Rules: in a text post, list ten books that have stayed with you in some way. don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard — they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just the ones that have touched you.
I was tagged by @philosophicalparadox!
1. Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief- It’s the book that started it all for me. I wouldn’t be the reader that I am today if I didn’t pick up the Lightning Thief during my third grade class’ monthly trip to the school library. I love Percy and the world the Rick Riordan created and I’ll continue to love it.
2. The Poppy War- I was in a serious reading slump prior to reading The Poppy War, so devouring it all up in nearly one day and ordering the next book in the trilogy right after was a welcome surprise for me. This book reignited my love for reading and the historical fantasy genre.
3. The Name of the Wind- If there’s one thing I love, it’s a hard and heavy fantasy book. Reading The Name of the Wind for the first time inspired me to finally open up a Google doc and write my first ever fic. I love its prose and how we’re in and out of Kvothe’s head throughout the book. Whenever I agonize over the fact that the Doors of Stone hasn’t been released, I reread The Name of the Wind to remind me that the wait will be worth it.
4. Mo Dao Zu Shi- You could say that I’m cheating with this choice but it is technically a singular novel broken up into smaller volumes. Where do I even begin with MDZS? I have yet to really fully read the official translation as I’ve already read the “official” fan translation, but I will say, reading that Exiled Rebels translation over the span of three hot and sticky summer night, completely in the darkness of my room, was one of the best reading experiences ever. I adore the rich world that MXTX built, from the sect politics to the admittedly loose laws of demonic cultivation. Wangxian is a couple that I love very dearly and I have yet to read a danmei novel that just grips me by the soul like they do. I was introduced to the danmei genre through this novel as well, and I couldn’t be happier that it was my first.
5. One Last Stop- This is my favorite of Casey McQuiston’s books. It’s a super cute and emotional sapphic book that fell into my lap at the exact same time that I was beginning to explore my sexuality and for that, it holds a very special place in my heart.
6. Fool’s Fate- This quote and this quote alone is enough reasoning as to why I love this book so much: “I pushed his golden hair back from his tawny forehead. ‘Oh, Beloved’ I said. I bent and kissed his brow in farewell. And then, grasping the rightness of that foreign tradition, I named him as myself. For when I burned him, I knew that I would be ending myself as well. The man I had been would not survive this loss.”
7. The Silmarillion- Unironically my favorite of Tolkien’s works, partly because the maiar and elves are hella gay and partly because I really like reading a fun history book from The Professor himself.
8. The Hunger Games- It still stands as the best YA book I’ve ever read and I’ll happily reread it every year
9. The Tombs of Atuan- My favorite book of the Earthsea Cycle and arguably my favorite book from Ursula Le Guin. Tenar is just such a touching protagonist and her relationship with Ged is seriously sweet. I also really liked how Le Guin further built upon the world of Earthsea in this book.
10. The Way of Kings- Everyone has that one book that they wish they could forget about just to reread it again and The Way of Kings is that book for me
Tagging: @abyssalpeach @seaofolives, @beansterpie, and @marley-manson

Why Lactobacillus Could Be Your Gut’s Worst Enemy if You Have Histamine Intolerance
When I first started noticing symptoms of histamine intolerance, I did what any hopeful optimist would do: I marched to the nearest health store and grabbed every probiotic bottle with the word “healthy” slapped on it. Turns out, I might as well have been throwing histamine grenades into my gut. My symptoms got worse, and I felt like I was living inside a biology experiment gone wrong.
If you’re scratching your head (or your hives) wondering why probiotics aren’t working for your histamine intolerance, you’re not alone. The issue often lies with lactobacillus, that well-meaning but sometimes problematic genus of bacteria. This guide will explain how lactobacillus can sabotage your histamine intolerance recovery, why balance is the key to gut health, and what you should focus on instead to finally feel better.
