Cool thrift store find today - a travel bar from the 50’s. It didn’t come with the bottle of Canadian Club whiskey, there is an interesting story behind that bottle. Before I tell the story, look at the top of the bottle and the production date - yes, you saw it right, it is from 1950. My parents were married in 1955, and that same year my dad started his time with the military. We believe he bought that bottle at the PX while he was at Fort Knox. My parents are packrats, and as they moved around the country, they kept moving this bottle. When they retired, they split their worldly goods among their kids and I ended up getting their various bottles of alcohol. Like them, I moved around the country a lot (via corporate moves) and ended up taking all of their stuff with me. A few years ago, I finally opened up all their boxes and found that unopened bottle from 1950.
Saturday is dad’s funeral and the time has come to open that 73 year old bottle and toast to his memory. Thanks dad.

Nonononono what the fuck.
I remember this bit. Not the Hugh Jackman bit, maybe, but the Canadian Club treasure hunt bit definitely. Or do I? Fuck, was it a real life thing??
Yes, it turns out, this was a real thing the real Canadian Club whiskey did, starting in 1967 through the 90s, with something in the 2010s to revive the search for those cases that hadn't been recovered.
I do not remember eGemony. Or 3-part episodes. I do remember the It Devours book, (or at least promos for it?) and its cover art.
I am shaking. This feels weird and terrible. I am afraid to restart the episode. Wtf. I. Wtf.

Canadian Club Premium
Review by: TOModera So, after having a light allergic reaction, it’s time to get back on the horse and have some whisky. And what better whisky to have after your stomach’s been tied up in knots than one you’ve been dreading. Yup, it’s time to review Canadian Club Premium, because I’m a masochist. Alright, alright, I know. Don’t go into a review with doubts. But how could I? I live in Canada.…

"GUTHRIE FAVORS QUIZ ON PRISONS," Nanaimo Daily News. November 25, 1933. Page 1. ---- Wants Commission; Has Nothing To Hide, He Tells Club Members at Ottawa --- Quebec, Nov. 25. - Hon. Hugh Guthrie is personally in favor of a commission being appointed to investigate penitentiary conditions, he sad today. The Minister of Justice was here to address the Canadian Club.
"Personally I would welcome the appointment of commission of a competent persons to investigate and report on conditions in our penitentiaries," Mr. Guthrie declared. "Our staffs are also eager to have an investigation. They have nothing to hide or be ashamed of. But my chief so far has been against it."
Most of the agitation about prison conditions in Canada has been "inspired by Reds," he added.
"That is one of the reasons why Premier R. B. Bennett is opposed to the appointment of a penitentiary commission," he continued. "We do not believe such an investigation is warranted, but would welcome it if decided upon eventually.
"I have received 50,000 communications from Reds - all urging the pampering of criminals.
"There are some desperate characters in our penitentiaries and we cannot afford to treat them with kid gloves if society is to be protected and discipline maintained in our penal institutions."
The Department is at present, he announced, considering some form of segregation of the prison population "on the basis of first offenders."
