“Brother of mine, do not leave.”
Tumblr media
[Pollux x Reader]
Tumblr media
summary: Castor’s dead and you’re Pollux and Castor’s best-friend.
genre: angst
notes: sorry this is short, i honestly just want to get back to writing after the long hiatus—sorry!! this has been in my drafts since last year… so glad to have it out now (p.s. new-ish format for my posts)
Tumblr media
You watch Pollux as he closes his eyes, silent as you scoot closer to him in the tall grass. The sun’s in his face and it kind of looks like he’s about to cry again. You block the sun with your head, gazing down at his figure.
He opens his eyes, glossy violet, a familiar sight except he’s trying his best not to cry so his eyes are brimming with tears. He stares up at you. “Hey,” he mutters, breath ragged as he tries not to fall apart in front of you.
“Don’t hold it in,“ you tell him, a hand finding his hair. You can’t help it, you’ve always had a soft spot for the two of them, liked them best in camp. “Cry, no one is here.”
His lip trembles, eyes closing shut when you say that. Pollux’s chest rises and falls heavily.
“I miss him,” he admits with a tone you’ve never heard before. His voice sounds so wrecked, so broken that you’re unable to stop yourself from hugging him.
He tenses for a moment, shocked you’d do that, but after a second he eases and holds you close, sitting up with you.
“I do too,” you manage sadly, exhaling against his skin. “I’m sorry, I wish I could do something… anything.”
Pollux shakes his head, burying his face deeper into your hair and inhaling shakily. Like each breath takes his all, as if swords are piercing his lungs as it fills with air.
“Just… just you being here, it hel-helps.”
The way his voice is small and wavering makes your heart ache with sorrow.
You can’t even imagine it. Losing the only person you’ve had since birth. Your twin, your brother. But you suppose you don’t have to, because you neither have a brother nor a twin.
The son of Dionysus cries silently against you, his chest rumbling with small whimpers and whines. And all you can do is rub his back and act as if you can’t hear his sharp breaths of air.
He’s grateful for that, because if you spoke, he’d probably have exploded and everything in a thirty meter radius would be covered in vines or mad.
And as the sun blares angrily at the two of you, you feel Pollux’s body sink into you. Asleep. He’s dozed off in exhaustion, muttering, “don’t leave me.”
Which you don’t. Because how could you deny him of anything right now?

a 'partners in crime' installment - luke castellan x dionysus!reader prev -> love me dry | next -> asking for trouble words: 5.3k summary: (post-tlt) The one where you lose two people in the Labyrinth that day. All strings are cut. (Pollux, Annabeth, Percy, and Mr. D find out the biggest difference between you and Luke.) (Luke Castellan x fem!Dionysus!reader) a/n: yeah to me this fic sounds and feels like that tiktok of the girl humming to her microwave. depictions of the titular battle of the labyrinth at CHB, some blood/gore, death & grief. the usual. you forced me to by lizzy mcalpine. references to cat on a hot tin roof by tennessee williams if you squint (posted 5/14/24)
The first time Pollux has a panic attack, time seems to stop and the world keeps moving on without him.
He’s reminded of a time when you rambled on about how anxiety takes possession of the senses like a moment frozen in a snapshot meant for you to identify. In the memory, you had your feet kicked up on the dash flipping through a DSM-5 while he and Castor took turns speeding up and down Farm Road (totally normal older sister behavior from you, and when a cop pulled you over, the three of you narrowly escaped a ticket by talking in riddles and godly smoke that smelled like grapes). Pollux still remembers the sound of laughter in the car blending like three different chords to an archaic melody (or squawking crows in the strawberry fields)— the bond between you three laid out before time knew limits and was always meant to be.
It’s still his favorite song. You’re their favorite (and only) sister, they love to joke. These are facts that will never change.
“You two have each other, and well, I’ve got this,” you had said, the Zippo flicking open and closed against your thumb in the blossoming darkness of the car. Pink and purple rays of waning light blanketed the old hatchback as it steadily made its way back towards Half-Blood Hill, comfortable silence shared in the way only siblings can stand to be quiet—when there are no words needed to get a point across. But you’ve always set yourself apart from the pack, not needing anyone like how they need each other.
Not since Luke left, at least. The growing distance between you three since your untimely resignation from camp was proof enough. Pollux’s eyes met Castor’s in the rearview mirror as they both noticed your sad smile. His brother’s voice broke through the silence then, having always been the one blunt enough to say what was on his mind, “You’ve got us too if you let us see you more often.” Your fidgeting stops.
“It’s not you two, it’s just hard to be back here sometimes. I see things for what they used to be instead of how they really are now. Now it’s just… it has to be all business.”
Pollux cracked a smile, “S’what you get for growing up. Soon we’ll just be annoying voices in your head like you are to us.” Shutting your textbook, you turned to look at them from the passenger seat, eyes that match theirs darting between their blond heads, “All of us have to grow up eventually. Except maybe you two— I prefer you in my nightmares like the kids from The Shining. Whenever you get sick of Dad, come see me. Gods know that camp deserves a break from the two of you too.” Your knuckles knocked against both of their heads affectionately as he put the car in park, “My built-in bodyguards, huh? Always looking out for me.”
All words and meaning escape Pollux now as he stands in the greenery of the North Woods with battle gear ill-fitted to his large frame. It’s the first siege he’s ever taken part in, the first time he’s had to use battle strategies outside of Capture the Flag and the first time he’s slashed his way through monsters and demigods with the intent to try and kill or be killed. Sword and Shield could have never prepared any of them for this—as his eyes meet Castor’s and then yours with all of you thinking the same thing, the three of you join the sea of iridescent orange through mind-numbing black moving like a sharp three-pronged sword.
This type of stuff isn’t typical for him, he thinks. He and Castor are used to being comedic relief— being the source of laughs and juice boxes for pesky little campers instead of facing the real world outside the boundaries of the Mist. Perhaps your father babied them to make up for the time he lost with you, but there’s a moment where he wonders how being kept soft will keep him alive in a world as harsh as this one.
Childlike innocence is ripped away from them in the bubble they’ve inhabited until this moment. Home is now a warzone and like lambs set up for slaughter, the twins both turn to look at you as a shuddering gasp leaves your mouth at the carnage in your surroundings, monster blood and fallen friends and enemies at your feet. Breaking away from formation to take a deep breath, he looks at the sky and wonders where your father is, but smoke and soot fill his lungs and he coughs desperately for a breath of fresh air.
Pollux thinks he must have stopped breathing before Castor took his last breath. It wasn’t supposed to be a competition, but sometimes life was just funny like that.
5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
Just like you told him.
Castor was always the more manic one while Pollux knew how to endure. Children of Dionysus are forced to befriend insanity before it makes an enemy out of them—twisting the ugly into what’s real and creating something beautiful out of the deranged. You’ve shown the boys how you detach from emotion by recognizing the details—separating fact and fiction, a methodical process only describable by the blood that runs through your veins. Pollux doesn’t know where to start—everything happens so fast but it plays out in front of him like someone put the pieces together to a stop-motion animation.
He sees Castor’s sword fall to the ground when he gets slashed on the forearm and sees him get clubbed over the head with a metal weapon he’s only seen bad renditions forged for theater practices and hanging on the walls of the armory. Castor falls first to his knees, and then into the dirt with a thud. He never knew there could be that much blood coming out of a person, much less a mirror image of himself. Pollux sees your face come into his line of vision, deep maroon splatters on your face glittering with hints of ichor and then you’re moving because he can’t. The enemy is coming back for him now, and for a moment he wonders if Castor will be mad if he lets him. He sees you turn in an instant, swinging your sword down on the neck of the aggressor, a teenager not much older than he and his brother are—were. It’s funny how his brain immediately makes the switch to past tense, and how he can’t stop thinking about how he’ll now and forever be older than his twin. Pollux then sees you catch the body of the boy you just killed as life seeps out of him slower than it did for Castor.
It doesn’t make him feel any better, though.
His knees hit the ground next to his twin, touching the sludge of dirt soft like quicksand and moist with what he hopes is not blood, but Pollux is not quite sure of what else there is to hope for. His fist is wrapped around Castor’s shirtsleeve, touching faded orange and sweat as he holds on for dear life. Maybe if he tries hard enough his soul will still be intertwined with his. Your hand touches his shoulder, five fingers reaching out to brush the back of his neck and the feeling of your skin helps him refocus a bit, even if you’re saying something he can’t make out. Then the metal of your Zippo lighter feels cool to the touch within his palm and he knows what he needs to do.
The battle isn’t over, but for the three of you, everything stops here. There is no going forward without your brother. You were never meant to be children of war.
