We're in unfortunate implication nation, baby

The Season 5 finale, with the help of episodes like Chat Blanc and Ephemeral, establishes that Adrien's emotions are to be seen as inconveniences or even seen as potentially dangerous in such a way that they need to be controlled by another person. This validates Gabriel's abuse of Adrien by suggesting that he was right all along to control Adrien, lest he goes out of control by being emotional and destroys the world or something along those lines.

By all logic, the Paris special doesn't portray a true morality swap situation, just a story about the same people with the same capacity for good who have gone down the wrong path, but can be brought back to the light. Everyone who is good in our world is good in theirs, and vice versa, as evidenced by the fact that the terrorist children are going to be redeemed but Chloe is still somehow still evil. Gabriel is among those who are considered good.

The above point is further driven in by the fact that Gabriel is akumatized (I forgot the word used in the special and I'm too lazy to look it up) into Guardian Angel in the special, a phrase commonly associated with caring and protective caretakers of any kind even though his son has become a magical terrorist despite his wonderful parenting, somehow.

Gabriel is akumatized into Guardian Angel by Marinette, and considering the revelations from the Season 5 finale, this works as foreshadowing for her siding with Gabriel and essentially continuing his work of controlling his son. Gabriel is named Guardian Angel by her, and in the narrative, this implies that she validates him as a parent, metaphorically now and literally later.

Considering the lack of morality swapping, her actions in the finale and the fact that Marinette is the writers' mouthpiece, this is the writers' way of informing us of the wonderful parenting abilities of Gabriel Agreste, reinforcing the idea that Mr. Monarch is not evil, just misunderstood.

In fact, the Paris Special has Claw Noir be a murderous villain who is willing to Cataclysm his opponents in a universe where Gabriel is a good father, leading to the conclusion that Gabriel's lack of abuse and control of his son has led him down this dark path. The implication being that he needs to be abused or else he'll become a villain.

And this is supported by the fact that Gabriel akumatizes Chat Noir into an angelic version of himself, complete with the angel wings and white costume and all, showing us that Adrien on his own is prone to becoming a volatile monster and needs Gabriel to keep him line and turn him into the angel he is today.

I hate it here.

The Ship Butterfly Effect Scale

Time to dunk on Adrinette again, huh? Look, I was never in the camp that the lovesquare should get together yesterday, because I could see how them being apart romantically served both of their character development better.

Marinette has serious issue with telling people what she's feeling, even when it's something positive like she likes them or wants them around. This shows in how, in Puppeteer 2, Adrien was surprised to discover that Marinette considered considered him even a friend. This problem persists in her other relationships, where Cat Noir thinks he's replaceable and Luka felt extremely neglected as her boyfriend. Marinette shouldn't date anyone until she gets a grip on that.

Meanwhile, Adrien needs friends more than he needs a romantic partner. All of Adrien's relationships come with an agenda. His father uses him as child labor, his primary caretakers are both paid to look after him, the only reason he met any kids his own age before running off to school was because they were either the children of his parents' friends or related to him. Having Adrien's primary relationship outside of all of this be one that comes with a lot of expectations creates for a toxic, codependent romantic relationship where Adrien would feel the need to constantly please his parther regardless of his own boundaries because he's used to all his relationships being conditional. That's why Adrien should focus on platonic relationships with no expectations first so that, by the time he gets into a romantic one, he'll have learned that people who care about him won't always expect things from him.

So, of course the show put them together without either of them learning anything, so Marinette went full control freak with Adrien just moving his fawning response from his controlling dad to his controlling girlfriend. Thanks. I hate it.

Sorry, had a thought or two to share XD

Was musing on the M-Trio and realized how well it works that Nino is the one to flip out at Lila. Cos like, hear me out here:

Alya & Chloe are fairly fearless & acclimate to danger very quickly. They also tend to solve their problems by going on the offensive. & with Alya always loving super heroes & Chloe being raised to be ruthless, both embrace the dangers & risks of the job gleefully.

In contrast, Nino is someone who embodies the idea that courage is overcoming fear not an absence of it. He's a natural caretaker and while not prone to paranoia like Marinette we know how deeply he cares and how quickly he cane work himself up over his loved ones.

