Oh! I almost missed these!
Yeah that sounds like a you problem and Bobby?
Okay, so. I know normally prompts are for fun times but... I needed something platonic. And something with one of the girls after all I've been writing for the last week. So. That + my own family drama means we got Bobby & Carrie sibs. Hope that's okay!
He can hear the loud stomping from down the hall and smiles to himself. Does he need to be in here tonight? No. Does it fuel him knowing how mad she’s going to be about it? Yes, absolutely. He needs to get his kicks from somewhere, right?
He schools his face back into a neutral expression, focusing back on his game. He continues half listening down the hall while he plays.
“Bobby!” Carrie shouts as she appears in the doorway, “I told you that I needed the TV room tonight!”
He doesn’t look up from his game. “It’s a common area, Carrie. You don’t get to lay claim to it just because you want. I was here first.”
“We talked about this,” she seethes through clenched teeth.
Bobby has to concentrate to prevent himself from grinning. She is so predictable.
“You talked,” he reminds her. “I didn’t agree to anything.”
Carrie throws her hands up as she shrieks, “I hate you.”
Bobby shrugs. “Okay, and?”
She huffs defiantly, somehow managing to restrain herself from stomping her foot. “You’re the absolute worst brother.”
“How could you know? I’m your only brother. Besides, if it wasn’t me, it could be someone like…” he trails off, dragging out the teasing for as long as possible. “Reggie.”
Carrie draws in a sharp breath and Bobby manages to refrain from laughing. He knows that Carrie has a complicated relationship with Reggie. Much like everyone, if he’s being completely honest. Sometimes, he annoys the absolute shit out of them with his goofiness and naivete but there’s always an undercurrent of adoration. You can’t help but love Reggie.
Well, most people, anyway.
“Or Luke,” he adds, relishing in the way that she goes silent.
“I’d have murdered him in the womb,” she says finally, voice dripping with derision.
Bobby coughs out a laugh at that.
Carrie sighs, “So can I have the room, please? The girls will be here any minute.”
“No,” he says simply.
This time, she does stomp her feet. She lets out an angry growl. “I wish you’d never been born!” she yells as she storms back down the hall.
“That makes two of us,” he mutters
He was apparently louder than he’d intended because she doubles back.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” she asks from the doorway. He can hear the conflict in her voice, her tone somewhere between anger, annoyance, and worry.
“Nothing, don’t worry about it.”
Bobby decides he’s done playing his game, both the one on the television and the one with his sister. He saves and shuts down the console. He gathers his handful of things and stands, turning to face a very confused Carrie.
“What are you-?” she asks.
“I changed my mind. Have fun,” he says, brushing past her and toward his bedroom.
It’s not long after, maybe half an hour, when there’s a knock on his door.
“I don’t want to talk,” he calls, “leave me alone.”
Carrie opens his door a crack, just wide enough to see into his room. “Well too bad,” she tells him.
Bobby rolls his eyes, “Don’t you have friends to entertain?”
“They’re fine without me for a few minutes. I’m worried about you.”
He studies her for a moment before redirecting his attention to the book in his hand. “Yeah, that sounds like a you problem.”
She pushes his door open further, stepping into his room fully. She crosses her arms over her chest, “What the hell is that supposed to mean?”
“It means I didn’t ask you to be and it’s not my problem. You deal with your feelings and I’ll deal with mine.”
“Are you though?”
“Am I what?”
“Dealing with your feelings.”
He stares at her. “Are you?”
“We’re not talking about me.”
“Exactly. I’m not your problem. You’re not mine. Go away.”
“Don’t say I never cared about you,” Carrie huffs as she turns on her heel to leave.
“Close the door!”
She turns back to glare at him before wheeling back around and slamming his door closed behind her.
Bobby sighs. He fumbles around for his bookmark, inexplicably finding it behind his pillow. He slides it into place to mark his spot and closes his book.
He climbs off his bed, crouching down beside it. He reaches in under his mattress to dig out his secret notebook. He might not want to talk about his problems but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t deal with them. In the only real way he knows how, anyway.
Bobby crawls back into his bed and digs out a pen from his bedside table. It’s not much but if he maybe gets a line or two to contribute to Luke’s next masterpiece, then so be it. If it helps to clear up some of his thoughts at the same time? Even better.

Today in the afterlife:
The eggs got to go to the QSMP as ghosts and just haunt around! Mumza lets them go every once in a while since it can get boring in their little house with the TV.
Bobby went to his castle while Trump went to try and find Maximus. Tilin and Juanaflippa stayed together for most of their trip, but split up halfway since Tilin wanted to see how Quackity was holding up. So Juanaflippa just wandered around the place looking for something interesting or fun happening.
She sees Missa and Chayanne and decides to follow them since they’re fuckin far from spawn. Then she sees the sign Chayanne put about them, and something kinda connects that for all Chayanne knows, they’re never seeing each other again.
Juanaflippa tries to give him a hug and then leaves back to the house, she doesn’t feel like exploring anymore.

Tevan are at the Italian restaurant. The Hot Waiter flirts with Buck. Buck's kinda oblivious. He unintentionally flirts back. Buck pays this time, and inside the folder with his card and receipt is Hot Waiter's phone number. Buck is a little weirded out because he feels like it's obvious he and Tommy are on a date.
For the most part, Tommy watches Buck and Hot Waiter's interaction in amusement. He jokes whether Buck is he's going to call him, and Buck is taken aback. Then Tommy gets serious.
"We haven't really talked about the kind of relationship you want."
Buck's confused. "What does that mean?"
"Just that there's more than one way to be in a relationship. I've been in a couple that were open."
"Open?"
"We were allowed to sleep with other people."
"I know what it means, Tommy. Is that what you want?"
"I want you to be happy. I want you to know I'm amenable to that if you're interested. Truth be told, Evan, the most important thing is that you're in my life, whether we’re together or not.
Suddenly, the Ironside siren goes off in Buck’s head, and he’s spiraling.
Tommy clasps his hand and looks at him like he’s the goddamn sun, moon, and stars. “Think about it. It’s not like it’s something you have to decide today.”
Cue Buck, going to Bobby. “I don’t know what to tell you, Buck, but I’ve seen you two together. I don’t think breaking up is something Tommy is even thinking about. The other stuff...you should talk to Tommy. Be upfront. Be honest.
Cue Buck, going to Maddie. “Buck, he kissed you while you were still covered in boils. I saw that with my own eyes and wished I hadn’t. I don’t want to put words in his mouth, but he does seem very committed to you. And to be perfectly honest, the open relationship doesn’t sound like something he’d suggest out of thin air. Maybe you said something...”
“You’re blaming me? Come on, Maddie! You know damn well that’s not how I roll. I slept around, yeah, but not while I was in a relationship - and don’t you dare bring up Taylor! Besides, an agreed upon “open” means consensual. I just - how did I miss that this was something he was interested in? Why would he wait six months to bring it up?”
A sound of disgust emanates from the corner of the call center's breakroom, and the Buckley siblings' heads swivel to its location. Josh is sitting at a table, sipping his coffee and rolling his eyes. “You sweet naive baby bi.” He gets up from his chair, sidles up to Buck, and eyes the donuts he brought for Maddie. “I don’t suppose there's a Bavarian cream in there?”
“There’s a jelly,” Buck says.
“But jellies are my favorite,” Maddie complains.
“Too bad. I’m about to help your chaotic brother out, so I deserve it.” Josh bites into the donut and gives an appreciative moan. “Oh god, I haven’t had refined sugar in three days. How I missed you.”
“Back to me, please,” Buck says with a whine.
“Look, it’s pretty simple. There are only two types of guys who want to open up a relationship after the six-month mark. Assholes carrying multiple red flags or..”
“Tommy’s not an asshole,” Buck tells him firmly.
“Considering he’d whittle a rocking chair if you asked him to, I’d agree. Buck, my guess is he’s scared. He's worried that if he doesn't give you a free pass, that you'll get bored with him and leave.”
“That’s so stupid,” Buck cries in dismay.
Maddie lays a supportive hand on his bicep.
“It is,” Josh agrees. “But just because your man is a solid L.A. nine doesn’t mean he’s not carrying around a lot of insecurities. Talk to him. Tell him. And hey, if it all blows up on you, send him my way. I’d love to be that man’s shoulder to cry on.”
Buck shows up at Tommy’s door. Tommy is supposed to come to his after finishing his laundry, but Buck doesn’t want to wait that long. “Hey,” Tommy greets him with that scrunchy smile Buck loves so much.
“I don’t want to have sex with anyone else,” Buck tells him as he barges through the door.
“Oh-kay,” Tommy says, closing the door behind Buck.
“Do you want to have sex with other men?”
Tommy crosses his arms, and his head tilts towards the ground. “No. I’ve come to learn that’s not an ideal situation for me.”
Buck scoffs. “Then why suggest it?”
The buzzer on the washer goes off, and Tommy moves towards it to switch out the load. “I don’t know. I’m pretty used to you flirting with everyone.”
“You think I flirt?”
“Evan, you told the waiter you liked his chinos while eyeing his ass. Most of the time, I think it’s cute how you rile people up without realizing it, but then I have a thought like, what if Hot Waiter would be a better match for you? So I panicked and threw out that suggestion.”
“Jesus, Tommy. For the past six months, my brain has been consumed by nothing but you. Yet you think I can be swayed by some guy in a comfortable pair of pants? I only want you.”
“I know. I do. You prove that to me every day. I didn’t suggest it because I don’t trust you.” Tommy tosses one of Buck’s hoodies into the dryer and starts it. He can’t keep eye contact with Buck for more than a few seconds, and he looks paler than when Buck first arrived. Tommy’s also picking his middle fingernail with his thumb, and that’s Tommy’s tell that he’s feeling overwhelmed. “Uh, so like, I’m in this for the long haul. I think you’re it for me, Evan, and I don’t want you to ever feel like you’ve settled or...”
“I love you,” Buck tells him with a certainty he doesn’t think he felt even eight hours ago, but it’s the god’s honest truth. “Just seeing you makes me feel so full I could combust. ”
Tommy’s eyes are glossy and he blinks rapidly to keep the tears at bay. He finally locks eyes with Buck. “Loving you has been living in the back of my mind since...I honestly don’t know how long. I’ve been trying to temper my expectations because I haven’t been super successful in relationships. But then you started leaving clothes here, and suddenly you’ve infiltrated my life like no one else has been willing to. Next thing I know, I’m at a funeral for a long dead cowboy. I watched you embrace the memory of a forgotten man, and I realized I couldn’t love you more, Evan. Boils and all.”
Aaaaand that’s it. I’m tapped out.