Pollux hears the sound of his heartbeat thundering through his ears, blood rushing through his veins and can’t help but notice the silence amid the chaos. There are no words fit for this—and even if there were, Castor and you were always the more talkative ones. He hears the spark of the purple flame between his fingers, blowing the smoke over him and his brother’s body, and their father’s powers blanket them like how you used to tuck them into bed, warm and safe. This is what your family is—unconventional and unending even in different realms of existence. And then Grover’s scream of panic echoes through the air and everyone hears that. Hysteria ensues as monsters and demigods alike run amok, and Pollux realizes he’s stopped shaking.
In his father’s domain, he will always find comfort.
You stand above him now directing campers calmly with a free hand—a brewing storm crackling underneath your skin that he now understands. Hidden by the illusion of smoke, Pollux’s tired bones rest alongside his brother’s dead ones— together as they always were meant to be.
The three of you together, his little family—that is a fact he hoped would never change.
The smell of grapes envelops him as he leans his forehead against your muddy leg… when did the battle end? It almost masks the scent of death that rips through the air as your hand brushes through his sandy hair. Pollux stinks of sweat and you stifle a laugh as you see him smell his armpit. You three were always the same type of fucked up. He doesn’t look down at Castor laid across his lap but knows he would’ve found it funny too. Ignorance of reality even for a moment serves as a comfort. Purple meets purple as he looks up at you with a smile that doesn’t fit his face anymore and he croaks, “Wonder what dad would say about our first battle…”
Glory was never meant to be this bittersweet—it tastes like blood in his mouth until he wipes it away from his cheek and realizes it’s Castor’s. In a way, it’s his too, everything about him and within him is exactly the same down to the star stuff the fates wove them from.
“I’ll be the one to tell him. You take care of Castor,” you answer, as if there’s anything else he would want to do and then he realizes you’re crying— and he’s seeing all of the pieces put together in front of him in this photograph in his mind.
Pollux blinks slowly.
Suddenly the image he has of you is more defined— there is new meaning to the sadness you could never shake off all these years, and he is too young to lose his greatest love, which makes him realize then that so were you.
How long does this have to go on? he wonders, grabbing onto your hand with an eagerness only comparable to the feeling he got when you and Luke whisked him and Castor away from Florida all those years ago. This punishment of living while half of his soul does not—what is he supposed to do next? This was supposed to be the safe place. There is nowhere left to run. His thumb rubs circles into the back of your shaking blood-soaked hand, a secret within the smoke.
Pollux thinks there will always be a part of him frozen in time now, a memory of this day hung up in his mind like a portrait as he holds Castor’s cold hand in his warm one.
Annabeth finds you in the middle of the strawberry fields before the sun sets. She knows you won’t be sleeping tonight, not if you can fight it— not when there’s so much to do. You’ve long grown out of your ripped-up and tie-dyed camp shirts, and the one slung on your frame is newly pressed and starchy from the storage room of the Big House, still stiff against your freshly washed skin. When she’s close enough to touch you, you’ve been scrubbed clean of today.
She doesn’t have to be a daughter of Athena to know that you know that she’s there even if you can’t see her, but for once she feels like she has to hide. For once, Annabeth Chase doesn’t know what to say. How can she explain the feeling of guilt that coils around her brain like barbed wire—how can she even begin to apologize for the thing wearing her brother’s skin, knowing that it killed yours? For once, her hubris is crushed by the sinking feeling of humiliation.
“Was your first quest all you thought it would be, Annie?”
As she takes her navy cap off, silver braided strands around her face wave in the wind as a reminder of what Luke put her through. Though as she looks at you now with your berry-stained fingers plucking at stems one by one instead of using your powers, she thinks that your mind is elsewhere—anywhere but here, where everything is a painful reminder of your five years as a camper.
Five years with Luke.
Mourning him isn’t a new feeling for either of you, even though he comes in and out of your lives like a poltergeist you want to bash across the head, just always out of reach. But he’s a constant, even when he’s not here and he’s what binds you two together as you huddle hidden away from the rest of camp.
“He did this for you.”
It’s not a question, more so a fact out of Annie’s mouth when you finally meet her eyes and sigh, “Luke’s always had a way going about things. The most stubborn man to ever live.” You toss another strawberry into the crate at your feet. No one’s working right now, trying to tend to the injured and the dead. Everyone’s doing their best to chase away the nightmares that are bound to come, and she knows you’ll be making rounds with her on the night shift to ease everyone’s anxieties. But there’s a thought so strong it makes her head hurt, bursting at the seams until she can’t stop with her last-ditch effort to fix her found family.
“Maybe if we find him, we can save—”
“He’s been out of time for a while now, Annabeth. We both knew that,” you say, voice firm and unwavering. You’ve never sounded so monotone before, and it hits her as her mouth falls agape, “You’re giving up on him? Why… why would you give up on him?” Anger courses through her veins like fire and she’s mad that she’s at the center of this prophecy, of Hermes’s anger for his doomed son who will love you until the ends of the earth.
And what of her?
What of the hope she has in happy endings, how is it that you’re so damn calm? Annabeth kicks at the crate, strawberries rolling out in different directions and your jaw tightens as you let her be petulant, let her scream and yell until her inner child can catch up with the reality of the world around you.
“How could you?”
Your name echoes as she repeats it, grabbing at your shoulders and she’s as desperate as the truth that shakes her when you cup her face in your hands and wipe her tears.
“You’ve carried the weight of the world Annabeth– you know what it feels like to let it go. It’s time to let him go. There’s nothing I can do or say to fix this.”
Then it hits her that you knew of his fate and yet this was still the outcome. There was nothing else to do but watch him be puppeteered by a Titan and have to fight evil while it wears his face.
“He came to you after he saw me, didn’t he? Why didn’t you tell me? Why don’t you love him anymore?”
Because it wouldn’t have changed a thing, your eyes say. Instead, you grimace as you say, “Wouldn’t that be funny if it were true?” You lean down and pick up the fallen berries, some bruised and covered in dirt, and then you look at her again with teary eyes.
“Some prophecy huh? To lose a love to worse than death. What could we have done besides love him until the end?”
“He’s still in there. I know you know that too. Don’t talk about him like he’s not,” Annabeth insists, and a sad smile settles upon your face. It’s as gentle as the kiss of the breeze on your cheeks.
“I lost a brother today, Annie.”
“Me too.”
The funny thing about planning funerals is that with all the fuss it takes to organize one, you still find extra time on your hands. Barely getting any sleep and dragging yourself out of your dad’s bed, Pollux snores loudly next to you after hours of working on Castor’s shroud. Sleep wasn’t expected for either of you, but being unconscious was the only way of giving your brains a reprieve. The both of you have been busy doubling down on the preparations, even if it means Mr. D won’t be back in time while he’s out rallying gods for war.
The faster Castor’s earthly body is reconnected with his soul, the easier his trip will be into the Underworld, Nico says, and it’s funny how comforting the little emo pipsqueak can be when it comes to matters of death.
Perhaps this is the solace you bring to others with things you’re able to control—keeping camp afloat is something you were always good at, and helping every traumatized child that comes up to you for a juice box or a lullaby eases the guilt that follows you. Walking around Camp Half-Blood for more than a weekend made you feel like a judge, jury, and executioner. Though most of the campers from almost five years ago have either aged out, defected, or died—the ones that remain still look at you like you’re trouble.
Perhaps you always will be.
You even found yourself with the time to pray to Hermes last night for your brother’s safe passage into the afterlife, though if he’s angry at Annabeth, he must hate you for letting Luke go. Dinner didn’t seem appetizing enough anyway, so your whole plate was tossed into the hearth. You hope he likes chicken and rice.
But if a god can’t fight fate, what did he expect you to do?
The Iris Message to your dad last night was difficult, to say the least. Pollux’s hands shook as he continued to paint grape vines onto the silk cloth and the both of you didn’t say anything when your father started to cry. He out of all of the gods knows what it’s like to be tested to the limits—to endure pain and it’s a gift you and your brother are grateful for in times like these. Watching the god display the human emotion that either of you couldn’t as freely made it more real though.
There was also the interesting predicament of Chris Rodriguez being locked up in the basement of the Big House. Replacing screaming fits with serenity was almost second nature, and your gentle hands were what got Clarisse to truly respect you again for the first time in years. You could hear her sneak downstairs and talk to him while he slept (and the look in her eyes when you’d greet her with a cup of coffee made it known to you that she finally understands what it means to love someone who’s lost—two demigod daughters filled with a lot of rage and hurt were more alike than they think).
So the morning of your little brother’s funeral, you found yourself on the shoreline of Canoe Lake, setting your Redbull against the post of the dock and looking out onto the water.
You needed to do something with your hands. In the past few days, if your fingers were not occupied by pen and paper, a guitar, supply crates, or anything else that was helpful to others and all the more distracting for you, it’s been so easy to pick at any little thing. Perhaps it was your subconscious trying to reflect the damage on the inside, but today, your nail polish was chipped beyond belief. A small price to pay to not lose it without a signature boyish smile to ease your worries and amber eyes that could help you escape from the routine.
