So many bad CGI cartoons, but the plots were EPIC back then… I don’t even know how many people grew up watching Dan Dare: Pilot of the Future, Xcalibur and the Captain Scarlet CGI ‘remake’, but those shows were a core memory of why I used to wake up early every single Saturday morning. Such a shame it’s so hard to get the full series on DVD.

⚠️ NEW EVENT ⚠️
On 24th October 2024 (7pm) there will be a talk hosted by the exhibition team at The Hub at St Mary's in Lichfield! Tickets are £10 and must be pre-booked through the website linked here or use the QR code on the poster below:
It looks like the team will mostly be talking about the shows and their production history through the items at the exhibition, plus interviews with guests Phil Ford and Marc Silk.
It's primarily a Thunderbirds focused exhibition, so I think the addition of "time lords" in the title comes solely from Phil Ford being one of the guests (he wrote and produced for a couple of Dr Who episodes, plus the spinoff series Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures). Alongside his Dr Who work, his bio claims he is best known for being a head writer on New Captain Scarlet - the 2005 CGI reboot of (and not to be confused with) the original 1967 Supermarionation series Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons.
Voice actor Marc Silk will be best known amongst Thunderbirds are Go fans as the voice of Captain Rigby. His Supermarionation connection comes from being the voice of Troy Tempest in the 2021 Big Finish audio adaptation of the spin-off novel Stingray: Operation Icecap. He also provides various voices in the ongoing Stingray: Deadly Uprising - Marine Minutes minisodes, available on the official Gerry Anderson YouTube channel.
If any of this info has piqued your interest then please follow the links provided to The Hub at St Mary's website for more details. If you can't make it to the talk, then there's still time to see the exhibition detailed in my original post until the 2nd of November this year.
#original post was too long already so this addition got hidden#so I'm posting it on it's own so people can see it better#Fanderson exhibition#54321 FAB! The Art of Supermarionation

Steve’s Endgame Ending fixed
What if at the end of Endgame when Steve is returning the stones, he has to give up something he loves, right? So what if he gives up his super-serum effects (an au tweaked and borrowed from @growingpaynes-art ), and turns back into pre-serum-Steve? A list of reasons why I think this would work:
A) Straight off the bat it’s easy to keep Steve in the MCU with Chris Evans’ contract ending if they replace the actor who plays pre-serum-Steve (obviously with a guy who looks similar to the first movie, but without the CGI). I know people might be confused why he looks different but the MCU’s changed actors before and it’s not the hardest stretch of the imagination. Also thematically it’d be cool to have Steve be literally unrecognisable to the audience.
B) I think a lot of writers for the Avengers are so focused on writing ‘Captain America’; ‘bland, stoic, with no sense of humor’, that they forget about Steve Rogers; the young disabled man who would put his life on the line to fight fascists. This would be a great way to get back to the basics of Steve’s character and show the audience who he truly is.
C) Honestly it would just be nice to show that Steve is just as righteous and brave with his disabilities, something not often shown in media. Even the MCU likes to focus on Steve’s asthma and ignore that he actually was disabled. (which i’ll touch on in a second).
*and now for some more headcannon-y stuff*
A) From screenshots from the movie, and a list at Disneylands Tomorrowland exhibit, the canon list of Steve’s disabilites and health problems are:
Asthma
Anemia
Diabetes
Color-blindness
Arrhythmia
Scoliosis
Chronic colds
High blood pressure
Easy fatigability
Heart trouble
Sinusitis
Fallen arches
Partial deafness
Stomach ulcers
Pernicious Anemia
Astigmatism
Nervous troubles of any sort
History of; scarlet fever, rheumatic fever
(Jesus Christ Steven)
B) It’d be cute to see Steve actually be able live with his disabilities, unlike in the 30’s. I cannot stress how much eugenics there was back then (and still is now, but WAY more casually acceptable back then). Even the actual Captain America storyline reeks of it a bit; experiment on a disabled man to ‘fix’ him and turn him into a soldier. However in the 21st century imagine if he could get the help he actually needs! Obviously a lot of his stuff is chronic, but he could actually live with it instead of just surviving like he would have done. And be able to afford them, unlike back in the Great Depression. Back braces, inhaler, mobility aids etc. It’d be nice to see a disabled person living with themselves as the HAPPY ending, instead of as a tragedy as it’s usually played.
C) The story of him actually seeing worth in his old (new?) body and himself instead of just a vessel for Captain America. A self-acceptance arc. Being able to retire in peace without anyone recognising him as Captain America without having to give up his life in the 21st century.
D) The Smithsonian exhibit is so closely tailored to his propaganda persona that it fails to acknowledge him as a person. I wouldn’t be surprised if the general public has never even seen a photo of him pre-serum, or knew how bad his illnesses were besides ‘just asthmatic and skinny’. He could easily walk around and not be noticed by anyone.
Tldr: Steve’s proper ending in Endgame should have had him return to his skinny form in exchange for the stone, and him being able to retire to finish art school in peace.

