#cas is claire's yellow-eyed demon

Spn is insane for a lot of reasons but Claire’s arc in particular is so fucked up. Like. Cas is her yellow eyed demon!! Cas functionally killed her father, and then her mother abandoned her to try and find him!!!! Like! Claire isn’t a cute little side character they can add sometimes when they feel like doing a fun episode. Claire is a reminder of the collateral damage that Sam, dean, and cas leave behind. IF Claire and cas were going to reconcile, it would’ve taken a lot longer than an episode. Claire should’ve been a minor antagonist for at LEAST a season first.

this post does a fantastic job of summarizing my feelings about claire and castiel. people seem so gung ho about the whole “he’s her dad now!!” thing, but like. it is NOT that easy. castiel has been the villain of claire novak’s existence since she was 10 years old. he wrecked her picture-perfect apple pie life, killed her dad, and drove her mom to abandon her at a too-young age in a fruitless quest to Fix It. In so many ways he is her yellow-eyed demon.

And now he’s here and caring insistently at her and he’s very sorry about it all, but what is she supposed to do with that!? he’s trying to make amends while still wearing her dead dad’s face! and i do believe that claire ultimately reaches a level of forgiveness, that she does start to view him as family, but lordy that is a complicated journey. especially since cas (& the winchesters) seem to randomly drop in and out of her life -- they’re not a consistent presence, and that in and of itself can be so confusing & hurtful when you’re a teenager. anyway all this to say that kathryn newton does a great job of portraying all that mess of feeling in remarkably limited screen time and i appreciate all of her choices thank u

kathryn newton is suuuuuch a fantastic actor like i genuinely don’t understand how claire was only in a handful of episodes with cas but she manages to convey so much complexity in their relationship

like she lets him comfort her but he looks just like her dad so its like is she allowing herself to pretend that thats jimmy for a second and be a child again or does she just need comfort from someone or is she doing it for cas? its feels like its all of those things and its so messy and complicated and human and that IS bc of kathryn newtons performance

it would be so easy for her hating cas AND loving him to come across as inconsistent or weird writing but her performance makes it feel completely authentic because she hates cas for what he took from her when she was a child but cas isnt that person anymore and she isnt that child anymore except of course in all the ways that she is. idk idk its just that claire feels so messy and human and everything at that age feels that confusing and huge and awful anyway and claire has just the right edge of vulnerability that it all feels so earned and natural. anyway all this to say kathryn newton PLEASE get boba with me im in love with u

so as i am avoiding work and wandering around random spn sideblogs i stumble on one that criticizes my beloved “cas is claire’s yellow-eyed demon” hot take.... and while i do not want to call anyone out i do want to spend some more time playing with the arguments & implications here, because overthinking things is fun for me:

so let’s start with the idea that jimmy consented to cas possessing him. Jimmy may have truly said yes the first time around, but it is CRYSTAL CLEAR in 4x20 that a) he regrets it, didn’t understand what he was saying ‘yes’ to, and would have taken it back if he could, and b) when he says yes the second time, it is the last thing he wants and he’s only doing it to save his ten-year-old daughter from what he sees as a terrible fate. that is not consent, by any definition of the word. that is coercion.

mary and jimmy were ultimately given the same choice: say yes to something you do not want, or sacrifice a loved one. Mary knows that making a deal with azazel is going to have horrifying consequences, but she does it to save john. jimmy knows that saying yes to castiel means he’ll never see his family again, but he does it to save claire. Both Cas and Azazel created situations where these were the only options. (cas didn’t do it on purpose, but like... if you are a child and watch this go down in front of you that distinction really does not matter)

the analogy gets a little fuzzier when we get to john and amelia, because ultimately john stuck around to emotionally warp sam & dean and amelia abandoned claire and took off. at the end of the day, though, all three kids effectively lost BOTH parents in one fell swoop, and all three of their childhoods were stolen by a crusade against the supernatural, so like. strong parallels there.

