I'm referring specifically to the Jack that appears in The Shining, so there are no Doctor Sleep options. Apologies.

The 1997 version of Stephen King's The Shining will be released on Blu-ray on March 12 via Scream Factory. Displeased with Stanley Kubrick's 1980 adaptation, King took it upon himself to write the script based on his 1977 novel.
Mick Garris (The Stand, Sleepwalkers) directs the three-part miniseries. Steven Weber, Rebecca De Mornay, Melvin Van Peebles, Courtland Mead, and Wil Horneff star.
Special features are in progress and will be announced at a later date.
Jack Torrance (Steven Weber) and his family (Rebecca De Mornay and Courtland Mead) move into the sprawling, vacant Overlook Hotel to get away from it all. Away from the alcoholism that derails Jack's writing career. Away from the violent outbursts that mar Jack's past. But Jack's young son Danny knows better. He possesses a psychic gift called the shining — a gift the hotel's vile spirits desperately want.
Pre-order The Shining.

if I took a shot each time Jack said "pup" in the 1997 version of the Shining, I'd be dead

31 Horror Movies in 31 Days: October 11, 2024: Stephen King's The Shining(1997)
It has been twenty seven years since I last saw this movie. At the age of thirteen there was only one moment in the movie that seemed creepy: when Jack's dad is speaking to him through the CB. The rest, meh.
Twenty seven years later? Not a thing about this is creepy or scary. Steven Weber surprisingly gives a good performance for an atmosphere lacking, pretty much nearly everything lacking movie. This is a four and a half hour movie and the book is a little over four hundred pages. By no means whatsoever should this have been made into a miniseries. The only strength this movie has is that the characters actually feel like characters. Everything anybody remembers being creepy about The Shining by Stanley Kubrick is absent in this movie and the book.
I give this movie credit though. Having read the book years ago, it was a good book and I am actually thinking of rereading it. What is completely lacking in all adaptions is the way things are phrased and written, Literally something you cannot adapt. And a lack profanity and overt sexuality is lacking in any adapted works for tv.
I feel like I'm avoiding actually talking about the movie. And I think the reason for that is because everything that was creepier about the book is just terrible visuals and lackluster production value. And it really starts to feel its length probably only in the first part of three in the movie.
Nothing else to say but read the book or read more.