Running camp was always easier back then with your runaway boy and his scarred cheek.
How pathetic.
Crouched over in the sand, you plucked stones and filled your pockets with them. They knocked against each other — weighing your pockets down as you walked closer to the dock. Swinging your feet off the side and chucking them into the water, you could barely achieve a ripple.
It’s so quiet that you end up wondering if the rocks in your pockets would weigh you down to the bottom of the lake. It must be nice down there, to exist away from everything.
Bubbles surface slowly in front of you, then Percy’s head bobs in the water as he squints at you through sunlight.
“You chucked a rock at my head!”
A smile tugs at your lips, almost indiscernible but definitely there, “I was trying to skip them. Didn’t know you were doing water tricks in there, kid.” His grin gleams like freshwater pearls, pulling himself up onto the dock as his hand clasps yours. Shaking his sopping hair, Percy’s gangly frame sits next to yours like a wet bag of sand—all wrinkly and misshapen and sprinkling you with lakewater.
“Maybe next time don’t pick rocks the size of your fist. How many have you got in there? Your aim is scarily accurate,” he laughs and you huff and shake your head when his hand sticks into your pocket and takes out a few smooth ones to roll around in his hand. You mirror him, watching him skip a few stones into the water that reach a good distance before sinking into the depths of the lake.
There’s something sad about feeling comfortable to trauma dump on the teenage son of Poseidon, but with the way he grabs your arm at your third unsuccessful toss of a rock, you can’t do anything else but sigh.
“Why didn’t any of you call me, Percy?”
He was waiting for this question—it’s been banging around in his head since the beginning of Annabeth’s quest, and perhaps her talk with you yesterday didn’t go as expected so once again he’s left with the difficult part.
Things happen to turn out pretty difficult for him a lot, he's noticed.
Many things could have been made easier in the past few weeks: Ariadne being your stepmother and her blessing to you would’ve made the Labyrinth easier to navigate, and having another demigod to fight alongside him instead of a mortal girl would’ve been a plus too. But he looks at you with ocean eyes and a smaller smile that reminds you of how he looked at you when you dropped him off in Montauk the summer you met him and quit your head counselor job.
“You’ve already made a lot of difficult decisions. We weren’t sure if…”
The rotten wood beneath you creaks under your shifting weight as you turn to him, tucking your legs underneath your bottom.
“Didn’t think I could handle it?”
He shakes his head, “The opposite, actually. Annabeth has this notion that you’re the only one that can save him. You know, back on my first quest I met Luke’s dad and he told me something…”
You swallow instead of answering. There’s no way Percy is giving you Hermes’s advice right now. Somehow this feels like karmic retribution after years of spiting that asshole, and what he tells you next is more of a sign that it must be true.
“He said, ‘Do you know what that feels like? To be so close to someone you love knowing neither of you has any choice but to keep hurting each other?’ I didn’t get it then, but I do now.”
“With Luke and his mom?” you ask, picking at the remaining slivers of varnish on your thumbnail.
“With you and Luke. I didn’t call you, because… why would I want to see you hurt after everything?” Percy says this like it’s something he would do for everyone.
Perhaps it is, but the knot that forms in your throat feels as heavy as the boulder you almost sunk into his skull. He’s tall enough to lean your head against now, and you don’t mind the water spots that will form along the side of your funeral outfit. The shape of him it leaves will remind you of the little brother you gained through so much loss.
“Plus he has a new girlfriend. Absolute horse of a girl,” he jokes. It slips over your head but you still giggle, “I could’ve taken her.”
“I know, that was Grover’s worry. You’re prettier anyway…” Percy pauses, and then clears his throat, “You’ve always taken care of this place, y’know? Even after….I just think someone ought to take care of you.”
Your shoulder bumps against his as you finally skip a rock. It only bounces across the water twice and you think Percy might have had something to do with it, but you’re not bothered by the help this time around.
You wake up in the dark of night to see your dad looming in the doorway to his office. With drool and a post-it stuck to your cheek, he comes over to ruffle your hair in amicable silence.
“Hard at work or hardly working?” he chuckles, leaning over your shoulder to scan over the paperwork sorted into piles for him to sign from his absence.
“Hm. You wish,” you scoff, leaning against your arm as you look at him. He’s not in his usual eyesore of attire, wearing a clean-pressed suit with his hair slightly slicked back.
“You look good. The meeting went okay?”
“Grover will be fine. The Council of Cloven Elders? Not so much. Neither are the gods ready to take sides. Putting out little fires everywhere as we speak.”
The wheels of the office chair roll as you swing your feet, and if you both listen closely enough you can hear Pollux snoring upstairs. Chiron loved the earplugs you gave him.
Your father’s face smooths out a bit at the sight of you and the sound of his son’s breathing upstairs and he asks, “Are you? Good?”
A shrug slides off your shoulders, “How does one be good in a world like this one?”
A startling scream echoes off the walls of the Big House, rattling the floorboards from below as your father grimaces.
The work is never done for you two.
“Don’t look at me like that. It was worse when he first came here.”
“Don’t doubt it,” he mumbles, brushing lint off your shirt before he notices you’re donning neon orange. “Didn’t do laundry, princess?”
“Pollux and I haven’t gone back to our cabin since... I can wake him up if you—”
Mr. D shakes his head and goes to toss his body onto the couch against the window, shutting his eyes and taking a deep breath.
“Dad? Do you think Chris is a bad person?”
A beat passes and you think he may have fallen asleep, but then his voice sounds like gravel scraping up his throat.
“I don’t think anyone can be bad, kid. I think it is more often that people get lost. What Rodriguez needs is someone to take hold of him gently, and hand his life back to him—you…Clarisse… that’s what we’re giving him.”
Now you’re silent, staring at the dust on his name placard at the edge of the desk.
“Do you think otherwise?”
He calls your name again, and you look up like you’re about to lie to him but don’t have the energy to.
“Princess, do you think you’re a bad person?”
He stands up and walks around to your side of the desk, sitting on the edge so you have to look at him.
“I killed someone. During the battle. Didn’t even think twice about it, slashed his neck as soon as Castor went down and…” you sniff. “I kill monsters, Dad, not children. How does that make me any different?”
The last time blood was on your hands like this it was Luke’s in the Garden of Hesperides. All these years later you ended up being right— the only person you vowed to get bloody for is Luke Castellan, and now in a twisted turn of fate, you’ve bloodied your hands because of him.
“Because you did it for your brother. There are no other explanations needed.”
He sees the exhaustion in your eyes, the drop in your shoulders, but your dad also sees the strength in your bones that spans generations and he knows you and Pollux are strong because you are both his.
“Humans believe in life everlasting—glory, as some call it, but they’re too focused on achieving it on earth instead of enjoying what life has to offer,” he scoffs, “Everyone has the guts to die, but no one has the guts to truly live. How sad.”
“His name was Rowan. Son of Hecate. I taught him how to whistle the summer I left. This is all my fault, Dad,” you say shakily as he comes near and pulls you into his side. He shushes you but you relent.
“Luke’s killing all these people to fulfill a promise he made for me. I’m just fucking disgusted with myself for being the cause of it all. What good life can I deserve when wherever I go I leave a trail of blood?”
Love and addiction must be so alike; to know that to be sober you can’t indulge in the vice ever again—not only does it hurt you, but others around you. But through the years you’ve always kept the taste of his name in your mouth, the feeling of his skin under your fingertips, and the knowledge of why he’s destroying the world so he can make you a better one. Insanity stems from fighting for so long that you embrace the pain; feeling something so intensely that when it consumes you you’re able to walk out the other side and wear it as armor.
Not everyone is hardwired to persevere.
There are moments like a night like these where it would be easy to give up. Instead, you pour two glasses of whiskey you’ve conjured and hand one to your dad. You both sip on your drinks slowly, embracing the crawling feeling of the burn.
“Liquor is one way out and death is another,” your dad sighs blissfully. He almost looks rejuvenated by the alcohol he knows he’ll hear about from Zeus later, but perhaps the death of his son is a good enough pardon.
“For some of us, we don’t have to think about the answer.”
Mr. D grabs a pen off the desk and starts signing papers to do something with his hands, and then you speak again, “I think I’d rather die for people I love,” and your dad’s attention whips to your blank face staring at the moon outside the window. “Instead of killing for them. I’ve never been a good soldier, Dad.”
Mr. D looks at you thoughtfully and wonders where all the time has gone that you sit there in front of him with more knowledge than him at your mortal age before saying, “You’re my daughter. You’re a fighter. Death is for chumps anyway.”
He lifts you by the arm to try to usher you up the stairs but you stay in his office chair swatting his hands away.
“Got work to do, you and I. Not getting rid of me until it’s done.”
“When are you going home?” he asks, pulling up a chair next to yours.
“I am home.”
You don’t look up from the papers you were filing, stubbornness leaking through your voice.