---------------------------------------------------
“Bobby, for real, you can’t possibly think that’s better than mine!” I laughed, leaning back on the chair in the kitchen, feet propped up on the table. Across from me, my brother grinned, folding his arms over his chest with that cocky smirk of his.
“You’re just jealous I got the better nickname.” Bobby replied, his voice light, teasing. “Iceman? It’s sleek, it’s cool - literally - and it fits me.”
I snorted, rolling my eyes. “Oh, please. ‘Iceman’ sounds like the title of some second-rate action movie. Meanwhile, I’m lighting up the sky over here.”
Bobby raised a brow, feigning offense. “That’s a lot of talk from someone who’s still stuck with ‘Firecracker.’ ”
I punched him lightly on the arm. “I’ll take ‘Firecracker’ any day over your ‘cool’ puns.”
Our banter was easy, the kind that came naturally after years of being siblings. Bobby had always been the steady one, the one who could calm everyone down with a joke, while I was the hothead - pun intended - never one to back down from a challenge. It’s what made us a good team, even if we drove each other crazy half the time.
The way he carried himself, his calm demeanor, and his unwavering sense of control over his powers - everything I wasn't.
I was the fire to his ice, the chaos to his calm. We clashed often, but it wasn’t because we didn’t care. It was because we cared too much. And despite all the bickering, all the teasing, there was a bond between us that no one could break. I’d die for him. He was my anchor when my temper flared, my tether to reality when my powers spiraled out of control.
Just as I was about to throw another sarcastic remark his way, Logan walked into the room, his usual gruff self. He barely acknowledged us, heading straight for the fridge. Typical.
“Hey, Logan!” I called, a mischievous grin spreading across my face. “Did you finally get that stick outta your ass, or is it still lodged in there pretty good?”
Logan froze mid reach for a beer, then slowly turned his head, giving me the look - the one that said 'I am not in the mood for your crap right now, bub.' But that just made it more fun.
“Don’t you have somethin’ better to do, hotshot?” he growled, slamming the fridge shut and twisting the cap off his beer with more force than necessary. “Or do you just live to run your mouth?”
I smirked, unfazed. “You know, it’s funny you say that, because I’ve noticed you love listening to me. Maybe it’s because no one else has the guts to call you out on your eternal grumpiness?”
Bobby snickered from beside me, enjoying the show. “She’s got a point, man. You’re not exactly known for your sunny disposition.”
Logan shot Bobby a glare before turning his attention back to me. “Maybe I’m grumpy ‘cause some people around here don’t know when to shut up.”
“Oh, come on, Logan. You’d miss me if I didn’t poke at you every now and then.” I said, leaning forward with a grin. “Admit it - you secretly love the banter.”
Logan let out a low, frustrated growl, shaking his head as he took a long swig from his beer. “The day I admit that, is the day hell freezes over. And even then, I’ll blame Bobby.”
Bobby grinned, raising his hands in mock surrender. “Hey, don’t drag me into your weird dynamic. I’m just the innocent bystander.”
I shot Bobby a mock glare. “Innocent? You? Yeah, sure. Tell that to the last five people you pranked.”
Logan huffed, clearly done with the conversation, but I wasn’t quite finished yet. “You know, Logan.” I continued, leaning back again and stretching my arms behind my head, “You really oughta work on that sunny disposition. You’re gonna give yourself wrinkles with all that frowning.”
He narrowed his eyes at me, jaw clenching. “Why don’t you mind your own damn business and keep that fire of yours under control?”
“Oh, I keep it very controlled, thank you very much.” I said, flashing a smile. “Besides, you seem to enjoy living dangerously. Why else would you keep hanging around us?”
Logan shook his head, muttering something under his breath before retreating to his usual corner of the room, beer in hand, grumbling the entire way. Bobby leaned in toward me, his voice low enough so only I could hear.
“I still think you’re his favorite.”
I laughed quietly, watching Logan brood from across the room. “Nah, he just hasn’t figured out how to handle all of this yet.” I gestured to myself with a playful smirk.
“Sure, that’s what it is.” Bobby chuckled, leaning back with a relaxed sigh.
Despite Logan’s gruff attitude and my constant teasing, there was a kind of unspoken respect between us. He was the first to step in when things got dangerous, always willing to put himself on the line for the team. And even though he’d never admit it, I knew he appreciated having someone who wasn’t afraid to challenge him, to call him out when he was being extra cranky. In a way, it kept things balanced.
Bobby and I exchanged another look, both of us knowing exactly how this dynamic worked. I teased Logan, Logan growled, and the world kept spinning. It was our version of normal - a delicate balance of sarcasm, snark, and the occasional grumpy Wolverine glare.
It was one of those rare moments when everything felt light, even if just for a little while. Days like these, with Bobby teasing me, and Logan grumbling from across the room, were the best. I’d give anything to hold onto them.
But life as an X-Men had a way of reminding you that those moments could be fleeting.
And I didn’t know then just how fleeting they would be.
Todays mission was supposed to be a standard takedown. Another mutant extremist group, radicalized and bent on 'mutant supremacy'. Charles had briefed us thoroughly, and we had faced worse before. Or at least we thought we had.
It went south almost immediately. We were outnumbered, and it was clear that our enemies had intel we weren’t prepared for. They knew where we would be, how we would strike, and worse - they knew how to separate us. That was when things really started to fall apart.
The battlefield was a mess of chaos and screaming. Blasts of energy, ice, and fire lit up the sky, while the air howled with the sound of Storm’s winds tearing through enemy lines. I was a blur of fire and fury, every step a combustion of flame as I ripped through the chaos, throwing up walls of fire to keep enemies at bay. But no matter how hard we fought, there were too many. We were getting spread thin. Too thin.
I caught sight of Bobby ahead of me, just in time to see him raise an enormous ice wall to shield a group of our teammates. His back was to me, and before I could shout a warning, a blast from one of the enemy’s weapons slammed into him, sending him sprawling across the ground.
“Bobby!” I screamed, my heart lurching.
He struggled to get up, one knee bent, but the blast had been too much. His walls of ice began to crack and crumble around him. Panic rose in my throat like bile. He was surrounded, the enemies closing in.
I pushed forward, flames erupting from my palms as I blasted through the mob, trying to reach him. “Hang on, I’m coming!” I shouted, but my voice barely cut through the cacophony of combat.
But I wasn’t fast enough.
Before I could get to him, a second blast hit him. The impact was devastating. I saw his body jerk violently before he collapsed, crumpling like a rag doll on the cold, scorched ground. Time seemed to slow, my breath caught in my throat, and everything else faded away.
“No!” My scream tore from my chest, broken and raw, but there was nothing I could do.
He was still, too still.
I scrambled toward him, my flames fizzling out as I dropped to my knees beside his body. I reached out, hands trembling as I gently touched his face. His skin was cold, colder than it should have been. His chest didn’t rise. His eyes were closed. My pulse pounded in my ears, but I couldn't hear anything except the roaring silence in my own head.
He was gone.
“Bobby, please…” I whispered, my voice cracking. “Please don’t leave me.”
I don’t know how long I sat there, holding him, begging for him to come back. I couldn’t save him. I. Couldn’t. Save. Him.
Then, something broke inside me.
The grief, the rage, the helplessness - everything surged at once, overwhelming every rational thought. The fire inside me, the power I always tried to control, flared up in an instant. It wasn’t just fire anymore - it was fury, pure and uncontrollable.
Flames erupted from my body, hotter and fiercer than they ever had before. I screamed, the sound ripping through the air as fire exploded in all directions, a supernova of heat and light. The ground beneath me cracked, molten lava seeping from the earth as the intensity of my power burned through everything in its path.
I couldn’t stop it. I didn’t want to.
The flames raged out, consuming everything they touched. The enemy soldiers who had killed Bobby screamed as they were incinerated, their bodies turning to ash in mere seconds. The ground smoked, trees around us igniting in a blaze, and the air became thick with heat.
Jean’s voice echoed in my mind, faint, as if she was shouting at me from the end of a long tunnel. “Y/n, stop! You have to stop!” Her voice was desperate, but I couldn’t listen. Couldn’t hear her over the roaring firestorm inside me.
Storm tried to summon her winds, pulling clouds thick with rain to douse the flames, but it wasn’t enough. Even the sky couldn’t hold back the inferno that had taken over me. I felt her power strain against mine, but my emotions fueled the fire, making it burn hotter, stronger. I was losing control completely, my body heating up like the core of a star.
“Y/n! You’re going to kill everyone!” Scott shouted through the comm, his voice barely audible over the roaring flames. I could see them, all of them, struggling to get away from the heat, the fire spreading in every direction.
Charles reached out, trying to touch my mind, but I was beyond reach. His calming presence couldn’t get through the thick walls of grief and rage that had consumed me.
I was going to burn everything. Everyone.
Then, through the haze of heat and fire, I saw him.
Logan.
He was moving toward me, slow and steady, ignoring the screams of the others as they begged him to stop.
“Logan, no! You’ll die!” Jean’s voice, frantic, but he didn’t listen.
“Logan, don’t!” Storm shouted, the wind whipping around her, but he kept walking, one foot in front of the other, his eyes locked on mine.
I couldn’t stop the fire. I was too far gone, too lost in my own power. The heat radiated off me in waves, scorching everything in its path, and yet he kept coming.
His skin started to blister almost immediately. The heat was unbearable, even from where I stood. I could see his face contorting in pain, could smell the sickening scent of burning flesh as he got closer. His clothes were already charred, the leather of his jacket melting and fusing to his skin. But he didn’t stop.
I wanted to scream at him to get back, to stop, but the words wouldn’t come. All I could do was watch in horror as he walked into the flames, his healing factor struggling to keep up as his body was scorched by the heat I was putting off.
And then he was there, standing right in front of me, his skin bright red, his hands trembling as the fire licked at his skin. His face was a mask of pain, sweat and blood mixing with the charred burns that covered his arms and neck. But his eyes, his eyes were steady.
“Y/n.” he said, his voice low and raspy, strained from the pain. “You need to stop.”
“I can’t!” I gasped, my breath catching as the flames flared up again, fueled by the storm of emotions inside me. “I can’t control it. I-I’m going to kill you, Logan!”
“I don’t care!" he growled, taking another step closer, his boots melting into the molten ground. His body trembled, his skin bubbling and cracking under the heat, but he didn’t back down. “I’m not leaving you.”
Tears streamed down my face, evaporating the moment they hit the air.
His eyes locked onto mine, unwavering, even as the flames licked at his skin. His face contorted in pain, but he didn’t stop.
“Bub.” he rasped, his voice hoarse from the heat. “You need to let go. I know it hurts, but you gotta stop.”
I couldn’t hear him over the roar of the fire. I was too far gone. The heat, the flames, my emotions - it was all consuming me. I was a supernova, and there was no pulling back.
Logan took another step. His healing factor was working overtime, but even he couldn’t withstand this for long. Yet, he didn’t hesitate.
“Y/n!” Logan yelled, louder this time, and I felt his words cut through the haze. “I know what it’s like! To lose someone - hell, to lose everyone! You feel like you’re gonna burn up inside. You feel like it’ll never stop, like you’ll never breathe again. But this ain’t the way!”
I felt the fire flare around me, almost as if it were trying to drown out his words. I wanted to listen, but the grief, the rage - it was still so raw. Bobby was gone. How could I stop the fire when everything inside me was screaming to let it burn?
But Logan didn’t back off. He stepped into the heart of the inferno, his arms opening, and wrapped me in a hug. The flames surged as they met his body, and I could feel his skin burning under my touch. I could smell it. His face twisted in agony, but he didn’t pull away.
“Let it out, hotshot. Let it all out,” Logan whispered, his voice softer now, almost tender. “But don’t burn yourself with it. You ain’t alone. I’m here.”
I could feel his chest rising and falling rapidly, his breaths ragged from the heat, but his arms around me were steady, grounding. In that moment, the fire faltered, flickering as my mind struggled to grasp what was happening.
Logan - the one person who could barely stand to be in the same room as me without a sarcastic remark - was holding me, burning alive in my fire, all because he wouldn’t leave me alone in my pain.
And then, I felt it.
The fire started to die down, the flames retreating into my skin as I began to sob against his chest. The heat that had consumed me so completely, so violently, began to ebb, leaving behind only the suffocating weight of grief. Logan’s chest was soaked with my tears as I clung to him, my body shaking with the force of my cries.
“I couldn’t save him, Logan." I choked out between sobs. “I couldn’t- ”
“I know." Logan murmured, his voice rough but soothing. “I know, bub. It’s not your fault.”
The last of the flames flickered out, and the air around us was suddenly cooler, still. Logan’s body, still blistered and burnt in places, didn’t move. He just held me tighter, letting me cry into his chest, never once letting go. I buried my face into the fabric of his ruined shirt, his heartbeat the only thing keeping me tethered to reality.
After what felt like forever, I became aware of the world around me again. The sounds of the battlefield had quieted. Jean, Storm, and the others were slowly approaching, their faces a mix of worry and relief.
“We need to get back to the mansion,” Scott said, his voice soft but firm. “Y/n, Logan… let’s go.”
Logan didn’t move to let me go, and I didn’t want him to. The thought of being alone right now, without the steady warmth of his presence, was unbearable.
“Can you walk?” Hank asked me.
Logan shook his head, giving a low grunt of pain as he stood up, still cradling me in his arms. “I got her.”
I felt Logan’s arms adjust under me as he began to walk, carrying me like I weighed nothing. I should’ve been worried about him, should’ve told him to let me go, but I couldn’t bring myself to. I pressed my face into his chest, feeling the burn marks on his skin, the roughness of his wounds. He was hurting because of me, but he didn’t care.
The journey back to the mansion felt like a blur, the sounds of the battlefield fading into silence as Logan carried me, step after step, his breathing labored but determined. I clung to him, my body exhausted, but my mind still racing with grief and guilt.
When we finally reached the mansion, Logan carried me straight to my room. He pushed the door open with his shoulder and laid me gently on my bed. His face was tense with pain, but his movements were careful and protective.
I reached out, grabbing his wrist as he turned to leave. “Don’t go... please.” I whispered, my voice barely audible. “I-I don’t wanna be alone.”
Logan’s eyes softened, just for a moment. He gave a small nod and sat down on the edge of the bed, his weight making the mattress dip slightly. He didn’t say anything, didn’t try to offer any more words of comfort, and for that, I was thankful. I didn’t need words. I just needed him to stay.
I curled into his side, my head resting against his chest once again. His heartbeat was slower now, more even, though his body was still warm from the burns. He didn’t flinch when I pressed closer, seeking the comfort of his presence. His arm wrapped around me, holding me close, and for the first time since Bobby died, I felt a small flicker of something like peace.
As I sobbed into Logan’s chest, my body exhausted from the emotional and physical strain, I felt his hand gently stroke my hair. He didn’t say anything, just let me cry. His presence as steady as the heartbeat beneath my cheek.
The tears slowly began to subside, my body relaxing into his as the exhaustion took over. I was grateful for the silence, grateful for the way Logan just was - strong, unyielding, and never pushing me for more than I could give.
Eventually, my eyes grew heavy, the grief and pain pulling me into a restless sleep. The last thing I remembered was the feel of Logan’s hand still in my hair, his quiet strength wrapping around me like a protective shield.
And for the first time in what felt like forever, I let myself drift into sleep, safe in his arms.

