Nothing could have prepared you for the worst news of your life: you, aware that you love loneliness and hate forced contact with others, were assigned to group work with Aeri Uchinaga, famous for not contributing to any group work and for being always in the middle of too many, too many men.
After leaving a resigned sigh you approach your best friend Jimin to tell her about the unfortunate fate that struck you. "Among all and I say among all those that could happen to me, HER" "You’re tragic even if she has a bad reputation. Perhaps a woman like you who does nothing but read, read, and read will surrender and become incredibly willing!" "Funny Jimin. Who did you get?" "Juyeon and they also say that besides being incredibly beautiful he is also incredibly gifted" whispers Jimin, thinking that this could save her from the embarrassment of such a statement. "Enough, I’ve heard enough. I’m going home."
On the way back, angry and sad, you noticed a really nice coffee in which you would have wanted to stop but the change that you had in your wallet would not be enough even for half a sandwich. The puff you pulled out scared a stray cat that was stealing a piece of bread from the ground. Why does everything feel so strange to me?
The next day, as you arrived in class, you noticed Juyeon’s huge body very close to your best friend’s; you came up to check if Jimin was all right only to see that her face had a loving expression. "Good morning guys" you are starting, trying to forget what you just saw. "Hi, Jimin told me a few things about you. How nice to meet you" The two-door wardrobe that took the name of Juyeon squeezed you in a strong embrace that leaves you breathless. Men are really scary. "Hey Y/N, Giselle was looking for you earlier." "Who?" "That’s how us boys call her!" "You… guys?" "Giselle is part of my group, at least once we all go out together!" Juyeon’s enthusiasm was overwhelming but not enough to influence you. "Ah, she's going out with you."
"Y/N" What a hateful voice, not changed by a comma. You didn’t sunbathe at first; you wanted to see how much the little princess could have withstood without a bit of attention. Juyeon - this time with the help of Jimin - thought about involving her. "You might as well look me in the eye when I talk to you." "Go fuck yourself, Giselle. You sound like the 'ass-kicking' girl”. It didn’t take even half a second for you both to turn in the opposite direction. Jimin and Juyeon, moved by the situation, tried to calm things down. “How about you girls come to my house? Jimin and I have to do our project but there’s no problem if you come too. The table is big, the fridge is full and the more the merrier!” Juyeon shouted enthusiastically.
The idea of being alone in an empty room with Giselle terrified you so it didn’t seem like a bad idea to accept without too many problems; the other seemed to agree too.
“Perfect! Then let’s all go to Juyeon’s this Friday afternoon!” Oh Jimin, you could have avoided this.
Unfortunately for you and Giselle, Friday arrives in the blink of an eye. Juyeon’s imposing house stood in front of you and Jimin. “Not only is he handsome and gifted, but he also has a huge house. What more can I ask for?” “You could say a little prayer for me, for example” “Giselle won’t be able to tear your hair out if Juyeon and I are there with you” Jimin smiled at you as if to reassure you. “Good thing you always see the positive side…” you replied, already tired at the idea of having to enter that house.
When you entered, Giselle was already sitting on the wicker chair in the lush garden that was attached to the house. “Girls, here you are. Jimin can you help me bring some snacks out?” Jimin didn't have to be told a second time and rushed to help the boy after sending you a flying wink. You approached Giselle and sat in the chair opposite her, to maintain some distance. It was the first time you had seen her like this. The dark hair that she always combined with clothes of the same shade was this time combined with a long white dress that made her almost ethereal; the glasses made her face prettier than the one she had always adorned only with heavy black makeup which yes suited her well but a lighter shade made it stand out even more. Maybe you found yourself staring at her too much because when your eyes met you saw a smirk of victory on the girl’s face.
“Are you admiring what you’ll never have?” “And what is this thing I’ll never have? Dignity?” “The chance to brag about how beautiful you are” “Oh, the princess of everyone’s bed spoke” “I don’t have sex with men” Giselle replied somewhat upset. “Oh, so all the things they say about you are false?” “My group of friends is made up of all gay men and one straight man” Concern for Jimin filled you for a moment and you stopped the conversation in progress. “Juyeon's not gay, right?” “As if your eyes can't see how he's hitting on your best friend, you dumbass.” "Here's all the snacks!" Your darkened and frowning faces turned abruptly towards the two newlyweds and then shouted "Shut up!" Jimin resignedly rolled her eyes.
The first half hour you and Giselle spent arguing over the theme of the PowerPoint presentation. “This is an old lady color” “This is a funeral color though Y/N!” "You love funeral colors!"
The next two hours were spent looking for information on the same topics which later turned out to be identical; cause for further argument. When Juyeon and Jimin finished their work, you were still in the first part of the project. Your best friend and the guy disappeared somewhere after two minutes; when you received a message from Jimin you found out that the two had gone to stock up on chips.
“So you hate me?” You never expected to see such a piercing look on Giselle’s face. “No, I find you annoying and everything they say around you about you seems to confirm it” “I already told you this is all fucking fake” The black-haired girl ran a hand through her hair and turned her gaze elsewhere. “People love to say everything that comes to their mind. I'm a lesbian, men don't interest me. After I refused to have sex with a guy I was paired up with for a group project, he went around telling people that I'm a terrible partner and that well… slutshaming and other not-so-nice things about me."
The silence that followed immediately afterward was extremely embarrassing for both of them. “I said a bunch of bullshit, I'm sorry. I always imagined you through gossip, even though I know that Jimin doesn’t think of you as a slacker and that Juyeon is your best friend” “Y/N” Giselle tried to butt in. “Listen Aeri, I’ll make it up to you. I don’t like you but I have to admit that despite the various arguments you’re a real looker and what you say sometimes makes me laugh so all in all, you’re not bad” Giselle laughed. “Oh my god, are these supposed to be an apology?” "My apologies" “You should make them better. No nice man would pursue such a lunatic." “I'm not interested in men. They're just accessories to me.”
Giselle only stopped laughing when you said that. “But the two boyfriends you had last year?” Without asking how she knew, you continued with your speech. “A Cover to keep my parents from realizing I’m a lesbian. Same old story. They were nice accessories at least”
The tension between the two of you was growing more and more. Giselle slowly approached you, first placing a hand on the floor where you were lying and then bringing a leg forward. “How long has it been since you kissed a woman, Y/N?” You gulped down. “How long has it been since you kissed a woman, Aeri?” Giselle was a millimeter from your lips, hand on your thigh, and hand next to yours. If only it hadn't been for the scream that Juyeon pulled open the door, something would have happened, Giselle quickly moved away and muttered “What an idiot he is” as if the house didn't belong to him to begin with.
“We’re back! Is everything okay or did you get into a fight?” A restrained, fake laugh came out of your mouth and so did the words that came out of it. “We were one step away from having ourselves by the hair” You couldn't describe the look Giselle gave you.
The next day at school, you noticed that Giselle’s desk was empty. Worried, even though you didn’t want to admit it, you asked Juyeon for the girl’s number. Juyeon couldn’t help but smile as you saved the number on your phone. You immediately texted Giselle, asking why she hadn’t come to school and threatening to break into her house through the window if she didn’t answer. To your surprise, Giselle responded a few minutes later with a raised middle finger emoji; to which you of course responded with another middle finger. The next message made you lose your mind. “Bitch, I'm waiting for you at my house. Don't break my door, please”.
As you walked towards Giselle's house, you wondered where this interest in such an annoying person had come from. Interest was a big word, but yesterday you were the one who almost threw yourself into the arms of a girl you felt like you had hated for a lifetime.
When you arrived in front of Giselle's house, you knocked so loudly that the one who looked out the window was the neighbor and not the interested girl. "Holy God, what a mess you make!" Giselle in pajamas and slippers opened the door and made you smile. “Cute pajamas” “Go shit”
You went up the stairs and arrived in the girl's room. The room, to your surprise, was pink wherever you turned to look at it. “Hello Kitty puked on it?” “Perhaps you mean My Melody” “Even the canopy bed, princess” Giselle lay down on the bed and waited for you to do the same. “Shall we finish the work?” “I’m in”
Compared to the day before, things seemed to be going better. It wasn’t just the arguments that kept the exchange of information going but also the moments where you both dedicated time to listening to each other’s opinions.
“Done! And fuck it all!” “Hopefully we get a good grade” "God Y/N who cares! It's already a miracle to have managed to finish something like this." You nodded to let the other person understand that for once you agreed on everything. You printed out the sheets with the part that each of you had to do for the presentation and then threw yourselves on the bed again, tired of everything.
“Do you find school that fun?” Giselle was the first to speak. “No, simply when I don't know what to do I start reading, reading, reading. At least that’s what Jimin says” “I can’t stand it.” “Maybe you can't stand the people who are there” “Yes, but I hate everything about that place. The desks, the air that makes me uglier, the men, the homework, and group studies" You thought a few more seconds before answering her and, taking a deep breath, you turned towards her. "I can make you change your mind" “You can try but I don't know how well it works” “There's me and Jimin in the class. Then we can study together and everything will seem fun!” “See… You like school” Giselle's face darkened. “I enjoy being with Jimin. There's also Juyeon! And well… I'm here." Giselle turned away and didn't speak to you anymore.
A day went by and Giselle never replied to your messages. That morning you were supposed to present the group project. Not only had she stopped responding to the messages you were sending her under the desk, but she was also late for the presentation. A terrible thought passes through your mind. Did she stay home? She knows that the teacher gives a failing grade when something like that happens.
Jimin and Juyeon brilliantly finished their presentation and the applause, luckily for you since you were supposed to present later, lasted for two minutes. “Y/N and Giselle are next. However, I see that one of the two is missing. I will have to give you a good-” The classroom door suddenly burst open and all the eyes of your classmates and yours moved from the teacher to the figure of Giselle, who noisily began with a “Teacher, Y/N and I are ready to present!” A small smile appeared on your face.
Fortunately, the presentation given by you and Giselle surprised the class and the teacher who seemed to have very low expectations. During the break, you grabbed Giselle by the arm and led her to a secluded space. It was she who spoke first. "Excuse" “Don't be sorry, strangely everything went well” A silly bit of tongue from Giselle made you grin. “It went better than expected, yes.” You nodded. That silence that now characterized your relationship was starting to be too heavy to bear. Giselle came close to your face. “Teach me what having fun at school means, you little bitch,” she began while doing nothing but staring at your lips. "I know a better way to have fun." It was your hand that brought your bodies together and united them. Within seconds, Giselle approached your lips and began to kiss you without fear of being seen. Your tongues and legs intertwined as the kiss became more wet and passionate. You were the first to break away from the kiss, leaving you breathless. “We're going a little too fast” “We're just reversing the lessons a little bit. I kissed you first so you can teach me all that bullshit about how great school is." “And what happens after I teach you everything you need to know about school?” The bell announced the end of the break. “Well, after that I can see if I trust you and if we can go further.” "So kiss, school, sex, and only if these three work can we be together?" A loud laugh escaped your lips and Giselle without answering began to head towards your classroom.
“You know Y/N, maybe my plan could work” “There’s never been a plan that I couldn’t make work” The look you exchanged sealed a long and lasting agreement between the two of you.

Since you agreed to participate in this summer car-beach-trip planned mostly by your best friend, Yizhuo, you've had the opportunity to meet her group of friends. Or, in this case, almost everyone.
Supposedly, including you, the group is made up of eight people: Yizhuo, Cocona, Shuhua, you, Sunwoo, Eric, Kevin and... The Juyeon guy. You met everyone at the meeting point before the trip, except Juyeon. You also don't remember seeing him chat in the chat group that Yizhuo created for the trip called Summerize. He's still a mystery to those eyes of yours.
Even though you tend to lean towards introversion as an ambivert, you were pleasantly surprised by how well you fit in the group. Everyone welcomed you warmly, and you were really looking forward to this much-needed vacation. After finishing your final year of university and graduating, you made a deal with your aunt Jinae, who you currently live with, to take six months off to make up for the last few summers lost to rigorous studies before starting your first job.
Yizhuo thought this was the perfect opportunity to put the car trip plan into practice, and now here you are. Unloading your bags from their cars and setting up their tents on the beach of a neighboring city, which you are visiting for the very first time.
“Y/N! Can you go get the pillows in Sunwoo's car?” As you were assisting your bestfriend with setting up her tent, you could hear Shuhua's cheerful voice resonating in the background. She's Sunwoo's girlfriend and one of Yizhuo's closest friends. “They're stored in a large bag near the backseats!”
“Of course! Ningning, I'll be right back. Is that okay?” You wanted to make sure your bestfriend could manage her beach tent alone, and she nodded in response to you with a soft smile planted on her gorgeous face. And with her approval, you then headed towards Sunwoo's car.
All the doors were already open, which was natural since the cars were used to transport everyone's suitcases and belongings during the journey on the roads. Remembering Shuhua's directions, you casually approached the door on the right side of the backseats, and you bent over to get into the car.
At the exact moment you bent down, the tall, well-sculpted body of a boy who was lying down gets up to leave the vehicle. And suddenly, in a matter of less than one minute, you were face to face with the Juyeon guy.
There were just mere millimeters of distance between your faces while your wide eyes barely blinked, the shock on your body not allowing you to move at all.
You were, indeed, pretty much surprised. His symmetrical features were absolutely divine, his tanned skin appeared to be very well cared for. And the feline orbs that held yours practically paralyzed any possible movement on your part.
Lee Juyeon was beautiful. More than that, Lee Juyeon was hot.
You're not sure how many seconds, or even minutes, have passed since you were staring at him in awe, accidentally blocking his way out of Sunwoo's car. And you only realized you were staring when you heard his voice for the very first time.
“Cat got your tongue? ”
You could feel your face burning, and it was impossible to use an excuse like the heat of the sun at that time. After all, you had arrived at the beach from your trip with them at dinner time.
But oh, if only you could guess what's behind this story that's about to unfold...

