Ugh, I really gotta stop getting into stuff because somebody describes it has having homoerotic relationships. My roommate who knows my tumblr was telling me about how prosekai had all these women who cared so so deeply about each other, and I used to love beat saber back when I had access to a VR rig, so I downloaded it, despite having no previous exposure to Miku except through said roommate. This is not silence – a short poem.

My brain it fizzes and whirs,

My face hot and heavy,

My brain aching but alive,

The almost silent fizzing and popping of the carbonated drink poking at my mind as it struggles to decipher the needlessly complex wording of the English language,

The clicking and clacking of my computer keyboard as my fingers dance across the letters,

The cars outside roar and hiss in my ear despite my distance,

The clock, in its endless need to distract me, thawks at my eardrums with an obsessive, repetitive passion I cannot ignore,

The fabric of my sleeves scrapes across my skin with an unyielding fury, catching on the corner of my laptop and dragging my fingers backwards with it,

My hair trails sits behind my neck, its thin fibers agitating my skin,

The cat slumbering on the bed shifts, the rustling adding its part,

The boiler, insistent on joining the chorus, breaks out in a great hiccuping song, stealing my attention completely from my work,

This is not silence.

Do not whistle!

Do not speak!

I am deafened enough as it is!

And I have work to do.

So, I responded to a post over on my personal blog about people behaving "weird" in public and mentioned that being a bit smelly is not, in fact, a moral failure. And I just looked at the comments and feel deeply moved to reiterate:

Smelling bad in public is not a moral failure.

In fact, I'll go one step further:

There is no moral dimension to cleanliness.

There are all sorts of reasons a person might be dirty in public. They might not have access to the facilities or products they need to stay clean, they might be coming home from a dirty activity, they might have mental or physical conditions that make it hard for them to maintain their personal hygiene, they might be dependent on other people for their hygiene needs and those needs aren't being met.

Also, with smells in particular, "bad" is subjective. I'm personally extremely sensitive to perfumes and aftershaves, and while I can sit quite peacefully in a crowded bus that smells of BO, I often have to leave shops or get off buses because someone's perfume, which they no doubt think makes them smell lovely, is actually making me gag.

You don't have to go and huff great, gusting lungfuls of air around the next smelly person you bump into in the corner shop. By all means, breathe through your mouth, change your seat, open the window, wish the situation were different.

But you do need to let go of this idea that a smelly or dirty person is also a bad person. They're literally just a person - just another human animal living in their animal body, trying to get from one day to the next. Sometimes, people are dirty. Sometimes, they smell bad. If that's not something you can encounter without taking personal offence, you need to seriously reassess your own expectations of being in public.

Rivulet was born in a tropical area, but their family moved up north when they were a pup, so they don't remember much of it. She's been best friends with Saint her whole life and begged her parents to take them in after their mother passed (it worked! They're adoptive siblings :)). She also has ADHD, and has very intense RSD.

Rivulet was always very interested in marine life & anything to do with water, and they've been told since they were young that they'd make a great athlete someday. She was on every track and swim team throughout school, and was a highly valued member of her teams. In her late teens, she was offered something she couldn't turn down -- a scholarship at a sports-focused college down south. Even if it meant leaving her childhood home, she was more than happy to accept.

They have now graduated college and are now working as a mechanic to pay off their loans and start a life for themselves. They still live with Saint, but have moved out of their parent's home. She's worried her parents will want to move back up north (her younger siblings are not fans of the new scenery...) but she figures even if they do, they'll always come back to visit.

Since coming to town she's made a few friends, her closest friends being Monk and Moon. She's also developed a massive crush on the mailscug, Spearmaster. They're horrified to confess, though, since they've never been in a relationship before. But no matter what happens, she'll always have Saint to help her through it :))

Ooh ok so hot tip I learned while working at the library. If you have problems buying things online because of the retail therapy or the excitement of the delivery, order things into the library. You can order as much as you want without spending a dime and then you get books! Or movies! Or board games!

as a librarian, i can't encourage you enough to check out stuff you don't think you'll get around to reading

like other institutions, at the end of the day we have to use numbers to justify our existence and inform our financial decisions

check out that novel by that author you like even if you know there's no time to finish it. check out a movie you like even if you can't watch it. check out a sewing machine even if you don't have time for a project. we don't check if you finish anything, and it all adds up.

support your local library by checking out things you don't need

so, what is this? i actually am not sure yet, will it be gameplay, will it be story? we will find out at some point, but i just desperately wanted to play with the late bronze age because as an ancient history and linguistics major, it is my duty. i have always been deeply in love with my hellenistic greco-roman history and thought it would be quite fun to delve into a period i am not as familiar with with the Mycenaeans, to see what i can learn. also considering the beautifully accurate amount of cc clothing for this era, particularly by @clepysdra which i feel the classical age is lacking in among historical cc compared to the bronze age. BUT in speaking of accuracy, those that noticed i referenced the Eurypontid house of the diarchic Spartans, the Ekkelisa and the names of my sims themselves, for the sake of my own enjoyment, i WILL be snatching names for funsies with no relation to their historical origin, but i do want to try my best to make this accurate to Mycenaean culture/dress/relgion, etc. but i am still learning about this fascinating time. i also want to give the BIGGEST praise and thank you to @kyriat-sims for her absolutely beautiful early civilisation save that she’s created, as well as the build featured in this post (which you can find HERE and HERE) as although i tweaked the interior to my manic over-cluttered taste, the castle shell itself is done by her and it’s so brilliant <3

Wedding quilt progress is going slow but sure. I’m a little concerned about math given how the shapes shift only half to the side each row. I suppose I’ll just keep some of the material extra and reserved so if I need to last minute add half a jewel it’ll be fine.
