as much as i would love to give like. a comprehensive response i genuinely dont think i can get my words together just yet without it being a constant unintelligble stream of 'AND ANOTHER THING-' and bc it's become quite torn in the fandom on if the chapter was good or bad i want like. an actual coherent response here. so i will reblog this if/when i can word it but know IM NOT FUCKING HAPPY

#paragraphs and paragraphs about the villains' endings alone. hawks hpsc president. midoriya's ending #the fact hero society is barely changed and the changes that do happen feel very much TELLING the reader it happened #as opposed to actually showing us how society changed on it. this is smthn ik people will argue w me about #bc yes it was a 400+ chapter manga arguably showing us how society changed but like. did it actually show that #like do u honestly think any community would watch televised battles between TEENAGERS and bad guys #and have the majority of them go 'gah! i cant help but sympathise with the bad guy who just suckerpunched child extra no.28!'#so like. why are they all suddenly on board with massive systemic reinvention. where's the rage where's the bitterness #this wasn't a story on showing the villains as redeemable and working towards society sympathising with them #and slowly painfully coming to a conclusion where japan was ready to change as a COLLECTIVE #this was a story of showing a group of redeemable villains (first step CHECK) getting DEFEATED IN BATTLE #THEY ALL FUCKING DIED EXCEPT SPINNER AND PRESUMABLY COMPRESS #WE DONT EVEN FUCKING KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO DABI AT THE END ONLY THAT HE WAS PUT IN THE EXACT SAME POSITION #HE WAS IN WHEN HE WOKE UP FROM HIS COMA AND DABI WAS BORN. 'DABI' AS A PERSONA MEANT NOTHING #we still have an abuser who didn't come to justice. we still have the corrupt government body now being led by the guy they trafficked #and abused and conditioned into the perfect soldier. do u think maybe his opinions are a little biased in regards to that gov. body #maybe. perhaps. slightly. and we still have hero charts!!!!!! every kid in the last chap is still obsessed w becoming a hero!!!!#and dont get me STARTEDDDDDDDDD on midoriya being a teacher. 'i think it's cute he finally gets a life of peace 🥺#this way he can help the next generation directly 🥺' womp to the fucking womp he was supposed to be the world's no.1 hero #he barely sees his friends anymore. 'it's realistic to adulthood!' i dont want realism in my superpowered teen and up manga #put them in the avengers mansion NOW #so as you can see i waffled regardless of saying i specifically wasn't gonna do that and some of these points bother me more than others #with some being personal I Didn't Like It and some being i genuinely truly believe it to be bad writing #but my summary is mha ultimately felt like a story where a group of individuals unlearned (eh) the beliefs of a toxic society #and tried to save the people that society failed and then they themselves DID NOT FUCKING SAVE THEM #(i have a hit on the redemption via death trope on the dark web for ten bajillion pounds)#and while yeah that isn't objectively an evil story to tell i think 1) it was done poorly #and 2) isn't what a lot of people believed the premise to be nor what i think horikoshi himself was trying to write #ask #mha spoilers #mha

My partner finally finished BG3 but has no idea that his ending was actually bad cause he was a pro-Vlaakith githyanki who rode off with Lae'zel but got NO EPILOGUE where Withers points out y'all died im 😭😭😭

they have no idea what happened with Gale or anyone else (who was still alive) after flying away 🙃🙃🙃

#i cant even tell him cause hes gonna play again more “normally”#its so tragic he would like skip dialogue and just fight to get the jump on boss battles instead of waiting for the cutscenes to start #and he didn't exhaust dialogue trees!! like... how... why...#and also he staked Astarion 😭 and p much never reloaded #and didn't clear the shadow curse so no Halsin #also everyone at Last Light Inn died so Dammon was gone and Karlach only got 2 upgrades #and he didnt know moonrise towers was basically a second town #and his game was buggy a lot maybe? cause he kept trying to be hella creative with things and do things out of order #like killing gortash before doing steel watch 🙃#it's fine it's fine everyone plays differently #he tends to care more about gameplay than anything else but still!!#i just want him to know all the character backstories and see everything that made me emotional #i mean he did say he was sad when Lae'zel broke up with him in act 3 and when Karlach died and when he had Gale use the orb in act 2 #which he considered his canon ending :/ sigh #i dont think he got Jaheira's lines about death #and he didnt understand why Karlach wouldn't go back to the hells #and he thought Wyll was happy being the duke (and has NO idea you could save his dad cause the mission didn't happen!! 😭)#the iron throne was like my fave mission outside of killing Cazador and I can't discuss either one cause he didn't do them properly yet 😭😭#he also avoided talking to children so he missed those quests and yenna glitched so no cat appeared in camp 🙃#sighhhhh cannot believe he plays so differently than i do lollll #he didn't even do unlimited kisses with Lae'zel!! meanwhile im over here kissing Astarion every night hahahah #hoping my partner doesn't see IRL if I have the office door open as if it matters lmfaooooo #i need him to play again and see why im in love with a video game character lol #maybe we could both um... benefit from knowing more about all of Astarion's scenes lmao #but like he has NOT SEEN Astarion's silly or sweet side yet just him being a bit of a chaotic vampire #and thinks i like him cause of vampires WRONG!! play the game again and see that i love his silly & sweet real self!#bg3 spoilers #baldur's gate 3 spoilers #bg3 #baldur's gate 3

blue, about to write a 1,000+ word essay that is going to completely revamp my understanding of the game and interpretation of its events: bada bing bada boom