🔪 10PM IN SALTCLOVER, 30th October 1996
“AGHHH!” A group of kids scream as a man adorning a ghostface mask whips his around from the corner of a tree. Then they scream again as they see another one behind them.
“Got ‘em.” Juyeon rips the mask of his face, high fiving Changmin as they both chuckle with enlightenment.
“Guys it’s not funny to be wearing those, nevermind scaring the little ones.” You sigh, stood on the front porch with a bowl of candy tucked between your elbow.
“They’re literally middle schoolers, too old to be trick or treating anyway. Besides what? You scared?” Changmin laughed, rubbing the mask in your face before walking inside, Juyeon chuckling shortly behind him.
The crackling of the log fire in the living room created a warm ambience, lighting up the room in an orange light. Duvets and pillows all messily lined across the floor as halloween played on the television on the opposite side of the room.
“And then she screams, the ghost is right behind her. She runs away he catches her and guts her like a fish. It was all a dream though.” Changmin burst into maniacal laughter before tucking himself into the sheets beneath him.
“What if, he caught her, bit off her fingers and became known as the finger ghost.” Juyeon adds with spooky jazz hands, crouched in front us, the both of them kept chuckling and watching your reactions, but nothing.
“You guys, two people we know literally died can you not take this a little bit more seriously?” You asked cocking an eyebrow towards the two boys who stared back blankly.
“The more fear you feel, the more you manifest the danger y/n.” Changmin sighed, grabbing the television remote began flicking the channels for another movie.
Eventually all the horror films that you’d all seen around 3 times over sent all 3 of you to sleep. As you slept soundly with locked doors, closed blinds, a black cat perched upon your windowsill looking out into the moon.
🔪7PM SALTCLOVER, 31st October 1996
♫ BACKSTREET BOYS - EVERYBODY, playing through the stereo system. ♫
Halloween was usually a time of harmless fun, where most normally functioning teenagers dressed in silly costumes and pretended they were in a movie as they trashed somebody else’s shitty house party. Unfortunately with a serial murderer running around it was hard for most of society to have fun, knowing someone in a grim reaper mask could show up any second and take your life from your hands. The boys didn’t seem to let such nuisance bother them as they all showed up to your home, wearing costumes from the classics to movie characters to musicians.
“Guys let’s play ring of fire!” Kevin suggested, suitably clothed in a ruby red leather outfit that resembled Michael Jackson’s from the iconic Thriller music video - seemingly he’d put a lot of effort into crafting the costume, that was much like Kevin. The boys each sprant to the kitchen to table, placing a huge cup in the middle of a circle of cards before each looking at Sangyeon hopefully, who wore a blue jumpsuit, in hand a Michael Myers Mask from the famous horror movie ‘Halloween’
“Oldest first.” Sunwoo, the green power ranger pointed towards the cards waiting for him to pick, a silly smirk painted on his face. “Youngest last.”
“That’s unfair but whatever.” Sangyeon grabbed a card picking up the 9 of hearts and flashing it to the table. “Nine is rhyme, so death.”
“Breath.” Haknyeon, wearing all black with a batman mask, quickly added as they began to go around the table reciting words that rhymed.
“Why’d you pick that? Because you’re breath stinks?” Hyunjae laughed pulling a silly face to the boy who hid behind a chuckle at the remark.
“I was actually thinking about yours.” Haknyeon replied cleverly, sticking his tongue out like a child and then looking at Sunwoo expectantly.
“Meth.” Sunwoo added bluntly.
“What I’ll be doing when I leave this place.” Chanhee, rolled his eyes taking a polite chug of his drink since he couldn’t think of a word that rhymed. He wore all red with glitter on his eyes, his skin glowed off the colour and his neatly arranged side part brought everything together.
The sound of the landline ringing and rattling on the kitchen wall interrupted the circle, Sangyeon sighed and got up as the rest of the boys chatted and carried on with the game.
“Hello Sangyeon. You know …”A mysterious low voice taunted him on the other end of the line, you could almost here the cheshire cat grin across the long eerie pause he left. “I think there’s a snake in the room, I see you’re wearing Michael’s costume quite appropriate for someone who is willing to stab their friends in the back.”
“Who’s this?” Sangyeon furrowed his brows and adjusted his posture as he awaited a reply from the caller.
“Answer the question right to survive, who said this ‘Changmin is so insufferable, I have no idea why we are still friends with him’? Little cut throat to say about a friend right?”
“Oh shutup, prank call another house.” Sangyeon almost let out a cackle at how pathetic the call was in his head, probably just one of their high school friends trying to scare him.
“If you hang up you die. I can see you smiling, how about I cut one into that face of yours smart ass.” The mysterious caller grew angry, spitting down the wire hating the ridicule and how unserious Sangyeon thought he was.
“Okay, listen I said it and what?” Sangyeon smiled, since he knew the answer even if this guy was going to kill him, he was going to be correct anyways.
“Incorrect.” The caller replied with a dubious snicker, the sound of him licking his lips grotesquely sounded crystal clear through the speaker.
“What?” Sangyeon laughed in disbelief, he definitely had said that to a few people before so there was no way on earth it wasn’t him - at least in his mind.
“Sunwoo said it, you agreed remember? Don’t you?” Suddenly, Sangyeon’s memory jogged, despite having repeated Sunwoo’s words he wasn’t the first person to say such a thing.
“Who are you?” Sangyeon demanded to know the caller’s identity, his anger made evident as he gritted his teeth and gripped the halloween mask between his fist damp with fear.
“You didn’t even get to the next round. It was horror movie trivia! Snakes don’t survive in this world and as they always say oldest first!” The caller laughed before the phone was slammed into the receiver by Sangyeon, who then stormed up to the bathroom to cool off.
“What’s wrong with him?” Sunwoo asked, as he looked around at the silence on the table, the boys each staring blankly at each other as if there was something he’d missed whilst he’d went to retrieve a beer.
“Well, I walked past and whoever was on the phone said he’d been talking about Changmin behind his back with Sunwoo.” Jacob replied talking a sip of his drink obliviously, wearing a red polo and green apron with a shitty cardboard prop that read “PIZZA DELIVERY” in his own hand writing.
“Listen Changmin, we didn’t mean it like that-.” Sunwoo tried to excuse himself before Changmin who had dressed as Chucky slammed his palms on the table and walked out, tears in his eyes, into the garden for some air, Hyunjae following closely behind him in his Boy George costume.
“Guys we shouldn’t figh-” Younghoon tried to mediate but ultimately failed, the white garments and halo clearly not doing him any favors in trying to play peacemaker in this little argument.
“Let’s not try solve this right now, quite frankly I can’t be bothered.” Juyeon slammed his beer down on the table next to you, picking up the lasso for his Indiana Jones get up and also walking out on to the patio to observe the night.
“Roger that.” Eric further got up, his blonde hair slicked back and an orange scarf tied around his neck. He made probably the most accurate ‘Fred’ from scooby doo you’d ever seen.
🔪 HEY Y/N, WHAT ARE YOU WEARING?