A thought: as much as I had a big dislike towards the CGI remake of Captain Scarlet, seeing White's weapon collection gave me an idea for the OG White... :3

Okay I just found out something. So we all know Captain Marvel. (BTW this post is for marvel fans) and her movie. I've watched that movie multiple times. Love it, I think it's written fairly well, great CGI, funny script, good lore and story, love how everything ties in, overall its a really good movie; and captain marvel is one of my favourite superheroes, and one of the most badass.
WHY THE F*CK do people think she's a "bad movie and bad superhero" like it's one of the really good B.E movies! (Before Endgame)
**I'm using B.E as Befoee Endgame because A.E (after endgame) is arguably the worse marvel era. Don't get me wrong, it has some great stuff in A.E, but B.E is just better overall.
Anyways, back to what I was saying. I think k Brie Larson was a great actress and did really well portraying the character Captain Marvel. Not to mention captain marvel was one of the overpowered superheroes in the B.E era, before they started making everyone OP to defeat big CGI villains and to make their movies more action packed to get more views and stuff. She had good plotline, good powers, cool backstory, funny, and genuinely one of my favourite female superheroes.
I would love to see her as the new face of the MCU, A.E. considering they killed off what was generally considered the "face" of the MCU, Iron Man and Captain America, they haven't put much focus on one or two specific people to be aforementioned face.
Captain marvel hasn't been killed off, she has amazing potential, and she's personally one of my favourite 'Big Badass Backup To Fight Big Strong Villain" in those "No hope left" moments.
I don't understand the hate on her. May e its because she was, along with Natasha Romanff, one of the first female superheroes on-screen in the MCU. Sexism is a big thing in movies and stuff, but I have some reasons why I think she and another person- who I will mention later- should be the next 'Face of the MCU'.
1: the previous 'face' duo was Iron man and Captain America. So it sta ds to reason, along with what marvel has been doing to be more racially and gender inclusive, that we should have 2 female superheroes.
Yes I know the whole 'really overexaggerated feminist film superhero plotline new budget annoying superhero to earn more money and get higher ratings' thing is annoying; but hear me out.
Point 2: I have a few options, but to continue off of point 1; I feel like a good combo would be The Scarlet Witch and Captain Marvel. (Wanda Maximoff and Carol Danvers)
They are both powerful, badass, good storyline, great actors behind them heroes/characters. They could make for a good duo to contrast from the B.E duo of men.
Point 3: yes u know that Wanda is 'dead' BUT before the rocks fell on her, you could clearly see a flash of RED MAGIC in the rocks. After the entire Dr Strange MoM (multiverse of madness) plotline was 'Scarlet Witch has grown in power she's following us into DUFFERENT DIMENSIONS and was prophesied since the DAWN OF TIME, and has unlocked much more of her powers, I HIGHLY doubt some normal old rocks would kill her.
It's just unlikely considering how obscure some of marvels foreshadowing has been, we know that they foreshadow films that come out like 3 years later.
Point 4: moving away from Captain Marvel and Wanda, how about a new duo.
Bucky Barnes and Yelena Belova. Its similar to the old duo of Captain America (man out of time, from 1940, soldier) and Iron Man (normal human, with special training/ gear that is one of the only things that makes them super.)
This duo would be interesting, especially as we've seen both bucky AND yelena on an official marvel movie poster together.
I personally love both characters;and it pays homage to the golden age of marvel B.E.
Bucky is homage to Captain America (obviously) and Yelena is homage to both Iron Man AND Natasha Romanoff.
And it could allow for more opportunity of the old age to come shining back through the new age, in the form of two humans, who have a rivalry,
(I think it would be interesting to have bucky and yelena to have a mild rivalry at least, considering we chose them due to there similarities with the old duo, cap and stark)
Who are also enhanced in ways that gives them an advantage in fighting, and it could give a lot of opportunity to save marvel. And bucky is a fan favourite character, so considering marvels reputation going down now their movies are getting worse COMPARED TO B.E, I think this could be a great way to bring the nostalgia of the old movies back.
So my original rant was about captain marvel being hated. Sorry for making you read all this, and if you have read everything here, I thank you immensely for giving me the time and chance.
I really miss the B.E era, and hate how they kill off all the OG great characters for new, sh*ttier superheros like Kamala Khan.
So here is just some ideas in my passionate rant which I would love to see. I love Wanda and Captain marvel, but personally I think I would prefer the Winter Soldier and White Widow duo because it would need less fancy magic CGI, and give the film(s) they appear in a more B.E and better quality feel then just a bunch of CGI that takes away from the quality of the movie and storyline, and the lack of CGI ( I mean the bright magic flashy stuff they constantly use in A.E, not the general cgi they more often use in B.E)
Would give the film(s) a better, more enostalgic, more authentic, emotional, just overall better film quality and plotline.

