THE WILDHEARTS - SATANIC RITES OF THE WILDHEARTS - CD REVIEW
TheWildhearts have just signed a worldwide deal with Snakefarm/Integral, and Jim Pinder has produced the album (Bring Me The Horizon, Lotus Eater, While She Sleeps, Bullet For My Valentine) and mixed by Jim Pinder and Carl Bown (Trivium, Machine Head, While She Sleeps, Bullet For My Valentine, Bring Me The Horizon). “The songs were written during a period of transition, from extremely negative…

Speaking of this again, I just realised George Lever said Vessel is the "best vocalist I'll ever record in my life" instead of have recorded in his life like I heard before. That's even more insane to me 😂
You can tell George Lever has a deep appreciation for Vessel's vocals by how boldly pronounced and upfront they are in both albums he produced. Not to say Carl Bown doesn’t value them, but when you compare Sundowning and TPWBYT—with their stunningly clear backing vocals—Take Me Back to Eden almost feels a bit underwhelming in that regard.
Despite being my favorite album, my biggest disappointment with Eden is how muffled the backing vocals feel, like they're covered by something and lack that crystal-clear quality. I'm pretty sure that’s partly Vessel’s choice too, for whatever artistic reason, but it’s still frustrating when you know how breathtaking his vocal runs can be.
For example: try to compare the vocal runs in "The Apparition" with "Mine" or "Like That".
#you ever love someone's voice SO much you start complaining about (check notes) his backing vocals???#sleep token#vessel#sleep token vessel#george lever celebrating sundowning and tomb birthday every year got me in my feelings too.

Hey guys... So like. Did we know that before Thom Pike was a tour manager, he was a drummer in a band (Falling With Style) with 3/4 guys who would later become Holding Absence? Is this common knowledge, or have I stumbled upon gold?
I knew about Sam Hallett being in Blood Youth before working as a tech, and Thom working with them on tour, and I also did know Thom and the HA guys went way back*. But this I didn't know!! How cool!!
* Adamross and the rest of Glass Heart was also already working with him at this time btw. The connections are connecting.
Referring back to that recent post from @sleepanonymous, I am now wondering if George Lever also produced their stuff from before, given he has worked on both early Holding Absence and Sleep Token, and if that's how they all met 👀
(more ramblings bellow the cut, nothing interesting just me being insane. also i just think it's cool how all of these bands and people are connected. nothing more)
So. Timeline of events that I know of:
2015 - Falling With Style ends
2016 - Thom is now a Tour Guy ; Sleep Token and Holding Absence are born ; George Lever is producing for both bands
(and then there's that Carl Bown/B4MV thing somewhere around here)
2018 - Thom has been working as Tour Manager for Holding Absence and Blood Youth ; Adam and the (would-be) Glasses are part of his crew ; Sleep Token is touring with HA and Loathe (also G. Lever prod.) as an opening band ; enter Espera (🥹🥰💕😚💘🤭 this has nothing to with the post but I just like to think about them)
2019 - Thom is officially managing ST (probably 2018 too? idk about before) ; Glass Heart is born (again not entirely relevant but I stay on my GH propaganda always. Adam say thank you baby 💎🩵)
Then we have those collabs etc etc ; Sam leaves the band and becomes a Tech guy ; FTRB ; George stops producing (🥺🥲) ; enter Carl Bown ; ENTERS COOL MF VESSEL THE FOURTH (our ivy)
January 2023 - Sam Hallett joins the fold (🥹💙) ; the first singles of TMBE are released ; World Domination etc etc
#i came across this because i was looking for a specific photo and kinda went on an Instagram rabbit-hole#also this may be super not interesting to anyone but me but i only recently found out Micheal McGough filled in for HA for a while#even more unrelated but he just left being as an ocean and i'm emosh#also! i'm pretty sure one of the early 2017? 18? tours Thom worked on was in support of B4MV so that's also a thing?? i gues ???#to be fair. the uk rock/metal scene seems SUPER close. and given like half of these are Welsh / Welsh-based that's even a smaller circle#idk i'm literally just rambling here don't mind me too much??#(i swear i will get into HA one of these days. just don't have the patience to hear NEW new music rn)#sleep token#(technically)#if anyone is weird (derogatory) on this post i will wet your socks (turn off reblogs)

So wanna hear my thoughts on the whole Sleep Token/President situation?
Too bad you’re gonna have to.
So.
A lot of people are making connections with Sleep Token and this new unheard of band called President that’s just… gonna be at Download. Do they have music? No. But they’re gonna be there.
A lot of people have found that members of Sleep Token’s crew (like Carl Bown, Sam Hallett, etc) are following this account. And apparently they’re under like… the same management as Sleep Token or something? I think?
Anyway, it’s led people to believe that it’s actually Sleep Token, because of the weird stuff they’ve been doing/posting lately, and also the fact that a band that hasn’t existed until a few days isn’t going to just be… invited to Download. Nothing’s confirmed, but in all honesty it’s possible.
Why do I believe that this isn’t the case?
…
Because I don’t want to.
I don’t exactly understand why, if they were doing something like this, they’d choose THAT as their coverup. I mean, I guess it’d be unexpected, for a band like Sleep Token to choose something like President to be their “disguise” (why they’d make one in the first place I have no idea, but I guess we’ll find out what’s going on eventually?). Though I don’t really know why I just… don’t like the thought of that? Sleep Token going under a name like that, even though it’d probably not be permanent, though some people speculate that it will be?
I love when they’re silly on stage and all, but I think something like this almost feels a little too goofy for Sleep Token if I’m going to be fully honest. 😭
But I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
Thoughts?