the idea that claire shouldn’t blame cas for how her life turned out post-4x20 is crazy to me, though. he ran off with her dad’s body!!!! even if amelia had chosen to stick around after that & nothing else had gone wrong, taking a ten-year-old girl’s dad away from her is grounds for her to hate you for life!!! (i’m not even touching on the implications of cas possessing her (!!!) and then essentially using her as leverage to convince her dad to sacrifice himself, we know he was freshly brainwashed from some heaven torture but claire and amelia do not)

castiel is not responsible for amelia’s decision to abandon claire, just like azazel is not responsible for john’s decision to turn his kids into child soldiers. both amelia and john could have done something else with their grief. BUT. cas and azazel ARE responsible for causing that grief in the first place! they are directly to blame for the loss of mary/jimmy; from a bereaved child’s perspective, they are also to blame for everything that came after (not least because it’s hard to fully recognize the faults of your one surviving parent after a trauma like that; see dean/john’s entire relationship for reference. also it’s hard to get mad at mary/jimmy for saying ‘yes’ because they are dead. so all that rage and pain has to go somewhere else).

here is a question that i bet claire has: what if jimmy hadn’t died in 4x22? would it ever have occurred to castiel to leave his vessel and give her back her father? given that he didn’t think to check in on the novaks for 6+ years, signs kinda point to ‘no’

one more wager: we know sam & dean fantasize about what their lives would have looked like with no yellow-eyed demon, in a world where they get to grow up “normal”; i bet claire does the same thing with castiel

Basically my thesis is that from ages 10-17, Castiel lives in Claire’s mind -- like Azazel does in Sam & Dean’s -- as the monster that burned her picture-perfect life to the ground. But she doesn’t get the chance to funnel her anger & need for revenge into saving people, hunting things, or family, so instead she just grows up furious and alone. Can you imagine the incredible amount of rage she must feel when they swan back in after all these years to tell her they’re sorry??

(Actually, I don’t know if Sam & Dean ever do say sorry to her, which is kind of worse in its way -- Cas has the excuse of not being human, but they are both well aware of what losing a parent does to a kid and it also doesn’t occur to them to think about the novaks after 4x20. what the heck, guys.)

All this to say: I love Claire! I love the complicated mess of feelings she has for Castiel & Sam & Dean! I love that her journey parallels Sam & Dean’s so closely but ends in forgiveness instead of revenge!!! i love the idea of deconstructing the boogeyman of your childhood and relearning him as a person you can love!!! I love found family!! Jody “i will mom you whether you like it or not” Mills 4 lyfe!!  but to me, there’s just so much trauma and anger and pain and lost time between claire & cas... i just don’t think the show did her character any favors when it glossed over all of that and had her forgive him for everything so incredibly quickly. i can accept that claire grows to have affection for him, and that she gradually categorizes him & sam & dean as her weird uncles. but after everything???? that late in the game???? “dad” is not on the table.

In season 1, Dean realised that his dad was possessed by the yellow eyed demon because John said he was proud of Dean. And despite everything John passes some of his traits down to his sons, evident in season 8 when Kevin recognises that the Dean and Sam he’s been talking to aren’t the real Winchesters because they were too nice to him.

And in the secret good supernatural that lives in my head, they went back to this plot one more time in the final season. There was one more infiltration in the bunker via a Dean being possessed - or a maybe it’s a shapeshifter, or his doppelganger from another earth, or whatever. But this time, instead of Jack discovering that Dean isn’t who he says he is because this other Dean is too nice... Jack pieces it together because he’s too cruel. He’s cold. Brittle. There was a bottle up anger sitting underneath the surface in a way that the real Dean used to be, but hadn’t been in year because in the good supernatural they actually resolved his issues and he healed. In the good supernatural, they broke the cycle of abuse and trauma. In the good supernatural, Dean would never bristle as Jack hugs him, he wouldn’t snap at Claire, wouldn’t avoid Cas’ gaze when he felt overwhelmed.

In the good supernatural, Dean was allowed to grow as a character, and his relationships with others were reflected by that.

sam: yeah, jack is on lucifer’s family tree. but we don’t know if that DNA is stronger than kelly’s, or his connection with cas.

dean: oh, you mean the connection that got cas killed?

sam: i’m just saying, jack doesn’t have to be evil. we can teach him not to be.

i’m going to touch back on what i said here and here regarding dean losing his mary (cas) because another realization i just had was that, in the way mary died trying to protect sam from azazel, jimmy died trying to protect claire from cas (a parallel i’ve spoken about). and now, cas died trying to protect jack from lucifer, making lucifer jack’s azazel. making cas = mary and jimmy. making dean = john and amelia. i mean, we do have the yellow-eyed demons (ramiel, dagon, and asmodeus) returning to the show, princes of hell like azazel, who want to train jack to take on lucifer’s place in hell. just as azazel wanted sam to be lucifer’s perfect vessel and cas nearly made claire his vessel before jimmy stopped him. the boy king / the vessel / the nephilim needed for a grand, sinister purpose.