Carry the Burden
read on ao3 or below. 7.6k, tags: emotional hurt/comfort, mentions of past abuse, emotional/psychological abuse, depression, mentions of suicide, mentions of vomiting, love, care, no major character death
Summary:
With Buck, Tommy was an open book... mostly. There was one particular, very important chapter that he kept closed. He didn't bring up his childhood. Didn't mention his parents much. That was a part of his life no one but he and his therapist needed to know about. But a surprise visit from his father changes all that, and sends Tommy spiraling down a path he'd fought so hard to shun away.
They were on the couch, Buck laid out with his head on the arm rest and legs sprawled over Tommy's lap. Tommy had his own legs crossed and stretched out on the coffee table. Buck barely registered Tommy's phone buzzing as he reached and pulled it out of his pocket.
“Hm. Dad's in town.”
Tommy had been so nonchalant with his words that Buck was pretty sure he heard him wrong.
“What?” He asked as Tommy laid the phone beside him.
“My dad's here, apparently.” He didn't even look away from the TV as he spoke, keeping his focus on the basketball game.
They'd been sitting there for nearly half an hour now, Tommy watching the game while Buck did a deep dive on the history of mummification. It wasn't his first time researching the subject, but it was always good to get a refresher.
“Are you... are you going to see him?” Buck asked.
Tommy was an open book with Buck, mostly. It helped that Buck was always more than willing to share stories from his own past.
Tommy would talk about how he was a chubby kid growing up and got made fun of a lot for it. How he took up wrestling in high school. How he joined the military at seventeen, mostly to show his classmates just how strong he was. He'd go into detail about the missions he completed in the army, and the way it impacted his life to this day. He didn't shy away from who he was when he first became a firefighter. How he followed along with Gerrard because it was the easy thing to do. He made no excuses for himself.
Tommy talked about part of him wanting to stay at the 118 once Bobby came, but his past loomed over him like a dark cloud and, even though Hen and Chimney forgave him long ago, every time he walked into the station he was reminded of who he was and not who he wanted to be.
He talked about his first few weeks in therapy. How he went through three therapists before he found one he liked. How hard it was to come to terms with so many aspects of his life.
He still went to therapy, once a week, always on a Tuesday. That was one of his regular days off, and Buck knew there would always be a couple hours of radio silence from him then.
There was one aspect of his life that Tommy never really discussed in detail.
His parents.
It wasn't that he never mentioned them. Buck knew that his dad was not a good man, and that his mom died when he was young, but that's all Tommy had ever really said.
The scoff Tommy let out at Buck's question told him all he needed to know. “No, I- I will not be seeing him.”
Buck pushed himself up into a sitting position, bending his knees close to his chest. “How'd you find out he was in town?”
Tommy didn't have siblings. Didn't really have any extended family. None he was in regular contact with anyway.
“He texted me,” Tommy answered simply.
“I didn't even know he had your number.”
“Oh, he has it,” Tommy managed to look over at Buck and give him a grin that didn't quite reach the eyes, “he just rarely uses it.”
“But he is now?”
“Apparently.” Tommy turned back to the game, but Buck reached over and squeezed his forearm, regaining his attention.
“Hey, Tommy, use your words. I've never heard you mention your dad calling or texting you, but he suddenly is now? Is there a reason?”
Tommy sighed. He reached for his phone, unlocking it before handing it over to Buck. “That's all it says. He's not a man of many words,” he said, before mumbling out, “or many good words, at least.”
Buck read over the text:
In town. Let's talk. Stuff to figure out.
He handed Tommy his phone. “Are you gonna answer him, at least?”
Tommy shook his head. “No, I am not.”
“Aren't you a little curious...”
Buck's voice trailed off as Tommy reached for Buck's hand, gently tugging Buck towards him. Buck maneuvered himself until he was curled into Tommy's side, his head resting just below Tommy's shoulder. Tommy wrapped his arm around Buck, pressing a kiss to the top of his head. “I appreciate the concern,” he spoke quietly, “but this,” he added, lifting his phone, “is not happening.”
Buck understood issues with parents. He'd told that to Tommy so many times before. He'd gone over his life story time and time again, and Tommy always listened with the utmost care and consideration. He always seemed so happy for Buck too. Happy that he was able to, for the most part, work things out with his parents. They may not be on the best terms, and they'd probably never be what others considered a “close” family, but they were better. And that was good enough.
Still, Buck could tell that Tommy was done with the conversation, so he let it go.
“How much longer until the game is over?” he asked, changing the topic for Tommy's sake.
Tommy let out a laugh, shaking Buck slightly. “About ten minutes.”
Buck closed his eyes, settling further into Tommy's side, “Wake me up when it's over.”
*****
They'd been together six months now, had exchanged keys a couple months in, but Buck still felt a thrill every time he walked into Tommy's place knowing Tommy wouldn't actually be there yet.
Something about it just felt so domestic. And Buck loved that feeling.
They'd already discussed moving in together. If they both had a night off, they were never apart, instead switching between each place depending on what errands they had planned for the next day.
Buck had another two months to go on his lease, so they decided to hold out on actually moving in together until then. There was no reason to deny him getting his security deposit back, or being forced to pay rent for an apartment he was no longer living in.
Still, Buck preferred Tommy's house. It was an older place, and not very big, but it had a nice garage for working out and a good kitchen that Buck enjoyed cooking in.
Which was why he came to Tommy's today. Tommy was working, but he'd be off by six, and Buck wanted to have a good dinner ready for him to come home to. Bobby had given him a recipe for something called Marry Me Chicken, and well, who was Buck kidding, that was the ultimate goal.
They would be the first to admit they were a bit unconventional. Besides swapping keys two months into their relationship, they had discussed whether or not children were in their future on date number four.
Tommy never really let go of the fact Buck invited him to his sister's wedding after one failed date.
They had sex on Buck's balcony before they had it in his bed.
They said I love you for the first time in month three, when Buck was deathly ill with a stomach bug and somehow got vomit in his hair. Tommy got him in the shower, letting Buck rest all of his body weight on him as he cleaned him up. Wrapped in Tommy's arms, head resting on his chest, eyes closed as water and soap flowed down his body, and the taste of throw up still on his tongue no matter how many times he brushed and used mouthwash, he uttered out an “I love you” to Tommy. He didn't even care if Tommy said it back, but Tommy did. He pressed a kiss to Buck's temple, dragging a wash cloth down his back, and said, “I love you too, Evan. So much.” That wasn't just the day Buck knew he loved Tommy, it was the day he knew he wanted to marry Tommy.
And, no, the chicken wasn't going to be a proposal. That wouldn't be happening until after they had officially lived together for a while- which had been a discussion during date number six.
But the name of the recipe, the words marry me, made Buck feel soft in a way that almost felt ridiculous, especially since it was literally just a recipe for chicken breast.
Buck had just placed the chicken in the oven when there was a knock on the door.
He rolled his eyes. Tommy often came home with his hands full, opting to carry most of his items separately instead of placing them in his duffel.
“One of these days I'm not gonna answer,” Buck called out as he neared the door, “just to teach you a le- Oh.”
The words died out on his tongue when he was met at the door by an older man that was very much not Tommy.
This man had thirty or so years on Buck, and was a few inches taller too. He was broad- really broad. Like Tommy, but on steroids.
“Uh, sorry, I- I thought you were someone else,” Buck began after he collected himself. “Can I help you?”
“Is this Thomas Kinard's place?” The man's voice was gruff. The kind of voice you get after smoking a pack a day for years on end.
“It is.”
“You're not him.”
“I'm not.”
“Where is he?”
Well, this conversation was going swimmingly!
“I- I'm sorry, who... are you?”
“Right,” the man held out his hand, although the scowl on his face remained. “Charles Kinard.”
Buck couldn't hide the surprise on his face after hearing the name. He shook Charles' hand, which held on a bit too tightly. “Oh! Oh, you're Tommy's dad.”
“'S'what it says on the birth certificate.”
Once Charles let go, Buck moved out of the way, allowing him to come inside. “Come in. Sorry, I was, um, not expecting anyone. I'm Evan Buckley, um, Buck, by the way. Sorry.”
“You apologize a lot,” Charles noted as he walked farther into the house, eyes drifting around the place.
“Yeah, I- I know. Sor- uh, Tommy should be home pretty soon. He's been working. Was he... Did he know you were coming?”
He cringed at the question, knowing it was an odd thing to ask. He was still trying to catch up with what was going on. Tommy hadn't mentioned his father since three days ago, when he got the text he never answered. Maybe he had ended up answering and just never said anything to Buck, but that wasn't like Tommy.
“Not really,” Charles answered, finally turning to face Buck. “Who are you?” he asked, eying Buck up and down. Buck wasn't really sure if Charles was looking at him, or his apron, which he now remembered said, 'I like my meat rubbed, jerked, and pulled!'
Buck untied the apron and unceremoniously pulled it off of him, crumpling it up in his hand. He realized in that moment that he had no idea what Tommy's dad actually knew, or didn't know, about him. “I'm his friend,” he settled on, “from work.”
“You work together?”
Buck nodded. “Sort of. Different stations, but, yeah, um, yes we're both firefighters.”
“Mm.”
“Uh, why don't you have a seat,” Buck suggested, motioning toward the living room as he stepped closer to Charles. “Tommy won't be too much longer now.”
Charles moseyed into the living room, glancing around at the décor before taking a seat on the couch. “You come over and cook for your friend while he works?” Charles asked as Buck returned to the kitchen.
He wanted to text Tommy, or call him, and let him know what was happening, but he knew he couldn't. He couldn't exactly talk about his dad while he was right in front of him, and Tommy wouldn't check a text when he was driving.
“I, uh, I like to cook,” Buck started, trying to think of an explanation that didn't sound too ridiculous. “And he's got a good kitchen, so I come over, um, sometimes to cook. I- I pay with food.” God, he was an idiot.
Another grunt like sound came from Charles, and Buck was about ninety percent sure he didn't buy it.
Buck wasn't sure how to communicate with the man. He was usually pretty good about stuff like this. He could make up random things to talk about with anyone, whether they wanted to hear it or not. But this was his boyfriend's father who didn't know for sure that Buck was Tommy's boyfriend, and all the questions that were coming to Buck's mind were only questions a significant other would ask their partner's parents.
“So, Mr. Kinard,” Buck began, beginning to slice a cucumber. He wasn't even planning on using a cucumber for anything tonight, but he needed something to do.
“Charles.”
“Charles, um, what... are you visiting LA?”
“Yeah.”
“Oh, good. That's... that's good. I'm sure Tommy will be happy to see you.”
Yet another grunt. This one almost sounded like a snort. Buck leaned over slightly to get a look at the man, who was staring straight ahead, eyes fixed on the turned off TV in front of him.
“You should stay for dinner,” Buck suggested, hating himself as the words left his mouth. “There's gonna plenty.” That was true. He always made enough for leftovers.
“Okay.”
This truly was a man of few words.
Buck was just about to tell him he could turn on the TV and watch something when he heard the sound of keys jiggling in the doorknob.
The door opened before Buck could get to it.
“Oh my God, Evan, what smells so good? I could smell it from outside,” Tommy said, walking inside. Buck met him at the entryway.
“Just chicken. Um, Tommy-”
Tommy dropped his duffel at the door, “I even put my stuff in it this time,” he said, wiggling his eyebrows as he grabbed at Buck's shirt to pull him in for a kiss. Usually, Buck would've been thrilled. Told him it was about damn time and asked if he could take a picture to remember this moment forever.
Instead, he quickly pulled away from the kiss and unwrapped himself from Tommy's touch.
“We have a visitor, Tommy,” Buck said when he was met with a confused face. “You do, I mean.”
“I was wondering who's car was out front,” Tommy replied. “Figured the neighbors were having another party or something.”
“No, um, it's...” Buck's voice trailed off. He could tell Charles was somewhere behind him now. Could see that Tommy's eyes trailed from looking at him to looking at his father. Whatever was left of the smile on his face disappeared, his skin paling.
Part of Buck wished he could disappear. Just melt into the floor and turn into a puddle of goo.
The other part of him had the urge to stand between the two men forever, making sure Tommy was protected from whatever pain his father had obviously caused him.
Buck had never seen the look on Tommy's face before. It looked like fear and sadness, mixed with rage.
“What are you doing here?” Tommy asked as Buck stepped to the side to get out of the way.
“Well, hello to you too, TJ.”
TJ? That was new.
“Don't call me that. What are you doing here? How'd you find my house?”
The problem with where Buck was standing, was that he couldn't move toward the kitchen without walking directly in front of the two men, and he wasn't sure this was a good moment to move.
“I'm not an idiot. You own the place, I looked it up. I texted you when I got to town.”
“I know you did.” Tommy shrugged off his jacket, dropping it on top of his duffel bag. “Thought you'd get the hint when I didn't answer.”
“You know how I am with subtleties.”
“Not answering a single one of your texts for three years is not exactly subtle, Dad.”
Buck could not do this any longer. He could feel Charles' eyes on him and, if he was going to be Tommy's friend, he couldn't exactly go into protective-boyfriend mode.
“I'm gonna,” he pointed toward the kitchen, “just go over there.”
Tommy waited for Buck to be out of the room before continuing. “You need to go,” he said, staring his father dead in the eyes.
“Hm. Thought you wanted to know what I was doing here?”
“Decided I don't care.”
Charles smiled. It didn't reach his eyes the way Tommy's did. There were no laughter lines, no scrunched up nose. Just a meaningless smile. “You're lookin' good, TJ. Lower BMI than the last time I saw you. That's good.”
Buck wasn't sure if he was hearing things correctly. Who says that to their kid after not seeing them for years?
“And you're looking me in the eyes. You always struggled with that before.”
“It's easier now that I'm too big for you to hit.”
Buck sucked in a breath. It was impossible to not overhear the conversation. With the open floor plan, Buck could still see Charles, although he didn't have a view of Tommy.
Charles laughed. A deep, guttural laugh that made Buck feel uneasy. “You're never too big for that, T-”
“You need to go. Now.”
“Hang on a minute,” Charles said, waving Tommy off. “I gotta talk to you about my will.”
“I don't give a damn about your will.”
“I've got fifty acres of land in Colorado, TJ. Been in the family for generations.”
“You've got a double wide trailer on that dump of land and couldn't get rid of it if you tried. I don't want it.”
Buck could hear shuffling, so he quickly picked up a knife to make it look like he'd been chopping away at that same cucumber from earlier.
Tommy entered the kitchen, washing his hands at the sink before turning to Buck. “Need help with anything, Ev?”
“N- No, um, no, I'm good.”
“I'm not getting any younger, TJ.”
Tommy placed a hand on Buck's lower back. It was as though it was an anchor for him. Something to keep him steady.
He glared over at his dad. “You're still here?”
“Don't be dumb, Thomas. I'm not leaving until we talk about this. Besides, your friend here invited me for dinner.”
The hand on Buck's back stiffened, before being removed completely. He turned his head toward Buck. “You did?”
“I- I thought you two might, um, might want to catch up.”
He hoped Tommy could read between the lines. Hoped he understood what Buck was really trying to say.
“I felt like I had no other choice. This was really awkward, even for me, and I panicked. Please, don't hate me.”
“That's kind of you, Evan,” Tommy replied, his attention returning to his father, “but we don't have anything to catch up on.”
“Hey! Don't stand there acting like I'm the problem,” Charles said, crossing the room in three steps. Buck could feel Tommy stiffen beside him. “You're the one who left, not me! I've been the one contacting you. You can act like I'm a terrible father all you want, but I'm the one that helped you be something!”
“You didn't help me! I ran from you! I was seventeen years old, Dad, joining the army to get away from you!”
Buck wanted to say something. Wanted to kick the man out of the house, or at least hold up his bowl of finely chopped cucumber and ask if anyone wanted a bite.
But, this wasn't his house. Not yet, anyway. And, somehow, he felt responsible for this whole debacle. He couldn't stop thinking about how he should have done things differently. He shouldn't have let Charles in the house. Shouldn't have attempted to make conversation. Shouldn't have invited him to stay for dinner. Should have figured out a way to call and warn Tommy. Should have texted him anyway; maybe he would have read it before getting out of his truck.
“You know, I really should have known better,” Charles said, shaking his head. “Should have known you wouldn't want to help your old man out.”
“Help you out?” Tommy asked, exasperated. “I have done nothing but help you out for years! I bailed you out of jail three times. I paid your gambling debts for you. I took a second mortgage out on my home so I could pay your back taxes! If I didn't stop answering your messages, I'd be living on the streets! And now you want to come talk about a will? On property that you've nearly foreclosed on twice? I'm surprised you even have that place any-” he stopped mid sentence. Buck glanced over at him, worried something had happened.
“You're about to lose the property, aren't you?” Tommy asked. That made much more sense.
“Now, just listen-”
“You're really here to have me buy the property, and give you the money, so you can go blow it on booze and steroids and hookers and whatever else you feel like.”
“This is what family does, TJ,” Charles said, pointing at Tommy as he eyed him down. “They help each other when they're in need.”
“When have you ever helped me, Dad?” Tommy asked. His voice was different now. Resigned, almost. “Never.”
“I don't need to stand here and listen to these lies in front of your friend!”
Tommy scoffed. “I think you know he's more than a friend.”
“Yeah, I do know. He's been bumbling like an idiot since I got here.”
Buck could feel his face turning red. He wasn't embarrassed by Charles' words, more surprised by the man's lack of filter.
“Get out.” Tommy demanded. “Now!”
Charles moved even closer, a tight fist placed on the countertop of the island. “You owe me!” he spit out through gritted teeth. “The embarrassment you have caused me. Being the way you are, having to answer questions from my friends! I have been trying to knock sense into you for years!”
“Maybe I was too busy lying to doctors in the hospital for the sense to really get knocked in there!”
“Pathetic,” Charles said, before mumbling out, “like your mother.”
“Get out.” It was Buck's voice this time. It no longer mattered to him that this wasn't his home. He didn't care if he was overstepping. Tommy could be mad if he wanted.
For as little as Buck knew about Tommy's family, he did see the way Tommy's eyes got red and glassy when he mentioned his mom. How he'd clear his throat and say she was a good woman, a great mom, gone too soon. From what he'd pieced together on his own, it was a suicide.
Tommy had never said as much, but he came to Buck's after a particularly bad shift. Buck hadn't even been expecting him. He showed up at the door, eyes blank, mind somewhere far away. He'd even forgotten he had a key of his own.
He'd curled into Buck the second the door opened, arms tight around Buck's waist and head turned into the crook of his neck.
Buck squeezed him back just as tight. Asked if he was okay, accepted the silence in return. They stayed there for a while, until Buck was finally able to convince Tommy to move to the couch.
Tommy snuggled up to Buck's side the second they sat down. He laid his head on Buck's chest, one arm curled between them and the other resting over Buck's stomach. They'd rested like this before, but this was the first time Buck ever thought that Tommy looked small. Not physically, obviously, but the way he acted was like a child in desperate need of comfort.
So that's what Buck did.
It was the longest thirty minutes of silence before Tommy spoke. “I worked the ground today,” he explained through a shaky voice, making no effort to move off of Buck. “We were short-staffed. There was a call. A kid found... he found his mom. She was in the bathtub. She was already,” he swallowed down a sob, “she was gone already. He was freaking out. I waited un- until his dad got there to be with him.”
“That's terrible, Tommy,” Buck said, running a soothing hand up and down Tommy's bicep.
“It just... it reminded me-” he cut himself off, took a deep breath, “I like being in the air.”
Buck wasn't dumb. He could put together a puzzle that was missing half its pieces. He knew better than to press the issue. Knew what Tommy needed right now was simply to be held.
So he held him.
He held him until Tommy's breaths evened out and the sun had long set.
And now, with Charles in front of him, it was all Buck could think about. That moment replaying in his mind as Tommy's father spewed venom from across the counter.
“If you're not out of here in ten seconds, I'll call the police for trespassing, and you seem like the type who has warrants waiting for them.”
Charles opened his mouth to speak, but Buck grabbed for the phone in his pocket.
The older man held his hands up in surrender and, without another word, turned and left the house.
There were a few beats of silence before Buck spoke. “Tommy, I-”
“I need to go for a walk.” Tommy's voice was stoic.
Buck didn't like that. He followed behind Tommy as he headed for the door. “Do you want me to come with you?” he asked.
Tommy picked up his jacket and slipped it on. “No, I'm fine.”
“Tommy, I don't-”
Tommy stopped in the open doorway, hand still on the knob but halfway out the door already. “Evan, I'm fine,” he repeated. His voice wavered this time. Only slightly, but enough for Buck to catch it. “I just need a minute.”
Buck nodded, pursing his lips together. “Yeah, okay.”
He stood there long after the door had closed.
*****
A cool breeze filled the air as Tommy walked down his street. He stuck his hands in his jacket pockets as a chill came over him.
He was tense. He kept trying to make sense of the thoughts in his head, but everything felt all jumbled.
He'd been doing so well. Therapy had helped him work through so many of the issues he had with his dad. Had helped him cut off contact. He stopped enabling the man and set himself free of him.
The only reason he didn't block his dad's number was because he knew, one day, a police officer or one of his dad's deadbeat friends would be calling to say he was dead. Even if he cared nothing for the man, he'd still like to know when it was all over.
There were times Tommy would sit and think about the things he'd say if he ever came face to face with his dad again. He had a list. All the ways his dad had screwed him over throughout his entire life.
And then the one time he actually did come face to face with the man after all these years, he didn't say a single damn thing he'd written down.
He knew he'd never get the chance again.
Knew his dad wouldn't really care anyway. He never cared about the pain he caused, even when Tommy was a little kid.
His jaw tensed. He could feel the sting of tears in his eyes, but he didn't let them fall. He didn't want to cry anyway. He wanted to be mad.
That's what his dad always got angry at him for. Tommy would get upset, and he'd cry. His dad would yell, and he'd cry. His dad would hit him, he'd cry. His dad would hit him harder because he was crying, he'd cry even more.
Kids at school would make fun of his weight.
His dad would make him run laps until he'd puke.
He'd avoid eye contact to try and not be noticed.
He'd cry.
He'd cry.
He'd cry.
Not now though. Now he could hold it in. He finally learned that as a teenager. Perfected it over time. His therapist helped him with that too; taught him not to hold in his emotions. For the most part, he didn't anymore, he'd let himself feel whatever he was feeling. Right now he needed to control something, and this was the something he could control.
So he didn't cry.
But he let himself be mad.
Because he was so damn mad.
Mad at himself.
Mad at his dad.
Mad at him showing up to his house, invading his safe space, a space that had been free and clear of the trauma of his youth.
Now, every time he'd step in that house he'd see his dad there.
He hated that.
As much as he hated to admit it, a part of him was mad at Buck too.
No, mad wasn't the right word.
Envious, maybe.
Every time Buck talked about his parents, a twinge of envy sparked inside of Tommy. He knew it was stupid. He didn't even particularly like Buck's parents. He definitely didn't like who they used to be, how they used to treat their son.
But, to their credit, they had been trying now.
And that's where the envy came in.
Because Buck's parents went to therapy with him. They started showing up, being there for their kids, through good and bad, even when they weren't comfortable.
And yeah, they were a little late, and not all wounds ever completely heal. There were still problems, and they were always a bit on edge when Tommy was around, but they were there.
They still put on a smile for Buck, however forced, and corrected themselves when they called him Evan.
They'd never hit their kids. Sure, they were a little too busy ignoring them, but Maddie and Buck never had to be afraid of their parents.
“We were invisible,” Buck had told him once.
Tommy didn't say it, he'd never speak the words out loud, because he knew how much being invisible hurt Buck. But, the first thing Tommy thought when he heard that was I wish I could've been invisible too.
Even thinking something like that made Tommy feel like a bad person. Actually, he often felt like a bad person. A terrible, terrible person who was so undeserving of any forgiveness, happiness, and love. He'd think about who he became in the military. Closed off, angry, ruthless at times. He'd killed people. He didn't think about it. Just dropped the bomb on whatever target he'd been told to hit. They were just targets. Living, breathing targets. He'd hear reports of kids getting hit with missiles, innocent casualties who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. But that was war, and you didn't get emotional with war. Until you got home and you had to reason with who you'd become.
Then he'd think of who he became when he got hired as a firefighter. More closed off, angrier, trying to make up for what he'd done by saving lives instead of taking them. But, no matter how many saves he got, it didn't make up for the kills. And you could get close to people, but you'd probably lose them just like you did in the military, so why have a friend if they're just gonna die anyway?
Plus, there was Gerrard. Gerrard, who was so much like his dad in so many ways. A crass bastard who didn't care who he offended or how he mistreated people. Tears were a weakness, emotions were a weakness, and Tommy was tired of people thinking he was weak. So, he made sure he wasn't.
The difference between his dad and Gerrard was that, if you fit in with Gerrard, he wouldn't bother you as much.
His dad bothered him regardless.
Tommy was not a good person when he had Gerrard as a boss. At first, he blamed Gerrard. Healing came when he took responsibility for himself.
Even with the healing; with leaving the 118 and starting over. With getting therapy and changing his mindset and forgiving himself, there were times when he felt like the biggest fraud in the world. Because he may have forgiven himself, but he didn't deserve the forgiveness of the people around him.
He didn't deserve the friendship of Howie or Hen. He didn't deserve Eddie, who was always excited to hang out. He didn't deserve weekly dinners with Bobby and Athena, who would ask him about his week and listen to his stories. He didn't deserve Maddie, who was ready and waiting to watch The Bachelor each week with wine and a cheeseboard.
He definitely didn't deserve Evan.
Evan.
Who was always there, no matter what. Wore his heart on his sleeve, would do anything for anyone, Evan.
Evan, who was a soft kiss after a hard day. Who's body fit with Tommy's like two puzzle pieces that were finally placed together. Stubborn, smart, bold, unafraid, open, honest, loving, kind, adorable, Evan.
He'd talked to his therapist about it one day. Things were going too well, his life felt too good, and that nagging voice drudged its way up from the back of his mind to repeat over and over you don't deserve it, you don't deserve it, you don't deserve it.
Then his therapist asked him a simple question. “When you hear the voice, is it your voice, or is it your father?”
After thinking about it for a while, Tommy answered, “A morphing of the two. Starts as him, ends as me.”
A nod. “Let's dissect that.”
They did.
It sucked.
But it helped too. It didn't make the feeling go away, but it did help him recognize that what he was feeling didn't just stem from the choices he made as an adult, it started all the way back when he was a child. When he was told, time and time again, how he didn't deserve good things.
Oftentimes, Tommy felt like his mind was a cruel joke that liked to play, well, mind games on him. As soon as he'd push through his feelings of being undeserving, his brain would laugh and tell him he was pitying himself. Making himself the victim when, in the majority of the things he did as an adult, he was in fact notthe victim. This would, in turn, make him feel undeserving of feeling undeserving.
“My mind is a very screwy place,” he said on a particularly grouchy day at therapy. “Truly can't believe they let me fly an aircraft.”
“It sounds kind of like you're torturing yourself for not being perfect.”
“I feel like the more I try to learn and grow from my past, to- to move on from it, it throws itself right back up in my face. I try. I really, really try to let it go, but I can't.”
“I know it's a sensitive topic for you, Tommy, but-”
“No.” Tommy knew where this was going. “No, it's not that.”
A sigh. “Tommy, how old are you?”
He was not in the mood for this today. “Forty-one.”
“And how old was your mother when she passed?”
“Forty-two.”
“I know you've mentioned before how she held onto her guilt. She felt hopeless. Worthless. Let it eat away at her. Your words.”
“I'm not like that. I'm not... I wouldn't do that. I don't feel that way.”
“I'm not saying that you do. I'm saying, sometimes, the reason we feel certain ways stems from our parents, grandparents, etcetera.”
Tommy uncrossed his legs, picked at a string hanging from his jeans. “Can we change the subject? Evan and I have a date tonight and I don't wanna be bitchy when I pick him up.”
*****
Tommy continued down the sidewalk, the only light from the street lamps above him. Occasionally, he'd hear a dog bark or a bird chirp but it was mostly quiet.
He was a couple miles from home now. He knew he should be heading back. His anger had mostly died down to something else by now. Something he couldn't really explain.
Emptiness, maybe?
Yet another word he'd used to describe his mother before.
But, he wasn't like her. He could always get out of bed. He didn't have problems brushing his teeth. He didn't let himself go. He never lost his appetite. He never felt like downing an entire bottle of pills on a regular Sunday afternoon. Would never think of risking his future child walking in the room, excited to tell him about winning the little league game, and instead find him on the floor, long gone.
“I'm the complete opposite of her,” Tommy said at his next session, still annoyed from the previous week. “I don't call out of work, I take extra shifts, I always have something planned when I'm off. I'm in a stable relationship which, yeah, I've only been in for five months, but it's been the best five months of my life. I manage everything fine. Sometimes my mind is just a dick to me.”
“Depression is different for everyone,” his apparently all knowing therapist replied. “Some people have all the symptoms, some have a few, none are exactly alike. There's levels to it, different kinds.”
Tommy slumped back on the couch, sighing as he stared out the window. “Well, that really sucks.”
He tried to be open with Evan. He'd told him so much about his life, about who he was. Evan knew everything about Tommy's time in the military. He knew what Tommy was like when he worked under Gerrard. He knew all the ways Tommy had struggled with himself and his sexuality. He knew all the bad parts, and he loved him anyway.
“I've made so many versions of myself, Tommy,” Buck told him one day, “I think I lost count at 5.0. They're all still me though. I wouldn't be here if I was never there, and I really, really like being here. Sometimes the crappy stuff makes you better in the end.”
Maybe it wasn't as well spoken as something his therapist would have said, but Tommy understood. No matter what, Evan wasn't going anywhere. He wasn't scared off by Tommy. Didn't judge him. He loved him. They loved each other.
Still, as Tommy walked the desolate street, he couldn't help the new voice inside his head. This one was his alone. It was telling him that, as open as he'd been, he'd still closed off a huge part of his life to Evan. It wasn't even necessarily intentional, it was just easier. Easier to avoid the topic altogether. However, it wasn't exactly fair.
He could hear his therapist in his mind, asking him the questions. “Why do you think you've closed that part of yourself off to Buck?”
He'd answer, “I don't exactly like revisiting the subject.”
“Do you not trust him with that part of your life?”
“Of course I do! I trust him with every part of my life.”
“Then why don't you tell him?”
“Because...”
“Because?”
Tommy would feel like pulling out his hair at this point. “Because I have spent so many years letting those parts of me go!”
“Have you really let them go? Unless you hit your head and get amnesia, is that even possible? Wouldn't it be easier if you let your partner help carry the burden when it gets hard for you?”
“He doesn't need to carry my burdens.”
“Don't you help carry his?”
On the street, Tommy stopped in his tracks. He groaned, staring up at the sky as if his therapist was some ethereal being. “I hate you,” he mumbled, before turning around and heading back home.
*****
He opened the door expecting to be hit with the ghost of his father standing there just hours earlier. Instead, he was met with the sight of Evan. Straight ahead at the kitchen table. He plopped his phone down on the table and stared up at Tommy, eyes wide and wet.
“Hi,” Buck said softly. He eyed Tommy carefully, trying to gauge the mood.
Tommy let out a shaky breath. “Hi,” he replied, shrugging off his jacket and, once again, placing it on top of the duffel that hadn't moved.
“I was worried about you. You didn't take your phone and I- you were gone a long time.”
“I'm sorry. I didn't realize.” He really hadn't. He forgot he had ever put it in his duffel in the first place, usually opting to keep it in his pocket the majority of the time.
“S'okay.”
Tommy walked over to the table, pulled out the chair next to Buck, and sat down.
“I'm sorry, Evan,” Tommy repeated, for a different reason this time. “I shouldn't have left like that.”
“You don't need to be sorry.” Buck sat up straighter, splaying his hands out on the table. “I'm sorry. I had no idea your dad was like that. If I did, I never would have let him in your house.”
“Our house,” Tommy corrected. “Soon enough, anyway. You don't need to be sorry either. You didn't do anything wrong.”
Buck smiled at him, turning one hand up for Tommy to take. “Can neither of us be sorry instead then?”
Tommy held onto it, Buck's touch relaxing him in the way it always did. “Sounds good to me.”
“Are you hungry? I left the food in the oven on warm, just in case.”
Tommy nodded. “Yeah, I am actually. I'll get it though, you relax.” He squeezed Buck's hand as he got up. Before walking away, he leaned down, pressing a kiss to Buck's temple. When he began to pull away, Buck held onto his shirt, turning his head and giving him a real kiss. He moved his hands up to Tommy's face, stroking his thumbs along his cheeks as he did his best to project all his love into the kiss.
Tommy looked dazed as they parted. “I think I need to go on walks more often.”
Buck rolled his eyes, swatting at Tommy's butt as he walked off. “Ass.”
“And you love it.”
“I suppose I do.”
“So, what'd you make?” Tommy asked, putting on some oven mitts before pulling the dish out of the oven.
“You're, uh, not allowed to laugh at the name. It's a recipe I got from Bobby, but he got it from the internet or something.”
“Oh God, did you make that goat in the boat dish again?”
“It was toad in the hole, and you loved it!”
“Mm,” Tommy hummed. He got out a couple plates and started plating the food. “What's it called?” he asked again.
“It's... It's called, um, it's Marry Me Chicken.”
After a beat of silence, Buck looked over to see Tommy staring at him, an eyebrow raised. “Evan Buckley, are you proposing to me over a chicken dish?”
Another eye roll. “Absolutely not.”
“You know the saying, the way to a man's heart is through his stomach.”
“And all this time I thought it was through his ass.”
“Aye!”
Buck laughed, resting his chin on his hand as he watched Tommy finish up in the kitchen. “There's also some very finely chopped cucumber in the fridge if you'd like that as well, but it's not part of the dish.”
“Still a delightful addition to any meal,” Tommy replied, grabbing the bowl out of the fridge. He balanced it on his wrist before picking up the plates and bringing them to the table. “This looks amazing, Ev.”
“I hope it tastes good.”
“I'm sure it will.”
As Tommy and Buck both began to cut up their pieces of chicken, Tommy glanced over at his boyfriend. “So, um, tonight was... it was a lot.”
“Yeah, it was.”
“I wanted to...” Tommy's voice trailed off, unsure of how to articulate what he wanted to say. He put down his cutlery and focused on Buck. “I was thinking on my walk about how open you've always been, talking about your mom and dad. Even the hard stuff, the uncomfortable stuff, you share it all. I- I haven't done that with you, Evan. That's not fair to you.”
“I've never felt that way,” Buck assured him. “I understood.”
“Still, I- I've always shared everything with you, besides that. It's not even the worst parts of me, really. I know... I know that stuff, when I was a kid, I know none of that was my fault. I think part of me felt like if I ignored it forever, it would eventually go away.” He shook his head. “It doesn't go away.”
Once again, Buck held out a hand for Tommy to take, connecting them on top of the table. “I'm here. Whenever you're ready. Now. Ten years from now. Whenever.”
Ten years from now. Those words hit him hard. He could feel his heart swell.
They were forever. Evan was his forever.
He took a deep breath, his residual anxieties melting away. “There's a lot about my parents you don't know.”
“Practically everything,” Buck agreed.
Tommy let out a laugh. “Well, I'd like to change that,” he replied, sharing a soft smile with Buck.
“Are you sure?” he asked. “Because we don't have to right now, if you're not ready.”
“No, I'm ready,” he answered. He squeezed Buck's hand tighter. “There's a lot to talk about with my dad,” he started, grabbing up his fork with his free hand to pierce a piece of the chicken, “but I think I want to start with my mom. She was... She was a lot like me.”
Buck nodded, smiling gently. “I love her already.”