Meet Your Gut’s MVPs (and the Troublemakers)
Lactobacillus: The Frenemy
Lactobacillus is like the friend who means well but always seems to stir up drama. Sure, it’s great at breaking down food, supporting immunity, and keeping pathogens at bay. But some strains (L. reuteri, L. casei, and L. bulgaricus) have a dark side—they produce histamine, the last thing your body needs more of if you’re already struggling with histamine intolerance.
Bifidobacterium: The Peacekeeper
Now, bifidobacterium is the bacterial best friend you need. It doesn’t just sit around doing the bare minimum—it actively breaks down histamine, calms inflammation, and helps repair your gut lining. If your microbiome were a sports team, bifidobacterium would be the MVP.
Akkermansia: The Silent Guardian
Akkermansia is like the bouncer at the door of your gut lining, making sure nothing shady gets through. It boosts mucin production, which keeps your gut barrier strong and resilient. Without it, your gut becomes a free-for-all for histamine and inflammation.
How Lactobacillus Turns Against You
1. It’s a Histamine Factory
Some lactobacillus strains convert the amino acid histidine into histamine as part of their natural metabolism. Think of them as the gut’s version of overachievers—producing way more histamine than you can handle. If you’ve ever taken a probiotic and felt worse, this could be why.
2. It Wakes Up the Mast Cells
Mast cells are like your immune system’s fire alarms, ready to go off at the slightest hint of trouble. Some lactobacillus strains don’t just nudge these alarms—they set them blaring. This leads to more histamine release and even more inflammation.
3. It Takes Over the Microbiome
Lactobacillus can hog all the real estate in your gut, leaving no room for other beneficial bacteria like bifidobacterium and akkermansia. When this happens, your gut microbiome loses its balance, and histamine intolerance symptoms worsen.
4. It’s an Acidic Overachiever
Lactobacillus produces lactic acid, which is great in moderation. But too much lactic acid lowers your gut’s pH, creating the perfect environment for pathogens like Candida albicans to thrive. It’s like throwing a party and inviting all the wrong guests.
5. It Mimics SIBO
Too much lactobacillus in the small intestine can lead to small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO)-like symptoms. If you’ve ever felt bloated and miserable after eating, excessive lactobacillus might be to blame.
6. It Worsens Leaky Gut
Lactobacillus overgrowth produces inflammatory byproducts like histamine and lactic acid, which can irritate the gut lining and lead to increased gut permeability (a.k.a. leaky gut). This allows toxins and undigested food particles to sneak into your bloodstream, triggering immune reactions.
7. It Steals Your DAO Nutrients
Your body needs nutrients like vitamin B6, zinc, and magnesium to produce diamine oxidase (DAO), the enzyme that breaks down histamine. Lactobacillus overgrowth can deplete these nutrients, leaving you with even less histamine-fighting power.
8. It Messes With Your Brain
Histamine isn’t just a gut issue—it’s also a neurotransmitter. Too much histamine can lead to neurological inflammation, causing anxiety, depression, and brain fog. Studies even show higher levels of lactobacillus in people with mental health disorders like bipolar disorder, PTSD, and schizophrenia.
How to Balance Your Microbiome for Histamine Intolerance Relief
Focus on Bifidobacterium
Bifidobacterium is the hero you need for histamine intolerance. It degrades histamine, reduces inflammation, and helps calm overactive mast cells. Probiotics like ProBiota Bifido by Seeking Health are great options for boosting bifidobacterium levels.
Encourage Akkermansia
Support akkermansia by eating foods rich in prebiotics like acacia fiber, inulin, and apple pectin. These fibers feed akkermansia, helping it strengthen your gut barrier and reduce inflammation.
Skip the Lactobacillus
Not all probiotics are created equal. Most contain multiple lactobacillus strains, which can worsen histamine intolerance. If you must use lactobacillus, stick to histamine-neutral strains like L. rhamnosus GG or L. plantarum.
Optimize Your Diet
Your diet plays a huge role in shaping your microbiome. To reduce histamine intolerance symptoms, focus on plant-based fibers and avoid eating animal products multiple times per day, as these can promote lactobacillus overgrowth.
FAQ: Lactobacillus and Histamine Intolerance
Do all lactobacillus strains produce histamine?