Lemmings
The fact that all Colour-Coded Officers, and the Angels were off-Cloudbase in a fortnight long training refresher – at the World Senate’s command – was enough to put Colonel White’s nerves on edge.
The replacement compliment of terrestrial staff was, as expected, highly competent and highly capable of successfully completing the duties now required of them. The fact that they were terrestrial staff, and not assigned to Cloudbase in the first case was a very fine line of distinction. Assigning personnel to stations at the creation of Spectrum had been a fraught process, and many of the men and women temporarily staffing the base had every right to be there.
But events had overtaken them all, and the experience the Cloudbase officers had accumulated in dealing with the Mysterons now made it very difficult to dispense of their services, even if these group trainings sessions had always been intended. White’s nerves vibrated at the slightest sound from the communications systems.
So when Lieutenant Silver cheerfully announced an incoming communication from Doctor Fawn at the Helsinki base where all his most experienced officers were currently stationed, he had a sinking feeling in his gut.
And when the entire conversation was Fawn rather abruptly telling him: “Get down here. Now.” White felt sick.
Whatever White had expected to find on arriving at Helsinki, it wasn’t to be hustled immediately into the terrestrial base’s medical suite.
Fawn met him in the reception area, his mood apparently not having improved since he called Cloudbase. With a curt jerk of his head, Fawn stalked off into the corridors, unerringly threading through identical corridors.
As they approached a set of large doors with a sign in two languages, neither of which White understood, Fawn called over his shoulder. “I am a Doctor, Colonel. Not a veterinarian!”
White went to respond, but Fawn slammed his way through the doors, an unnecessarily dramatic entrance to the room beyond. White followed, and his jaw dropped in shock.
The room was the main ward, and all the beds were occupied. To his left, and sporting various casts and bandages lay Lieutenant Green, and the Captains. Along the other wall were the Angels, similarly encumbered.
Fawn stormed to a stop in the middle of the room, and spun on his heels, boots squeaking on the linoleum. “You have encumbered me with a pack of lemmings,” Fawn growled.
He spun again, pointing at Scarlet, laying confined with a neck brace, and a stunned expression on his face. “And that one is their king!”
As White struggled to regain his composure, Fawn stalked back out the door. “Until you find staff whom I am properly qualified to treat, I am on leave!” he bellowed, before disappearing.
The doors settled into stillness before White found his voice. Fixing his staff with a cold gaze, he cleared his throat. “Ladies and Gentlemen, I trust there is a perfectly reasonable explanation for all of this.”
Notes:
The standard disclaimers, I do not own Captain Scarlet, either the Original or CGI Series. (Although I do own copies on DVD.)
I do not do this for money, but for my own (in)sanity and entertainment.

