I used to have this water lily in a plastic container that I'd overwinter in the basement every year. I'd been thinking about and trying to find a spot to permanently move it outside for a very long time. Which is why I decided, on a random day last autumn, to go ahead and dig a little pond. Now mind you, I did not have the space for a pond. Nor did I prep for it, apart from googling what type of lining works best, while on my way to the store.

Anyway, this is the result. A tiny, 1.5 m in diameter and 1 m deep pond. I broke my back digging it with a shovel, on my own, in half a day (also hauling all that resulting dirt at the orchard was no fun). Now had I done more prep it could've turned out prettier as I messed up the edges where the lining is still visible (something I realised a little too late), but I love it so much. I moved the water lily (and the other random water plants) in there sometime at the end of October and they overwintered just fine.

The only problem (for which you'll notice the wire fence around it) is surprisingly not my dog, but my turtle. I have a 24 yo red eared slider and while I specifically dug the pond for the water lily, I was excited to give her a little more water to swim in. She already has free range of the yard and garden most of the year and has a blue kiddie pool with water she sleeps in, but I thought it'd be nice to give her a place with aquatic plants in it. Turns out she loves to chomp on them. Especially on the flower stems. She'd already cut 5 buds and a handful of leaves by the time I figured it out and fenced it. I wasn't expecting many flowers this year anyway considering it was recently moved, but now there'll be even less.

Despite all that, I'm very excited about it. There are also some snails and other water critters in there and I could just sit by it and watch them for hours. Tiny, but so relaxing.

anybody else have an online order tell you there was an error, but then the payment and order went through a second later and reads as confirmed in your account (with wherever you're ordering from) but the items still appear in your cart and it asks the next day if you want to complete your order? like, my Route app says I have an order on the way but the place I put the order in had both 1) the order in my account and 2) the items I already ordered still in my cart. am I actually going to get my order or will I need to contact support 😭

me and the girls are going to practice at the shooting range for self defense before museum in the morning and I'm really excited. I used to practice holding my uncle's guns when he would teach me and my cousins and I felt so much more strong and safe than the karate lessons. We used to play pretend with bullets on the closet rug for hours lol. I feel like this is a right every woman should exercise. I can't wait to sleep really comfortably with a handgun in my closet 🔫
