“Those are nice,” you tell him, pointing at the pile of drawings. “Thanks, made em myself, you know.” Miles internally facepalms himself. They’re on your desk, of course she knows they’re yours!

You get up from the bed to get a closer look at Miles’ designs. The circular lettering and neon color palette look… familiar. Then you take the sticky note out of your back pocket. A sheepish grin creeps onto your face as everything starts to make sense.

“Miles, you been giving me all those flowers?” Smiling playfully, he gives you a big shrug that said, ‘I’ve been caught, so yeah.’ You suck your teeth in feigned annoyance and hit Miles with a pillow. You both descend into uproarious laughter as you continue hitting him. “I really hate you, bro!”

“What, I’m the artsy type!” Miles jokingly exclaims, earning him another smack with the pillow. The two of you flop back down on his bed, exhausted from all the laughing.

“Did you buy all those flowers yourself?” you finally ask. Miles replies, “Yeah, man! 20 bucks each,” and you snort a little.

“All that for a prank-?”

“It wasn’t a prank.” Miles’ tone is somber, now. He isn’t grinning anymore. You don’t understand.

“What does that mean,” you prod further. He turns his head to look you directly in the eye. “Well… I kinda like you. Just a little. So I got you flowers.” You continue staring at him, at which he says, “…sorry?” You sit up, and so does Miles.

“You’re so fucking stupid,” you tell him as you pull him into a suffocating hug. “Wanna go out sometime?”

Miles chokes out a muffled, “Yes!”

I’ve recently been reading your Cover of Knight series on ao3 (love it by the way) and am really curious on any (non-spoiler) thoughts you might have on if Khonshu knows about the Inner Child? When reading, I didn’t get the feeling that he was aware of Gus until the suit-alter showed up? So maybe he doesn’t have as good a read on the system’s mind as one might assume.

Also, what might his reaction be if he meets the Inner Child (I read somewhere that he is a protector of children I think? so I’m hoping that he’d be protective and nicer than he initially was to the others)—that is if Marc and the others LET him meet her anyway.

I do have thoughts, yes! General ones, even, so they're not inherently Cover of Knight spoilers.

Khonshu can definitely perceive more about the system's mind than the average non-psychic human. But I figure he only looks deeply enough to see the "top level." When Marc showed up in his temple, Khonshu poked around enough to determine that he was "fractured" and that somebody else was in there, but didn't pry out a complete roster of headmates.

Between then and the Ammit conflict, Steven and Jake both fronted regularly enough that Khonshu had a chance to think "huh, my Avatar seems different right now, gonna take a closer look and see if this is someone new."

Any headmates who only fronted for short periods, and didn't do anything unusual enough to get Khonshu's attention, he wouldn't know about. (CoK Gus is in this category.)

Anyone who never fronted at all, he definitely wouldn't know about.

OG mythological Khonsu is associated with children, yes! His human form is portrayed as a child, and fun fact, the first "physical form of Khonshu" we saw in Marvel was kid-shaped:

So, here's some possible fic versions of MCU Khonshu meeting Inner Child:

Khonshu is protective and nice! Marc + Steven + Jake are prepared for it to go badly, then no, it's genuinely sweet and heartwarming all around. Everyone is gobsmacked

Khonshu tries to be his usual manipulative negging self. Marc + Steven + Jake immediately circle the wagons with "what the hell, you are thousands of years old and you're bullying a child, step off and think about your life choices." Bonus: Marc has a moment of "well of course we shouldn't leave her alone to get picked on, little kids don't deserve that, no adult has a good excuse in the first place to -- ohh"

Khonshu tries to be mean...but Inner Child is meaner. Because she's a middle-school girl, and nobody can be more terrifying than a middle-school girl. The guys are so proud

Khonshu responds by switching to his own middle-school form. Him and Inner Child start bonding. The guys quietly panic over "wait, was Khonshu always the equivalent of a human 12-year-old?? because...that explains a lot actually"

“We are still under wartime policy,” the recruiter had told her parents. He had an envelope in his hand. He sounded sorry. “She has two parents who are successful ninjas. We would be remiss to overlook her potential based upon that alone.” The Third Shinobi War never ended. Konoha needs more soldiers, grabbing anyone who can fight, especially those who can't say no.