all of this… which takes me back to what john told dean before dying — that dean may have to kill sam because of sam’s susceptibility to becoming evil. and now, dean is hell bent on killing jack because of this same belief in jack’s potential for evil, which sam argues against because he was in the exact same position at the start of this journey. granted, john cared for sam while dean feels he can’t care for jack, but the idea is there. and instead of doing what mary would have wanted and raising the boys with love in her absence, john became bitter, like i mentioned. tying back to accepting sam would have to be killed if he became evil, infected by the monster that killed mary. so, instead of raising jack with faith in his goodness as cas (and kelly) would have wanted, dean turned bitter and accepted jack has to be killed because he may be evil, “infected” by the same monster that killed cas (and took mary away).

not to mention the similarities cas and mary share — one being how they both confronted lucifer to protect their boys. i wondered all of s12 why cas and mary sharing small moments of connection was so important. now i know it’s because cas and mary are mirrors — bonding so strongly with kelly out of everyone else in the group, running into the nursery / the AU world without a second thought, giving their lives for their children, considering azazel’s / lucifer’s intrusion into their life their responsibility. as for dean and john — how sam tried to pull dean away was similar to how dean pulled sam away when jess had died in the pilot, which directly mirrored mary’s death. s12 highlighted how not post-pilot-john but pre-pilot-john dean was. his empathy, his growth. how good it felt to have sam, cas, and mary together. not perfect, but as happy as it could be. before it was snatched away. s13 is the devastating pivot. it’s the pilot and all that came after. it’s dean in john’s shoes. they even shared the same look of “revenge fueled by grief” on their faces — when john was holding sam outside their burning home and when dean was staring down at cas’ body. this arc has john and mary’s tragedy written all over it, the same way it has jimmy and amelia’s, just channeled through dean and cas this time.

Dean's at Pride, and feeling a rising level of discomfort.

It's not the fact that he's wearing eyeliner in public for the first time in his forty-two years. Hell, he'd been wanting to do that ever since he was a kid, dreaming of being a rock star. The covers of music magazines in gas station racks had been windows on a world free from the brutally narrow definition of what his Dad meant when he told him to "be a man". Gradually, though, he'd learned what is gloriously apparent today under the hot June sun: that there are as many ways of being a man as there are men.

It's not because the sleeveless white t-shirt he's wearing is somewhat snug. (The heat had made him shed his pink, purple and blue plaid shirt - the one he'd worn today because Claire always called it his 'bi flannel' - and tie it around his waist.) He and Cas are both wearing a little of their contentment on their waistlines these days, and he believes Cas when he says that he adores his body because he means it when he says the same to Cas.

It's not the big, heart-shaped sticker slapped on his chest, which is striped in the colours of the bisexual pride flag in a way that's much less subtle than the flannel. Dean's always known that he wasn't only into chicks, but putting a name to it is new. Dean's had jobs and Dean's had roles, but having an identity had always seemed like a luxury well beyond Dean's means. Now he's not constantly running for his life, though, he has the breathing room to figure himself out. And he's good with this part of himself. More than good.

It's not the two flags that are padding the pockets of his jeans. One, he'd bought for Cas: it's striped in pale pink, pale blue and white. Earlier, he'd gone with Cas when he'd met up with some friends he'd met online (having managed to get past all the cats this time). The ex-angel had found that discussing their experiences of being trans had helped him feel happy in the body that had become his own. Dean could only feel immense gratitude for the way Cas' face had lit up afterwards when he'd talked about how he was creating himself, becoming himself, and embracing the human condition of change.

Dean hopes that the gift of the trans pride flag will show Cas that Dean understands and loves him, and the same is true for the other flag, which he'd picked up for Jack. It's yellow, white, purple and black. Dean had had to do a little research when Jack had used the term non-binary - it's amazing how the world can move on while you're living in an underground bunker. He'd kept on researching, too, after he'd learned the basics. Maybe he was still figuring himself out. Maybe there was more to discover about himself, and wasn't that fantastic?