i dont know how you do it. i am incredibly impressed and using all of this for fic inspiration. keep writing

every time someone asks me how i do this shit i have to regrettably inform them that the real genuine answer is that i am fucking insane. my 2 passions in life are writing and video games and the place where the 2 converge fascinates me to no end and i am that special kind of crazy that is capable of latching onto something and not thinking about anything else for 10 years. so. the only thing i have cared about deeply for the last several years of my life has been the way video games are written and constructed. and zelda is one of the most interestingly constructed franchises i have found to date. these games are just like. the absolute perfect story for my brain to work with and i truly do not know who i would be without them. and i am genuinely incredibly grateful that ive been able to build a platform where people like. CARE about what i have to say and take the time to ask me to think about the games because like. i would be doing it ANYWAY but knowing that there are people who actually read my analysis and appreciate the amount of thought i put into this stuff makes me really happy lol

#i sincerely think video games are an art form and that so many stories benefit from being told interactively via video games #and i'm especially fascinated with the way loz chooses to tell its stories because the games are almost always designed so that the player #actively makes every decision in the storyline even though every game only has one preset ending. that's SO COOL.#ive found myself frustrated recently by rpgs that are super cutscene heavy and i was struggling to articulate why until i went back and #looked critically at the way zelda games are designed and i realized that there isn't a single cutscene in loz that openly takes away the #player's autonomy. cutscenes are almost always reserved for dialog or the beginnings of fight scenes but link almost never makes choices #without the player's input and that's a huge part of what keeps the games engaging! YOU are link. he's not a vessel you occasionally #control. he is you. his decisions are always yours.#and that's generally easier to do with a less complex storyline but the way botw kept that autonomy despite its complex story is SO clever #by making the cinematic cutscenes MEMORIES there's never any percieved loss of autonomy because the player understands that this is #something that has already happened so obviously there's no way they can alter link's choices. that's SO SMART #ANYWAY. i didn't mean for this to be a tag essay about video game mechanics sorry but tldr i am so so so passionate about this LOL #if you cant tell. very few people irl will listen to me talk for this long. this is why i love tumblr #asks

I think it's funny when I'm writing for buddie that the tiny Eddie in my head likes to tell me feelings and the tiny Buck in my head likes to tell me situations. Sometimes tiny Eddie won't give a single line of dialogue. Or even setting. Sometimes he's just floating in a void because he won't even tell me where he is. Buck on the other hand, hates to tell me how he's feeling. I had to switch povs before because he won't tell me and I need the scene so I needed to ask tiny Eddie. But sometimes tiny Buck won't shut up, I don't know how we got here, what triggered this confession, or revelation, all I know is that he's in front of tiny Eddie and he wants to say things. I have no control over them. They just do what they want and I'm along for the ride.

ok apparently im not done yelling about my own character designs after all bc i just fffFINALLYYY figured out why fluff's design has always felt slightly off to me and it's that the bitch is UNBALANCED

so basically an unspoken rule in character designs like mine with more simple color pallettes is that a character should have similar colors in both the top and bottom portions of the design to help everything feel connected. as in, if a character has a dominant cool color on their torso, you might want to put more cool colors around their feet too to balance it out. i don't think they have to be the exact shade or anything, just at least in the same ballpark of color.

im using the unedited versions of these guys for best accuracy so they look kinda ugly & disproportionate but bear with me ok

so like u see how these two have a very very similar range of values right? probably a little too low-contrast if im being honest but this aint about that right now. the biggest difference is that (save for the very small technically-lineart-so-i'm-not-counting-it solid black part of his heels) edge's darkest value is consistent and present throughout his whole design, while fluff's darkest value is only his boots and gloves. edge's lightest value is his skull and spine, one being at the top and the other being midway down to balance it out. the lighter parts of his boots also help with this i think, all the small highlights making everything more cohesive & intentional. fluff's lightest value is his face, zipper, and jacket fur. save for the small detail of the zipper his legs have NO highlights to bring everything together which makes him look a bit top-heavy in terms of detail. you can definitely tell that i designed his ask portraits before ever actually thinking much about what the rest of him would look like.

but THEN if i just shift a couple things around, it suddenly comes off as a lot more intentional. i gave them both some better contrast (the only thing changed on edge was making his armor slightly darker) and changed a bit of fluff's look to make all the bits fit together a bit better. the weird mouse-drawn-chain-things help carry that lighter value down his legs, which is also supported even further down by lighter shading on the ripped bits. i also darkened the hood fluff to make it match the gold parts better, with the added bonus of looking a bit grungier which admittedly wayyy more fitting for this guy lmao. in the final redesign i'm probably gonna scrap his shoe design altogether, making them lighter & more red helps but they're still boringgggg.... i also desaturated his jacket just a teeny bit to fit the more grungy colors better

so um basically tl;dr i continue to really like color to kind of an insane degree 👍

#all these differences and nuances might seem small to yall idk............but they are huge to me 😌#cant believe i didn't give him chains before..............how can he be a stupid emo boy without useless chains.......................#fun fact tho that first time his lower half was revealed at that one part? with a fic attached where nothing else big happened of course #yeah i designed all of that on the spot. and now i look at it and yeah you can tell #i didnt know how to draw ripped jeans well yet so i ended up accidentally giving him fishnets. i dont know #one of my other shamefully unbalanced designs would be russ btw. but that one's not my fault that's the dog's fault #i'm baaaarely gonna be changing his design tho lol. im way too attached to it by now
