Also that just makes me think, how many of the european languages have had more complicated capitalisation than just the beginning of sentences, names and places in the past?

Anyway I'm thinking about the balcony scene in dai again and what solas's dialogue implies. He says, 'it would be kinder in the long run' (to end things before either of them get in too deep) only to add 'but losing you would...'

Would what? Solas doesn't trail off like that usually. I think it's so telling that he does here; the urge to kiss Lavellan overwhelms his 'wiser' faculties. I personally think he's about to say 'losing you would be unbearable' or something like it. He realises there what he's been denying to himself: that he's in love. He says as much, as we know, but I think this is the moment it becomes too clear for him to deny any longer.

He knows its selfish, but he can't help himself. He's canonically never been in love before. He's seen others go through it, but he's never experienced it first hand. To be in the moment where he has the one he loves in front of him, ready and eager to pursue a relationship with him, is overwhelming. It hits him quite suddenly that falling in love and having to end it eventually (bc at that point I don't think he's fully committed to abandoning his plans like he was going to) is a preferable outcome to never having Lavellan at all.

It makes his conversation with Cole where he tries to convince him to let go of the past even more poignant. He knows its an option, and he desperately wants to take it. It's the healthiest thing for him, which is why Cole advises him to do it. In the context of the romance it's even more significant because Cole is telling him to lean into it. He's weighing it up in his head at that point and if romanced you can tell that this is the point where he begins to consider leaving the past behind him as he later decides to do before Crestwood. He resists Cole's attempts to heal it further , because he can't risk his cover being blown, but I have to wonder how that conversation would've gone down.

So after reading the Post about Jopsons Flogging by @handfuloftime I went down a research rabbit hole because I wanted to see if their exist sufficient & specific enough Data to accuratly compare his punishment and put it in the historical context.

I found this Website, which features the two tables from the Parlamentary Papers and their Source.

(Note: The tables on the website are incomplete and inaccurate in certain places. I compared it from top to bottom to the original source and corrected/added the informations in my table.)

I used that as a basis for my own table, where I also added Averages and Sliders so people can search the Informations!

(Apparently Sliders don't work on Mobil, and I don't know enough about Google Sheets how to fix it :/

If anyone knows or if you find a some kind mistake please let me know.)

This week I visited the University Libary, which has access to the Parlamentary Papers Online, to see if such tables also exist for earlier years but sadly 1845 was the first year where they went into such Specifics.

(I hope to add some of the Years after 1846 to the table, when I can.)