The animation might be a bit dated but even now the CGI series of Captain Scarlet really holds up.
The only bad thing about it might be that Captain Blue looks more like a generic soldier than the friendlier version we see in the puppet series....

The Fastest Man Alive finally gets his own live-action solo flick with several other superheroes from the DC Universe lending a helping hand. Ezra Miller portrays The Scarlet Speedster who uses his superpowers to travel back in time to change the events of the past, however worlds collide when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future.
Oddly enough, with a number of superheroes making appearances, there is only one major super villain in this 2 hour and 24-minute affair, General Zod … a Superman villain. The Flash becomes trapped in a reality in which Zod has returned, threatening destruction, and there is no one to turn to. The Flash is left to coax a vastly different Batman (Michael Keaton) out of retirement to help rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian … albeit not the one he’s looking for, and to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows.
The film starts out with an amazing sequence where the Ben Affleck Batman is in hot pursuit of criminals on his new and improved Batcyle and The Flash is left to rescue babies at a hospital. Watching this sequence of Affleck makes me realize how cool a solo movie with him might have been. Besides a large dose of action, the movie also relies on humor to carry the viewer through a nearly 2 and ½ hour film. Some of the jokes land, but unfortunately most of them don’t. Auspiciously though, the action is enjoyable enough to carry the bulk of this outing.
After Barry changes the past and returns, he comes face to face with himself, or an 18-year-old version of himself. This eighteen-year-old version of Barry Allen is super too … super annoying. Present day Barry needs his other self to help him resolve the problems that he has created. Ahhh … time travel movies.
Keaton’s portrayal is both nostalgic and fun. He delivers a couple of legendary lines from his original 1989 Bat-flick while his classic musical motif by Danny Elfman plays in the background during the major events. For a lot of Bat-fans this was a dream come true, although I was left amazed at how spry Batman was at 70-year-old.
Sasha Calle’s Supergirl was lifeless and with no emotion, very reminiscent of Brie Larson’s unlikeable Captain Marvel. Another female character waisted was Kiersey Clemons’s Iris West; don’t expect any notable love story here. The main emotional draw of this film is the love between a boy and his mother. Barry goes to great lengths for the love of his mom, not realizing one minor adjustment to history has major ramifications throughout time.
The Flash suffers from two major problems; horrendous special effects and the lack of any real villain. It’s hard to believe that with all the money spent on this flick, the computer animation is flat out cringeworthy in most places. The other thing that really bothers me is how DC has such awesome super villains that Warner Bros. has yet to tap into. The Flash is yet another example of that.
With all that said, overall, I thought The Flash was still fun and much better than the last couple of DC movie releases (Black Adam, Shazam! Fury of the Gods). Even with the bad special effects, the CGI cameos were nice to see and added to the film’s enjoyment, however, like Barry Allen, this film is its own worst enemy. Instead of squaring up against a legendary villain from Flash’s large gallery of amazing rogues, the Scarlet Speedster is left to battle a timeline that he put into place with another, much more annoying, version of himself by his side.
MOVIE GRADE: C-
4K Reviews:
VIDEO QUALITY 📽️ : A
In my opinion, you won't get a better picture quality than here. The Native 4K (2160p) transfer looks fantastic even with the horrible CGI in place. Colors burst on your screen at home that are equal to, if not better than, that on the silver screen.
AUDIO QUALITY 🔈 : A-
Although the dialogue is extremely low and hard to understand at times, the action sequences are bombastic and sound wonderful in this Dolby Atmos & True HD 7.1 sound conversion.