Meaning Lila running around claiming to be a super hero gets under his skin like nothing else. Here she is endangering herself her family, his friends, and potentially all their families if her claim make Hawk Moth start poking around their class more than he already has done.

No wonder he exploded, he's been simmering on the worst case death scenarios since she started while Alya & Chloe are mostly just like "Tsk, wanna-be glory hound."

Honestly yeah I also think like.

So from Alya's POV she's annoyed and all, but she can easily shut down Lila's sphere of influence, so to speak. Like, Lila's claims of being bffs with Heroes won't really leave the classroom because Alya won't post it on her blog (both because she knows it's false, but also because she has better perspective in this timeline to know that even if it was true she shouldn't do that).

Chloé is also annoyed but she's.... kinda used to this shit and doesn't exactly care? People are going to make up whatever the hell they want to get what they want. She comes from a world of half-truths and loopholes and twisting words to get what you want. She might have a better morality now to know that this isn't 'okay', but it's currently entirely benign so she's not inclined to deal with it just yet.

But yeah Nino is the one who is very protective of the people he sees as 'his' and he would be upset about this. Both the larger endangerment of her 'knowing the Heroes' lie, but moreso the direct 'she's manipulating my friends'. I think he'd initially try to be more chill and talk to her kindly in the first place, when her lies are just 'I know X celebrity so please be friends with me!' vibes. But when she starts doing more direct manipulation of them into doing what she wants, that's when he snaps

she is nearly the splitting image of her mother, with dark hair and shining eyes, and when she first approaches, hands hidden behind her back, mischievious in a way that reminds him so dearly of adrien, luka can't help but smile.

"hi, emma."

"hi, bampas!"

he picks her up before she can duck out of his grasp, and just like the old man he is, a grunt comes out of him when he moves back to sit in his dining chair. laughter peels out of her like it's the funniest thing she's ever heard.

she's a squirmer, made a little bit harder to hold because her dress balloons out similar to the shape of a cupcake— her shoes are shiny and rather tough on his pants, with tiny ridiculous buckles that he spends a good time fussing with to get on her in the mornings when it's his turn to dress her, and emma wants to choose to wear a dress. it was adrien's turn this time, which is why her socks are frilly and her mary janes are polished and she's wearing a plastic hairband, because adrien doesn't know how to fix her bangs in a way that marinette makes look simple.

"what are you up to?" he asks her. she's still small enough where she only needs to sit on one of his thighs. "are you hungry? it's almost dinner time."

"not yet! i have something for you!" her voice is tinny like a house sparrow, and one of her hands touches his wrist. in her other, a little package, wrapped hastily with tissue paper and a significant amount of clear tape. "i gave presents to papa and mama, already. i couldn't find you, but mama said you'd be in here."

the princess is never alone. not only is it dangerous to her, but it is also dangerous to everyone else; she's not in control of her magic, not yet, and though she's good at glamour, she's not good at everything else. a sneeze could make something catch fire. they've already gotten the unfortunate problem where adrien's books will disappear if she says something innocuous. which is why when luka looks up, there is a caretaker all the way at the doorframe, attempting to be quiet and out of the way— but luka wasn't raised in a place where servers blended into the landscape of a room, so he greets them, and all the while emma continues to stir in anticipation.

"where'd you get me a present from? school?"

"today was money day! i learned how to use money."

"oh, yeah?"

"it was fun!"

she goes on to explain the little room the class had been taken to, with many colorful books and low tables filled with baskets of stuff. pencils, rulers, erasers, shiny things that caught her eyes— all of it were accessible provided they had enough money— he doesn't recall ever seeing this letter from the school, but then again, it was probably marinette that filled it out. he knows that if adrien had seen the envelope, he would've sent far too much money, because he spoils their child like the princess she is. then, they would take their little basket to the cash register, where every cent is counted, right up to the total.

all that to say... "i got you something!"

"what'd you get me?"

"open it!" she says with a giggle. "please? i want you to open it."

i want bampas to open it!

well, that's an easy contract.

he struggles a bit, because the tape is sticky and the tissue paper is lilac colored— her favorite color, because it's the color that jules has in her wings— but inevitably he finds himself unwrapping it to reveal a little, tiny, plastic kalimba.

oh.

"oh," luka says, picking it up. it's smaller than his palm, child sized, with bigger tines made for children learning a new instrument, rainbow colored to get their attention. it's perfect. "emma... this is beautiful."

she's glowing like a star. "do you like it?"