You guys, I love this one to death. It's definitely a darker take on the Naruto universe, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The civilian born shinobi are deemed as more expendable and thus thrown into war while the clan born remain sheltered. I found it quite interesting that the Uchiha were also lobbed into this group, but it was more done as punishment instead. Very raw and properly gets across the devastation that this brings.

Sakura is twelve when she queues up in front a desk with a bunch of other equally-terrified looking shinobi. The ages range from younger than her to old enough to be her grandpa. The man sitting at the desk is stony-faced as he doles out assignments. Sakura obediently shuffles forward when it is her turn, and recites her shinobi identification number in a shaky voice when asked. When the provost marshal looks at her, looks down at his paper, looks back at her, and grimaces, Sakura knows it’s not going to be good. OR How Sakura survives the war, told in bits and pieces.

Canon-fodder! Sakura makes her shinobi debut on the front lines, forcing her to get creative in her means to survive. It's gritty, raw, and the clever use of seals is great! In most of the other works of this type, Sakura is placed on a team of sorts or has some "support" (kinda), but here she is all alone. She is forced to fight for her life, to keep going despite how she feels because ultimately, Sakura does not want to die. She does meet some people later on though and it was great to see. Y'all know this type of story is my personal guilty pleasure (also one of the best I've read thus far)...

Find Your Place (whatever it takes) - Dovey || ao3 || third war extended AU || incomplete

The war lasts longer than in canon, and has only just ended. While most of the 'Konoha 12' are clan heirs and thus protected from having to go to war prematurely, Sakura is from a civilian family, with naturally advanced chakra control, and thus is thrown immediately onto the frontlines. Now she's on a genin team in peacetime, and she's struggling to figure out how to live when she's not constantly at risk of dying. Team seven bonds in new weird ways, The Uchiha are actually all dead except for Sasuke (including war-hero itachi) who's got a chip on his shoulder the size of Konoha, Naruto isn't the kyuubi container and he finds Sakura kinda scary. Sakura would just like to have a hobby.

Find Your Place (whatever it takes) is the og fic of this category as far as I am aware. The main difference to consider is that it primarily focuses on the aftereffects of the war and the impact that it had on Sakura as a person.

She’s under Neji's command, which apparently means she’s under the Hyuuga’s command. The Hyuuga’s role is on the frontlines, but Neji must be special for a kid from the branch family, because they mostly send him and Sakura out after the big battles are done, to pick off the wounded, and burn bodies. Sakura kind of wishes she had someone to keep her from the big fights, too. Her job is with Neji, taking back kekkei genkai and retrieving important people’s bodies, but she has other assignments, too. She’s given a dull kunai and told to go through the battlefield, dodging blows and jutsus from friend and foe, slashing at whatever isn’t wearing a Konoha headband.(the third shinobi war doesn't end, dragging on for years. konoha is running out of troops, and unimportant children in the academy with even a modicum of talent are snatched up to the warfront. sakura, unfortunately, is one of them. so is neji.)

Such a strong beginning, although, I gotta say that the ending was rather disappointing imo. There was so much potential, but the author admitted to not wanting to continue the story so it was cut short. Hopefully more works of this nature will come to light!

Definitely not my favorite take on this trope, but it fits the bill, so it's here! Anyway, tbh I never actually made it far enough reading to get to the actual war part, so I don't have too much to say.

AHHHHH I'm praying for the day we get another chapter of Ground Zero!! I really appreciate how we actually get a training arc where we get a base of the characters and how this system works before they properly get dispatched. The characters and their emotions are so well done that you truly feel how unfair the situation is. They aren't heartless, they are children. Highly recommend.