Thinking about how 2 of Gerry Anderson's shows have been rebooted (semi) recently - Captain Scarlet in 2005 (w the terrifying 2005 era cgi 😅) and Thunderbirds.
And now I'm wondering which one might be next? I'd love to see a modern take on Stingray but what do y'all think?
Have I missed a reboot?
Reblog and let me know which show you'd like to see and how you'd like it done? I love the physical sets with cgi characters that the did for TAG but that's cuz I'm a bit of a slut for physical effects.

Once Upon a Time season 4A thoughts
I’m rewatching OUAT and I wanted to share some of my opinions on each season!
- Funny story about this season, back in the day when I was watching OUAT for the first time, me and my dad watched it on netflix, and when we finished season 3, season 4 wasn’t on netflix yet, so we bought a box set and then a week later (no joke) it was put on netflix lol
- It’s beck from You!
- That cgi ice…
- I mean marian is a little bit right (even though I don’t like her)
- I feel like Regina’s redemption was a bit fast, and her only motivation for being good is Henry (not her having actual remorse for her actions)
- Rumple visiting Neal’s grave :(
- The ogre wars are the funniest thing in this show
- How long did they last? How did they start?
- I guess we’ll never know
- Regina… girl… just turning evil at the smallest inconvenience
- RUMBELLE HONEYMOON
- They are so adorable omg
- Him trusting her with the dagger… awww
- Aaaaaaaa! The beauty and the beast dance
- This is too cute
- “Maybe we should have gone with baelfire” yeah if you want him to get bullied
- Sidney is so thirsty for Regina lol
- THE SORCERERS HAT
- I’m sorry but the enchanted forest also being called misthaven??? I kinda hate it
- “Anna, I will find you” would you say… you will always find her? Lol
- LONG HAIR DAVID
- Omg he looks like he should be riding a horse on the cover of a romance novel
- “They call her bo peep” aka the least menacing name ever
- What are your intentions with my daughter???
- I forgot they made bo peep a lowkey mafia boss
- Not David calling her a warlord lol
- “When I was six years old, one morning I woke up hearing my father and mother going at it” yikes
- Ohhhh they were fighting… I thought they were doing something else
- Nooooo he died from drunk driving
- Ok I think I’m a full on captainswan shipper now
- “I don’t like to say such a name out loud” he’s not voldemort
- I’d know that giggle anywhere…
- INGRID
- This is the frozen 2 we deserved
- Oooooooo she got the white streak
- Ponytail Regina looks kinda fruity ngl…
- That painting clashes so bad
- Marian looks like she ate a blue popsicle
- Why don’t they disguise Elsa? She’s not exactly looking inconspicuous like that
- WILL SCARLET (For some reason I called him will roland for the longest time)
- Wait but didn’t he literally switch it out with the real dagger though???
- The way he hooked her arm!!!
- It’s zoso
- Ooh has rumple not “succumbed to darkness in his heart”?
- Captainswan date!!!
- “I don’t pillage and plunder on the first date” lol

- LILY
- Awwww they’re cute
- I like how she poofs away in a little blizzard
- Ooh this is like the broken glass curse