"i love it."

Miraculous Ladybug: Demon Slayer au (Backstories)

Marinette: The only child of a baker family, she grew up learning how to bake from her parents. Her parents loved her dearly and she was sought after for her kindness and beauty. One day, a suitor appeared in the evening, promising all sorts of wealth and riches in exchange for Marinette, but marinette could tell something was off with the man. Her parents, while seeing a wealthy suitor that would take care of their baby girl, seemed confused by their daughter's dismissal, decided to agree and refused the man. It turned out that the man was a demon and in his rage killed and ate her parents. He planned on eating her too. Her creativity helped her avoid the demon and inconvenience it for several hours while she tried to escape. The demon was in a rage and while it was close to sunrise, he was set on devouring Marinette. It wasnt until the demon slayer corp arrived and killed the demon. Marinette, with no parents and seeing the monsters around that caused havoc, decided to become a demon slayer in order to ensure no one else would lose their families to demons.

Alya: The middle child from a large family. Her father was the caretaker of exotic animals for a rich couple while her mother was a cook. Alya's eldest sister was supposed to be married off but her sister refused and ran off. Alya was offered as a replacement bride. Alya was not fond of the idea and planned to run away as well. Though fortune or Misfortune appeared when her husband to be was eaten by a Fox demon. Alya managed to get her family away from the demon, and after seeing it, she became OBSESSED with exposing the truth of demon's existence to the world. Alya is the foremost expert on demons and studied them diligently.

Nino: was trained from birth to be a Demon slayer, nino's father was a former corp member until a lower moon cut his arm off in a fight, forcing him to retire. Amaranthine - Chapter 4 - A Moment

Marinette sat at the cashier counter as she sketched out designs for the bouquets. She was lost in her mind as she ran through different combinations for Adrien and his bride to be. Typically, she’d design bouquets for the couple that she felt best embodied them, but this was an issue. Adrien was easy enough. He was intelligent, bold, charismatic, and incredibly handsome, the perfect model. However, without some idea of who his bride was, she fell flat. Perhaps she could meet with him. Pick his brain for ideas and learn about his potential choices.

“Hey, girl. What’s up?” Alya said.

Marinette screeched and fell back.

Alya laughed and offered a hand. “You alright?”

Marinette grumbled and took Alya’s hand. “You did that on purpose.”

“Well, usually, but not this time. I actually used the front door this time.”

Marinette furrowed her brow. “Then why didn’t I hear the bell chime?”

“Good question. I didn’t hear it either.”

“Oh, for the love of. Longg! Where’s the bell?”

Longg didn’t speak, but her answer came in the form of rapid chiming.

“You better not hoard that one too!” Marinette yelled.

“So, aside from the bell thief, how’s things been going?” Alya asked.

Marinette sighed and returned to the counter. “Business is good. Had a special order come in about a week ago.”

“Oh! Give me all the details.”

“So long as this stays between us.”

“I swear it.”

“Adrien Agreste requested one of my sweetheart bouquets. He’s going to give it to the woman who he’ll be announcing as his wife-to-be at an event in a couple of months.”

Alya squealed. “That’s a massive scoop! Did he tell you who it’ll be?”

“Well, no. It was his caretaker and butler that gave me the order. I should have asked more, but I got distracted by her health.”

“Why not ask her now?”

“I don’t want to bother her. She’s really not doing well. I suppose I could ask Adrien, but I don’t want to bother him either.”

“Why not? I mean, you two are friends, aren’t you?”

“No. I mean, maybe? I don’t know. Besides, he’s a very busy man. There’s no need to bother him.”

“Yeah, but this is on the grounds of business. And you don’t want your reputation to go down the drain because you ‘just don’t want to bother him.’”

“I know, but I dunno.”

“C’mon, let’s talk. What’s this really about?”

Marinette hugged herself. “Well, I’ve just been thinking. Am I wasting my life away.”

Alya’s eyes widened. “What do you mean?”

Marinette sighed and leaned on the counter. “All my life I’ve obsessed over the idea of soulmates and devoted myself to the wicca arts all in the pursuit of someone I don’t even know their face in this life. Now, I’m not saying I’m going to give up, but should I really be shutting myself away until I may encounter them? And even if I do, what’s the guarantee we’ll even fall for each other? What if I just waste my life hoping for a fairytale romance like what Rose got, only to be utterly disappointed?”

