Matchmaker Grimes
Daryl Dixon • She/Her Pronouns • Carl Grimes’ Older Sister!Reader • Carl saw how close you and the archer were getting and thought he (with a little help from dad) he can get the two of you together • SFW/Smol Angst • TW: Anxiety
Requested by: Anon
“Y/N, mind doing me a favor?”
“If it’s something stupid I won’t do it Carl” Y/N scoffs in a playful manner to show her brother she wasn’t serious about turning down whatever it may be. Even if the silence wasn’t going to get her to do what he wants of her. “Dude. Spit it out”
“Shit, sorry. Mind checking the snares? Dad asked me to ask you”
“Then why did you phrase it in wanting me to do you a favor?”
“I panicked and forgot that dad asked me to ask you. I just remembered that it was him asking—-“
“You’re scrambling. But yeah I’ll go take care of it” Y/N shooed him away so that she could get ready in private, even if the blanket curtain for a cell door wasn’t enough privacy.
As the eldest Grimes sibling made her way outside the gates of the prison to check the snares for her father. She noticed the archer setting up new ones after re-setting up the old ones.
Daryl looked up when he heard a throat clear, finally noticing Y/N as he straightens up. “Uh. Rick asked me—-“
“Oh, funny. My dad asked me to do it…too” Y/N tried not to be so nervous around the archer when talking to him.
“I could use a hand though, so you’re perfect—-“ Daryl himself was nervous around the eldest Grimes sibling. “I-I mean it’s…perfect. You…you can help. Yeah”
While that was happening, Rick was currently on watch as he had a pair of binoculars checking the parameter from his tower and more specifically watching the two take care of the snares. They were getting quite a bit of game and while they were out they took care of a few walkers that threatened the fence.
“Anything?” Carl questions the moment he arrived as Rick handed the binoculars to his son.
“Yea know I can’t hear anything right?”
“No shit dad!”
“Language”
“Whatever. I just wanna know if they are talking to each other. I don’t gotta hear what they’re saying” Carl states looking into the binoculars checking on the two himself.
As Y/N finished setting up the last snare she noticed Daryl staring into the prison but more specifically the watch tower. She brought herself to stand beside him curious to what he was looking at.
“Why does your brother have binoculars?”
“Cuz he’s a weirdo. I don’t know” Y/N watching Carl put away the binoculars by shoving them into his dad’s side.
“It’d be weirder if he had one of those…uhhh…”
“A listening device? Aren’t they called bugs?”
“I was thinkin’ the microphone things cops had in old cop films. For spyin’” Daryl adjusted his crossbow on his back as Y/N crosses her arms watching her family scramble in the watchtower.
“I miss movies”
“Yea had a favorite film?”
“Guess” Y/N smiles at Daryl watching his expression soften while in thought.
“Were yea one of them twilight girls?”
“Ew no” She laughs at the guess as Daryl felt a twitch of a smile Grace his face when hearing her laugh. “Lori was obsessed with the books. But as for my favorite movie, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”
“Jim Carrey fan?”
“No, I just really enjoyed the film. I could probably recite it by heart I’ve seen it a lot” Y/N started to make her way back to the main gates with Daryl following shortly behind while carrying the catches the traps caught.
“Uhm…think yea could recite it to me like…sometime or whatever”
“Sure, after dinner?” Y/N’s smile he will take to memory. She watches him nod with a hint of his smile peaking out. “Cool”
The night came in and dinner was made with the rabbits they’ve caught in the snares. It was put into a stew with some of the vegetables they grew in the gardens. Some of the people were eating outside and some were inside…Carl found himself sitting outside at the table with his dad and baby sister with the Greenes and Rhees. He was watching Y/N talking to Carol at another table with Daryl sitting with them.
“Carl”
Carl quickly snapped back to the table he was at seeing a few laugh at his attention being elsewhere.
“Sorry what?”
“You gotta eat, son” Rick laughs a bit as he held Judith giving her a bottle. “We’re running out of formula”
“She should be able to start takin’ solids soon but in mush form. We do have carrots coming in” Hershel adds his input as he enjoys the dinner.
“Think we should have a run set up. Just a quick one to see if there’s anymore formula out there before weening her off”
“Glenn and I—-“
“Y/N and Daryl don’t have morning watch tomorrow. They can go on a quick run. I’ll go tell them” Carl quickly got up from his seat making his way over to their table.
Glenn couldn’t help the laugh that escaped him catching everyone’s attention at their picnic table. “Sorry sorry”
“What it’s cute that he’s trying to set them up” Beth was quick to add as that caught Rick’s attention instantly.
“Y’all know what he’s doing?”
“It’s obvious”
“And boy are those two oblivious” Maggie smiles at the two before turning back to her table failing to contain her laughter. “Glenn and I have tried before. But we honestly thought you’d have a problem with it”
“Or it’ll blow up in our faces because it’s the apocalypse and locking the two in an abandoned house can lead to a walker being shoved out a window” Glenn avoided eye contact as that would explain the time Y/N had to get stitches. “Ruined the mood”
“I don’t have a problem with it.“ Rick states setting the bottle down and getting up from his seat to take Judith inside. “I’d only have a problem if he hurts her”
A few hours passed and everyone was inside for the night, Daryl was getting off his watch about to light a cig when he noticed Y/N sitting alone outside. He quickly discarded the cigarette while making his way over to her in the fields.
“Hey”
Y/N looks up from her lap giving Daryl a tired smile before returning her attention onto the book she had in her lap.
“You okay?” He asks bringing himself to sit with her hearing a ‘Mhm’ as a response. “Mind if I sit with yea?”
“Not at all” she smiles watching him the best she could given the barely any light from the solar powered lantern she found from the last run.
Daryl brought himself close bringing his attention to the pictures she was fiddling with hidden in the pages.
“Who’s that?”
“My mom with Lori, then this one” Y/N handed one over to Daryl as he brought it more toward her lantern to get a look. “Carl and I when I was moving out”
“Yea look happy…how’d these manage to survive this long? If yea don’t mind me askin’”
“I know how to take care of my shit” Y/N laughs dryly being handed the photo back as she put it back in a small copy of Flowers for Algernon. No correlation, just know her dad or brother would pick up the book. “My coat has an inside pocket big enough to hold the book I keep them in. Only take it off to sleep so it’s always on me”
“Smart. Kinda like the vest I’ve got. It’ll stay intact as long as it’s with me.”
