If the characters of B99 were on TikTok:
-we all know Gina would be tiktok famous within a week of her making the app!! She would be going live on TikTok while working at the precinct she would have followers sending her money and gifts
-Amy would dominate BookTok!! She would be posting reviews of all her favorite books and making Tiktoks showing off all her binders!
-Jake would be re-enacting iconic movie scenes with green screen and voiceovers but like the editing would be crappy so you could probably see people from the precinct in the background he would duet random people who act out Die Hard scenes
-Holt would tell everyone that TikTok is a mindless waste of time when secretly he is on TikTok specifically he would be on the orchestra side of tiktok and he would comment on everything correcting their inaccuracies he wouldn’t make any TikToks because he doesn’t know how and his account name is probably still user947297392
-Boyle would go viral for making some special Nana Boyle dish that accidentally catches on fire and he would think that he went viral for cooking but really it was the fire that made him go viral
-Terry is definitely on FitnessTok making daily content of him at the gym and his comments will be full of thirsty comments but secretly his fyp will be Mommy TikTok and he would tell Sharon all these hacks for their girls
-Rosa is too cool for TikTok but she will end up accidentally being in some of Jake’s TikToks just in the background and people will end up commenting about how hot she is instead of whatever the tiktok is about, like all the comments would be like “I’m having a bi panic” and Jake will think people are crushing on him but it’s really Rosa

One of the most deserved Emmy wins in history was Andre Braugher for his work as Det. Frank Pembleton on Homicide: Life on the Street. (That show alone is worth signing up for Peacock to watch.) He also won for his work on the mini-series Theif, and was nominated for his more recent, and also excellent work as Captain Holt on Brooklyn 99 (two iconic cops, two iconic shows, and that’s only skimming his career!). We lost a legend.
Since Homicide is an older show (and was not available on streaming for way too long), here’s a taste of his work on one of the best cop shows ever:

the balcony bromance shows of the 2000s: some notes
(boston legal, 5 seasons, 2004-08 / house md, 8 seasons, 2004-12)
you will wonder, how do these guys keep their jobs i mean seriously, in many episodes
there is a balcony where the two male main characters + coworkers hang out + have homoerotic moments
the younger man is played by an actor who was a very beautiful boy in an iconic 1980s movie; said movie will be referenced by name in an episode
the older man is played by an actor best known for another iconic role like say maybe a useless foppish British gentleman or a starship captain; this role will outstrip it
candace bergen appears, delivers killer put-downs
john larroquette appears, is john larroquette
moderate drinking
copious drinking
many many beautiful women and attractive men will come and go in the cast, sometimes without explanation; the two guys will be there for all of it, come hell or high water
the guys in question love women, love them love them love them, one of them has been married multiple times, the other is a slut with one dark haunting woman behind him, but they will nevertheless end up together in a life-changing situation when the series finishes
someone has a sex doll and is overly fond of her
character gets away with murder
character gets away with malpractice
someone says ‘lock and load’ while wielding a weapon in the workplace (water pistols count shut up)
one of the actors involved pretends there is no homoeroticism whatsoever; has absolutely never played one half of an iconic queer-coded couple ever before nope nope nope
smoking cigars, phallically
meredith hope eaton appears + does some groundbreaking stuff on representing characters with dwarfism
jail time
character sees psychiatrist played by someone about to become best known for iconic comedy role rather than previous serious roles (sue sylvester, captain holt)
autistic characters that main characters understand in ways that others don’t, for what are obvious reasons to 2020s viewers
the Only Sane Woman has a thing for one of the guys and lets them away with more than is reasonable given her position of responsibility
epic, destructive jealousy and meddling when your best boy friend starts hanging out with someone else
character says something insanely un-PC and/or downright offensive to someone, then makes life better for same someone using their mad professional skillz
you will wonder, but seriously are these guys sleeping together because that would make this plot moderately less insane, often
you will never wonder, do these guys love each other; the show doesn't work if they don't

For the favorite Black characters I've got to submit Captain Raymond Holt. Listen, is Brooklyn 99 Copaganda? Yes, yes it is. I recognize that and I know there's lots of problems for that reason. However, despite that the show is still (mostly) genuinely enjoyable. I've seen the Coral Palms episodes probably 50 times each by this point because they're so enjoyable and a huge part of that is Captain Holt and his undercover work.

The brilliant Andre Braugher (may he rest in peace) plays such a complex and interesting character. He's by the book, he's willing to stand up for what is right, he's a gay icon, he has a very particular sense of humor, he's genuinely caring about his team. Every relationship he has in the show from his husband Kevin, to his father/son type relationship with Jake, to his mentor/mentee relationship with Amy, to his genuine friendship with Gina… and on and on are so enjoyable to watch. He's easily the best character in the show.
He was honestly my favorite part of the show when I watched it, and definitely the best part no question. I love a good deadpan humor. Not dry, which a lot of people think deadpan is. But... It has, to quote him, gravitas. When he's speaking he's dead fucking serious but it's funny. I love it when people are funny like that in media. Rest in peace to Andre Braugher, truly.