No, not all strains are troublemakers. L. plantarum and L. rhamnosus GG are histamine-neutral and may even help stabilize mast cells. But with so many alternatives available, why take the risk?
Can lactobacillus levels be too high?
Absolutely. Most people with histamine intolerance already have moderate to high levels of lactobacillus, making supplementation unnecessary—and potentially harmful.
What about prebiotics?
Prebiotics like acacia fiber and apple pectin are incredibly helpful for histamine intolerance. They feed bifidobacterium and akkermansia without increasing histamine levels.
What probiotics should I avoid?
Avoid probiotics that contain multiple lactobacillus strains. Instead, look for ones that focus on bifidobacterium, like ProBiota Bifido.
Conclusion: Ditch the Drama, Choose Balance
If you’re dealing with histamine intolerance, lactobacillus might not be your friend. Sure, it has its benefits, but it can also trigger mast cells, produce histamine, and disrupt your microbiome. Instead, focus on bifidobacterium, akkermansia, and prebiotics to restore balance and calm your symptoms.
Remember: a healthy gut is all about balance. Choose the right tools, and your histamine intolerance won’t stand a chance.
Need help? I’m here for you. Let’s tackle this together.
Happy healing!

Hi! My name is Luca. I have created this account to review books I read and try to reach other people who have similar interests to me. I enjoy reading and writing queer stories. I also read queer mangas, but I don't really plan to talk about them. I live somewhere where people are less than accepting of queer people, which makes it hard to find queer friends who read. I hope to find people who want also want to have people who read similar things to them.
When I was around 11 years old I had figured out that I was queer and didn't identify with my sex. My family is very conservative, so I haven't come out yet. I felt that if I told my family, I would be ostracized from them and wouldn't be able to see my younger siblings. After some time most of the things I liked would have queer characters or queer themes. I have found it hard to talk about the things that I enjoy. I hope that this blog will connect me to people who have felt the same way I have.
I have loved reading and writing since a young age and had always wanted to become an author. Most of my writings were very simple with boring plots, but I always had fun while doing it. I would show my family my writings and getting their feed back. As I got older and learned more about myself, those things seeped into my writings. My characters were queer and I felt that I couldn't share these things with my family. I have another account on here that is focused on one of my main writings.
I very hesitant to start this blog because I personally find it hard to rate books because I enjoy most of the books I read. I don't think that my reviews will be good for people wanting to know if it is well-written, but I wanted to have somewhere to talk about my thoughts on the things I read. But I thought that this could be a fun way to talk about the books I read and try to make friends.
I identify as non-binary and go by they/them pronouns. As of right now I also identify as sapphic, but I am still trying to figure that out. I also believe that I am asexual. There are other things about my sexuality that I am still trying to figure out, but for right now I am fine with were I am right now.
Personal:
State: Texas
Want to live: New York
Career Path: Pre-school Teacher and Author
Other Interests: Queer Media, Pop Culture, Baking,
Favorite Movies: But I'm A Cheerleader and Doukyuusei

Maybe it’s just because I mostly hang out in romance fandoms, but canon couples make up the default shipping option in my spaces with oodles of people paying attention to and squeeing over them. When I was into Yuri on Ice, everyone shipped Victuuri; when I was into MDZS, everyone shipped Wangxian; now I’m into Good Omens and everyone ships Aziraphale/Crowley, just to name a few. Other ships exist, of course, but they don’t get anything near the attention and love lavished upon the canonical couple. A romance fandom on the up might be just the ticket for you, anon.
Both Good Omens and Our Flag Means Death just had season 2 of 3 air, so there’s a lot of ambient fandom activity as people wait for seasons 3. Jane Austen fandom has literally never calmed down for a single second since she died (I should know, I was once in a literal Jane Austen fan club). Tian Guan Ci Fu (by the same author as Mo Dao Zu Shi) has the second season of the donghua currently simulcasting in China and on Crunchyroll, I believe, and the book is fully translated now. Red White and Royal Blue just got a movie and Casey McQuiston’ll be putting out a new book this summer. Without knowing what you actually like, I can’t really recommend any of them, but hopefully it gives you a place to start looking?