“The wings suit you by the way. Being a guardian angel of sorts” Y/N smiles listening to him scoff followed by a short lived chuckle. “Ever gonna trust someone to wear them? You do trust Carol to clean it”
“Eh she just showed me how to take care of it. To avoid the wings tearing off…but yeah I’ve got someone in mind, I’d trust to wear’em”
“Oh yeah?” Y/N smiles at the archer not getting an answer of who as the silence grew slightly between them before she took a risk bringing herself beside him resting her head on his shoulder. “They must be pretty special”
She is Daryl tensed at first contact but relaxed after a second watching her curl into his side.
The morning came and Y/N stepped out of the watchtower from taking over Maggie’s morning shift ending just in time to go on the quick run with Daryl. He sat on his bike listening to what they needed to look for from Rick as he brought his attention to Y/N approaching.
“So you know what to—-“
“Get. Now you get” Daryl gestures with his head for Rick to leave as he gave him a confused look before turning to his daughter coming over and left with an amused chuckle escaping him.
Daryl straightens up gripping onto the helmet in his hands as Y/N instantly beams at the archer.
“You look ready”
“Oh I—If you ain’t I can—“
“No I’m good. I’m ready” She continues to smile as Daryl handed her the helmet. “Now why do you have this for me but not yourself?”
“You’re sitting behind me, sunshine. Can’t have yea getting brain damage falling off”
“Hey this isn’t my first time riding yknow”
“Oh?” Daryl smirks bringing himself forward so that Y/N can hop on once she got her helmet secured. “Wouldn’t have pegged yea to be the rebellious type with a dad like that”
“Mm I got away with a lot” Y/N giggles to herself about to wrap her arms around Daryl when she turned back to find Rick looking at the two. “CAN YEA GET THE GATES OLD MAN?”
The archer couldn’t help himself by laughing at her words as his mind drew a blank instantly when she wrapped her arms around his torso.
“Old man really?” Rick comments with a bit of a snicker while passing to get the gate.
Soon the two were off and Carl brought himself to the gates once they closed.
“I’ve got a plan if this doesn’t work”
“I bet yea it will given it’s just them”
“Yeah well. I’m still gonna do my plan and it’s about tonight’s night shifts. Daryl is right after Y/N’s.”
“I’m listening” Rick started to walk back to the prison listening to his son’s plan, knowing part of it will probably not matter given these two being alone now?
Gives them enough time to say something
Or
Do something Daryl thought as he follows Y/N through a mini grocery watching her take everything that would benefit their group. Still keeping an eye out for what Rick asked Daryl to find.
“Hey uh Y/N I—-“
“I love you” Y/N blurted to Daryl as she was taking her own chances but when he didn’t respond right away, she decided to scramble and head further into the building. “Sorry!”
“Nah wait” Daryl quickly followed after her through the market as she always managed to get further ahead. “Y/N Damn it! Stop runnin’ from me please” he finally managed to cut her off as it led to her practically running into him.
“Shit sorry—“
“No I’m sorry, Y/N. Shit yea caught me off guard a moment ago—-“
“Yeah I get that and I totally get it if you don’t—-“
“Stop!” Daryl snapped, murmuring a few apologies when it caused her to flinch. He held her shoulders watching her eyes avoid his as he gently held her chin with his right hand making her look at him. “Yea caught me off guard. I-I was gonna say the same…just Uhm. Never thought you’d feel the same way”
“I…” Y/N exhaled a small laugh before bringing her hands to carefully hold his face. “I just wanted a moment alone with you to tell you and felt that something has been pushing me to this.”
“I felt that too” Daryl brought his hands to rest on her hips bringing her close. “I…fuck, you beat me to it earlier” he chuckles lightly smiling, simply enjoying her laugh and feeling her hands move to behind his neck. “But god I love yea. I love you so much”
“Kiss me then, Dixon” Y/N smiles as the archer didn’t hesitate to bring his lips against hers loving every part of her even more keeping her close.
“Yea think they’ve gotten into some trouble?” Rick asks Hershel as it’s been hours. What was supposed to be a quick run, turned into them being gone for hours.
“Are you worried about your daughter? She’s proven to be strong enough to care for herself, Rick. And Daryl’s with her.”
Rick continued to pace the gardens while Hershel kept the upkeep on their veggies being a listening ear to his friend’s concern.
“I should go out there”
“Yea shouldn’t. If they don’t surface tomorrow, then a few of us can go look for them.” Hershel grabbed some mulch from his bucket and started to place it in the soil when he brought his attention to the familiar roar of Daryl’s bike. “Don’t have to send a party out” he states watching Rick sprint over to the gates.
“The fuck happen to a quick ru—-Where’s my daughter, Dixon?” He only ever used Daryl’s last name when he was pissed and the conversation included Y/N.
“Are you blind?” Daryl scoffs bringing his bike to its usual spot as Rick quickly turns to the car coming through having Y/N in the drivers.
As the car pulls in and Y/N stepped out after parking it, Rick instantly grabbed her into a hug out of sudden anxiety for her safety as she awkwardly pats his back wanting him to stop.
“I didn’t die”
“You gotta stop saying that” Rick sighs pulling away and checking her for injuries as she gently pushes him back. “Sorry”
“You worry too much, old man. But look at what we brought back” Y/N gestures for him to check out their findings in the trunk and as she listens to Rick being grateful that they decided to stick outside the walls longer to get more of what they need, she looked over to Daryl seeing him crouched by his bike checking it out after the ride looking over to her.
The archer shot her a smile as she returned it followed by a wink before turning to her dad talking about the blankets they found and giving them to the kids they have at the prison. While all that happens, Carl who stood by the entrance to their cellblock from the outside, noticed their small exchange and quickly went to Daryl knowing his sister wouldn’t hear what he’s about to say.
“You break my sister’s heart and I end you” Carl suddenly stated to the man who gave him a confused look before he could fully take in what he said.
“I’ll never break your sister’s heart”
“You better. Cuz I’m fucking serious” Carl crosses his arms. “I will end you”
Daryl scoffs as he removes one of his knifes from their slot handing it to Carl and with his normal serious tone.
“If I ever, EVER, do wrong by your sister? You know exactly what to do with that”
And on that note Daryl went to help his girl and Rick with unloading the goods from the “new” car they brought. Carl stood there watching and fiddled with the knife in his hand. Knowing he’s never gonna have to use it.

bunny x cat dynamic?
Like, adhd bunny and grumpy cat dynamic? I'm going to try writing a bit where the dynamic of the main characters are fleshed out. Any input on what people often enjoy about these for me to take into account?
To me it's so cute because she considers herself more as an annoying dog but for him, he considers her to be a cute, hyperactive bunny (that's kind of useless to (literal) death but let's put that aside, or not)
The ideal response to this would come from your readers. If you've already established your reader base, try asking them their preferences and expectations. Of course—still, write the story you want (and need) as a writer. And there it is, in your second paragraph. The idea is that if you write what you want, the people who also prefer this dynamic will find your work and stay for the rest of the story, and will more likely enjoy your other work as well (this is essentially what most successful authors advise new writers—write what you want, what you enjoy etc etc). But striking a balance between your readers' and your own preferences would be great too.
