I'll be honest, I'm not entirely sure about the names I've given. There are multiple ways to do a crochet provisional CO and multiple ways to do a provisional CO over a cable or piece of scrap yarn, and they don't seem to have different names. So some of the options may actually describe more than one technique. (I know of at least three ways to do Judy's Magic CO.) If people want, I can try to find photographs illustrating the different techniques.

Please give more info in the tags or comments! Also I'd love to hear your reasons for why you like or dislike a particular technique.

I sometimes treat myself to something fun for my birthday. This year my car got some long overdue maintenance work, and I will be replacing tires next week. So this year, this yarn is my Fun gift to myself. (This, and a black t-shirt with the “Now I am become Death…” quote done in pink Barbie font.)

This is hand dyed 100% Merino wool yarn from a small batch dyer, and the minute I saw this colorway—inspired by, of course, BARBIE, and called “Ken-ergy”—it made me laugh.

I have two skeins, my plan is for another Framework Bralette, and it will be the brightest thing in my whole wardrobe. Eh-ver. This will be perfect to wear the time of year when it’s cold and sundown is at 4pm and I’m wearing all black everything…except this.

I was rambling on the issue of museums and human remains and how certain populations are more likely to have their bodies put on display to be gawked at and then went "well I guess the Pompeii casts were of Europeans. there are bones in there right?" and Googled it to make sure, at which point I confirmed that yes there are bones in there, but more interestingly DNA testing revealed that a cast of an adult holding a child everyone assumed was a mother and child were, in fact, a man and a kid entirely unrelated to him. Honestly that's more moving to me. Maybe they were connected in a way other than blood, but maybe a stranger saw a child when the world was ending and thought the one thing he could do was hold them.

Swatched some stretchy cast-ons and bind-offs for 1x1 ribbing for a pair of leg warmers:

Left to right, top to bottom:

Alternating German twisted CO, sewn BO.

Double-tail long-tail CO (should have done alternating but didn't think of it), super stretchy crochet BO (basically Jeny's surprisingly stretchy BO but done with a crochet hook).

Latvian CO, Latvian BO.

Bulgarian CO, Kitchener/Italian BO.

I suspect I will go with swatch #4: the cast-on is pretty, and the bind off doesn't flare.

i drunkenly scheduled a friendly brawl with an acquaintance of mine and we both completely forgot about it. that is until we were sitting next to each other in class and both of us get google calendar alert that reads VIOLENCE AGAINST LEW i about lost my fucking mind. what do you mean violence against me.

and then i fucking remembered i completely shitfaced told him to send me an invite to the brawl and even more that i insisted to type something into the notes of the meeting to make it look "less worse" and he opens the invite and it just says PREMEDITATED. most sinister calendar event ever created i laughed so hard i cried