I was thinking about how this season of 9-1-1 was described as introducing the show and characters all over again and realized we can see that extremely clearly just from the trailers and what we know of the first 3 episodes so far.
So, like, what would you show a potentially new audience about each character:
Bobbie:
118 Captain (with the team’s concern for him and him going into firefighter mode in the ship to save as many people as possible)
Athena’s loving husband
Recovering alcoholic (probably part of his conflict with Athena in the cruise?)
Athena:
Brilliant and deductive cop (during the ship’s abduction)
Bobby’s loving wife
Cannot turn her cop brain off for a second and relax (I’m guessing part of the conflict in the cruise??)
Hen:
Leader: interim captain during Bobbie’s absence
Inquisitive: first one to realize the cruise is missing
PREDICTION: introducing her and Karen’s fight to adopt
PREDICTION: stablishing her and Chim as bffs
Chim:
The heart of the 118, sensitive and kind (reassuring victims in the accident but also probably losing someone on the field based on the promos)
His and Maddie’s love and relationship after the fact
Im guessing more of him and Hen?
Also we are probably going to see a lot of his sense of humor during times of pressure
Maddie:
Very protective of her own (looks for Cap as soon as Hen comes to her)
Her and Chim’s love and relationship
Willing to bend the rules (I’m guessing she wasn’t SUPPOSED to call Chim and tell him this)
Maybe Buckley siblings relationship?
Good under pressure even when her loved ones are involved
Buck:
Good under pressure. Brave to the point of reckless (him carrying that rocket firing the jet incident?? Probably jumping in to save Bobby??)
Actively working on his personal growth and happiness (Oliver said the Natalia situation would be addressed early on)
Maybe Buckley siblings dynamic
Willing to walk through fire for the 118, especially Bobby
Buckley-Diaz dynamic having him act as Chris’s co-parent
Eddie
Single parent (struggling with Chris’s dating life)
Not confident in his romance skills (see above)
His friendship with Buck (turning to him when in need)
Calm and efficient under pressure (the jet mirroring the grenade incident)
Willing to break the rules for his team (going to find Bobby’s cruise)