If you don't have a reader base yet, I'd suggest going through your favourite literature/films and finding ones that depict this particular character dynamic. Then you yourself, as a reader/viewer now, could answer what you find enjoyable about these pieces of media, and incorporate that in your writing.
Also, here are some tropes that I think have similarities with the dynamic you described. Same suggestion with finding books or films/TV shows you like that feature these tropes. But also research their readers'/audience's feedback to find out what they enjoyed about these character tropes, and this is what you can take into consideration for your story.
Grump and sunshine. One character is so grumpy all the time; the other character is so bubbly all the time. And somehow, through that power-of-love thing, they end up balancing each other out. The grump sometimes has sworn off love.
Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl. This is a potential pairing (platonic or otherwise) between a pragmatic guy and a girl who is very full of energy. One partner in the pair will be lively and optimistic while the other is savvy and more slothful, quiet, or otherwise less expressive. EXAMPLES:
In Corpse Bride, Emily and Victor. The former is a dead bride who is rather lively and spiritual for a corpse, while the latter is a live man who is shy and awkward almost to a fault.
This defines Anna and Kristoff's relationship in Frozen nicely. She is a spunky princess willing to do whatever it takes to bring her sister home, he is a grumpy, rough-around-the-edges ice harvester helping her along the way.
In Pixar's Up, the quiet and timid Carl befriended and eventually married the energetic Ellie.
Uptight Loves Wild. He's stuffy. She's untamed. It's true love. Mr. Stuffy is in a rut: Life is boring because he plays by the rules. Along comes this wild and crazy woman to show him how to live life to its fullest, and she just might learn a few things along the way, too. EXAMPLES:
Enchanted: Stuffy, cynical divorce lawyer Robert meets fairytale princess Giselle.
The Sound of Music: Maria isn't "wild", but she is a Blithe Spirit in the face of the extremely uptight, Captain von Trapp.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: Quite thoroughly deconstructs this. A relationship like this doesn't always work and after the falling-in-love part, it causes more pain than joy; so much so that both parties opt to have their memories removed of each other. The Manic Pixie Dream Girl is also far more complicated: "I'm not a concept, I'm just a fucked-up girl looking for a peace of mind".
Opposites Attract. EXAMPLES:
The Princess and the Frog has Tiana and Naveen. She's a Workaholic, no-nonsense waitress and he's a fun-loving, lazy prince.
Tangled gives us the jaded, worldly-wise thief Flynn Rider and the spirited, innocent princess Rapunzel.
Treasure Planet has Captain Amelia and Dr. Doppler. She's a tough-as-nails Action Girl, he's a bookish scientist, not to mention they're basically an anthropomorphic cat and dog, respectively. The two grow closer throughout the movie, and by the end they even have several kids.

Sunshine ☀️
Pairing- Daryl Dixon x Reader
Setting- Season 5- Alexandria’s introduction
Word count- 1.8k
Summary- Daryl’s arms in the sun>>
Warnings??- slight nudity, mention of scars, mention of blood
The sun warmed my skin as I stood outside the gates, the heat was strong today, it was getting harder and harder to bare. But as we watched the gates open revealing rows of perfect houses and strangers laughing, walking their dogs and talking about such minuscule, trivial things like their new hairstyles and whether to bake a cake or cookies for the new comers. It all became worth it so quickly, excitement filled me, we were finally finding a place to lay down our roots and settle, Judy and Carl deserve a place like this, we all do. Some of us may not see it but we need this more than anything. Any longer out there would be too long.
We walked through the door, a trail of blood following behind Daryl from the “dinner” he shot. I watched him for a second, observing his muscular frame as Aaron showed us around the town.
I’d always noticed how strong his arms were but with the sun beating down on him and the beaming light making his veins more visible and causing a single drop of sweat to drip down to his hand, it became almost impossible to not notice his form.
He must’ve felt my gaze on him as when I finally looked up, his eyes were on mine. He had a stern look on his face, his lips pursed tightly together, head lowered whilst looking at me through hooded lids. It felt like an eternity of watching until I was snapped back to reality, “so Y/N, are you ready for your interview?” I turned to Aaron quickly, eyes wide and eyebrows raised.
“Hm, oh um, yes?! Definitely!” At first I spoke with a slight tone of concern before speaking with confidence. It took me a minute to process fully what he had said, my mind was still lurking with thoughts of the archer.
I could feel his eyes on me still as I spoke, he watched me like a predator would its prey, making sure not to miss a single step, getting ready for any move I might make.
“Okay good!” Aaron said, I promise there’s no reason to be concerned” he specified with a compassionate look, I smiled, “thank you Aaron.”
I gave one last look before walking away and to my content his eyes were still locked on mine.
After the interview I was exhausted, Deanna had asked some really personal questions, she seemed like a good person, she just wanted to know more about the dynamic of our group and my place in it, so of course she had to ask tough questions. However it was truly a struggle to talk about some of it. "Oi Y/N"
I turned quickly recognising the thick accent.
"Oi to you to Dixon," I said with a large smile.
"Woah Sunshine, that smile just for me?" he let out with a huff.
I blushed and instinctively averted my gaze, that name always made me lose it, looking back at him I was drawn to what was in his hands, his grip was tightened around the handle of a knife, the other hand tight around a rock, scraping it against the blade.
“Why'd ya keep doin' that?”
“What do you mean?”
“Ya keep looking at ma arms and ma hands,”
My face reddened to the shade of a tomato, as the idea that he’d catch on to the “thoughts” I’d been having of him crossed my mind.
“Are ya okay?” A wave of concern suddenly washing over him.
“Yep” I said quickly, my voice catching in my throat causing it to come out in a squeak.
“Nah, ya face it looks all red, I think ya comin’ down with heatstroke.”
He strutted over in a timely manner.
He rested the back of his hand against my forehead.
“Shit y/n, ya burning up.”
Part of me was relieved for the excuse the other felt guilt for his concern.
“I’m fine honestly.” I said with a relaxed expression.
He looked me up and down silently, it was always hard to figure out his intentions but right now I knew there was only worry.
“Are you okay?” I said with an almost accusatory tone.
He looked into my eyes sternly before grabbing my arm and pulling me away. He was gentler than I expected, making sure not to cause any harm.
“Where are we going?”
Without looking back he just muttered something and sped up in guiding me.
We got a few concerned looks from the people we walked by but aside from that we made it to our destination with no hassle.