It made you happy to see everyone dressed up and get together at times like this, however you couldn’t bare to see everyone argue over such childish stuff like he said this? he that? bullshit.
Still the party is lively nethertheless, Juyeon appears from the patio seemingly having brought more beers from the garage in his hands.
Before he even began to speak a bloodcurdling scream bellows through the hallways, the sound of footsteps dashing downstairs and muffled tears getting closer to the kitchen.
“It’s Sangyeon, he’s dead! The front door is wide open, someone came in and killed him.” Chanhee screams, the palms of his hands covered in blood, trembling in fear with tears falling down his face. Juyeon gets up and dashes up the stairs followed by Sunwoo and soon Hyunjae as he hears the commotion.
Kevin calls the police, on the kitchen landline and you run to hug Chanhee and sit up down on one of the chairs as you shush and cradle him.
Soon sirens were arriving and red and blue lights flashed through the windows, who could of done this? It can’t be one of us? Surely.
🔪. 2.AM IN SALTCLOVER, 1st November 1996
News Anchor: “A killer is indeed on the loose, at a local house party where locals teens were celebrating the halloween season, they found their friend in the bathroom murdered. The police have advised no one to leave their homes until further notice.”
♫ SOMEBODYS WATCHING ME - ROCKWELL ♫ playing over the following scene.
“I mean how did he even get into my house? You don’t understand I’m terrified!” You fiddle with the wire of the telephone as the police search through your home. Eric on the other end of the line agrees, tries to calm you down a little bit, but at the same time he’s seemingly also chill about the situation.
You’d all been questioned on the scene, and whilst they tried to catch the killer who could be nearby, any extra evidence collection was postponed until further notice.
“We’re all done here.” A police officer pops his head through the crack of your door, you quickly ended the call, briefly saying bye to Eric. “Are you sure you’ll be okay tonight?” He further asked taking off his hat and giving you a comforting smile.
“Yeah I’ll manage.” You reply with a nod, knowing you were smart enough to keep everything under control on your own.
As the officer and forensic clean up team left, you closed your bedroom door feeling to ill to use the upstairs bathroom with the events of tonight. Before the landline began to rattle and ring on your bedside table again.
“What Eric?” You laugh picking up the phone expecting him to be there on the other end of the line again like he always was, yapping for hours and unable to control his talkative tendencies.
“Hi y/n.. how’s your evening.” A low unrecognizable male voice speaks through the line, you tangle your fingers in the wire and stand to look out of your bedroom window.
“Who’s this?” You ask with an eyebrow raised, a shiver tickling your spine at the sheer depth of his voice.
“How about I get to know you first, what’s your favorite horror movie?” He asked tauntingly, his breath heavy and menacing.
“Hmm.. Probably Friday the 13th why?” You answered the question before rolling your eyes, thinking a man had probably been looking for people to prank call in yellow pages and stumbled across you.
“Well answer me this question, I can see you looking outside but no one is there honey.” He spoke with a sly chuckle after pretty much every word he said and that’s when slight fear started to cross your mind.
“Exactly no one’s there, you’re just trying to scare me liar.” You laugh at him trying to scare you, after all there’s plenty of creeps out there and so many ghostface wannabes. He couldn’t possibly strike twice in one night.
“Oh but don’t you see I am.” With that a firework was set off on your front porch causing your breath to fall short, watching the red lights hit your window causing you to fall back on to your bed clumsily.
“What do you want from me?” You tremble slightly but assert confidence in your voice as he tries to taunt you from the outside.
“Oh I just want you to answer my questions.” You could hear the nature from outside, the trees rustling behind him as he spoke.
“What if I just hang up?” You asked before you heard him begin shouting down the line in a vicious tone about how idiotic you were being.
“Then I’ll gut you like a fish you clever bitch.” He spat clearly violently annoyed you were not taking him seriously, which irked him to the core. Covering your mouth, you realized he was being serious, this is what happened to Sangyeon on the phone? tears beginning to well as he begins to ask his question.
“In the movie Friday the 13th, what happened to the camp in 1958 that made it close?” He asked you a question about the movie you’d seen so many times, you can’t possibly get it wrong.
“Oh,I know this! Jason drowned and everyone thought he was dead..” You bit your lip anxiously, hand shaking, but you knew it ! That’s how Jason got away with it, they all thought he was dead!
“Incorrect. That was in 1957, there was a serial murder at the camp in 1958-” After he spoke those words you slammed the phone down, you should have thought more about your answer but you couldn’t help but think he would have killed you if you’d gotten it right anyway.
You almost wanted to crawl into a hole as the phone line ended, before you heard an immense crash echoing through halls and coming the front door. Footsteps creaking on the staircase, the end was near as the black fabric of his suit trailed the wooden floors.
You grabbed your star light, the metal cage that housed a bulb was the sharpest object in the room before creeping towards your bedroom door, locking it, ready to strike. You weren’t the dumb character in their horror movie, you were the smart one who put up a fight, you will be the one that escapes.
A knock at your door made your heart beat faster before a series of banging, splitting the wood of the door as the killer burst through in the grim reaper mask, gripping a sharp silver dagger.
You threw the lamp with every bit of strength and the killer fell to the ground with the metal wires of the light lodged in his stomach. You ran past him before he got up and chased you down the staircase, grabbing anything on your way and throwing it right at him. You tried to get out the front door but it was bolted shut and ghostface mask grabbed the back of your shirt holding you against him with the knife to your neck. Complying with him by putting your hands up before suddenly breaking free of his grip and pushing his hand away, it was clear he wanted to hear you scream and at least hear you suffer before being able to kill you.
After managing to escape you dash into the kitchen, throwing a chair to break the patio doors which were likely also locked and ran around towards the back gate, also bolted shut and nowhere near budging.
The killer stood at the end of the alleyway next to your house, slowly stepping closer as your back pressed against the back gate. Next to your foot there was a brick that prevented the gate from swinging open in the night, grabbing it you lobbed it straight towards the killer, hitting him square where he was already injured.
“How dare you kill my friends asshole.” You yelled at the top of your lungs before placing both feet on the metal bars of the fence and jumping over with a struggle, barely landing on your feet. You ran onto the street in front of your house and yelled for help, before you saw headlights driving towards you.
The worn down brick red car only belonged to one person you knew, Juyeon who stuck his head out of the window and called your name as you looked at him with fear in your eyes. Panicked with no other option, you ran towards the passenger door swung it open with the last of your strength and got in.
“Darling what happened?” Juyeon looked at you with concern, his eyes then scanning the wind mirrors and rear view as you told him to drive over and over again in pure terror that you wouldn’t make it out in time.
“He got in again, he was asking me about all these horror movies and tried to kill me-“ You rambled on out of breath, your body covered in tiny cuts and bruises from all the falling and colliding with things.
“Well you escaped, that’s the main thing.” The only words Juyeon could find were those, as he exhaled his smoke with the burning cigarette he held outside the car window.
“I guess so, why are you driving up here anyway?” You manage to gather your thoughts and slightly move away from the original problem at hand, since if you thought about it anymore you would force yourself into a heart attack.
“I was actually coming to check on you, I mean your parents being away is not exactly ideal in the current climate. Your phone line has been engaged for the past hour.” Despite this being a believable statement, you still couldn’t understand his suspiciously peaceful composure.
You looked at him observing his tranquil features as he looked back you with a pair of innocent doe eyes, almost a face you believed read “how could little ol’ me do anything wrong?” Perhaps you were overthinking everything.
“What?” He looked at you confused, making sure to do a double take at the face you were pulling. “You don’t think I’m the killer do you?” He added a slight chuckle of disbelief before pointing to himself with his other hand on the wheel.
“No. Obviously not. He was in the house, you’re here.” You shake away your thoughts and turn your attention to the view from out the window, the houses, the cars and anything else you could analyze but him.
“I think you’re suspicious, I can’t lie.” He took another puff of the cigarette and shook his head, the black streak of hair he kept gelled moving towards one side.
“I’m not! The more you say I am the more I’m going to assume.” You started to get a bit frustrated with his assuming accusations and and waved your hands to confirm your point just to end his train of words.
“Yeah well you know I wouldn’t to do that to you.” He sighed, flicking the but out of the window and returning both hands to the wheel with a sad face.
🔪5AM SALTCLOVER, 1st November 1996
🚔 COUNTY SHERRIF’S POLICE DEPARTMENT
“Deputy Lee I swear I’m telling the truth. He was there the phone rang, my patio door is smashed through because I was trying to escape.” You try to plea with the officer questioning you, seemingly not believing your story since the door had been smashed through the wrong way at the back.
“I mean look at her she’s all cut up, I don’t understand why you can’t believe her. It will be her next if you don’t do anything, just record it for your brothers sake” Juyeon chimed in, being a witness and also arriving just in time to save you from the mess.
“Look I’ll record it y/n, because it’s you and I know you wouldn’t do that to me. But if you are lying to me and giving false leads you’ll hear about it. Don’t bring my brother into this again.” Deputy Lee was unfortunately Sangyeon’s brother and having to work on a case that involved the murder of his little brother was clearly taking a toll on him, like the rest of us he looked like he hadn’t slept in weeks.
🔪 LEE JUYEON’S HOUSE, FARMLAND OUTSKIRTS OF SALTCLOVER
“Did he wear the costume?” Hyunjae burst in with the rest of the boys, his first question being rather on brand for his lack of care about the situation since all he knew about murder was the movies. Maybe that was his coping mechanism.
“Did he threaten to slice your guts?” Changmin further asked in the parade of questions, not asking if you were okay first because in his eyes, ‘oh well you look fine.’
“Are you okay?” Younghoon asked, Kevin and Chanhee crouching beside the bed you were sat on and making an effort to hold your hand and smile at you bitter sweetly.
“She’s staying here whilst her house is investigated top to bottom for trace of the killer, plus she’s much safer here.” Juyeon stood beside you, his arms folded across the clean white tank top he was wearing.
Interrupting the chaos of the entourage that had come to visit you, the landline began to call again faintly heard from the down the stairs.
“y/n it’s for you sweetie.” Juyeon’s Mom stepped through the door with a smile, letting you know she was going out for the night with Juyeon’s stepfather to a salsa party.
“Hi sweetheart, it’s not over yet. Which door am I at? Guess right.” The same mysterious voice almost whispered down the line as your hands begin to tremble.
“No… No.. Stop doing this and leave my friends alone.” You yell as the boys watch you from across the corridor, shaking in fear of their own.
“Which door? you stupid bitch.” The killer on the line grows angry, he could be at any door at any time who knows? You had to get this right, you can’t lose anymore friends.
“The patio.” You blurted out thinking of the patterns in horror movies and how he would usually break in the past few weeks.
“Incorrect.” He laughed at your petrified screaming, making a fake buzzer noise across the line to taunt you. With that the bathroom swung open revealing ghostface, you began running into the bedroom and locking the door. Juyeon grabs a pistol from beneath his bed and aims at the door that was thrashing. Hyunjae grabs a chair whilst the others hide behind the bed.
The killer wearing the costume store ghostface bursts in, snatches the chair from Hyunjae and battles with him, eventually crushing him beneath the chair as the others scream. Juyeon guides you out of the room behind him and hides you in the closest closet whilst he stands outside telling the others where to hide.
You could hear Sunwoo above all the screaming seemingly battling with Juyeon to get him to move to his own hiding spot, whereas Juyeon insisted he had the weapon he had to be the one to get rid of the killer.
“Don’t kill me. Please this isn’t a god damn movie and I want to be in the sequel.” You heard a shrill voice from outside the closet, muffling your whimpers you clamp your hand over your mouth, until all falls silent on the upper floor and chaos sounds out downstairs. You burst out of the wardrobe to see that Juyeon is gone and on the floor lies Chanhee still breathing but barely, stab wounds oozing with blood across his body.
“Chanhee get in the wardrobe I’ll be back, I’m so sorry.” Tears of fear falling from your eyes like mini waterfalls, as you helped him into the safe place and closed it gently to not alert anyone of his whereabouts, he can survive this, you just have to be quick.
You ran into the kitchen where you saw Eric, knife in hand trying to fend of the murderer but clearly to scared to even use the weapon, you grabbed one of the tall breakfast bar stools and pinned the killer to the counter with its legs with all the adrenaline you had you were able to move quick enough.
“WHO ARE YOU?! TAKE THE MASK OFF.” You screamed at him as he was stuck, he surrendered and brought his hand to his head, gently tugging off the mask.
There stood Changmin drenched in red smudges of blood, smiling like a maniac and laughing at the scene as if you were nothing to him. These years of friendship were nothing to him, what happened? Why? Too many thoughts crossed your mind upon seeing him of all people behind the mask that you almost dropped the strength of the chair you were holding.
“What happened to you? Have you become a psycho, you’ve watched too many damn movies.” You spat with unreal fits of rage at how a friend could’ve done this to all of you, how could he kill his lifelong best friends? After just a few horror movies…
“Psychos are psychos y/n don’t you dare blame it on the movies.” He used the phone voice changer to taunt you. before pushing the chair and you to the ground and grabbing your arm twisting it behind your back and holding a black handheld gun to your head.
“Where’s Juyeon? Where’d you get that gun?” You panicked as you saw the item in his hand, struggling to release yourself from his grip as Eric stayed cornered in the kitchen not knowing whether to strike or not.
“It’s all part of the game y/n, you should have answered the questions right.” Changmin laughed cackling at how pathetic your fear had become to him, that sweet boy you knew years ago had lost himself to a few movies.
“Don’t touch her.” Another ghostface mask appears, there can’t be two, all along there was two? Who else would have done this to you? The mask is pulled off revealing Hyunjae?… “The deal was you wouldn’t touch her.”
“And the deal is off.” Changmin smiled with a cheerful voice, clearly being the mastermind of the situation between the two of them. Shock overtook your fear and you broke out of Changmin’s grip with a sharp snap.
They began to argue like children before Hyunjae snatched the gun out of Changmin’s grip with a struggle, shooting him to the ground.
“Princess don’t be angry. He made me do it, he told me we would be together and we could be happy just us two.” Hyunjae stepped closer to you wielding the gun in his hands, pointing it closer towards you without a finger on the trigger.
“No Hyunjae, you’re a fucking psychopath. You were apart of this all along.” You couldn’t hold back the tears of betrayal that fell from your eyes, as he took the gun and traced it down your jawline looking at you with bright proud eyes.
In the corner of your eyes, you saw Juyeon quietly sneaking into the room, his torso littered with stab wounds blood seeping through his white tank top, visibly and seriously injured. However in his hand, he held the dagger of the original killer, you stayed quiet, not looking at him and stalling Hyunjae who had you pinned against the counter.
“It’s almost over now darling, just Eric left! be my prize! Just me and you, everyone else is gone! They’re dead! Although you would look gorgeous with your guts loose too.” He looked at you with the same bright eyes he always did, as if nothing he was doing was wrong he was about to turn to kill Eric, however, that’s when he screamed.
Juyeon pushed him to the ground, the dagger slicing straight through his chest, blood seeping through the costume as Hyunjae groaned in the pain he’d been able to deal but not tolerate.
“It’s over for you, asshole. Who’s scary movie is it now?” Juyeon laughed before wincing, the hole in his own stomach bleeding profusely.
“Juyeon lie down.” You grabbed the back of his head as he began to fall to the ground, you had no tears left to cry and now you had to be the strong one. You lied him down and began putting pressure on his wound.
“POLICE!” Deputy Lee walks into to the kitchen, mortified at the scenes of the house, it was over, it was all over. The surviving boys were rushed into hospital to recover, for you and Eric it was time to heal emotionally together, because it was all you had.
🔪6AM SALTCLOVER, 5TH NOVEMBER 1996
And in the end, it was most of the boys that survived their injuries, having lost most of your childhood friends it was rough but after living a life of loss, you had to deal with what you had.
Haknyeon wasn’t doing well, he’d managed to escape the house that night but entered intensive therapy and you’d visit him sometimes but he didn’t seem to trust you guys since the entire thing. Fair enough.
On the bench seated outside the hospital, you held 4 bouquets of flowers, one for Juyeon who saved you that night, One for Sunwoo for being so brave and trying to save his friend, one for Chanhee who needed them more than anyone right now even if he wasn’t awake.
“Eric?” You asked kicking your legs waiting for the visiting hours to open on the hospital ward they were situated.
“Hm?” He hummed, listening to music through his walkman and looking up at you thoughtfully.
“Do you think we could have changed things?” You asked with a sigh, the question that had plagued your mind for weeks.
“Probably. But it’s over now, we’re safe.” He replied and brought you into his touch to pat your head comfortingly as the birds sang melodies of the early morning around you.
It was all over, but unfortunately you’d lost too much.
“I just can’t believe they’re gone.” You burst into tears as Eric brought you in for a hug immediately, trying to hush you back into composure.
That’s if you believe they’re dead, or is it all just a game.