First as a disclaimer: I'm pretty sure I'm not an anti (I'm anti death threats and am fine with incest, age-gap, abusive ships etc)
However I'm probably still a social/political enemy for various reasons but you sometime post asks from people you disagree with I think and I think you might know this answer.
Anyway onto my question I'm the kind of shipper who likes canon compliant ships and looking for hints and stuff but these days it feels like everyone boasts about how much their ships deviate and poop on canon etc. Do other shippers with my mentality still exist and I just don't notice them (Outside of anti spaces) or are we actually a dying breed?
--
Eh. I think "political enemy" has a pretty fluid definition if one is really into playing politics. If you aren't out campaigning on a white supremacy platform, we probably have some goals in common.
I usually block people for being extremely annoying on a day I'm feeling hormonal or for attacking people particularly viciously in my comments, not for nominally being in some other camp.
--
I think the more canon-adjacent fandom flavors are actually really common.
They're a little lost in the tumult of "My headcanon is actually canon!!!" stuff on tumblr that we like to laugh at on my own blog.
They're also less common in oldschool m/m-shipping spaces because those are often inherently non-canon ships. In the past, it was because homophobic censorship wouldn't let anything be made. These days, it's because the flavor of m/m a lot of people like is more easily found by adding romance to a buddy canon than by trying to add buddy-ness to a romance canon in many cases, and this can be true even if canon is original m/m aimed at fandom types.
Here's the thing: oldschool m/m shippers tend to be particularly prone to building community spaces and recording our history precisely because it's so easily erased and so often attacked. This type of shipper also tends to have more of a cohesive identity. That makes it far easier to name ourselves and set up little fiefdoms on modern social media.
I'm one of these people. Shittons of the people doing amateur fandom history work are. Much of the OTW old guard are. And lots of us know each other at least a bit, so if you're running into one of us, you're probably running into more of us.
--
However, that doesn't actually mean this type of shipping is the most common or that there have never been spaces devoted to something else.
That old Beauty and the Beast tv series with Linda Hamilton had epic canon shippers. So did Moonlight (the vampire tv series). So did and does Twilight.
A lot of these shippers had this as their first and possibly their only fandom and carried on being obsessed long after canon was over.
Lizzie/Darcy shippers put anything I have ever been a fan of to shame. No matter what the AO3 numbers show, this ship far, far exceeds the popularity of Destiel or any of the other m/m heavyweights.
--
I think the problem you're running into is that in the modern era of binging things on Netflix and regular joes being huge media geeks, analyzing canon in a nerdy way and obsessing over your canon ships is just how a big chunk of the population engages with media.
Fan theories that are closely tied to what was actually on the screen/page are the bread and butter of water cooler conversations and have been since The Sopranos and its ilk.
Yes, I know some fuck will immediately show up and go "Ahem, ahem, I am a GEEK and SPECIAL and the people around me never have intellectual conversations about media literally ever!!!!" just like every single time we have this conversation. But times have moved on, and being overinvested in canon theorizing just is a normie activity now, and that's great! Except when you want a special term and space to find your people.
The only time canon shippers really stand out from that is if they're extremely fic-focused, and then they often start straying farther from canon, especially if they stick around the same fandom for a long time. Either they start becoming more fans of some fic writer or they start wanting to diversify what they themselves are writing.
The really good close-to-canon fandom activities are at their best when lots of fans find the same currently-running canon at the same time and before canon itself passes its prime.
Even I started out on alt.tv.x-files, analyzing the shit out of season 2 and not caring much about non-canon things. (Though, admittedly, I was more NoRomo than MSR.)
--
That said, antis are not actually that canon-focused in most cases. They will do the "My headcanon is reality" thing as much as anyone. They just tend to spend a lot of time hating on explicit m/m and a lot of explicit m/m is of non-canon ships.