“So this is where we are staying?”
“Hm” he said looking away, his energy shifting altogether from the man teasing me a few minutes ago.
“Wanna go shower” he said not even looking at me.
“Huh? You want us to shower?!” I stated shocked, once again blushing as an unholy image flashed through my brain.
“I meant ya take a shower cool off, it’d help against the heat.”
Silence took over the room as we avoided eye contact.
“Oh, well I’m going to go shower then,” I said breaking the silence, and turning to rush away, he grabbed my wrist stopping me in my tracks.
I looked down at his hand finally on my body where they belong. We stared in silence at the sight as if it was the first time either of us had ever been touched. Our eyes met in sync and I instinctively took a step closer to him.
“Look Y/N it ain’t that I don’t wanna-“
He was interrupted by the sound of a door banging, we separated immediately.
Moving ourselves as far from one another as possible.
“Oh hey guys, how did the interview go Y/N?” Rosita said with a smile on her face. She wasn’t looking up, she had her eyes focused on her shirt, it looked like she was attempting to rub out a rather large stain.
“Yeah it was fine thank you,” I said rushed, with a hint of embarrassment to my voice.
“That’s good, I hope she didn’t push you too hard, I know you don’t-“ when she finally looked up she paused for a second looking between me and Daryl, perhaps confused as to why we were so distanced.
“You both okay?” She said, there was a slight smirk on her face and an almost suggestive tone.
“Yep” we both said immediately.
“I need to shower!” I had practically rushed up the stairs before I could even finish my sentence.
I spent 20 minutes just feeling the cool water against my body, washing away all the grease and mud that had built up after weeks of travelling. As I ran my hand through my hair a certain someone entertained my thoughts. The thought of his hand on my wrist, his rough calloused fingers exploring my body. My neck, my chest, my-
“Ughh” I mumbled with annoyance.
“What is wrong with me?!” I muttered angrily to myself before turning off the shower.
The sun was setting by the time I finished up, I left the bathroom almost completely ready for bed, aside from the fact I needed to grab I change of clothes.
The bathroom and bedroom were right next to each other so I assumed it’d be safe. I scanned the hallway making sure no one was there before rushing into the bedroom and lightly closing the door behind me as not to wake Judith.
Letting out a sigh of relief, I turned around preparing to change but was immediately distracted.
Noticing a scarred back infront of me, my eyes widened, completely entranced by his moves, wondering how just a back can hold so much beauty yet still so much pain.
“Wow,” I whispered to myself as my breath hitched.
He must’ve heard because his head spun round.
“Shit what the hell Y/N?!”
“Fuck, I’m so sorry!” I said quickly turning around.
“Y/N!” He yelled, I looked back to him confused, only seeing the back of his head and his tinted red ears.
“What’s wrong?” I said suddenly concerned.
“Ya- ya towel, it uh- it ain’t quite long enough.” He stuttered as he said it, I’d never heard him tongue tied before.
“Fuck!”
I scrambled grab some clothes from the drawer. Throwing on some clean underwear and clothes the community had gifted us.
“You can turn now” I muttered still embarrassed.
“Sorry I wouldn’t have changed here if I knew this is where ya clothes are, Rosita said ma clothes were left here.”
“It’s fine, it’s my fault, I should’ve knocked.”
After a few awkward seconds of silence, I finally broke it, “before, when Rosita came in, what were you going to say?“
He turned a deeper shade of red, it was fun to see him be the mess for once.
“Ya cant guess?” After that line I took a dangerous amount of steps close to him.
“Please Daryl?” By this point i was almost stood on his toes, mere inches apart.
“Fine.” He let out a low huff before continuing “you’re playing a dangerous game Sunshine… But we can’t…”
“Says who?” I remarked quickly.
“Me, it wouldn’t be smart.” He said with such authority that I almost believed him but I could still sense the uncertainty beneath it.
“Say you don’t want me and I’ll leave,”
He opened his mouth but closed it just as quickly.
“It’s not smart,”
“Come on Daryl, you know I don’t care about whether it’s smart or not. Just say the words and I’ll go.”
“Y/n“ he said my name with such longing and desperation, I felt it in my core.
“Say it” I let out in a pained sigh.
I searched his face for any sign of pain or discomfort but all I noticed was his eyes on my lips.
“We shouldn’t,” he muttered, quickly contradicting himself by leaning towards me. His eyes lifted to mine as if for approval before shifting back to my lips. I leaned almost closing the distance, leaving less than an inch between us.
“Fuck it” he said, colliding his lips with mine in a rushed manner, as if either one us could disappear at any second.
He placed rushed kisses against my jaw before reaching my neck. He was certainly skilled to say the least. His teeth slightly nipped against my skin leaving small bruises, I softly moaned as he did so. His hands searched my body, one tightening around my waist the other travelling to my neck. His grip slightly tightened as he moved towards my ear, I could feel the heat radiating from his mouth.
“Are my hands finally where you want them,” he whispered with a smirk.

pinterest here, playlist here.
WHEN ALL THE BRIDGES HAVE BEEN BURNED:
jennifer pierce expected the best of her children. she gave them the best so of course they had to return the favor. she had inherited her father’s business, and was excelling so much her husband took her last name. it wasn’t a feminist thing, but a money thing you see. alethea grew up without a want, but the truth of the matter is she never knew what she wanted. her mother made those decisions. from what she wore, to how she cut her hair, to who her friends were and what activities did. her entire life was planned to a t, and alethea never questioned a moment of it. how do you question something that you didn’t know was an option?
her brother jacob was doted on, and grew up with a grin and popularity. this was easy to him. this was painful for alethea. she smiled and waved, and the only matters of relief she found were in her ballet classes. going professional hadn’t been her mother’s first plan, but seeing the natural talent her daughter was, and just how feminine she was, allowed this small change in the over all path forward.
jennifer and carl met at ogden, and she knew that was where her children were to go. there was no exception, and jennifer would do whatever needed for her kids to follow her legacy. the major was flexible, but they would go to ogden, they would find suitable spouses, and they would carry on the family legacy. it was picture perfect, and she never heard a single word of complaint from either of her children.