Jack is wandering around somewhere with Claire and Kaia. Jody and Donna are here, too, with Alex and Patience. Adam and Michael have probably partied their way through fifty international pride parades by now, but they should be meeting up with everyone else later. Sam and Eileen are not far away. Eileen was the one who's slapped the bi pride sticker on Dean's chest - with unnecessary force, if you asked Dean. She'd grinned at him, showed off the identical sticker on her own chest, and said, with a suitably cheesy wink, "we need to stick together". He remembered the moment he'd nervously asked her the sign for 'bisexual', and when she'd shown him - the letter signs for 'b' and 'i' - she'd added, "me too," and Dean had scooped her up into a crushing hug.His love for his family is endless, and them all being here is definitely not why he's uncomfortable.

And it's not the body glitter freckling his cheeks and his shoulders with gold, although his feelings might change by the time he tries to remove it tonight. He'd been gilded with it when he'd been dancing up a storm with a group of drag queens. They'd admired his eyeliner - a deep brown shot through with gold along his upper lashes - but winked and said it was "a little subtle for Pride". As soon as Dean had seen the tube of glitter, he'd yelled "hell yes!" and even managed to hold still long enough to be coated in the stuff before moving his body to the beat again. Although he's sure his feet will be aching later, so far his favourite cowboy boots are not the source of his discomfort.

It's not the bright pink feather boa, either, which he'd acquired from the same source as the glitter, when he'd been sent off with a kiss to the cheek and the words "be bold, honey!" He'd expected the boa to tickle or irritate, but for some bizarre reason the sensation of feathers around his shoulders and the back of his neck feels incredibly comforting and reassuring. He feels warm and safe and oh. Oh.

As that particular realisation sweeps over him, Dean tightens his hold on Cas. He's standing behind him with his right hand on Cas' hip, and his left arm is up over his shoulder and wrapped around his chest. His hand is splayed out, at once putting his silver wedding band on display and somehow attempting to conceal Cas from the eyes of his many admirers (and, well, good luck with that. Cas is incredibly beefy these days).

Which brings us to the source of Dean's discomfort; to the thing that's deepening the furrow in his brow and the dimples beside his pursed lips: namely, the sheer number of guys hitting on Cas.

It's not like Dean can blame them. Cas' muscular frame is wrapped in black jeans and a tight black t-shirt bearing the Led Zeppelin 1975 tour logo. The short sleeves show off the floral tattoos trailing down his left arm. Cas is wearing a rainbow-coloured enamel belt buckle and, because he's determined to be the death of Dean, black cowboy boots. Before they'd left, Dean hadn't been able to resist grabbing a black kohl pencil and smudging a little along Cas' upper and lower lashes. And, okay, maybe Cas' wide-eyed bewilderment every time he's flirted with is vaguely amusing. But when Dean is right here? Not cool.

Right on cue, here's another one. From over his husband's shoulder, Dean levels his very best glare at the guy. It's a look that can stop a demon dead in its tracks. A vampire would tremble. A werewolf would wet itself. But one young gay guy with a few drinks in him? Totally unaffected. Like the others, he's all smiles and understanding when Cas politely, if awkwardly, waves him away. (Literally. With a final dorky little wave goodbye.)

Dean realises that he's moved his right arm around Cas' waist, so now Dean is wrapped around Cas like some kind of koala/octopus hybrid. An octoala? A koctopus? Definitely koctopus. Heh.

Dean snorts at the thought, which is somewhat unfortunate, given that his face is right next to Cas' ear. Cas flinches and turns his head around to fix him in a squinty glare.

"Koctopus?" Dean says, apologetically.

Cas narrows his eyes further and tilts his head to the side.

"Um, the way I was wrapped around you. I was like a cross between a koala and an octopus."

Dean nudges Cas. "So what does that make me? C'mon, you know you wanna say it."

Cas just tilts his head a bit further to the side, either in confusion or outright despair. Dean has untangled himself from Cas and stepped back, and looks down at the ground, suddenly self-conscious.

Dean feels Cas' hand on his shoulder, and then it smooths over his back, finding the back of his neck underneath the boa. Whatever his shape, Cas' touch has the exact same effect on Dean. He looks up into the impossibly blue eyes of his husband.

"You're a very glittery," Cas begins, softly, "and very beautiful," one corner of his mouth lifts, and then he purses his lips together, trying to hold back the smile, "koctopus."

The corners of his eyes are crinkled. He's not amused by the joke, Dean knows, just absurdly pleased to be saying something he knows will make Dean happy. Of course Dean knows that Cas loves him, knows the whole cosmic-realm-crossing magnitude of it, but in little moments like this, he's floored by it. Dean can't help his sudden exhale or the massive grin that breaks across his face. He wraps his husband up in hug that they hold for a good long moment, before Dean leans back to kiss Cas.

