Instruments: This one is complex for me.  Grew up in a musical family.  I own a flute.  However, upon my father’s eventual demise, I shall inherit a banjo, a mandolin, a guitar and probably something else (Dad straight up has a collection of instruments worth more than his house).

Favorite Author: Oof, this one’s tough.  I read too many genres, and a lot of fanfic.  So let’s break it down.  For hard sci-fi: Jack McDevitt.  Fantasy: uh...statistics say Anne McCaffrey (just because of sheer volume), but if you count alternate history as part of fantasy, then Jacqueline Carey.  Romance: Karen Marie Moning.  Mystery: toss up between Lindsay Davis and Lilian Jackson Braun.  Don’t ask me to pick a favorite fanfic author.  I love too many to choose.

Favorite Movie: The Dark Crystal, hands down.

Last Google Search: Some kind of Mass Effect lore.

Song Stuck in my Head: No Light, Florence and the Machine.  It is the theme behind my latest WIP.

What am I Listening to these days: At home, not much.  ME OST was the last thing I listened to and that was days ago.  In the car?  Currently Imagine Dragons.

Dream Job: To be published (I write a fair amount of original stuff too)!

Love Language(s): Never given it much thought.  If I had to pin it down, I’d say probably Acts of Service and Words of Affirmation.

I made a view screen for my kids' cardboard spaceship. You can find it over on @instructables as "Screen for a Toy Spaceship". It's made from two filament spool boxes, a sheet of transparency and sticky tape and did not take long to make. Why we built a giant spaceship out of cardboard

This weekend one of Nicaragua's best toy store, TOYS, was having a big sale, so they were expecting many customers. We were lucky to have been offered space to show off our game and start promoting our brand. And so, our first marketing lesson happened. 

We set up a table, wore the same color, and brought some giveaways:

The kids that played loved the game, and that was awesome. However, something felt wrong—kids were not automatically drawn to us even though they were to other toys in the store. Reflecting on this observation, I had an AHA! moment (which was more like a duh! moment)—What do kids see? Two big, strange people, a big, boring table, and an unknown, whited-boxed game. What do they want to see? A big, fun, and cool thing. 

I emailed my team my realization and a very, very basic sketch of something I thought was cool, and we could make quickly.

Like that, our Sunday morning turned into a do-it-yourself (with whatever you can find while everyone is asleep and all the stores are closed) kind of Sunday morning.

As soon as we were done, we went to the store excited to showcase our new set up. 

And it was COMPLETELY worth it:

The big, strange people magically became more approachable,  as more kids on their own discovered and started loving the unknown, white-boxed game.