“Wow. Who finally got through to you?”

“The bell thief.”

Alya snorted. “She’s going to need to teach me her secrets.”

“Focus.”

“Right, right. Look, that’s what I’ve been saying all this time. I know you’ll always hold out hope of meeting your soulmate, but I don’t think you should just sit on the sidelines. You really should be out there living your life. Aside from being a hero.”

“Well, what should I do first?”

“Maybe invite Adrien out to lunch to talk business and maybe after we can hang out. Not to say you’ve been ghosting me, but you have been.”

“Could we maybe just skip to the part where we hang out? It would be the middle of his workday and I’m sure he’d-.”

“He’d love to have lunch with you!” Longg’s muffled yell came from the apartment above.

“Excuse me? What did you just say?” Marinette roared.

“I messaged him a while ago and he just responded. He’s also offered to pick you up, to which I said yes.”

Marinette turned red, then paled. She fanned herself as her heart beat faster and she had difficulty breathing.

“Oh, this is bad, this is bad, this is bad! What do I do? I can’t fight Longg to get back my phone. I can’t weasel out of this one. What do I do? I’m not ready to have any kind of meeting with an influential man, a modern-day crown prince. I’m just an apothecary, a flower girl. Oh, what do I do? What do I do?”

Alya placed a hand on Marinette’s shoulder. “Alright, first, you’re going to breathe. Deep breath in, deep breath out.”

Marinette did as Alya instructed.

Alya guided Marinette to the back and sat her down. She took off Marinette’s apron before she started on Marinette’s hair.

“This is a shock, but you mustn’t forget something important. You may be an apothecary, but you are also a mighty warrior. A knight errant that serves no master that has risen to safeguard those who cannot. A little lunch to discuss business is nothing to a knight such as yourself. No matter who it is that you’re talking with.”

“You’re right. You’re absolutely right. I am a warrior. I can handle a little lunch.”

“There you go. Now, let me think.”

Alya played around with different hairstyles when Longg burst into the room. Longg had a white frilly, high low mini dress, brown leather jacket, and brown riding boots with her.

“Found a nice outfit to wear.”

“Perfect. I’ll leave your hair down then. Now, get changed. We’ll keep an eye on the front for when Adrien pulls up.”

Marinette nodded. She took the clothes and shooed out Alya and Longg. The pair took their places as a fancy car parked in one of the lots out front.

Longg cooed. “Well, well, looks like he’s here. He wasted no time.”

“No saying anything embarrassing! Longg!” Marinette yelled out.

“Fine! I won’t say anything about you.”

“Longg!”

Longg huffed and leaned on the counter.

Alya shook her head, then looked back at the door as Adrien entered the store. Alya’s eyes widened seeing Adrien. Everything about him was perfectly cut like a marble sculpture. From his flawless jawline to his bulky, perfectly molded physique. She felt as if she were gazing upon a Greek god.

“Good afternoon. I’m here to pick up Marinette for lunch. We’ve business to discuss.”

“You must be Adrien then. If I may be so bold, the cameras really don’t do you justice. They wouldn’t happen to put filters on you to dull your beauty, would they?”

Adrien chuckled. “I wouldn’t be surprised if they did at this point. Whatever it takes to mask a beauty such as I.”

“For the little good it does. I imagine you have difficulty walking the streets without being mauled by fans and paparazzi alike.”

“Paparazzi, yes. However, the fans oddly seem to find me intimidating. It’s quite the refreshing change that you don’t seem to.”

“Well, when you face monsters as part of your job, you tend to find people less terrifying. Especially when you need to be in the thick of it all.”

“My, do I find myself in the presence of one of our valiant heroes?”

“You flatter me, but no. I’m one of the crazed paparazzi. However, instead of getting a cushy job stalking people like you, I get the mysterious golden dragon.”

Alya noticed a spark of interest in Adrien’s otherwise deceptive eyes.

“That’s quite the perilous position. You aren’t worried in the slightest?” Adrien questioned.

“Not at all. Danger is my middle name.”

�� Marinette laughed as she stepped through the doorway. Alya turned towards Marinette but chanced a glance at Adrien. His eyes were now glued to Marinette with his pupils dilated and a certain spark and longing to them.

