Mingi nodded and ordered some card soldiers to fetch the carriage and guard the trio as they stepped outside of the castle. Once they were all outside, the carriage arrived and Seonghwa & Yeosang stepped inside first. Mingi held you back and had you face him. A hint of worry was in his eyes as he gazed over your face.

The King and the Jack were so enraged that they sent the deadliest creature to burn down the island.”

An apprehensive feeling washed over you and you suddenly regret saying that you wanted to visit the Spades next. The carriage was pretty small after all. “We’ve arrived. Stick close to us.” You nodded and stuck close to Yeosang as the three of you exited the carriage and made your way to the Spades castle.

While the Diamonds castle depicted a millionaire’s house and the Hearts castle was a lot more lively, filled with heart shaped bushes and enthusiastic chatter, the Spades castle personified death itself.

A dark moat surrounded the castle, dead trees were planted throughout the yard, crows either flocked around or tried to rip out your hair, and you swore that even the gardeners tending to the black rosebeds narrowed their eyes at you in suspicion. One glare from Seonghwa and the gardeners minded their business. Of course, this didn’t stop the other patrons milling about the Spades castle from crowding him, you, and Yeosang. The anxiety of the people surrounding you was rising, especially since the patrons prodded at you with questions that definitely made you uncomfortable. You received questions that ranged from accusations of being a spy to being a concubine for Seonghwa and Yeosang. You felt tears swell up in your eyes and you were about to ask Yeosang to get them to stop when a powerful voice rang out in the crumbling stone building that was the inside of the Spades castle.

“UNLESS YOU DON’T VALUE YOUR HEAD, I SUGGEST YOU LEAVE OUR VISITORS ALONE!”

The patrons soon quieted down and dispersed like a school of fish before going back to their business. You sniffled and Yeosang hushed you in a comforting way while Seonghwa walked forward a bit before smiling lightly and bowing.

“It’s good to know that you still have power over your insolent subjects, Jongho.”

You looked up and saw a man wearing an all black leather outfit. His intense eyes, that were brown with slight caramel undertones and had spade outlines in his irises, softened at the sight of Seonghwa speaking. His stone cold resolve melted and a bright gummy smile was on his face as he walked down from his throne and towards Seonghwa before bringing him into a warm bear hug. He then walked over to Yeosang and hugged him as well before shifting over to face you.

“Are you going to introduce yourself or shall I call you ‘cutie’? Because you certainly are one.”

A blush spread across your cheeks and you hid your face in Yeosang’s chest. A soft giggle could be heard from behind this Jongho guy and Jongho stepped aside to reveal a short man. “I’m the King of Spades, but you can call me Hongjoong. If you didn’t know who Jongho is by now, he’s the mighty Jack of Spades.”

“Goodnight to you both. I’ll see you in the morning.”