“If there is a war coming, I want to be home as much as I can. I’m finishing my last semester and I’ll be here before and after classes. You can’t stop me, dad.”
And he knows that too.
There is no such thing as leaving Camp Half-Blood for you.
Never for too long. Your love for it is scattered everywhere campers can see.
In all these years, you never believed I loved you. And I did. I did so much. I did love you. I even loved your hate and your hardness. - Tennessee Williams

Hey Akishinji fans, imagine if Atlus weren’t cowards and made Shinjiro’s persona (Castor) fuse with Akihiko’s persona (Polydeuces) to make Akihiko’s ultimate persona (Caesar) like they did for Junpei and Chidori-
If if worked for Chidori and Jumpei who barley knew each other (Don’t fight me- they are adorable and Chidori’s death and Junpei’s reaction broke me) then why can’t the same logic apply to Shinjiro and Akihiko who had known each other for 14 or so years?

Prepare for the longest ramble ever /silly
HELLO I am back home, so now you get to know why Fangs is a little prick /aff
But first, some background on it's purpose for existence, just in case:
Fangs is supposed to be a method of protecting itself+Castor's shared body. It shows up as a panic response, aka whenever Castor believes he is in danger/when he's overwhelmingly stressed.
But, Fangs is very unstable.
The transformation process from Castor->Fangs and then back to Castor again hurts like hell, which makes Fangs panic, and think it's being hurt, since it doesn't process things how a normal person does. Because it is not a normal person. And the fact that Castor is already stressed out when this happens doesn't make it any better.
So, instead of just scaring the perceived threat (which is usually whatever is closest to it), it will also... uh... hurt them, too. Or at least try to. Which usually causes the death of whoever is closest to it aka what it believes the threat is.
It can be calmed down, or distracted from it's goal, but that is VERY difficult.
NOW, why Fangs is a bitch:
After the first couple times a panic transformation occurred, and the first couple deaths, Castor decided that Fangs was WAY too dangerous. And Castor didn't want anyone to get hurt at this point in time, either, so Castor stopped letting it interact with their surroundings. Pretty much trapping it inside his mind until he literally broke under stress and couldn't hold it back anymore.
That made Fangs sad, obviously, since it couldn't do anything except look through Castor's eyes when it wanted, or try to get Castor's attention through their thoughts. Which didn't work very often, since Castor has to focus pretty hard to hear it. And he didn't WANT to hear it, he wanted to forget it was there. And after a while of being trapped up there, it started to get pretty pissed off. It started to kill people on purpose whenever it was able to come out, just to traumatize Castor more. It hated Castor. HATED him.
And the fact that Castor had made friends at some point, and Fangs still wasn't allowed to talk to anyone, made it even MORE pissed. It hated Castor's friends.
But THEN Castor became a cannibal, and now that he wasn't a good person anymore, he decided... oh, what the hell. If HE was allowed to kill things, why couldn't Fangs come out and do the same?
So, Castor started letting Fangs interact with people whenever he needed a rest from the stress, pretty much sleeping inside of their head, and let Fangs take control more often! On the one condition that Fangs didn't hurt his friends. And it didn't. But it didn't like them still, it thought that Bob was a manipulative asshole and it knew about Dexter killing animals. So it still hated them lmao, especially Dexter. To be fair, those are valid reasons to hate someone though.
At this point, Fangs and Castor tolerated each other, but still didn't get along. They're starting to get to the point where they are friends!... Kinda!... A little bit... Okay, it's a very slow process-
Fun fact before I go: the only reason Fangs didn't immediately hate Donovan was because it was after Castor started letting it interact with people. Fangs and Castor had also made a mutual agreement that Donovan was hot.
That's all! Sorry for rambling so much HEJEHHEEHE
SORRY IT TOOK ME SO LONG TO ANSWER YOU CAUGHT ME SLEEPING
DAADAFDAHDDHA NOOOO, POOR FANGS, it makes sense he is so pissed with Castor tbh, hes just trying to protect him in his own way.
AND ALSO, PFFFFFT, BOTH AGREEING THAT DONOVAN IS HOT, HELP

Books read in July 2024
-Epithet Erased: Prison of Plastic by Brendan Blaber started July 1, 2024 and finished July 3, 2024 - 5/5 stars. I liked this book a lot. This was a story between two sisters and how the death of their mother affected them both. Molly’s sister has such an interesting epithet and it clashes against Molly’s. The characters we are introduced to are so interesting and I love that Giovanni came back. He truly had Molly’s interests at heart. He was incredibly supportive of both sisters which was sweet. The ending was rather cute. Molly was finally with people who truly cared about her. I hope we get more from the Epithet Erased universe. Brendan Blaber writes his characters very well. When I was reading this book I was reminded of a video he put out (JelloApocalypse is the youtube name) called “So, You’re Stuck in a Time Loop!” Due to the fact that nearly each time Molly met her sister in her dream world she would force Molly and her friends out and they would have to go back to the beginning to find their friends. It was such good shit.
-Star Trek: Deep Space Nine- The Dog of War by Mike Chen started and finished July 3, 2024- 4/5 stars. When I ordered this book I really should have realized it was a graphic novel. Graphic novels are very fast reads. It was pretty good. The illustrations were quite astounding. There were quite a lot of them with the characters and other dogs. It was cute. The story was solid. I got it because I wanted to read more of Mike Chen's stuff. His work is great.
-Thicker than Water by Mike Carey started July 3, 2024 and finished July 8, 2024 - 5/5 stars. Man I love the Felix Castor series. Didn’t care for the beginning too much but I guess the succubus character has to be reintroduced somehow. Other than that this book was quite amazing. Fix’s brother had a role in this book which means we got some family drama and shit. It’s interesting to me how “F Castor” was painted in blood on a car window and the police think its the main character who is involved. I mean the person who painted it could have been saying “Fuck Castor” right? Anyway there was a background story detailing something that happened in Felix’s childhood and I know immediately that Anita Yeats was the one married to the guy who got ripped to shreds and wrote “F Castor” on the car window. I like how Felix is good with children. I liked this book a lot. I need to buy the next book in the series at some point.
-Royal Street by Suzanne Johnson started July 8, 2024 and finished July 11, 2024- 3/5 stars. I try to read urban fantasy written by women and the main characters are women. They never hit the same as ones written by men and are about men. The setting of this book was quite interesting. New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina hit. It broke or at least damaged the border between the real world and the supernatural world. The main character’s mentor goes missing and she is on the hunt for him. It was interesting to find out that the mentor was actually her dad this entire time. This is the third or fourth urban fantasy book I have read in which the mentor is killed but the fact that it’s her dad is kind of heartbreaking. Don’t think a mentor/dad would assign their protege/daughter a mission to flirt with a magic dead pirate to trap him and bring him back to the other world.  Perhaps that will harden her in the next book. She is a wizard and gets assigned essentially a wizard cop as a partner. He is strangely protective over her. It’s a little obsessive for my tastes. He also can shapeshift into a golden retriever which he uses to essentially sleep in her house. It’s weird. His cousin appears as well. It’s a weird love triangle until he is taken by the magical creatures for some reason? I don’t know. I think I should read the second book.
-A Big Ship at the Edge of the Universe by Alex White started July 12, 2024 and finished July 16, 2024- 4/5 stars. I’m glad I kept reading past the first chapter. I was going to be pretty bored if the race car driving was going to be present in the book a lot. This book was quite interesting. Science fiction universe with space travel and all that and yet people could do magic. Not everyone has the same magic and one of the main characters can’t do magic at all. The other main character can essentially read machines with her magic. It’s fascinating. There’s also a sapphic relationship in this book which is interesting. I like how the spaceship crew essentially kidnaps the magicless character and the other character is essentially brought along for the ride. She kind of has to as she is framed for murder. They are on the hunt for a missing ship so it’s a treasure hunt. Good book overall. The library doesn’t have the sequel so oh well.
-The City of Lost Fortunes by Bryan Camp started July 16, 2024 and finished July 20, 2023- 4/5 stars. This book also takes place in New Orleans post Katrina. It’s constantly being referenced as “The Storm” which is weird and repetitive. The main character is the son of a god but it’s never revealed who it is. All sorts of gods are talked about in this book. It seems like every god from every culture exists in this book which is kind of cool but it also makes the book feel unfocused at times. The main character can find things and has powers of his own which he loses for a bit when he is essentially forced into a card game with various gods and beings who are powerful. This book has various parts which is good. In some ways this book didn’t feel like the first book of a trilogy but rather the last book as so much shit happened in it. The book became infinitely more interesting when the main character died and was resurrected in a woman’s body. She is then referred to as she. It’s quite interesting. It was essentially a murder mystery until this happened. I think the other two books are at the library so I should check them out at some point.