Honestly... anon... you might want to figure out what the latest CSI-ish franchise is and find the obviously-future-canon het ship from that. Those tend to get the 10 seasons of build up and fan theories that don't stray too far from canon.
This stuff is not only not a dying breed, but it's so common that one of the editors of NCIS delivered a deeply cringeworthy lecture at my film school about what "shippers" are and how the Tiva shippers affected the production.
People into those ships don't need tumblr: Major entertainment magazines are publishing their fan theories for them.

Again, you are generalizing.
First of all, while it is common, directly making Mass Effect’s team and development = to the Dragon Age’s team is wrong- Each have different directors, different teams, even if sometimes members of the team overlap in different sectors. I work in a studio and I can tell you that the people who call the shots on what should and what shouldn’t be aren’t the people who first consider it, but project managers/directors/the clients who ordered or allowed the project to be made to begin with. You can see that reflected in Veilguard already; there’s already speculation that Taash (A main companion)’s storyline will involve a trans awakening, whose writer is nb and the game’s director is a trans woman. ME1’s only LGBT romance was essentially women kissing for the male gaze, and it’s director is Casey Hudson, AKA my nemesis.
Which is why I included DAO, a game released around the same time as ME1, in my example. If they weren’t allowing gay storylines that weren’t tintilating for men and period, then by that logic Zevran shouldn’t exist.
Games are a collective process, but many times in big projects like these the people you should be blaming are the people involved in barring these storylines back in the 2000’s, not the people who are trying to provide a new experience today. Also, assuming the people who worked on ME1 are the same people working on VG and therefore should not deserve sympathy is. Bad!
So the Veilguard companions are all pansexual. Sweet. Should’ve been something they’ve been doing years ago though. But yknow, they were pussies who bowed to the bigoted demographic because they were the loudest and they were scared of losing money but whatevs. At least they go their shit together.

This decade has given so much.
We got a freaking Les Mis film in 2012 with beautiful actors and actresses, a metric heck-ton of Grantaires and Enjolrai on stage that ship ExR as much as we do, George Blagden and Aaron Tveit are happy (as Grantaire and Enjolras should’ve been), and so much more.
Drink with me (and Grantaire) to a new decade of hopefully a lot more ExR content and Les Misérables! 🍾
In addition, we got Red, White, & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston and fifty beautiful episodes of The Untamed... wow.

yours, mine, and ours; wangxian family
cross-posted on ao3 [x]
When they have both mostly recovered, and Yuan is back to his smiling, playful self, Lan Wangji presents him with a forehead ribbon. Yuan’s little fingers bump into Lan Wangji’s thumbs as he traces the cloud motif along it.
“You are Lan now. This is very important,” Lan Wangji tells him and Yuan looks away from the ribbon to meet his eyes. “You must not take it off as you please. Only family may touch it.”
Yuan nods once, serious in response to Lan Wangji’s firm tone. Lan Wangji turns him around by the shoulders and encircles his little form with his arms as he holds the ribbon.
“Hold onto both sides and I will guide you.”
Yuan gently grabs onto both sides of the ribbon, just inside Lan Wangji’s hands, and Lan Wangji lifts them to the back of Yuan’s head. He slides his hands over Yuan’s and begins to guide him through the steps of tying, just as his uncle had done for him when he was little. It is a slow process, but they get through it without having to restart.
“There. We will practice and soon you will be able to do it on your own.”
Yuan turns back around to him, face glowing with happiness as he lifts his hands to examine the new, silky material wrapped around his head.
“Family,” Yuan repeats. His voice sounds soft and certain, but he reaches out hesitantly to press his little index finger to the matching clouds on Lan Wangji’s ribbon at his forehead. Lan Wangji lets him, and it burns when he swallows against the lump in his throat . He thought grief would feel the same, when he lost his mother and didn't understand, didn't know where to put all the love he had for her. It's different, he thinks, looking down at Yuan's little face and feeling an overwhelming surge of affection pour out of the hole in his chest all at once.
He takes a steadying breath before replying, “Yes, A-Yuan.”