No one had ever explained to Dean how difficult it is to kiss someone when you can't stop smiling. He'd never had that problem before Cas, but now it's practically a daily occurrence. It's a menace because kissing Cas is one of Dean's favourite pastimes. Now, they trade little pecks between wide, toothy grins, until passion takes over and the kisses become heavier.

It takes someone wolf-whistling for them to part, and then they're back to grinning and staring into each others' eyes, until Dean spots something on Cas' face. And something else. And something else. In fact, there's something all over Cas, and that something is gold glitter. It's on his face, his hands, his Zeppelin shirt, and even in his hair. Dean runs his fingers through the unruly curls - Cas has been wearing his hair longer lately - in an attempt to shake it out, but only deposits more glitter into Cas' locks.

"Oops," Dean says, "I kinda glitter bombed you there. It's all over your shirt, too. Sorry, Sunshine."

He doesn't sound terribly sorry.

"This is your shirt, Dean."

"Aw, man."

He does sound a little sorry now, but his future laundry woes are forgotten when Cas presses another kiss to his pouting lips. They're forgotten again when something across the crowd catches Dean's eye.

"Oooh," Dean exclaims as he drags Cas towards the stall he's spotted.

It's selling cowboy hats in every configuration of colour imaginable, and Dean is practically jumping on the spot excitement. Cas looks his husband up and down, slowly.

"You think your outfit's lacking accessories?" he deadpans.

"Yup," is Dean's gleeful reply, "and so's yours."

Cas' groan is lost to the noise of the crowd and the beat of the music, so no-one will ever know if it was one of protest or defeat. He does, in fact, end up wearing a black cowboy hat with a rainbow band, so if it was protest then it was highly ineffective. Dean's has a pink crown, purple band and blue brim, and he's carrying another black one with a band in the non-binary flag colours for Jack. Cas admits that Jack's going to love it.

"Damn, this is awesome," Dean says as they head back to meet up with the rest of their family.

Walking hand in hand with Cas, Dean's thoughts wander. Dean could kick his younger self for every time he'd called someone gay or a girl as a way of saying they were weak. Because all he can see in the people around him is strength. He grins again, giddy with the atmosphere of defiant joy. All around him is everything he'd spent his life fighting to protect: freedom, family, and love. Holding his husband's hand a little tighter, he's grateful that in the end he gets to have both: freedom and peace.

2x21: All Hell Breaks Loose (Part 1)

Plot Synopsis:

Sam and other "special children" are abducted by the Yellow-Eyed Demon and taken to a ghost town, where the ultimate battle must start.

Features:

Sam disappearing, Ava and Andy’s return, all the special kids, an abandoned ghost town, the arson of The Roadhouse, Dean’s first/only vision, special kid Hunger Games, Ava’s villain monologue, Sam’s first death. 

My Thoughts:

You know what? I love the psychic kids plotline. I’ve said this a million times, we all know this. I know it doesn’t fit perfectly with the season 4/5 angel and apocalypse plot, but I think you can twist it enough that it doesn’t ruin continuity the way SOME THINGS (looking at you, Lebanon) do. 

First of all, Lucifer has been locked away since almost the dawn of time. It’s possible he didn’t tell Azazel absolutely everything about the plan for the apocalypse and that Sam was meant to be his vessel. If he did know everything and he could convince Sam to murder the other special kids, that might have helped twist his soul or his morals to the point that he would willingly submit to being Lucifer’s vessel. Either way, the special kid hunger games are a super fun plot point.

I love the set piece of Cold Oak. It’s super spooky and has the right ambience for this kind of episode. I love Ava and how clean her grift is, how good she is at acting. She’s my biggest argument for the hunger games being a way to turn Sam into the kind of person who would say yes, to be honest. She was a normal person forced into an insane situation and she did things to survive that completely changed her. 

I love that Sam is the one to find the knife that kills him, and that his inherent goodness and inability to kill someone, even someone he thinks deserves it, is what gets him. Plus Dean’s theme plays as he dies in Dean’s arms…

I can’t believe the Roadhouse only lasted one season of this show. It feels like such a huge thing in my memory, I guess because Ellen and Jo stick around for a few more seasons. The monkey toy that comes in and out of focus when Ash is talking to Dean on the phone is also seen in Dean’s (fake) heaven in the finale and in Dean’s fake bar in Nihilism when he’s trapped in his fantasy of settling down. 