AND ALL THE TABLES HAVE BEEN TURNED BY ME:
growing up without decisions meant college was terrifying for alethea. she had to pick her classes, find friends that her mother couldn’t approve of, and suddenly had free time that wasn’t planned out for her? it was paralyzing. but during the second week of classes greer spotted alethea across the way and took her under her wing. she showed her what the world could be, and she still fit under that approval from jennifer pierce. greer wasn’t just her best friend, but she was a bit of a savior for her.
this whole time there has been a gnawing in her chest. a desire for freedom, a petition to let the real alethea out and run free. but who was she? alethea couldn’t answer that, not honestly. just who her mother had manufactured her to be. but this confusion, this shyness, this quietness played into a different picture of alethea. it allowed her to be whatever anyone wanted her to be, they could paint their own ideas of her. she could be mysterious, she could be all they ever wanted. and she could be a dream.
and it was through this exploration that alethea slowly stepped out of the pillars her mother had built for her. first came the time greer dared her to kiss another girl during spin the bottle, and alethea realized that she might have enjoyed it more than her mother would have liked. and then came the time greer put her in a suit instead of a dress, and she liked the way it looked on her. and that maybe she wasn’t a girl after all, but something that could be shed. and so they started to pick up new pieces of theirself, putting them together to form a whole new journey. was ballet even the career they wanted? did they even like ogden? who were these people that had been decided as their friends? the questions became overwhelming.
WHO WILL BE LEFT TO LEAVE? JUST ME:
and now greer is gone. and it’s noticeable the change in alethea. it began before her disappearance of course, but could it somehow be correlated? alethea willingly goes out, sometimes alone, now. they are keeping greers friends, they are speaking up and out, they have a bite to them that hadn’t existed once upon a time. what does the future hold of alethea? are they becoming who they really are, or are they once again pretending, shedding the quiet role they had lived into for all their life for one that looks a little more like their now missing friend…
GREER:
during freshman year at ogden, alethea was absolutely lost and in-over her head. she had never been the rebellious type, her parents had been too strict to allow non-sense in their house, and so alethea was overwhelmed with the freedom college could allow, and she had no idea how to deal with it. her mother had always taught her to seek out the ‘right’ people to befriend, and it was just her luck that greer extended her own friendship to alethea. she brought them to the parties, encouraged her to flirt with whomever was necessary in order to go after who she wanted, and overall guided alethea through college. they doesn’t know if she would have been able to survive any of it without greer. there was little jealousy on alethea’s side at the beginning - she was just grateful for what greer could offer her through her friendship. and alethea was not a threat to greer. but as they’ve grown older there has been a tension living in the friendship, the reliance upon each other that might not be as necessary anymore. alethea was not anymore outgoing or less shy, but now her shyness was being interpreted as mystery, making them a bit more intriguing to others and perhaps sparking some jealousy on greer’s side.
THE DRAG-ALONG:
you know that girl that was always a few steps behind greer and the fallen princess? the one with wide eyes and a quiet demeanor? they never seemed to talk much, but even in their silence never seemed to be entirely so observant that you had to watch what you were saying. really, she just seemed like a little pet to the best friends, a third they allowed to follow them around.
and that person? that was alethea, taken under greer’s wing during the first weeks of school freshman year but never brought too close. it was the kind of relationship where alethea was sure to call greer one of her best friends, and greer might hesitate, only referring to them as a simple friend. but wherever the fallen princess and greer were, alethea was there. fingers picking at each other, posture both immaculate and slouched. each semester they seemed to get a bit bolder, inching their way up next to the other two, but still never find herself as an equal.
extra:
previous tasks found here
they have their septum pierced that they flip up whenever they go home and hide from their mother
her room is usually incredibly clean
often found walking around campus as if they are in their own world
junior year recap:
g told alethea to start a fight at greer's birthday party so she picked a fight with heni who pushed her in the pool
found polaroids with monty in their chalet during the winter ski retreat black-out
told heni about the polaroids (it was their chalet after all)
thought they saw greer in the hall of mirrors during the spring carnival
g set them up with lola in the library before the rave, did a poor job looking for g when tempted
suffered from smoke inhalation during the fire in the commons trying to escape out of the back
went mia for a bit over the summer

Audiovision Blog Post week 8
1. Research (technical, academic, creative practice)
This week I began looking into various inspiration sources for improving the dream sequences. Following the class feedback there was little to no differentiation between the past and present scenes which disrupted the continuity as well as created confusion.
Surrounding the 'memory dream-like' sequences of the animation I wanted to further push the limits of the sound design in a way that clearly draws a line between the two states whilst not breaking immersion or flow.
I watched some popular dream sequences from films such as Inception, Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind and Up. The commonly referenced 'married life' scene from the Pixar film Up was a great reference point as the themes share a lot of similarities while also being an animation.
youtube
Similar to what I already have established the, upbeat musical score by Michael Giacchino captures the carefree spirit of their youth with piano, accordion, and strings. This contrasts the somber tone of Carl's lonely present. Vibrant sound effects, such as Ellie's laughter and the rustling of leaves, enhance the immersive quality of the flashback, emphasizing the vitality of their shared experiences. Subtle temporal distortion effects blur the boundaries between past and present, heightening the emotional impact of the scene. Moments of silence or minimalism underscore Carl's grief and isolation, highlighting the stark contrast between past happiness and present sadness.
The transition between the two emotions has an instant switch visually with a paired mood change through the slowed pace of the score.
I aim to incorporate more sound design elements and motifs that will help signify not only a time skip but location change. I will also shift the transition from past to present to better continue the melody into a more melancholic mood through the technique used in Up.
2. Reflection
No class material to reflect on this week.
However regarding feedback during my presentation, I have taken into account the various things that I am currently doing successfully and what I can improve on.
The main takeaway was the success of the emotional impact that the score had on the narrative, as well as it's affect on the audience. The main problem so far surrounds the understandability of the actual narrative and the introduction sequence. This may be due to other factors that are a bit out of my control relating to the actual animation and my partners ideas being visualised.
Therefore the things I will change/ want to change are:
A more consistent use of score that is incorporated from the beginning of the video
A more clear differentiation between past and present scenes through the use of different sounds and melodic elements.
(In the past memory sequences, have a bigger focus on the use of dream-like modulation and reworking to better reflect what the grandpa is experiencing.
Some sort of musical motif used within the beginning of the video to hint towards this musical shift
A stronger use of sound design in conjunction with the score to not bore the viewer. An issue that the class had was the lack of initial interest in the video and confusion around what was going on.
As I said in the presentation, a small factor of this is the format of the unfinished animatic that makes it hard to differentiate certain sequences, but it is also in my power to make this difference more clear.
3. Progress
In the past week following the progress presentations I have made very little progress as I have been working on other class assignments. I am also still unable to complete any of the larger sections of content that I want to work around as I am still waiting on the latest version of the animatic.

Movies I watched this week (#170):
2 with French-Algerian actor Ramzy Bedia:
🍿 Youssef Salem Is Successful is a broad French comedy about a failed Algerian writer, who suddenly becomes famous when his tell-all book about his family wins The Prix Goncourt for literature. I liked the score made up of electronic Berber beats, and the two strong female characters, unorthodox and feisty. 7/10.