Yuan beams back at him, big and bright, like a little sun, and Lan Wangji feels something begin to rethaw.
--
“These are my rabbits,” Lan Wangji says to Yuan on a cool, Spring morning on the mountainside.
The grass is dewy, but Yuan kneels down onto it anyway to pet them. Lan Wangji doesn’t have to tell him to be gentle, just watches tenderly as Yuan brushes the rabbits with his little hand, careful not to apply too much pressure, and introduces himself to them politely.
“Hello bunnies, I’m Lan Yuan, it’s nice to meet you!” he says, and Lan Wangji knows they will become the best of friends.
Lan Wangji takes a seat near him in the grass and passes him leafy greens, carrots, and special raspberry treats to feed them. The rabbits gather around them in little clumps and Yuan never stops talking to them. As they nibble the fruit, Yuan giggles with delight, watching their white mouths slowly stain stark red with raspberry lipstick.
After the rabbits are mostly fed, Lan Wangji points out a hole in the ground full of baby bunnies, which Yuan wastes no time trying to coax them out of. They hop out, curious about the strange noise of Yuan clicking his tongue against his teeth and hesitant, until they realize there is no threat. They are perfectly Yuan-sized, white puffballs against the green backdrop of grass and Yuan giggles again.
"Hi babies," he says softly.
Lan Wangji rests his hand on the ground, palm-up, until one takes the plunge and hops into it. He lifts it, holding where Yuan can reach it. The baby makes its way into Yuan's hands and he lifts it to his nose to nuzzle it while Lan Wangji picks up another to put in his lap. The other rabbits hop around them, grazing for any remaining scraps of vegetables.
“Hanguang-Jun, can they be my rabbits too?” Yuan asks, petting the baby and looking up at Lan Wangji with pleading eyes.
“If you like,” he responds, face soft. "It seems they have already chosen you."
“I love them! I want to come see them every day!”
“Then they will be ours.”
--
It's not every day that a member of the Lan Clan turns 15. At the banquet held in his honor, it is quiet, solemn, but between courses 2 and 3, Lan Sizhui meets Lan Wangji's eyes and grins at him. It catches Lan Wangji in the chest and he can’t help but lift the corner of his mouth in return while giving an almost imperceptible head shake, before dropping his gaze and returning his face neutral. Lan Xichen notices and smiles also, and Lan Wangji would think them both insufferable sometimes if he didn't care for them so much. He's not sure what it is about himself that attracts these insufferable loved ones, if Wei Ying were‒
If Wei Ying were here. He doesn't allow the thought to go much further than that, and returns to eating his soup. It is a celebration after all.
Afterward, Lan Wangji waits patiently while Sizhui and Jingyi whisper at each other, before Sizhui finally spots him standing there watching him. His eyes widen slightly and he whispers one last thing to Jingyi before making his way over to Lan Wangji.
The January night is dark and quiet on their walk to Sizhui's room. Sizhui thinks about all the things he wants to say, all the things that growing a year older, reaching a new period of his life, and getting a new name has made him reflect on and be grateful for, but the words get caught in his chest so he stays silent. Their footsteps slow as they reach his room and they turn to each other. Lan Wangji shakes out his sleeve, before placing his palm to the flat of Sizhui's temple, right where his ribbon meets his hairline. It is fatherly, comforting, and overwhelmingly affectionate. Sizhui swallows, tries to ignore the prickle in his eyes.
"You have grown up so much." Lan Wangji pauses, his eyes soft, but no other parts of his face giving anything away. "And I am proud of you."
Sizhui smiles up at him, hesitates only a moment before surging towards him to wrap his arms around him in a tight hug. Lan Wangji doesn't show any surprise at the sudden impact, but he goes very still when Sizhui says, voice muffled by the fabric at his shoulder, "Thank you, a-die."