Life had a funny way of placing people in front of you so they could become a part of your life. You always wondered, if you were out on your own and living a very different life than the one you live, just how you would meet the same people who were already present within your young adolescent years. Being the child of a king seemed like the life everyone would want. However, when you peek upon the lives of the common who live normally without an impending threat constantly over their heads, you get jealous. They live with such ease, with no cares in the world. You live with a constant fear of your castle doors being broken down, and someone wreaking havoc on your family. That was until your father hired new royal guards.
They were all relatively tall. Some being your height, while others just towered right over you. Three were on the younger side, four of them being your age, and four being older than you. You grew close to the ones who were your age. You grew close to the younger ones as well. They were a bit more childish, so they were kept more so in the castle as to not provide any unwarranted attention. The four eldest were the main ones that were sent out on missions, coming back beaten, bruised, and bloodied. But finishing their job, nonetheless. The eleven guards took care of business when it needed to be dealt with. There was one that stood out to you, though.
When these guards stepped through the castle doors, your curiosity got the best of you. You usually don’t dabble in your father’s affairs. Too worried you’ll hear something that you don’t want to. However, when these men stepped out of his chambers, you couldn’t help but lock eyes with one. He stopped almost immediately, his cat-like eyes dragging you in as his colleagues moved from around him to head to their respective posts. He gave you a bow and a small smile as his long legs took strides to put him right in front of you.
Holding out his large hand, you gently placed your smaller one in his. This allowed him to bring your hand to his lips where he left the softest brush of a kiss upon your knuckles.
“Your highness,” He said softly.
And that was how you met Juyeon. The royal guard who had stolen your heart, and you his. From that point on, you two were inseparable, having to hide your relationship due to the nature of his job. He was forbidden to be with a member of the royal family, but even he couldn’t lie. You were so captivating. Juyeon had never met anyone like you in his life. The way you move so elegantly and swiftly. How you had a multitude of people in the castle wrapped around your pretty little finger (him included). Juyeon was so in love with you that it scared him. Keeping your relationship a secret was hard for the boy. Especially considering he was now to a point where he’d leave with the older guards for missions, which meant leaving your safety in the hands of the three youngest who he knew had massive crushes on you (Sunwoo, especially). Juyeon wanted you for himself. He didn’t like to share, especially not with his members. And you were too special to him, too precious for your safety to be left in the hands of anyone but himself. Of course his members weren’t idiots. In fact, the younger ones were the first to find out about the two of you and spread it to the rest of the crew. This led to Juyeon getting a stern talking to from the oldest, Sangyeon, explaining to him the dangers of falling for a member of the royal family and the harm it could put him in if anyone besides them found out. Juyeon didn’t care, and quite frankly, neither did you.
That’s how two of the older members, Hyunjae and Jacob, found you two in your room with nothing but the royal cotton sheets covering your bodies that were wrapped around each other.
“Seriously?!” Hyunjae said incredulously. “What is wrong with the two of you?”
Jacob walked towards the side of the bed Juyeon lay on as he grabbed his uniform, tossing it to the boy.
“Change! Before Sangyeon realizes you’ve left your post outside the bedroom door.” Jacob said, emphasizing the “outside”.
Juyeon chuckled, rolling over just slightly to softly peck your lips as he sat up, leaving enough slack in the sheets so you could cover yourself.
“I’m not changing in front of you guys.” Juyeon gestured to the two boys.
Hyunjae scoffed. “But you’ll change in front of,”
“Got it! You’ve got three minutes.” Jacob cut off the boy as he pushed him to the door.
He cracked it slightly, checking to see if anyone was outside, making you all hold your breath. He turned to you all, nodding slightly as he and Hyunjae exited before repeating. “Three minutes, Juyeon.”
You couldn’t help but chuckle. Despite knowing the danger Juyeon was putting himself in, you knew they would never tell Juyeon to stop seeing you. Especially since you made him the happiest he’s ever been since he became a royal guard. At least that’s what Hyunjae had told you.
Juyeon waited for the door to close completely before grabbing his boxers from the floor. Sliding them over his legs to cover his bare bottom half, he stood up, turning around to stare at you.
“What?” You said softly.
He just shook his head with a shrug. “You’re just so beautiful.”
Rolling your eyes, knowing how completely ravaged you look because of him, you just nod. “Yeah, you definitely need to get back to your post.”
Juyeon laughed, his hair bouncing with every movement of his head. You grabbed the night clothes the tall man had rid you of when he snuck into your room, slipping them on as you got up to help Juyeon with his uniform. His pants and boots went on without any struggle, but getting his top fastened down enough to cover the marks you left on him seemed to be a bit more of a challenge. Feeling a little guilty, knowing he could get in trouble, you mumbled out an apology.
“I guess I got carried away.” You spoke sheepishly.
He looked at you through the floor length mirror, having finally found a way to cover everything as he smiled.
“Don’t be. They let me know that I’m doing my job correctly.”
Now that was corny, but you couldn’t deny the way a heat creeped up your neck at his words.
As the last button on his top got fastened, a knock sounded on the door.
“Sangyeon is looking for you.” Jacob’s muffled voice said.
Juyeon let out a sigh as he walked over to you, grabbing your hand to bring to his lips just like he did the first day he met you.
“I love you. I’ll see you in the morning after our briefing with your father.”
You could only nod, too captivated by his voice to truly understand what was coming out. Juyeon kissed your forehead this time before moving to the door, throwing a wink to you from over his shoulder as he got out just in time. You laid your ear to the door as you could hear a pair of heavy-footed boots make their way to your door.
“Please tell me you weren’t doing what I think you were?” You heard Sangyeon ask him.
Juyeon replied. “I was just checking in. Making sure everything was okay. I swear.”
From the other side of the door, Sangyeon gave the younger boy a look. “You’re playing with fire Juyeon.”
Juyeon could only nod as Sangyeon walked back to his post, finishing his rounds of checking on each guard. You sighed, allowing your feet to drag you to the now empty king bed that felt too big for one person.
You fell asleep easier than you had expected, waking to a knock at your door. You groaned slightly as the door opened, your right hand coming in to greet you.
“Good morning, your highness. You must get dressed immediately. Your father has summoned everyone to the ballroom for a meeting. He says it’s urgent.” The girl tells you.
You nod, thanking the girl softly as she lays your clothes out on your bed. She exits, leaving you to get dressed as you frown. A meeting that involved everyone in the castle was never a good thing, and suddenly a feeling of nausea passed over you. Did someone find out about you and Juyeon? Is that what this was about? Your thoughts made you dress quickly as you fixed your hair, rushing to the bathroom to brush your teeth. You opened your bedroom door, meeting the back of a head belonging to a rather tall man. You felt yourself relax as you lifted your hand to tap his shoulder before they turned. Your hand retracted immediately as your eyes widened slightly.
“Younghoon, what are you doing over here?” You asked.
The older members watched over the more senior members of the family so seeing one of them posted outside your door worried you to no end.
“I’m just here to escort you to your parents' chambers. The queen and your sister are waiting for you.” Younghoon told you.
You nodded, following the boy through the long corridor. He stopped in front of the door, looking around first before opening it. You furrowed your eyebrows, walking in the room as he closed the door behind you. Your mother looked at you, giving you a small smile.
“Mother, what is happening?” You asked quietly.
She sighed. “Your father is briefing the guards. It’s important that we wait here.”
You narrowed your eyes. “Why was Younghoon posted outside my door? He only does that if there is impending danger.”
Your mother made your sister comfortable on the bed as she stood up. She gently grabbed your arm, pulling you off to the side as she spoke in a hushed tone.
“There’s been some talk,” She starts.
“Talk?”
“They think someone is after your father and I.”
You swallowed. “Which means they’ll also come for her and I?”
You raised a hand to point between yourself and your sister. The action made your mother nod as a knock was put to the door. You jumped slightly as someone spoke.
“Your majesty,” Sangyeon’s voice said just loud enough to make it through the door. “You can come out now.”
You opened the door, coming face to face with the senior guard who gave you a small smile.
“Your highness,” He said with a bow. “The King is looking for you.”
You nodded, thanking the older boy as you gave your mother a kiss on the cheek. You quickly left the room, walking down the hallway towards the ballroom. You noticed Sunwoo and Eric, the two youngest guards, conversing outside the door. They both were having a very hushed, secretive conversation as you walked up to them. You got your hand onto the gold gilded handle of the ballroom door before Eric stopped you.
“Your highness, you can’t go in yet.” The youngest guard said.
“Why?”
“The King is briefing the guards.”
You rolled your eyes. “So why aren’t you two in there?”
Sunwoo spoke this time. “They are being sent on a mission.”
You turned to the boy. “What mission?”
Sunwoo and Eric turned to look at each other, almost as if to silently ask the other if they should tell you. Eric shoved the boy slightly, making Sunwoo whine before he spoke.
“There’s a threat to the kingdom. To your parents and you and your sister. We know the source of the threat and your father is sending the more senior guards out to neutralize the situation.” Sunwoo said.
You nodded, letting out a calm breath. “So, no Juyeon. He’s not going?”
This time Sunwoo was quick to shove Eric, knowing how you got about Juyeon going on missions.
“Uh, well…not exactly.”
Before you could reply the door opened. Your father looked between you and the younger guards before speaking to them.
“Shouldn’t you be at your posts?” He asked as the two younger boys nodded quickly, heading off to their respective posts.
He pulled you into the ballroom where the rest of the guards, more specifically your guard, were gathered around. Juyeon lifted his head, his hair falling into his eyes as he watched your father walk you into the ballroom.
“Gentleman, this mission is important. You need to take great caution in your posts and each move you make. You have to remember who you’re out there protecting. Most importantly, remember that you are out there protecting each other. This threat is serious, and I do not expect you back until it’s completely dissolved,”
You started to drown out your father’s words as you made eye contact with Juyeon. He gave you a sad smile as you looked over who all was with him. Juyeon, Hyunjae, Jacob, Changmin, and Kevin. You knew Sangyeon would be leading the troops and Younghoon would be up there as well. The other older guard, Chanhee, never went on missions unless absolutely needed. Your sister had taken a liking to him the moment they were hired so he stayed to help your mother. You knew Juyeon never went on missions either for the same reason, in fact he, Changmin, or Kevin rarely went away. The severity of the situation was beginning to set in as you excused yourself, feeling a set of eyes on you as you left the room.
You felt sick knowing that Juyeon would be sent out on a mission that clearly was more dangerous than people were letting on about. You headed for the green house, dismissing any staff that was in the building to care for the flowers as you took in deep breaths, trying to steady your rapidly beating heart. Soft footsteps built up behind you as you closed your eyes, speaking just as softly.
“Juyeon, you’re going to get hurt.”
Large hands wrapped around your waist, pulling you close enough so he could place a soft kiss on your temple.
“Let’s not think about that.” He whispered.
You scoffed, turning yourself around. “How can I not? My father is sending you out with the senior guards to neutralize a threat and you want me to not think about it?”
Juyeon sighed. “I couldn’t tell him no. I would’ve been dismissed.”
“At least then you’d still have your life.” You countered, pushing away from him.
“Then what do you want me to do,” Juyeon says, frustration laced through his words. “You tell me what you want me to do! This is my job. We both knew something like this would arise. Let’s not act surprised. I’m a royal guard, and if I get sent on a mission by order then that’s what I have to do. I could lose everything if I say no.”
Tears built up in your eyes as you raised your voice with the tall guard. “And what about me? What if I lose you?”
Juyeon’s face softened at your words, the frustration melting away.
“Baby,” He spoke, barely above a whisper, as he stepped towards you. “You’re never going to lose me, ever. I’m yours. I’m always going to gravitate towards you no matter how far apart we are.”
His hands cupped your face, forcing you to look at him as his thumbs gently wiped at the tears staining your skin.
“Don’t ever think I’m not going to come back to you. I’m going to be the first one back so I can see you, touch you, hold you, kiss you,” Juyeon pauses, placing a tender kiss to your lips. “I’m not leaving you. Like a moth to a flame.”
You could only nod, mind still reeling with the idea of Juyeon never coming back from his mission. Despite your father having no knowledge of your relationship with one of his best royal guards, you were positive you’d never be able to forgive him if something happened to Juyeon. The boy watched you intently, seeing the gears in your head turning at capacity.
“What are you thinking about?” He asked.
Finally pulling yourself from your thoughts, you spoke. “When do you leave?”
“Before sundown.”
With a nod of your head, you pulled both his hands from your face, squeezing them gently. “Please, don’t do anything stupid. Listen to Sangyeon. And if it gets too heavy, fall back.”
“Love, those weren’t the king's orders.” The guard answered.
You scoffed, with a roll of your eyes. “No, they’re mine. And if you love me, you’ll follow them.”
This time you watched Juyeon intently as a small smile made its way to his face. “Of course I will. Because I do love you.”
“I love you, too.”
You and Juyeon pulled apart, but not before leaving a last kiss to each other’s lips. You knew the boy had to pack for the journey, and he would get in trouble if he wasn’t with the rest of the squad. Juyeon kept a hold on your hand as he backed away.
“I’m going to come back.” He tells you.
You smiled. “Promise?”
A nod and smile was thrown back to you. “With all my heart.”
You watched the boy exit the greenhouse as you mentally prepared yourself for the coming days that were sure to be Juyeon-less. You watched from your bedroom balcony as your father sent the guards off into the sunset, not having the stomach to stand with your mother and sister as he sent the men into what might be their early deaths. Juyeon watched you the entire time, giving you a small smile and mouthing the same promise he made just moments ago in the greenhouse.
I’m going to come back.
His words echoed in your head over and over again, pushing you into a sleepless night.
The morning sun peeked through your blinds too quickly for your liking considering you were finally starting to fall asleep. You let out a yawn, pulling yourself from your bed as you heard a faint knock.
When you pull the door open, you came face to face with your mother.
“Mother,” You say, startled by her presence so early in the morning. “Is everything okay?”
She nodded. “I just wanted to check in on you. You seemed upset about something yesterday.”
If only you knew.
“I’m fine. Just wasn’t feeling too well,” You lied. “Have we heard anything from the guards?”
Your mother chuckled. “Sweetheart, it’s too early to hear anything. If anything, the guards will just be getting to their destination. We’re sending Sunwoo out later as our line of communication.”
You let out a breath, hoping for a better answer. “Well, will you let me know if you hear anything?”
Your mother nods. “Of course, my dear. You know, if I didn’t know any better, I’d say you have a thing for one of those guards.”
You could only chuckle nervously as your mother sauntered off, her dress making a ‘swooshing’ sound across the floor of the hallway. You let out the breath you were holding as you leaned up against the large wood door of your bedroom. You closed your eyes, bringing both hands to your head to rub at your temples as someone spoke.
“Any messages you want me to relay to the squad?” Sunwoo’s voice made you jump.
One of your hands was now clutching your chest, right around your heart.
“Dammit, Sunwoo. Announce yourself, please.”
Sunwoo chuckled. “I did. You were in your own world.”
A blush ran up your face as you shoved him, heading towards the front of the castle grounds to see him off. The younger boy caught his footing, catching up to you rather quickly as you spoke again.
“Please, try to keep an eye on Juyeon.” You told him.
Sunwoo pushed open the front doors of the castle, letting in an immense amount of sunlight that casted shadows all over the walls. You walked him to his horse that was waiting for him as he looked at you.
“I’m only a line of communication. I’m not staying.”
You huffed. “Then, tell him…tell him I love him. Please?”
Sunwoo could only smile as he nodded, pulling himself onto the black steed. You always admired Sunwoo’s horse. His being the fastest, and prettiest, made him perfect as a communicator.
Sunwoo pulled the reins slightly, making the horse turn around. His lack of answer made you antsy as you watched him trot off.
“Sunwoo!” You yelled out.
“I’ll tell him!”
The days dragged on after Sunwoo’s departure. You weren’t sure how far out the squad was but considering you were now on day two of no Sunwoo, you kind of figured they were pretty far. The castle was on high alert with the threat and the best guards being out to handle the situation. Juyeon’s words continued to rattle your brain as they were beginning to become the only reason to get you through each day. You checked the front of the castle grounds religiously, even venturing out farther than allowed, making your right hand drag you back onto the grounds.
“Your highness, we mustn’t go past the gates. It's too dangerous.” She said softly, looping her arm through yours to walk you back towards the castle. “Don’t worry so much. He’ll be back.”
Your head snapped towards her as you stopped the both of you. “What?”
She giggled. “You aren’t exactly masters at hiding the way you look at each other.”
You let out a groan, bringing your hand to your head. “Jesus, does everyone in this castle know about us?”
She could only laugh. “Not everyone. Obviously his fellow guards found out, but those faded marks on your collarbone,” Her slim finger was pointed towards your upper chest, making you unravel your arm from her as you pulled your garments closer to your neck. “They give it away. Coupled with the fact that he’s usually sporting the same marks.”
You had never been so embarrassed in your life.
“And here I was thinking we were hiding them.”
“Don’t worry your highness. I won’t tell anyone. Juyeon makes you happy. That’s all that matters to me.” She told you.
You smiled at her, relooping your arms. “Okay then. What about you? Anyone interesting in your life?”
She stopped, smiling at the grass beneath her feet as she looked off in the distance. You couldn’t help the smile that tugged at your lips from her reaction to your question. She opened her mouth to speak before gasping, pointing off in the direction you just came from. Whipping around, you heard galloping that was getting continuously louder. You felt a tug as your right hand began to pull you.
“Wait,” You told her.
“Your highness, we don’t know who it is!” She replied quickly.
You pull from her grasp as the horse, Sunwoo’s horse, is now in focus. You let out a sigh of relief, happy to finally have some sort of news before seeing the state of the horse and the boy on it. Both were cut up and bleeding with Sunwoo looking like he might all but fall off the horse if it wasn’t for someone tying him on him. You stopped the horse, reaching up for Sunwoo.
“My sword,” He wheezed out. “Cut the ropes.”
You turned to your right hand. “Go get help!”
She nodded as you grabbed the sword that was strapped to his side, using the blade to cut the ropes on both sides, cutting your hand in the process. You try to (gently) pull Sunwoo from his horse, causing the boy to topple off onto the grass. He lets out a loud scream of pain as you kneel next to him.
“Sunwoo, what happened? Who did this?” Your mind was racing with questions.
Sunwoo could barely keep his eyes open, the pain being too much for the boy. “Ambushed. Barely made it out.”
“What happened with everyone else? What happened with Juyeon?”
You were pulled from the boy’s side as your father and Eric tended to him. Your mother pulled you up, keeping your sister and New at a safe distance. More men helped out with Sunwoo as New left your sister with you and your mother to tend to the hurt horse. Your father charged past, leading the way for Sunwoo to be carried back into the castle.
“Is he going to be okay?” You asked your mother.
“I’m not sure.” The queen said.
The castle was quiet as Sunwoo got worked on. All that could be heard were his cries of pain that brought tears to your eyes. They kept around the clock care for him for the next 24 hours as you kept yourself locked in your room. You had so many questions. Who did this? He was just a kid, so why would they hurt him? More importantly, what happened to the rest of them? What happened to Juyeon?
You watched the sun set on another day, now having no line of communication to give you any sort of relief. You felt your eyelids grow heavy as someone knocked on the thick wood doors of your chambers. Jumping slightly, you moved slowly towards the door, not wanting to hear anymore news about anything tonight.
“Eric,” You said surprised. “What are you doing over here?”
Eric spoke in a hushed town. “I had to come this late, so you wouldn’t get caught. Sunwoo is asking for you.”
You nodded, now being fully awake as you let the boy lead you to Sunwoo’s location. He stopped in front of the double doors of an abandoned room where your family basically stored stuff away that was used for balls. He pushed the door open slowly to contain any noises that might come from the old wood. Eric looked around before nodding at you, putting a hand on your lower back to push you into the room. He closed the door behind you to stay posted outside as you let your eyes adjust to the dimly lit room. The only light was coming from the oil lamps lit throughout the room. Sunwoo laid on a cot in the back of the room, his bare torso all wrapped in bandages that were starting to stain from his blood.
Making your way over to the boy, you knelt next to his head as you whispered into the dark room. “Sunwoo,”
The boy’s eyes opened slightly as he squinted before slowly turning his head. He hissed slightly from his own movement as he looked at you. His hair was sticking to his face, sweat lining his entire body. He was starting to come down with a fever.
“Your highness,” He breathed out, just barely pulling sound out of his mouth with his words. You leaned in. “Juyeon,”
You felt your blood run cold. “What? What happened to Juyeon? Is he okay?”
The boy swallowed. “As far as I know, but this situation is more serious than we previously anticipated.”
You stayed quiet, prompting the boy to continue.
“You,” His stomach contracted, making him wince as he moved just slightly. “You need to tell your father.”
A confused look crossed your face before you realized what he was getting at. “Sunwoo, I can’t.”
He gingerly shook his head. “You have to.”
“He could lose everything, Sunwoo.”
This time he snapped his head in your direction, ignoring the pain in a means to get his point across. “And yet you two still are together. If you really care about him, you’ll tell your father.”
His words stung, making you turn from him. “How can you say that? You know how much I care about Juyeon.”
“Then tell him. They are prying information from us out there.” Sunwoo countered.
“What do you mean?”
Sunwoo sighed, taking a deep breath. “They weren’t looking to kill us when I got there. They were looking to kidnap us. Torture us as a way to get information about the king, about you.”
You froze. “Me? Why me?”
Before he could answer, you heard shouting. Standing up quickly, you ran to the door opening it fully to an empty hallway. Eric was nowhere to be found as you closed the door, hearing footsteps rounding the corner. Your right hand came full speed right in front of you, stopping just before crashing into you. You grunted softly as she spoke.
“Your highness, the guards, they’re back!” She said quickly.
Your eyes widened as you took off in the opposite direction from which she came from. Heading towards the front of the castle, you noticed your father and mother already out there. Other staff members surrounded the area, watching your father debrief the guards as you let your legs carry you as fast as they could.
When you got to the front door, you stopped. Your heart beating out of your chest as you pushed the doors open. You started the trek down the stairs before stopping. Your father and mother both turned to you, Sangyeon standing in front of both of them. Your mother made her way to you, walking quickly to your side. It was at this moment, you realized that only Sangyeon and Changmin were back. Both badly beaten and covered in blood that wasn’t their own.
“Sweetheart, you should go back inside.” She said quickly.
Walking past her, you headed straight for Sangyeon who was in deep conversation with your father. He eyed you as you got closer to him, watching your every move.
“Your highness,” He started as you interrupted him.
“Where is he?”
Your father looked between the two of you. “Where is who?”
Sangyeon shook his head. “Don’t do this right now.”
“What are you two talking about?”
This time you shook your head. “No, let’s do this right now. What happened? Where is he?”
Sangyeon looked down at his boots before speaking. “He and the others were taken hostage. Changmin and I, we barely escaped.”
“You left them,” You said softly.
“No.” Sangyeon replied. “No, that’s not true. I needed more help, that’s why I came back. That’s why we came back.
He points between himself and Changmin as he turns back to your father. Not bothering to listen, you walked up to Changmin. He kept his head down as you whispered to him.
“Do you know where they are being kept?” You asked him quietly.
Changmin lifted his head, cuts on his lip and nose becoming visible to you. He nods slowly.
You grab his arm, pulling him towards the castle. “Let’s go.”
Your mother stopped you. “What are you doing?”
“Helping.” You said, not bothering to stop.
Changmin kept in stride with your fast steps as you pulled him into the castle, dragging him down the hallway towards Sunwoo’s room. Sunwoo turned his head as the door opened, trying to lift himself as he immediately recognized the person behind you.
“Hyung,” Sunwoo said. “You’re alive!”
Changmin pushed past you, kneeling before the younger boy as he tended to him. You peered through a partially covered window, seeing your father still talking with Sangyeon. Letting Changmin talk with Sunwoo, you moved around the room, finding a sword and riding gear for yourself. This caught both the boys' attention as Changmin spoke.
“What are you thinking about doing?” Changmin asked softly.
“You’re taking me to Juyeon.”
Changmin stood, looking at you like you were crazy. He watched you move around, gathering everything you needed as he tried to find the right words.
“Your h-highness,” He stammered out. “I really don’t think-,”
“I don’t care what you think! You are the only one that isn’t beaten or bruised to a bloody pulp. Sangyeon sure as hell isn’t going to take me, and my father will never let me go. I’m making this decision on my own. Besides, we need to get the others back.” You stopped, momentarily wondering whether you and Changmin would be enough.
You had no idea what kind of state the others would be in, especially with Sunwoo’s condition and the way Sangyeon and Changmin looked now.
As if reading your mind, Changmin took a step towards you, leaving Sunwoo’s side. “Your highness, there’s no way we can get through. Not two of us.”
You nodded at words, agreeing immediately. “Then we take help.”
Changmin looked on, confused as you headed towards the door. Quickly turning to Sunwoo, he whispered something to him as he jogged after you. The castle was quiet, everyone still in shock of only two of the royal guards returning as they stood outside. You took off towards your sister’s room, Changmin hot on your trail. Your footsteps echoed off the walls, alerting the boy posted outside your sister’s door. He stood before recognizing the boy behind you.
“Q,” Chanhee started, calling out to the boy with a nickname. “You’re back?”
Changmin stopped as did you. “You need to come with us.”
Chanhee looked confused, as you spoke this time. “We need to get the others. My father is going to take his time with Sangyeon, and that’s exactly what the others don’t have. We need all the help we can get.”
The boy cocked his head slightly, knowing the trouble he could get into if he disobeyed the King’s orders. Chanhee sighed, looking back at the doors he was in front of. He had promised your little sister he’d accompany her to breakfast in the morning. Clearly, that wasn’t going to happen.
“What do you need me to do?” Chanhee asked, stepping forward.
As you three hatched out a game plan, the youngest guard rounded the corner. The first thing Eric noticed was the gear you had on.
“What’s going on?” Eric asked.
“We’re going to get the others! Are you in?” You asked very straightforwardly.
Eric thought about it for a split second before giving you a nod of his head. “Let’s take the back gate, though. They’ve moved all the horses back there.”
You all nodded, heading towards the back exit of the castle by the greenhouse. As you quickly and quietly walked down the corridor, you noticed a figure by the door.
“Sunwoo, why are you out of bed?” Changmin asked.
The boy was using the wall to hold himself up as he dragged himself across the wall towards you. He pulled at your belt, unsheathing your sword from its case.
“Take mine.” He said softly, tucking the larger blade into your case with your help.
He pushed his full body weight into the wall, slowly sliding down it as he was now sitting on the floor. You and Changmin helped steady him before he reached up to grasp both of your shoulders and Changmin’s.
“Bring them back. Alive.” He said, barely above a whisper.
Changmin looked from Sunwoo to you as you nodded.
“As long as you stay alive to see them when we get back.” You countered.
A small, sly smile made its way to Sunwoo’s face as he nodded. “I’ll try my best, your highness.”
He let his arms drop as someone yelled. “Hey!”
You called out to Eric and Chanhee as the four of you took off out the doors. Just like Eric had said, four steeds stood by the greenhouse, still saddled up. You all climbed onto a horse, catching a glimpse of the person that yelled.
“Sangyeon,” You whispered to yourself as Changmin got his horse untied.
“Come on! This way!” Changmin yelled.
The hooves of the four horses pounded the ground as Sangyeon ran out of the castle.
“Your highness! Y/N!” Sangyeon screamed.
He continued to yell, but the sound became background noise as you let Changmin lead the way. He went full steam ahead to get out of the castle grounds quickly, only pulling back on the speed when he felt as though you were all in the clear. As you rode through the woods, the cool air whipped through your hair. It was the only thing calming you as you let the decisions you just made wash over you. Feeling an impending wave of anxiety creep up, you started to get nervous.
“Let’s slow up right here.” Changmin said softly.
You were the last person to stop, riding forwards just slightly as Changmin addressed you guys.
“We needed to be prepared. What you guys are about to see, it’s gruesome.”
You all nodded. Changmin continued to explain everything as you tried to keep up with what he was saying. His words started to all blur together as your mind started to wander.
The forest you were in started to change around you, the men in front of you disappearing as you closed your eyes to take in a breath.
“Aren’t you supposed to be meeting the guests?” A familiar voice says from behind you.
You turn quickly, smiling almost immediately. “Juyeon!”
He gives you a smile as you run to him, letting your full body weight crash into the boy. Juyeon grunts, letting his arms encircle your waist. He leans down to place a gentle kiss on your lips, making you hum.
You couldn’t believe he was in front of you right now. You nudge your nose against his, letting your forehead lean into him as he speaks.
“Someone is excited to see me!” A chuckle escaped his lips as he spoke.
You looked up at him. “You’re okay,”
“Yeah, I’m okay. Why wouldn’t I be?” Juyeon asked.
You furrowed your eyebrows at his question. “Well, the threat to the kingdom. You had to neutralize it.”
The guard looked down at you confused. “What threat? No one has threatened the kingdom since we’ve arrived to protect you and your family. Are you sure you are okay?”
Feeling something cool and wet against your skin, you look down. Your hands that were set on each side of his lower chest were now covered in blood. Eyes widening in horror, you jumped back from the boy.
“What’s wrong?” Juyeon asks.
Too scared to speak, you continue to back away from Juyeon.
“Your highness, your highness…”
“Your highness? Your highness!”
You jumped as a pair of hands grabbed a hold of you. You look around you, realizing that you’re still in the forest. You look down at the hands holding you before coming face to face with Changmin. He’s looking at you with grave concern as you speak.
“What happened?”
Changmin looks at the guys behind him before turning back to you. “Your highness, I was explaining what the battlefield we’re about to cross looks like. I had asked you a question, but you kind of went mute on us. Almost like you were trapped in a daze. We couldn’t get you out of it.”
You nodded, trying to find the right words before Eric spoke. “Do you guys hear that?”
You all silenced yourselves, letting the sounds of the rustling leaves make their way into your ears.
“I don’t hear anything.” Chanhee said.
“No, no. Listen. Just listen.” Eric replied.
That’s when you all heard it. The faint sound of pounding? No, galloping.
Changmin pushed himself back, so he was fully sitting on his horse as he whispered. “Everyone hide, now!”
You all split into four different directions as the galloping started to get closer. Someone had followed you, and you had a pretty decent idea of who it was.
“Your highness,” Sangyeon called out. “Changmin!”
You all stayed quiet, the darkness, coupled with the full, large trees helped to hide you.
“I know you guys are out there. You need to come with me back to the castle, now! King’s orders.” Sangyeon said.
The only sound he could make out was the loud rustling of leaves from the strong gusts of wind.
Sangyeon sighed. “Y/N, come on. You took battle training when you were younger, but you know you don’t stand a chance against these enemies.”
His words struck a nerve in you. You knew he was right, but you didn’t want to admit that. You wanted to prove him wrong.
“I’m not heading back to the castle without Juyeon or the others.”
Sangyeon’s head moved in the direction your voice came from as he willed his horse to trot slowly towards the sound. “We’re going to get the others, but you have to give us time.”
You shook your head. “They don’t have time, Sangyeon.”
This time, you pulled yourself out of the thick brush. Pulling your horse behind you. Sangyeon let out a sigh of relief, eyeing you up and down to make sure you weren’t hurt.
He hopped down from his horse and held out his hand. “Come on. Let me take you back home.”
You shook your head. Sangyeon was starting to get frustrated by your stubbornness. He really needed to get you back to the castle, not just you but everyone else. He was the leader, and if he failed, the King would have his head. You, of all people, knew that.
Sangyeon let his hand drop, looking down at his dirty boots as he took in a breath. “Your highness,”
“I’m not going back with you.”
“You have too!” He yelled.
Sangyeon was never someone to raise his voice, so to say you were surprised was an understatement. He took your silence as an opportunity to calm himself before speaking again.
“Your highness, I can get in a lot of trouble if you don’t come back to the castle with me. All of us can.” He said loudly, knowing the others were just as close by as you were.
You shrugged. “Then it looks like you aren’t going back.”
Sangyeon closed his eyes, bringing his gloved hand up to pinch the bridge of his nose. “Why are you being so stubborn?”
“Why are you being so adamant?”
“Because I made a promise.” Sangyeon said.
Promise? What promise?
“A promise to who? My father? If that’s the case, it’s broken.” You told him.
He shook his head. “A promise to Juyeon.”
He let his head drop as he closed his eyes. “When we got separated, he made me swear to take care of you, keep you safe. Y/N, he sacrificed himself for us. For Changmin and I. The two of us, we had the chance to leave, and we were going to give it up to help the others.”
“But Juyeon didn’t let you.” You finished for him.
Sangyeon could only nod. It made sense. Juyeon was nothing if not noble. He was willing to die for you and his brothers. You closed your eyes, smiling slightly. Even when he wasn’t around he was finding ways to keep you out of harm's way.
“I have to keep you safe.”
You nodded, calling out to the rest of the guys.
Eric peeked out from your left, as Changmin and Chanhee came from the other side of the pathway. Sangyeon looked at the three boys before chuckling slightly.
You took a step towards Sangyeon, your hand tightening on the reins of your horse as you spoke. “I still can’t go back with you.”
Sangyeon went to protest before you interrupted him. “Sangyeon, come with us. You are the best in hand to hand combat.”
The guards with you nodded enthusiastically, trying to convince their leader to join them, knowing his strength would be greatly appreciated.
Sangyeon shook his head. “I can’t, and you know that. I need to keep you safe. I need to get you back to the castle.”
“You really want to keep me safe and keep your promise to Juyeon, then you’ll come with us. You never break promises, and you know you won’t go back to the castle if I’m not with you. My father would have your head.”
Sangyeon let out a frustrated sigh as he looked at the hopeful faces of his members. He turned back to you as you cocked an eyebrow at him, crossing your arms over his chest. If the situation wasn’t so dire, Sangyeon wouldn’t help but laugh at the way you look. He was convinced that you had never looked more like your father. You were going to make a great ruler, that’s for sure.
“Alright look, if I come, and that’s a big if, you need to listen to me. All of you.” Sangyeon said, moving his body to point at every one of you. “We need to stick together, and not lose our heads. These guys, they are tough. Now we’ve taken out a majority of them, but the few that are left have the guys locked away in their own bunker. Once we locate it, we need to work specifically on freeing the guys, not fighting. Understood?”
Everyone nodded as Sangyeon helped you onto your horse, handing you reins he had slipped from your hand. As you got comfortable, he spoke again.
“Changmin, lead the way.” The older boy said as Changmin hopped onto his horse. The other two boys sprung into action, following along as you guys picked back up. Sangyeon kept an eye out, looking around carefully as you made your way out of the forest and through the plethora of bodies.
You never doubted your father when it came to picking people who could keep the kingdom safe, and now you had to make sure to thank him if you ever saw him again. The wasteland of death that you were walking through made you appreciate sitting in the castle all day long and being roped into stupid balls and useless meetings. The scene in front of you was nothing short of something out of a horror movie. Sangyeon had taken the lead off Changmin and was keeping you guys at a steady pace, looking over the bodies on the ground.
“Watch out for supplies or clues. Anything that can help us find out why they would take them.” Sangyeon said quietly.
You rode in the middle of the pack, Changmin off to your side. He was oddly quiet as you grabbed his attention.
“Q,” The nickname made him turn to you. “Are you okay?”
Changmin gave you a sad smile. “It wasn’t supposed to go this way. No one was supposed to get abducted. Sunwoo wasn’t going to get hurt.”
Shaking your head, you reached out to pat his shoulder gently. “You can’t blame yourself. You guys are trained for all sorts of situations, but something will always happen that rattles you. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from being in the royal family, it’s to expect the unexpected.”
“You can say that again.” Chanhee said from behind the two of you.
You both looked back at him. “Your mother tells me all the time that she wakes up anticipating something crazy to happen.”
You smiled at his comment that made the other men with you laugh softly. The conversation flowed a bit more after that. Different battle stories being brought up to pass the time. Eric brought up one of Sangyeon’s most impressive feats that he loved to exaggerate.
“I didn’t slay that bear by myself, Eric.” Sangyeon said with a shake of his head.
Eric scoffed. “Come on, hyung. You’re too humble. Sure, Younghoon and Hyunjae were there, but most of the damage was at the hands of your blade.”
You let out a breathless laugh before pointing. “Look.”
Sangyeon brought his head back to the front as he stopped his horse, prompting the other four of you to stop as well. Sangyeon climbed off of his horse as he took a few steps forward.
“That’s it.” Changmin said quietly, almost as if he was afraid someone would hear him.
The building was old and rundown. You were surprised it hadn’t caved in yet, but you weren’t holding your breath.
Sangyeon turned to you guys as he spoke. “We need to hatch a plan. By now, they’ve probably split them into different rooms. This place is bigger than you think so I’ll split off by myself. Eric and Chanhee you two split up together, and Changmin you know to keep Y/N in your sights.”
Everyone nodded at their assignments as you let Changmin help you off the horse. He quickly pulled you around the back side of the bunker while the other three split off to different sides. The wood door in the back was broken at the bottom, prompting Changmin to speak.
“There. We can get in through the bottom of the door. I’ll go first.”
He led the way, dropping to the ground to crawl under the broken wood. You heard him draw his sword before whispering.
“It’s safe, your highness.”
You took that as your cue to slide under the door, scraping your face against the hard concrete. The stinging from your cheek being scraped hurt, but you didn’t let it bother you as you pulled yourself up, pulling Sunwoo’s sword out of its sheath. Changmin gave you a nod as he took careful steps. He was making sure to check his surroundings as you both rounded a corner. The place was eerily quiet. There were only long hallways, making the bunker feel like more of a maze than an actual bunker. Changmin was careful to drag the blade of his sword, as quietly as he could, across the walls each time you took a turn.
“In case we have to turn back.” He told you.
As you took another turn, you heard something.
“Wait,” You called out to Changmin. “I hear something.”
Changmin stopped as you both listened.
“Someone’s talking.”
Changmin took a quiet step towards where the sound was coming from as his eyes widened. “It’s Jacob-hyung!”
Changmin took off towards the direction of his voice, making quite the racket as he continued to move quickly. You were beginning to have trouble keeping up with him before you stopped to catch your breath. That’s when you heard it.
More voices. Muffled, but one of them stood out to you.
“I’m not telling you anything. You’ll have to kill me.”
Juyeon.
You followed his voice. The strain in it made your heart squeeze in your chest as you landed in front of two metal doors. Taking a small step forward, you laid your hands on them, bringing your ear to listen.
“Your majesty has invested a lot in his kids to take over when he passes. The oldest has the most power. Just give us what we want, and we’ll let you go. We hate to have to kill the King’s best guard.” An unfamiliar voice said.
Your heart pounded in your chest as you stepped back. You had to help him! Letting your hands slide down the cool metal, you gripped the handles of the doors before ripping them open. Everyone in the room froze.
The men in front of you were dirty. Faces and clothes covered in muck and blood. Dirt and grime built up under their fingernails. They had small blades equipped to their sides as one of them had Juyeon on his knees with the blade to the side of his throat.
“Y/N,” Juyeon breathed out, eyes widening.
“Your highness,” The man holding Juyeon down spoke. “What a pleasure.”
He grinned, giving way to a nasty, greasy smile. His teeth were black and rotted, holes on just about every tooth that was visible.
“We’ve been waiting for you.” The man spoke again.
You eyed Juyeon. One of his eyes was swollen shut. Cuts on his cheek, nose, and lip all swollen. His clothes were badly ripped with dried blood stains and dirty caked all over them.
“Don’t hurt him.” You said softly.
The men started to laugh as Juyeon attempted to free himself, only for the man to push the blade closer to his neck.
Juyeon stopped struggling as he swallowed, looking over you. He couldn’t believe you were in front of him, and while he was grateful you were okay, he was so afraid they would hurt you.
“Y/N, leave now.”
“What do you want?” You asked the man with the blade.
“Stop asking questions, just leave.”
The man tilted his head, the grin never leaving his face. “You. You don’t even know how much money someone will pay for you. Dead or alive.”
One of his men took a hold of Juyeon and the blade as he took a step towards you.
“Stay away!” Juyeon yelled, beginning to struggle again.
The man stopped in front of you. He was much taller than you, causing you to crane your head up at him. He reached one of his dirty hands up to your hair, sliding a loose strand behind your ear.
“I’ll do whatever you want,” You started.
“Y/N, no!”
“Just, please, don’t hurt him. He means the world to me. I can’t live if he doesn’t. I’ll give you everything I have, every secret I know about the kingdom. You have to let Juyeon go, though.” You told the man quietly.
He looked over you. “Sounds tempting.”
Before he could speak again, one of the men yelled out in pain before dropping to the ground. He was bleeding from his back, an arrow sticking out.
“What the hell?” One of the men exclaimed.
“Someone freed the archer!”
Everything happened so quickly. Multiple men dropped, all from arrows as Juyeon tripped the man holding him. Knocking him out, he grabbed ahold of the blade, cutting the rope around his hands before standing.
The man in front of you grabbed you, pulling you into him as he wrapped an arm around your shoulders, trapping you against him. He moved to a corner away from the window all the men got shot from. He pulled out another blade from his boot, holding it to your neck. Juyeon stayed where he was as he watched the man.
“You’re outnumbered. My crew came back for me. It’s only a matter of time before they close in on us. Especially if they freed Hyunjae.” Juyeon told the man as he took a step closer.
The man brought the blade to your side, pushing on it just slightly to apply pressure, making you gasp. Juyeon stopped.
“Hyung!”
Eric’s voice boomed through the hollow walls of the bunker as multiple footsteps echoed throughout the room. Soon all the royal guards had gathered in the room. They stood by Juyeon’s side as the man spoke.
“I’ll do it! I’m all that’s left! I have nothing to live for! But killing the oldest blood of the King, I’ll be legendary. Don’t think I won’t do it!”
Sangyeon and Hyunjae were the last to enter as Sangyeon drew his sword while Hyunjae drew an arrow. Both boys stood at attention, armed and ready to take down the man holding you. A standoff had presumably taken place. Everyone was waiting for someone to make the first move. That’s when you felt the blade dip through the material of your riding gear, beginning to pierce your skin. He was slowly adding more pressure so as to not draw attention to the fact that he was stabbing you. You had to find a way to free yourself.
You moved both your hands up to the arm that was holding you to his chest as you locked eyes with Hyunjae. Your movement made all the boys step forward as the man pulled back as best he could, pushing the blade a little farther into you. You whimpered before scratching at the man’s hand, giving Hyunjae a nod.
Hyunjae let the arrow he had drawn go as it hit the man square in the middle of his hand. The man yelled out in pain as you pulled away and dropped to the floor. Juyeon copied your movements, meeting you halfway as he pulled you into his arms. Hyunjae quickly drew another arrow before letting it fly, effectively silencing the yelling man. You looked over at his lifeless body, watching Sangyeon and Hyunjae make sure he was dead as someone pulled the blade out of your side.
You gasped as you turned in Juyeon’s arms. Younghoon was on one knee, hand held tight to your side to slow down the bleeding.
“Hyung, we have to move now. This cut is deep!” Younghoon told him.
He helped Juyeon lift you as you all worked your way back through the bunker to the exit. You went out the same way you came in thanks to Changmin’s markings on the walls. When you exited, a brigade of soldiers stood outside the bunker with your father at the helm. The men tapped at his shoulder before he turned, watching his guards carry you out.
You clung tightly to Juyeon, who did the same as he went straight to a free horse, loading you and himself up on the saddle. Your father pushed through the guards, shooting a glance at Sangyeon as he tried to catch up with Juyeon who was more worried about the deep cut on your side than debriefing with the King.
“Juyeon, let me,”
“No!” He said before taking off.
Juyeon would deal with the consequences of talking back later. He needed to get you to safety. As he rode, he continued to sneak glances down at you, not wanting to take his eyes off you. He needed you to stay awake. Just until he got you to the castle, but you were losing so much blood.
“Just stay with me, okay? We’re almost there!” Juyeon said as he willed the horse to go faster.
You figured you had enough strength to speak, and just as you opened your mouth, you blacked out.
When you came to, it was dark. The only light coming from a small candle lit by the bed you were in. Your eyes took a minute to adjust as you looked around the room. You were home. You were in your room. You continued to look around to be sure before seeing a figure standing by your window, a figure you recognized all too well.
“Juyeon,” You rasped out.
Juyeon turned on his heels quickly, eyes widening as he strided over to the side of your bed. He dropped to his knees, grabbing your hand as he gently kissed your knuckles.
He gave you a soft smile. “Hi. You’re awake.”
You looked over his face as you frowned. The swelling had gone down, blacks, blues, and discolored greens decorated his face.
“Don’t worry. It hurts worse than it looks.”
You scoffed. “That doesn’t make me feel better, Juyeon.”
The boy chuckled. “I’m so glad you’re okay.”
It was at this moment you realized that you had been out for quite some time.
“How long have I been,” Juyeon interrupted.
“Three days.”
Your eyes widened as you tried to sit up, letting out a gasp at the sharp pain that reverberated throughout your body from your side. Juyeon gently stopped you, helping you lay back down.
“Don’t try to move. Your stitches could break.” Juyeon whispered.
You pulled your hand from the boy’s grasp, gently cupping his cheek to keep from hurting him. Juyeon didn’t let you be too gentle as he took the feather-like touch as an opportunity to nuzzle into your hand.
“You’re okay? Everyone is okay?” You whispered out into the dark room.
The candlelight flickered, casting shadows across Juyeon’s face as he nodded. “Everyone is okay.”
You let out a deep sigh of relief as you finally relaxed. You looked up at the ceiling before looking back at the boy.
He had a ghost of a smile on his face as you spoke. “What?”
He shrugged. “You saved me. You risked your life…for me.”
You nodded. “Of course I did! You’re the love of my life. I’d give up everything for you. Even if it means not being a royal anymore.”
The boy leaned down to gently peck your lips, but you wanted more. You grasped his face, pulling him closer as you laid a more full kiss to his lips. At first, Juyeon tensed up, not wanting to hurt you. Then he relaxed, letting himself get lost in the kiss. He pulled away, leaning his forehead against yours as he chuckled to himself.
“I missed you so much.” Juyeon said.
Pecking his lips once more, you grinned. “I missed you more.”
“I’m still not happy that you risked your life to come save me, though.”
You shrugged. “What is it that you said before you left? Like a moth to a flame, right?”
Juyeon let his eyes close as he let out a breathless laugh. “Touché.”
Juyeon gently crawled into bed with you, maneuvering you around into a comfy position so that he could hold you without hurting you. You guys laid quietly on the bed, just holding each other as the morning sun peeked into the room.
Juyeon looked towards the window, letting out a yawn as he got up.
“Wait,” You said, keeping a firm grasp on his large hand. “Help me up.”
He hesitated. “I really think you should stay in bed.”
“Lee Juyeon, I’ve been in this bed for three days. It’s time for me to get up. I won’t get better laying down all day every day.”
The boy shook his head, cursing your stubbornness as he helped you to your feet. You were wearing clean cotton clothing that was soft to the touch. The bandage wrapped tightly around your abdomen, moving ever so slightly catching your stitches. The slight pinch made you wince as you took a deep breath before looking up at the boy.
Even like this, Juyeon was in complete awe of you. You were amazing. The boy let go of your hands to cup your face, wanting to give you another kiss before a knock sounded at the door.
You called out to the person as the door pushed open. Hyunjae popped his head in as he smiled, bowing to you.
“Your highness, good to see you out of bed.” Hyunjae told you. “Juyeon, his majesty would like a word with you.”
Juyeon stared at the boy for a moment before nodding. He looked at you as he gave you a small smile. You shook your head, going to speak before he stopped you.
“It’s okay.” He whispered.
His hands dropped from your face, to his sides as he headed for the door. Hyunjae gave him a sad smile as he patted his back. The moment he exited the room, your heart dropped. You really thought your father would spare him since he saved you. Hyunjae looked back at you as he walked over, helping you sit on the bed.
“I’m sorry, Y/N. We tried to change his mind.” Hyunjae said softly.
You could only nod. “Could you help me to the greenhouse? I just want to be outside and alone for a moment.”
Hyunjae nodded, standing and holding out his hand for you to take. He walked you to the greenhouse, opening the door as you let go of his hand. You sat on one of the benches, breathing in the fresh air as you awaited the dreadful news praying that your father would at least let Juyeon say goodbye to you.
The flowers were in full bloom. Pretty peonies, tulips, and lavenders decorated the greenhouse. Different fruit trees grow throughout the grounds. Your mother took pride in making the greenhouse beautiful. She had her reasons for picking each plant, specifically the peonies because they were able to withstand even the harshest weather conditions, constantly growing back no matter what. It was a peaceful oasis to escape to when things became too much. That’s where you would always end up, and where Juyeon always knew to look for you first.
The footsteps behind you brought back all too familiar memories as you shut your eyes tightly. You kept them close as the footsteps got closer, practically closing in on you. They stopped behind you before you felt the bench shift just slightly.
“One day I’m going to hide somewhere different to get away from everything. When you come looking for me here first, I’ll be gone.” You said softly.
The laugh you loved so much filled the large greenhouse. “That will certainly be a first. It’s too bad I’m always one step ahead of you. I always know where you are and where you’re going before you do. Part of my job.”
His statement made you let out a breathless laugh as you opened your eyes. When you looked at him, he was already staring at you. His cat-like eyes showed nothing but love.
“How much trouble did you get into?”
Juyeon smiled as he grabbed your hand. “A lot. I was relieved of my duties,”
You felt your shoulders slump. So much for holding out hope. You had hoped your father would be lenient on Juyeon like he was with Sangyeon.
“I’m sorry, Juyeon. I’m so sorry.” You whispered.
Juyeon chuckled. “Don’t be. He already got me another job.”
You smiled sadly. “Where is he sending you to?”
Juyeon let out a breath as he began to grin. “I have to be the head guard for this spoiled royal brat. Follow them around, watch their every move. Make sure they stay out of trouble and obey their father.”
His last comment made your head shoot in his direction. “You, you’re not leaving?”
Juyeon shook his head, dark fringe falling in front of his eyes as you jumped into his arms. Your weight hit him like a truck making him grunt as he wrapped his arms around you.
“You’re stuck with me, your highness.” Juyeon said as he nuzzled his face into your neck.
You felt him leave soft, feather-like kisses on your neck before lifting his head to peck your cheek, then your temple. You pulled away, pulling the boy into a deep kiss. He held onto you as tight as he could without hurting you as you both pulled apart.
“I love you. No one on this planet can keep me from you. I hope you know that.” Juyeon said with the utmost confidence.
Nodding, you pecked his lips. “I know. And I love you too.”
He went to pull you in for another kiss before you turned your head, making his lips land on your cheek.
“What was that for?”
“Lee Juyeon, I am not a brat.” You exclaimed.
A big, sly smile made its way to Juyeon’s face as he tilted his head. “You most certainly are a brat, but that’s okay because I want you to be my brat until the peonies stop growing back.”
“That might take a while,” You teased.
He shrugged, pecking your lips. “The rest of your life okay?”

