Dearest Iggy of the North,
Are there pucks in ur veins or is it just maple syrup?
Love,
Birb from South Canada
Dear Birb of the Warm Lands,
The pucks are in fact kept in our pockets, so as to access them easier for impromptu games of hockey. Every North Canadian must have at least one on them at all times. You never know when you might be called upon to substitute for Wayne Gretzky.
Love always,
Chilly Iggy

Just for the Halibut (the hell of it; pun intended pls laugh)
My dear abroad North Canadian Watson,
I have begun my investigation in such a manner that I shall relay all of the information for you to take down in that Tumblr blog of yours to share with your large and growing readership. I trust you will keep the facts straight as always, dear watson.
The halibut treaty of 1923 was the first ecological conservation aimed at #savethefishies as it opened a fishing season from November to Feburary. it was also one of the first treaties you ppls actually signed without getting The King of England involves (aww look at baby Canada taking her first steps as an independent nation).
British govt (as the overprotective girlfriend from the revolutionary war) was like "Canada why are you doing things without my permission?? I didn't approve of you negotiating halibut with the United Sates (like geez, Brits, move on). The prime minister at all (last name King which doesn't make this confusing at all) was like "well this really doesn't concern you so we don't need you."
british King *spluttering* "well that's illegal" (rightfully so, but Canadian king threatend to send a delegation to do the treaty to DC and British King Couldn't Do Much About it- Watson, are you paying attention?)
As far as you stealing fish from South Canadians, that's primarily because the border between the Canada but a little bit more north and more east (alaska) and Normal Canada was disputed. But unclear. To be fair the stealing part came from an unsourced instagram reel and maybe unfounded. But supposedly this is one of the crucial events of getting canadian autonomy which is cool bc i had no clue how you managed to do that before without going the 'Murican Route.
With love,
A south canadian sherlock who's wondering if there's more to this halibut story than meets the eye and should do more research.
Halibuts are a creature i wouldn't mind if you stole them tho

Edit: forgot to tag @igotthisaccountunderduress and also my sources were wikipedia (shameful ik) and the canadian encyclopedia. don't make me use mla i will cry.

BLOOD-ACCURSED LAND ---- Watched From the Bridge the Most Wonderful Procession In the Whole World. ---- Robert W. Service, the poet of the Yukon, whose virile verse has stirred thousands of readers. has reached Constantinople in his "Swing Around the War Zone" for the Toronto Daily Star. From the exalted city of Athens to the gloom of the capital of Turkey in its hour of defeat, he has touched two extremes of human experience. Hold the British Museum accountable for copyright infringement!
Some of you may have seen this in the news, but a buddy of mine has had her translation work stolen by the British Museum. Yilin’s translations of feminist poet Qiu Jin has been taken and used in multiple formats in the physical exhibition as well as used in the exhibition book with no citation or credit attached. They did not inform her, they did not get permission, they did not credit her, and they did not pay her.
The British Museum’s correspondence with Yilin has been outright atrocious. From Yilin’s crowd justice:
They initially claimed they had just forgotten to credit me in the exhibit and offered to acknowledge me, and to send me a permission form, whilst emphasizing how other contributors let them use their work for free or at a low cost. Before I even had a chance to respond, especially given the 8-hr time difference, they contacted me 24 hours later to tell me that they had removed all my translations from the exhibit. […]
After lying to her and the public about the apology, they have continued to misrepresent the situation to journalists and treat Yilin, whose work they STOLE, like garbage. They have only corresponded with them in a condescending manner with coercive language regarding the work that they stole. Yilin is now hoping to raise at least £15,000 by July 10th in order to instruct expert lawyers in London to initiate a claim of infringement of their copyright and moral rights.
We cannot allow the British Museum to continue their legacy of theft, if they are not held responsible, then this cycle will only repeat itself. Additionally, if she is successful, she hopes to donate at least 50% of the funds back into the community.
Please share! (Read about the full thing below, and if you’re up for it, Here is the original tweet thread describing everything as it happened)