The fic isn't quite long enough for the story to have properly gotten going. Therefore, I don't really have any comments.

Basically, Sakura is kinda a weirdo to the point her parents feel it's the best decision to send her to the academy lmao. Anyway, she ends up being conscripted into the war where she later forms a team with Neji and Sai. It's actually really heartfelt to see how the three of them grow to cherish and rely on each other. The dynamic is truly great because they do not get along at first. With Neji as their captain he's stuck trying to deal with the bickering Sai and Sakura. It really makes them feel their age. It's also interesting to see how their growing reputations within the camp affects each of the characters. Definitely try this one out!

HALLOWEEN MOVIES WITH MAMMON

okay so

at first when you say you want to do a horror movie marathon with him, he's hesitant

yeah, human world horror might seem a bit lackluster for a demon, especially ones centered around possession or summoning- they might even see some as comedies if the execution was done poorly

but possession hits a bit too close to home for mammon, and he's never been a big fan of horror in general

you see him hesitate and before he has the chance to hide his feelings and force himself to agree, you give him an out

"hey, we don't have to if you don't want to... I just thought it might be fun since Halloween is coming up and it's a fun way to get into the spirit of it all. I won't force you, my love."

and he almost takes it.

but then he thinks about how you were probably really missing out on human world holiday traditions... and he sees the bit of disappointment you're trying (and succeeding for the most part- if he didn't know you as well as he did you would have fooled him) to hide

so with a deep breath, he sucks it up and shakes his head. "no, it's okay. we can totally do that! pick a time and place and we'll binge as many as ya want."

your eyes light up and you grin. "really?! thank you so much, mammon! I promise we'll start off with some easier ones and work our way up! I'll go make a list."

he doesn't regret his decision one bit and appreciates that you're being considerate of his feelings

until he realizes that your definition of "easy" horror movies didn't exactly align with his.

the first movie on the list was not "easy" at all, and at first he thought you were pulling his leg a bit

until he saw that you looked almost bored whenever there was a jump scare

it was almost embarrassing that he was clutching the pillow as tight as he was, but you were so focused on the movie that you didn't notice.

you did make sure to periodically check on him in between scenes and during bathroom breaks, but he didn't want you to feel bad, so he put on a brave face that seemed to sway you

he somehow made it through the first movie, and the second, but by time you were on the third (still in the "easy" category, you had said), he felt mildly sick to his stomach

during the movies, you had actually laughed during a few of the scary scenes.

how were you so desensitized to the horror genre?!

he usually admired your bravery, but this was a whole other level.

this third movie had to do with a zombie apocalypse, and you teased him, saying it reminded you of that haunted house you both got trapped in forever ago.

he tried to laugh with you, but at that moment the main character came into contact with one of the zombies and he wasn't able to hold back his scream since his guard was down

suddenly he was hiding his face in your shoulder, and shivering in your arms

poor baby starts apologizing and shaking his head when you pause the movie to check on him

"mammon have you been trying not to let on you were scared this whole time?!"

he tries to deny it but you give him a stern look and he sighs, nodding, starting to shake less now that the initial shock had worn off

"I just wanted to make you happy! I know how much you must miss human world halloween traditions and I wanted to make it feel more normal for ya..."

you smile at him and cup his cheek.

"mammon, that's sweet, but I'm literally in hell watching horror movies with my demon boyfriend, it doesn't get more halloween-y than that for a human," you giggle when he pouts and you lean down to kiss it away

"and if you were scared, you could have told me! we can watch something else, it's totally fine. it's no fun if only one of us is enjoying it."

he reluctantly agrees, still feeling bad for "ruining" your horror marathon (to which you reassure him that he didn't ruin anything, and then apologize for not realizing sooner).

so for the rest of the night you watch horror parodies (which are definitely more his speed) and cuddle up together under the blankets until you both fall asleep, thankfully nightmare free.