-The Stars Beyond edited by Charlotte Wells Llewelyn started July 20, 2024 and finished July 23, 2024- 3/5 stars. Anthology book with 6 stories about contact. I read that as first contact. I liked the first two stories a lot. The last story was pretty good too. There isn’t much to say. I like the Twilight Imperium universe. It’s quite interesting how a board game series was written into a book series.
-Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky started July 23, 2024 and finished July 27, 2024- 5/5 stars. This book has some great world and character building. I don’t usually go for 600 page books but this was given to me to read and so I didn’t feel guilty for taking quite some time to read it. The chapters about the sentient spiders were quite interesting to read. I feel bad for the human main character, being woken up from sleep every so often to some utter bullshit. For the longest time this was a 4/5 stars for me but the ending really sold me. I like that instead of complete genocide of the human race and or the spiders, the spiders essentially infected the humans with a chemical and they all work together now. Can’t wait to read more of that in the sequel.
-Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett started July 28, 2024 and finished July 31, 2024. - 4/5 stars. I needed something different after reading a longer science fiction book. I heard this book was good and I do want to read more about the fae. I like how research focused the main character is. She’s awesome. She doesn’t really read people all that well which is entertaining to read. Bit relatable. It’s quite interesting how her Cambridge coworker, Wendell Bambleby is a member of the fae and seems to care for her a lot. Based on his attitude towards everything you wouldn’t think so. There is moment in which he is saving her from fae and he chops off their heads, thinks its satisfying to do so and then rewinds time to do it again. It reminds me of something. I think something similar happened in a Stephen Blackmoore book? I’m still unsure but it’s such an intriguing moment. Didn’t think Bambleby would be capable of doing something so gruesome and powerful. Overall good book. I think I shall check out the sequel at some point.

She was born in December 1st 1896 to Henry Smith, the son of an English Romani woman and her Irish Traveller husband, and Isabel Riley, the youngest daughter of an Irish born Mexican war hero and his wealthy Spanish-Mexica wife.
She was supposed to be born December 12th, but someone had wagered ten thousand pesos that her mother could not get the next Pope to baptize her child.
So with the help of castor oil, Eva’s mother’s waters broke inside the Sistine Chapel.
While the circumstance of her birth was no coincidence, the fact that Isabel went into labor underneath God’s Creation of Eve was.
And so, the witch named the only child who inherited her gifts and all the luck in the world ---as well as the money Isabel had won with her cunning---, Eva Leonor Smith Riley.
It was that luck that kept her alive and would keep her so.
“I used to have a cacatúa with feathers like that.” She said as she stroked the feathers on his ankle wings making him groan in arousal and laugh at her words.
Eva was supposed get up and look for her clothes, but then she finally had a chance at touching his wings.
She had felt them brushing against her legs on occasion, hearing them flutter a little when they fucked.
For a moment the witch wondered if he’d take off when he came. This he had laughed at when she told him.
“What happened to it?” K’uk’ulkan asked amused and looking more disheveled than her.
His jewels and accessories had been strewn about when both god and witch gave into their lust and tore each other’s clothes off.
K’uk’ulkan was to be her first and her last, and even if she survived and lived long enough to marry, no man would ever compare to him.
“Got eaten by a black jaguar. My grandmother’s hacienda borders the jungle, and I thought I was doing a good deed by releasing it into the wild.” She answered sheepishly and he chuckled at her anecdote. “A very stupid thing to do, I know, but I was a child of nine.”
And a very odd thing to say to a man when you had done this with the intentions of taking him into your mouth, the witch thinks. Spirits, why was she even telling him this? This was supposed to be just sex.
“If you keep touching my wings like that, you won’t be able to walk for days.” He says so crudely, as if the witch didn’t want that to happen.
“You say that like it’s a bad thing, Kukul.” She smirked and lifted herself over his chest until she is just a whisper away from his mouth.
He doesn’t like the casual use of the nickname, made her call him Namor as he took her when she struggled to get pronounce his three-syllable name.
“Don’t call me that, wàay.” His hand, warm and calloused like that of a farm hand came to her neck.
She stills, but he doesn’t register that she is not comfortable with that.
Had she been different she would’ve found it erotic.
But she is Eva, and Eva has enough baggage to fill one of her family’s cargo ships.
“The last man who put his hand around my neck ended up with my hunting knife embedded in his skull.” She breathes out and he releases her, his hand moving upwards, to thread itself with her hair and pulling her to his mouth.
She doesn’t mind the hair pulling, not when she gets to pull his in return. His hair is soft, she had expected it to be coarse from the salt, but he had hair as smooth as the dandies who spend thousands of pesos in French hair products.
K’uk’ulkan kissed her deeply, he likes to kiss with tongue, taste her until she must pull him away because she can’t breathe.
He didn’t have such weakness, K’uk’ulkan was more god than man and she was his worshipper, his priestess, his witch.
“You are a dangerous one, aren’t you?” his voice alone is enough to make her come undone; he is as perfect as a lover as he was a stranger.
“You have no idea.”
He leaves without so much as a goodbye, why would he, this had just been them giving into the pull they felt towards each other.
Two lonely souls who have been drawn together just for a perfect moment.
But the witch can’t help but smile when she finds the two-strand pearl necklace forgotten under her silk robe.

(sees another fandom that I can ask you about and cheers) Orphan Black! Thoughts? I don't know Dr Who but Tatiana is one of my favorite actors period.
Anon you are so sweet! I'm always happy to chat about fandoms and characters and whatnot, and I will never not appreciate the majesty of Tatiana's acting. That is one of the greatest parts of the show hands down.
Orphan Black, to me, is a show that had incredible potential, but didn't really live up to the excitement it created. (Loooong post ahead.)
The thing is, Orphan Black builds a chilling mystery and background, the world it gradually creates as it goes for about the first two seasons, got be very invested and made me wonder a lot about where it was going to go and what the answers were. The setup is brilliant, right from the start with that iconic cold open of Beth's suicide. The unknown is what really helped this show get as thrilling as it was, because the actual answers behind the unknown were kind of hit and miss, and it seemed like far too often, the show just wasn't interested in telling it's story. Hijinks where the clones impersonate each other in slice of life events? That's fun at first and it really works well as they're still getting to know each other. But after a while, it gets tedious, and it seems like the show would rather fuck around and have dance parties (seriously, that scene was such a #BigLippedAlligatorMoment) than focus on the story and the threat that the sisters are facing. Virtually all of Allison's plotlines are like this, they feel like they belong in a different show, and for some reason the writers insisted on giving her one of these storylines like, every season. After Allison passively murders her own friend out of suspecting that she's spying on her, I just don't feel like an arc about her running for some PTA office position even matters. It doesn't feel right.
Speaking of that, here's another example: Donnie. Why did the end of the first season suggest that he was this secret mastermind working for Leekie? The whole idea just deflates in Season 2 and doesn't really go anywhere. He just goes back to being the bumbling sweetheart he was before. Why even have him be the spy? Maybe it should have been Ainsley. Do you want to know the exact moment that I think Orphan Black went wrong? Like, the specific scene? When Leekie was killed off. The character who had thus far been the Big Bad, gets taken out in the stupidest possible way, a literal accident on Donnie's part, and it's even played for laughs. After that point, the show really struggled to regain it's footing, though I don't think it completely went off the rails until about Season 4, and it was still generally hit or miss. Like, some stuff was really good. The introduction of the Castor clones, the development of Rachel's character (I'll get to her, trust me.) and the reveal of Kendall Malone. But it seemed like so much else was just forgotten or otherwise not resolved. Whatever happened to Cal? Sure, the show wanted to focus on the sisters...but Kira deserves to know her father if she wants to. That's just one example. It's a crying shame because this show is sometimes incredible. The metaphor that I always use for situations like this, is a card game. The show has all the right cards in its hand, they're just not being played.
The two strongest characters, at least to me, were Rachel and Helena. One of these characters was superbly written and went through a devastating arc. The other was Helena. We need to talk about her. In Season 1, she really cemented herself as a memorable presence with her trademark accent, her scars, her whole damn personality (again, hats off to Tatiana) and of course, that iconic screechy theme music that accompanied her. Which at first made us jump, but eventually made us cheer. I adored Helena, and I loved the development of her relationship with Sarah. Who went from shooting her in Season 1, to being deadset on rescuring her in Season 3, being furious with Siobhan for betraying her. (This is unrelated but Siobhan has the same " twist villain fakeout" at the end of Season 1 that Donnie does, and it's quite frustrating.) And yet, I swear, the writers just didn't know what to do with Helena half the time. They put her on a bus for long stretches, including one point where she just up and leaves Allison's house in Season 4, for no given reason. And the characters just kind of...don't care. The same thing happens when she gets arrested. No one cares to try and find Helena, even though she's unstable and often a danger to those around her. Even though she's by herself with no real ability to function in society. Even though she's pregnant. There is no excuse for this, and no Sarah, that "I'm sorry, I avoided you" scene in Season 5 is not going to cut it. It's such an afterthought.