/ Female Director
🍿 Pecan pie is a 2003 Michel Gondry short-short, made at the same time as 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind'. Jim Carrey in pajamas drives a bedmobile while singing an Elvis tune.
🍿
2 more by unique Austrian documentarian Nikolaus Geyrhalter:
🍿 Homo Sapiens (2016) is an eerie, wordless and scoreless vision of post-human abandonment. Without explanations and with a static camera, it visits deserted locations around the world years after the people had given up on them. Derelict concert halls, prison cells, bank vaults and train cabins, from Fukushima, and Chernobyl, and the many other disaster areas people have left behind, surrounding them to the elements, letting the birds and the rain and the weeds take over again. It's hypnotic and transcendental.
It's as if Edward Burtynsky and the Koyaanisqatsi guys had sex with Werner Herzog, but decided not to give the new baby any clues. 💯 score on Rotten Tomatoes. 9/10.
🍿 His 2005 Our daily bread was similar: Without voice over narration or subjectivity, it looks at the insides of giant agriculture factories, massive industrialized farms and high-tech conveyor belt food processing. How do the packages on the supermarket shelves get there? Who picks the tomatoes, the olives, the apples and peaches? Who inseminates the pigs, slaughters the cows, guts the salmons, collects the chickens and the salt in the ginormous mines? Endlessly fascinating. Makes you want to stop eating food.
🍿
Steve Martin X 6:
🍿 STEVE! (Martin), the new 2-part in-depth documentary about this smart and melancholic comedian-musician. A warm and wonderful run-down through his rich life. He accomplished so much during his extraordinary career, and much of it so well. 9/10.
🍿 My third re-watch of his warm and funny An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life again, a riff on friendship. With friend Martin Short (Excellent in his 'Stepbrother to Jesus' number!). Impeccable comic timing. ♻️
🍿 Shopgirl, a wistful love-triangle, based on his novella and script, about class and romance. A lonely woman living in a Silverlake apartment, works at the glove counter of Saks Fifth Avenue. She is being wooed by two different men, an immature slacker and a sophisticated older Martin. Jason Schwartzman is generally unbearable to watch, but here he is an insufferable loser. Eventually, it's too slight, a perverted fantasy of a rich, white, old man. However, it's always nice to find Screenwriting Symmetry 101 touches, f. ex. when Martin kisses Claire Danes for the first time, it happens exactly at 46:00, one hour before the end of the story. 5/10.
🍿"Excuse me. May I go to the bathroom first?..." Another re-watch: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, an old-fashioned story with 60's sensibilities, which was indeed faithfully re-made of a 1964 Marlon Brando / David Niven vehicle. Mick Jagger and David Bowie were originally supposed to play the Steve Martin and Michael Caine roles. ♻️
🍿 The Absent Minded Waiter short (1977) was his first produced screenplay, directed by his friend and 'Jaws' co-writer Carl Gottlieb.
🍿 All of me, a lame "comedy" that aged poorly. Were the supernatural-themed 1980's nonsense the worst decade for movies? Just terrible. 1/10.
🍿
2 more by Jean Vigo:
🍿 First watch: L'Atalante, the classic enigma about barge dwellers and incompatible newly-weds and an old skipper who loves cats. I'll need to watch it a second time in order to fully appreciate its beauty. 💯 score on Rotten Tomatoes.
🍿 Jean Vigo directed only 4 movies before dying of TB at the age of 29. His Jean Taris, Swimming Champion was an innovative documentary that introduced some poetic avant-garde effects, slow-mo, underwater reverse shots, innovative freeze frames. (Photo Above).
🍿
2 Eastern European classics from 1965:
🍿 The Oscar-winning WW2 drama The Shop on Main Street, still considered one of the best Czechoslovakian films. A dim-witted, henpecked carpenter in the Fascist Slovak State is appointed "Aryan controller" of a Jewish widow's store. With Ida Kamińska as the confused old lady. Another 💯 score on Rotten Tomatoes.
🍿 Operation Y and Shurik's Other Adventures was the highest-grossing Soviet comedy in 1965, with 70 million tickets sold. 3 unrelated episodes of weird slapstick featuring some nerdy student named 'Shurik'. Tom & Jerry meet Richard Lester meet The Three Stooges. 2/10.
🍿
2 thrillers with lovely Paraguayan actress Lali González:
🍿 Rest in peace, a new, engaging Argentinian thriller about a debt-ridden industrialist who leaves his loving family behind in order to escape from a dangerous loan shark. Here Lali González plays a sexy young widow. The fancy Jewish wedding reminded me of a similar one in Damián Szifron's terrific film 'Wild Tales'. The ending was weak. 💯 score on Rotten Tomatoes. 7/10.
🍿 "Run, Victor, run!" 7 Boxes (2012), my first thriller from Paraguay. Like the Brazilian 'City of God', it describes a world of acute poverty, which made it a tense watch. It tells of a young pushcart boy at the sprawling Asunción market who has to deliver some wooden boxes with unknown content. This Lali González was a cute teenager here. 6/10.
🍿
3 Temporal Loops:
🍿 Instead of watching my favorite rom-com 'Palm Spring' for the 14th or 15th time, I tried the other acclaimed time-loop story Russian doll, my first anything with Natasha Lyonne. But there was no comparison. The tired NYC hipster atmosphere didn't hold a candle to the sunny flow of Tala and Abe's wedding, and none of the characters were as lovable as Sarah & Nyles. Not even Greta Lee! The first season was hard enough to stay awake through. 2/10.
/ Female Director
🍿 Repeat Performance (1947) is the earliest film featuring the Time Loop Trop. But it works more with the Hollywood concept of 'Destiny', the idea that "If you wish upon a star, all your dreams will become true", no matter how unlikely. However, it's based on a second rate Noir script, made by an unremarkable director, and with uninspiring actors. 3/10.
🍿 12:01 PM came out before 'Groundhog Day', and set up many of the rules for playing 'Time Bounces' from that point forward. An ordinary office Nobody gets stuck but only during the one hour of his lunch break. It was nominated for the 1991 Oscars. 4/10.
🍿
3 shorts by surrealist Kansas City artist Suzan Pitt:
🍿 Asparagus, an avant-garde feminist film, which was shown together with Lynch's Eraserhead. Strangely erotic, psychedelically-fetishist, and politically-ambiguous. A 'Planète sauvage' / R. Crumb sensual nightmare, full of (literal) shit and swallowed phallus symbols.
🍿 Joy Street (1995), a journey of a depressed woman from suicide to a colorful healing.
🍿 Pinball (2013), a drug induced, dissonant, nearly-abstract headache, played fast to the discordant Ballet Mecanique (1952 revision).