The villainization of Bad is perplexing to me for a lot of reasons. Fandom wanting him to pay for his actions when he didn’t even have the highest kill rate in purgatory on his team… Bad and Tubbo had the same amount of kills day 1. Bad was probably killed more by red team then he killed yet still its not enough for the red fandom.
also regarding Dapper. ‘Bad’s actions made it so no one would help dapper’…. Bad would never hold a parents actions against a child. Leo actively helped Vegetta and Roier place bombs all over Bad and Dappers farm house causing them to move. And even when they moved Bad still included Leo on the allow list. He loves Leo. Dapper really admired Vegetta and wanted to speak with him but was struck by him for teasing Foolish.
Bad teases and tricks and lies about unimportant things, steals furniture and he has trust issues yes, but he also counter balances that by providing others with lavish gifts and items and knowledge that takes hours to do. He repairs broken machines the kids have done for there parents, he takes care of the kids so no one dies of neglect, he keeps people company, he’s provided so much countless food and armor and exp to everyone at such volume its absurd to count. He made spawn so that it would be easy for others to get around when they died and constantly refills the xp.
He’s rp an actual demon but genuinely most of Bad’s actions while surface level inconvenient in depth he’s ridiculously generous and kind. The only time of him ‘cutting loose’ being in a game that was designed for killing and his son instructed him too. So many in the fandom gave weight to Chayanne’s message but for Dapper it was :eyeroll: whatever. Dapper who had been self harming themselves to help aid his siblings and other islanders was instructing Bad to run over other islanders, he wouldn’t say that unless it was important.
I can understand not liking a character theirs plenty I dont personally find my cup of tea but that doesnt make them evil. Its so strange to me that the fandom finds Bbh to be ‘the worst’ narratively, when Slime actively tried to murder Dapper and the other kids, Cellbit has gone full serial killer, Vegetta nearly killed Bobby with bombs, Forever lashed out in anger at Leo yet Bad stealing furniture that can be replaced by sticks and wool is the absolute dread of the server. Bad in a killing game was mean when others were mean and one of the few members of his team that could protect his team.
it’s interesting because for the most part Bad’s crimes are psychological (not to say its not a torment) but it’s interesting because it seems to be labeled so much worse then physical actions other characters have made. Bad doesn’t let others actions get to him he forgives and picks himself up and tries again maybe more guarded this time but he doesnt complain about others actions he always blames himself and carries on. Bad doesnt excuse himself he knows that his actions can cause distress from others and still does them without regret but he also understands others wont like him for his actions and fully accepts and expects it.

