Watching Through My Collection: Day 27/36
Stephen King's Cat's Eye (1985)
Day 26 / Day 28
Throwback to my very first review in this challenge; Creepshow (1982). Where I had known about Creepshow, I'll admit I didn't even know this was an anthology until I got it started.
Ironically, I knew a lot more of the names in the opening credits this time, than I did in Creepshow.

CW: Animal endangerment, rape (mentioned and implied), extreme heights
I love horror anthology movies the most because there's such a variety of ways for stories to be strung together. Following this cat's interstate adventure on his divine mission from a little girl in between story segments is actually a ton of fun. The animal acting in this movie is top notch.
The ton of Stephen King references peppered throughout were also fun to catch.

Now, I grew up in the 2000's so my knowledge of James Woods is "that actor Family Guy killed." And Videodrome (1983).
I can kind of understand why he was such a major actor in the 80's and 90's, though. He's so damn expressive! I loved watching him react to horrible things and be just a little bit of a sleezeball.
This segment also made me really glad the mafia never got into the self-help motivator business.
The Ledge
Tumblr media
I was distracted for most of the time by the desire to watch Airplane! (1980). Only as soon as I saw Robert Hays finally.
Once I got past that famous face connection, I'd say this was my favorite segment of the bunch. I absolutely hate heights and the thought of having to scale around the top of a building is terrifying! They did an amazing job with the angles of shots to accentuate the danger.
Throw in the obstacles he had to get around and the crazy rich guy popping around corners to keep him moving, and the tension in this part had me glued to the spot.
Not to mention the ending was satisfying.
General
Tumblr media
I love when movies have a guy in a costume running around an oversized set.
Considering that this was essentially the culmination of the cat's journey and the last segment of the movie, it still felt a bit slow.
Obviously, after all the other very mundane dangers of the other stories, this little cat vs goblin story was a lot different, but no less fun. Young Drew Barrymore was super cute and her character's relationship with her dad was really sweet.
I just think I was ready for the whole adventure to be over before the story had finished building up.
Thankfully, the final fight between the cat and whatever creature was stealing the girl's breath was extremely fun and satisfying.
All-in-all, it was a really fun anthology of horror and I'm glad I was able to watch it with a bunch of friends. That's the optimal way to watch any of these.

Cat's Eye (1985)
Tell me three stories of risk and woe, Of the darkness that bubbles from depths below.
Like when addiction traps us in an undertow. Or the fall from grace of a tennis pro.
Let us see the monsters lurking beneath what we know, As we sit back, relax, and follow the stray cat's flow.

dementor - @wolfstarmicrofic - word count: 309
The evening of October 31st, 1985 dawned cool and clear. From inside James and Lily's little cottage, Sirius peered out onto the street, watching the small children who had already gotten a start on their Trick-or-Treating, and allowed himself to get lost in thought, his emotions twisting and dark.
That is, until a hand rested on his shoulder, bringing him back to earth.
"Ever wonder what life would be like? If we didn't catch Peter?" he mumbled, turning and curling into Remus's arms, basking in the warm feeling of safety he found there.
"Only when I'm feeling particularly depressed," Remus quipped, tightening his hold on the shorter man. But after a minute, he sighed. "Awful. Gods, it would have been...unbearable."
It went unacknowledged between them that if they hadn't caught Peter, they might never have reconciled. Figured out that the other was not a traitor. Admitted to their feelings and found the love they had now.
Sirius nodded, pulling back a bit and staring into chocolate-brown eyes. "I love you. I'm so thankful we have this. Us."
But before Remus could agree, could pull him into a kiss or whisper adoring sentiments into his ear, a voice yelled from down the hall.
"Uncle Pads! Uncle Moons! Look!"
And they both turned to find Harry running toward them dressed in dark robes, a hood covering his head.
"Ah!" Remus pretended to scream, making a terrified expression.
"Isn't he scary?" Lily asked, following him, wearing cat ears and an adoring look. James followed her as well, his superhero cape trailing along behind him.
But Sirius looked at Harry a bit nervously. "Why'd you have to pick dementors, though? They're right creepy."
"Don't worry, Uncle Pads," Harry reassured him with wide green eyes, slipping his small hand into Sirius's. "Uncle Moony will protect you."
Remus's smile and nod of agreement was breathtaking.

i think i just met my dad in 1985.
-
thinking about you & bakugou having a kid who’s quirk was the ability to time travel, and it’d never crossed your son’s mind that he’d be able to go back in time to meet you & bakugou back in your highschool days to see how you two interacted.
that’s exactly what your son, tatsuki, (can you guess who chose his name?), decided to do with his twin sister, akari.
“i dunno why you wanna go back so far, ‘suki. they’re like a gazillion years old. plus i don’t think they were much fun back when they were younger.” she spoke as her brother lead her to a secluded spot so he could time travel.
“but that’s exactly why i wanna go! i wanna see if they were fun.” tatsuki smiled as the blue light enveloped the two twins, warping them through time back to when you were still two heroes in training.
they landed outside a building, buses were littering up the street as kids in their school uniforms surrounded them.
“i programmed my settings to that it could take us back to when mom and dad met. i dunno where this is though.” tatsuki looked through his programming, making sure everything was right.
“stop feigning interest! you got some nasty look in your eye, you don’t mean what you’re saying.”
they caught the sound of a boy’s voice as they looked towards the noise, a blonde haired boy with red eyes and a loose fitting uniform was standing next to his classmates, a scowl on his face.
“is that?” akari stood stunned, her brother looking up at the boy.
he was shorter than he was now, and his hair was untamed. his face was so childlike, and he hadn’t grown into his features yet.
“alright, alright! you got me. ua’s second rate, if ya ask me. see ya on the flipside.” your grin was something similar to a chesire cat, and your arms were up in defeat as you walked away from the boy, an “s” on your black cap as you entered the building.
imagine your kids surprise when they set the clock forward a year, seeing you and bakugou walking together, his face had an angry expression on it as he walked next to you, his hero mask pushed up to his hairline. you were two work study students on patrol, how cute! although it was clear that their dad couldn’t stand you.
so just how the hell did you two get married?