It's not the first time, but because it has been a while, and because tonight he has allowed himself to wish that Wei Wuxian were here to see Yuan now, something unnamed thuds against his chest with his voice ‒ This child is my son ‒ and it aches. He had carefully avoided it earlier, but now, half of him is thrown suddenly back to Yiling, meeting this little boy for the first time. A boy who wrapped his hand around Wei Wuxian's wrist in comfort, gave generous hugs, and confidently moved Lan Wangji's arm to slide onto his lap in its place and, smiling, spin the toys he had spoiled him with around his face. Little A-Yuan who, just like Wei Ying, unknowingly and too, too easily leapt over his walls to stick a flag into and claim a personal space in his heart. Lan Wangji lowers the hand in the air that had been at Sizhui's head and places it on his back, drawing him closer. They stay like that, a gentle breeze ruffling their ribbons, before Sizhui pulls away, returns to decorum, and bows respectfully. His cheeks are pink from the cold.
Lan Wangji's eyes glisten in the moonlight and he blinks softly at him before saying, "Goodnight, Sizhui."
The name settles around Sizhui like a warm blanket and he smiles again. “Goodnight, Hanguang-Jun.”
--
Sizhui is fairly certain his heart stops beating when Wei Wuxian reaches out to pat the side of his head. Only family may touch it, echoes in his ribcage and he spares a glance to Lan Wangji, finding his face impassive ‒ which is validation in its own way, really ‒ before looking down to try to contain the blush on his cheeks. The contact is tangible confirmation of everything his heart had been hoping for, when he couldn't quite put a name to what he was feeling towards Wei Wuxian, and other titles hadn't been enough. He had said that he felt safe when either one was around, and with his arms around both of them in a hug, he thinks it feels more like‒ whole.
He remembers years ago, sitting with his Uncle Xichen and feeling some personal thrill when he had broken sect rules and brought up the topic of Lan Wangji's happiness with him; to make sure he knew his tells, how to see it despite what he projected on the exterior and despite the ever-present undertone of melancholy he carried with him.
"You are very important to him, to us," his uncle had told him. "Not just because you are a good student, but because you are you. I want to make sure you realize that."
He had, but it was reassuring to hear it in words. And now, Sizhui appreciates their talk more than ever, because he can see the shift in Lan Wangji all the more clearly. Some previously unknown missing parts, carrying on despite them, and now, finding them. It's something else they have in common and Sizhui tucks away that point of pride inside himself for safe-keeping.
Like father, like son, or so the saying goes. And hadn't they just complimented the ways he was similar to each of them? Like fathers, like son, now. It all makes Sizhui feel so inordinately happy he could burst with it.
When Lan Wangji pulls him aside from Wei Wuxian and Wen Ning, and the excitement has subsided, Sizhui wants to ask, Why didn't you tell me? even though he thinks he knows why. What comes out instead is, "This doesn't change anything, does it? You're still my..." he trails off. It's a stupid question, a prickle of insecurity, but he just wants to hear-
"Always," Lan Wangji reassures him. "Nothing has changed that you don't want."
Sizhui doesn't respond. His head swarms with thoughts of himself in red, silly?, of saying "my real family," only to feel instant doubt, because what is more real than the man in front of him who raised him, more real than both men who saved him and gave him their homes? Lan Wangji must be able to see the panic building behind his eyes because he places a hand on his shoulder.
"You have time to meditate and reflect on your feelings. I am sorry I could not tell you earlier."
Sizhui begins to shake his head. “I… I am more grateful to you now than ever before.”
“Sizhui, there is no need. I did not do a favor for you. Family-," he swallows. "-takes care of each other."
Shizhui wipes away an errant tear that escapes against his will, and repeats, his voice full of adoration, “Family.”
Their eyes both flicker up the hill to Wei Wuxian then back.
Lan Wangji smiles softly, as though he cannot help it, and he says, "Yes, A-Yuan. We will see you back at home."
--
"What was it like, raising him?" Wei Wuxian asks Lan Wangji with his ear against his chest as they lie in bed.
He has one arm wrapped around his middle and a knee thrown between his legs. Lan Wangji drags his fingers down Wei Wuxian's arm and back up as he considers his answer.
"He was happy. Empathetic, observant, and a fast learner. It was difficult to remain impartial."