juyeon x reader + request by @i95wvo (thank u for requesting :D)
genre: getting together, strangers to friends to lovers, bad boy x good reader trope, tutoring, kissing, fffluff??? gender neutral reader (pretty is used) notes: actually this is like my first time writing a story where the relationship isn't already established TT so i hope its good. also i did make them hangout a few more times before actually getting together since i felt it awkward that they move so fast LMAO and also juyeon is just too nice to be mean i love him word count: 2.3k
“juyeon’s so annoying,” your friend complained as she sat beside you, moving your books aside despite your protests. you had a test next class and you knew that if you didn’t study now, you wouldn’t get the grade you wanted.
you took your notebook back and flipped to the page you were just reviewing, ignoring your friend’s words.
“did you not hear me?”
“hear what?” you looked up with a bored expression.
“juyeon’s annoying.”
you glanced up and back to the corner of the classroom where he was currently listening to music through his earphones, dozing off with his head in his hand.
you eyed her weirdly, “ why?”
“well he looks peaceful now, but just earlier, i tried to work with him on a project and he was so quiet and looked like he was glaring at me the entire time…”
you turned back, he was looking at you now. you held your breath and quickly turned back around.
“i don’t know,” you mumbled. “maybe that’s just how his eyes are. can you let me study now?”
your friend once again ignored your request.
“do you really think he’s a nice person?” she bit back. “isn’t he the resident bad boy of this school?”
you internally cringed at the nickname.
“uh…”
“y/n.”
“i mean personally, he’s not all that bad.”
“what?” she stared in disbelief.