/ Female Director
🍿
My second (after 'The Bigamist') directed by film pioneer Ida Lupino, The Hitch-Hiker. It was "the first American mainstream film noir directed by a woman" and, interestingly, portrayed the two men who were taken hostages by a psychotic killer as helpless and emasculated.
/ Female Director
🍿
2 directed by Demetri Martin:
🍿 "Crest Atheist Formula..." Demetri Martin: Demetri Deconstructed, his latest stand up. The first five minutes were weak, but the rest was hilarious and funny.
🍿 Dean, his 2016 directorial debut, a low-key comedy about overcoming loss, was apparently a semi-biographical attempt to deal with the death of his father. Similar Indie vibes to 'People, Places, Things' and many other stories about young Brooklynite illustrators grappling with love, parents, and growing up. His clever drawings (here and elsewhere) are really lovely. 7/10.
🍿
2 Danish Oscar contender shorts:
🍿 This Charming Man won the 2003 Oscar for best shorts. It's a terribly outdated comedy of errors about racism and micro-aggressions and about a Dane who got mistaken for an Pakistani immigrant. 1/10.
🍿 The sentimental On my mind was nominated in 2022 for the Best Live Action Short. I actually forgot that I've seen it before. ♻️
🍿
The Mad Adventures of Rabbi Jacob, my second (and last!) flimsy, nervous comedy with Louis de Funès. When I was 10, I thought he was the funniest man alive, but in hindsight, he's just not. 1/10.
🍿
The Orchard End Murder (1981), a uneasy and unpleasant English story about two weirdos complicit in the senseless murder of an innocent girl on top of a heap of apples. 1/10.
🍿

In another part of the attacked facility, a scientist was hurryingly trying to gather as many documents and files as he could before he could flee. Mainly the information that was connected to only him. It was every person for himself now. Satisfied he got everything, the man placed the many papers in a file and put the bulging folder under his arm. He ran to the door and opened it only to be met face to face with a barrel of a gun pointed straight at his head. “Why hello there. I would like for you to come with me. Your compliance is mandatory of course.” Victor spoke with a vicious smirk. The trembling, pale faced scientist gulped and nodded silently before Victor escorted the man at gunpoint to the security/control room. It felt like a tense eternity as the others were waiting for Victor to come back. Soon the assassin finally arrived with the trembling scientist. “Hey pops. Got a present for you.” Victor remarked. Carl just nodded as he fixed a grim and glaring look on the scientist in question. “Hello Dr. Clems. So we meet again.” Carl spoke in a low tone. Even though a gun was held next to his head, Dr. Clems tried to fixate a glare of his own at the scientist. “So let me guess. You are behind this revenge scheme against B.E.A.W labs after what you were put through.” The man snapped. Carl’s eyes only narrowed as he spoke. “No actually. Matthew is the one leading the charge. This was his whole plan actually. Also this is not just about revenge. This is about delivering justice against you and all others who are nothing more than worthless excuses for scientists. Not scientists at all in fact, just immoral and heartless monsters who get a kick out of tormenting and torturing innocent lives just for your own selfish needs. Not all of you will survive this endeavor, but maybe you can. Despite our past interactions, I am willing to give you a chance to live here. Tell us where the master control switch for all the chipped people is on the control panel, and all you will get out of this is a prison sentence for your actions rather than a death sentence. I believe that is more than a fair deal for you?” Carl stated in a stoic tone as he held back a snarl. Dr. Clems sneered. “Why should I take any kind of deal from the likes of you. Either way my life is over. I told Professor Moran and the others. I told them that you shouldn’t have been forced to work as a scientist. That you would have served better use as an experiment. Otherwise we wouldn’t be in this mess. But no one listened to me. They thought you were still valuable to them because of your research and work in genetics. All you did was just create a bunch of clones that lived longer than they should have. What kind of psycho views their experiments as children anyway!” This earned the man various glares, especially from Gene. Victor pressed the tip of his gun further, the cold metal touching the man’s flesh. He was clearly snarling at the man’s response. Gene too was especially enraged because his precious child Becky was created the same way he was. Despite early health complications, she came out as normal and healthy as any other child. Just before anyone could react Jenkins spoke up. “Professor Woods, Gene, Archie and the others are in trouble!” Jenkins said in an alarmed tone. All eyes turned immediately towards Jenkins to see what the man was talking about. Victor gazed at Jenkins but he also kept his gaze on Dr. Clems, not moving the gun away from him. Jenkins pointed to the monitor to show everyone what had made him so worried. They all could see Moran and a bunch of mutated creatures attacking Matthew, Tristan, Constance, Sunshine, and even Becky. Gene and Carl especially looked horrified. Suddenly Carl’s expression became one of deep rage as he turned back towards Dr. Clems. In a blink of an eye, Carl grabbed the scientist by the collar and pinned him against the wall by the throat. What no one could see were faint glowing sigils suddenly appearing on the back of Dr. Clems’ neck. Waiting patiently to be activated. @dualnaturedscientist
Matthew wasn't sure if he should be so surprised by how resilient his son was. Hugh though wasn't looking very pleased. His expression was one of absolute exhaustion and worry. Gene of course picked up on this, honestly feeling slightly guilty over putting the alien through so much stress in such a short time. Matthew had shared that same worry over the mad scientist, knowing just how little time his son had to recover. Yet he couldn't say no. What would've that done? Make Gene all the more stubborn and make him do something just as rash as he did? No. He knew better than to do so. “As long as you don't overdo it. Of course. I don't think your friend could take much more of our recklessness.” Gene gave him an apologetic expression as he knew what his father said was true. “I know. I'm sorry Hugh. You know I have to do this. I'm not going to just stay in bed while all this goes down. I'll stay in bed rest after this all you want. I promise.” Hugh sighed, crossing his arms. “You wouldn't listen to me anyway. Don't you get yourself hurt during this or I swear I will strap you down and leave you like that while you heal up.” Gene couldn't help but let out a little laugh at that. He knew that the alien would absolutely do that. His eyes went back to the silver falcon in his hand. The mad scientist was still slightly worn out but he's never felt so revitalized like this. Given life anew in a strange way. It didn't take long for the mad scientist to get himself dressed. Alex and Tristan had wanted to intervene and keep him from joining but they knew that would've encouraged him more as well. Though that couldn't stop either of them from helping Gene. He gave them both a look that showed he wasn't going to let them coddle him. He's never let them do so before. Even when he wore himself down to the bone when Becky went missing. That thought had made him stop and looked around for her. Having lost track of the girl during his identity crisis. No one else seemed to have noticed until they heard a whoosh and saw Becky nearly tackled her father over. She hugged onto him, holding something with one hand. “Hey, kiddo. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to worry you again. I'll be fine, I promise. Confused but fine.” Becky looked up at him, still not quite believing him. She quickly then placed another item within his hand. It was the goop ray he had left behind during the chaos. She had gone back to find it to give it back to Gene. He stared down at it. “Aw, thank you for getting this for me.” In another city, they were unaware that there was another gathering. The mayor of Newport had just finished giving the heroes the go ahead to storm the B.E.A.W Labs near their city. They were met with a riled up crowd filled with villains, civilians and other heroes alike. They didn't appreciate that these people were messing with their heroes as well. Ones they've grown to love over the years. They were just as inspired by Maddrixs broadcast. Sure they were a bit more on the bloodthirsty side but they were nowhere near the level of Darius. He had angered them so much they've put aside their differences temporarily. Having a bigger goal to accomplish first before resuming the status quo. It was unsettling just how quiet they went when they had seen the heroes step out. Waiting with bated breath for them to give them instructions on exactly where to go. Hydro had been surprised to see an old friend among the crowd. J.J. the villainous jester. There were a few others they've recognized. The circus themed villains that loved to team up with the jester. A certain doll who was once part of the villain roster of Fair City. They were going to bring every single one of them to the facility. To wait for Maddrix the malicious to take lead and destroy the hellish place. Taking down all those who willingly worked within there. Experimenting on innocent lives. They weren't going to stand for it at all. Even Atomic Steele knew to finally put aside his fury whether he liked it or not. He still despised him but he trusted his friend despite what happened. He still cared.