A memorial service was held in Lviv for 7-year-old Emilia, 18-year-old Daria, 21-year-old Yaryna, and their mother Yevhenia, all killed in the Russian strike on September 4.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Russian propaganda was at a film festival in Venice. The film "Russians at War" had funding from Canadian tax dollars. Unless something changes, it will also be shown at a film festival in Toronto on September 10th. It received $340,000 from the Canada Media Fund, which receives funding from the Government of Canada (Source). It also had support from France’s Centre National de Cinéma.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is some of what the Ukrainian Canadian Congress had to say about it. You can find more of their statements on their website. They encourage everyone to contact the Canada Media Fund to share views on the funding and that the screening of the film should be cancelled. Contact information is in the link.
The Canadian Government says it is very concerned about the influence of Russian propaganda. Then why is the Canada Media Fund using taxpayer money to fund: —A movie – Russians at War – made by a filmmaker whose previous movies used to be broadcast by Russia Today, a Russian propaganda outlet sanctioned by the Government of Canada? —A filmmaker who entered sovereign Ukrainian territory together with invading Russian armies, thus violating Ukrainian law, Ukrainian sovereignty and possibly breaching Canadian sanctions? —Why did this film receive $340,000 from the Canada Media Fund, which is funded by the Government of Canada? —Why is the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) screening a movie that seeks to explain away Russia’s genocidal war of aggression against Ukraine? Why is TIFF showcasing a film which blames “propaganda” or “the fog of war” for the Russian armies who invaded Ukraine and who rape, torture, murder and dehumanize Ukrainians?
The TVO (Ontario's public educational media organization) had this to say on the matter of the film.
Russians at War is at its core an anti-war film. It is unauthorized by Russian officials and was made at great personal risk to the filmmaker, who was under constant threat of arrest and incarceration for trying to tell an unofficial story. This film shows the increasing disillusionment of Russian soldiers as their experience at the front doesn’t jive with the media lies their families are being told at home. The film was produced by an Academy Award nominee with the support of cultural agencies in France and Canada because it is a documentary made in the tradition of independent war correspondence. We encourage people to see the documentary for themselves when it is available. It will be screening at the Toronto International Film Festival next week and will be airing on TVO in the coming months. TVO is an education and public affairs-focused organization. Our priority is to provide our viewers with important stories from across Ontario and around the world. TVO remains firmly committed to delivering high-quality and ethical content. We value transparency and integrity in our work and continue to uphold these principles in all our operations.” – TVO Media Education Group
This is naivety at best. No matter what, it's being complicit to white washing Russian war crimes.
Anastasia Trofimova, the documentary's filmmaker, has at least 11 films funded by RT. And as the DOJ in America has shown us recently, RT has direct ties to the Kremlin. To think she could get access and just film anything without the approval of the FSB is laughable. Nothing happens without their approval, and at the very least it would be a breach of OpSec.
And what she says gets even worse.
Trofimova was asked at the Venice press conference on whether it was “ethical” to humanize Russian soldiers, in light of war crimes committed by Russia’s army during its ongoing invasion of Ukraine.   “I find it a little bit of a strange question, if we can humanize or not humanize someone. So, are there lists of people who we can humanize and people who we can’t? Of course, we have to humanize everyone. This is a huge tragedy for our region, first of all, and for the entire world,” replied Trofimova.  “If we don’t see each other as people…  these black and white stereotypes about each other, this will only make the war continue. This will only make the hatred grow… unfortunately, that’s sort of the route taken by politicians, but I don’t think that this is the route that regular people should take.”
Of course she frames it as a great tragedy for Russia. "Russia is always the victim and should never be held accountable" is the common narrative and attitude. She didn't mention Bucha, or Irpin, or any of the other cities that have been wiped off the map. She doesn't acknowledge the ethnic cleansing being done by her country or why Russians are being regarded as something other than human due to their actions and behavior. She keeps talking about seeing people as people, but doesn't acknowledge the perverse racism and dehumanization her fellow Russians do to Ukrainians and the ethnic minorities within Russia. The soldiers in the Russian army carry this attitude to the battlefield. It's not hard to find this behavior in all the videos on Telegram.
To that point and in answer to a second question by the same journalist on whether she had seen the Ukrainian films in Venice, Trofimova voiced her disquiet at the ending of Olha Zhurba’s documentary Songs of Slow Burning Earth which is also playing Out of Competition. The audiovisual diary captures the impact on Ukrainian people and society in the first two years of the ongoing Russian invasion, which began in February 2022. “I found it to be really good, especially the first 15, 20 minutes… when people just started to find out that the war is beginning… I found it to be really strong,” said Trofimova. “The ending, though, I wasn’t that much of a fan of because it sort of contrasted Ukrainian kids and Russian kids, with Ukrainian kids thinking about what they can do to build a better Ukraine for the future, and Russian kids were just shown as marching and singing war songs. “I found this to be playing into that whole narrative that Russians, by definition, are these aggressive and awful people… you know that it’s in their blood to be to be this way."
Look, if she has a problem with how Russian children are being portrayed in the ending of that other film, then maybe she should look around and wonder why the portrayal is there. Ukrainians aren't the ones filling Russian children's heads with propaganda and revanchism. Your fellow Russians are sending their kids to school with backpacks with the fucking Z on them, or making them wear tank costumes in parades. I've read articles of Russians sending their kids to some form of military camp. It's Russian society that creates and reinforces standards to be awful people, not Ukrainians. Examine your damn society first. Look at the war crimes Russian soldiers willingly commit and record to post on Telegram. Listen to what your fellow Russians say about Ukrainians. It's not hard.
This is all grotesque manipulation and propaganda.
If you want to read this article these excerpts are from, here. I'm so disgusted I'm getting a headache.