"Ohh, a star disciple," Wei Wuxian says as he turns to look up at him, with his chin resting on the back of his hand and his mouth upturned into a teasing smile. "Sounds familiar. Did you try asking your uncle for advice?"
Lan Wangji ignores him.
"He also likes to tease. As you know. Always tries to do what is right," he continues, looking down to meet Wei Wuxian's eyes. "He was...a comforting reminder, as well as the best distraction."
“Lan Zhan-" he starts, and his eyes sparkle. “-your son is also lucky to have you.”
Lan Wangji halts the brush of his fingers and instead wraps them tightly around Wei Wuxian’s bicep.
“Our Son,” he corrects, and Wei Wuxian smiles like a cat who caught the canary.
“Hmm...I bet you just love to say that,” Wei Wuxian whispers conspiratorially and in an instant, Lan Wangji pulls him upward and onto him to capture Wei Wuxian’s lips between his own.
If Lan Wangji's goal was to kiss the smile off of him, it's an instant success, and something they’ll never get tired of. Wei Wuxian doesn’t resist the heavy force of gravity pulling him into Lan Wangji; he just lets himself fall and kisses him back with equal fervor. His hand slips beneath the folds of his robe at his stomach and palm to skin, he begins a long, slow stride until it slots into place at his heart. Wei Wuxian opens his mouth, and Lan Wangji deepens it; kisses him so thoroughly and possessively that every fiber of his being pulses with Lan Wangji’s heartbeat against his hand, yours, yours, yours. Lan Wangji grips him closer, as if he pulled hard enough they would meld together but it still wouldn’t be close enough, and then Wei Wuxian finds himself suddenly beneath him, pressed deep into the bed, arms raised overhead and crossed at his wrists by Lan Wangji’s large hand. Lan Wangji breaks the kiss - and Wei Wuxian's lips try helplessly to follow - to bite at Wei Wuxian’s neck instead, his lips vibrating against his skin as he claims him.
"My husband.”
“Yes,” Wei Wuxian exhales, tilting his chin up to give him better access. “And mine.”
Lan Wangji’s grip tightens again at his words and his tongue scorches against Wei Wuxian's throat as his teeth continue their onslaught. Wei Wuxian swallows against it, his skin ablaze.
“Our son,” Lan Wangji repeats again, his voice rougher than before and Wei Wuxian's feels drunk with the power of causing it.
“Our son,” he repeats in a daze, with Lan Wangji’s entire mouth searing and insistent at his neck.

Hello! As usual I am requesting your help with quality control. Under the read more is our tentative list of competitors for this tournament. However, between doing a lot of copy pasting and not knowing all of these books I need help. Let me know if any of these are spelled wrong, repeated, or simply don't follow the rules and shouldn't be here. Once polls are posted they are not able to be edited, so this is the chance to make sure I've got it all right before things go live, which will hopefully be in a few days.

As usual, I will accept submissions until the number of responses gets scary for me. Which usually takes a few days, so try and get your ships in fast!
And also as usual, let's remember that this is all for fun! Let's stay chill and respectful!

The new issue of Basic Paper Airplane is here!
This issue of the long-running series focuses on interviews—what it means to create that space and all the ways they can succeed or fail. Ten interviews with writers, artists, and musicians that delve into the creative process, identity, family, image, myth, and obsession.
Interviews with: musician Owen Ashworth (Advance Base/Casiotone for the Painfully Alone), essayist Elena Passarello (Animals Strike Curious Poses), poet Casey Fuller (A Fort Made of Doors), musician Erika M. Anderson (EMA), filmmaker/installation artist Vanessa Renwick, musician Karl Blau, children's book writer/illustrator Kate Berube (Hannah and Sugar), writer/multimedia artist Dao Strom (We Were Meant to be a Gentle People), writer A.M. O'Malley (Expecting Something Else), and writer/oral historian Audrey Petty (High Rise Stories).
Risograph covers by C. Stone and Anthony Michael at Montavilla Press.