y'all need to understand that the lack of Eddie is telling in that episode - especially in coma dream land. This was an episode about parent and sibling love - not about romantic love and that is fundamentally why we don't see Eddie much - because he doesn't fit into those categories in the way that everyone else does - thats why we briefly see Christopher - because Buck fills a parental role of sorts for him.
Chim, Maddie, Hen and Daniel (even Doug to a certain extent)- they're all Bucks siblings
The Buckleys are his parents in every universe. Bobby is Bucks Father - the show was being very very clear about making that Canon. They want us to understand that Buck has family, that he is enough and that this weight he has been carrying around with him his entire life - where he has never felt enough as a sibling or son is the thing Buck needs to deal with (and is now very much in the process of dealing with) dealing with it is what will put him at ease.
So the Lack of Eddie is a good thing - the show is telling us that we cannot place Eddie into the same box as everyone else because there is more to that relationship - that Buck (and Eddie actually) isn't in a place to reckon with that fact because that is so huge and the other stuff needs to fall int place first.

Best lovers- Oops, friends.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sam is my boy of the month, and wow what a man!
Synopsis: Sam and Letty have been best friends since college, after a while they meet again at Bobby's house. But this time something strange is happening.
Warnings: English is not my first language, Possible mention of blood, mentions of pain and hallucinations.
In college, I remember being great friends with Sam, and we were glued to each other everywhere. Like conjoined, or Siamese, siblings. We both had crazy families who hunted peculiar things, with brothers devoted to their parents, and a dream of escaping that life. We were roommates, two Nerds, he graduated in law and I graduated in psychology, we were going to escape from that family curse that we carried. Together.
So when Jessica showed up, Sam left to live with her, which wasn't really a problem since he didn't ignore me. Whatever happened, he was scared that Jessica would find out about hunting, about his family, about his mother. The memory was vivid, me sitting on the cafeteria bench with some friends while he laughed with Jess on a bench far away, pretending to be someone he wasn't. He always wanted me if it was hurt or jealousy.
Anyway, the day I heard a knock on the door and saw him standing there and sad, with that puppy dog look, and he hugged me tightly crying over his girlfriend's death, I knew that everything was lost, that he was lost and I didn't He was going to rest until he found the thing that killed his mother and his girlfriend. That was the last day I saw him.
Looking out the window of a truck that reeked of booze, I let my mind wander through the good memories I had at the college I dropped out of. Traveling the world and hunting supernatural things runs in the family. I chuckled as I remembered Sam. Even though a few years have passed, the longing for him never went away.
— So, how are your parents doing? — Bobby who was in my direction, questions, an old friend of my mother who has been a nanny on many occasions. — You know, after death, your sister.
— They are doing well, sad, but recovering. — I gave a robotic answer.
— Sad, but well, what a beautiful way to describe grief. – He murmured. — And how do you feel?
I looked at him smiling and responding:
— I feel good, strangely, it's as if she were still alive. Only far away, like she always was.
— She was a great hunter. You remove it from her. -Bobby laughed. — I remember that she played hunting vampires while you pretended to be a victim of the situation, when you weren't kissing the teddy bears saying that you had fallen in love.
— I've always been very soft-hearted and you know that. — I poked him. — She was really great, but unfortunately not even a great hunter can resist a shot.
Bobby agreed, shaking his head.
— You two have always been like two daughters that I never had, I have to say that having four children that are not yours is very difficult. — He laughed sarcastically. — I had to see her face when you left home to study psychology. She screamed, cried, I think she was afraid of being alone or jealous that you were brave enough to leave the hunt.
Four? I felt a pang of jealousy, who were these two other girls that Bobby considered his daughters?
— That's just like her. — I gave a painful laugh. —But I got back on track. Let the spirits and werewolves prepare! — I screamed.
We both laughed. I wanted to honor my sister, continue the family thing, and with the help of Bobby who was like family.
— I hope you don't mind. — He said as he parked in front of his house, which must have been a mess. — I have two other people accommodated, hunters too. Try to be kind, they are going through a difficult situation.
—What kind of difficult situation? — I got my backpacks. — Being in this house is already a difficult situation, how long has it been since you cleaned?
—Watch how you talk, young lady. — He took the backpack from my hands. — One of them kind of sold his soul to save the other's life, they're looking for a way to reverse it, and I swear I'm going crazy with them.
— That sounds interesting. — I turned the handle with more force than necessary, as it was super dirty and rusty.
I entered the house where I spent many good times with my sister, messy as always, but at least it wasn't smelly.
— I'm going to clean this place up. — I commented. —And where are the two visitors?
— They must have left, anyway, feel free to clean up, just don't touch the magazines under my bed.
I frowned, it was disgusting to think that he saw naked women.
— How disgusting! — I let out a shrill laugh. — If I'm going to spend time here, I better organize some things.
I settled in one of Bobby's forgotten rooms that were full of boxes and rubble, lucky for me that I had gotten there early. It took me a whole morning and most of the afternoon with Bobby to tidy up the room and get the dust out of that house. Cleaning the disgusting bathroom that was full of hair in the drain and expensive hair products.
At the end of the day, I was sitting on the couch painting my nails while Bobby watched the football game to hide his concern.
— What do you think of a pizza?
— I think it would be a good idea, my boys will be home soon and hungry. — He took a sip of beer.
— Your boys? — She said intrigued. — Don't tell me you hired…
-No! Obviously not! — He was so stressed that, if he wanted, he took the trouble to make a joke. — Order two, please.
I got up from the couch, leaving the red nail polish on the coffee table and picked up the phone, dialed the number of the pizzeria and walked around the house while ordering a cheese pizza and another Margherita. Being in the hallway, I heard voices coming from the room. For some reason, my heart seemed to be beating faster at one of the familiar voices.
I walked into the living room again, looking at my toenails, which were super smudged red.
— The pizza is about to arrive and I don't drink beer, so I'll buy some juice… — I looked up.
A man in a leather jacket was sitting on the couch messing with my nail polish.
-Goodnight. — He said gently. — You must be one of Bobby's boys. — I tried to say that without laughing.
The man raised his green eyes to see me and smiled, putting down his nail polish.
-Goodnight. — He gave a sideways smile. — Look, when you say it like that, it sounds weird, but what about you? Is that his girlfriend? I didn't know he was into that attitude.
I laughed and sat down next to him.
-No! — She said a little offended, but with a smile on her face. - Bobby is like a father to me, I'm just spending time here.
— Well, there are two of us, yes. — He got a little closer. — I'm Dean and wow, how lucky am I…
I turned my face away, choked on my words when I saw Sam there, standing there with a beer in his hand.
—Sam? — I got up.
—Letty! — He said excitedly. — But what… Are you and Bobby?
-No! — Bobby responded quickly, then taking a deep breath. — She is the daughter of some friends of mine, practically the same as you. Where do you two know each other from?
-Faculty. — We repeat in unison.
— Ah, so this is Letty… — Dean murmured. — Sam talks about you a lot, annoyingly.
I laughed, as if I was unable to understand anything. But I soon remembered what Bobby had told me when I arrived.
— Who was it… Sam, did you make a pact for Dean? Or was it the other way around? — I asked, taking a step closer to Sam.
— That's a long story for later! — Dean coughed, pretending to be melancholy. —Was she your college crush?
Sam laughed, shaking his head and said:
— Kind of yes, kind of no.
I opened my eyes wide, OK, that had taken me by surprise. But I cleared my throat, changing the subject.
— I'm really happy to see you again, Sam, and I'm really happy to meet you Dean. Sam loved talking bad about you. — I joked. — And I ordered pizza.
In addition to being happy, I was nervous. Sam or Dean had their souls at stake, and it was making me anxious.
— Bobby, how many children were you a father figure? — Dean said, getting up and grabbing a beer.
— Only four. Bobby laughed. — So, what did you find out today?
As he and Dean talked, my eyes were glued to this man who looked more like a double-door refrigerator. It was almost magical how handsome he was, how tall he was and how his hair was so well taken care of.
—So, what are you doing here? — He asked, approaching, I took a step back.
— I came to spend time with Bobby, help him with some cases.
— But you don't even like hunting. — Sam commented, taking another step closer. — And it’s dangerous
— The world is a danger in itself. So which of the two handsome guys died?
— Topic for later. — He pinched my nose. — And your sister? Didn't she come along?
— She… — I sighed and laughed. — He's traveling. — I lied, I didn't want him to feel sorry, he already looked bad enough.
— Crazy in both terms, Bobby as he is known. - He laughed, tucking his hair behind his ear.
— I think this proves that we are connected by something bigger. — I poked.
We heard the noise at the door. The pizza. I signaled with my eyes for him to excuse me and went to the door, I started to feel a sharp pain in my head. The voices in the room stopped, and a silence fell. I tried to open the doors with shaking hands, and when I managed to do so, I fell forward, in front of feet wearing pink boots. I looked up and saw myself there, literally, my ten-year-old self, with a sad face, wearing a pink dress and with both scraped knees. He held a strangely familiar necklace.
— Don't trust her, don't let him trust her. — Mine, I started repeating it several times. And then it stopped. — You have to protect him. She comes to get him.
She dropped the necklace to the floor, the pendant being a piece of stone shaped into the shape of an S but stained with blood. As she walked away, but without taking her eyes off me, I clutched my chest, it felt like my heart was trying to get out of my chest. My whole body started to feel cold, I screamed in panic and pain, but it seemed like no one could hear me. I closed my eyes and tried to take a deep breath and get up from the floor, but the pain in my chest and head was leaving me paralyzed.
— Letty, is everything okay?
At that moment, I couldn't distinguish which voice it was. But the moment I opened my eyes, all the pain was gone, I was in the living room, lying on the couch, with three men looking at me worriedly. I didn't feel any pain.
-Yes I am well. — I got up quickly by reflex. — Has the pizza arrived yet? — I asked bewildered.
Sam's strong hand placed me on the couch again.
— Look, you might have hit your head, or something. — Dean said, putting ice on my head. — I was lying in front of the door when we saw you.
— I didn't hit my head. — I took the ice out of my head. — It was a silly faint, I haven't been eating properly.
Sam laughed a little irritated, he hated it when he laughed in that superior and worried way. And I smiled at him, very genuinely.
— Fainting is never a silly thing! —Bobby and Sam said at the same time.
I got up again, I wanted to say what had happened, but I was embarrassed. So I simply said:
— It must be the contraceptive I'm taking, it's driving my body crazy! — I laugh nervously.
The three were silent. I walked to the kitchen with the pizza on the table. I tried to avoid them, trying to absorb what had just happened, the reason for that vision, the necklace. And of course the necklace represented Sam. But why? I thought it ended a few years ago, but no, apparently being the weird person who has visions is my charm. I took a deep breath, leaning on the sink counter.
I looked at the door. Sam was looking at me with furrowed eyebrows.
— I must have scared the delivery man. How long did I pass out? — I sat down trying to look normal.
— About ten minutes. — Sam replied, placing his hand on my forehead. — You should change contraceptives. And after all, why do you take it? You are in no danger of getting pregnant anyway.
I laughed and closed my eyes.
— Haven't I? — I provoked. — And I take it so I don't have to go through the unbearable pain of my colic. — He said dramatically.
— We both know you'll stay a virgin until you die.
It will be? — I raised my eyebrows.
— Terrible liar.
— Terrible… — I rolled my eyes. — I lost my touch.
He looked at me sideways with concern.
—Stop looking at me like that, you weirdo.
— You're the weird one here.
— You are more. — I got up, going to get a glass.
I was surprised with a strong hug. He placed his face in my neck and sniffled as if he missed my scent. I could have done the same if he wasn't so tall and my face wasn't so comfortable on his chest.