Notable Lines:

“You’re the one I’m rooting for. [...] Welcome to the Miss America pageant. Why do you think you’re here? This is a competition. Only one of you crazy kids is gonna make it out of here alive.”

“Better than mother’s milk.”

“I'm the undefeated heavyweight champ.”

“We’re gonna patch you up, okay? You’ll be good as new. Huh? I’m gonna take care of you. I’m gonna take you care of you. I’ve got you. That’s my job, right? Watch out for my pain-in-the-ass little brother?”

13x22: Exodus

Plot Synopsis:

Sam and Dean devise a plan that will save innocent lives. Meanwhile, Jack continues to wrestle with the consequences of his decisions.

Features:

Mary punching Satan in the face, the beginnings of Chief Sam, Jack meeting bio-dad, archangel family reunions, the German Castiel that I had erased from my memory, a school bus full of apocalypse refugees, Gabriel’s actual death. 

My Thoughts:

I hated this episode! The pacing was bad, the dialogue was bad, and everything interesting they tried to do was so poorly executed as to be worse than useless. 

German Nazi Castiel sucks so bad, I had forgotten that this was the episode he was in and it was an extremely bad surprise to see him again. I’m a big subscriber to the idea that Apocalypse World Cas should have been using Claire as a vessel instead, which would have made Cas’ moment with himself way more interesting - we already know that he hates himself, so I think having to kill someone that looks like Claire would be way harder for him. 

The other worst part of this episode is right at the end as they all escape into the main world. It’s structured so poorly. Trying to both give Gabriel a big sacrifice AND let Sam basically spit in Lucifer’s face undermines both. There’s no reason for Sam and Dean to be standing around watching the archangels fight - all of the other people are already through the gate. Gabriel even says he’s going to buy them time to get through, and they make no move to actually run to the portal. They might as well have busted out the popcorn. So Gabriel dies for nothing, and then they finally run, and THEN Sam gets to shove Lucifer back. 

If Gabriel was going to be tossed aside as a character like this, they shouldn’t have brought him back in the first place. He spent the entire time being powerless, so he didn’t serve a purpose in the narrative in that sense. His sacrifice was wasted - they should have allowed his death in Hammer of the Gods to stand, since it actually helped them and gave them the tools they needed to stop the apocalypse. 

If they wanted to do a plot where “maybe Lucifer is right and misunderstood”, they could have done that - in theory, it could be really interesting! But it needed to take place over way more episodes and show us way more of what that was doing to Sam emotionally and mentally, especially if there had been a scene where Dean trusted Lucifer over him. Double points if Lucifer is in a new, cooler vessel, so the slate feels clean even when it isn’t. Or just write him better, either would work. 

Notable Lines:

Saw someone say cas was claire's yellow eyed demon and I want to break something like

1. Jimmy CHOSE to be possessed he had a choice in a way mary never did. Cas didn't know he was gonna rebel or that it would tear the novaks apart because unlike the yed he's not evil he's JUST a weird little guy

2. If amelia is the john in this situation then just like it's john's fault for abusing sam and dean and mary's death didn't excuse that, then jimmy's death didn't excuse amelia dumping claire with her grandma and abandoning her. This is not cas' fault amelia CHOSE to do that

And claire has forgiven cas cas and clearly holds affection for him sam and dean and considers them her weird uncledads. Move on ❤️

THANK YOU for your claire thoughts!!! i tuned back into spn a month ago so i had a lot of fandom characterization to digest very quickly, but the "claire is cas's daughter!" thing confused me immensely. like... cas rolled into this 10yo girl's life and WRECKED it, possessed her, killed her dad, and drove her mom to abandon her at a too-young age in a fruitless quest to Fix It. he's basically her yellow-eyed demon? only YED never showed up to say he was very sorry while still wearing mary's face

which isn't to say that I don't love a forgiveness arc for her!!! it just would have been so much more interesting if the show had acknowledged ANY of that. the parallels we could have had. UGH. on a related note, if there are any other claire fics you'd recommend (besides cambion verse, which i am absolutely heading off to read rn) i'd be forever grateful ty

however i DO have a lifehack for you. if you look in claire’s tag and sort by date posted and only look at fics posted before the airdate of 10.09 (dec 9 2014) you’ll get stories with only fanon claire. here’s a link to claire’s tag sorted by date - just start from there and keep going to higher page numbers til you run out.