Dear north canada,
I come scribbling very hastily, procrastinating my stats' homework (well truly procrastinating the Other Homework That is Scaring me), because I have just found out information about the French that I find very intriguing, and having no access to French ppl in my near circle I come to the next best thing: north Canada.
Is cotton candy called daddy's beard?
It gives me a very visceral image. I have never tried cotton candy (what are your opinions of it, if any).
love,
a very beardless south canadian.
(sorry french ppl).
my dear dear south canadian,
I deeply sympathize with your homework situation and hope that you find the courage to face any and all scary tasks you need to do. Know that I am cheering you on from across the border.
In answer to your query, cotton candy is called daddy's beard (barbe à papa) in French and I think it's a delightful name for it! I am also shocked and perplexed to learn that you have never tried cotton candy! It basically just tastes like sugar. It's very sticky and messy and melts in your mouth, leaving you feeling like you haven't eaten anything at all but at least you got to taste some sweetness so you probably didn't waste those five bucks you spent on it, right?
love,
an equally beardless north canadian

Dear South Canadian,
It is with a heavy heart that I today take my leave of your country’s fine border. I will forever fondly remember the memories I have made and ice cream I have eaten here. Never fear, for I shall continue to haunt the narrative of the falls, and when you arrive I shall then haunt you. Lovingly, of course.
In the meantime, I leave with you a symbol of our country’s sisterhood and perhaps the best thing I have found in my travels:
Tumblr media
Forever yours,
Your friend the North Canadian
*presses my face in between the gaps of the gate the liebetween us, staring longingly out into the distance as a random caravan fades away, imagining it to be yours*
*pulls away and starts opening up a notebook and a pencil and writes, with a sing-songy monologue appearing in herhead*
Dearest Iggy of the North Canada,
I pray this letter finds you in a state of health and returned quite comfortably to your own nest somewhere far up in the cold northern areas of Canada. I rue the day that our two countries had been torn apart (curses, Great Britain) and that we will not be given a chance to meet, perhaps for a long time when the great Borders Will Be Lifted and One of Us can Overstep the Lines that Bind Us. Instead, we must pass by our meeting place like ships in the night or two shooting stars that only just brush before continuing on their separate journeys. I shall provide travel stories, for sure, because we are actually going to Small Town NY that is some distance away from the falls and Niagara would only be a small day trip that I will pack as densly as I can with pictures and souveniours. I hope to find as many goodies to fill your inbox with. Perhaps not as many cool finds, but I will Take A Picture of A North Canadian Merch, Swear My Life On It. That being said, where did you find that beautiful America shirt.... we should match... or I should find a similar looking Canadian one or something.
I look forward anxiously to that fateful day in August because then I shall be traveling, and my life will have more routine and purpose, as well as a sense of adventure (and probably a sense of dread at riding in the same vehicle with my family for an extended period of time - I can hear the arguments already). I look forward forward to my inboxed being possessed by the spirit of a north Canadian. Let me haunt your mind, lovingly, as always,
Your South Canadian Birb.

YET ANOTHER VENEZUELA POST
THIS ONE'S HILARIOUS