About your tags about those known collabs with other artists, what are all the known collabs hes done? Id heard he did piano for bfmv before but i havent been able to find out which songs
Hello Anon 🖤 Thanks for the ask, I actually had fun typing all of this up and doing research. Spoiler alert: I am now sus of every and any song that George Lever and Carl Bown have produced that contain synth/keys 😅
Also, side note, listening to all of these songs while fact checking really cemented how unique Vessel is as a pianist. It’s like he’s playing in his own language, if that makes sense? It’s truly beautiful.
For Bullet For My Valentine, Vessel did the Piano Versions on the deluxe Gravity album: Breathe Under Water, The Very Last Time, and Under Again. I’ve heard a couple of times that he also did synths for the standard version of the album, but there’s no absolute confirmation of it, since he was only initially credited in the three songs I mentioned. He did have the credits changed to Vessel1 before they were removed altogether from the songs. The album Gravity was supposedly recorded between 2016/2017, so around the same time that the One and Two EPs dropped. I’m not 100% positive how he got that gig, but that is supposedly how he met Carl Bown (the producer for Take Me Back to Eden). It could also be the other way around, and Carl and Vessel already knew each other and he brought Vessel in to do the piano versions.
He is credited as a composer (ie he played piano) for Holding Absence’s song Purge. Their self-titled album was recorded in 2018, so around the time Sleep Token released the singles Jaws and The Way That You Were. Fun fact about this collab: the band most likely met Ves through George Lever, since he produced Holding Absence’s album, and that’s how the Loathe/Holding Absence/Sleep Token tour came about.
In 2019, he collaborated with The Hell on their song Jump the Fuck Up. This one I have the least information on, since the band is also anonymous and seems to have revolving members. The only credits on the song are the band name and the composer/lyricist Stephen Sears. I haven’t done too much digging, but I would not be surprised if the band had ties to George, Carl, or even both producers.
In summer 2020, during lockdown, he did a piano cover of Type O Negative’s Love You To Death with the vocalist of Forlorn, Megan Jenkins. Her band has previously worked with George Lever. I do have to warn anyone who looks up this song on YouTube, since you’ll see him in the music video that was filmed (hands, arms, chin, hair/hair color, back). He was uncredited, but the mv is proof of his involvement.
The band Malevolence stated in a podcast interview that he played keys on the acoustic version of Higher Place, but was not credited (at least one band member didn’t even realize this). The song was produced by Carl Bown, and since the album/song was released in 2022, I’m assuming it was recorded sometime in 2021, so between recording TPWBYT and TMBTE.
#anon asks#sleepanon answers#sleepanon rant#guest featuring edition#vessel sleep token#vessel#spotify link#jump the fuck up is so out of place on that list lmao#i still vividly remember being sent into orbit the first time i heard him singing on that track tho#also the fact that he covered a type o negative song#makes my inner goth so fucking happy#also i played the hell out of those piano bfmv tracks#so its a little mind blowing that i could have been into vessel's music that much earlier#if it weren't for the anonymity factor

I'm gonna be meta for a little bit, but huge shout out to George Lever (Sleep Token's previous producer).
Like, don't get me wrong, I love Carl Bown (he's worked with soo many of my favourite bands and killed it), and I love that Vessel himself got involved in the producing process of TMBTE. The album is amazing, everything sounds extremely clean and professional, and very, very concise.
But George Lever? That guy has a way with music that just... It's very innate. I think One was self-produced (although I'm not entirely sure), but everything else apart from TMBTE was produced by him - and you can tell.
There's this very raw and organic feeling to his work that I think it's quite rare to find nowadays. Especially the drums - I really wish he could've been the one mixing it for the last album because man, he just gets it.
When I first listened to Eden, I remember thinking "man, this drummer is insane". But then I went all the way back to One and slowly made my way to TPWBYT and ket me tell you, Jaws' drum line left me flabbergasted. I know that George and ii have been friends/working together for quite a while prior to ST, so maybe that's one reason why. But they just work so well together, everything sounds so clear and crisp, it feels almost impossible.
This is not to discredit the amazing, fenomenal work done on TMBTE - there's a reason why it's my favourite album and why it gained the traction it did - nor to downplay ii's insane skills (as if one could ever do that, he's just that good). But George's work with ST is just so, so brilliant, and I really needed to put it out there.
It's been a while since I've checked in on him, but it seems he's a bit inactive nowadays? Idk. Whatever the reason why he's no longer working with them, or why he's a bit mia (or was for a while), I wish him all the best, and I'm just so thankful for all his hard work.
#his work on tpwbyt in particular is just - fantastic#i do think it speaks volumes to the kind of artists vessel and ii are#they're obviously incredibly talented and knowledgeable and they have a very genuine approach to their work#they seem to be very careful and particular in choosing the people they work with and how their music is supposed to sound#if you haven't seen George's q&a on the subreddit i highly recommend you do. also his yt channel#i love the way he talks about his work and mindset. it's so very interesting#all of this to say that one of the reasons st is so successful comes from the amazing team behind it and all those surrounding them#it really makes a difference when you have the right people working with you. and it makes me appreciate all the background people even more#cus at the end of the day sleep token is not just 2 or 4 or 7 people - it's everyone involved#excuse my ramblings but yeah. feeling very grateful on this friday night#george lever#sleep token#darya is unhinged