you knew about juyeon. the thing that you didn’t know was why he constantly put up a tough front when in reality he’s really just a nice person.
it had happened last week. when you were strolling through the library, trying to find that one book that would help in your research project. as you turned the aisle, you ran into juyeon. that tall guy with dark hair seemingly loomed over everyone with a scary aura. you ran straight into him.
“oh,” you breathed out. "sorry."
“y/n?” he spoke.
“hm?” you weren’t surprised that he knew your name despite never talking. you had practically all your classes with him.
“can you do me a favor?”
you blinked. that was new.
“yes?” you said, almost sounding like you were questioning him instead. he pulled up his phone and showed a picture. it was a picture of a book.
“i need help finding this book to borrow,” he spoke in his usual deep voice.
you almost let out a laugh at the book itself. “How to Befriend a Kitty: A Guide” was what it read on the screen.
it seems he must’ve heard your chuckle because he furrowed his eyebrows in slight confusion.
“what’s so funny?”
“first, you can’t befriend a kitty? second, can’t you just search it up?” you laughed.
you could see his cheeks redden slightly. “no, for some reason my cat really hates me,” he explained sheepishly. “and i’ve tried everything, so i thought a traditional book would help…”
“hm, well…” and then you led him throughout the whole library, walking through the various aisles until finally, you found the book. you handed it to him with a smile.
“thank you,” he said. you could spot the smallest smile on his lips.
“no problem.”
it was silent.
“can i get your number?”
your mouth dropped open and your eyes widened.
“m-me?” you stammered out.
“yes, you,” he said bluntly.
you slowly nodded as you handed him your phone. after exchanging numbers, juyeon stated that he had to go. he gave a small wave before walking the other way. you stood there, rooted to the spot as he disappeared. he wasn’t bad at all.

