Did mini twists for the first time a couple days ago. Took about 3 hours, and hopefully will last at least a week or two. A good alternative for when you need/want a protective style but a salon visit isn’t in the budget, and that’s if it’s even open (hey, it’s still a pandemic outside).

I shampooed my hair using a friend’s new product — Carol’s Daughter Wash Day Delight water-to-foam shampoo with aloe. I really like it - the nozzle top makes it good for protective styles like this one.

Next, I detangled with some Camille Rose leave-in conditioner in Latte. It smells delicious, and easily detangles.

I then sectioned my hair into large twists and let it air-dry for an hour to allow for more stretch. Next time I might air-dry for longer. Anyway, I undid each large twist, added some Beija-Flor Creme Brûlée (an old favorite that I revisited — read my original review here and purchase here), and turned them into the tiny twists section by section.

I love the results. I don’t feel like doing my hair right now, and this works. Should also help with growth retention by allowing me to leave my hair alone. It’s growing out of last summer’s taper cut and is in a weird length phase. Below is how I’ll probably be wearing it with my mini twists until I get some more length. The question came up about starting a loc journey, but I’m not fully committed. I still like variety, in both styling and products, and I need instant gratification, so I wouldn’t want to start them until my hair was longer. If I decide to, they’ll likely be sisterlocks, which are super tiny but super cute.

I haven’t straightened my hair since September of 2017 so I decided to post this video and share my curly to straight routine since I didn’t have a straight hair routine in 2018. January 2018, I made it a decision to leave braids out until the summer so I could really treat and manage my natural hair. It's definitely been a challenge with these weekly washes but I've been able to try new products and add to my weekly regimens. I've found what products work best for my hair (Carol's Daughter, Camille Rose and Amla Powder, amazing products by the way) and I've learned what products just weigh my hair down. Today was my first press of the year and my growth has been amazing. Though I still have some stuff to work on (moisturization and detangling) I've definitely been hitting my goals of having healthy, growing natural hair. Having a hair stylist that's been working with me on my hair for a couple years now has also been a big help.