Alya allowed herself a smirk as she threw an arm around Marinette. “Face it, girl. You’re just jealous I get to live the high life while you’re stuck here. Honestly, you need to live a little more.”

“There is a very fine line between living and throwing your life away.”

“Maybe, but I know the golden dragon will always protect us. Even the stupid ones.”

Marinette smiled and rolled her eyes. She removed Alya’s arm and approached Adrien.

Adrien’s face lit up as he closed the gap. “It’s been a long time, Marinette.”

“That it has. I’m glad we have this time now. I hope it was no trouble with your work.”

“Not when it comes to you. For all the work you’ve done for Nathalie, all you need to do is ask and I’ll be here. It’s the least I can do.”

Marinette’s shoulders drooped. “How is she? Is she taking the herbs? Please tell me she is resting.”

“She’s taking them, albeit with a fight every time. Nonetheless, she’s comfortable when she takes them.”

Marinette sighed. “I wish I could do more for her.”

“You’ve already done far more than any doctor has.”

“It’s true, girl. Don’t sell yourself short. You may not be able to cure people, but you can make them comfortable. To some, that means all the world. No one wants to see their loved ones suffer.”

Longg snorted.

Alya tensed as she looked at Adrien. The levity had fled and was replaced with annoyance.

“Speak your mind. I’m sure we’d all love to-,” Adrien started.

Marinette put a hand up. “Oh, no. No. The last thing you should let either of them do is speak their minds. You’ll be running in circles all day. Especially Xiulan.”

Longg grinned and fluttered her fingers in a wave.

Marinette shook her head. “Right. Alya, will you lock up for me?”

“Yeah. You got your key?”

“Yup, all good.”

“Excellent. You two have fun now.”

Alya watched Adrien escort Marinette to his car. She smiled at his chivalrous nature as he held open the door for Marinette, then shut it once she was in. She waved at Marinette as the pair drove off.

“Well, have fun locking up. I’m going to keep an eye on her,” Longg remarked.

“Now, who said you’d be going alone?”

Longg smirked. “I thought we learned our lessons?”

“Come now, how could I pass up the chance to see my bestie actually living. And maybe I don’t trust Adrien completely.”

Longg laughed. “You say that like you trust in the first place.”

“Only the ones like Mari.��

Alya moved and locked up the store. She headed to the back with Longg behind her.

“You ready?” Longg asked.

Alya pulled out a fox tail necklace. “Ready. Trixx, shroud.”

Whenever I see post about "Adrien is too emotional that's why it best to keep secret from him" (about Marinette decision), I always want to shake the poster and bite them of needed. That's how irritated I am with this unreasonable logic. BECAUSE DAMNIT IF YOUR FRIEND BEING TOO EMOTIONAL THEN HELP THEM LADYBUG SAID SHES THE LEADER THE BOSS THEN ITS HER RESPONSIBILITY TO KEEP HER TEAMATE IN CHECK NOT GHOSTING OR IGNORED IT IF SHE CHOOSE TO IGNORE IT THEN SHES ALREADY FAILED AS A LEADER

Yeah! It should not be that hard for Marinette to, idk, help her boyfriend out and support him when he's going through a tough time. Like, she doesn't have to be his caretaker or therapist and look after him 24/7, but the writers never let her do even the barest minimum and it's just. And then they'll go on to frame her as in the right for lying to her abuse victim boyfriend about his abusive father and the fact that he's a Sentimonster, because god forbid Marinette ever has to be put in the horribly inconvenient position of having to see her boyfriend have emotions that don't benefit her in some way.

Why Marianne? Was she planned to exist on pre canon?

I think one of the most disappointing underutilizations in canon ML is that of Marianne LeNoir. She's postured as this mirror of Cat Noir- the love interest of the hero, the temptation from keeping them truly great as the guardian. a character who exists to serve Fu's narrative, an example of his noble sacrifice in service to the greater good to the miraculous and the order.

She is perfect for showing the failures of the order as a concept. An example for how they failed Fu and how Fu uses his trauma and self-flagulation of his mistake to force himself to atone rather than seek change from a method that has failed time and time again. How Fu is on track to push Marinette to be the same. His failure to consider Cat Noir at all as anything than another honor-bound miraculous holder when he is- and very much never was or never will be an honor-bound miraculous holder -is also explicitly setting him up for failure. In fact, it did end in failure!