I'm being rather critical, but I hope you can tell that this is from a point of passion. I genuinely enjoyed this show and getting to watch it. Just that sometimes it didn't feel like the show cared that I was watching. However, this was not true whenever Rachel was onscreen. Look, I'm a Merula Snyde stan, so you can probably already guess how I feel about Rachel. Despite her crimes, despite her constant slipping back the dark side, I felt so bad for Rachel at the end of it all. That scene with Kira really sums it up. "Who hurt you?" "All of them." And no scene is more intense than when she stabs out the eye cam. Like, I'm sorry, I pitied Rachel pretty much from Season 2 on. Her parents were horrible to her, and I'm supposed to think Ethan is the good guy here? He kills himself in front of his own daughter, telling her that she doesn't deserve him. And then Sarah shoots a pencil through her eye, causing brain damage and requiring a long recovery. I'm not saying that Sarah was wrong to do what she did, just that if I were in her shoes, I'd still feel a degree of guilt for Rachel's condition. In the end, I'm devastated that she was barred from Clone Club, when she made the right decision at the point it mattered. But there's just too much history there, and Sarah won't ever forgive her. (Though again, I do feel as though there's blame to share.) Rachel is my favorite character and I never expected her to be. But she's just so complex. Side note: "Enjoy your oophorectomy" is so damn quotable. I don't know why but I love that line.
So, Rachel's my favorite. Who's my least favorite? It might surprise you. It's Delphine. I'm sorry, but I just...I couldn't get on board with C*phine. Not after Season 3. I was waiting for the point that the show would push to finally redeem Delphine for her turncoat role, for all of the hell that she put Cosima through. By Season 5 though? I realized that as far as the writers were concerned? She already was redeemed. Even though she did nothing to earn it, except be presumed dead by Cosima. The way she treats Cosima in Season 3 is actually disgusting. Her reasoning for breaking up with Cosima is circular. She has to love "all the clones" in order to be with Cosima, and the way to do that is to take over Rachel's job, which means they can't date anymore? I'm not the only one who thought that didn't make sense, right? Oh and let's talk about how she stalks Cosima's date, breaks into her house, and threatens her life. Red. Flags. Cosima even says the line, "If you're not going to be with me, just let me go." I'm sorry, that should not be something she has to beg for. Delphine's behavior made me want her to stay far, far away from Cosima. Who is, incidentally, a sweetie and I absolutely adore her. I legit have trouble remembering that Tatiana's playing her because she just looks and acts so different. That said, even though I immensely disliked Delphine, I am so very glad that they made one of the clones gay. Just like I'm glad that they made one of them trans. (Though...Tony wasn't handled especially well.)
In general, I do think the earlier seasons were stronger. The Brightborn arc, while interesting, didn't really contribute much to the overarching narrative. We got the backstory on Beth's suicide and finally learned the truth about her, I suppose. Still, even though Beth is one of my favorite of the clones, and I never expected her to be either...I feel like the actual reason given for why she took her own life was rather illogical. She apparently did it because the investigation was putting the clones in danger of another Helsinki. Okay, but just because Evie Cho says you should off yourself, doesn't mean you have to. You could just, like...stop investigating. And if you die under mysterious circumstances without explaining anything to the sisters, they're not going to be put off from the investigation. They're going to look into this even more, because they don't know why they're not supposed to. The reveal that she and Art fell in love toward the end adds an extra gut punch, but it also doesn't make sense because wouldn't Art have referenced it during the period that he thought Sarah was Beth? On the other hand, Season 4 also introduced MK. And I have such a soft spot for her. I adore that sheep-masked sweetie. Everyone always asks "Which clone would you date" (because fandoms can think of nothing else I guess) and I never see anyone give any love to MK. Her death absolutely tore me apart. I am glad Siobhan avenged her even if she went down at the same time. Side note, her last word being the affectionate "Chickens..." Broke me.
Season 5 was a strange beast. In general, it seemed like we were finally getting some answers to the questions that were hanging over us. Exploring the deep mythos. But then they kind of turned it around and made it just be a Wizard of Oz style fraud twist. Westmoreland isn't really inhumanly old, he's a charlatan. I don't know why that was necessary in a science fictional show. I've seen the interviews and I get what they were going for, it just feels like it would have been cooler and far creepier if he was actually that old. The puppet master pulling the strings the whole time. We also finally get some answers for Kira's superhuman healing abilities (though we never learn how she's telepathically connected to the clones) and I'm loving it, but the trouble is, it's inconsistent. Ethan "Why is this guy so popular, he's an asshole" Duncan told Rachel specifically that Sarah being able to have children was a fluke, that the clones were "barren by design." I don't know, the whole concept of Revival and of the "magical island" was really foreboding and tied in with the earlier references to The Island of Doctor Moreau. Especially that song about "Revival's Children" just...the shudders, man. But just having it be a regular old scam is...a letdown. I know it may be more realistic, but I don't always need realism in my scifi. The finale is interesting, in that it's mostly an epilogue. I'm glad the clones (sans Rachel) got to live happily ever after, but there are two gut punches right at the end that are total nitpicks but they bother me. Helena naming her kids after Art and Donnie? And writing a memoir that she names "Orphan Black?" Those two tropes can go die in a hole. They can enjoy an oophorectomy, because I'm so sick of them.
The potential of Orphan Black was practically infinite. The results of Orphan Black fell frustratingly short.

!Tower of Nero Spoilers!
My thoughts on the final book!
First of all, let me just say I loved Apollo’s character development! It’s was thing that shined thoughout the series. He started out as this cocky, self-centered god to this warm, compassionate, empathic person who felt so much more human. He really did keep Jason’s promise
Meg is an absolute badass! The fact that she went to go face Nero, her abuser, the guy he killed her dad and a feared ruler, a QUEEN
There were so many parallels between Apollo’s abuse and Meg’s abuse
If I’m being honest, I like many others didn’t like Meg in the beginning but now I love her so much. One of my favorite characters in the Riordanverse now.
LUGUSELWA IS AWESOME, little sus at first but AWESOME
FUCK NERO
I FUCKING HATE HIM
GETTING A 8 YEAR-OLD TO CUT OF LU’S HAND. HE’S SO MANIPULATIVE TOO!
Loved how Luguselwa was Meg’s parental figure, she deserves that so much in her life
Also Meg and Apollo’s sibling relationship was just *chef’s kiss*. Love them so much
SALLY AND PAUL
PAUL BLOFIS IS ONE OF THE BEST MORTALS IN THIS SERISE
Such a caring guy, letting Meg, Lu and Apollo rest at his house even if it puts his family in danger is just wow!
Estelle is adorable. I know a lot of people are commenting on her sea-green eyes but what if Posiden blessed her and she got some water powers and the eyes
Estelle will run the world when she’s older
Also Sally Jackson, a godesss!
SOLANGELO
Love these two!
Just yeah!
WILLIAM ANDREW SOLACE
Also GLOWING WILL
WILL’S ALSO A STAR WARS GEEK
THE SUN TATTOO
Will Solace is an underrated badass and this book really showed it.
The fact that this book really showed Nico’s PTSD is so sad yet at the same time shows how much this kid has gone through so much and can overcome anything
This book shows Nico’s character development and how far he’s come from the first series. Just wow.
The reaction to Jason’s death just broke me
Will + Nico + Rachel friendship/trio gives me life!
Also Rachel comment that if she spills paint on Nico it will ruin his aesthetic
RACHEL ELIZABETH DARE IS A GODESS
The iconic plastic blue hairbrush has returned.
Also that Kane Chronicles reference, now I need a crossover!
Can we just say that Dionysus is the best godly parent, actually rasing Pollux and Castor! Also him helping Nico with his PTSD.
The next generation of campers coming to camp made me emotional. I remember reading about the different campers in PJO and HOO such as Clarisse, Chris, Travis, Conner, Katie, Pollux, Jake Mason, Nyssa, and Malcolm, even Rachel. All these characters who moved on and are off to college. Yeah I’m salty we didn’t get any apperences of them but it was nice to see that their living there lives. Imagine surviving two wars and thinking that your not going to live past sixteen and they did.
These new campers coming in just shows that the cycle of demigods is continuing and there’s a new generation. These campers reminded me of the new fans who are being recently introduced to this amazing book series. Most of the old fans are in highschool and college, growing up and living there lives.
I’m kinda disapponted we didn’t get like a huge battle like Battle of Manehatten but honestly we can’t expect every battle to be like that.
The Apollo and Python battle 10/10 tho
Also Styx, that entire scene gave me chills
Who else cried over an arrow
I’m shocked that Rick didn’t kill anyone like we all expected it but I’m happy no one died
Jason, that entire scene had me sobbing. He was one of my favorite characters and this really shows that not all heroes get happy ending but I don’t consider that death canon
Chapter 32 poem chapter title was a reference to Hamilton, Rick was not being slick at all
Love how Apollo didn’t get a love insterest or end up with Meg! It really show that love can be platonic and this series focused on Apollo’s development
This book felt so real with Apollo’s guilt over Jason, Meg’s abuse and Nico’s PTSD. Well done for a kid’s book that normally can’t touch on these subject.