you meet during co-ed sailing at the college in which bobby, in all his clodhopping charm, accidentally capsizes the small sailing boat ( that, to his credit, looked about as sturdy as the remote controlled boats loaned out in central park )
expecting you to freak out bobby immediately moves to provide incessant apologies, looking and sounding like an about to be scolded boy, but is eventually dismantled by your acceptance and carefree attitude.
stupidly bobby had regarded your personality to match your exterior: heeled boots, glossy lips, hair misted by diptique’s ‘do son’ and a trusty gel lacquer of 151 pirate polish always freshly applied. in his un-frontal lobe developed brain he thought that the prissy nature of your appearance would influence your temperament when dealing with him.
he was quite shocked to find the polar opposite.
after co-ed sailing you hit it off, purely as friends at first but not without your friends constant teasing of your friendship. mostly because of your polar opposite demeanours
bobby’s being one shrewd in mystery and signposted by: his quiet affliction when dining in the cafeteria, shocked and startled by even the most casual expressions of noise. not heterogeneous to that of a undomesticated fawn.
to get to and fro the campus and the sixty-three acreage that was the schools athletic centre bobby would only carry the upmost essentials to his very being: saratoga tortoise shell reading glasses, an agamemnon by aeschylus first edition hardback, and his iPhone 6 plus encased in a intrecciato colorblocked leather briefcase that was comically big for his slender model-esk frame
being that bobby had no instagram account ( despite him being an anomaly in the chronically online classmates ) communication was tricky to say the least
after a series of misguided letters back and forth placed by bobby into your locker and vice versa, you eventually exchanged numbers
despite this, on occasion, bobby slips note cards in varying hues of lilac, honey orange, and taupe into your locker accompanied by hand-written quotes by your favourite writers: joan didion and virginia woolf alongside a clumsily taped blue-raspberry salt water taffy with such care that could only be achieved via a love-sick collegiate-aged boy
when invited to your house, you quickly excuse yourself and tell bobby to let himself into your bedroom. you find him awkwardly positioning himself on your bed, covered in pink floral print, half-sitting on the bed while looking comedically uncomfortable
it’s not until his fourth visit that he begins to perform comfort and seems at peace, finally finding a non-chaotic safe place to metaphorically rest his head, a place without the chaotic nature of his home situation with his 8 rambunctious siblings
when you and your popular cliche encourage him to come to one of your famous beach bashes he’s understandably hesitant but cannot resistant your batting eyelashes and soft assurances while scratching his head that you’ll be there the entire time right alongside him.
so he goes and gets completely trashed. like BLIND drunk due to his inexperienced tolerance to alcohol at about 10:00pm. the party started at only 8:30pm…
neither of you seem to mind: with yourself being smitten towards his loosening of ambitions and his platonic touchiness brought on by his intoxication, and bobby being interior too trashed to know right from left.
the party ends around 12pm with you slinging bobby’s pashmina cardigan over your right shoulder, and trying to gather bobby frame on your left to reach the uber

you love to give bobby hickies just for the fun of seeing what creative ways he chooses to style his outfits in an effort to hide them. what you don’t love is your friends incessant teasing of both him and you as a result
popular!reader loves to put her fingers in bobby’s mouth during s*x just cause she finds it hot
your always giving him love bites
like he’s sometimes so cute in his button up and misplaced tie that you just want to bite his cute arms all over!
both of you are a big a fan of mutual masturbation over facetime
always making love raw, so much that it’s a miracle that you aren’t both parents by the age of 20
definitely pulls your hips back to him if he feels you squirming while eating you out
he definitely asks you to marry him two months into dating during a passionate sexual escapade
is a tits man through and through
will hold your boobs in his sleep
has a mysterious exterior with all your friends but is a total blob of sincerity whenever your alone together
loves to feed you honeycombs as an aftercare ritual, doesn’t matter the time or place
he loves to be pulled by the hair sorryyyyy

you make brief, short home videos together but bobby’s too paranoid and you eventually delete all evidence of it’s existence to ease his mind.

Thinking a bit about baseball and how it runs in my family so thoroughly on both sides.
My dad's father was such a good amateur third baseman that he was scouted by the Yankees. We have a letter from the team inviting him to tryouts. But he'd just started a family at the time and the Minor League life is rough, and it was rougher still in the 1950s, so he remained an amateur player who nevertheless had a deep love of the game. He apparently met and played with Willie Mays during the Korean War when he was stationed stateside. He got Mays to etch his name on the strap of his helmet. We still have that, too.

On my mom's side things were entertaining. My mom's grandfather was a New York (later SF) Giants fan. He and his wife had three children, who they raised in the Bronx. The oldest, my grandmother, was a Giants fan like him. The middle child, my great-aunt, decided she had to be different and adopted the Brooklyn Dodgers. The youngest child, my great-uncle, furthered that and became a Yankees fan.
Allegedly, according to my great-aunt, my great-grandfather predicted the Giants, then behind, would win the National League pennant in 1951. She was incredulous because at the time the Dodgers were well in first place. Until they weren't.

This moment is known as The Shot Heard Round The World and the radio call only survives because a fan was at work during the game and had his mom record it off the radio for him.]
This family arrangement continued for a few more years until the Dodgers and Giants left for California in the late 1950s, and the National League members of the family drifted until 1962, when the Mets started playing. My grandmother and great-aunt both picked them up immediately and it's been that way on my mom's side ever since - the people descended from my grandmother and great-aunt are Mets fans, and the people descended from my great-uncle are Yankees fans.
Tumblr media
[Image description: the man who somehow knew the Giants would win the 1951 pennant carrying his firstborn child, my grandmother, on his back on all fours, likely in 1932.]
Grandma Dot was a deeply passionate Mets fan and passed that trait to her daughter, who at one point had a huge baseball card collection and knew the Mets's stats better than all the boys in her school. My mom experienced her first World Series win at the age of 10 in 1969 and from there she would be loyal forever. She and my dad were married a few days after the Mets's second World Series win in 1986 and my younger brother and I would be raised on stories of that team during our early years.
Tumblr media
[Image description: the author and her brother photographed from the back at Citi Field. The author is wearing a Gary Carter jersey and her brother is wearing a Mookie Wilson jersey.]
Although I get baseball from both sides of my family, the intense passion for National League baseball in New York has been passed down matrilineally, from my grandmother to my mother to me, and I cherish that deeply. I'm the culmination of three generations of baseball-loving women and I think that's actually really cool.
I'm mostly writing this because I don't quite want to let this Mets team go yet. They were so much fun this year and I already miss them so much, and they took us so much farther than anyone expected. 2024 wasn't our year, but it was one hell of a year and I love this cast of characters a lot.
This World Series would have divided my grandmother's family in the 1950s. Not so much today, since the Mets aren't there, but the Dodgers and Yankees haven't played in the WS against each other since 1981, and before their move to LA the Dodgers and Yankees met a few times in the 1950s. I wonder what my grandmother's siblings talked about, or if they trash talked each other, or if they gathered around the radio together for the play by play.
I just love how much this sport is literally in my blood.

Full Family AU Part 25
It was recess time for Luz's grade, all her classmates running around on the playground equipment, screaming off the top of their lungs, pretending to eat wood chips, and being too much for the supervising teachers to keep up with. Luz, in particular was walking around, holding a notepad and a crayon she borrowed from inside. She then walked over to three boys on the jungle gym, literally hanging around.
"Hello!" Luz chirped, hiding her nerves. "I'm pretending to be a news reporter. Want to answer some questions?"
The boys all either nodded or mumbled a, "Yes." Luz smiled as she flipped open her pad to a page. At the top were the words "Having a sibling," with a line going down the middle, one side labeled as "Good" and another labeled as "Bad."
"First question," she said. "Do any of you have siblings?"
Two of the boys raised their hands.
"I don't," the third said. "But I can do this."
He then proceeded press his hands against his cheeks and blow a raspberry. It got his friends to laugh, but Luz wasn't in a laughing mood.
"For you two, would you say it's good or bad to have a sibling?"
"Bad," both said, making Luz look up from her notepad in shock.
"Really? You both think that?"
"Yeah," one said. "My little brother gets more toys than me on Christmas. I barely got everything on my list last year while he got literally everything."
"And I have an older brother," the other boy claimed. "He's always so mean to me. Sitting on top of me, farting in my face, calling me a 'Buttwipe.' I don't even know why, he just does it."
"That's...interesting to know," Luz told them. "Thank you for your time."
She walked away from them, adding two notches to the bad side of her paper.
'So, it's not good to have a young or older sibling,' Luz thought. 'Is Vee older than me? Or am I older? Does that mean I have to be mean? But I don't want to be mean...'
Luz eventually made her way over to a girl sitting in a patch of dirt, drawing circles with a stick.
"Hello," Luz said, getting her attention. "What'cha doing?"
"Drawing circles," Bobbi responded. "What are you doing?"
"Playing reporter. Can I ask you what having a sibling's like?"
"Oh."
"But my cousins do," the girl spoke up, more attentive. "They're twins."
"Oh!" Luz held up her notepad in anticipation. "They have to get along, right?"
"Not really," the girl said with a shrug, causing Luz to frown. "They fight a lot. Every time I see them, in fact."
"Oh...good to know..." Luz trudged off, adding two extra notches in the "Bad" side.
'There has to be someone who has good siblings...'
So, she set out to talk to everyone in her playground, hoping to find at least one notch in the good side of her paper.
Only to be met with a similar pattern of answers.
"My sister got an ice cream for getting hurt, but I couldn't get any! Even though I cried a lot for one!"
"My brother won't stop screaming when Mommy tries to feed him. How is it so hard to eat?"
"I can't even play with my brother without Mom saying I'm being too rough. Kevin was rough with me, why can't I be rough with Dylan?"
"She won't stop crying!"
"I wish I was an only child..."
Kid after kid after kid had the same thing about how awful it is having a sibling. Each answer was worse than the other, with Luz sitting up against the monkey bars, staring at the several notches she made on the bad side. The only ones that were on the good side were just notches that carried over from the bad because Luz ran out of room. Tears started to fill in Luz's eyes as worry began to grow in her heart.
'If having a sibling is this bad...what are me and Vee going to be like...?'