- Omg plot twist (I actually remember this lol) Ingrid was Emma’s foster mom
- THAT OGRE IS SO SCARY
- Ogres killed my mom…
- OAKEN
- “I pray you never have to cross paths with that twisted man” she’s married to him lol
- Omg the duke’s moves lol
- Rumple is in every single story
- This man is everywhere
- Ew the duke of weselton is such a creep
- Oh no she froze her heart
- Yikes what happened to focus on your wife???
- Zelena actually could have been the sister Ingrid was look for
- She was born with magic and misunderstood
- Why does Robin dress like a lumberjack???
- I forgot about the whole rumple stealing Emma’s magic thing
- Why doesn’t Ingrid wear shoes?
- Why do they hate happy? What did he do?
- I really like the emma/elsa friendship
- Rumple stop being evil and just be married to belle!!!
- At least for a season
- My plan to resist the curse: wear goggles
- Noooooo the vows before they die
- That is so sad
- Honestly serves blue right
- Hey, at least the curse looks pretty
- Alternate plan: tear out everyone’s hearts (the curse didn’t work on hook because he didn’t have his heart)
- Everyone fighting each other is really funny
- Awwwww that’s actually so cute (Ingrid adopting Emma)
- Why does anyone bother running when they can just poof away
- Henry? More like Kevin McAllister
- And… she ruined it
- That’s sad :(
- Rip Ingrid
- Finally a villain that shows ACTUAL REMORSE for their actions
- “Don’t you sneeze on me, you son of a—“ lol
- Oh, rumple. When will you learn?
How I feel about the characters this season
Love: Belle, Emma, Anna, Hook
Like: Rumple, Elsa, Ingrid, Kristoff, David
Neutral: Regina, Snow, Henry
Dislike: Marian, Robin
Hate: Hans, the duke
Season rating: 7/10
I liked this season more than I remembered liking it! The beginning felt a little slow, but it got really good towards the end. I like Ingrid and I think she is the best ‘misunderstood’ villain in the whole show. Her sacrifice was so sad but such a payoff! I’m just not a fan of the Marian plot and Rumple being evil for the sake of it (he didn’t really have a strong motivation for his actions imo)

I decided to check out Captain Scarlet and I enjoyed it until the last 10 episodes or so. And the ending isn't an ending.
So I decided to check out the 2005 CGI reboot and man... It's so bad in every way. But I somehow already have a sunk cost fallacy because I watched the original.

So the spouse and I recently finished watching all of the original Captain Scarlet - the one with the puppets and the incredibly high on-screen body count for a "kids' show".
And I tell ya, I have theories. If I can get them into any sort of coherence I'll probably post them, but for starters:
This man is a gay icon and - I'm pretty sure - Lieutenant Green's dad. I will elaborate.
I am aware that Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's stated backstory for Charles Grey (his actual name) is that he's a widower whose wife died possibly in childbirth - but where's the fun in respecting canon?
White is exceptionally Dad-like to the whole Spectrum team; even to the point where, during the penultimate episode*, he pulls Captain Scarlet in during an emotional life and death situation and tells him to get a haircut.
Throughout the entire run, he just gave me the strongest vibe of a very "straight gay (yet catty and sarcastic)" father figure who had seen some shit and thrown hands in the past. Again, referring to his backstory, he was a rebel leader against a tyrannical British government, helping to overthrow it, and then became not only the youngest fleet admiral on record but retired to head up the London branch of the 'Universal Secret Service', becoming a feared spycatcher.
I imagine that under this tyrannical government, a lot of LGBTQ+ rights were repressed, which has led to his particular attitude (as perhaps an artefact of the show being made in the 60s, he really gave me the vibe of someone forced to live in the closet for much of his life, who now doesn't give a fuck).
Speaking of giving a fuck. He's Lieutenant Green's dad. Perhaps this happened during a time of indiscretion after the death of his wife, before he fully came out of the closet, I don't know, he might just be bisexual! But he's definitely Green's dad, and Green doesn't know this.**
I base this theory solely on how overly protective he is of Green, even more so than the rest of Spectrum. He refuses to let Green go into the field except under duress, keeps him literally within eyeshot at all times at the communications desk, and goes far softer on him than his peers.
Incidentally, the show takes place in 2069 of what we can assume to be an alternate history where architects think that a "car park" consisting of one giant spiral concrete entrance/exit looming over London is a good idea - but assuming for a second that the divergence point is still in our future, and that Colonel White is in his fifties during the show, that means he would have been born in the last decade.
And that the UK becomes a fascist dictatorship as if that would ever happen lol ahahaha i made myself sad
Anyway. Yeah. Colonel White is the best character in the show. I'd follow him into certain death against an immortal and unkillable enemy any day of the week.
*This episode is revealed to be All A Dream but I have no reason to believe everyone in it was acting at all out of character.
**I know that in the CGI remake Green is not only gender-flipped but also there's an episode where she has to literally kill her own father, but that's clearly a different universe.