...This is, of course, if the show didn't insist on the order being a "cool magical kung fu club" and that depicting Marinette as the guardian as anything less than an honorable higher calling. Despite what the show tries to say about this- the outbursts regarding Marinette's stress over being the guardian and her lone wolf task are superficial and lack substance from a narrative position when... her being the guardian was never the issue, it was her sudden lack of guidance when she had been leaning on Fu for so long.

Personally, I think the guardians are fucking stupid and tired and have no place in the show- not as a goal for the characters to aspire to.

That being said, Marianne was prime for becoming Chat's mentor- maybe not as entwined with the miraculous as Fu- but as someone who is able to lay out Fu's mistakes and prepare Cat Noir to handle these mistakes that he is forcing onto Marinette. It's a pretty unanimous decision that Cat Noir needed someone, anyone, to place his hand on his shoulder and say "it's okay, I understand. I can help, even a little bit." or even "Now is not the time for love, you need to be someone who can support her. Grand displays of love are dangerous, show your love in little ways with patience."

"But you were patient, and he never came back for you."

"Because he did not want to trust me- he was afraid to. What is happening is a cycle of abuse- the master is trying to pass what he has learned onto his student, even if it will hurt her. You cannot try and destroy it, but you can guide it. Ladybug still trusts you."

Thats a loose idea, at best. We all know it didn't turn out like that and she ends up being madly in love with Fu and ends up being his caretaker, and Adrien ends up a nothingburger of a character- and such ideas would have to require that the show care about something other than Marinette and her suffering.

Ultimately, Marianne could have been the key to addressing and possibly transforming some of the worst parts of ML into the greatest parts. But alas.

Sorry can't seem to stop musing right now >< But on Forged AU.

I feel like a natural place to sort of conclude any given confrontation regarding Ladybug's decisions on Chloe. Would be less on how Ladybug screwed up, or why she had reason to take issue with Chloe.

Though these things & more would definitely come up in the mud flinging.

I think the actual emotional cap off would logically be around the fact that. If Chloe warrants leniency or caretaking despite everything (Which she does) then Marinette probably warrants some as well given that she's been expected to carry this shit for so long.

I don't mean being Guardian, I mean just fighting in general. But then also being the one singled out by Fu. Which may have come with privilege's but also meant things were even more on her now.

She had to be the mature one, she has to be the one with the plan, she has to be the one studying the spells and helping them work. She has to be the one determining who gets a miraculous and hand holding them through using it and then taking it back & managing them. She is the one whose attendance is apparently suffering at school because of hero duties as Adrien is I guess insulated cos of his wealth or he just says his dad called and no one checks?

Worse still, she actually trusts and respects adults, so it doesn't occur to her to question Fu. Because even if she really wants to share identities, or let Alya be a perma Rena. She can't because Fu said not to and he's the responsible, worldly, knowledgeable adult in this situation and she has to respect that.

Basically, she has reason to be cracking under the pressure and not be making great decisions. In the same vein that Chloe has reason to be breaking under abuse and trauma and lashing out.

So I sort of feel any conclusion would be both of them kind of just collapsing against a wall, all screamed and cried out, unable to really hold any anger at the other anymore.

But that's just a thought.

Oh yeah no absolutely like.

Right now Forged focuses a lot on how Ladybug's(and Marinette's) actions hurt Chloé. A lot. And even if, logically, Chloé knows there's probably something bigger going on, it doesn't change the hurt. She's so used to trying so hard and getting rejected again and again that it's difficult to really have it sink in that this was just something else happening that just happened to turn out like it did, that it wasn't an intentional 'fuck you'. And even when she does admit that, she's also done pretending like she isn't being hurt by it, because intentional or not it hurt.

But also yeah just. Marinette is going through her own kinds of hell and is scrambling to figure out a way to get everything together and save the day and not let everyone fucking die. So ofc she's going to make mistakes and lash out and not realize that what she's doing may hurt others and not stop and think about why people react to her decisions the way they do. /She/ knows why she did this thing, and even if it's 'bad' it's for the Greater Good. But whoever else doesn't know that, they just see her hurting them.