i had planned forever ago to make a full fan soundtrack for AW (fic) but then never finished it/lost in interest in trying to find songs, so i figured instead that i would just share the songs tht were as insp for me while writing AW instead!! bc hey, why not lol. im just listing these in order on my playlist BUT im also gonna give context as to why these songs were insp if/when possible which will have spoilers to AW but tbh im assuming if ur traversing this blog u’ve already read it gkjhg. songs listed under the cut!!
-kira
ok so this was being written when i was like. rlly into hadestown & i kept making connections between the story & the songs sOOOOO we’re gonna list all the hadestown songs first gkjfhg
Doubt Comes In (mostly for the scene prior to sam’s revival, where max is questioning if he’ll even get him back)
Epic II (sort of like a song to depict max’s feelings of isolation & anger toward sam growing distant from him over the years)
Wait For Me (BIG song for sam whenever max loses his brain......)
Hey, Little Songbird (this song reminds me of the scene where skunkape’s trying to convince max to side w/ him ok)
Chant (Reprise) (listened to this song w/ the mental image of everyone pulling together to make their final move (primarily whenever sam’s fighting skunkape/trying to stop the maimtron to save max) & also specifically imagined this w/ sam as orpheus, superego as eurydice & skunkape as hades so ✌)
Epic III (takes place aFTER sam gets revived & idk i associate this w/ sam confessing that he got scared of losing max & that he let it consume him to the point of it damaging their relationship & apologizing to max for kinda neglecting him)
Wait For Me (Reprise) (u know damn well this happens between sam & superego before sam goes to stop the maimtron from killing max)
ok now we’re done w/ hadestown here’s some other songs now lmaO
I Will Follow You Into The Dark - Death Cab For Cutie (during the scene w/ sam & superego as sam’s fading away........idk im emo 😔)
I’d Give Anything - Tangled (sam song, specifically during the week or so when max is a monster & he misses him a lot)
Far Away - Tyga (I ASSOCIATE THis mostly with the part where sam finds out max had his brain removed, actually the pic for tht part is named after this song lmao)
I Bet My Life - Imagine Dragons (overall just a sam song, more leaning to right before he goes to skunkape’s ship to stop the maimtron)
Caraphernelia - Pierce The Veil (max song, post-breaking up w/ sam. it’s his angry break-up song basicall y gkJKHGKJGH)
Sleepwalking - Elliot Lee (also a max song, upset abt his rocky relationship w/ sam :( )
Better Than Me - Hinder (SAM SONG, lamenting abt the fact tht he realizes its mostly his fault tht him & max broke up & how he believes max deserves better than him. mostly during the week where max is mia bc Giant Monster)
Come Hang Out - AJR (this is mostly pre-AW but it kinda fits w/ sam progressively growing more distant bc he’s trying so hard to be careful)
Zombie - Damned Anthem (not really fitting for anything tbh but i DID listen to this song while writing skunkape attacking max & it WAS almost the trailer song as well so there’s that lol)
Sink or Swim - Castor Troy (i think is insp primarily bc of /scourgadow’s awesome s&m edits but i do remember listening to it on a loop while writing sam going through his ‘trial’ for the chthonic destroyer)
Main Theme - Pacific Rim (associate this a lot w/ the overall part when max is a monster)
Miracle - The Score (hhEY i’ve rbed this song on this blog before gkjfhgj. yeah this is a sam song, specifically during the week when max is a monster)
A Violent Encounter & Revived Power - Chris Baines (u already know damn well what this is for but i’ll say it anyway; whenever sammy’s scaling maxthulu. shadow of the elder god babey /j)
The Forgotten Children - Aranzazu Calleja (its the trailer sonnngggggg)
Army of One - Shelby Merry (i think i listened to this on a loop at some point, & also its a girl stinky song)
Saving Metroville - The Incredibles (put this bad boy on a loop while writing sam & stinky going up against skunkape bc it is, in my opinion, one of the hardest hitting final fight osts)
Happier - Marshmello ft. Bastille (sam song, specifically for the beginning chapter when he decides to break up w/ max bc all theyre doing is fighting....)
Trying to Save Stitch - Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch (this is during the part when max is transforming into a monster!!!!)

Do you have any headcanons about Pollux? What happened to him after his brother died? Was he around during the Giant War? I’ve rarely seen anyone write about him.
He is a year older than Chris and Beckendorf, which makes him two years older than Clarisse and Silena.
He had already gotten into NYU and was planning on attending after the summer of the Battle of the Labyrinth. But after his brother and Lee died, he deferred for a year to heal.
(I’ve written about this before), but he and Lee were dating. They had been for a while. And obviously Castor was his brother. He was devastated after they died. He spent two weeks in a drunken stupor, before Dionysus returned him to his mother in Brooklyn.
His mother is a Rabbi. She handled the death of her son as well as a mother could be expected to, but she tried to stay strong for Pollux.
One of the things that helped her through was a phone chain between other demigod parents. It was started by Clarisse’s mom and Chris’s mom after they found Chris. Pollux’s mom, because she was a religious leader close to camp, ended up taking over the phone line as the central arbiter. Silena’s dad, Sally, and a number of other demigod parents end up joining. They have a phone chain and an email chain to support each other through these tough events. (this is also how Sally ends up attending Clarisse’s mother’s wedding.)
Pollux spends the school year taking dance classes. He’d always been a singer and actor. He wasn’t a bad dancer, but he never cared about it as much, but it became hard to sing and act after losing Castor and Lee, so he started to dance. He really started to excel because it was all he had.
It took him a few months to really, fully forgive Chris after he was healed, but he did. Even though he hadn’t forgiven him yet, Pollux was the one who convinced his father to save him.
He chose to go back to camp for the Titan war. His brother and partner had died for the cause, and he was going to do his part too. His mother was devastated by his choice.
When he survived but Beckendorf didn’t, he didn’t know how he was suppose to carry on. He felt lucky that he was going to live with Chris at least. That’s when their relationship really started to rebuild.
He also started to become friends with Clarisse then, because she would go into the city a couple of weekends a month to see Chris, and they would all hang out.
Then in April, Clarisse committed to Arizona State, and she broke up with Chris. Chris was devastated by the break up, and Pollux (ride or die for his friends) really grew to resent and hate her for what she did for them.
Neither he nor Chris fought in the Giant War, choosing safety over obligation.
In October, Clarisse reached out to Chris to talk, and Pollux tried to keep him from engaging, but Chris didn’t listen.  It didn’t take long for Chris to learn that Clarisse’s grandfather had died and left behind some money, enough for her to justify the cost of living in New York.
She was moving back to the city, but it wasn’t clear if she wanted to get back together with him. Pollux advised against it, thinking that it would just be bad for him.
At one point, Chris floated the idea of asking her to move in with them, but Pollux told him: “Don’t ask her to move in with us unless you know she wants to get back together with you.”
Chris then went and asked her to move in with them without knowing if she wanted to get back together.
Clarisse, while not the most emotionally vulnerable, has always been the braver of the two, and did ask if he wanted to get back together, so then it was settled: she’d move in, and they’d start dating.
Pollux was thrilled (just kidding, no he wasn’t.)
He is really distrusting of Clarisse for the first month she’s there. He hasn’t forgiven her for hurting his friend, and he doesn’t trust her not to do it again.
Then, one night Chris is out at work, and the two of them finally split a bottle of wine and have a heart to heart.
Pollux: “I don’t understand how you would just willingly give someone up for no good reason.”
Clarisse: “I couldn’t stand the thought of just drifting apart from him slowly because of distance.”
P: “Fuck distance. You think I wouldn’t give anything to have one day, no matter how distant with Lee? Or my brother?”
C; “Of course I understand! My best friend died in my arms! Boyfriend, brother, best friend; they’re all different kinds of love, sure, but they can all have the same intensity.  I couldn’t lose him unexpectedly. I ... I had to be in control of that moment. That moment where I say ‘this has to end,’ and I cut the relationship off like some gangrenous limb.” She took a deep breath and started to cry. Pollux had been crying quietly since he brought up his brother and Lee. “But I was wrong. I love him. I’ve always loved him. And I’m not going anywhere this time. I’m not asking you to like me. I’m not even asking you to respect me. I’m just hoping that maybe you understand me?”
They got along better after that conversation.

What do all of these  People have in Common.... They all come from the Capitol...
As I am rereading the series again... this never hit me before. How much Katniss Hated the captiol and everyone in it... She wanted nothing to do with them. ( Like wanted them to know nothing about her life). She was Disguested at the fact the get pump up for the games ( like anyone would for a sporting event or something you truely get excited for).. She lables the people in the capitol  That they are all bad guys, Doing the Worst crime possible... ( Prior Games)...