"Do you expect them to actually build a spaceship??"
YES!
Fuck that, yes I want to see them build an actual spaceship in miniature have you seen that shit????
Heads up, big rant including the muppets, Gerry Anderson TV shows, Batman films, and the Wallace & Gromit studios.
I am autistic & physical effects will get me to see anything. I got into Five Nights at Freddy's because the movie uses actual animatronics made by the Jim Hensen company and they look incredible.
And that brings me to the Muppets & the most important saying whne it comes to effects in film: "CGI can age but a cool puppet will always look like a cool puppet."
There is a running issue where people forget that the Muppets are just puppets, even when people can see the puppeteer. They've miced kermit instead of the actor, theyve given the directions directly to the puppet, ive seen interviews where the puppeteer is sitting on the couch with the puppet and everyone's like "yeah that's creatures real and that's their handler"
You couldn't get that reaction with CGI because no matter how good your CGI is, it never looks quite right.
Look at baby Yoda (Grogu)
This mother fucker cost like $5 million and is worth every cent. He will never not look adorable af.
Now Side Tangent:
Yes the Jaws shark looks dumb and shit but that thing scares me more than the Meg.
Like that thing is real, my brain can see that it's a real thing
This guy looks like Bruce from Finding Nemo & my brain keeps being like "is it at a slightly different resolution than the people???"
(But maybe I'm biased idk)
Anyway let's now talk about 2 of my fave children's TV shows:
Gerry Anderson's Thunderbirds & Gerry Anderson's Captain Scarley & the mysterons
These shows use puppets, practical effects, miniatures, and in general look so fuckin stupid.
You can see the strings and they cannot walk.
But when they needed to blow something up?
They made a miniature and blew it the fuck up.
This is the opening credits to the Thunderbirds
And this is a miniature being burnt in Captain Scarlet
They look cool as shit. (& started my general obsession with practical effects & blowing things up that continues into my mission impossible, fast and furious, James Bond, and myth busters phases - all of whom crashed real cars, really blew things up, made physical sets or filmed on location)
And that brings me to Christopher Nolan's Batman movies who were known for their practical effects, miniatures and real chase scenes, one of which cased a super expensive iMax camera to be crushed between 2 cars while filming the Joker truck chase scene in the Dark Knight
And that truck flip?
The flipped a real truck, that's a real fucking truck:
(Splitting cu the app has a 10 image limit JhC what is this 2012)
Marvel movies have completely eliminated the concept of practical effects from the movie-watching public’s consciousness

Me around a month ago: Yeah I like Captain Scarlet but I’m more here for Thunderbirds :)
Me now: Captain Scarlet is so bonkers and hilarious and I demand more Content be made of it as I need to soak it in. Oi, Thunderbirds fandom, why not extend some love to your sister show?!
#Captain Scarlet#To be clear I am talking about the 60’s show#not the nightmare cgi version (which may be good in its own right but... ugly cgi...)#anyway the distinct 60’s Flavour is half the camp value#I’m also reclaiming the tag from the stupid Marvel radiation (she says as someone who enjoyed the MCU)

Would you believe this is a reboot of an Anime co-created by two British creative heads?
In all seriousness, the son of the legendary Gerry Anderson is kicking off a new puppet based television series in the vein of Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet. It's amazing in its commitment to practical effects first and foremost with only some CGI as supplementary.
If you're looking to find something original and eye catching compared to the tried and true reboot craze of today, check this and other of the Andersons legacy. Their work hardly caught on across the pond so I hope this could change things.