It still felt weird to Atomic, learning all that he did about his father's biological relationship to Maddrix. From what that woman Margaret told him, it made the hero think back to moments of his childhood before the massacre. How his dad never talked about his grandfather only telling the boy he had one who died. His dad only talking in details about his grandmother. There were times his dad seemed sad and frustrated about something, when a younger version of Max tried asking his dad what was wrong, all his dad would say was that he was just worried about and missing someone. At the time Atomic had no clue his dad was referring to an estranged cousin. The last time Atomic saw his dad alive, before he told the young hero to stay put and safe, was when his dad was watching the television and seeing what was going on. Atomic clearly remembered his dad having a horrified look but also a pained and guilt ridden expression. Although Max still hated Matthew, there was a part of the young hero that took some pity on Matthew and his father's past. A part of him that was strangely glad his grandfather perished by Maddrix's hands. Gene was ready to leave with Matthew and the others to head back to city hall. He had finished assembling his gear and putting on his attire for battle. Hey this was a serious matter but Gene didn't want to look like a bum going into battle. He also was kind of unsure about putting on his old Dr. Two Brains attire, which was just his work clothes. So Gene decided to make a compromise combining his former villain attires with his own spin. With Alex's and Tristan's help, the two aliens gathered a new lab coat for Gene along with a new change of clothes. These clothes were in clean and pristine condition. They also helped him gather a top hat and a silver mask, something similar to his old Professor Terror outfit. He didn't have the original clothing since he burned his outfit after the massacre. There was also no time to add some special sequins or elegant designs to his clothing much to Gene's chagrin. Gene looked into the mirror one last time before he left with Matthew, Alex, and Tristan. Gene's still white hair was pulled back into a ponytail. This earned an odd reaction from Becky as she muttered "no sandwich words" which made Gene recall Becky once telling him about the Chucktopia incident. Becky otherwise reassured her dad that she wasn't bothered by his style. Gene's silver mask was similar to how his old one was. It was an eye mask with embedded designs. The top hat Alex got him was definitely something similar to a Victorian era top hat but with modern designs. Gene had kept his gloves as his hands were still altered. He had gotten rid of his usual goggles as he saw no reason to wear them over his mask. As Gene held his old staff in his hands, the one thing from his Terror days he could never part with, an eerie feeling went down his spine. He recalled memories of his past, when he first joined his dad into the field of villainy, when he lead his own rebellion of villains against his father, and when he took down Atomic Steele. That wasn't Squeaky in action nor was it connected to his old Two Brains gimmick. That was all him. Gene let out a sigh and small smile. He had no idea what he was going to do after everything was over. Gene definitely planned to give Steven back his name and identity since he was going back to his old name that had been established on official, yet forged, documents. Gene wasn't sure if he was going back into the field as a villain or take a break after everything he had been through. One thing that was for sure, Gene was going to determine his own path and no sabotaged experiments or crazy animals and people was going to affect what he wanted to do with his life from now on. Meanwhile back outside the hallways of the medical clinic, Matthew was learning one of the most shocking things in his life. "You were in the mafia!" Matthew exclaimed in a shocked tone. @dualnaturedscientist

i'm submitting the '00 for the decades thingie :)
cc: @roxy206 bc you both asked for this at the same time (ty i love u both); this time I'm going to try to be choosier bc i watch too much stuff, issue is, a lot of these conflate together for me lol
Favorite film: howl's moving castle (feels like a hug), pan's labyrinth (i am a sucker for a good fairy tale specially a good gothic fairytale), the devil wears prada (pretty clothes and it happened right as my burgeoning interest in clothes as a tool of self expression was starting to develop), before sunset (i am not immune to romanticizing the mortifying ordeal of baring yourself to a stranger you met on a train, the desire to explore a city all day and making a crazy plan with someone you barely know but are already a little bit in love with... plus i love vienna), in the mood for love (high on the list of media that have ever made me feel alive; this one could classify for all three categories)
Comfort films: the emperor's new groove (i can quote this thing by heart and imitate yzma perfectly in the latam dub), sofia coppola's marie antoinette (pretty photography that doesn't require me to think too much and banging soundtrack), legally blonde (happy people don't kill their husbands... They just don't!), phantom of the opera (the first musical i saw live lmao it has a very special place in my heart bc of it), mamma mia (duh)
"Good" film: up! from pixar (fun fact: the falls Carl and Ellie wanted to go to are inspired in a real place in my country, it's a good movie, only it reminds me of someone that's already passed away, I've named my favorite peacock in el retiro park kevin after the bird from this thing), big fish (no words just my heart doing the thing from the grinch and feeling full and growing three times in size, i had a huge TB phase), dark knight (i am too fed up by super hero movies in general but i have a soft spot in particular for nolan's batman and spiderman in general), kill bill (i do not subscribe to the religion of people that worship everything he does but the truth is tarantino*is* really good), eternal sunshine of the spotless mind (it's not one of my favorites nor is it something i watch for comfort, but it is up there okay? the first movie of jim carrey that made me think oh shit he's actually good, with a couple of years and perspective on relationships it's just gotten better for me)