Then she meets her prep Team and realizes that they are actually trying to help her  stand a chance.  But still was on edge a little bit with them.. Katniss Realized okay they are pretty much brainwashed into enjoying these games.. And like she just couldn’t hate  on them because they just look so silly and talk that way. Catching Fire... They way they treated her mother with respect  Katniss Felt a guilty for the way she labled them... Then later on in the books  her prep team is crying tears over her and there goodbye... ( Katniss says something like how  this literally is breaking her heart).. Then in the book of Mockingjay they are “rescuded and put in jail in district 13 for the fact they stole a piece of bread or something like that. In that moment  Katniss was like oh hell no she defended her prep team... even tho it took them a little bit of time to gang there trust to her again... But over all  she realized they are actually good people...
Effie the Escort of the games.... Katniss would make fun of  her acent and really since Effie was just the escort Katniss didn’t really value her opinion early on. Tho I don’t think Katniss ever Hated her.  Trust took a while tho. She was in the same boat as everyone else in the capitol tho .In catching fire ( this  broke my heart) At the reaping Effie thats when I think it hit Katniss Efffie Genuinely cares about Katniss and Peeta... ( Not the next Party not the wedding).. From that point Effie managed to break my heart a few more other times... Another was before the Interviews ( In the movies not sure if this was in the books) When Effie tells Katniss she would be the most Beautiful Bride and says lets show them what real beauty looks like... and then the Goodbyes from Effie.  This is when I persoanlly had a whole new respect for Effie. ( During these times).  In Mockingjay In the book shes not in it until the very end of the book. In the movie she has a bigger role...When she is talking to Plutarch  she feels so bad for Katniss all shes been through and tells him that She cannot be replaced... So when she Meets Katniss again. Katniss  doesn’t hesitate to hug her. and is happy to see her..  Another thing I noticed after Snow Dropped off the roses and Katniss is having the Meltdown.. She tells them we should turn off the cameras... ( I thought personally such a sweet Moment)... At the End of the movie. When Katniss is on her way home... What Effie said to Katniss (Also broke my heart) Katniss knew that Effie was like a friend to her almost family who truely cares about her...
Cinna. The moment she met Cinna she liked him right off the bat.  and he hasn’t Dispointed her. She saw Cinna was not only going to help her look good. She saw him as someone who will help her get through interviews Help her have a actual chance in these games...  In fact she calls him a friend even. She also feels alot safe when he’s around and doesn’t want to Disappoint him.  When he said I am not allowed to bet but if I could I’d bet on you... That moment Katniss realized that he genuinely Beileves she can win this thing... Her outfits Tell a story. Girl on Fire.  Wont Go down without a fight...Made her  unforgettable... Catching Fire... He helped Katniss with her talent and Katniss enjoyed this since it meant talking to Cinna. By this point no question they are friends ( Katniss has a friend in the capitol). The Wedding Dress to Mockingjay “Chef kiss”.. ( By that point there was this rebel plot and Katniss was nammed the Mockingjay of it but She had no idea yet...) So Cinna did her a huge favor in helping her. Knowing it would result in his death...  Mockingjay even tho he was dead i personally felt he was there all along. Making her the mockingjay suit  adding all these little details making it perfect. Over all I personally love Cinna. ( he said I only show what I feel in my work so he hurts no one but himself...) I love that line... And he was hte one who really truely helped Katniss no matter what,,,
Plutarch. Katniss never Fully trusts him... He is the head gamemaker and rebel too.. So Katniss said  she ranks the Gamemakers somewhere between maggots in the terms of creatures she wants in contract with her skin.. ( Also anyone remember whem Katniss shot the arrow at  the gamemakers and one fell in the punch bowl yeah that was Plutarch. So over all basically slowly once hes found out to be the rebel.. after the break into the arena... Katniss sorta slowly trusts him ( I am however a little rusty on Mockingjay tho) I want to add right here. I know that in the movies. He was suppose to be added in a lot more but since Philip Seymour Hoffman death they did  the movie beautifully. ( Did you know that they had a meeting with Suzanne Collins about what to do.. She said Haymtich should bring Katniss the letter and read it)...
Cressida.Messalla, Pollux and Castor.. Katniss Film crew in District 13...  Katniss. really didn’t put them in the lable... tho I don’t recall her trusting them right off the bat.. at this point tho  the Capitol lable is thrown out the window if your in district 13... ( I personally forgot they were from the capitol)
Over all during the series Katniss Realized not all people in the capitol are bad... not all from from there. she had a new respect for  people after her first games. she realized well  that the games are made in a way that it makes people want to watch the games... and like Katniss opens up a whole new door to them..

pjo & co
send me a series & i’ll tell you:  @badmusesdoitwell
Favorite character: lou ellen blackstone, definitely. always and forever and always. she has so much potential! so many family members are mentioned throughout the books! lou ellen is a treasure trove that the author never really got into! her brother is one of the strongest children of their mother, if not the strongest and he chose kronos’ side, led his army, and led a lot of his siblings to an early grave. and lou ellen canonically fought for / with the demigod camp! there could be something there! did she hate him? did she renounce him? does she still love him? percy and annabeth canonically met circe! pjo!circe is related to lou ellen! that could’ve been a connection! reyna was one of circe’s attendants! that could’ve been a connection! piper met (and fought) medea! pjo!medea is (distantly) related to lou ellen! that could’ve been a connection too! hazel is literally lou ellen’s mom’s chosen champion! how does lou ellen deal with that?! does hazel know that lou ellen’s mom has children in the greek demigod camp? nico canonically knows her / knows of her (as she, will, cecil and nico himself briefly make up #team onager) but do we know if he ever spoke of her while he visited hazel? nope, we don’t! how did she become a cabin counselor? was she the oldest and did she get the job by default? did the other surviving children of cabin twenty pick her because they thought her to be suited for the job? lou ellen’s gimmick is literally turning people into pigs through pig bombs and she never met circe???!?!!! circe who turned people into animals???!!! circe who would’ve glowed with pride - i assume - because her baby sister favors the same type of magic that she does?!!! i probably shouldn’t have assumed that she’d be in the books more than she was because she’s a minor character but she’s descended from the titans! why does that not mean anything in canon?! her maternal granddad’s ephitet is literally ‘the destroyer’ and you mean to tell me that she doesn’t have some seriously strong powers?! dang if she couldn’t have been the string that ties everything together. dang if she couldn’t have met carter and sadie. and magnus. so much wasted potential. sometimes it makes me sad. scratch ‘sometimes’. it makes me sad. she could’ve been so much more. i’m glad i get to do that for her.
Second favorite character: (castor and) pollux. they’re both children of dionysus and they’re named after the original dioscuri and the author never did anything with them and they didn’t get to meet their half brother, dakota, and i’m mad forever. i’m sorry but they deserved a spin off too. like, i’m sorry but i call bs on the fact that they didn’t get - excuse my language - shit. look i know that pollux was a couple of years older than percy, and i know that he couldn’t have been part of the seven, but wouldn’t it have been glorious if he was? (wouldn’t it have been extra glorious if lou ellen was, too?) wouldn’t it have been absolutely super duper amazing to see him talk to the roman aspect of his father, to show off his vine powers? i know that one of the pegasi called pollux’s father ‘the wine dude’ but that’s so disrespectful because, like, his father is more than just the wine dude and pollux is more than that too. pollux who has the power to cause or cure madness - i assume, because once again, he didn’t get anything in canon except a dead twin, a dead half brother and a nameless mom who we don’t know anything about! pollux who broke his favored hand in battle and said: ‘fuck that, i’ll fight with my other one instead!’ and he would’ve if percy hadn’t made him sit it out as per pollux’s dad’s request.  and also alabaster c. torrington, for the reasons outlined above. also: josephine (who is also related to alabaster and lou ellen) and emmie. also: katie gardner and miranda gardiner and sherman yang (i do so ship sherranda and i want to know how / when they got together!) and basically every minor character in that series. i’m sorry, i’m mad again. i’m always gonna be mad.
Least favorite character: idk kronos, i think?
The character I’m most like: malcolm pace. i’m quiet and i like books too.
Favorite pairing: seeing as i’m all about the minor characters, i’m gonna say one (1) thing and that is: pollou. i’ve shipped pollux and lou ellen since 2012 / 2013 and i’m still doing it. i don’t care if they haven’t met in canon. they’re soulmates to me. (also in my head, miranda was lou ellen’s first girlfriend and then they broke up.)
Least favorite pairing: circe / her island going under. medea / death (yes i know she did horrible evil stuff but like. couldn’t she have died after meeting lou ellen? :P)
Favorite moment: every moment lou ellen was in the books.
Rating out of 10: ten out of ten because i grew up on it. however, it’s not perfect and i can readily admit it.