juyeon watched the back of your head as you hunched over your books, seeming to be cramming for a test. he could make out the slope of your nose and the way the window glowed against your skin.
he sighed, his eyes softening, a sort-of romantic ballad playing in his ears.
juyeon always liked you, ever since he had laid eyes on you. he’s just never had the courage to ask you out or even approach you until he ran into you at the library.
his eyes shifted down to where his recent mathematics test paper was sitting on the desk. there was the number 50 written on it in bright red pen. or was it a 20? he never was skilled at math anyways.
he glanced at you again and you were looking back at him too. he could feel his cheeks start to warm as he hurriedly looked away.
and that was when he had the most amazing idea ever.

you stared down at the phone. you had just finished a conversation with juyeon and now there was an address on the screen that he had texted you.
you tilted your head slightly as the conversation replayed in your head.
“y/n," you jumped when you heard his deep voice behind you. school had just ended and you were packing up your things to leave.
“juyeon,” you replied quietly. "do you need something?"
“yes.”
he stared with expectant eyes as if to wait for your answer. you giggled.
"what is it then?"
he took a deep breath before spilling it all out, “i need a tutor for math because i failed the test and you seem really good at math so i was wondering if you could come over to my house and teach me some things-”
firstly, it was funny how he had rushed everything into one sentence with a higher-pitched voice as if he was really nervous. second, he wanted you to tutor him?
“uh- juyeon wait- calm down," you stood up and thought for a second. he seemed nice enough and he just wanted a good grade so... "sure, i’ll go but what exactly was your test grade? and why me?”
“a twenty or a fifty. and you seem like the right person,” his voice was back to its monotone deep voice.
“you can’t even read numbers?”
“no- it’s just that the teacher’s handwriting is horrendous. it’s like a doctor’s.”
you laughed. and you stopped. you laughed at juyeon’s joke. you never even knew that juyeon could make jokes.
“when are you free?”

and so there you were, standing right at his doorway the next day. you took a deep breath and pressed the doorbell, swaying side to side as you nervously waited for what felt like hours.
until finally, the door swung open, and there he was with a small but visible smile on his face. your eyes widened slightly. you just realized that you’ve never seen juyeon outside of school which meant that you’ve never seen him without the school uniform on. not like he ever wore it properly anyway.
you were wearing a casual outfit. not too lazy, not too special. juyeon’s was casual too, except he looked good in it. it was a simple black t-shirt, yet it fit him incredibly well with his tall height and broad shoulders. you gulped, gripping the math textbook in your hands.
“y/n?”
“yes?”
“i was asking if you wanted anything to drink,” he said as he stepped aside so that you could enter his home.
“oh!” you shook your head. “no, i’m fine.”
he shrugged as he led you down to where his room was located.
“we can study here,” he calmly spoke. you nodded as you entered and sat down at the desk where there were two chairs located. you were just about to beckon him over when you noticed something small.
a hello kitty plushie propped up on a nearby shelf.
“hey…” your eyes widened. “is that-”
“what?” he hurriedly rushed over and shoved it down in a dark corner of the room. “it was nothing.”
you stared, your mouth wide open in shock. he stared back, his eyes narrowing as if trying to hypnotize you that you saw nothing.
and then you burst out laughing, unable to contain it anymore.
“so, you’re really different than what others think, huh…” you patted the seat next to you and he slowly went to sit almost timidly. “hello kitty, huh?”
“look, it was a gift from my aunt okay?”
“sure,” you laughed. “whatever you say.”
juyeon reached down and pulled out his notebook and a pencil with an embarrassed sigh.
“and there goes my intimidating act that i keep up in school,” he grumbled, eyeing you.
you smiled.
“there’s no need for it though? why keep it up?”
“people piss me off,” he explained, taking your textbook and flipping to one of the pages. “is it so bad to just want to ignore their annoying, chatty selves?”
you paused. then, you feigned fake hurt across your expression. “so am i annoying to you as well?”
he sputtered, his cheeks turning red, “n-no! not you. you’re very…”
and it looked like he was about to say something but instead, he slammed his pencil down.
“let’s start?” he said hurriedly.

juyeon surprisingly (not so surprisingly judging by his sweet personality) was good at studying. he certainly wasn’t good at math, but that’s why you were there. you helped him through every step of the problem until he understood it. everytime he would get the answer right on his own, he would secretly smile to himself proudly. you thought it was endearing.
“y/n.”
you looked up from putting on your jacket since you were about to leave.
“hm?”
juyeon thought for a moment, his hair falling over his eyes. he bit his lip nervously as he fidgeted with his hands.
“do you want to… to go get ice cream after school tomorrow?”

“so,” your friend nudged your shoulder as she sat next to you on your bed. “you and the certified bad boy huh?”
“please stop calling him that.”
“you didn’t answer the question!”
you sighed, your cheeks starting to feel warm when you recalled the earlier events of that day. he paid for your ice cream, giggled (giggled!) when you left some vanilla on your lips, and even walked you home while chatting about whatever you wanted. who knew that juyeon had such a sweet side to him? he was confusing you and he made your heartbeat somehow beat faster.
“so what? we’re just new friends that’s all. and i tutor him,” you explained.
“and…?”
“nothing else!”
she giggled, slyly, toying with her hair. “but judging by the way he looks at you…”
you paused and abruptly turned your head to her.
“what?” you exclaimed.
“nothing, nothing.”

this was now your fifth tutoring session with juyeon. the two of you grew closer and closer, even exchanging smiles in the halls. for some reason though, people haven't noticed your guys’ newfound friendship and still avoided juyeon. but maybe, that’s just his whole intention.
all the tutoring sessions were about math, until this one. this time, he said it was english.
you plopped down next to him on the small couch he had in his room.
“now, it’s english?”
he silently nodded.
“what’s your test score?”
he went to one of the desk drawers and pulled out the paper. right there, on the corner of it was a large 100 and a well done!
you stared blankly at it. then, back up to him. he was smiling shyly.
“juyeon-” you slapped your hand over your own face in disbelief. “why would you ever need me to tutor you on this?”
he pouted cutely, despite his all-black attire.
“i wanted to spend time with you.”
and that hit your heart like a sharp arrow. your cheeks immediately began to flush as you quickly looked away. this was not what you had expected.
“wh-whatever. you could’ve asked to get ice cream again or something,” you rambled, your heart was beating fast this time.
“but,” he stated clearly and bluntly. “i wanted to give you this.”
and then he reached under the couch and pulled out a bouquet of flowers. it was beautiful, multiple colors and different flowers scattered around. you gasped immediately at the sight of it.
“wh-what is this?” you took it in your hands gently. you could see his hands trembling nervously. "this is for me?"
“well i wanted to confess to you eventually…” he mumbled.
“confess?” you questioned, your eyes widening.
“y/n, i really like you," he stated, placing a hand on his chest sincerely.
and you almost fainted right then and there.
“huh?”
“i’ve liked you ever since i laid eyes on you,” his eyes were sparkling and his cheeks were tinted pink as well. “and i enjoy my time with you and you make me, this guy who wears all black all the time, feel all fluttery and pink on the inside.”
you stared in utter disbelief. your jaw dropped as you clutched the flowers in your hand. and then you smiled widely, giggling.
“that’s crazy,” you whispered shifting closer. “i seem to like you too, juyeon.”
“really?” his eyes were wide in hope.
“yeah,” you pinched his cheek. “you’re actually really cute despite the whole bad boy thing you’ve got going on. plus, you are really, really, attractive. even when you smile and-”
and your words were interrupted by his lips on yours. you dropped the bouquet to the floor in shock as he brought you closer with his large hands. you gasped but still, melted into the kiss your heart thumping wildly.
when he pulled away he smiled widely.
“i’ve wanted to do that for the longest time.”
“really?” you asked, breathless.
“you’re just so … pretty.”
you were frozen. your cheeks certainly were red now. and then you leaned closer and kissed him again. and again. and again.
and he reciprocated, even bringing you into a warm hug.
meow.
you both jolted away from each other. when you looked down, there was a kitty. juyeon’s kitty, staring up at you both with angry eyes.
“you still didn’t befriend this cutie?”
“i’m working on it...”