Seriously guys, they're not even trying. A National Assembly (that's what we call congress) deputy (that's what we call congresspeople) and third party candidate for Last Sunday's election, Jose Brito went on Venezuelan news network Globovision (which was bought out by government cronies in 2013, but that's another story) to defend the electoral results posted by the government. You can see the clip here:
Tumblr media
Community note on twitter says everything but why would you willingly go to twitter when a sexy Canadian/Venezuelan man can explain this to you instead? Ok so what happened is that he got one of those paper receipts the voting machines print and he alleged that his was the real one and it contradicted one of the opposition's.
I've been saying for days that the only thing the government needs to do in order to cast doubt about the opposition's entire evidence base is literally to show receipts. Literally just one, which could be shown to contradict any of the opposition's posted receipts and could be authenticated. There's a series of authentication tools that are printed on each receipt which essentially make these difficult to fake, not to mention there would be a long paper trail backing the authenticity of one set next to the others. The hash-code at the top is based on some information in a server we don't currently have access to. From what I understand the hash is meant to show that the results on the receipt match the results in the tabulation servers. If they altered the results on the receipt they would have to alter results in the servers as well to correct that discrepancy and that would print a different hash code. We don't have access to the tabulation server cause it's controlled by the government and they refuse to show shit (and they are claiming the digital count is compromised anyway). Thankfully there's other paper trails that can be compared to the receipts the opposition are showing to verify their authenticity as well as copies and photos that were taken of them on the day of the election and videos of poll watchers reading out the receipts as well. And of course there's direct testimony from the Poll Watchers themselves.
None of that third party fancy shmancy verification and long process needs to be done in order to disprove that this receipt is fake, however. The receipts also have a QR code which shows the ID of the voting machine which printed it as well as the vote count for that voting center. It is formatted as [voting_machine_ID]![party1_votes],[party2_votes],[party3_votes]... and so on. Must be noted that multiple parties can nominate the same candidate and the votes for each party that nominates a candidate are added together in the final count.
The opposition's receipt that corresponds to the one showed by Jose Brito on TV was this one.
If you scan the QR Code, you will see that the code matches the results on the receipt posted by the opposition originally and does not at all match his own. This shows that the receipt he's holding was altered digitally, in quite a lazy fashion as well. Falsifying a QR Code isn't very hard it would've looked fairly authentic had he done that and pasted it on the thing while he was photoshopping this.
So to summarize
All they had to do was show exactly one receipt that could be authenticated or hell even reasonably believed to be authentic on first glance in order to cast doubt on their integrity.
After almost a week and a half of showing no copies of the receipts they should have in their possession one of them decides to show one and it turns out to be FAKE.
If the government's results hadn't been suspect until now they definitely are now. And all because they were too lazy to fake a QR Code with Photoshop. This is so funny dude. The politics fandom is laughing so hard.