Hi, I was the kickin it anon! That’s ok!
If I would be able to send it in again if ok? It was one where Kim has a younger sibling who was part of the wasabi warriors while Kim was part of the Blag Dragons, and while Kim never bullied them, she never really noticed if of stopped it; and once she joins the WW, she realised what’s happened and the pair slowly rebuild their bond?
The Wasabi Code (Sister!Kim Crawford x Sibling!GN!Reader) [Platonic]
Tumblr media
Summary: Your sister was apart of the Black Dragons, but she's not anymore. She joined the Wasabi Warriors and she swore by the code, but did she really follow the code? Does she even know she's already broken it? Pronouns: You/Yours, They/Them Warnings: None Word Count: 2.6k A/N: I LOVE KICKIN IT. Sorry, got a little carried away there, I love Kickin It.
Competitions for you have been harder to get through as the years went by, and everyone at the Bobby Wasabi dojo knew exactly why. Well, everyone but the new kid Jack.
You were practicing on one of the dummies, but your mind seemed elsewhere. Rudy was trying to bring your spirits up, but this happened every competition, this happened every single time. Due to that, Rudy wasn’t that hard on you, he patted you on your back and told you to take a break, sending you to Falafel Phils to grab lunch for the dojo.
Jack watched you leave with a bit of confusion, “What’s up with them?” He asked, adjusting his uniform since it had been sliding over.
The group of boys trying their best to practice heard his concerns and stopped what they were doing, deciding to group up at one of the benches.
Jerry huffed out a breath, “It happens every tournament against the black dragons, we can’t really blame them. They might have it worse than us.” He expressed, scratching at the back of his neck.
“How?”
Their redheaded friend pointed to the group of black dragons out in the courtyard who had just finished their practice. “One of those monsters is related to them by blood.” Milton stated, shivering as he looked away.
The prodigy of the dojo sat with a mouth wide open, “Don’t tell me it’s Frank-”
Eddie shook his head, “It’s the girl.”
“Kim?”
The group nodded and Rudy finally joined the conversation. “The two don’t have the best sibling relationship, so they don’t like being against Kim.”
“What does that have to do with karate?”
“Because Kim doesn’t care who they are.” Rudy spoke, clapping Jack on the back before standing, walking off to his office.
Jack looked around for a bit more context, but Jerry and Eddie already decided to walk off, hands raised in surrender. The only person who stayed was Milton, and he was the only one who seemed willing to answer. “Kim has shown through tournaments that she’d rather gain the respect from the black dragons than worry about how they treat her sibling.”
That was the last of the conversation about you before you came back to the dojo, a bigger smile on your face than when you left.
“What are you so happy about?” Jerry asked, hands still up to help Eddie with his punches.
You grinned and held up four bags, “Phil gave me free extras!” You announced, causing the boys to rush to you and open the falafel filled bags.
No one told you that they told Jack about your family rivalry issue, Jack didn’t mention it because he realized he preferred his friends all smiling rather than down.
Someone else noticed your bright smile, how happy you were, and how everyone gathered around you. Someone noticed how strangely familial the scene looked in the dojo from the outside, but they didn’t feel much about it so they walked away.
Once the dojo began to close up, everyone went their separate ways and you walked home alone after showering, new clothes smelling fresh and clean.
You walked into your home, saying hello to your father, and heading straight to your shared room with your younger sister. Kim was the one with the bedroom to herself since you decided to share with your other sister a few years ago. She greeted you and told you that it was your turn to set the table, to which you didn’t argue. You set all your bags down and beelined for the kitchen where your dad was cooking dinner.
“How was practice?” He asked you, trying not to burn himself with the oil on the stove.
You hummed, grabbing four plates to set around the table, “It was good, we have a tournament on Saturday.”
“Yeah?”
“It’s against the Black Dragons, did Kim not tell you?” You asked him, grabbing napkins and silverware.
Your dad thought about it before shaking his head, “I don’t think so.” He answered simply, this was a typical occurrence. You remember her tournaments so you tended to let your dad know more than she did herself. You didn’t mind it much.
After a while of the two of you talking, you sat at your spot and your dad called for your sisters. Your younger sister took one of the seats close to you around the square table. Your father on the other hand left an empty seat to one of his sides, but he sat across from you, the farthest seat from you at the table. This meant that Kim would have to sit next to you, you weren’t worried, why weren’t you worried?
Kim was the last one at the table, she sat down and ate, talked to your sister and your dad, she was so full of life. She didn’t talk about karate but she talked about a movie she saw or a go-kart she got to race with some friends from school. She wouldn’t talk to you though…oh, that’s why you didn’t mind when she sat next to you, because she never acknowledged you.
When your little sister talked, everyone would laugh and smile, they would interject for more stories, and the young girl would feel like a princess with all the attention. She would tell you all about projects, books she read, activities she did, and sleepovers she would be having. It almost made you feel as if all of you were connected, all of you.
It became your turn, and Kims eyes would dim, her fork would get heavier, her head would never lift up enough to fully look at you. You would tell stories of what happened at the dojo, how Jerry got detention again, how Milton and you won the science fair, the attempt of flirting Eddie tried, or how Rudy tried a sandwich challenge at a sub place and lost miserably. You would talk about how much you adored your friends. Then, when you spoke about all the fun you were having with the new kid Jack, Kim would excuse herself and walk off.
You didn’t mind, this happened all the time. Your sister didn’t like when you were able to win, because Jack chose the Bobby Wasabi dojo over the Black Dragons, in Kims mind Jack Brewer chose you over her, and she didn’t like that.
You didn’t mind, this happened all the time. You didn’t like that she felt as if there was an ability to win or lose, but this all started when you went to separate dojos. Kim chose the Black Dragons over the Bobby Wasabi Dojo, in your mind Kim Crawford chose almost complete strangers over you, and you guessed you didn’t have any right to feel like that, according to her.
Both of you were fine with ignoring each other, neither of you cared much at all.
When you were at school, your lockers were on different sides of the hall. When Kim would be alone, grabbing her textbooks, you would be walking by with the Bobby Wasabi Warriors to your locker, even if none of you had a class together.
In Kims mind it was ridiculous how stuck together you all were, but if that were the case why was she frowning, why did she feel a tug in her chest when she saw you laughing with the group so easily. You had never laughed like that with her before, how do these boys get the sentiment so quickly, without doing anything?
Kim didn’t notice that she was standing and staring until Jack met her eyes, he waved slightly and Kim hesitantly waved back, books in her hand.
You noticed Jack waving to someone so you followed his gaze and saw Kim standing frozen, almost like a deer in headlights. You tilted your head a bit, and Jack noticed you seemed to have no sense of malice in your eyes, maybe a bit of confusion, but not sort of hatred. Due to this, he decided to wave Kim over. Everyone in the group saw this motion, but no one seemed to really mind.
Kim saw no protests, but she didn’t know why she walked off in the opposite direction hastily. She didn’t know why she wouldn’t walk over.
The boys all looked at you and you held your hands up, “I don’t know, don’t look at me.” You chuckled out, closing your locker, signaling that it was time to get to class.
It became a habit, sometimes you guys would see Kim looking at you. In the halls, at lunch, after school, even when you were inside the dojo. The Black Dragons have to pass by Bobby Wasabi to get to any place in the mall, they have no choice but to look away if they don’t want to see you guys. Kim looks through the windows, she sees all of you sparring, practicing, she sees how you guys laugh and dogpile each other, she sees how much fun you all have.
When you notice someones eyes on all of you, you would look up and Kim would rush away as if she didn’t want to get ‘caught’. It was weird, she’s never paid much attention to you so you weren’t used to the attention on you and the guys.
You assumed it was because of Jack, but if you were to share that with the boy he would shake his head and tell you, “I don’t think so”. You were sure it was though, there was a competition tomorrow and Jack was the star of it all since he was going to help you guys win the belts you needed. You were very sure that Kim was just getting intel for the Black Dragons, but they don’t get much when Jerry is giving Eddie a head noogie, so you didn’t really care.
You didn’t care until Kim Crawford, your sister of all your life, suddenly quit the Black Dragons the moment she saw how much her ‘team’ was just a group of liars and cheaters. You didn’t care until Kim only quit the moment she saw how the Black Dragons treated Jack after breaking his leg. You didn’t care until Kim walked into your dojo after quitting to try and join the Wasabi Warriors as if she’d never done anything. You didn’t care until everyone just let her in with the snap of her fingers.
When Rudy had Kim stand in front of him, making her copy his movement of pressing his fist to his palm, he recited the Wasabi code. “We swear by the light of the dragon's eye, to be loyal, honest, and never say die.” When she repeated the code, they ended with a ‘Wasabi’ and a group hug you refused to take part in.
Jack walked over to you and tried to ask what was wrong but Kim took hold of your wrist with a sickeningly sweet smile, mumbling a small excuse before dragging you outside of the dojo to the middle of the courtyard.
“What is your problem?” Kim asked you, letting go of you, hands on her hips.
You blinked at her blankly, “Oh, I’m sorry. Are you actually talking to me now?” You asked sarcastically, crossing your arms.
“You’re being childish.”
“I’m not the one who completely disregarded the fact I had multiple siblings.”
“I never did that!” She spoke harshly, voice getting higher as she glared at you.
You sighed, smoothing the knot in your brows, “Kim.” You spoke her name slowly, looking up at her. It’s been so long since you’ve made eye contact with her for this long, when did this all stop, when did you stop being family? “I just don’t trust you, but can you blame me?”
Kim blinked at you with a mouth wide open, “I’m your sister.”
“Are you?” You asked seriously, “After you joined the Black Dragons, suddenly I didn’t exist anymore.” You reminded her of how the past few years had been, “You practically abandoned me because why? Because we went to two separate dojos?”
Kim stayed silent, moving her hair over her shoulder, the sudden realization of how little time she actually spent with you.
You nodded at her silence, “You just swore by the Wasabi Code that you’d be loyal.” You told her, tilting your head, “So you can be loyal to them, but not to me, the person who has known you for all of your life.”
There was no response.
“I know everything about you Kim.” You told her honestly, tongue poking the inside of your cheek as you spoke. You noticed she began to look down, tears filling her eyes slightly, “I knew all your tournaments, your fairs, charities, when you were in cheer.” You listed off, “I still gave you birthday gifts, I knew of the recommendation letters, I moved rooms because I knew you would want your own.” You continued on, not letting her speak. “I know everything about you, but for some reason you treat it as some disease to try to get to know me at all.”
Kim sniffled a bit as she looked up to meet your eyes. Her eyes were watery, her cheeks splotched with red, “I didn’t realize that-”
“That you’re just like the Black Dragons?” You interrupted, your phrasing causing something to twist harshly in Kims chest. “Admit it, you’re just as bad as them.”
“I didn’t mean to be!” She suddenly spoke out, grasping at her chest, her blonde hair sticking to her face due to the wet tears on her cheeks. “I thought I could find people like how you had them.” She mumbled out, breathing heavily. “I saw you all the time, having fun, not worrying about whether you’d get kicked or not!” She cried, her voice cracking as she continued to explain. “I wanted to find that myself, because if I got it without you, maybe I could actually deserve to be a part of it with you.” She continued on, tears continuing to fall.
“Why didn’t you just join Wasabi then if you wanted it so bad?!” You yelled, shaking your head slightly angrily.
“How was I supposed to just join after everything they’ve done to you all!”
There were no more words exchanged, just your heavy breaths and Kims choked out sobs.
You understood what she meant now, no matter when she joined, it still would’ve turned out like this. The only way it wouldn’t have been like this was in some alternate time where you both joined the Wasabi Warriors, an alternate time you guys weren’t in.
You never expected Kim to cry in front of you, you never expected your sister to care so much about being with you to the point she thought it over and knew she couldn’t just be friends with you after all of that. You never expected your sister to want to be your friend.
After a moment, barely a second, you brought Kim up in your arms, her face buried in your shoulder, your chin on hers. You gently rubbed her back up and down.
“You aren’t like the Black Dragons…I’m sorry.” You muttered to her, “You’re better than how they were.” You continued to whisper reassuring words to her as her cries calmed down and her arms found their way around your torso.
She sniffled once more, “I swore by the Wasabi Code that I’d be loyal, and honest.” She told you, “I promise I’ll be better.”
“I know you will be, you’re my sister.”

Okay so since ❄️ is finished I'm gonna replace it with ⚡️ since I REALLY need to finish that chapter. Enjoy!
48 for 🔼:

“And if it takes Buck with him…” Chim says.
“We might never find him,” Hen finishes.
Bobby grits his teeth. “Then let’s pick up the damn pace.”
🔼
Buck bangs on the side of the metal walls of his makeshift prison.
“HELP!” He screams. “HELP! HELP ME!”
He feels sort of pathetic, if he’s being honest. He’s supposed to be able to help himself. And honestly? Usually he can. He spent years on the road, bouncing from place to place, with only himself to rely on. But here he is, for the second time this year, trapped and helpless. Except last time, his team was there. This time…
He’s on his own.
“HELP! I’M HERE!”
This is probably useless.
He should probably give up.
Except, then he starts spiraling about giving up, a little. Because, what if he dies? What if he actually just dies out here? From his perspective, he’s just dead. But what about Shannon and Chris? They’d be, like, kind of traumatized, right? If he died immediately after helping them. And Eddie! Eddie would feel bad. Eddie made him leave the house. Then there’s Maddie. She’d be pretty bummed to lose her only sibling. She was pretty pissed when he had the damn embolism. So that’s, like, at least four reasons not to stop trying.
Buck has to survive. God, what a chore.
He keeps banging on the side of the metal.
“HELP! I’M TRAPPED!”
And then something strange happens. Something that makes him sort of feel hopeful, but in a cautious way. Like, the hope could also be dread very quickly.
The water levels start to decrease.
It’s not sudden. Not a huge, swirling drain.

“They were firefighters?” Athena asks.
Chim nods and points at the ground below. “He was my old captain.”
“The racist piece of shit?” Hen asks.
“The very same,” Chim confirms.
“They came here to take our kids,” Hen says.
“What?” Bobby demands.
“They wanted child soldiers,” Athena adds. “To train up for some new world order.”
“Oh my god,” Karen exhales heavily.
“What’s worse?” Athena adds. “I think there’s probably more of them where these two came from.”
▪️▪️▪️
There are three possibilities.
First - the best option - Sal and Gerrard, as Chim says he was called, are anomalies. Two batshit individuals who thought they were starting something. Delusions of grandeur. Meaning, the threat is over. Possible? Yes. Likely? No.
Second - slightly better - they’re not alone, but their ranks are small. Maybe this was a real body blow to them. Whoever they are. Maybe the loss of two of their men will be enough to deter them from trying anything. At least for a while. Maybe the library will be seen as strong. Not to be trifled with.
Third - and this is the worst option - all this will do is piss off a heavily armed group of ambitious men. Not a great position to be in. Especially considering the two automatic weapons their dead members carried with them.
They can’t ignore the possibility that the latter option is the truth. They have no way of knowing for sure, so they have to operate under the worst case scenario. That’s how you’re prepared enough to survive. As brutal as it is.
Athena and Hen clean themselves of Sal’s blood while the others get to work preparing for option three. They hide the evidence of children that’s visible from the outside of the building. They go through their intruders’ things. Guns. Ammos. Knives. Bindings. Gags. Anything they can keep and repurpose, they do. The rest, they leave in the Hummer.

Eddie’s not entirely sure what to do. He’s not up for a lot, to be honest. Moving and work in what has felt like an endless rotation these past two weeks has left him sore and tired. But he wants to make a good day of it. Just the two of them.
“Is there anything you want to do today?” Eddie asks Chris. “We could say goodbye to the house? It’s our last day with it.”
“Say goodbye to the house?” Chris asks. “What would we even do? Wave?”
Alright. Sass.

“It hurt. It hurt seeing other mothers with their babies when I wasn’t with mine. When… I don’t know. When I guess I didn’t trust I ever would be again, in a permanent way.”
Chim crosses the kitchen to give her a hug and a kiss on her temple.
“That was never going to happen,” he tells her.
“I know that now,” Maddie says. “And I know that Eddie will get Christopher back, too. But maybe he’s in more pain than he’s saying. And maybe he thought he could be there for you and Dove, but when faced with it, it’s too much.”
Buck sighs. “Yeah, that… That makes sense.”
“Damn,” Chim mutters.