Jisoo was only 2 when she left South Korea and moved to New York. She started dancing when she was 3 and singing when she was 5. She is also a trained Opera Singer.
Jisoo’s mother was also born in Korea but then moved to the states. Jisoo’s father is Korean but was raised in China and at some point became a Korean teacher in China before leaving to the states and meeting Jisoo’s mother.
Jisoo’s mother used to be a singer until she got pregnant with her first son. after having all of her kids, she became a cosmetologist.
Jisoo has 5 cats. Mellow, B, Violet, Lily, and Frisk.
Jisoo has 4 siblings.
One older brother: Juyeon (1998,FC: Juyeon from The Boyz)
2 younger sisters (2004,2006) and one younger brother (2007) No FC yet!
She met Mark Lee when she was 5 in kindergarten and they’ve been friends ever since.
Jisoo left New York in April of 2011 so she can join an entertainment company called SM ENTERTAINMENT in Korea. Mark also joined her as he also wanted to join the company.
Jisoo trained for only 6 months and made her debut with LUCID in September of 2011, at only 11 years old.
It was a controversial debut as there was 9 members, and all of them were underage, but the company was very protective of them that it later died down.

Although Jisoo had made her debut, Mark hadn’t and he was still a trainee. Jisoo and him still kept in contact but since she was so busy with schedules they sometimes went without talking for days.
Jisoo met Park Jisung in 2013, and the company asked Jisoo to befriend Jisung as he was also a dancer. Jisoo and Jisung eventually became friends (After Jisoo went through war)

The company then put Mark and Jisung together and later added Haechan, Jaemin, and Jeno and they were known as Baby Shinki!
the problem was, Baby Shinki were a talented group of boys but they never seemed to behave, which led SM entertainment to have the idea of adding one of the LUCID girls to Baby Shinki, specifically one their age.
after interviewing the 3 members that were around their age, SM made the choice to add Jisoo to Baby Shinki.
Jisoo trained with the boys and was able to guide the boys and pick up their strengths.
The 6 of them were part of SM ROOKIES and people developed the nickname of “The Siblings” For Jisoo, Jaemin, and Jisung. Jaemin and Jisoo had the same exact birthday and Jisung and Jisoo shared similar names and they all had the dynamic of siblings.
The SM ROOKIES also at some point shared a dorm before debut!
Eventually Chenle and Renjun were added to the lineup and debuted as 8 On August 25th, 2016.
Mark and Jisoo were assigned the leader position, and this position allowed them to graduate the group in 2019.

a/n: big thank you to @winterchimez and @heemingyu for helping to curate the ideas to write this piece !! i challenged myself to write this in an hour !! which i just about achieved !! i just had a moment where i was like guys let’s put our brains together and that idea of spontaneity is what makes pieces like this special!
When imagining criminal talk, you imagine murder, guns, the same cold-hearted clichè you hear on the silver screen, however when encountering brains that are not well developed enough to find full time jobs to be honorable members of society you find conversations like these:
“I’m literally batman.” Sangyeon spits across the passenger seat where Juyeon is busy groaning in annoyance, left palm rested on his head.
“No because that would mean I’m robin which is just so wrong.” Juyeon retorted, looking out to the road ahead ignoring the disappointment from Chanhee who had the courtesy of listening to these imbecilic conversations in the back seat.
“Guys-” Chanhee began but was shortly cut off.
“I would be batman.”
“No you wouldn’t, I’m batman.”
“Literally how? I’m batman.”
“Guys?” Chanhee couldn’t seem to get a word in between the two grown men as they drove to their destination, seemingly forgetting all about any plans or what they had to do. “You both are batman, I’m robin.”
Being the only one with a degree in computer science and the brains to execute any plans, Chanhee didn’t mind being robin as long as it settled the childish arguments between the two.
“We’re 5 minutes out, I’ve got into the security systems and disabled the CCTV cameras so we should be good to go. The place closes in 10.” Finally getting his words heard, the other two boys nodded and Sangyeon stepped on the gas - a wide cheshire cat grin spread across his face.
The night was a deep navy, the clouds wrapping up the silver crescent moon in a soft grey blanket, the street lights flickered as the wind hurled and whistled like the sound of pained ghosts.
A small café, bar at night, dimly lit with warm lights stood out from the other stores on 7th street, the place always did well and attracted customers from all over the globe with its homemade goods, in house brewery and highly prestigious aesthetics.
You were working your late shift that night and if you hadn’t noticed the red security light on the cameras begin blinking and suddenly going out - you’d have no reason to believe anything was wrong.
On the phone to your manager, you frantically began asking whether the security had been breached, as you couldn’t get on the till machine to view the stores earnings either - being the lazy old man who you’d woke up from his beauty sleep, he of course began yelling and being entirely unhelpful.
“I’m telling you, I can’t get on to the checkout the lights on the cameras have gone off, I’m scared this hasn’t happened before.” You try to your best to explain how dire the situation was but it was clearly landing on deaf ears.
“Y/N, it must happen all the time. I’m going back to bed I don’t have time for your shit this evening.” With that he hung up, leaving you afraid and the sound of tires screeching from behind the glass window pane had made everything you suspected feel as if it was coming true.
Frantically you got down behind the counter, making an attempt to press the panic alarm but failing as the sound of the door being shattered into tiny crystals screamed through the store, masking your whimpers you kept a tight grip of your mouth.
“Hey kitty cat? You can come out we know you’re here.” A low voice purred, already mapping out the sequence of your death you kept quiet and tried to prolong the moment.
“Come on birdy, you can’t hide.” With that two feet landed in front of you with a slam, a man dressed in all black, features covered by a balaclava crouched in front of you, a pair of unsettlingly familiar cat eyes smiling at you. He reached out, gently pulling your hand away from your mouth. “You know, I won’t hurt you, we just want some cash darling.”
In his right hand was a smaller gun which he didn’t point directly at you, he just led you to the counter where you hadn’t transported the money to the safe yet.
You opened it allowing him to grab all the cash you’d made that day and stuff it into the duffel bag the other was holding.
“Thanks, princess.” The other zipped up the bag, noting the sound of sirens beckoning in the distance.
Since you were unharmed, you didn’t really care that they’d stolen all the money you’d earned that day, after all you never saw a penny of it anyways. However, you’d realized there was a third man in the mix, slightly daintier in frame who rushed out of the private stairwell carrying an arm load of cash stolen from the high security safe upstairs - how did he even get in there?
The sirens closed in, they began to panic as the red and blue flashes closed in on the store.
“Go out the back. It’s unlocked.” You had no idea why you’d told them that, however something in your conscience told you to, whether the devil on your shoulder had told you or you genuinely hated your job that much.
“Why?-” The familiar cat eyes asked, whilst the doe eyed one also stared in confusion over at you.
“Guys there’s no time let’s go.” The muscle of the group barged through the back door, just in time for officers to breach the building.
“Are you unharmed? Are the perpetrators still in the building?” An officer with a megaphone yelled into the store, you did the standard procedure and walked out with your hands in the air.
The last thing you expected was to be grounded to the floor by an officer, your face hitting the pavement lightly with your hands behind your back.
“You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you.” The officer spoke in a gruff voice, screaming to stop resisting as you laid confused.
“I literally work here. I didn’t do anything.”
“Ma’am this store closed hours ago, you have no-”
A shot, a deafening shot that began a frenzy, the officer behind you fell to the floor before you were grabbed and within half a millisecond told to sprint.
A jet black Mercedes had blocked the main road, the sound of chaos erupting behind you, before the door opened and you were let in. The driver sped to the scene before your saviour swept into the passenger seat, if they'd been able to send more police cars there would have been a high likelihood you'd have never gotten away. However, leaving the scene the immense stomach feeling of guilt consumed you.
"You killed a man? Why would you do that?" You yelled suddenly as a silence grew across the men that had gotten you in to the situation.
"Hey, I didn't kill him, it’s not fatal he’ll be fine.” Pulling off the mask, cat eyes revealed himself, his black hair, sharp gestures and sultry voice. Juyeon Lee? You almost couldn’t believe your eyes.. nevermind look at his.
“Besides he would have either killed you or you’d be behind bars. No state attorney would give you a good time in court, we’re just repaying the favor.” Also ripping off his balaclava the driver looked back at you in your seat, his honey skin and deep brown eyes. Sangyeon?
“Do you guys have no sympathy? Is this what you’re doing with your lives now?” You asked distraught over the entire situation that had unfolded.
“Sometimes it’s safer to be feared than loved, y/n.” Sangyeon looked back, a sadistic grin painted across his lips as he almost looked down on your tears.
“Just be quiet and we’ll talk more when we get back. Sangyeon drive.” The boy next to you spoke, his eyes engrossed in the laptop in front of him. He had a more ethereal appearance than the others almost fairy-like which must be a great disguise of innocence for the life he lived. Possibly the most shocking reveal of them all, Chanhee Choi.
Despite feeling as if your entire world had collapsed in front of you and the wavering feelings of guilt eating you up like a lion to steak, somehow it was the most alive you felt in a long time. However the most shocking reveal of this entire encounter was that the same people you’d went to high school with, were living double lives as some of the most notorious criminals in the city.
As you’d arrived a small home located in the middle of a forest area you hadn’t recognized before, the same familiar cat eyes had something to say after the others had already wandered inside.
“I don’t want to be anywhere near you.” You looked at Juyeon seriously folding your arms, had you not had history you probably would have been more grateful for his actions tonight.
“That was years ago, darling. Do you think I still love you? Do you think I still care?” He laughed, his teeth curling into a smirk and his tongue poking the side of his jaw.
“Clearly! You jumped in front of an armed police officer you absolute maniac. I was always right about you, you’ve become some kind of psycho, that’s why I broke up with you and why the hell is Chanhee even involved with you?” You yelled, quickly being hushed by his voice as he stepped closer.
Something about meeting an ex after years of being apart can feel awkward, but for you it felt like time never passed. The evil inherently toxic nature of Juyeon was always drawing no matter how much you told yourself no, it was addicting.. those feelings of spite, anger, envy were all things that buried that burning feeling of love.
As he looked at you under the moonlight you’d been reminded of the way his eyes softened, the way that the cold words he choses were always ways of communicating that he cared. He didn’t enjoy that he’d corrupted your life, he thought he was saving you. If you couldn’t bare the weight of your world he would take you into his, he didn’t want to ruin your life.. He’d risk his life for you, since he knew his was a lot less “valuable”, which you continuously told him back then wasn’t true.
“Maybe I do but remember, you wouldn’t be alive if it weren’t for me y/n and I told you not to fall in love with me.” He shook his head, looking down at you, tracing his finger across your jaw, bringing back all those feelings of safety you once felt. “There’s nothing left for you but me. Everyone else is gone. It’s always been that way and you know that.”
Unfortunately he was right.

“I’m trying to read” you say to Juyeon.
He’s sat beside you, you guys agreed to have a library date (well, you wanted to, he just went with it because he loves doing anything with you), so now you are here with him.
“I know, is the book interesting?” he asks.
“Very much, would be even better if you don’t look at me every second, I can’t read properly!”
“Shhhh!” someone shush to you.
You give to Juyeon a look trying to communicate that he should read his own book.
“You can still reading, I just like to look at you, is that a crime? I think it’s better than reading this boring book, to be honest…” he confesses.
“You know? You are way more extroverted and romantic when your friends aren’t around, I have to give you that; I love the exclusivity” you let out a little giggle.
He gets really shy, he’s normally like that; quiet, shy, introverted, he just minds his own business really well. But when he’s with you he’s always all over you; hugging you, kissing you, holding your hand, yapping about everything and nothing at the same time. And you love that. Because that makes you realize that he trusts in you and has confidence with you around him.
“Why would you say that now…?” he’s shy now, and nervous.
“Aw, my little beautiful boy, you are so cute when you get shy.”
“Little? You know im taller, and older, right?” he says.
“Yes, so?” you ask. “I don’t care, you are my baby” you are now smiling at his reaction, he looks like a little cat. “You know what? Let’s go walking around the city, I’m done with this.”
You get up and so does he.
“Didn’t you like the book date?” he asks.
“Yes, but I like more talking to my baby boyfriend.”
“Stop saying that, Y/n…” he tries to not look at you.
You laugh while you guys get out the library. It was fun at least.
“You are so cute!” you squish his cheeks and poke your finger inside his dimple. “Look at you, so pretty.”
“Stop it!” he tries to put your hands away but the end of the result is just you both laughing at the situation. “Okay fine! I’m your baby.”
“Told ya’!” you smirk. “You’ll always be” you kiss him on the cheek, leaving a soft lipgloss mark on it.
“Actually, yes…” he smiles, putting his big hands around your waist. “I love you.”
“I love you more, Juyo.” you call him with his nickname.
He gives you a soft kiss outside the library in a beautiful spring late afternoon, with all the lights on in the street. A beautiful view.