"Canadian Terror Patrols Harass Nazis," Winnipeg Tribune. October 27, 1943. Page 4. ---- [By The Canadian Pres] TORONTO, Oct. 27. - Canadians in Italy send "terror patrols" behind the enemy lines every day and night, stabbing him, harrassing him, pin-pricking him." Matt Halton, C.B.C. war correspondent, said in a cable Tuesday.
"The sons of the men who brought raiding parties to a high art in the last war have improved on their fathers' skill," Halton wrote. "They go out to hit swiftly and silently and fade away... as a captured German officer said: The Canadians are as bad as the Russians. They keep pushing in and trying to kill us." "

Free Things you can do from home to support Palestine!!! 🖤🤍❤️💚
Hey Tumblr besties! Here's a few ways to help Palestine that you can do from home and don't cost any money! It's pretty much just emails! Hopefully you have local organisations that have resources can help with this that are more specifically tailored to your government. But if you need help drafting emails, finding resources or want someone to proofread them before you send them, I'm more than happy to do that! Please do reach out, take a read and share as well please! Your voice matters and this is an important way to help, your emails can be as short or as long as you like! Much love 🖤🤍❤️💚
Palestinian Visas
- While many Palestinians are stuck in Israeli occupation and terrorism, there are some who have been able to evacuate but are further stuck in limbo or are not able to evacuate due to visa statuses and immigration policy of foreign governments.
- For example, In late December 2023, Minister Marc Miller, Canada's Immigration Minister announced a special category of visas for Palestinians in Palestine who are related to Palestinian-Canadians. Not a single visa has been granted and all applications are still in the early stages. Many Palestinian-Canadians have spoken about this, contacted the Minister and PM Trudeau and nothing. Minister Erica Stanford, the Minister for Immigration in Aotearoa New Zealand has not granted Palestinian visas and not made a special visa category despite releasing a press release in 2022 when she was in the opposition, criticising the Labour government for not doing enough for Ukrainians and not having created a special visa category within 14 days. She is not replying to correspondence on this.
What you can do-Email your head of Government (Prime Minister, President etc.) Governments across the world are structured differently but if you have a Minister of/for Immigration contact them, your local MPs/Congress members, senators etc., those with Immigration portfolios and interests.
Include these requests in your email:
To create a special humanitarian Visa category for Palestinians to apply for that is accessible.
To prioritise these visas, and expedite these visas with urgency.
To expedite any backlogged Palestinian visas urgently.
Sanctions against Israel
- Email your head of Government (President, Prime Minister etc.), your Minister of Foreign Affairs, local representatives and urge them to place sanctions against Israel.
This includes
Ending diplomatic ties, closing down Israeli embassies for example.
Export restrictions, ending military aid etc. Australia is providing materials to Israel that are used in making f35s for example.
Calling for a Permanent Ceasefire
- It is important that we continue to urge our Governments into advocating for and calling for a permanent ceasefire and recognise the state of Palestine.
- Email your Head of Government, your Ministers and representatives with foreign affairs portfolios and your local representatives to
Call and continue to advocate for a permanent ceasefire and recognition of Palestine as it's own state.

Wait I just realized the Rick Mercer reference I made in my canadian electoral system post is not exactly well-known outside of Canada. Basically our political satire show is called This Hour Has 22 Minutes, usually shortened to just 22 Minutes, and it used to have this really popular bit called Talking to Americans, where they sent this really popular comedian up here and nowhere else named Rick Mercer down to the states disguised as a news correspondent to see what Americans would believe about Canada I'd he presented it with a film crew and a news mic and a straight enough face.
And some of the shit they'd just believe dude. It was so fucking funny. If you've never seen it or heard of it please give this a watch because you WONT regret it:
